Okay but Tommy drops out of high school — he told his father he was gay and he told him he could either be homeless or go to military school. He goes to military school and joins the army and he likes flying the helicopters because it means he doesn’t have to do any of the killing himself. And he makes some friends.
There's one guy who's like the squad leader who's a few years old and built like a Greek god and Tommy's young and a little bit in love. And they're friends maybe even family because this whole group of people spend every waking (and sleeping) moment together. And they all talk like a family and they all say they love each other and tease each other and it's nice. And one night it's just the two of them trading a flask of some sort of alcohol that Tommy doesn't know the name of and the man asks Tommy why he joined the army and where he wants to be in five years and Tommy trusts this man. He's half way in love with him so he doesn't even think twice before he tells the story about the time he came out to his family and his father nearly beat him to death before sending him here. And the conversation tapers off after that and he doesn’t register the change in the air but when he wakes up the next morning he’s being dishonourably discharged because he poses “unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability”. He knows what that means.
Tommy joins the fire department because he doesn’t know what else to do. He represses anything regarding his sexuality because he knows now that it’s wrong. He almost feels like he has a family again because his captain seems to like him and some of the guys are cool even if they say things he doesn’t agree with. And then he starts agreeing because maybe they’re right and he’s wrong and he’s just inherently wrong. So he follows their leads and is just straight racist because that’s how he can fit in.
And then a black lesbian woman joins and says she’s a black lesbian woman and Tommy doesn’t understand that either because you can’t be queer you just can’t be because it’s wrong.
But he nearly dies and and an Asian man saves his life and a black lesbian woman comes up with a better idea than any of them had and she tells them she’s no different and she is just as capable. So he improves himself he does and he tries to be better but he still can’t be who he is because the last 2 times he was honest about that he was betrayed.
Tommy leaves the 118 and “don’t ask, don’t tell” is lifted and he meets this guy he likes who likes him back and the 217 don’t seem to have a problem with the gender neutral pronouns and he slowly but surely lets himself open up again and be who he is and when the thing with that guy doesn’t work out because he’s moving to New York and Tommy’s not sure he’s ready to leave, it’s okay because his crew is there and they support him and he can still be himself.
#years later he flies a helicopter into a hurricane for the same people who stopped him from going too deep#into something he didn’t even believe in#and there’s this guy with a birthmark above his left eye and the widest smile there is#and he’s saying absolute nonsense and Tommy can’t help but smile#and there’s this other man too also gorgeous but not his type#who has all the same interests as him and he thinks if anything he’s made a new friend#and then the cute dorky guy calls the next day stumbling over his words saying his name is evan - from the rescue mission#and he asks for a tour of the 217 and Tommy agrees because how could he say no#and then he’s asking to go out but he already has plans but rain check? because there’s something about this guy that maybe…#and Tommy thinks that’s it but then evan turns up everywhere#and then things get a bit funny and Tommy feels like it’s his fault and he has to apologise#so he goes to Evan’s house not expecting anything just to say sorry#and Evans there looking absolutely amazing as always and he’s saying things that Tommy can’t help but read into#and he’s getting closer and closer and Tommy can’t help it#he kisses him and keeps his eyes shut just a moment longer just in case#he doesn’t want to open his eyes and see a disgusted look across Evan’s face so he stays closed just a little longer#but evan just looks like his brain has restarted and he’s nodding and joking when Tommy asks if that was okay#and they’re going on a date#and it hurts when evan says those worlds because tommy has spent long enough in a closet being someone he’s not and hurting people#and he can’t go back there he just can’t and he doesn’t want to be the one to force evan into anything so he leaves#and then he gets a call a stuttered invitation to meet at a cafe and of course Tommy says yes#he doesn’t know what he expects but it’s not this#Evans beaming at him with the brightest smile asking him to be his date to his sisters wedding#how can he say no when he looks like that (as long as he never buys coffee again)#and evan holds his hand even though everyone is around and ok that’s good#he’s late to the wedding and practically dead on his feet but he said he’d be there so he comes and the moment evan sees him#hes kissing him and he’s ok that’s great he could get used to this#bucktommy#911 abc#tommy kinard

Tommy got out of his truck; he had been going to this coffee shop every day for the past four weeks since he ended things with Evan. He hadn’t wanted to end things, but he had seen a future where Evan hurt him badly. And Evan wouldn’t have meant to do it, but Tommy couldn’t take that chance. He had been hurt so many times in the past that this would have been the last time he let himself fall in love with anyone. He would just remain a loveless, lonely, bitter old gay. He had seen many of those in his life so what was one more?
He walked up to the counter; Del was working today. Their nametag said ‘Adelaide’ out of some requirement by their boss, but he knew better than to call them that. He had once and the death glare that they had given him made the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end and a full body shiver ran through him, “Afternoon Del,” Tommy greeted them. Their pink hair was styled similar to Lori Petty and Tommy really liked it, “Nice hair today. New hair stylist?”
“Hey Tommy!” Del’s exuberant voice broke the silence of the shop, “You know I do all my own styling. But I did decide to that that pixie cut you showed me. You think it looks good? Its giving Manic Pixie.”
“If I didn’t think it looked good, do you think I would have given you the suggestion? I might not be the best flaming homosexual, but I do know how to tell a person what will look good on them,” Tommy joked. He only got this way with Del. They just made him feel comfortable to be himself. And he appreciated them for it.
Del smiled their award-winning smile at Tommy, “So will it be the usual today?”
“You know it,” Tommy replied back. He eyed up the pastry cabinet, “That lemon loaf also looks good. You make it fresh today?”
“Always,” Del said as they started to make Tommy’s drink.
“Throw on that lemon loaf as well,” Tommy replied, “I’m having a bit of a sweet tooth moment today.”
