I've got a similar brainwave touching in on more of how Cale seeks respite from his Record ability
Often in the story it doesn't go into long detail of how Cale rests (that i can remember anyway) except for the instances where he's collapsed, fainted, and unconscious due to "the situation" right.
But there was that one (or two?) Rest periods Cale DID choose by his own will and I assume he follows the same habits for other periods of rest that aren't mentioned as well.
(Mild Novel Spoilers, vauge)
Te one description that stuck so adamantly in my mind was this 6 month period after one of the large wars Cale takes the lead in
(I cant even specify if I wanted to, I only remember the description of the resting habit that followed after cause it was one of the few ever described)
◇ But apparently Cale had slept the majority of his days away. For all 6 months. Easing into the habit, it was described he ate less and less until he only ate a single grape each day. He never locked his doors, but he also never left his room. After a while of sleeping in, he eventually ended staying seated to a rocking chair 24/7 if I remember correctly, one by the window in his room at the Henituse Estate. But it got to a point where even the children nor any of his friends or family could - not that they wanted to use force - but they couldn't pull him away to, yknow- be a living* human being again.
*living as in experiencing life, he's alive but just not active
It was as if he was simply a breathing corpse. His health ofc deteriorated a bit, but he wasn't in pain nor was he suffering. Bc he wouldnt continue if he was.
The vitality ancient power that protects his heart keeps him alive so he just Kept. Sleeping.
...
◇ With all the voices in his head from the powers, and all his proactive handling of matters, and even him not being able to turn off Record - always taking in everything and logging it away in his brain without ever meaning to - it's not a wonder his "rest" is practically him choosing to be comatose.
Esp after everything hes gone through and even everything before that (not going into detail, if u know, u know). Really, its hard to blame him on choosing this method. Its the easiest way to get his brain (which is like a super computer constantly running millions of marathons simultaneously) to shut up and rest.
♤ Which is probably also why the others of his party and everyone who cares for him simply let's him become dormant to such an extent. Because at least its not him fainting on the battlefield after using his powers. Because at least he's not rushing himself around to get something done. Because at least he's home. Because at least he's safe.
Personally, I dont believe that there Wasn't originally some reluctance from his loved ones. Its unheard of to WANT to live like a corpse. But maybe after a while of hearing "yea ill join the dinner table in a moment" or "ill get up and stretch in a second" and Cale pulling himself up to do so (because he keeps his word n never says what he doesn't mean) only to return right to his room after, right to the very spot they tried to get him out of? After a while of that, you simply start to find excuses for that behavior. "Because at least he's not straining himself," "Because at least he's not working," "Be. Cause. At Least Hes Resting..."
♤ They most likely only let him become comatose to rest - even tho he already goes unconscious too many times on-field to even keep count - because its better than any alternative they assume Cale will do otherwise. And perhaps it Is a mix of that and pity thats making them hold their concerns.
---
Ahh I've rambled, but man do I love this guy and his story XD
Anyways its as OP mentions:
"[Sitting on his balcony] His feet hanging, his heart quiet and his gaze fixated on nothingness"
He Does do that. Maybe it is on the balcony or a tree and the story doesn't describe it, but his rest IS just blanking out.
♧ Isn't that pitiful? That the only rest Cale can truely ever get is when he's not awake?
♧ But ofc that doesn't bother him one bit. And no one really wants to tell him not to blank out to the extreme Because how can he rest otherwise? (♤)
... how bittersweet imo
What if Cale had a habit of wandering to high balconies or roof tops and just sitting there whenever he was stressed/sad?
See it this way: Kim Rok Soo had the habit of roaming around destroyed buildings and finding a high spot and just sitting there? Perhaps he liked seeing the horizon. Or maybe he wanted to see how far the destroyed area stretched to. Or maybe he thought of it as his responsibility to look out for anyone injured, who may still be looking for help. Either way, it brought him peace, some sort of serenity and quietness.
So anyways, as Cale, after the conflicts with White Star started, his habit involuntarily reappeared. He would frequently go on roof tops, sometimes a tall tree or just sit upon the balustrade of his balcony. His feet hanging, his heart quiet and his gaze fixated on nothingness.
