Okay, I swear I'll shut up after this. I love the music. Do not get me wrong, I adore the music for all the Favreau/Filoni shows, Ludwig Göransson's score and everything that's evolved from it is killer.
But they're using the Rebels music, and that music somehow has a way of going straight to my core. I started tearing up just hearing the first strains of Ahsoka's theme even though I was prepared for it. But when Hera's started? When Sabine's beautiful theme (that's never gotten an official release beyond the Trials of the Darksaber episode guide on StarWars.com) started? And those brief teases of Thrawn and Ezra? I'm choking up just thinking about it. My autistic brain latches on to music so tightly and these melodies bring back such good feelings and I'm so happy they got the Kiners back. I don't know why I was so afraid they wouldn't, but I'm just so relieved they did.
If they never put out official soundtracks for Seasons 3 and 4 of Rebels, we at least have the inevitable Ahsoka soundtrack coming. I'll take it. 🤣🤣😭😭

Hullo musician friends!! Id love some insight! I’m writing up some “tips and tricks” sheets for some of my tutoring students and the current one I’m working on is for sight-reading.
Other than just practicing sight-reading I’ve tried explaining that what helps me is thinking about an order of importance when you are handed a piece of music and told “play now” because my brain tends to overcomplicate things. For example I make sure to check the key/time signature and the end (D.S/D.C/tag/rit/etc) then my order of importance (TO ME) is the rhythm, the actual notes (minus accidentals (again this is just me but I have to simplify my brain down to “just read the dots” sometimes)), expression marks, dynamics, then everything else if I can think of it.
BUT I don’t wanna be sharing this with students if it’s a skewed idea of what the majority would rank.
I know I wanna keep rhythm first because I think it shows a lot of promise if you can hit the rhythms on a first play through. But if anyone has any insight into how you would order the importance of other performance aspects while sight reading (eg. pitch, dynamics, expression marks(articulation/ornamentation/etc), musicality, phrasing, even breath support or tone and shit). Im a brass player but if any non mouth instrument players have rankings like bowing or use of the pedal that would be good to know too. Thanks lads!

Guys
You have to stop tagging things violist if it's not a viola
Please
I just wanted viola content so I search up violist and it's a bunch of people posting violins
That's violinist
Not violist
Violist is for the much cooler viola players
Stop mixing it up please it's not that hard

i went to my sister's concert today (she's a music student) and one of the pieces she played was by another student. at the very end there was a melody that sounded like the main melody of ori and the blind forest but a little to the left. after it was over i had my sister ask that student about it and it turns out he did take direct inspiration from that game's ost. i was RIGHT
#ghost post#i have reached a new level of nerd#won't say what the piece was in the interest of not doxxing myself but it was AMAZING#genuinely might be my favorite thing ive ever heard my sister play and she's been in various orchestras for like a decade at this point#it was very very long without ever getting stale#used some instruments and techniques i wouldn't have ever thought to include in a symphony orchestra like a rainstick#it sounded like a very well done movie soundtrack in the sense that you know what's going on in the story just by listening#i dont think the composer is ever gonna see this but man its so good i had to say it

listening to Omega’s theme and tbh it just gets better every time I listen to it
like I like all the music the Kiners have done for TBB but this one just hits different
it kinda reminds The Planets by Holst which contains probably my favorite piece of classical music, Jupiter - especially this particular section
I fell in love with Jupiter over a decade ago (I’m old) and something in Omega’s Theme just brings me to the same place, mentally and I love it SO much
#shut up river#but for real go listen to both pieces#it’s good shit#especially if you’re a band nerd like me#you might’ve played the planet suite if you were a band/orchestra nerd tbh#we played a medly when I was in middle school#and honestly the middle section of Jupiter has been ingrained in my soul ever since#gustav holst#kevin kiner#the bad batch#tbb

Remembering Vic Flick and two drummers for The Bee Gees
Here is my combined remembrance of three entertainers we lost:
Remembering Vic Flick 1937-2024
Guitarist Vic Flick has died at 87. He is forever known for being the guitarist on the legendary "James Bond Theme" by John Barry & Orchestra. How iconic is that guitar in the history of film, music and pop culture? The answer: very! There's a good documentary The Sound of 007 about the music of James Bond movies and he appears in too.
Flick circa 1960s
He played with a number of musicians including Dusty Springfield (that's him on "I Only Want to Be with You"), Tom Jones (that's him on "It's Not Unusual"), and The Bee Gees (that's him on "Spicks and Specks").
He also played guitar on The Beatles' song "Ringo's Theme (This Boy)" orchestrated by George Martin and featured in A Hard Days Night. Years later he played on Paul McCartney's 1977 album Thrillington done under the name Percy "Thrills" Thrillington. Kind of an unsung hero of Beatle collaborators!
The link above is the obit from Hollywood Reporter.
Remembering Dennis Byron 1949-2024 and Colin "Smiley" Petersen 1946-2024
In a strange coincidence, two former drummers for The Bee Gees have both passed away this month: Dennis Byron at 75 and Colin "Smiley" Petersen at 78.
Petersen was the drummer for pop group from 1967-1969. That's him on "To Love Somebody"! Byron was their drummer from 1973 to 1981. That's him on their magnum opus Saturday Night Fever soundtrack!
The link above is the obit from Rolling Stone.
