just got our hearts broken in the past few chapters and then this chapter cured everything. the birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and the sahed-julia chemistry is off the charts.

let's start off with sahed lovingly looking julia in the eyes while tasting her tears ??

this freak.

but ughhh THIS MOMENT GUYS oh this got me--not only is he comforting her after just spilling his tragic past, but he knows how much his belief in her dad means to her and he's not saying it just to comfort her... she's changed him just as much as he's changed her

i want to cry he looks at her so lovingly HSRHSFSJH

anyways some much needed comedic relief this chapter, still simultaneously impressed and disturbed by how well tonny and dotty can lie

also hello can we talk about this speech bubble??? omfg i dont even want to think about if the kalgratti govt has ever... the casual and flippant tone makes this even more nauseating.

ending with some good news!! dad believers rise up! wonder where he told her to go...

I really hope the Ah’kon gets liberated soon. Like it happens in the near future of the story. I’m sure the Kalgratti will have reservations of Ah’Kon being equal citizens but it’s what they deserve. To be treated like human. They couldn’t do the simplest things like wearing earrings and growing their hair out. Maybe if the Kalgratti citizens knew the truth behind what their government has been doing the Ah’kon might get more supporters.

i'm certain the story is building towards something like this--reading this ask reminded me so much of hooky's plot, how it started off small in terms of characters/setting before expanding hugely to include a myriad of issues. miriam's handle of how the witches were treated was so nuanced, and i'm so interested to see what old and new ideas will appear in marionetta, especially since it's further complicated by a more intricate magic system, a wider cast, and overall a more complex society

If Marionetta ever got an animated adaptation and they get to Sahed’s backstory, they might change up details to make it less gorey. Like simply blinding the Ah’kon children and detailing it by adding dull colors to their eyes and have Sahed’s ex mentor burned to death out of sight and have it be an accident. I know it wouldn’t have the same impact but still the chapter was brutal enough as is.

no actually i was quite shocked (and impressed) at the level of horror and pain that miriam was able to evoke with her art style--it felt cursed just to look at the panel and even now, i can still see it fresh in my mind

an animated adaptation would be amazing!! maybe they could give the kids blindfolds instead? i could totally see this becoming a hit show, though good luck to all the animators who have to recreate miriam's intricate backgrounds and outfits...

omfg marionetta episode 80... yet another masterclass in episodic pacing god, it had:

the absolutely horrific things done to the ah'kon

(i can't stop thinking about the dialogue bubble saying "it hurt so much"... hurt as in past-tense as in when the procedure was done as in no numbing or after care or... my god)

the very moment sahed's innocence was broken

sahed's inner conflict on hating the govt yet still craving the parental attention he never got as a child

really just how strongly sahed feels, whether it's love or hatred, and both are shown here

julia and sahed embracing while he tells her this

julia and sahed blushing ajdfk the flutters when sahed turned his head to ask julia if he did the right thing

speaking of that, julia's immediate reaction to excuse sahed for his murder, something she would have found reprehensible earlier

and now the sinking feeling that we still need to know what happened to the blinded ah'kon (god i'm scared) and what will happen to the little girl...

help i love how everyone is in a suit that sorta speaks to their profession and is suitable (hah see what i did there) to be on a magazine cover and then you have luke showing off his ass and shoulders whilst hanging from a cord

god that would be cute but oh boy we all saw his face when he was talking about her so i fear this may be just a dream for now...

i was actually lowk wondering if it would go the route of julia and sahed being her "parents" (i actually hate this trope lol so hoping this isn't the case) but in the recent chapter, with dotty at the last second protecting the kid, i wonder....?

i vaguely remember you asking me earlier about whether dotty and bob would want kids, and from a writer's perspective, this arc would be the perfect time to explore that and force dotty to confront her morals and into some character growth....