“You know I watch you drinking this coffee every time you come in here,” Del said as they made the drink, “And everyday I swear I watch you shudder each time you take a sip.”
“Its just the first thing I usually have in my body each day,” Tommy lied through his teeth. He was embarrassed to say why he was always drinking a drink that didn’t make him happy. Hell, it made him sadder than anything, and on top of all that, it was an abomination that shouldn’t exist, but he still made himself drink it, “Its not as bad as you might think.”
“I’ve made this drink for myself Tommy,” Del made a face as they put it down on the counter, “And it is an abomination to the world of coffee and should never exist in the first place.”
“I’ve heard of drinks that shouldn’t exist, this is nowhere near as bad,” Tommy replied, “Have you heard of a Wayne Gretzky?”
A look of confusion fell over Del’s face as they grabbed a slice of lemon loaf for Tommy, “Can’t say that I have. Dare I ask?”
Tommy smiled, “It’s from Canada. Wayne Gretzky was number 99 on all teams he played for, so you go to a Tim Hortons and ask for the Wayne Gretzky,” He paused for emphasis, “And they give you a regular coffee with 9 sugars and 9 creams.”
The look of absolute horror on Del’s face was worth telling that story. He had never personally tried it, but he had met some Canadians in the past. They had some weird ways of doing coffee up north, “That is the most horrifying thing I have ever heard of,” Del sounded like they wanted to vomit, “Why would someone do that? Do they even have space for coffee after that?”
“I have no idea,” Tommy paid for his coffee and loaf, “But I don’t want to find out. Thanks for this Del. You’re the best.”
“I’ll keep an eye out for that shudder,” Del called out after Tommy as he walked away. Del had pulled out their phone, and they were rapidly texting someone. Del always did that at the moment that there wasn’t a person at the counter. Working in a coffee shop like this one, they didn’t get much to do unless someone actually came in.
Tommy shook his head and walked towards a table in the corner. He could people watch from there and wallow in all of his feelings while still knowing what was going on around him. When he sat down he steeled himself before taking a sip of his drink, and on cue, the full body shuddering from how horrible it was took him over. But after the shudder there was a sense of melancholy, a deeper sadness as he continued this ritual every day for the past weeks. This was the coffee that Evan had gotten him that fateful day when they decided that they could make a relationship work. Tommy had given him a second chance and they started the best 6 months of his entire life. Nothing had compared to it.
Tommy felt his face starting to get a bit sadder as he sipped and shuddered. He couldn’t help himself. He didn’t know why he tortured himself like this either. It was because he deserved to have this pain for what he did to Evan. Sip, shudder, repeat. Occasionally he took a bit of the lemon loaf. It was good. Cut the horrifying flavour of the coffee.
He occasionally heard the bell jingle as someone came into the shop to get a coffee and leave. Few people stayed inside to enjoy the atmosphere. It was a nice kitschy little shop, bit of a hodge podge of everything and nothing all at once. Imagine your grandmother’s house, but if it was pastel coloured. That was this coffee shop. They did good coffee and baked goods. Tommy wasn’t certain why, but he heard the bell jingle for the door, and he looked up at this one. He had been ignoring most of them but something in his soul made him look up, and there he was. Evan Buckley. In the flesh. Tommy felt a panic rise up in his body. Evan was here. They hadn’t seen or heard from each other in four weeks and here he was. He looked as amazing as he always did. Tommy couldn’t help but smile, remembering the times that he and Evan had just sat together and looked at each other. He wished he could go back to that. But he couldn’t risk it. He wasn’t the last boyfriend. He was never the last boyfriend. Always the first.
Tommy honestly thought that he was cursed. He had done something to someone, and they had placed a curse upon him. Yes, he had made fun of Evan for believing in the Billy Boils curse, but this one on him had substantial lived proof behind it. And Tommy had even asked Billy to break his curse on Evan, so it wasn’t like he didn’t believe in curses. Just the Billy Boils one was ridiculous. Tommy however was doomed to always be the first boyfriend for newly out people, gay, bisexual, pansexual, and everything in between. But never the last. Why would anyone want to stay with a broken mess like Tommy? He had horrible nightmares that would wake himself and anyone staying with him up. Flashbacks to his time in Iraq, flashbacks to his childhood with an abusive father and a dead mother. Flashbacks to the pain he had caused so many people. And he deserved it all.
Evan went up to the counter and placed his order, “You are the second person to order that drink today,” Del said aloud, “I’ve tried it and its honestly the most horrifying thing I’ve ever drank. But you do you.”
“Second person?” Evan asked. Tommy prayed to anyone who was listening to please let Del keep his being there secret. Allah, Yahweh, God, Jesus, Jebus, Shiva, Anything. Anyone. Please let them keep him a secret. He didn’t want Evan to know he was there.
Del motioned over towards where Tommy was sitting, FUCK, he swore loudly in his head. Guess Del didn’t get the hints over the weeks. Evan smiled and waved at Tommy. Tommy put on a smile and waved back. He didn’t want to have to do this. Didn’t want to have to explain why. Why was something even hey didn’t fully know. Please don’t let him come over this way.
As if the gods he had been praying to were mocking him, Evan brought his coffee over to the table that Tommy was sitting at and sat down, “Hey Tommy,” Tommy noticed that Evan was forcing a smile. It definitely didn’t make it up to his eyes. They had a deep sadness about them. It hurt Tommy’s soul knowing that he was the cause of that.
“Hello Evan,” Tommy replied. He quickly corrected himself, trying to distance himself from the name that only he had been allowed to call him by everyone he knew. Maddie was the only other person who called him Evan in LA, “I mean Buck. Hello Buck.”