And now imagine someone, maybe Raon or Ron, catching him sitting on the edge of the balcony with a blank face. Then the panic, the chaos, and maybe Cale lost his footing because of the startling shout, and he fell down before balancing himself mid-air thanks to the wind ap.
Now imagine him trying to explain that it was just on a whim, that he has no intentions of hurting himself, but the children keep on sobbing and his family hang their heads down with despairing eyes, and now Cale feels helpless.
And maybe he feels a pang of guilt, because sometimes, just sometimes, he had a fleeting thought, a nonsensical urge to jump off, not to hurt himself, like he hated pain more than anything, and of course, living was the best, but there was the curiosity to see how it would feel, first the amazement, then the numbness, and finally the quietness of his Records.
It's only a thought, he convinced himself. But that didn't stop his habit, the worrying gazes of his family and their watchful eyes on Cale, and the relentless explanations that would follow, with Cale always failing to convince them that he is fine.

Preview | Alternate Moodboard | Chapter 8 Teaser
A/N: I’m back after 2049 years. thank you for hanging in there uhm HAHHA
Tumblr media
You’ll never believe it, but it was a success.
I blew a million in twenty four hours, and it was mostly used up on buying unnecessarily expensive clothing for my family and friends, and family friends, and friend’s family, and family friend’s family, and friend’s family friends, and paying off debt.
Needless to say I have acquired many expensive things and bought so many things I’ve always wanted to buy. I ended up donating all the clothes I did not really particularly care for to a charity, and a few couple bucks as well.
Another needless thing to mention is that I have never thought impulse buying would be so stressful, yet oddly relaxing at the same time.
Today I drove to school with Mark, whose car I payed off by the way.
It was no big deal. It wasn’t like it was a Ferrari. It was a Ford he had initially bought anyway. Unrelated note, I even bought his dog a Gucci cape.
Nari also knows about my engagement because of how many things I brought home at once. I thought it would be bad if I told her, but oh my goodness she was probably too supportive over everything that was going on.]
The funny thing about today is that I don’t have pocket money.
Mark and I laughed about it so hard.
I’m not worried though. I bought food at home anyway, and can walk back from school or hitch another ride with Mark.
Mark and I walked to class together, and on our way I saw Jinyoung.
I called for him and waved my hands, ready to run up to him. When he didn’t react, I figured he couldn’t hear me, so I just jogged up to him, knowing Mark would follow anyway.
“Jinyoung-ah,” I called once I was in front of him. I was taken aback when he grunt and pushed past me. I knit my brows and went in front of him once more, raising my hands to my sides to block his path. “Jinyoung.”
He scoffed and rolled his eyes, placing his hand on my shoulder, pushing me away, “Don’t talk to me.”
I felt my stomach drop at his words. By then Mark was here, pulling a face out of confusion. “Ya, what’s up?”
Jinyoung whips his head back and snaps, “What’s up?! What’s up is that I can’t trust my friends because they lie to me and go behind my back.”
I pull my head back, “What? We don’t lie to you Jinyoung!”
“Ha!” Jinyoung heaves in annoyance, “That’s another lie!”
At this point, he’s practically fuming red with anger. Mark tries to make him calm down by placing a hand on his shoulder but this only makes Jinyoung snap and shove Mark off. “Don’t you two dare talk to me in class.”
I huffed and let him walk away. Mark and I turn to each other, “He couldn’t be talking about... the money, right?”
Mark knits his brows deeply and shakes his head, “I don’t think Jinyoung would be upset about something like that.” He turns to me, “What’d you do?”
I pull my head back, “What’d I do? What’d you do?”
“I don’t do anything, remember? I literally sleep all day everyday. You on the other hand have a sugar daddy,” Mark says, whispering the last words.
I give him a look and slap his arm, “Shut up, there is no way he knows about that.”
Mark shakes his head, “Whatever you say, darling.”
Gosh, I hate it when Mark starts making sense.
All throughout the class, I couldn’t focus on Mr. Choi talk about truth. Instead my eyes were basically burning a hole behind Jinyoung’s head. It didn’t mean he turned back at all however.
