(1st off, i am a trans man) personally, it makes me slightly uncomfortable when other trans men center their own experiences. don’t get me wrong, we have a right to talk about our issues, but i can’t help but feel like there’s a victim complex going on when some guys say that TERFs are “just as dangerous” to trans men or that baeddelism is a relevant issue (while brushing the misogyny and toxic masculinity in the ftm community under the rug). the fact that you made a post about trans unity and the first ask you got was about how trans men aren’t supported enough by trans women? but like, is that true? is it not ALSO an issue that trans women aren’t supported enough by trans men?

Okay, I hear you, and I acknowledge that I (unfortunately) have fairly limited experience with trans men but I don't know if I like the idea of discounting what they have to say as "a victim complex."

They just want to be heard. And I think they have a right to be upset, given how little representation trans men are given in media. I never saw any discussions on transmasc issues until I came to Tumblr. Never saw it on YouTube or Reddit. Online leftist circles--and even online trans circles!--don't talk about trans men! So, y'know what? If they're being a little melodramatic about their issues, maybe it'll off-set the lack of any knowledge of their issues in the first place.

And also, I think toxic masculinity and misogyny are sort of part of being a man, right now? Which certainly isn't to say it's inherent to men, but society does encourage it. That's what I think should change about being a man. This goes back to societal misandry, I think. Toxic Masculinity is just a manifestation of societal forces that encourage men to behave in unhuman ways, and I think it would be immature of me to expect trans men to perfectly avoid that, in their pursuit of masculinity.

Gender is a performance. We are all looking for the role that makes us most comfortable, but the baggage attached to the roles isn't something you can side-step so easily. Cis people have an advantage on this front, in that they are capable of proving their masculinity or femininity via means other than pure performance. Society *expects* them to be men or women and that means they can gesticulate towards genitalia whenever they're called into question. (They don't always do that, and it's sort of transphobic when they do, but the ones who are comfortable with themselves might say something like that, all the same)

A trans man will uphold toxic masculinity the same way that a trans woman will submit herself to misogyny: it is in pursuit of the perfect encapsulation of the role. Unless we feel like we adequately perform the role inherently, we are inclined to tolerate--and ergo embody, to an extent--the negativity present in the roles we desire.

I believe that lowering the standards for who can be seen as valid in masculinity will alleviate quite a bit of misogyny, whether that misogyny be among transmascs or cis men. So, in saying that, I hope I also illustrate why I'm quick to jump to their defense while also tacking on my ideas about societal misandry and its toll on men.

On the subject of whether or not transfems actually don't support transmascs...I guess I wouldn't really know. I'm not in trans communities because I don't live in a place where that kind of community could show up. I imagine this problem is being blown out of proportion a little bit, but the ask I think you're talking about did say that it was sort of a Tumblr thing? And internet discourse is just...fuckin...so unbelievably shitty. So I'm not too worried about it.

ok listen up, i read today that a judge is set to rule on whether or not trump convictions should stand or if they fall under presidential immunity. lets break this down.

the supreme court did pass down a ruling basically granting any sitting president or former immunity from prosecution of crimes as long as the charges stem from official acts as president. that being said if a president kills 34 people by bombing a building and proves the action was imperative to the safety of the nation, then that will get a pass. the charges in question involve covering up the payments made to a porn star he slept with before running. she was paid 130,000 dollars in october 2016 to stay quiet. ( come at me about her squealing i dare you) election day is the first tuesday of the month of november. so even the math says that this can not be considered an official act as president. because he wasnt even president when she was paid off. even if the falsifying of the business records shows that happened after the election that still lands under the umbrella of unofficial or private acts. it also shows his desperation to hide what he had done in an attempt to persuade the party he represented that he held to their beliefs. i understand that you dont want a president to be scared to make a choice that might have a an impact on the safety of the country. that he or she may be scared to act or face prosecution and how this ruling basically makes a sitting president above the law. but using this case as the spring board for how this ruling is launched is a bad idea. mainly because it is and was not an official act as president and can not be considered that legally. the 34 felony convictions must stand if we are to continue to show no one is above the law.

Quiet on Set triggered the 90s kid in me and affected me in ways I didnt think were possible. To think that the shows that I loved as a kid and even as an adult, were not at all what they seemed. The actors that I grew up watching perform "hilarious" skits was far more than just some comedy sketch. We got attacked in a discord server for systems for opening a blog aimed more towards the screwed up and icky parts of being a system (Like the more triggering, dark, horrifying stuff and having your mind twisted by the trauma and alters twisted by it too). We phrased a few things wrong and accidentally used a word we shouldn't have (We've seen it used so many times and grew up on content using the word 24/7 so it wasnt out of malicious intent, we genuinely just didn't know.) and everybody seemed to be arguing and yelling at us. We got kicked.. which sucks. We barely did anything wrong and people got mad. Of course there were somethings we DID do wrong but i feel they could of been more productive with talking to us about it and our intentions..

Sometimes i feel like the darker and more horrifying parts of being a system are urged by the community to be swept away. Even parts of it that say "trauma isnt cutesy or fun! its horrible!" seem to only want the "better" parts of it or the parts that are only now finally starting to get accept.

Yeah, that's very fair. I think that in general it's best to talk to the person if its the first time they've done something and seem genuinely remorseful. I think smth that bothers me about this natlan thing [read the comments on some short now I'm cursed] is that an argument is that people are only getting upset about the skin color part of cultural rep which to them reads as shallow but the thing is, people did get upset at everything else in sumeru and natlan like even before the characters got revealed people got mad that hyv was hodge podging several cultures into one fictional culture for those two nations but at most the other nations took inspo from like, two or three, and people got upset about the really poor interpretation of cultural clothing, and they got upset about real life names getting tacked onto white characters. Just is that now w skin color being a debate point, they can use a loud minority of "pale skinned people from these cultures exist too" to support their point

ive seen people actually be upset about more than skin color with natlan & sumeru but it's apparently just much easier to vilify people over wanting dark skinned characters vs wanting characters to be dressed appropriately or wanting characters to not take names from real life figures

Like even outside these two nations ive seen people get upset over more than just skin color but as long as u can slap on the excuse of "other people think it's fine" or something similar, then it gets swept under the rug [like it's been years and i still think raiden & miko have some of the worst designs in inazuma just because visual appeal was overprioritized, but its impossible to critique how inappropriate/disrespectful it was for genshin to effectively sexualize traditional japanese outfits without getting shredded to pieces if u post ur thoughts in the wrong circle]

[most] people who are criticizing genshin have their issues run much deeper than simply, i want a character with dark skin. real life cultures are incorporated in many different ways in genshin, but character designs in genshin hugely draw on clothing, names, and skin color [for the very few characters who don't get sentenced to #FFFFFF]. thing is tho, even with all the real life inspiration to draw on, the design team still majorly drops the ball.

nahida's white on white on white is a crime against character design, tighnari's palette made me consider dropping art forever so i never have to even attempt to color pick the seven million colors in his splash art, several natlan characters are walking talking fashion crimes who have a severe lack of overall cohesion, dori

people very much did drag character designs apart from their skin colors, and they were justified since the design team seemed very pick and choose when it came to deciding who gets the good design and who gets the not so good one

My point is, there have been people who've had issues with genshin's inclusion/depictions of real life cultures since the beginning and it's been more than just disliking pale skinned characters being the majority in regions that would have more than the two skin tones included in game [white and off white], and anyone worth their salt in this discussion about genshins colorism and appropriation understands that skin color isn't just something to toss into the ring willy nilly to stir debate cuz if you wanna have an actual discussion u gotta know what ur gonna be talking about
