Something about Naruto’s character has always made me so incredibly sad and horrified and I have no idea why. I don’t know if it’s due to his different treatment to both his parents, something about him immediately punching Minato the moment he realized that was his dad, that his father was the one to give him such a heavy burden, or something about him sobbing his little heart out and holding onto his mom the moment he met her. Like the little kid he was when he lost her (literally as a newborn) and the little kid he still was when he first properly met her.

Or maybe is something about how much he holds on to whoever doesn’t treat him badly. Even if he’s just being ignored, his sole existence not being acknowledged, he isn’t being treated like a filthy animal. Maybe not being treated badly was what Naruto thought love was. Maybe that’s why he’s always hold onto Sasuke. Because, in a way, they were one and the same, at least in Naruto’s eyes.

He doesn’t care for where does that love come from, or from who. As long as he’s not being hurt then Naruto is bound to think that that’s love. Because he grew up without it, so he doesn’t know how it should feel like.

Maybe it’s something about Naruto’s emotional dependency that has always made me so horrified and upset.

I’m just….UGH NEJI WOULD’VE BEEN THE IDEAL FATHER AND BORUTO WOULD’VE LOOKED UP TO NEJI AS A FATHER FIGURE WHILE NARUTO WAS BUSY…KISHI COPPED OUT WITH THIS ONE….there I said it with my whole chest.

As you can see, Meiten can be a bit stabby-hotheaded-pants like her mother sometimes… Their kids may mostly look like Neji but their personalities are definitely Tenten. They have their work cut out for them for sure!

Just some quick sketches of the kids. I’m missing ChouChou and Inojin but they would’ve made up the squad.

ino is wearing shorts under the dress :-) and hina's is a bit of a fusion of all her outfits + hyuuga style. kiba keeps the same elements just shifted to the left and gains +100 scars

thing about tenten is that in many ways she fails to "pass" as a girl by naruto gender rules. like gender in naruto is a whole Thing that frankly i'm not even close to qualified to talk about but i do think that it's interesting that although tenten's character brushes by some traits considered feminine by the narrative she ultimately fails to commit to any of them. when she's first introduced she seems like she has a crush on sasuke but that gets dropped and never mentioned again fairly quickly. she doesn't just not become a mednin- she is incapable of medical jutsu. in boruto, she has not settled down and gotten married and had kids! this combined with her unusual level of brutality for any naruto character (see: weapons as grounded in reality + therefore more understandable violence) and lack of heritage does make tenten the most "undeserving" of the konoha 12. she isn't fitting into the cultural framework of a "good" ninja. but she's here anyways.

the thing that pisses me off about the sasuke retrieval arc is. there was no reason whatsoever for tenten not to be there. not in-universe and not from a meta perspective. it makes zero sense to leave her out and it makes shikamaru look like an idiot

I can’t believe Kishimoto killed off half of the only other tolerable couple besides Shikatema lmao. I would’ve loved to see Neji and Tenten together in Boruto, but instead we get ships that need to mischaracterize the characters involved to work and the worst matchups.

the way naruto had to prove himself to everyone except hinata bc she believed in him from the beginning. and the way hinata spent her entire run on the show having to prove to other people that she wasn't weak except for naruto bc he believed she was strong from the beginning

Tenten finds it hilarious that Neji insists on forcing the three of them to try and work together to land a hit on him…kind of like how Gai used to make Lee Neji and Tenten spar when they were gennin….

Dialogue:

Neji: what is going on with you three? You lot got easily tangled up!

Tenten: pfftttt~ heehee

Meiten: Papa is so merciless when we train together! No fair…

Hizashi (to his brother): Ugh, Nozomi got in the way! Not mom laughing at us…

Nozomi: Hizashi, get the hell off of me! I lost focus ‘cause of you.
