not to sound like a bitch, but why can my roommates have the house as cold as they please no matter how cold and uncomfortable I am (just put on warm clothes and a blanket!) but god forbid I turn the heat to 74 (this apparently is too hot for Men to act as functional members of society)

I think you should read webcomics but I also think you should challenge yourself about it, go find that odd creation that's out there because one horny lady once thought it was cool or a dude was giving his first shot at a story and it came all wrong or they tried to do it traditional and their only medium was pencil and printer paper. Maybe if you like reading romance on webtoons you can go look at comic fury and see someone's nightmare of a comic or maybe you like sci-fi and there's someone on tapas drawing the sexiest priest ever who will finally not bore you. Maybe all you've read are Hiveworks webcomics when The Duck comics are right there and maybe that comic that's using only 3D assets that turned you off at first really has the most compelling writing you'll see this year. It's easy to say "read more webcomics" and give you the same three suggestions or collectives over and over. The net is vast and infinite and so is the array of human creation.
Maybe start with a random one. And then keep jumping

Everyone now is super excited to use their 3D printers. With this magical new piece of science-fiction, you too can produce the exact wad of plastic you need to solve a problem. Need a tube, but at a weird angle in order to connect it to another tube? It's just six hours away, baby, unless something goes wrong and you have to get a new extruder shipped. House full of plastic pieces that are worthless because you fucked up basic measuring on them? Print a bin to put them in until you have a wobbly table to level out.
Now, don't think I'm down on this new technology. Like many hobbyists, I cherish any new power that lets me pretend to be a 1980s comic book villain. I love to be able to make, with just a thought, the exact piece of extruded microplastics that I need to hold my garbage-picked trash parts together in a new configuration. Whether or not this combination of parts ever should have existed is a matter for the philosophers.
Naturally, I don't have a 3D printer, because they cost money and require electricity, neither of which I have. Instead of this, I go on the internet and complain bitterly that certain things are impossible to make. Then, I wait until some nerds get mad and make those things just to shut me up. At this point – and this is critical – I do not shut up. I go and take my new headlight bracket, or fancy mirror-alignment clip, or replacement molar, and I complain about it endlessly. "It could be smoother," I say. Maybe their printer sucks, I propose. This usually gets me a couple more spite projects, until they are driven into the insane asylum by my endless requests for useless gewgaws.
Yes indeed: the democratized future of at-home manufacturing is finally here. Used to be, cranks like myself would have to phone a machine shop and get the old guy working the mill super angry before he would spitefully bang out a 20-hour piece of magic. Now, you have thousands of weird nerds to pick from, and all of them available for just the cost of a library card and a throwaway forum account.

ok but which primarchs would PLAY (or paint/build/collect/read) warhammer thank u beloved oomf for the help @w-40-k their text in bold
Lion El'johnson: nah, I don't think so. he thinks it's a waste of time but if it's happening near him he's glancing over going "I could do better, fucking idiots,," but he'd sooner flip the table than play
Fulgrim: painting only probably? and it's not even 40k it's the most elaborate and beautiful age of sigmar models for sure. if he does play and god forbid loses he needs his fainting couch immediately his ego is SO bruised. ferrus manus will be hearing of this
Perturabo: building! obviously! he's really annoying abt it as well like "ugh, you use push to fit? kys." but he's got the skills to back it up his kitbashes are immaculate. apparently he also did mini painting in canon which sounds about right. I think he would enjoy building the structure sets for obvious reasons
Jaghatai Khan: I'd almost want to say the Khan wouldn't have the patience for painting, but I could maybe see him enjoy the game casually. Listens to Magnus read the lore aloud to him.
Leman Russ: Russ is a book nerd, might play a game or two if his friends really want him to. I could actually see him enjoying the ttrpg asepect. very interested but the rules r throwing him off. he thinks theyre dumbb as hell but he does have his armies set up like he's going to play but he never does
Rogal Dorn: unlikely he will get into one but once he does he's ALL in. every aspect at 100% he's built and painted every army, read every book and codex and is playing like he is fr trying to kill you. it's serious
Konrad Curze: he atee the minis sorry. would abhor any lore he learns abt cause every in 40k sucks. Konrad I could see being a painter, might be really into the game meta side of the hobby, regularly proposes* new plans on how to balance the gameplay. Might actually participate in the odd mini painting contest and has won a couple medals. *read: threatened
Sanguinius: another one who probably wouldn't get into it but if you were interested he would put a lot of effort into understanding it so he could share the hobby with you. would genuinely enjoying reading the books though
Ferrus Manus: can't decide if he would love or hate magnetised minis. either way he's another building freak. I also think he would buy a 3D printer just for this. Ferrus might be into kitbashing but not necessarily the painting side of things. Perhaps he gives his finished kitbashes to Fulgrim to paint. Might ask fulgrim to cook up some 3D schematics if he doesn't find pieces that work for his build.
Angron: gamer raging cause of the nails but he is enjoying it underneath that
Roboute Guilliman: VERY into playing. this man loves any type of tabletop, board or any type of strategy game. he takes it very seriously and has someone taking notes so he can review his performance and improve next battle
Mortarion: collector and reader but thinks no one would want to play with him so he doesn't bother. he does have his army rules memorised though bless him
Magnus: do I even need to say it? hes read every peice of warhammer fiction from its inception to now and he will Never Stop. Does lore deep dives and discussions.
Horus Lupercal: he's very charismatic and quick on his feet so I'd say he enjoys the game and his opponents would have a good time also. he reminds me of those people who get mad pussy cause they play dnd and are good at improv
Lorgar Aurelian: LOREgar. he has every codex despite not caring about the game. very into the sisters of battle and the more insane aspects of the 40k Imperium
Vulkan: hes just there to have a good time :]!!!! a true casual player. kind of a tourist (neutral connotations) but enjoys all aspects of warhammer. Vulkan is another kitbasher who paints decently good but his heart(s) is only in the kitbashing. Might play a game but he's only in it for the fun of the game, happiest if everyone is having a good time.
Corvus Corax: kill team player who secretly takes it very seriously but outwardly tries to play it off
Alpharius/Omegon: I have absolutely no idea I'm so sorry. they're playing but only to play devious mind fuck tricks on you to stress you out
fun post I enjoyed making this