Evan flinched slightly at the name change, after a brief glimmer of hope had crept into his face, “You can still call me Evan. I don’t mind.”
“I’m nothing special so I’ll just call you what everyone else does,” Tommy replied, “How have you been?”
“Baking lots,” Evan admitted. Tommy noticed a sense of longing when Evan looked at him. He knew he had the same look on his face. He just had to keep his resolve, but it was getting harder to maintain. It was easier when they weren’t talking or seeing each other. He hadn’t even heard from Howie, Eddie, or Hen in the past four weeks. He wasn’t the best of friends with any of them by any long shot, but they had sporadic messaging since the Cruise Ship rescue, then nothing, “Working whenever I can. Keeping my mind busy. Been coming here because Del makes an amazing cup of coffee.”
“I gather by Del’s comment that you still drink that abomination of a beverage?” Tommy chuckled, “They told me that they tried it once and nearly died.”
“Seems like I’m not the only one who drinks it,” Evan raised an eyebrow and looked at Tommys cup.
“Yes well,” Tommy took a sip, shuddered, but felt a little memory of their first time together. Evan asking him to give him a second chance, being asked to a wedding he didn’t even make it to. Just a good memory associated with really bad coffee, “I figured I would try it after that first time you got it for me. Its…. growing on me.”
Tommy knew Evan’s facial expressions quite well over the six months of their relationship. What was on his face now was his ‘I know you are lying’ face, “So why haven’t I seen you around here lately?” Evan asked. He looked like he genuinely wanted an answer. Tommy wasn’t certain if he could tell Evan the truth. He had been coming here every day, drinking this disgusting coffee just so he could remember the first really happy memory they had together. It was all he had somedays after a particularly grueling day at work, “I know because this place is close to my loft, so I come here whenever I feel like going out for a coffee.”
“I just like it here,” Tommy lied through his teeth again. He was here because secretly, deep down, he wanted Evan to come in while he was here. He hadn’t planned on it today. But he was secretly hoping for him to make an appearance while he was here so he could see him again. Look at his silly unkept curls, his perfect smile, even his little port wine stain birthmark over his eye that he liked to kiss every night before they went to bed, “As you said, Del makes a great cup of coffee.”
“And it had nothing to do with my loft being so close?” Evan pushed into Tommy a little bit with that. This man was trying to get him to admit that he wanted to run into him. And Tommy just wanted to admit that he did.
“I’m not sure what you mean,” Tommy said, his voice raising at the end. If Evan remembered anything from their relationship, he would have heard Tommy’s lying voice. He wasn’t exactly subtle about it. Its why he sucked at Poker, “I just like the ambience.”
“Mmmhhhmmmm,” Evan replied. Tommy knew he was caught in the lie. Whether Evan called him out on it was another story, “Well since I have you here. We can have a conversation.”
FUCK, Tommy thought again. This was not how he had wanted today to go.
“Its been four weeks,” Evan said, “And during those four weeks I’ve had a bit of time to think. Yes, I baked and worked but I also did a lot of thinking. And I realized something,” Tommy was bracing himself for an admission of him finding someone else. He would be happy for Evan if that was the case. Its all he wanted for Evan. That he is happy. It would hurt him in ways that he couldn’t imagine, but he wanted Evan to be happy, “It also took Hen and Eddie doing various things over the past weeks to make me realize something, and a very heartfelt talk with Bobby last night to help me see.”
“And that was?” Tommy said. He was curious what all Hen and Eddie had done but it wasn’t his business anymore.
“That I’m still in love with you,” Evan said matter of factly. Tommy choked on his coffee as he had been bringing it up to take a sip of it.
“I’m sorry,” Tommy said, “What was that?”
“Well over the past four weeks, I would bake something whenever I had the urge to talk to you, or message you. Chimney is incredibly pleased with these results as he gets baked goods on a regular basis. Maddie not so much. She’s pregnant by the way,” Evan added on at the end, “But what they made me realize is that I was always thinking about you. And wanting to talk to you. But my brain was making me do something different instead of being an adult about it and just calling you. Hen and Eddie playing keep away with my phone once almost didn’t go well for Eddie,” Evan laughed at that, “I was ready to maim his ankle again with that.”
Tommy had the first genuine laugh he had allowed himself to have in the time since he broke up with Evan, “I bet you would have.”
“I had murder in my eyes that day,” Evan joked, “But it made me realize that I still felt something for you. It took a talk with Bobby last night to make me realize what it was. I hadn’t admitted to myself my feelings I had for others before. Not since Abby,” Evan looked up at Tommy. Tommy guessed he was trying to gauge his reaction, “Anyways Bobby talked to me and asked me what I really felt. I had talked with Maddie and Josh about how things went with us at the time, and I was reluctant to say Love. I saw a future with you. I just didn’t know what I was feeling. Was it love? Well Bobby set me straight in a matter of speaking.”
Tommy knows that he felt love for Evan. He realized it that day in the cemetery when Evan was talking about family and how they are this long dead cowboys posse. Something clicked with him. It did scare him a bit. But then when Evan started talking about how much he admired him and how transformative this relationship was, that’s when things became real for him. And how his fear broke him, “I love you too,” Tommy said meekly, “Since that day in the cemetery.”
It was Evan’s turn to look up shocked, “Really?” He sounded excited, “Why did you end things if you felt that way?”
“I have scars that you haven’t seen,” Tommy replied, “I have felt this way before with so many people, and each time I admitted that to myself, then that person decided that they wanted someone else,” Tommy felt embarrassed to say it, “It was easier for me to end things because if I did then I figured it would hurt less than if you did in the future when you realized that I wasn’t what you wanted,” It sounded stupid when he was saying it out loud, but say it out loud was what Tommy did, “It still hurts but it was my own fault for letting my fear and cowardice get to me.”