STFU TUAN: he’s ignoring my texts
I huff and turn to Mark who was across the room due to the fact we arrived late and there were no longer any seats.
I try to text Jinyoung as well.
My heart skips a beat when my phone vibrates, but alas, it’s only Mark sending me a picture of myself from across the room.
STFU TUAN: u are so whipped
STFU TUAN: i feel so bad
I roll my eyes and ignore his text.
STFU TUAN: don’T VISIBLY IGNORE ME TOO!!!
At this point, Mark is blowing up my phone with keyboard smash. I huff and roll my eyes. I should not have paid for his phone bill.
Once it gets too much, I decide to finally reply too him. I open my phone only to see that I received a text from another contact.
Jackson Wang: Are you available today for a date?
I turn to Jinyoung, and suddenly, everyone in the room is standing up as apparently class was over. I scramble to my feet and look to see if Jinyoung was still there, but knowing how he gets when he’s upset, I catch him when he’s almost bolted out of the door.
I huff and find Mark walking towards me.
“So what’s the plan?” Mark asks once he’s in front of me. I huff and turn to my phone when it vibrates again.
Jackson Wang: Are you busy?
“Who’s that?” Mark asks and I ignore him to reply.
Me: i still have classes
“Oh my gosh, is that sugar da--” “I told you just call him sugar!”
Mark’s eyes widen and then he gets all smug, “You slick.”
I roll my eyes.
Jackson Wang: What time to you finish?
Me: about two hours from now
Jackson Wang: ALright.
Jackson Wang: Meet me here *photo attached*
Jackson Wang: Or should  i pick you up?
Me: Its fine ill go by myself.
---
“Over here,” I hear a voice say when I enter the restaurant. Upon seeing a sharply dressed Jackson Wang smiling, I couldn’t help but smile back as I walked over to him. He stands from his seat by the window and greets me when I get close enough.
But the hug I was expecting, turned out to be a kiss on my cheek. I feel my cheeks burn slightly.
Jackson pulls away and smiles, “Sorry.” He speaks in a low voice, “I think there are a few people hanging out here, trying to make sure you’re my real girlfriend.”
I raise my brows and move my head slightly to turn back, but Jackson cuts me off my saying, “Dior looks good on you.”
I freeze upon hearing that and stutter, “How-how’d you--”
“You get used to it. Also, there’s a subtle logo around here?” Jackson says, rubbing his chest, which makes me mimic and realize he’s been looking at my-- “Have you eaten yet?” he asks, breaking my train of thought.
I look at him and expect him to speak again, but find myself trailing off a “No,” instead.”
“Oh you haven’t eaten lunch yet?”
He then escorts me to the counter side and we stand to look at the menu... I guess. Jackson has his arm over my shoulder. He leans in. I feel goose bumps form around me when I feel his breath against my neck. “Don’t be concerned about them though, they’re just sent by some nosy relatives or friends.”
Once he pulls away, I clear my throat and find myself turning to him. Once his eyes meet mine, thinking of him seeing my probably flushed face made me panic and hide it... on his chest.
Jackson chuckles, and decides to embrace me and coo, “So sweet.”
He sounds like a natural. He must’ve had tonnes of girlfriends... or tonnes of fake ones. I can’t help but feel all sour over that, which is why I pull back and turn to him, “I want some chicken.”
He nods, “Then chicken you shall have.”
After ordering, we go back to our seats and I get a picture of just how pretty this restaurant is. Jackson notices me looking around, and so he asks, “You like it?”
“Yeah, it’s so instagram aesthetic.”
He laughs a little too amused at that, and so I turn to him with a questioning look. Jackson smiles, “I’m glad you think so, because I’m just about to take millions of photos of you and post them on instagram.” With that said, he pulls out his phone, “Of course, it you don’t mind.”
I hesitate to answer but find myself thinking I probably don’t have a choice. I then nod and do a peace sign, which makes Jackson squeal in pleasure, “AH CUTE!”
Jackson then pulls out his phone and takes rapid-fire photos of me. The shutter on his phone goes off so many times, I got all flustered as I was only striking one pose.
