wait also my heart is so freaking full by the fact that most of the circus members are actually so empathetic and nice people... but it makes sense! most of them joined the circus bc society mistreated them and they had no other choice

i was too cynical of them earlier. i totally would've expected that an eternity of frivolity would have eroded them into happy complacency, but i think dotty is just the bad apple spoiling the bunch

i love seeing sahed being surrounded by overwhelming love and support :))) such a nice change of pace

also sahed remembering julia's promise... even if she and everyone else around her is tempted to give up, we know that he never will.

Julia’s willing to accept the life as an immortal circus dweller. Of course that will depend on the contract and if the conditions can change. Though I guess this means she’ll have to accept that she will have to say goodbye to her dad forever. Poor guy. He at least deserves to know that his daughter is okay. I just hope he’ll accept that Julia loves an Ak’Kon and that he won’t be able to have any grandchildren he’ll never get to meet.

Did not read this week’s episode yet oops but… is Julia really ready to accept the weight of immortality? Julia’s a lot luckier than most in the sense that her best friend and her love interest are there with her (rip finnegan), and you can’t deny that the circus opens up opportunities and offers a happy life that the members might not have gotten otherwise, but I don’t think it could truly be called living. Life at its core is change, and without death, there is no life. Yes the circus changes locations and even changed themes, but it seems most of the circus members have stopped trying to think or work towards something. They’re content with everything staying the same, and they’ll make sure it stays that way (looking at you, Dotty). Unlike Sahed and Rainah, many don’t seem to understand the gravity of the situation (especially Kamille, but she’s young). What the circus members have signed themselves to is an eternity of a happy, ignorant stagnation—until the moment they decide they cannot take it anymore.

AHHH FREAKING OUT THIS EPISODE WAS SO SO SO MAJOR!! SO MAJORLY IMPORTANT!! MAJOR TURNING POINT!!

despite being so headstrong, julia has rarely made independent decisions. in fact, she follows others to the extreme: happily following the route of becoming a housewife to take care of her father, following kamille into the circus, following sahed into his murder plot

and now julia is questioning the person she loves most in the world... her capacity for critical thought and reflection is honestly amazing... being able to look back at an emotional moment and see it from another perspective is such an important skill that tbh more people need to learn how to do...

ALSOALSO guys i say this every time but this episode takes the CAKE in terms of art... like do y'all see all the environment detail and intricate background characters?? i have nothing wrong w artists using 3d models, but it makes me appreciate marionetta even more when i see all the wallpaper-worthy panels... props to miriam's colorist, eiden, as well!!

drop ur theories as to what u think the last panel means!! i'm more of an analyst girlie than a theory-crafting girlie HAHA but i am so intrigued as to what this means!! next week can't come faster...

It’s very suspicious that there’s no mention of Julia’s mother. No photograph in the background even. Either her father is widowed or she just up and left and was turned in since I doubt divorce is legal in the Kalgratt government. Do you suppose remarriage is allowed? Will Julia’s mother be relevant to the story?

We’ve genuinely gotten so little about Kalgratt so far which is surprising considering how we’re already in s2. Maybe I missed this, but I don’t remember anything about how Kalgratt is really structured and the history of it beyond what we’ve seen in Julia’s life. Usually authors launch into huge info dumps of the world way earlier than now haha but one thing about Miriam is that she tends to slowly immerse you in it, which I think is really good storytelling. So no idea on remarriage but in a society as rigid as Kalgratt’s, I definitely feel like they expect you to stay with your first spouse. And since Julia’s the main character, there’s no way Miriam would leave this plot thread unexplored…

Do you think Julia could build a future with Sahed? Given how Ak’Kon have been treated for centuries I doubt everyone will be willing to accept them even if our heroes do manage to liberate them I don’t think a marriage between a 2 eyes and an Ak’Kon will be legal. At least not right away. Julia might decide to not get married at all if it’s not to Sahed.

I believe that at least in the eyes of Julia and Sahed’s generation, they will always be judged by obstinate people. However, every step they take to break down the current system means they’re working to create a world where future generations won’t have the racist prejudices of the current generation, a world where Ak’kon can exist in peace. While it won’t be the cookie-cutter future Julia envisioned when she was younger, I think she would almost always choose this imperfect, uncertain future with Sahed over it. From when she was young, she’s never been one to turn away from what she thought was wrong, and her sense of justice is so strong that she continues to feel guilty about what’s happening, despite her wanting to believe the Kalgratt government and wanting to stay out of trouble. But who knows? First loves can fall out of love as fast as they fall in… and Julia still needs to figure out her contract…

I’m aghast but not surprised the way women are expected to be housewives if they’re not advanced enough in science and/or don’t have enough girth to be in the military. Julia was way to accepting to the fact that she’s forced to Stay In The Kitchen and bare children for the husband she’s yet to meet. Her only requirement is that this someday husband will allow her to stay home and look after her own father. Considering her personality I’m not sure her choices will be that willing to marry her. I hope she can break away from that mentality by the end of the story.

Ooh ok I haven’t had time to catch up on the recent chapter (out-of-town) but I feel like Julia is the type of person to sacrifice her own wishes and desires for someone she loves. She is a very loyal person, so it makes sense that she would want to stay and help her father, especially if that way of living was engrained in her mind. Heck she even changed the trajectory of her life forever by going back to look for Kamille. I too hope that she will start making choices for herself—not because of someone else or not because of how she think she might be perceived.

I’m happy that Kamille and Julia are on good terms again. It was real sweet of Julia to try to smooth things over with Rainah for Kamille’s sake. Though I think she’s pretty much getting over her crush more or less and is focused on trying to save Julia. I’m sure Kamille would eventually get over her rejected crush. For her joining the circus would mean freedom from a forced boring marriage and would have chosen the same regardless whether or not Rainah returned her feelings.

i agree i hate friendship drama, and i'm happy they're besties again! right now, while we don't have any indication that kamille is getting over rainah quite yet (and i don't think she will for a while), i do agree that saving julia is taking precedence.

what you said about kamille joining the circus for freedom is interesting... kamille holds a idealized, more childlike view of the circus (partly because she's an optimistic person). she thinks of it as someplace to have fun and be with her friends for the rest of eternity. while kamille's perspective fits with the majority of the circus members who just want to play around, she definitely isn't as passive as they are. but i predict that kamille and julia will enter heated conflicts in the future because kamille treats the circus life lightheartedly, while julia has constantly been fighting over the rules of the circus in season 1.

kamille never had to witness finnegan's end... she doesn't realize how restricting her newfound "freedom" really is