“I don’t claim to be the most knowledgeable in this,” Evan said, “But I know what I want in my life. And what I want is you. Since the day you walked out there has been a Tommy sized hole in my heart. I did so many different things to try and refill it, but it never felt the same. So,” Evan reached a hand across to Tommy, “If it is ok with you, I would like to try again if you would let me. You make my world feel complete.”
Tommy didn’t know what to feel. This was different from every other time someone had done this to him. He couldn’t remember a time when someone had actually said they loved him. He was confused, “You want to try again. After what I said to you and just left?”
“Call me an idiot,” Evan said, “Eddie calls me one all the time. Hell, he even called me one when I called you to meet here to ask for that second chance all those months ago. And I know I’m an idiot. An idiot who is in love with you even though you left me behind,” Evan held Tommy’s hand, “and it shouldn’t be me who asks for a second chance but I’ve never fought for what I wanted and I don’t want to waste anymore time waiting and pining, Los Angeles may run out of flour before that happens. So, would you take me back? Be my boyfriend again? We can go slower if that’s what you need.”
“Just take him back you moron so I don’t have to see your sulking ass in here everyday,” a voice yelled from the counter. Del had decided to make their opinion known.
Tommy laughed a little at Del’s outburst. They really had been seeing Tommy in here everyday, “One condition,” Tommy said.
“Conditions?” Evan said, “I’ll entertain one, but you are pushing it Mr Breaks Up With The Man He Loves.”
Tommy shook his head, “My one condition to paraphrase you,” Tommy said, “Why be apart when we can be together. I love you, you idiot. So, move in with me. I have a house with a yard, a car lift, and a garage with a sweet Muay Thai set up, which might I add, we have not taught you. I’m sure I can make room for all your stuff and more.”
Evan smiled the largest smile he could at those words, “That is very good paraphrasing,” Evan’s face couldn’t contain the glee he was feeling, “I might need your kitchen to be renovated a bit, but we can discuss that at another time. But if you’ll have me, I would love to move in with you.”
“Then it’s settled,” Tommy smiled wider than he had in weeks.
“I have to call Maddie,” Evan said.
“Did she know you were coming?” Tommy said.
“Del texted me when you got here today,” Evan waved over at them, “Your downer attitude was affecting business apparently.”
“I did not say that!” Del called out defensive. They really had amazing hearing being able to hear the entire conversation from their counter.
“I’m paraphrasing,” Evan called back, “But yes. Del let me know. Maddie said the universe would bring me the right person. I guess the universe did.”
Tommy smiled at Evan. It was weirdly surreal for them to just come back together again after having been apart for four weeks. It was the magic of this café, Del’s prodding, or this nasty coffee, but they were together again. No tears. At least not in public. Tommy had some dignity left in him. He would however probably end up crying out of happiness the moment he got into his truck.
“So,” Evan said, “Is my handsome boyfriend going to take me to see my future home?”
“I would love to,” Tommy replied. He stood up from the table. He put his plate and cup on the dirty dish tray and head out the door, not before wishing Del a great day, and took Evan into his truck, “So what’s this about kitchen renovations?

Authors Note: Tada!!! Another successful story. I mostly wrote this magically before I went to bed one night, and then throughout the course of my day at work the next day on my iPhone (Microsoft OneDrive FTW). I also apologize if some of the ideas seem disjointed. I'm not good at planning things out and I tend to just write by the seat of my pants. And I just didn’t want to have them being super angsty and mopey. I wanted to have them being mature adults about the whole situation. So hopefully everyone enjoyed this, leave me a comment and a like and I’ll see you on my next story.

Awards Season (latina!reader)
---------------------------------------------------------------
“Here to present the award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, please welcome Meryl Streep!” the host announced. A roar came from the audience at the mention of her name, the very acclaimed actress welcoming the attention and making her way to the microphone.
“Oh, stop it” she said and waved them away, earning a laugh and even more cheering from the theatre. “If I’m honest, I really considered not presenting this award because it breaks me inside to give the Oscar to someone else when it’s rightfully mine” she said in a funny, raspy evil voice, resembling a witch, “But you know, sharing is caring or whatever. Alright let’s get to it.” she continued dejectedly, still joking.
“This year, we have been blessed with beautiful films and, along with them, incredible performances from beautiful and talented actresses. Viola Davis, your abilities to embody different characters and raise awareness to ongoing issues in society has always amazed us, and it does once again in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, Meryl announced, the camera going to Viola who was sitting about 10 seats to my left, the audience (including me) applauding and praising her. Literally all of her performances are incredible.
Could I still believe I was here? Definitely not, and not any time soon. From small skits to my big break with Tom Holland in a stupid rom-com that I didn’t even want to make, to now. Tom knows it’s nothing against him, it’s just that I haven’t learned to appreciate romantic comedies the way he has, but the thing I loved most from doing it was finishing it with Tom. He had become such an important person in my life since that moment, what with guiding me through the newfound world of fame and being there for me when I joined the Marvel franchise, it was just more than I could ever dream of. Now I sit here at the freaking Oscars, with Tom Holland as my date, and having done one of the greatest films ever, nothing could keep the smile off my face. Or the nerves.
My leg kept bouncing up and down, a nervous action I often did and one that the guy beside me had caught on to real quick when we first met. His warm hand gently squeezed my thigh, and I turned to look at him a little surprised.
“Hey, it’s okay” he softly said, his gaze soft and comforting.
“I didn’t even realize I was doing it” I answered in the same tone, whispering a thank you and letting my hand rest on top of his, weirdly interlocking our fingers.