“Should I...” I say, changing poses.
“You’re doing great, sweetheart.”
I turn to Jackson behind his phone and give a dumbfounded look, “You’re not helping.”
Jackson doesn’t care and continues taking photos. I purse my lips and raise my hands, “M’kay, that’s enough photos for now.”
Jackson chuckles then begins to shake his head with a pout, “Nuh-uh, we have to take a selca first.”
I raise my brows at him and he begins to walk over. He then bends down and puts his forehead against mine, free hand going to my neck. He gives a smile to the camera and says “selca!” I turn to his phone and find myself visibly uncomfortable.
I try to give a smile, but I end up screwing my eyes shut and breaking away with a nervous laugh.
Jackson straightens up at that and chuckles at my reaction, “Alright. That’s enough for now. Don’t want you turning into a tomato on me.”
After eating, Jackson and I decided to walk around, arm linked together.
“How did you get here?”
I turn to him to see him looking down on me. “Taxi,” I quickly reply and turn away.
Jackson nods, “You should buy a car after this.”
All at once, the anxiety of spending money comes back, and then I find myself thinking of Jinyoung. I sigh, “I can’t drive.”
Jackson nudges me slightly and gives an amused face, “I’ll teach you.”
I can’t help but smile at him and shrug, “Alright.”
Jackson feels victorious and agrees, “It’s a date.”
At this point, we end up in this pretty neighborhood with pretty front yards and pretty porches. I couldn’t help but audibly note on this, “Look at that pretty house!”
“You’re prettier.”
I snort and shove Jackson when he says this. He chuckles and sidesteps due to impact. And because we’ve broken away, I got to look back behind us. I noticed that there were a bunch of guys who I recognized where from the restaurant.
I tense and move back close to Jackson, “They’re following us.”
He shakes his head, “Don’t mind them. We’re not doing anything wrong, except probably being young and in loooove.”
I cringe at Jackson and pinch his side. Yet again he seems awfully amused with himself. “If this is what it’s like dating you, I’m glad I’m not.”
Jackson pouts out in a frown, “Meanie! Also too bad because we are dating.”
I narrow my eyes at him, “Yeah, yeah, only until you’re tired of me though.”
The man’s demeanor visibly shifts, “That’s... not a nice thing to say.”
For a moment we look at each other and stop our walking. I suddenly feel bad for saying such a thing, though it may be true. “I...” but Jackson’s screech of a laugh cuts me off short, “Your face!”
I let out a breath and contort into annoyance, “well harty-har-har.”
Jackson is still catching his breath when I start walking again.
“Hey hold on.”
Once he catches up with me, he places his hand on my shoulder again, “So tell me about your day? Has it been good, I mean, beside going out on a date with me.”
I want to give a sassy reply, but when I think back at what happened with Jinyoung, I end up saying something else, “It’s bleh.”
The man frowns, “Why is that? Is business math killing you.”
I can’t help but chuckle, “No... it’s fine.”
“NOOO TELL ME!”
“Jackson, it really isn’t.”
“Tell me!” Jackson exclaims in a screamo voice and I turn to him with an annoyed expression, “Geez, fine. I had a fight with my best friend.”
“Hmmmm, is it... the Jinyoung guy.” Jackson says warily.
My heart skips for multiple reasons at the thought that he remembers that. I nod in reply.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Honestly, he’s probably just being a drama queen. It’s his specialty. Doesn’t mean I’m not concerned though. He just as an awful way of coping, and his temper doesn’t help with it.”
Jackson nods upon hearing this, “Well, don’t worry too much about him then. You said he does this a lot so I’m sure he’ll come around.”
I nod at his words and he give me another pout, “hey, don’t go frowning on me.”
I proceed to force a smile. Jackson coos at this and pinches my cheeks, “Aw sooooo cute!” He then looks far off behind me, “Hey, you want some ice cream.”
I perk up like a child on Christmas morning. He laughs as I nod with enthusiasm. I proceed to run off to the stand. Jackson takes an opportunity to take a photo of the incident. When I turn back and see what he is doing, I cover my face and yell behind my hands, “Stop it!”