dialtown object head model masterlist
looong post incoming! i've been on a hunt to have a full list of what every dialtown character's head is, kind of as an extension of my own phone (and printer) collecting irl. these were compiled with the help of a very kind handful of people, most notably @germaaaaaaaaaa who has a real knack for sniffing models out! photos are from the sources linked as well as my own personal collection.
phonegingi/callum
3D models based on this specific Ericsson Bakelite 1507, as shown in the extras menu (see first photo below). Note the broken plate on the front where one would put the number card, which is reflected in both Gingi and Callum’s models (Gingi’s has it facing downwards, and Callum’s faces upwards):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
typegingi
3D model based on two typewriter models: the overall shape is that of a 1948-1949 Royal Quiet Deluxe, while the keys, carriage, and various details (like the color indicator dots to the side of the keyboard) from an Olympia SM9. Jbhusker on r/typewriters identified that for me :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
oliver
Telecom Eireann Slaney, the Irish version of the BT Relate 200, in color “oatmeal”. He also has a removable plastic standee part on the back that allows it to be hung on the wall, which we don’t see in his sprites but we do see in an image Dog posted of the back of the phone (which is how we know he's in oatmeal, since it's noted on the sticker- the photo below of my slaney is actually in alpine white, it's just become a similar oatmealy color due to age), as well as in the crowd shot during Roger’s presentation, with someone else with the same head.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
karen
3D model that is primarily based on a Canon Pixma ts202 (thanks to Smooth in phonecord for that ID!), but has significant differences in shape and color. She’s one of a kind!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
randy
Nokia 3410, which came in a couple colors (the Randy aqua we know, silver, and rarely red).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
bigfoot
A disposable camera without its outer plastic shell or paper labeling, this Renault one or something similar (maybe different branding? I swear dog mentioned he got bigfoot’s camera at a zoo.). Smooth on the discord found this one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
norm
norm's head is made of meat. here's his hat (which he wears backwards in his sprites). (i never wrote down who found this one and i can't re-find it in phonecord search, sorry. like a 90% chance it was germa)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mingus
Salvage the cat. Salvage the cat is a very unique model of cat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
roger
FeTAp 791-1, in orange (apparently hueshifted- in real life he’s red, but there ARE orange versions of this model, they’re just harder to find than some other colors). This model came in a bunch of colors- please enjoy this one that looks like it’s made of meat and gristle. Far as I can tell, these were mostly German, but also popped up fairly frequently in the Soviet Union. Mine is an Argentinean release of the same model.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
peter
Western Electric Model 500, the most widely-produced rotary phone in history, in red. Note also that Peter has no lettering or numbering on his head, which is edited (it’s not possible to sand off a 500’s numbering because it’s actually filled-in plastic vice paint on top). Due to the color & clear plastic wheel, Peter’s model is from 1956 or later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
god
Emerson 11P50. Here’s the specific stock images that his sprites are of, too. byrdffv on phonecord.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jerry
Bell JO-4 or JN-4, same make, different color. Jerry is the same solid color all-around. I’d assumed he had to be custom-painted- I haven’t seen a single Jerry or almost-Jerry that’s the same solid color he is on the internet besides his OG stock photo (since, as you can see on mine, the metal and plastic parts are always different colors), but it’s not a well-documented series of models, and according to Dogman he’s seen ones like him IRL. Here’s the stock images used for Jerry. See also, his wheelchair, a LAWC001 (that one’s credit to Germa).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mr. dickens
K6 Telephone box. Not much more to say, there aren’t a massive amount of red UK telephone box models.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and with that, i've reached the 30-image limit per post. i'll continue this in a reblog, or you can view the rest of them at the google doc i've set up here!

