I saw nobody talking on here about that and I'm guessing nobody saw that movie, but I'm pretty sure 'Hotel Reverie' also pays hommage to 'The purple rose of Cairo'.
That's a Woody Allen movie from the 80s, where a woman with a pretty shitty life seeks distraction and comfort by watching movies, mainly 'the purple rose of cairo'. One day the lead character steps out of the movie and sits next to her.
It's Woody Allen, so I do not exactly recommend it, since I'm not a fan plus it's depressing (and straight). But I vaguely remember as a teen I liked the atmosphere.
I almost forgot about that movie.
I remembered about 34 minutes into the ep when they started to go sight seeing in Cairo and was like 'wait, there was something about a rose, Cairo and fourth wall breaking'.
