“The red lipstick is new, baby.”

JJ’s voice was raspy, having sat in that same criss crossed position for around an hour, on the carpeted floor beside you, whilst you brushed makeup products gently to your skin. Detailed review of the products you typically use, and that deep rouge lipstick was not one of them.

You were sat at your vanity, preparing for a party at the boneyard. It was the last get together for the summer, so you were tedious in being sure that this makeup look was one to remember.

He resembled that of a small child, the way he’s been beaming up in astonishment. Admiring every move you make to enhance the impeccable beauty you already had to start with. And reminiscing at the fact that you were his, truthfully his in every way.

“Mhm,” you breathe, deciphering wether or not you should take the risk of wearing the color or not. Typically sticking to nudes and neutrals, this was something out of your comfort zone.

“You gonna’ wear it?”

“Should I?”

He gives you a ‘you would look perfect wearing a fucking trash bag, did you really just ask me that’ look. His hand grasps your thigh, thumb reassuring you against your flesh, with small circular motions. Replacing his thumb with his chin, you feel the bone dig into the thick skin— this required a better view than the one he had.

“Course’ pretty girl,” he batted his eyelashes with promise. “Now put that shit on, m’waiting.”

At that, you hesitantly take the top off of the black capsule. Twisting it up for more of the substance, revealing an untouched dark bloody shade of deep red— the most powerful shade. Divine femme fatale, if you will.

JJ could’ve sworn he shattered into a thousand bits, bursting at the seams. The way your mouth parted open delicately to apply it, so intimate and sensual.

Being that it was pigmented you merely needed a few strokes. To JJ’s dismay though, he wanted to rewind that moment, bringing it in closely to store in his brain for the long run.

Open at an angle so sacred he could sob from the sheer euphoric look.

“So fuckin’ sexy,” he can’t help the words that spill past his lips. Nearly in a trace, and he swore he felt drool leave his mouth.

“Yeah?”

You snap the cap back on, standing from the stool, sliding it inward, and JJ follows suit. Someone that was melting moments ago is now towering over you.

“Definitely baby.”

Sort of repaying him in a way, you flash a toothy grin at him, lipstick effortlessly lining your plump lips— you lean forward cupping his jaw with your palms. JJ happily obliged, not caring about the stains the redness would leave on his features. He couldn’t have asked for anything more, actually.

Your lips pucker softly, pressing kisses to every inch of skin you could reach on his face. From the small freckles that littered his jawline to the top of his forehead that was fanned by the tufts of his blonde tresses. Everywhere.

His heated cheeks. Kiss.

The button-like tip of his nose. Kiss.

His chin. Kiss.

His longing lips. Kiss.

Your mouth shape reflected on his tanned face, intricate lining of your lips, every crevice. Fragile and slow with each and every kiss.

Catching your breath, both you and JJ peer into the vanity mirror. He pulls you into his side chuckling at the reflection. His pretty face, painted in the marks of your lips. Yours, lipstick smeared with swollen lips.

This was when JJ strongly believed in the saying of ‘ruin her lipstick, not her mascara.’

“Gotta wipe it off now, J.”

You reach for a makeup wipe, not wanting your boyfriend to embarrass himself at the event to come. But he forces you into his chest to peer up at him, causing your eyebrows to knit together.

“Leave it.”

He adored the lingering sensation of your lips to the subtle skin. Wanting every part of him to be a reminder of you.

So that anyone that walks pass him could clear as day see, he desperately belonged to his lover.

“Really J, let me wipe-“

“I said leave it, baby.”

Chapter 7

Overlooked?

Inferior?

Played?

(Y/N) didn’t know what she was feeling. When she had woken the day after Christmas she had been saddened. The next few days, her turmoil had grown into confusion.  Her mind had not stopped racing since that moment with Paul. Those few minutes had thrown her for a loop, wondering how a stranger had been more thoughtful than her own boyfriend, a boy she had known for the better part of her life.

Then, there were those dreams. Thoughts that spiraled through her head but they felt so real. The emotions that she experienced in those dreams felt real. But there was no way they could be. Jacob was the one she wanted, surely everything else was simply a fluke. A rip in the seams of the fabric of reality.

