Thank you, I'm so glad enjoy the puppy series. (Small plug - go read on AO3 if you want Maya as Captain and Maya x Carina happy 😊 and yes, it starts with a Christmas fic and has puppies.)

The Station 19 news does really suck for us as fans of the show, but I can't begin to imagine what it must be like for the people involved who have had their work so abruptly terminated like this. Not only the super invested actors who really connected with their characters like Danielle and Stefania - they've been living those characters for years - but everyone who has been clinging on through the strikes doing side gigs or whatever they could to keep going, knowing at least that when there was a deal, they at least had a show they were working on. But not anymore.

Sadly I have hung out in fandom long enough for this to not be the first time something like this has happened and all I can say is that it's never stopped me writing my ongoing stories before and it won't now, but then I sort of stopped after S3. But the puppies are not cancelled! They will be back, I just need to get some other stuff out of my brain by writing first (small plug - please check out AO3 or my Tumblr to see what that is!)

I was feeling nostalgic so I rewatched the first kiss scene again and I had– thoughts.

When Tommy said he was jealous, it takes Buck off guard because he's always seen Tommy as the cool, confident, collected guy so the thought he could be jealous or insecure never crossed his mind before.

But then Tommy lets him see a bit of his vulnerability and Buck must have realized, right then and there, that they were similar. That at the end of the day, what they both were searching for, was a place to belong, a family. And– and they found that. In their teams, in their friends... In each other.

Okay but Tommy drops out of high school — he told his father he was gay and he told him he could either be homeless or go to military school. He goes to military school and joins the army and he likes flying the helicopters because it means he doesn’t have to do any of the killing himself. And he makes some friends.

There's one guy who's like the squad leader who's a few years old and built like a Greek god and Tommy's young and a little bit in love. And they're friends maybe even family because this whole group of people spend every waking (and sleeping) moment together. And they all talk like a family and they all say they love each other and tease each other and it's nice. And one night it's just the two of them trading a flask of some sort of alcohol that Tommy doesn't know the name of and the man asks Tommy why he joined the army and where he wants to be in five years and Tommy trusts this man. He's half way in love with him so he doesn't even think twice before he tells the story about the time he came out to his family and his father nearly beat him to death before sending him here. And the conversation tapers off after that and he doesn’t register the change in the air but when he wakes up the next morning he’s being dishonourably discharged because he poses “unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability”. He knows what that means.

Tommy joins the fire department because he doesn’t know what else to do. He represses anything regarding his sexuality because he knows now that it’s wrong. He almost feels like he has a family again because his captain seems to like him and some of the guys are cool even if they say things he doesn’t agree with. And then he starts agreeing because maybe they’re right and he’s wrong and he’s just inherently wrong. So he follows their leads and is just straight racist because that’s how he can fit in.

And then a black lesbian woman joins and says she’s a black lesbian woman and Tommy doesn’t understand that either because you can’t be queer you just can’t be because it’s wrong.

But he nearly dies and and an Asian man saves his life and a black lesbian woman comes up with a better idea than any of them had and she tells them she’s no different and she is just as capable. So he improves himself he does and he tries to be better but he still can’t be who he is because the last 2 times he was honest about that he was betrayed.

Tommy leaves the 118 and “don’t ask, don’t tell” is lifted and he meets this guy he likes who likes him back and the 217 don’t seem to have a problem with the gender neutral pronouns and he slowly but surely lets himself open up again and be who he is and when the thing with that guy doesn’t work out because he’s moving to New York and Tommy’s not sure he’s ready to leave, it’s okay because his crew is there and they support him and he can still be himself.

Thinking about the helicopter scene and how Buck knew he felt something for Tommy but he couldn't put it into words. Buck did know however that if he kept telling to Tommy that maybe that feeling of never beeing quite on the ground, always feeling like he was missing something maybe that was with Tommy. When he felt Tommy's lips on his it was like he was push softly to the the ground and like the universe said this is what you have been looking for.

I'm gonna be this person for a minute because the things I read sometimes are just... not that. Some of you really need to talk to elder millenials instead of profiling Tommy based on your very young life experience. Please. The generation gap really shows and you misinterpret everything about him because his behavior of a late 30s/early 40s man doesn't match your less than 25 years old life. And I get it, you do with what you know, it's perfectly normal, but don't project yourself in a story where characters will invevitably be very different from you. Learn to know them instead. And even if you're jealous of Tommy (because I know how it works, you don't fool me), it's not a reason to paint a portrait of him that is nowhere near his canon self and what we see on screen. We're not dramatic teens anymore at this age and details are a lot less important when they're not about really meaningful things, as is life-scale things.

Tommy not wearing perfectly in-theme clothes at the party is nothing. It's a shame, sure, but does it spoil the fun (they end up not having)? Absolutely not. And remember: they just met. It's not like they've known each other for months or years and have high expectations because they have a history together. What is important here? That he showed up or that he wears the right outfit? He showed up while being on call. This is big. Details are details. It's like saying a 6 course meal was horrible because they didn't have the dessert you wanted and had to choose something else. No, the dinner was delicious, shame they didn't have the dessert but it's nothing. You still enjoyed the damn food served.

Creating posts about how Tommy doesn't care about Buck because of this kind of details, and using your personality as a reference to profile Tommy?? This is not how things work. It's not because you can't relate that it's wrong. It's not because it doesn't fit your fic ideas that it's not valid. It's not because it's different that it's not right. You can just say you don't like him for who he is, it's fine! No one is forced to like him. But don't twist the character's personality to fit your narrative. This is not how things work.

And please talk to people. Just, you know, sharing basic life things, in a safe space. It's possible and it's great, for everyone involved.

they aren't deciphering divine messages from apollo, it's a bunch of people sat in a room going "this is the story we want to tell" and then figuring out how to use the characters to do that.

if you really think about it, it makes perfect sense why buck hasn’t had his “oh” moment until now.

him and eddie have been attached at the hip ever since their first official team up.

their bond has only gotten stronger and more stable throughout the seasons, he never had a moment where he could really look back and think differently.

whenever eddie was in a relationship- so was buck! he never really gave him the chance to stop and wonder why, exactly, he always felt the need to be in a relationship the same time as his best friend especially because!! they were still together 24/7!!

it isn’t until now, when buck is single, and eddie is still with his girlfriend, where he’s been able to stop and really think about his feelings

i mean also? i am pretty sure it has been confirmed eddie is buck’s first official friend, at least his first ever closest one. it’s hard to separate friendship love with romantic love when you’ve never experienced the first