Jackson laughs lowly and says to himself, “I really can’t.”

Description:
Seonghwa didn't know who he had expected to be there at Yunho's movie night marathon. All he was told by Yeosang was that he had invited a couple friends over. He had never thought he'd find himself reunited with the very person that taught him what love really was, and to have a chance at it again.
Seonghwa knew what love was. He knew about it before he was even in preschool.
His mother and father, holding hands as they stared into each other's eyes, whispering confessions before giving a peck on the lips to eachother, waving goodbye as one of them left.
His mother and fathers thumbs caressing eachothers hands, sitting on the couch as his fathers arms enveloped his mothers frame, both content, both warm.
His mother and father, in love.
He saw it every day. He knew what love was.
He was told in class once that being in love would be when hes most happiest. He was told in class once that being in love was what everyone wanted. He was told in class once that being in love felt like you were a firework, about to be ignited, and when you saw the person you loved, you would light up, and felt like as if your body was on fire.
He was told about it every day. He knew what love was.
It wasn't until Seonghwa reached his senior years in high school that he contemplated love. Looking back, he had never really felt what people told him love felt like. He had had his fair shares of relationships, and by the way he felt absolutely downtrodden after his breakup with a guy in his class two years ago, he really had thought he had been in love. But maybe... it was just infatuation? Maybe an oblivious case of puppy love.
He remembered the day clearly.
It was stormy, the rain pouring down as Seonghwa looked out the window of the library. He had came here to study, as his last exam was coming up and he couldnt afford to fail. His scholarship depended on it.
He sat alone at a table, the librarian allowing him to keep his hot chocolate as his books and papers laid in front of him, his small makeshift study desk unorganised and messy.
He watched as the rain droplets danced around each other, how they stepped close before stepping back before colliding together, catching eachother and finishing their dance at the bottom of the window pane.
What a weird metaphor, he thought. Rain droplets, two lovers dancing around each other and away, too scared to cross paths before giving their all to their other.
He had never felt such a way.
A hand slammed on his desk, tearing him away from his thoughts. He looked up at the culprit, his wide eyes furrowing as he took in who had scared him.
"Hongjoong," He stopped twirling his pen between his fingers, holding it steady as its tip nearly touched paper. "What do you need?"
"I just wanted to check on you!" Hongjoong smiled, and Seonghwa felt warmth blossom in his chest at the confession. Hongjoong grabbed a chair from the table infront of Seonghwa, turning it to sit at Seonghwas desk. "You've been hauling yourself up here a lot lately, I was worried if you were doing good," Seonghwa fought a smile as the shorter boy sat down, leaning onto Seonghwas table.
"I have been doing fine, just studying," Hongjoong furrowed his eyebrows at the statement.
"But exams have finished?"
"Not this last one, its an exam to confirm whether or not I will be going to my desired University,"
"Oh? But i thought the scholarship covered that?"
"No, it was like a golden ticket. All expenses paid and a course set for me as long as I ace this exam,"
"What happens if you dont pass?"
"They take my scholarship and give it to someone else. They also refer me to other universities and colleges that would suit me if I so ask them too," Hongjoong looked down at the desk, eyes examining the strewn papers as he pouted. Seonghwa could fight the smile that ordained his face.
"Whens the exam?" Seonghwa grabbed one of his textbooks and his writing book, copying a few things down.
"On Friday," Hongjoongs eyes widened, his mouth agape.
"Thats only two days away! You better be studying!"
"You said you came up here because of how ive been," Seonghwa put down his pen, raising his hands to make air quotes. "'Hauling myself up here'"
Hongjoong banged the table, causing a semi loud bang to exho through the library. The librarian looked aorund the corner, pinpointing Hongjoong with her glare and shushing him. Hongjoongs cherks turned red as embarrassment took over him.
"I-I know i said that! I just— didn't you just have your last school exam yesterday, then? Have you been studying for this exam while stuudying for the schools ones, or just started now?" Seonghwa wtched as Hongjoong leaned back in his chair, a pout making its way back onto his face.
