Chara, Frisk, and Kris as the protagonists of the Outlast series.

Does this make sense? No.

Especially for Chara. I feel like their role would be better suited for either Billy Hope or the Walrider itself. However. Waylon Park holds a special place in my heart. For... For shipping reasons. :/ And Chara is my favorite character of all time. So I just had to give Chara Waylon's role.

Also it's like 2 AM I did not feel like doing detailed hands. I also prolly should have made it clearer that Chara and Frisk and Kris are like. Grown adults. By giving them the hairstyles I draw their adult versions with. But alas. It is in fact late as shit so. I went with default hair.

as much as I doubt a bloodborne 2 will ever happen and as much as a decent part of me doesn't want a Bloodborne 2 (FromSoft is just not all that good at sequelizing, methinks), I do have a wishlist of sorts for what I'd like to see from the game if it ever did happen

Different setting. Same time period! I want it to be known that this is the perfect tech level for this setting, but I don't think that Yharnam has any blood left in the carcass. I'd want to see what the Great Ones manifest as in different cultures, most notably the Wild West. Give me the fine line between the roar of a train's engine and and the lungs of a beast, between the tracks and veins of the land. Bloodborne already has a pretty strong theme of horror coming from the abuse of the vulnerable in. Well, you've played the game, you know. We'll just gesture vaguely to Mergo, Arianna, and The Nightmare of motherfucking Mensis. There's a lot to work with in an alternate direction, with the exploitation of workers for the sake of industry.

Gimme new secondary weapons that aren't guns. I'mma be real here with this one, I just want a left handed meat hook to get myself behind an enemy. I think that would be an interesting twist on a parry and reward you for getting in close.

Mobility. Hunters are sort of implied to be fidgety little whippets of fighters, let me run at or faster than Torrent's speed, and on top of that, let me clamber up buildings or cliffsides. No game has ever wanted a jump button more than Bloodborne, Hunters should be able to clamber up and over and dart around obstacles. Hell, Nightreign is a great prototype for such a thing.

More direct eldritch trappings. Look, I love Bloodborne's slow reveal that it's not actually Gothic Horror, I think that it was done masterfully well, I love the little breadcrumbs that let you piece it out if you were paying attention ahead of the reveals, a genre shift like that is one of my favorite things in fiction. But....well the eldritch cat's out of the bag, isn't it? We already know that this isn't gothic horror, that these beasts aren't just some kind of werewolf plague. Lean into the sea, let there be fossils of once great creatures in the desert, let me go under the damn water.

TRAIN HORROR

A character with a slightly more defined background. As much as I know Fromsoft RPGs tend to lean in the direction of complete blank slate, there is something to be said about a story about a character. Look at Sekiro, look at Lies of P. I think those stories are much more engaging on a personal level, because we're not just Nobody. And you're already not just nobody in Bloodborne! There's a very real implication with the Cainhurst Summons, that very frustratingly has nothing to it beyond the "wouldn't it be wild if". It doesn't have to be a lot, just like....give me SOMETHING

my problem with taylor's a million and one ttpd variants is not that they exist (plenty of artists are doing this, it's not just her) or that they give her money (no one is forcing us to buy them) or that they mean she's chart hungry (she is and who cares) but that they're often marketed in bad taste by her team (namely with false statements of scarcity to heighten the feeling of "rareness" and thus desirability) and even more so than that, that by and large they're stupidly lazy! They're all cds because that's what easy to produce, some of them are only digital cds because that's even easier. The physical ones come without a cd booklet, because it would have been too much to slap a new photo on the cover and reprint them, so instead all you get is a slip of paper in a cd case. Including a live version takes zero effort. Including an "acoustic" version of each song also takes zero effort because Taylor doesn't have to have any involvement in them. All they're doing is pulling the same studio vocals and replanting them over a different or stripped down backing track. These are not lpss studio session style acoustic songs that are actually interesting, they're the same song sung the exact same way over slightly altered instrumentals. And again, no one is forcing me to buy them (and believe me, I don't buy them, lmao) so I'm by no means raging at her over it, I just think if you're going to try and entice more sales and keep your spot on the charts through "collectable items," you do come across better if you put a little more care into making them actually cool for your fans!

Kay here's a question I should have asked way sooner, but I remember seeing quite a shocking post of yours regarding a character popularity poll with Yukimi herself shown to be notably at the very bottom of the list

I saw a comment on Twitter claiming in a more blunt fashion that supposedly the reason is what is currently available for her Confidant "sucks"

Couldn't find anything myself to back this claim, so I wanted to ask if there's been comments made by players in China that express any form of criticism or disappointment over her character writing thus far?