It didn’t matter that they barely talked about anything but Bella or him. Or that without those topics their conversations were short and meaningless. He did care for her, he always had. He had chosen to be with her kept replaying in her head. Words that had become a mantra of appeasement.

Maybe her head was playing tricks on her, but her eyes weren’t.

She went down the stairs, the smell of lunch dancing in her nose. Bella was already sitting on the dining table, spaced out and munching on a piece of bread. Yet it was not her sister that caught her attention, not even the fact that she had cooked that day. It was the bracelet that dangled from her wrist. A silver chain with a wood-carved wolf charm.

“Afternoon,” Bella muttered. “You’re up late.”

“I-is that what Jake gave you?” the girl croaked out, tears stinging the back of her eyes. “That bracelet. Was that his Christmas gift?”

“Oh,” Bella responded. “Yes. Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Uh, yes, It’s very pretty,” she managed to say. “Can you excuse me for a second?”

Anger. That’s what she felt. Anger, envy, and absolute jealousy. And she was ready to let Jake know that he was the one responsible for what she felt. She needed to understand, she needed to hear from his mouth that it was truly her that he had chosen. Maybe just like her dreams of Paul, that gift had only been a fluke.

A knock on the door stopped her in her tracks as she headed back up the stairs to find her phone. Whoever was at her door had just saved Jake from starting the new year single. Instead, she clothed herself with a jacket to hide the pajamas she was wearing and went to the door. She had no idea who would be behind it.

“Paul,” she said as she swung the door open. (Y/N) was sure surprise was evident on her face as she felt her cheeks flush with blood. “Hi. What, um, what’re you doing here?”

“Hey. I’m supposed to check up on your sister, make sure everything’s alright,” Paul responded, his hand scratching the back of his neck. “Sam was the one that found her a couple of months ago in the woods and he asked me to come see how she was doing.”

“It seems everyone’s Bella’s biggest fan today.” She couldn’t help the roll of her eyes, the anger from that morning still fresh in her veins. “Sorry, that wasn’t really directed toward you.”

“Well, that was just my excuse to come here,” he grinned. “I needed a good enough reason to show up out of nowhere. Don’t tell your sister, but I wouldn’t come all this way to see her.”

“Then, why are you here, Mr. Lahote?” (Y/N) laughed. “Or do you frequently show up at people’s houses unannounced?”

“What do you mean?”

“Let’s see, you showed up at my place today and you’ve gone to Jake’s house twice now.” His face went frigid as he remembered the first time he went to the Black residence, even worse that she knew about it. “Yes, I know how you told Jacob to stay away from me. Still haven’t been able to wrap my head around that.”

“Oh, that was,” he stammered. “It wasn’t… I mean, I wasn’t…”

“It’s fine, Paul. Honestly forgotten,” she grinned jokingly. “But what I do wanna know is why you’re here today. Now that I know you’re not here for my sister.”

“Uh, I was wondering if you wanted to, you know, hang out.”

“Hang out?”

“Yeah, if you weren’t doing anything, of course,” he chuckled awkwardly. “I thought maybe we could go to the beach or something.”

“In the middle of winter, the water will be freezing! As a matter of fact, I don’t know how you can be in jeans and a long-sleeve tee.

“I run quite hot,” he laughed. “But what do you say? Do you wanna hang out��� w-with me?”

(Y/N) thought for a second. On one hand, she wanted to know who this person was. The boy that had gifted her such a thoughtful present without even knowing her name —at least, not formally. The same boy that had somehow made his way into each and every one of her dreams. On the other, Jake would grow crazy in anger at the mere fact that Paul was at her door. Luckily for the former boy, (Y/N) was feeling particularly angry with Jacob that morning.

“You know what? Why not?” she conceded. “Why don’t you come in while I get changed? Give me like twenty minutes, tops.”

“Oh, uh, sure,” he smiled. “Your dad won’t mind?”

“He’s at work right now and I doubt he’d allow me to leave you out here in the snow,” she laughed as she turned to go inside, very aware of Paul’s presence behind her. “Though, if he were here he would have made it very clear that he is the owner of a couple of guns.”

“Well, I’m glad he is not here then.”

“Help yourself to anything in the fridge or the kitchen. I’ll be back down in a bit.”