Please Reblog, I'd like to design a cheap braille typewriter (prototyping by 3d printing, final design will be machined) I stumbled upon linked YouTube short and a thought: "designing 6/8 button typewriter is within my technical capabilities"
youtube
I have many design questions I wish I could test out
My roadblock is I don't know anyone who's visually impaired, and casually seeking random place to peddle my soon-to-be-invention is not something I'm capable of
Many design questions:
Paper type: what is minimal quality/density of paper for dots to be readable. Can thermal receipt paper be used for notes?
Embossed vs punched out: is that significant for the typewriter to not break paper? It's important for "undo", but that's pretty far in my building a typewriter plan
Typewriter size: My initial idea was something like a portable cash register with receipt paper spool and little tray for it to glide along (I quickly realized it's a bad design because it can't fit more than 7 characters, or I can make infinite scroll of a single line with questionable ergonomics). Ultimately is related to page size, so what would be best for it? A4 standard paper? Is being portable important?
Keyboard layout: Perkins Brallier have all it's buttons inline forming long row. Wouldn't single-hand keyboard in similar layout as braille dots be more convenient? (straight grid or mimicking angle of computer keyboard letters)
Typing feedback: should typed letter be instantly accessible and not obstructed by typewriter? Maybe typing with one hand and instantly proof-reading with another hand?
Typewriter or printer?: alternatively, I can make a little annoying-noise-making servo-powered printer that will punch out text. Arduino or Raspberry PI based (I have experience with both) It would be USB powered most benevolent printer, because it don't require ink to work
Thanks for reading! [I'm not transcribing my design scribble, because it's absolute dogshit, but it helped me formula requirements. I will add transcription to actually thought of designs]
Alternatively, if I'm tweaking right now and if that thing would be needed it would already exist, I'll go back to trying to get hired by random megacorp and that's the last time you hear of me talking about it 💀

applied fork theory:
So a constant, irritating drain on my energy has been an artifact of parenting my last baby, who is now 13 years old. That is, my bed was very close to the wall of our bedroom, moved out a little at one point (it was against the wall when he was tiny and cosleeping, to prevent falling off, but moved out later) and the dresser was at the foot of the bed, in order to make room for a couch in the room that is no longer in the room and hasn't been for ehhh 5 years?
So in order to get out of bed, I would have to scootch and climb across our memory foam mattress in order to get to the foot of the bed to get dressed and then work my way around The Stuff in order to get out of the bedroom.
I knew this was draining, but I didn't realize HOW draining.
One of hubby's presents to me was 20 hours of deep cleaning from a professional, and she brought a friend to use 7 of those hours (3 1/2 actual hours, but two people) to deep clean the room and then move the furniture around. Now my side of the bed is right next to the door, the dressers are to the SIDE of the bed which makes the whole room easier to navigate, and there's enough room for hubby to easily walk around the bed to get to his side of the bed. I can just... get out of bed?
I don't have to scootch? Or climb? Or roll across the entire width?
And suddenly I'm able to focus on other areas of the house.
I asked for hooks for hanging things by the front door for christmas, and my dad and my eldest put them up over the weekend, and I was like, "I have enough energy to get the coats up there" and suddenly the coats were off the Horrible Heap on the floor and I could see all the reusable grocery bags so I had someone take those out to the car and then we could see The Place Where Shoes Go To Die.
And I made everyone in the house put all the ones they weren't using anymore in a bag, and we found a shoe organizer in The Horrible Heap place, and now all the shoes are organized and there is no horrible heap anymore.
And then I looked at the dining room and one step at a time and asking people for help as needed, we got all the junk distributed and the tables clear and the 3d printer set up.
So over the course of about a week and a half, the house is suddenly much more livable and is not sucking so much of my energy. I'm still spending most of my time lying down, ME/CFS is not cured by a clean bedroom, but this morning I woke up after something like 10-12 hours of sleep (in a couple chunks, but still) and got dressed and went downstairs and got my breakfast and still had enough energy to make the kitchen less overwhelming and more usable. Not to actually do the dishes, but to make the dishes stacked, soaked where need be and not spread over every available surface of the kitchen, such that when someone more able than me goes in they will start with a mostly empty sink and some space to work.
Anyway, the point of all of this is that sometimes judicious application of help can have ripple effects through most of your life. Think about the things in your life that are making it harder than it has to be. Are they fixable? Is there someone who can help you with something highly specific? Maybe one of those people who said, "If you ever need anything, let me know..."