"I had been studying for this since Saturday, ap you do not need to worry. In fact, i think this may be my last long study session for a while. I'm pretty confident of where i stand right now," Hongjoong looked up at Seonghwa, a small smile forming.
"Thats nice to hear. Does that mean you could probably hang out with us tomorrow? We all miss you..." Hongjoong trailed off, having grabbed Seonghwas pen and spinning it on the table. Seonghwa felt more warmth course through his body at the statement. He missed them too.
"I will, do not fret. I've just been—"
"—We know you've been busy! You don't need to say it, we all have been busy!," Seonghwa stared at Hongjoong, the sudden outburst unexpected. "But... That was a yes?" Hongjoong sat up straighter, his eyes wide and sparkling. How cute.
...Cute?
"Yes, I will be there Joongie, don't worry," Hongjoong jumped up, startling Seonghwa. He grabbed Seonghwas hands and held the tight, smiling brightly.
"After school, meet up at the front gates, do not be a single minute late!" And as quickly as Hongjoong had showed up, he ran off, barreling through the library doors with a bang, the librarian looking at Seonghwa with a frown while the boy stared at his hands, caught off guard by what Hongjoong had done.
He traced his left hand with his right, and his right with his left, eyes wide as he felt the tingles in his hands slowly dissipate. He felt somewhat... giddy. A rush from when Hongjoong had touched him. Seonghwa felt heat rise on his cheeks.
And while his body was still riding the high of the moment, from when Hongjoong held his hands, to his bright smiles directed at him, he couldn't help but think 'Oh no'.
***************************
It was a stormy day, and Seonghwa was stuck in his dorm. His roommate had left earlier, telling Seonghwa that he was visiting his parents for the week. So here Seonghwa was, alone in his dorm, a storm playing out right in front of him, and his hands curled around a cup full of hot chocolate as he lived carelessly for the week off. What more could he ask for?
He sipped his hot beverage, humming in content as he swirled the hot chocolate in his mouth, savouring the taste.
As he reminisced in the moment, his phone chimed. Seonghwa turned his head towards his phone, glancing at the notification on the lock screen. He leant over, grabbing the phone and unlocking it. He clicked on the notification, which was a message, and read it.

***************************
It was an hour before Seonghwa had to leave. He had just gotten out of the shower, mostly wiped down, but his hair was still dripping.
He shook his head, feeling his hair stick to his face and water droplets fly everywhere. He brought up the towel to his head and vigorously dried his hair.
After drying himself down, he got dressed. Nothing extravagant or formal, but something comfortabe and simple. It was practically a sleep over he was invited to, after all.
It was now 15 minutes till Seonghwa would have to be at Yunho's. He know walking to Yunho's dorm would take at least 10 minutes, since it was not on the other side of campus, but a far bit away.
Seonghwa went through his mental checklist. Phone, check. Charger, check. Earphones, check. Small over the shoulder bag full of snacks, a pair of spare clothes, and an apparent rose flavoured lip balm, check.
At the thought of the lip balm, he licked his lips. His lips had been dry during the week from the cold weather, so he took up Yeosangs advice on picking up one or two lip balms. Of course, he bought the only ones that were supposedly to be what a flower would taste like. He picked up the lip balm, applying it to his lips and smacking them together before putting it back.
He checked the time.
12 minutes left.
He grabbed all his things, his keys jingling in his hands and a dmall umbrella in his pockets. He opened his dorm door, exiting and locking the door before finally leaving the dorm building. He grabbed his umbrella, opening it up once he stepped foot outside, wlaking along the footpath, frowning when he noticed the mud making its way across the path.
He sighed as the rain started to pour harder, his grip tightening on his umbrella.
He did not want to walk back to his dorm through this weather.

He made it to Yunho's dorm a bit later than he had expected. His shoes were caked in mud, and no, he did not slip in mud, he just wanted to be like Peppa Pig for a fleeting moment.
He knocked on Yunho's door, wiping his shoes off at the mat and taking them off. He shook his umbrella, the water flying everywhere. Maybe he should ahve done that outside, but it was too late now.
The door opened, revealing Yeosang who just pouted.
