Y'know what makes me hate the Quincies? First of all, they're shit. Super overpowered people that died and hid in the shadows (somehow) of a society that has specialized forces of espionage and vigilance. Fuckers like Aizen, Kurotsuchi and Urahara spent years planning their shits and never once saw a glimpse of "huh, there's something wrong here" ??

And!!! Since the beginning of this story we've been told that the quincies were exterminated by Soul Society, in a frame that makes them victims of SS, which... Ok, maybe their descendants were... But then you show the audience that they're all psycho, kinda n*zi-like with ideas of purity of blood and God knows what else.

But really, the most messed up shit happening is that IT'S A BUNCH OF NEW CHARACTERS WITH 0 STORY GIVEN TO US. And the bits that we have just make everything more confusing.

It's "nice" to see them, but the Quincy are just... Flat. Boring. One note. Don't give the same appeal as the Espada (specially because they're similar in aesthetic). So... Meh, I guess. (And WHY THE FUCK DID THEY PRESENTED A QUINCY THAT WAS A FUCKING ROBOT. HOW. WHY?!?)

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you

#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what #allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of #the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than #to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do #im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt #take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was #mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their #mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that #explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain #direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in #arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to #engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out #theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive #a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked #picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing #sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example #for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war #is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old #wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for #steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with #especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can #look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never #treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time #but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made #feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them #accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me #yapping #diary

I feel like if Chujin was still alive during the events of Undertale Yellow, his and Clover's relationship would be incredibly rocky. Pacifist!Clover could bring him around to tolerating them (after all, they have that sort of effect on everyone), but it would be more in a "this human is the only 'good' human" manner than a "maybe I should reevaluate my opinions on humans overall because you can't judge an entire group based off (very biased) stories and one bad experience." Even then, that opinion would be subject to change should Clover ever get frustrated or behave "too aggressively" or act in any manner that isn't perfectly docile. If Clover ends up attacking a monster then it's "humans are just as horrible as they were in the war stories, I should've known better" regardless of the circumstances that could've pushed Clover to fight. Suffocating expectations and endless demands for patience when he wouldn't ask the same of a fellow monster.

And heaven forbid he ever meet Clover on a No Mercy Run...

#undertale yellow #i hc that his parents were involved in the war and he was born after monsters were sealed underground #so he's one degree removed from all that trauma which is understandable why he'd be so afraid #but at the same time Blackjack had similar circumstances and he came around to liking clover and judging based on character #instead of by who someone is.#sometimes you need to sit down and realize that the problem is you and your views instead of everyone else but he doesn't strike #me as the sort to do that type of self reflection.#Chujin is a character who is absolutely ruled by his fear. he leaves kanako and dalv alone after they were attacked by a human #to sicc axis on integrity. he hinged his whole career on building guard robots (and judging by some of the paperwork in the Steamworks #he was the only one who wanted to build guard robots).#he destroyed his health and left his wife a widow/his child fatherless to craft a serum to defeat humans.#he experimented on a human (child's!!!!) soul and ordered his wife to k.ill an INNOCENT human.#he literally says that humans are incapable of decency in any form!!!!! the writing is on the wall!!!!!#not to sound like I'm bashing on his character because he did do a lot of good for the underground. he made the honeydew resort heater #and Martlet's balcony. and it's implied he built the bridge between the wild east and Starlo's family's farm with the fox-bell #symbol on that bridge. he inspired martlet to take up woodwork which put her on the path to joining the Royal Guard and meeting clover #he likely did a bunch of other good things as well that never got brought up. he did do some good actions.#but he is not someone that i would call a good person.#(realized i ended up with a long string of tags down here. if someone wants to screenshot it and add it to the post go for it)#edit: i find it utterly fascinating that he calls humans incapable of decency yet acknowledges that there can be a pure human SOUL #what an utter hypocrite! i doubt the contradiction ever even occurred to him!