She disappeared up the stairs, a playful grin plastered on her face. Unlike with Jake, there was a calmness to Paul’s presence. Where her heart would race with uneasy nervousness when with Jacob, it remained a steady flutter with the Lahote boy. Another fluke, perhaps?

(Y/N) changed out of her pajamas as quickly as possible, her eyes trained on the dreamcatcher that hung above her bed. The rays of the morning sun were hitting the stones, reflecting a blue shine on the wall. The glittering light danced on the flat surface, filling the room with the same giddy energy she was already feeling.

There was excitement coursing through her and she didn’t understand the reason. She didn’t know why it had been so easy to say yes to Paul. Something deep inside her wanted to know more about him –know everything about him. It was the same part of her that felt something for him, the boy she only knew by name.

She gave her outfit a once over in the mirror. Her knitted sweater and blue jeans, even for the beach, did not feel good enough. But it would have to do. She knew that for some odd reason, nothing she wore would feel just right, because something –whatever it was—was concealing itself between their words.  

“You ready to go?” (Y/N) asked as she came down the stairs wrapping a blue scarf around her neck.

“Yes, uh. You look…” he cleared his throat, stumbling as he stood from the sofa. “You look nice.”

“You flatter me, Paul,” she chuckled. “You sure you don’t want something more to cover up? I mean, you might run warm but you’re still human. I brought this sweater down, just in case. It’s the biggest one I have.”

“You know what, sure,” he smiled. Even from where he was standing he could tell it smelled like her and it would be a way to feel closer to her. “Better to be safe than sorry, right?”

“Hope it fits.”

The sounds of their laughter mixed in the air, a perfect symphony of sounds swirling in the air. Paul struggled for a second to get the sweater past his shoulders, careful not to rip a single seam of the garment. It was snug to his body, slightly too tight with his own shirt under. But it smelled like her. All almond vanilla and pine.

“How do I look?”

“Like it’s a size too small,” she chuckled. “I can raid my dad’s closet for something that might fit better.”

“No, this is good,” he retorted. “I’m ready to go if you are.”

“Alright, then. Let’s.”

She followed him out of the house after making sure to leave a note for Bella and Charlie that she would be out.  (Y/N) was sure Bella already knew. Her ever-present silence drowned the house with her sorrow. She was quiet, but she sure was always alert.

(Y/N) thought for a moment about what it was that she was doing once she found herself in Paul’s truck. As they drove out of Forks and into the reservation she wondered what her intentions were. Was she hoping Jake saw them? Hoping he was angered at the sight and finally confessed how he felt about her? Or was her curiosity toward Paul reason enough to be there with him?

The beach was deserted. Not many people dared to be out by the shore during the cold season, yet there they were. Paul rounded the car and helped her out. The simple gesture stretched a smile onto the girl’s face. It was something she had never expected from him. Then again, everything about him was new to her.

The sound of the waves filled the silence between them, the words unsaid dancing between them. It wasn’t uncomfortable but they were both itching to speak. Yet no words seemed good enough or right enough.  

“So, what did you have in mind?” (Y/N) asked.

“Honestly. I didn’t think I would get this far,” he chuckled. “Don’t know what we could do.”

“Well then, we could start with a round of twenty questions,” she offered. “Seeing as we’re still strangers to each other.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

They sat on a log of driftwood, ping-ponging questions back and forth. The questions were simple enough to begin with –favorite color, songs, food, etc.—as they established a natural flow to their conversation. Once the words had started spilling, the current moved swiftly. It was easy, it felt natural.

“Do you see yourself staying in Forks?”

(Y/N) thought for a moment. The town had always called to her. Although many would grow tired of the rain and the cold, she seemed to prefer it. But she had always been afraid she would feel stuck, just like her mother had.

“Honesty thing,” he said, stopping her rambling thoughts.

“I could,” she smiled softly. “As much as I would miss my mom and Phil, the spontaneity of living with them, and all that, living here –in small towns like these—it’s different. You don’t get a diner that knows your favorite food in a big city. You don’t get neighbors you’ve known your whole life or quiet walks around the woods either.”

“So, you’re planning on staying here, then?” Paul asked, a bright gleam filling his eyes. “Even after Bella gets better?”

“I think, it’s my turn to ask a question,” she laughed. “Unless you’re planning on forfeiting your last question with that.”