"You're late," Seonghwa pushed past Yeosang, dropping his umbrella near the door and placing his shoes near the rest. There's definitely a few new pairs there, either Yunho got more shoes, or his friends are already here.
"You try walking here in this weather," A few laughs were heard in the distance. Yep, definitely here.
Yeosang shook his head, closing and locking the door. He turned to Seonghwa, grabbing his hand and dragging him towards lounge.
"So, what's happened so far?"
"Nothing much! Just been playing some switch waiting for you," Yeosang stopped as they made it to the lounge. "Look who's here!" Seonghwa looked at the three men that were on the couch, all three watching the TV as they battled in MarioKart.
"Is it Seonghwa?" Yunho asked before he crossed the finish line, jumping up and laughing.
"I win!" The man sat on the right of Yunho crossed the line next, pointing to the man that sat on the left of Yunho, laughing.
"And you're last!" The man on the left sighed, corssing the line.
"Wow, that was so fun," Yunho laughed, the man that came second now standing up and turning around. Huh, almost as tall as Yunho.
"Let me introduce them to you, Hwa?" The man on the left, stood up, but still didnt turn around. Quite short, thats cute.
"This," Yunho gestured towards the taller man out of the two newcomers. "Is Mingi," The man now identified as Mingi waved his hand, a smile plastered on his face.
"And this," Yunho reached over to the smaller man, grabbibg his shoulder and forcefully turning him around. "Is—"
For a moment, the world stopped.
For a moment, their eyes met.
For a moment, they were seeing eachother again.
"—Hongjoong?" Seonghwa blurted out, cutting off Yunho. The shorter man, now known as Hongjoong, shared a similar expression to Seonghwa, yes wide and mouth agape.
Holding hands, watching as the sun set over the horizon, the light painting his face, his eyes sparkling.
"Seonghwa?" Yunho looked between the two, confusion plastered all over his face.
Bright smiles, warm laughs. Soft lips, peppered kisses.
"You two knew eachother?" Seonghwa nodded, at a loss for words as he stared at the boy infront of him.
"Thats so cool! It's like it's fate for you two to meet again," Yunho exclaimed. "But come on, we gotta get ready for our movie marathon, its half hour past the time we were supise to start!"
***************************
It was around midnight that Seonghwa finally couldnt take the awkwardness around him and Hongjoong. He got up from his spot on the floor, making his way to the kitchen and flicked on the light, going to grab a drink and a snack from his bag.
As he trifled through his bag, finding the pack of chips he craved for, he turned around and almost felt his soul leave his body.
There was Hongjoong, standing right in front of him.
He had to hold back a scream.
"Woah! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," Hongjoong threw his hands up, taking a step back.
Seonghwa gained back his thoughts, the adrenaline dissipating.
"Do you need something?" He asked. He watched as Hongjoong suddenly became nervous, looking down at his feet. He has red hair... it looks... fluffy.
"I-I just... I kinda wanted to talk to you?" Seonghwa felt heat rise to his cheeks as he ran through the possibilities of just what Hongjoong would possibly say.
"About what?"
Silence overtook the two for a moment. Then Hongjoong spoke up.
"About... why you left," Seonghwa shifted his body, suddenly feeling so small. "Why you never contacted us," He felt shame slowly seep through his body. "Why you... never contacted... me," He looked down at his feet.
No one spoke for a minute, both thinking, both waiting.
"I never did get my scholarship..." Hongjoong looked up at Seonghwa, eyes wide.
"Wha—"
"I passed the exam for it, but by the time the people giving out the scholarship had marked it, all the scholarships had been given away,"
Seonghwa felt tears begin to pool in his eyes.
"I was so disappointed in myself, I didnt want you all to see me," He inhaled shaky breath, emotions coming back as he relived the moment in his mind. "So I just told you all that I got in and... left,"
He felt Hongjoong take his hands, caressing them softly. Like he used too.
"Why did you never talk to me after? You didnt even tell me you wanted to break up," Hongjoongs voice broke near the end. "You just went... radio silent," Seonghwa couldn't help the tear that ran down his face.