Seeing how low she is in that poll was really sad to see, especially in how prominent she was in the Code Name X teasers & the rumors how she was going to be a main character in an older story draft :C

I don't actually keep up with much of what the Chinese fans are saying, admittedly, mostly because I just don't have the time to go through trying to Google Translate it all, haha. Most of what I hear about the popular opinions in the Chinese side of the fandom come from either official posts (for instance, acknowledging they've gotten a lot of feedback about an issue, or posting a popularity poll), or having other people send me messages about it on this blog.

I do agree it's a shame that Yukimi ranked so low on the poll, though! There's a lot of evidence that she was planned to be a main character, like you said, so I hope they give her a bit more love in the current game eventually.

That complaint you saw on Twitter is interesting, though, because she doesn't have a Confidant. She appears in Yaoling's Confidant as sort of a secondary focus (You can read more about her Confidant here), but that's it. That was apparently the earlier plan for how Confidants would work in this game, which they've stopped doing, because they got a lot of feedback that people didn't like the Confidants focusing on that character's relationship with Wonder and another character, rather than solely that character's relationship with Wonder. Yukimi's not the only character like this; Reo only appears in Kayo's Confidant, there are at least rumors that Seiji originally was only going to appear in Toshiya's Confidant (though since his Confidant hasn't been added yet, this may have changed), Masaki was originally a character that appeared in Kiyoshi's Confidant until they repurposed him, and Kotone initially only appeared in Tomoko's Confidant, until she got so popular they gave her her own Confidant as well. Many of the characters indicated in the files to be future teammates also follow this pattern, appearing in someone else's Confidant (Narumi in Merope's, Tamayo in Motoha's, Takumi in Shun's).

At least personally, I really enjoyed what I got to see of Yukimi in Yaoling's Confidant, and I like getting to interact with her a bit more in the Thieves Den now as well. If they really are reworking Confidants- and, as Kotone proved, clearly willing to give these secondary characters their own Confidants later on!- I do hope she gets her own Confidant in the future as well, and hopefully that'll help more people appreciate her, too!

I just pulled the biggest Warlock Big Brain move to finish the final boss fight in the goddamn Starcrossed mission. This was the most aggravating fucking mission I've played in Destiny in years and I could only beat the fucking final boss fight by using big brain warlock skills to wittle away at the boss. Cuz otherwise if I went in there like was intended, I very quickly got curbstomped because of the stupid "enemies are 5 power over you no matter what" bullshit. Took me like, 40 minutes to kill the boss, and it was a very weird way to do it, but I FINALLY did it after getting SO mad and done and I'm actually pretty proud of myself.

The cutscene at the end was worth it tho. I knew it was gonna involve Riven's mate, I just didn't know it would be that...breathtaking. Very cool to see an Ahamkara that actually seemed to be good at heart, protecting those he worked with. There's something so bittersweet about a massive, universe-twisting, manipulating dragon being unlike the rest of Ahamkara kind. Taranis not only protected those he bargained with, he also sacrificed his own life to protect his eggs when his mate became corrupted beyond repair until after death. Just hits hard that seems like the only Ahamkara to not die by the hands of Guardians only didn't because he cared so much about protecting his eggs after essentially losing his mate. Riven was fuckin lucky to find a fellow Ahamkara who had a much better heart than her.

Also, god. It was so cool to see the sketches of them running around, actually acting like wild dragons. It's been basically impossible to see the whole of an Ahamkara in action in game (as far as I've seen) because of how utterly massive they are. So seeing the sketch art of them frolicking was very pretty. Love stuff like that. Some (kinda toxic imo) fans are mad that more and more small cutscenes are made in that style. But they're mainly used for stories being told, memories of a time long gone for the character speaking. They're perfect for that kind of dialogue, and makes it so resources that would have been used for a cutscene like that can be used elsewhere. All while still giving us a visual story with honestly beautiful graphics.

So that exotic mission fuckin SUCKED, but at least the cutscene at the end was just beautiful and breathtaking. A story about the strength of romantic and familial love that I wasn't expecting to get. Very, very well done on bungo's part. I may be biased cuz I tend to be soft for that kind of shit, and cuz the art for this one especially was just beautiful, but yeah. Fuck that mission, but the reward at the end was great.