Have you ever experimented with dolls if smaller sizes? Or different types of joints? And have you thought of doing any other types of toys? Still character pieces I mean, like sofubi or miniature figures? Btw this isnt a request I just love toys and wanna hear your thoughts on other styles
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smaller yes, these little guys are the smallest I can get without it being too difficult - I think they were about 5 inches? Anything under 6 gets really tricky
Other types of joints? No thanks. If I hand sculpted BJDs nobody would want to buy em at the price I'd have to charge. Maybe if I had a 3D printer, but I ain't got that kind of money.
Other types of "toys," sure, I've done some plush work from time to time
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And occasionally make static sculptures
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But making static full body figures is a bit difficult for me, and I'm never sure if they'd actually sell, so I stick with dolls as to not waste time. Maybe in the future, you can see here I use sculpture stuff as a chance to be a bit more experimental, which I have much more fun with, but people prefer cuter dolls, so I go with the demand.
I will say that if I got a resin 3D printer it would change my LIFE, but that'll be a hot minute, if ever

Hey chat! I decided that I don't care if you care or not, I'll post it anyway. Because I'm a scientist nerd, and a TF2 fan.
So here you go, my theory on how the respawn machine actually works.
⚠️It'll be a lot of reading and you need half of a braincell to understand it.
The Respawn Machine can recreate a body within minutes, complete with all previous memories and personality, as if the person never died. We all know this, but I doubt many have thought about how it actually works.
Of course, such a thing is impossible in real life (at least for now), but we’re talking about a game where there’s magic and mutant bread, so it’s all good.
But being an autistic dork, I couldn’t help but start searching for logical and scientific explanations for how this machine might work. How the hell does it actually function? So, I spent hours of my life on yet another useless big brain time.
In the context of the Respawn Machine, the idea is that the technology can instantly create a new mercenary body, identical to the original. This body must be ready for use immediately after the previous one’s death. To achieve this, the cloning process, which in real life takes months or even years, would need to be significantly accelerated. This means the machine is probably powered by a freaking nuclear reactor, or maybe even Australium.
My theory is that this machine is essentially a massive 3D printer capable of printing biological tissues. But how? You see, even today, people can (or are trying to) recreate creatures that lived millions of years ago using DNA. By using the mercenary’s DNA, which was previously loaded into the system, the machine could recreate a perfect copy.
However, this method likely wouldn’t be able to perfectly recreate the exact personality and all the memories from the previous body. I believe the answer lies in neuroscience.
For the Respawn Machine to restore the mercenary’s consciousness and memories, it would need to be capable of recording and preserving the complete structure of the brain, including all neural connections, synapses, and activity that encode personality and memory. This process is known as brain mapping. After creating a brain map, this data could be stored digitally and then transferred to the new body.
“Okay, but how would you transfer memories that are dated right up until the moment of death? The mercenaries clearly remember everything about their previous death.”
Well, I have a theory about that too!
Neural interfaces! Inside each mercenary’s head could be an implant (a nanodevice) that reads brain activity before death and updates a digital copy of the memories. This system operates at the synaptic level, recording changes in the structure of neurons that occur as memories are formed. After death, this data could be instantly transferred to the new body via a quantum network.
Once the data is uploaded and the brain is synchronized with the new body, the mercenary’s consciousness "awakens." Ideally, the mercenary wouldn’t notice any break in consciousness and would remember everything that happened right up to the moment of death.
However… there are also questions regarding potential negative consequences.
Can the transfer of consciousness really preserve all aspects of personality, or is something inevitably lost in the process?
Unfortunately, nothing is perfect, and there’s a chance that some small memories might be lost—like those buried in the subconscious. Or the person’s personality might become distorted. Maybe that’s why they’re all crazy?
How far does the implant’s range extend? Does the distance between the mercenary and the machine affect the accuracy of data transfer?
My theory is that yes, it does. The greater the distance, the fewer memories are retained.
Could there be deviations in the creation of the body itself?
Yes, there could be. We saw this in "Emesis Blue," which led to a complete disaster. But let’s assume everything is fine, and the only deviations are at most an extra finger (or organ—not critical, Medic would only be happy about that).
Well, these are just my theories and nothing more. I’m not a scientist; I’m an amateur enthusiast with a lot of time on my hands. My theories have many holes that I can’t yet fill due to a lack of information.