Meryl turned to where Olivia Colman was sitting, “Your Majesty,” she started, referencing her portrayals of royalty and causing her to chuckle, “your moving performances have always left us wanting more, and I’m sure that is what I and everyone felt when we saw you in The Father” a big smile broke out on her face, and cheering ensued once more for our queen, or at least one of mine.
“Aging is some we all go through...unfortunately,” Meryl uttered into the mic, touching up her almost white hair, “and you, Cynthia Erivo, made us relate to your character this way with your brilliant acting in Reaching 39″, that woman is simply amazing, I thought as I clapped and cheered with the audience.
“My dear Kate,” the camera panned to Kate Winslet, who just stared fondly at the woman on the stage, “watching you grow as an actress has been one of the pleasures of my life and you reach new heights both professionally and literally in Misdemeanors”, she is such an icon, oh my.
Finally, Meryl Streep turned to look at me in the front row with a grin on her face, and I quickly got into “camera mode”, as I like to call it. I sat up straighter, looking at her with gentle eyes and smile.
“Señorita Y/N Y/L,” she started with the heavily accented Spanish word for Ms., “with your entrance into the world of filmmaking, you have set new expectations for all of us to reach. Even though this is your first nomination, I feel in my heart it won’t be the last, and we can’t wait to see more of you like we saw with your extraordinary performance in Paraíso” she finished, bringing a big smile to my face at her words. Turning to the camera, I became a bit shy and gave a small wave, feeling Tom squeeze my hand in comfort and another hand on my shoulder from behind. I turned to see Salma Hayek, one of my co-stars in the film, who gave me a strong nod and smile, loudly saying “Eso!” as a cheer for me.
“And the Oscar goes too...” ayyyyy no ay no que nervios que nervios que nervios me muero- all of this going through my head repeatedly but having to put on a smile and a calm façade for the camera was exhausting. Tranquila, tranquila, si no ganas está bien igual solo el hecho de estar aquí ya es lo más-
“Y/N Y/L, Paraíso!” Meryl announced, and all I heard were screams and loud clapping from around me.
Shocked, I looked up with wide eyes and my jaw going slack a little. I felt a buzz fill my body and the idol on the stage beckoned me up, when I realized I hadn’t moved. I slowly stood up and instantly turned to Tom who quickly pulled me into his arms with a strong hug and whispering in my year, “I knew it! I knew you would do it darling. I’m so so proud of you babe, go get your award!” not giving me a chance to answer as he gave me a quick kiss and turned me around in the direction of the stage. Still in a bit of a daze, I didn’t see Salma, Eugenio (Derbez), and Benicio (del Toro) make their way to me, ambushing me in a group hug as they started jumping around and sort of with me, chanting “EH! EH! EH!” like Latinos at a party and causing me to laugh and come back to my senses. I hugged them all and continued to the stairs, stopping to hug my directors Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón.
I lifted my dress as I ascended the steps, and in true nervous fashion, stumbled and almost face planted in front of thousands of people.
“Uy, mierda” I chuckled to myself, and accepted the help of none other than Chris Evans who lent his arm for the remaining steps. I thanked him with a smile and after his Congrats!, I made my way to Meryl who held the famous award in her hands. She handed it to me and pulled me into her embrace, saying “Beautiful job, sweetheart, you’re amazing”, and all I could answer was “Oh my, thank you so much, you’re the amazing one”, sharing a laugh with her and standing in front of the mic.
I looked out into the audience, who were still giving me a standing ovation. Almost like a camera in my head, I tried to ingrain this moment in my mind and took a deep breath, starting my speech.
“God, I really hope I don’t forget any words in English right now” I said with a breathless laugh, inciting one from the people below me. “Thank you so much. Thank you to...um...so many people. To the Academy for this great, great honor. To my fellow nominees for inspiring me every single day. Being in the same room as you is already insane, let alone being nominated with you, it’s just- it’s truly out of this world. Viola, Olivia, Kate, Cynthia, you are my literal idols and if I could physically cut this Oscar into five pieces,” I said as I made a motion of cutting the award and humoured the audience, “I would give a piece to all of you. Um, thank you to my team, my agent, Victoria, te adoro y te agradezco for believing in me and helping me live out my dream. Sorry, I’m probably gonna switch between languages during this.” I said with a laugh.
“Paraíso was a project that, for me, came out of nowhere. But for my extraordinary directors los señores Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón, it was a life’s work so to you, gracias por darme la oportunidad de darle vida a Marielos and for giving me the experience of a lifetime. Salma, Eugenio, Benicio, Gael, and all the cast and crew, thank you for becoming my second family and supporting me every step of the way. It has been my honor to work with you” I said with a hand on my chest, showing that I was speaking from my heart and smiling at the kisses and cheers sent to me from them, hearing a crazed Te amamos! from Eugenio. It eased the tension in my body which I was incredibly thankful for.
“I also want to thank-” I stopped, getting a little choked up, “ha, sorry, it’s my family that couldn’t be here” I said, a wave of claps and cheering in comfort came from the audience. Quickly composing myself, I continued, “Ya, okay. All the way back home, lo hice! Familia, les dije que no les iba a agradecer si me ganaba un Oscar algún día por no creer en mi y hoy es ese día, pero no me lo perdonaría si no les agradezco. Gracias por apoyarme a pesar de que yo sé que les dio un ataque que quisiera ser actriz. Gracias por siempre estar ahí para mi, por quererme incondicionalmente y por enseñarme que trabajando duro todo se puede lograr. Los amo infinitamente.” I finished, with tears threatening to roll down my eyes. I tilted my head to the sky to prevent them from falling, and with a deep breath I turned to Tom who had his hands in a prayer stance while looking intently at me, the same smile from before still gracing his face.
