I'm writing a paper on Goncharov right now and I can sooth your nerves that the difference between Gonch and whatever's happening on tiktok is not the fake media. Fake media and fake people and fake history will always and has always existed. Neither is the collective storytelling.
The difference is that we made Goncharov real by imitating a fandom for it. Like yes mass hallucinating a movie was fun and an incredible feat of collective creativity. But the *way* we created Goncharov is what will always make it special.
We, as a website, spontaneously created a perfect pastiche of fandom, one that was so identical to any other fandom behaviour it made the movie seem real.
As I quote thetwistyoucantresist in my paper, “maybe the real Goncharov was the Fandom we made along the way”.
Goncharov isnt the fake movie its the fake fandom, that's what special and unique and one of a kind

Also here is an interview snippet which I thought was interesting. I've never thought much about what his creative process might have been like. Also, I didn't realise that the panels he drew on were so much larger than what ended up in print. I mean, it makes sense, but I guess I always just assumed he drew up the squares exactly the way they looked in the end.

i’m genuinely of the belief that the megamind sequel/tv show was meant to premiere on nickelodeon in like 2011 alongside their other spinoff shows, but then got shelved after the movie flopped financially and has been sitting around in some archive gathering dust until peacock decided to release it as “new content.”
like, can we just look at the visual evidence alone?

he fits right in with this lineup. peacock, i’m onto you

Do some of these fans not realize how hilariously foolish they look?
They’re mad that we’re having fun with our little invisible string theory. Saying it doesn’t make any sense but like y’all are the same people who were counting refrigerator magnets and now have a lasagna theory? Like we are all just trying to have fun. It’s a show. It’s not that deep.
But then they claim they don’t care, but you cared enough to sit there and reply to a post that had nothing to do with you. They sure do act pretty bothered about a couple they claim they’re not worried about. If you’re so sure they’re going to end, why waste your time arguing with their fans?

hmmmmmmm okay. I'll think about the last episode a bit more. I currently don't how I feel about what happened. it's. hmmm. unsurprisingly, more questions raised than answered
also, the timelines man. they're fucking up the timelines. I have to rethink how this ties to S1/S2 because way too many details don't line up. but I'm gonna guess now that we're not in S1/S2 timeline anymore, actually. we're in the timeline that was created after lu guang's S2 dive in the finale.
so is yingdu actually post-S1/S2? I'll try to logic this out in the weekend probably
I will say that I am very intrigued by wang qing's role in all of this and I'm glad she exists. link click doesn't always have a good track record with female characters but when they don't kill them off they are intriguing in their own right (qiao ling, wang qing, and even xu shanshan I really enjoyed. noodle soup ladies and anime con girl as well).

I feel like Metal Sonic fans fall into two camps
Camp A - fans who believe Metal Sonic should have a chance to grow and become his own person completely separate from Sonic, and forge an identity all his own!!
Camp B - fans who believe Metal Sonic when he says he IS Sonic and think he should get the chance to prove himself RIGHT and prove everyone who doubted him or called him a copy DEAD WRONG (i’m Camp B)
Either way we can all agree Metal Sonic is trans as hell 🏳️‍⚧️🤝🏳️‍⚧️

Jumping off from this post about Adar's fighting with Elrond at the end of s2e7, because I had some exchanges in the replies about Adar's sword and wanted to elaborate:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(picture credit: Middle-Earth Weapons for a New Age forming deadly characters, a great article that has some interesting bits about Adar's sword too - also notice the 'wavy' handle in the left pic for example!)
Sadly, we see don't see Adar use his sword very much in the series - even him stabbing Arondir is not explicitly shown. It would have been so cool to see him use it in battle. First of all to see the skill with the blade he has built up over the centuries, and how he wields such a big weapon, but also in contrast to Sauron.
Sauron gets the sword at the end of episode 8 - he immediately fights with it, seems to wield/master it easily, and uses it very successfully in his battle against Galadriel. He even uses the sword in combination with Morgoth's crown!
Questions I am asking myself:
Would Adar have looked like he needed effort to swing that sword? Would he have been slow/heavy with it but very powerful, or graceful and quick like Sauron? What kind of fighting style would he have favored, how would it have compared to Sauron’s? Would there have been similarities or differences in their styles (practical vs graceful)? What could those have told us sth about their shared past (one seeing the other train/being trained, did the sword once belong to Sauron or was it always Adar's)?
This would have not only been very cool to look at, but - as I mentioned in the replies to the other post - help in character building; it would say a lot about their respective physical strength if Adar had a harder time swinging it than Sauron for example, or if Adar used very precise, practical movements to show it is all about survival for him vs Sauron 'playing with his food'.
I felt it aspect was sadly underused in that regard – I am not even sure the sword has a name atm. (I suppose, in a sense, it's fitting when compared to its owner - we as viewers never find out Adar's original name either, so the owner of the sword and the blade itself being 'nameless' kinda makes sense?) (It is still kinda feels unsatisfying though.)
I only hope we find out more about the sword, even if it will feel like a mockery when Sauron keeps and uses it, but I’d love it if the series dove into its history, name, and origins more.
(thx guys for encouraging me to post this and the talks in the replies of the other post btw <3)

Sometimes dpxdc fics make Jason a half ghost, his ghost form usually being his robin self with inverted colors. Inverted some of my art to help visualize this for me
Play your cards right and that's a trans flag right there, further proof that all half ghosts are trans /silly
But also, we can get way more intentional with this, and make both versions of the outfit more cohesive