🩷💚 Custom Fizzy Takara Doll 💚🩷
Created using the 3d model made by Otteroflore!
Wip description and pics below the cut ^^
So I am a COMPLETE AND TOTAL NOOB when it comes to technology. and I made a lot of mistakes trying to print this Fizzy due to my own incompetence and also everyone online assuming you already kinda know something about 3d printing if you own a printer. We recieved a 3d printer as a gift and I knew Nothing about it so I reallly struggled trying to figure it out. Also my computer is ancient and had to download a like 5 year old out of date version of a 3d printing program (cura) to even get it to work. took an entire week and several failed tries T-T
Tumblr media
FINALLY we got an attempt that was salvageable! And had to rip out all of the support beams from it. But even then there were some major mistakes:
It did not print hollow. Nobody online explained that if you want it to be hollow it wasn’t enough that the model itself had hollow parts, you have to turn off a hole setting in cura and mess with the infill or something
For some reason the bodies were Very Fucked Up? The middle and sides printed Weirdly to where, once the supports were all removed, They had no sides/shoulders. Wuh oh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way I combatted this was by taking extra filament plastic and a soldering iron gun to weald it on and do literal plastic surgery.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(A before and after) it looks like complete ass and is a little janky but. please be kind to her it was a major operation 😭😭😭
Then sanded things down a bit more. I know people say to sand it down until you can’t see the lines anymore but im an impatient motherfucker and only had a little bit of sandpaper so :P
Then it was painting time! Used my own fizzy to color match, painted her green with a white nose and a milkshake cutiemark. I also glued stick on gems into her eye sockets
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then the hairing! Used a sewing needle heated up with a lighter to easily poke holes into her skull! The lovely user minticat on Mlptp provided great reference images of what a takara’s hair length and hair holes look like, so I did my best to mimic that
Tumblr media
Her hair is the closest color matches for fizzy that Shimmerlocks had: Cotton Candy pink, Angel white, Heart Throb 2.0 pink and Gusty green. Now the head isnt actually all that hollow (I hollowed it out best I could with my soldering iron but still not the best) so I couldn’t use the usual hairing method where you punch the hair in and then glue it from inside. I realized I needed to attach glue to the hair itself and then get it into the holes.
At first I was too much of a scardey cat to use my actual hairing needle in fear it would break on the plastic, so I tried a very infuriating method of putting glue on hair strands and painstakingly trying to push them into the holes with a pin. This was awful. I quickly gave up, braved up and grabbed my rehairing needle. Punched the hair in after applying glue to the hair, and it worked out surprisingly well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All that was left was to 1) String the doll using elastic bands to tie the legs and arms into place but still make sure they were moveable. 2) GENTLY trim, wash and style the hair (using buggys special method of getting tiny curly curls. 3) Figure out the head
I originally wanted to make a neckplug for her out of clay as you see here but it didnt work too well. The plastic of the doll is much harder than the clay and it kept breaking after trying to put the head on. So I accepted I would have to glue the head on in place (It cant turn, unlike the arms and legs 😔) You can also see i used some clay to patch up a crack in the plastic that formed (which I had to paint over again)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FINAL STEP was making the dress!!! I forgot to take ANY pictures of that ùwú Not that pictures would be useful to you guys as I kinds fuckin winged it and made up a pattern as I went. I think its adorable, but in the future I would make it a little bigger (the back doesnt fit quite right). Maybe if theres interest I’ll fix up the pattern so its better and share another doll dress tutorial with the class? 😳 sound off in the comments below haha

actually,,i have many thoughts in considering making a custom ganondorf doll. I have this old ww ganondorf toy that I have already modified before, I pretty much altered his face (my twt followers did not agree w me using full on acrylics for his face but oh well). but the idea of maybe going a little further and make him fully poseable has been resting in the back of my mind for a very long time. So I made a blueprint(?) of how I would possibly make this work. also maybe making him alternative accessories like different facial expressions and different hand poses.
tbh tho! I am also sharing this in hopes that others can possibly do this! maybe not needing the ganondorf toy as a base but just making it from scratch (even easier if you have a 3d printer)