#loved this back up feature so much and seeing that bruce timm shit made me annoyed enough to actually transcribe it #first the way hes depicted as having to stand trial and ARGUE and fight for the rights of using the coin #rather than it just being a compulsion and something he must do before a decision....#like every time. every time when he's 'leaving it up to chance'—thats a time when harvey won. thats a time when harvey fought for the right #to use the coin and make it at least a 50/50 chance instead of 'crawling away until the hard part is done' like two face pushed for #every single time. regardless of the results regardless of knowing theres only a halfway chance of it actually achieving anything #or lessening the damage two face can/will do. every time hes fighting for and still believing in a fair trial and that everyone deserves on #it isnt him being weak. it isnt him avoiding responsibility. its him fighting and forcing and pushing for it as hes internally at war #with himself 24/7. even when two face wins he doesnt give up & continues to fight for what he believes in despite the injustice done to him #the way he tells Judge Janus that it isnt about HIM (himself!) while defending the right of existence to the jury of other societal rejects #the way he gestures to himself only at the very end. he asks the judge does that sound like anyone he knows and janus replies in two faces #voice but harvey keeps going. he keeps fighting for others. but at the end in actually acknowledging two face being part of him #(and by extension harvey being part of two face) and how harvey is fighting just as much to have a place as two face is #(but more within his own mind & upholding his belief system still despite knowing how it continues to fail them) and just FUCK #and two faces snaps! how theres no jurisprudence system above there either ! just no one will admit it!#how harvey knows!!! look what happened to him when he was doing the right thing!#look how many criminals and mob bosses paid their way out! look how the police are corrupt!#but still believing in it and how a system has to be in place despite being a direct victim of it as well and just GOD #I LOVE YOU GOOD HEARTED AND WANTING TO HELP PEOPLE HARVEY DENT YOU WILL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS TO ME !!!!!!!!#taking away how he genuinely wanted to help people and bring wrongs to rights takes away literally everything hes built on #it takes away the entire fucking tragedy of his character (and in many ways it changes how bruce himself operates and believes because #harvey WAS a good man doing everything by the books. he was trying to bring justice in the 'right way' and believed in the system. he was #what people tell bruce he should be and look where it got him. look how the system failed 'even the good ones' because the system itself is #corrupt. it isnt flawed—it was operated to oppress and thats why it cant just be fixed but must be entirely rebuilt and why bruce must #operate outside of it. it also gives more depth because harvey is one of batmans first and biggest failures. he didnt protect him.#he didnt save his parents as a helpless child (as bruce) but he couldn't save his parents as BATMAN.#it wasnt just random chance like his parents tragedy but this was calculated and something bruce didnt stop. its ALWAYS going to eat at #him if he could of prevented it by telling harvey his identity. by doing something different. by being more prepared or somehow #knowing it was going to happen. harvey is the face of tragedy in so many ways that cant fit in these messy rambly tags but its ALLL!!!!!!!#bc harv was (and still is despite it all! despite two face!) a good man!! because he originally was a glimmer of hope to bruce & the city!!

okay. so. i did not vibe with the latest doctor who episode a lot? and idk why exactly. i did still enjoy it for the most part! do love that we're getting more explicit queer romance on the show, but idk it didn't feel...genuine? especially with the doctor saying that ruby's his best friend but then abandoning her to aliens for most of the episode. i'm like really feeling that the overarching plot must be about storytelling. like especially all the blatant references to bridgerton INCLUDING the bad guys and poker face covers. and the teaser line about it being the doctor's life they're playing out. i'm hoping that the arc is kind of about how something (pantheon character?) is kind of controlling the doctor/ruby's story to hit the beats it's supposed to bc its tv but is doing so in a non-organic way which is why the season feels so disjointed and very telling-not-showing. also the weird 6 month time jump between Space Babies and Boom. otherwise i'mgonna feel like it was just kind of poorly written. like! to be clear! i am still enjoying the show! but not as much as i have other seasons

#rachel speaks #doctor who #the rogue #sorry i have many thoughts #i think my favorite episode so far this season has been dot and bubble #it just feels most lilke doctor who and the twist at the end was really well done #i think doctor who is at its best with a good monster (alien) of the week and a mystery to solve #and i think a lot of the episodes this season have either totally strayed from that format or not fully built it out enough #like space babies is a pretty standard motw episode but i felt like there was a lot left out #like i did not get a good reason as to why the doctor was saving the bogeyman #like not even a 'all life deserve to live moment' just a 'oh no you can't kill it and now i've trapped it in the airlock forever instead!'#devils chord felt like it came way too early in the season #and personally as a professional musician music episodes tend to be hit or miss with me #because the more specific they try to be the more wrong they usually are #for example #a tritone is not a chord #and it wasn't actuallyb anned in the middle ages #also the idea of a 'lost chord' is so baffling to me #if we're living in western tonal land (which we clearly were in the episode) there are no lost chords #we know all the chords #if they had said 'melody' i would be more inclined to believe them #anyways so not a huge fan of the devils chord #73 yards was also very good and enjoyable! probably my 2nd favorite #but definitely a departure from standard who #oh i forgot about boom #i liked the anticapitlist anti war stuff #thought the twist was clever #but i felt like it relied too much on a relationship between the doctor and ruby that we hadn't actually seen yet #the rogue went back to that motw format but it spent WAY more time on the relationship between the doctor and the rogue #than actually on the cosplaying aliens

forever rotating in my head the fact that casey has always known about james moriartys identity being fake (which itself alone is a felony in any country; ref: aup novel chpt.5) even before his villain arc, but she never sold him out to the authority, nor did she seriously consider investigating his real identity although she could have easily done so as proven in the later time. on top of how casey instinctively sought any excuse to defend moriarty despite redhandedly catching him committing a crime herself, it just spoke for how much trust she had in him or at least in her guts telling her that he's a good person from the start, which is why the act of moriarty not trusting casey in return and even betraying their friendship while keeping on insisting that he’s an irredeemable villain is so heart-wrenching

#casey selmore #to sum up: casey at first favored her gut feelings for moriarty over reasoning #got betrayed by them so she got more engrossed in proving his motives w reasons instead #but it turns out that her gut feelings are actually correct so during the holy war she staked her trust and her life in them as well #ironically the thing that led casey to the absolute truth about ludger/heathcliff is not her famous genius reasoning but her heart #and ludger/heathcliff couldnt counter her move because he probably never expected casey selmore to ever forsake logic or reasoning #at least not for him #he built her up to be his executioner but in the end his evil scheme was busted and he ended up having to be his own 😔#so grandercore of ludger cherish and so ludgercore of casey selmore