"I never wanted to break up," Seonghwa squeezed Hongjoongs hands. "I just— I wanted time, time to fix things, so i could say I was attending college, that I wasn't a fuck up..." He felt Hongjoong squeeze his hands back, he heard how the other boy sniffled. He must be crying too.
"Seonghwa, listen to me," Suddenly, Hongjoong was cupping his face, his hands so soft, and his eyes looking straight into Seonghwas soul. "You are not a fuck up, you hear me?"
"I'm sorry," His voice broke, tears now streaming down his face, one after the other. Hongjoong had tears slipping down his face himself. He lifted his thumb, wiping some tears off Seonghwas face.
"It's okay, I forgive you, HwaHwa," Seonghwa couldn't help but let a whine escape him at the nickname.
"HwaHwa! You're so cute!"
Hongjoong laughed wetly at the reaction.
"You'd think i forget what that nickname did to you," He stroked Seonghwas cheek lovingly, smiling fondly at Seonghwa, and Seonghwa couldnt help but feel his previous worries disappear just looking at him.
Seonghwa buried his face into Hongjoongs neck and threw his arms around Hongjoongs shoulders, letting another embarrassed whine escape him.
Hongjoong laughed at the action, snaking his arms around Seonghwas waist. They both stayed in that position for a few minutes, iust enjoying the company, the warmth. Enjoying eachother.
Hongjoong threw his arms over Seonghwas neck, pulling him down to give him a strong hug.
"Your hugs are the best, Joongie,"
Seonghwa felt Hongjoong shift, his hold on Seonghwa loosening. He felt a hand coursing through his hair, the action sending shivers down his spine, and a blush on his cheeks.
"I've missed this," Hongjoong whispered. Seonghwa picked his head back up, looking at Hongjoong.
"I did too," Hongjoong smiled.
Hongjoong raised his hand, putting it under Seonghwas chin and slowly pulling him down back towards him. Soon enough, their noses were touching, and they could feel eachothers breaths fan eachothers faces.
It took just a moment for Seonghwa to understand what Hongjoong wanted to do.
He looked to Hongjoongs eyes, noticing how they flickered back up to his then fown to his lips. Seonghwa did the same, his gaze lowering down to Hongjoongs own plush lips.
Seonghwa unconsciously licked his own.
"Can I..." Hongjoong trailed off, but Seonghwa knew what he was asking. He nodded his head, feeling Hongjoong pull him closer.
Then he felt Hongjoongs lips on his.
And suddenly, he felt like he was back in high school. When Hongjoong would sneak up on him in the bathrooms to give him a few wuick pecks on the lips before running away. When Hongjoonga arms would wrap around his his waist, pulling him into his lap, and even if Seonghwa was the taller one out of them, Hongjoong would always find a way to make Seonghwa feel small and safe in his arms.
He felt light again, like all his problems had been thrown away. He felt like the weight he carried had been lifted.
Seonghwa broke the kiss first, gasping for air, breathless. His lips a shade of bright pink
Hongjoong just stared at the boy, breath taken at the sight before him.
Hongjoong pulled Seonghwa back down again, both diving in for a kiss, each one more heated than the last.
Soon enough, both broke away, catching their breathe as they were pushed against eachother.
"I've wanted to do that for so long since then. I've missed it sso much," Hongjoong panted out.
"Me too," Seonghwa took a hold of Hongjoongs hands, looping his fingers between his own.
"This means that, you know," Hongjoong was anxious again, eyes flicking from Seonghwa to the floor. "That we'll do this again... right? That—"
"That we'll be back together?" Seonghwa cut in, heart beating fast at what Hongjoong was asking.
"Yes," Hongjoong looked up at Seonghwa, still nervous on what the answer would be.
And Seonghwa couldn't have answered more perfectly.
"Of course," Seonghwa dived back in for another kiss, this one not heated, but filled with something more deeper. He broke the kiss, burying his face in Hongjoongs neck. "Of course,"
"I love you," Seonghwa felt his heart stutter.
"I love you too," Hongjoong smiled, pulling Seonghwa towards him.
"Forever," Hongjoong whispered.
"Always," Seonghwa whispered back.