“Tommy...” I started, and the audience audibly awed at the nickname, “Oh, you don’t even know what I’m gonna say to him” I said with narrowed eyes, but my gaze found my love once more.
“Thank you so much for being my rock ever since we met. I’m beyond thankful for you and all you do for me, baby. You make me the happiest and thank you for pushing me to do things that scare me. For being there for me in case I fall and for being my person. Te amo, amor.” I blowed him a kiss which he caught and jokingly used to wipe his tears, making me and the other celebrities laugh.
Please wrap up, I read from the screen, and let out and “Ay, perdón! I gotta wrap up sorry sorry” hurriedly finishing up my speech.
“Lastly, this award goes out to all the Latina girls out there with big dreams. Nunca se den por vencidas. No dejen que nadie les diga que no porque de que se puede, se puede. Querer es poder! I love you guys, my fans oh my gosh, thank you thank you, gracias!” I rushed out, raising the award to the air with one last big smile as Meryl guided me backstage to answer some questions. Just before I was off sight, I turned and looked out to the stage once more.
Lo logré...

Father’s Day Tradition
Tumblr media
Chris Evans/reader
Summary: Reader has been married to Chris Evans for the last seven years, she and their five year old son, Tommy, have made a cake for him for the last three Father’s Days. Reader feels incredibly grateful for her boys on days like these.
words: 1.4k
warnings: this is so fluffy, no warnings to my knowledge! :)
a/n: It’s Father’s Day and I can't stop thinking about Chris Evans’ dad energy after watching Defending Jacob soooo I wrote this, hope you guys like it!!
“No honey! Make sure to crack the eggs over the bowl every time! You don’t want the egg to be wasted do you?”
“No, Mommy! I’m sorry!” your five year old son says, grabbing another egg to break into the mixing bowl. It’s the night before Father’s Day and as tradition has it, you and your son are making a cake for your loving husband and Tommy’s amazing father, Chris Evans. You and Chris have been married for seven years now, and you’re so incredibly lucky to have him. He’s incredibly lucky to have you as well, and you never let him forget that. A crack followed by a plopping noise breaks you out of your thoughts, looking down to see a cracked egg on the floor. “Mommy, I’m sorry! It wasn’t me! It was Dodger!” You laugh despite yourself, you’ll never get tired of hearing your son’s excuses, most of them involving Chris’ adorable dog.
“Oh honey it’s okay, let’s just clean it up quickly so we can continue making this cake for daddy! How does that sound?”
“It sounds awesome Mommy! I love making cakes for Daddy, when I grow up, I’m gonna be a cake-maker!”
“Yes you will be Tommy, and you’ll make lots of cakes for Mommy and Daddy won’t you? Please?”
“Dodger too!” Tommy says cheerfully, running to hug the mixed-breed boxer. Now that the eggs have thankfully been cracked and added to the bowl, always the most precarious part of baking with a five year-old, you begin adding one egg at a time to the butter in the mixing bowl.
“Hand me the flour bowl Tommy!”  You say, you and your son together adding 1/3 of the flour mixture, then pouring milk in, and repeating the process until the batter begins looking like the right consistency.
“Mommy, you have flour on your nose! It’s funny!” Tommy says laughing.
“I do?” Tommy reaches up and touches your nose quickly before laughing even harder,
“Now you do!” You can’t be annoyed, you start laughing too and pull your son into a big hug, feeling incredibly grateful that you’re here baking with the funniest little boy on earth to celebrate the world’s best father and husband. Once the cake has been put in the oven to bake, it’s time for Tommy to make a card. He draws a big heart on the biggest piece of paper the two of you can find in the house. “I’ll write I love you so much Daddy! Happy Father’s Day! Is that good?”
“That’s perfect baby, can Mommy write something on your card too? Just a small thing?”
“Fine I guess, but make sure daddy knows this is from me!”
“Of course, I would never try and steal this amazing card, even though I am a little jealous of it.” You say teasingly before writing, Happy Father’s to my loving husband, Love you forever, Y/n.
The sound of the oven timer alerts you to the cake being finished, along with the delicious smell filling the house. “Okay Tommy do you remember what we use to take things out of the oven to be safe?”
“We use the oven gloves mommy! So we don’t get burned!” You pull the cake out of the oven. “Is it done?” Tommy asks.
“Well Tommy I’m going to tell you a super secret grown-up fact, do you promise not to tell anyone?” Tommy eagerly nods before you retrieve a toothpick and place it into the middle of the cake, it coming out clean. “See how it came out clean? That means it’s done!”
“That’s like magic Mommy! Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me!” You giggle quietly, oh how you love toddlers. You have to wait for the cake to cool but you and Tommy mix up the frosting, excited for the most fun part, decorating! Both of you grab spatulas and begin spooning frosting onto the cake, assembling the two layers you have baked. You carefully write Happy Father’s Day on the top before letting Tommy write Daddy in big letters, then you place jelly beans on the top of the cake, remembering how much Chris loves jelly beans.
“Alright honey, the cake is done, it's time to go to bed now, remember, we have to wake up early to surprise Daddy! So make sure you go to sleep.” You place the cake in the refrigerator and follow Tommy upstairs, tucking him in and kissing him goodnight. You then make your way into your shared bedroom with Chris, seeing him sitting up in bed with a book, looking adorable but somehow sexy with his reading glasses on.
“Hi baby, how’d it go?” Chris says teasingly, wiping off the trace amount of flour still left on your nose. Of course it’s meant to be a secret, but Chris would have to be an idiot to still be surprised, this being the third year we’ve done this.
“Oh shh, Mr. Evans, it’s a surprise! I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about!” You get ready for bed, both you and Chris turning off the lights before you take your signature spot in his arms, feeling extremely safe in the arms of your husband. “Goodnight baby, I love you.”