I just had a thought triggered by this amazing artwork by @honeymilkbubbletea that features Jinx's pink eyes.
Is pink the symbolic colour of strength in Arcane's sister dynamic here? Or just Vi?
We see Young Vi with her bright pink hair as the stronger, responsible, dutiful older sister, then we see clips of her in the s2 trailers with black hair, looking physically strong but emotionally and personally ruined. The pink is hidden while she lays low/changes her identity/becomes someone else or whatever she is doing. Also in s1 she wore a hood when unhappy or stealthing, both when young and old. The removal of the bright pink making us focus more on her expression and darkened mood. A glimpse of her deeper inner experience, who she is underneath the bravado, perceived responsibility and identifiable signature pink hair.
Tumblr media
In contrast, we see s2 Jinx with pink eyes as the empowered sibling now. Even before the end of s1 or s2 a lot of her artwork incorporates pink, she paints pink on her nails, infusing herself with power.
Tumblr media
So looking at this s2 trailer image below of Jinx in the shark hoodie, with purple, I feel it implies she is finally trying to find a balance between these two extremes. Rather than trying to emulate her sisters strength she is finding a balance and stepping more into her own power, creating something new and evolved, a more powerful fusion of both of them.
Tumblr media
And finally I gotta bring up this contrast in the s1 and s2 poster design below which I loooooove. The brightness of Jinxes eyes draws our eyes up past vi's hair, Jinx is holding Vi, the duality and symmetry of pink and blue, as well as their emotions, actions and values in this series is so well constructed it is phenomenal. I can not wait to see how it will evolve through season 2.

Avantris Comic Scripts #2
Often when I get ideas for comics, I break my panels into scripts first. These are less prose-y than fics but still contain dialogue and basic interactions. You seem to have enjoyed my first one, so have a few more, this one featuring my initial thoughts on "Gorebek"
Confrontation with 'the Duke' (spoilers up to ep: 56!) [A script I wrote to explore my personal headcanon about Torbek's situation; I think this would be a delightful twist that suits what Nikki and Andy might be plotting for us. Please be sure you are caught up to episode 56 to avoid any spoilers! These ideas are not confirmed just my personal favorite take~] * * * * [After another grueling battle, 'The Duke' has made himself known by taking control of Torbek's body once again. Dripping with the blood of his latest conquest, the party stands at odds with the most sane and yet somehow scariest version of their friend yet. This time, the Witchlighted to hell and back bugbear has no interest in further bloodshed and seems more inclined to take his leave. Weapons drawn, Carnivale Lecroux debate whether to fight or allow this unexpected threat to flee, knowing they could risk losing Torbek too.]
Kremy: "You're outnumbered so KINDLY get the hell out of Torbek already!" Gideon: "Ya can't just show up after somebody's been experimented on and claim that bodies your own!" "Not my own?" The Duke pauses, considering something while facing away. "Let me get this straight. Your friend. Who speaks in grunts and the third person. Can barely write his name. And you think he's the original personality?"
A hush falls over the crowd Gricko: "… In hindsight…" Frost: "…it does make a disturbing amount of sense.."
'The Duke' smirks and misty steps closer to Kremy, taunting the lizardfolk. 'The Duke': "You never could remember me, could you?" Kremy: "Now that's not true, the herri--" 'The Duke': "You just believed whatever it was I told you, it was easy enough to picture." The Alligator squints, fae magic clouding his mind. Something about what this not-Torbek is saying does make an insidious amount of sense. He grits his teeth, unable to find the lie. Kremy: "… Think I'm beginning to remember why I didn't like remembering you."
Gideon is not falling for it and he's even more incensed after seeing someone make Kremy of all people unsure about something.
Gideon: "So what. This is just 'YOU' now? You're just gonna leave and take Torbek along, just like that? He's not coming back this time?" 'The Duke' steps back again, testing how far he can push his retreat without being suspect. He stretches his arms in a gloating manner. 'The Duke': "I assure you, I have lived more in this body than 'HE' has ever forgotten." The Duke smiles cruelly, all teeth, eerily wide and full of malice. 'The Duke': "But that's right. You're the chosen heroes of the faewild, aren't you? Then ask yourselves this: are you really okay with erasing someone from existence just because you like another side of them better?"
Twig: "We are if he's a little BITCH!" Gideon gives the brownie a supportive pat with a laugh Gideon: "Well said Twig."
'The Duke': "But is that JUST?" He continues to raise his arms in a taunting manner, but it is clear he is starting to look and sound a little more harried (as anyone with sense usually is after prolonged exposure to these idiots) 'The Duke': "You think you can get him to override me? ME? The Duke of the Twilight Court??!"
Kremy sidebars with Gideon. Kremy: "We could if we got him to fall off the Herris wheel couple more times." Gideon: "Hehe yeah! Couple a hits and he'd be back to full form no problem!" Kremy: "Can't hit him too hard though, have a repeat of Chuckles." Gideon: "Nah, He ain't a clown, I don't think he'd laugh to death if we punched him in the body like Chuckles did."
'The Duke' interrupts, flustered at being ignored. 'The Duke': "ENOUGH!" 'The Duke:' THIS is the faewild; MAGIC country! Anything is possible. We'll see who the land's deem most worthy of sticking around. A distinguished aristocrat-- or a blubbering waste of flesh." Bonus panel: Internal Torbek dialogue represented in a sad thought bubble 'Gottttta say, the odddds aren't in Torbeksss favorrrrrr'
[Some details have slightly shifted as I developed this idea more, but I thought there was still a lot to like in these character interactions in this original draft.]
