Hi lovely anon 💕 I'm so sorry if the wait has been longer than what I promised, but I wasn't actually that confident in how things turned out for this drabble, so if you wished for something different, maybe with them older or in a more romantic setting, just let me know!

James wasn't sure he liked the theme of the play, nor he felt particularly comfortable with the role the teachers had assigned him, but he would’ve been a fool if he had objected to a good excuse to spend even more time with Lily, who played the main character, served on a silver plate, so he shut up, put on the disproportionate tall hat and diligently studied his lines. Petunia, who was in her senior year before starting middle school, hadn’t seem very happy about how the parts had been distributed either, but hers wasn’t a matter of shame or shyness, she was just envious. Ironically, James thought her character suited her personality perfectly, with that innate arrogange and sudden mood swings, but he would've never expressed such bad things out loud. After all, she was his best friend’s sister. Anyway, between bouts of crying, readjustments to the script and costume fittings, the big day had arrived and every parent, older sibling, grandparent and even some neighbours were gathered in the auditorium, sitting on creaking chairs, waiting for the curtain to open and for the Miller Primary School’s end-of-year play to begin. In the chaos behind the scene, James found Lily at the very last moment, a couple minutes before she was pushed toward the stage. He hadn’t seen her in full costume yet, and the blonde wig looked strange on her feature, not to mention the gauzy blue dress on her lanky body, but one thing was still the same.

“Lils?” he called, perhaps too loud.

She seemed tense, probably afraid to mess up when all eyes were on her, but any insecurity vanished when she turned towards him.

“Yes, Jamie?”

“Were your eyes always this beautiful?” he asked, unable to stop himself from uttering such silly words.

A violent red blush spread on her round cheeks, and a timid smile lifted the corners of her mouth.

“You are the first person to say so besides mum and dad,” she admitted.

“Does your sister not like them?” he wondered, perplexed.

Lily shook her head.

“She thinks they’re ugly,” she finally replied, after a brief, embarrassed silence.

“I’m afraid the doctor isn’t going to prescribe her only braces the next time she visits: it seems like she needs glasses too, and strong ones,” he joked, but  the time for parting had come, and before he could wish her good luck, she turned her back and fully immersed in her airheaded character.

it's a freeing thing, being spiderman. super strength, speed healing, enhanced awareness, taking your fears and shoving them out the window, downdowndown from up on high.

give a man a mask, yk? spiderman's sarcasm and light, quick wit pours thoughtlessly from his lips, evasiveness n fight like a buried memory-- confidence in his bones; one second miles is stammering over his sketchbook (edge to edge with his muse, page after page) n the next spiderman's mask is pulled on n he's high in the sky, whoops and cheers alongside his muse's full, deep laughter, dancing through the air, around each other, to the top of the nearest high rise.

spiderman's muse (in other worlds, they're called lovers, but miles- spiderman- the gwen he knows is from another universe n he wasn't "supposed" to be bit at all, so he'll take muse, he'll take best friend) joins him at the top of a spire, base plate barely big enough to hold their shoes n the wind whipping around them, neither of them feeling the chill (it comes with the second skin, with the uniform and the abilities-- it's learning to make your suit warmer)

they've taken the arm closest and draped it over his shoulder like usual, miles wrapping his own across their back, hand squeezing them closer, settled at their hip, a mere look at each other before they're free falling backwards, still clinging to one another, other hand out, air between fingers and mouths pulled taut into wide, toothy smiles. then miles is nudging their shoulder, hand poised for rock-paper-scissors, which they return in kind (oh, miles can almost see the smirk beyond the mask, knowing full well none of those three options will be used by his opponent), miles making a rock with his fist, a peace sign made in response. "peace over war, love," then they're webbed to another building, swinging into the bottom of their curve in the direction of downtown, for whatever spot the other spider feels like eating at, and on and on the night will run, swinging up, down, around n around, across alleys and the sides of buildings, through crowds n noise but always focused on each other, leading then following, following and leading in turns, twisting, spinning, leaping, falling, catching and climbing, over n over until the duo is on the roof of miles' dorm at 5 am, sitting shoulder to shoulder on the edge, masks off- sipping from two different cups n switching every so often, calm n quiet; existing with each other, spider n spider, miles n hobie.