“I love you too, Y/n.” He says placing a kiss to your forehead.
BEEP BEEP BEEP
“Ughhh, five more minutes.” You groan out and hit your phone a little too hard, causing it to fall on the ground, still blaring.
“But sweetheart, Tommy will be so mad at you!” Chris says groggily, rubbing his eyes. You remember immediately, it’s Father’s Day.
“Oh right of course, Happy Father’s Day babe, see you soon.” You say before rushing out of the room, where Tommy is sitting in front of the door looking extremely impatient.
“Mommy!” he whisper-yells, “you’re 11 minutes late!”
“I’m sorry Tommy, let’s go! Before Daddy wakes up!” You grab Tommy’s hand and walk downstairs. First, you take the cake out of the fridge to let it soften a little bit. Next, you make enough scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon for the three of you, letting Tommy crack the eggs again of course, you can’t have cake for breakfast without some actual sustenance! You also brew some coffee for both you and Chris, milk for Tommy.
“Is it time yet? Are we ready?” Tommy asks impatiently.
“Is your present ready? What about your card?” You ask him and he nods eagerly. “Then yes, we’re ready!” You place the coffee on a tray with the breakfast and allow Tommy to hold the cake, warning him that he must be extremely careful. You push the door open very slowly saying “Wake up Daddy!” Giving time for Chris to pretend to wake up for Tommy’s excitement.
“Woah! Look at all this! I’m so surprised! Did you make that cake all by yourself buddy?” Chris says to Tommy.
“Mommy helped a little bit, but I did most of the work!” You get on the bed and carefully place the tray down safely. Tommy places the cake down safely before yelping suddenly and running out of the room, coming back seconds later with the card and watch you had ordered online for Chris. “I almost forgot your present! Mommy said that since we have to stay inside it’s better to order things online! Is that true!”
“Sure is buddy, don’t you know Mommy’s always right?”
“Oh you are a flatterer Mr. Chris Evans, no wonder I married you.” You say lovingly, sinking into Chris’ arms with your cup of coffee. The three of you eat the breakfast, much to Tommy’s disapproval, wanting to eat the cake right away. You fight off Dodger’s advances while eating bacon. “Tommy, why doesn’t Daddy open his presents now!” Tommy grabs the card and gives it to Chris.
“Wow, Buddy this is awesome! This card is so big!”
“I know! This card is from me by the way, not Mommy!”
“Oh of course, thank you so much!”
“The watch is from Mommy, but she said I can give it to you too!”
“Well that was very nice of her wasn’t it bud? Can we say thank you Mommy?”
“Thank you Mommy!” Tommy says before hugging you.
“Thank you for the watch Mommy, and the rest.” Chris whispers to you and hugs you as well.
“Alright boys, I think it’s cake time!”
“Yay!!” Chris and Tommy yell at the same time, it’s so easy to see the resemblance in moments like this. You cut pieces of cake for all three of you.
“This cake is delicious Tommy! I think it might be the best cake I’ve ever had!” Chris exclaims, high giving Tommy.
“I told you Mommy, I’m going to be a cake-maker when I’m old like Daddy!”
“More cake for us!” Chris says, locking eyes with you as you look at each lovingly. The three of you sit together, laughing and enjoying the hot June Massachusetts morning. It’s times like these you feel the most grateful for your two boys, Dodger too of course.

march fic recommendations
hello! so I think we all know that sometimes we don’t appreciate writers as much as we should here on tumblr. they are amazing people that write some wonderful stories for us (for free) and they put a lot of time and effort into doing so. to honor that, each month, I’m going to be posting a fic rec list with a whole bunch of stories I have recently read and loved, and that I want to share with you all. and if you find some you like? let that author know their work is appreciated!! (let’s all support authors more!)
Bucky Barnes x Reader
Hold My Girl by @captain-ariel-barnes - this one HURTS let me just tell you. it is absolutely beautiful and does a wonderful job at not only portraying bucky, but also the feeling that I'm sure a lot of couples who were split up because of wwii felt. like I said this story is amazing but it left me crying and my heart hurting - in the best way possible!
Soft by @chillingbucky - oh my goodness did this story hit home for me. for the most part, I’ve been pretty confident with my body but also have wanted to change to boost that confidence even more and then felt worse when I didn’t stick through with my new plan.this story perfectly encapsulates those feelings and it nearly brought me to tears over how incredible bucky was at comforting the reader. when I read this it was the first story I read that day and it put me in such a great mindset!!
Lifelong Love Song Series by @suz-123 - even though this is not a bucky x reader (it’s an oc), this story is beautiful and the way it portrays bucky just feels so right and so spot on. there is fluff, angst, hurt, comfort, love, everything in this story. you should definitely read this series!
The House by @softlybarnes - ahhhh!! that is what I have to say for this story because it is so darn cute! bucky just makes me swoon (as always) and there is a great relationship between him and the reader! also, now I really want to fall in love and buy a fixer-upper house with the guy I marry. overall, if you want something fluffy that is extremely well written, this is one of those stories.
Truth Hurts by @ussgallifreyfics - this story is so different than other fics that tackle this same topic, but it the best way possible! the beginning hurts, but slowly bucky starts to come into the story and it is so sweet. not only that, but there is a lot of power from within the reader, which is AWESOME! heck yeah we can rescue ourselves (but if Bucky wants to help as well, I won’t be mad lol)
Lemon Pie Series by @nacho-bucky - I have reread this series like three times already, and it is just perfection! not only do we get 40′s bucky, but we get a HAPPY BUCKY WHO SURVIVES THE WAR AND GETS TO START A FAMILY! Each chapter/snippet is just so beautifully written, and I get pulled into the story each and ever time. bucky just makes me want to swoon, and if I don’t find someone who treats me the way bucky treats the reader in this series, I do not what I will do. but, this and all cait’s stories are amazing so please go read this, it will make your day!
Thomas Shelby x Reader
If Only You Knew by @im-not-looking-for-forgiveness - while this is technically a tommy x reader story, it really focuses on the friendship between the reader and lizzie stark, which I absolutely loved! it is such a healthy change to see lizzie portrayed in a nice way instead of a bitch as she often is written in stories. we love girls supporting girls, which is this story!
My Dear Charlie by @kadwrites -again, another story that is technically tommy x reader, but focuses on a different relationship, and this time it is between the reader and charlie! what I love about this story is, it highlights the love that one can feel for a child that isn’t biologically theirs, which is just a reminder of how important it is to show our love to others and to demonstrate our appreciation to those who do love us. also, I love that this story focuses on an older charlie, which is something I haven’t really seen yet.
Matches by @rhxegals - now this one really does focus on tommy and the reader, and I adore it! we get to see the reader confront tommy and I love when the reader is his equal in the sense that neither of them stand for being lied to or being left out of things. not only that, but we also see a more vulnerable side of tommy, and we get to understand his protective side a bit more which I am also a fan of!
this drabble by @connerkennt - it is short and sweet but powerful! it really shows (again) how protective tommy is over those he loves and I adore protective tommy! (alfie also plays a role in this drabble, which is always a plus!)
John Shelby x Reader
Something Unexplained by @justauthoring - man do I love john shelby, and if you do too, this is the story for you. just the way that olivia describes how john loves the reader makes my heart absolutely gush! I don’t want to spoil anything, so you just have to read it! (and there are so many other wonderful stories on this blog to check out after you finish this one!)
Steve Rogers x Reader
Beauty and the Beast AU by @kayteewritessteve - I am so so glad I found this story when I did so that I can include it on this list! au’s are some of my favorite stories to read/write, and the fact that this is beauty and the beast and mob!steve is absolutely amazing!! kaytee does such a wonderful job with drawing you into the story and really making you feel the power and emotions of the scene! only the first few chapters are up now, but they are great!
Peter Parker x Reader
Moving On by @midtownpetey -  my goodness, this one really hits right in the feels! I was tearing up throughout this entire story, because it is so beautifully written and really highlights the process of moving on when losing a loved one. it is not a graphic story, but the healing aspect, learning to move on when you feel like you can’t, that’s really what got me!
Harry Potter x Reader
Under the Stars by @lvmosity - this story is just pure fluff and it’s an actually harry potter story, which I feel like is so rare here on tumblr. anyway, I love how it’s just the reader and the golden trio worried about getting dates for the yule ball! there’s no underlying threat, just teens being teens, and harry being adorably awkward!
Scott Lang x Reader
Blue Dresses and Daises by @mypassionsarenysins - I just want to take this moment to appreciate the heck out of this story because it is absolutely amazing! not only is it a scott lang story (who is severely underappreciated! which why? he’s a dork and it’s paul rudd!) but this story is just filled with so much love that it makes me so happy and smiley. definitely a good one if you’re feeling down or you just want something extra fluffy!
Bonnie Gold x Reader
Ring Girl by @blinder-secrets - okay so I recently just got into bonnie gold stories, and man am I glad I did because this one is wonderful! bonnie is just so cute but he is also so protective over the reader, and it makes my heart swell! I love when you can feel how intense a relationship is through writing, and that’s what this is.
Roger Taylor x Reader
Hold Me Close Before I Go by @queenrogah - sobbing, just pure sobbing! well first of all, this story is slightly inspired by the song ‘so close’ from enchanted and I LOVE that song, so I was hooked from the beginning. but this story is very angsty but also mixes together so beautiful to tell this story of lost love between roger and the reader. it combines the past and the present so well, that truly tugs at your heartstrings for an emotional roller-coaster that is so worth it!
Long Distance by @dreamer821 - alright this is super long, but I promise it is so worth reading!! from the beginning, I was hooked and I got to witness this amazing story and all the love there is between roger and the reader. there is a bit of smut in this story, but the whole story really goes to show how powerful love is even when two people aren’t always near each other. it’s one of those stories that can restore your faith in love!
Laurie Laurence x Reader
Lost Love by @lotsoffandomimagines - ever since I saw little women in theaters, I have been looking for a laurie story, and this is the first one I found. oh my goodness, it is AMAZING, and I truly hope that there is a second part. but this story just draws you in and makes you fall for laurie, then comes there with that ending! I know I’m not describing this as best as I could, but trust me, the writing is beautiful and it wonderfully emotional. go read it! (also the gif of laurie is perfect!)
What I Wished I Said by @lillie-writes - do you want an angsty laurie story? well, here you go! this story is the form of the letter, and it made me tear up by the time I reached the end. it is so simple, but so heartbreaking. you can just feel how much laurie loves the reader and how much he wants to apologize, and I just wanted to find a way to hug him and comfort him. you will not be disappointed with this story!
Ransom Drysdale x Reader (Knives Out)
this drabble by @terry-perry- oh my goodness!! alright, first, I love knives out, and second, I love chris evans as ransom drysdale in that movie even though he is an asshole. however, this drabble does a wonderful job at showing a different side of ransom and how dedicated he and the reader are to their relationship!
Haunted by @et-lesailes = this is such a powerful story! now there is a trigger warning for this one so please be mindful of that but this story does a wonderful job at tackling such a difficult topic and how sometimes opening to another person can be exactly what you did. (and we also get to see more soft, non-asshole ransom which is always great!)