(miles doesn't need his mask when he's with hobie; freedom is easier to reach, with them)

I get using no specific iteration of the TMNT in a crossover and just making yet another new version. After all, the franchise has had many, many different versions at this point, so it's easy to accept that this is simply one more to add to the pile.

But Naruto has... one. Just the one. So when all of a sudden characters are written/shown to have expertise that they shouldn't have at the age they're being depicted, it just ends up feeling weird.

I get that fitting things into the Naruto timeline can be a chore. Do it too early, and Sakura is kinda useless. Do it too late, and Sasuke's off murdering people. And if you try to set it after the series, the power levels are seriously gonna be out of whack.

But breaking the only canon that has ever existed for these characters makes them feel like... not the same characters. I might be the only one who cares about this, but it really took me out of the story, to the point where I couldn't help but focus on it. I don't want to be distracted from page one of a silly ninja crossover comic.

Perhaps surprisingly, Ghost is actually quite merciful in a fight!

In general, they're a lot more reactive than they are proactive.

They do always give it their all in battle, and I suppose in that sense they could be considered rather ruthless. They'll never "go easy" on an opponent, since they don't actually know how to. They've never been in a situation before where doing such a thing would be relevant or useful. Everything they've fought during their life has either been Infected, a lesser creature that they're hunting for SOUL, or a highly skilled warrior that warrants them using their full capabilities. If someone asked Ghost to go easy on them in a spar, they'd probably just be confused about what that even meant?

The closest thing they've experienced to "going easy" on someone is simply not wasting unnecessary resources on a weak opponent. For example, if a lone, regular Vengefly has decided to harass them, Ghost isn't going to bother expending their gathered SOUL and Void with a spell when it'll fall in one hit from their nail.

Though, they are also cautious about how Void affects non-Void beings when they're around someone they care about not killing. Hornet has probably drilled it into them enough that the substance their body is made of is extremely dangerous to regular bugs dgshshfs. Plus they've seen examples of what Void can do to a bug from sources other than themself. Fortunately though, their Void infused spells (Abyss Shriek, Shade Soul, Descending Dark) are generally still safe enough to use in spars!

But, whether they fight and how long the fight lasts actually depends entirely on the other person. Ghost doesn't typically make the first strike or initiate a battle, and in cases where they do (such as the Mantis Lords fight), they make their intentions very clear with a challenge first. They aren't one for sneak attacks.

If someone attacks them, then they will fight back with all their might. But, if their opponent stops fighting, then they will too.

Against Infected foes, this usually means a fight to the death anyway, since due to the Radiance's influence, the enemy will not stop trying to kill Ghost until they either succeed or die trying. But against uninfected opponents like Hornet and the Mantis Lords, they can surrender, retreat, or even talk to Ghost safely without Ghost trying to go in for the kill. Even if that opponent was intending to kill Ghost themself. And for Infected and uninfected opponents alike, if they stagger, then Ghost will stop and wait for them, just to see if the fight is done or not.

If their opponent insists on fighting, though, then Ghost will never retreat themself, no matter how badly they get hurt. They'll keep fighting until their mask breaks, and even beyond that once they have Void Heart and can survive without it. Even in simple sparring matches. Self-preservation... Is not their strong suit dhdhshf.

This also means that my Ghost would not have killed the non-aggressive Infected enemies under most circumstances. In particular, they definitely never killed the other maggots (False Knight's siblings). Not only were those guys non-aggressive; they were sapient, terrified of Ghost, did not want to fight and very clearly showed this by actively running away. Ghost did not kill them. There was no reason to. Hell, I always feel really bad killing them for the Hunter's Journal entries lmao.

Regarding the Hunter's Journal entries, actually, for the enemies that they wouldn't have killed many of (if any at all), and perhaps even just in general, I'm inclined to say that Ghost still has the entries written down, but did so after just observing the specimens rather than killing them? Plus maybe also by inspecting the bodies of already dead creatures, like how you get the Garpede entry.

At least the initial entries anyway, which I like to think were actually written by Ghost. They probably don't have any of the "second tier" entries physically in the journal, considering that some of them (e.g. The direct quotes from the Warrior Dreams) make no sense for Ghost to know. But for the ones written specifically by the Hunter, maybe Ghost would pop by to show him their journal from time to time, and that's when he'd give them his input on Hallownest's creatures?