“Alright, this is your last question,” he smiled. “Choose wisely.”

“Why did you ask me to hang out if you didn’t have anything planned for us to do?”

“Honesty thing?”

He smiled at the phrase. It had become a prevalent sentence as they each answered questions. (Y/N) had been the first one to say it as she asked about his high school days. She’d asked him to go do the “honesty thing,” which he had laughed at. But she explained that if either of them said that question, the other would give a truthful answer.

“Honesty thing.”

“Didn’t think you would say yes.”

“Why not?”

He didn’t have a good enough reason to give her. There was Jake, but that was obvious. The unfortunate overbearing boyfriend that simply did not deserve her. But he couldn’t tell her that. He couldn’t bring himself to let her know that the universe had decided that they would be bonded for life, whether it was what they wanted or not. He didn’t want to bring her into the supernatural world and end up with a worse fate than her sister. She deserved the truth, but it was not something he could give her. At least, not yet.

“You know, the whole Jake thing,” he chose to answer. “He doesn’t seem to like me much, and the feeling’s mutual. Don’t think he’d be very happy if he knew we were together right now.”

“I don’t get why you two don’t like each other,” she muttered. “And I guess the whole ‘stay away from her’ deal won’t help to mend that.”

“Well…”

“I won’t get in the middle of that pissing party,” she laughed. “But I do want to know why you felt inclined to say that.”

“I could answer that, but is my turn to ask a question, is it not?” Paul joined her in laughter.

“Fine. Go ahead.”

“What do you see in Jacob?” he mumbled. “Honesty thing.”

And what could she say at that when she didn’t even know? She had liked him since she knew what that meant. He was the boy that had first made her feel butterflies in her stomach. The first boy she wanted to kiss, to hug, to be as close as possible. She just didn’t know why.

Jacob had always been there. Every single summer, he was a constant in her life and he’d somehow made his way into her heart. One second he was just her friend, and the other he was just there. And she believed he always would be.

“I guess it was simply inevitable,” she breathed. “We basically grew up together. We’ve shared so many moments and experiences that I guess it was the natural way of things.”

“You’re saying it just happened then? No actual reason to be with him?”

“I don’t know. I’ve never thought of it before,” she sighed. “He’s always been kind and charming. He’s a good guy with a good heart. Maybe that’s what I see in him.”

“Hm,” was all Paul could answer.

“What?” (Y/N) chuckled questioningly. “What, Paul?”

“Not my place to say,” he said gazing into her eyes. He stared at the way the orange sun painted her face with a graceful glow, the way her hair danced around her face with the wind, the way he’d mouth stretched into a perfect smile. “But to answer why I felt inclined to tell Jake to stay away from you, it’s because he doesn’t deserve someone like you.”

“And who is someone like me?”

“You’re selfless, you’re compassionate, you’re everything he is not, (Y/N),” he told her. “You really are a good person with a good heart.”

“How could you know that, Paul? You’ve known me no more than a couple of hours.”

“You left your whole life behind to be with your sister while she’s going through a hard time. You’ve been taking care of your dad at the same time as keeping your mom sane with everything that’s been going on with Bella,” he counted. “You even told me how your mom almost took away your license when you started to drive because you crashed a car to avoid hitting some rabbits. I don’t know of many people that would do that.”

“And Jacob doesn’t deserve someone like that?”

“Maybe someone like that,” he responded as his stare grew serious. “But not you.”

(Y/N) didn’t know what the feeling that was growing in her meant. She could feel a comforting warmth filling her body, embracing her fears and her worries. She knew she should have defended Jacob. Told Paul all the good qualities her boyfriend had and what it was that she loved about him. Yet, the words felt stuck in her throat and they refused to come out.

“Are you hungry?” (Y/N) blurted. “I could go for some food right now.”

“(Y/N)…”

“Aren’t you hungry?”

Paul looked into her eyes and saw just how desperate she was to change the topic. She was being faced with some realities she did not want to think of and it had been because of him. He was making her question things she would have never done so.

But he knew it was torturing her. He could feel it. “There’s a good place down the street we could go to,” he said instead. “I am hungry as well.”

“Alright, let’s go there then.”

first, those arts are fucking GORJUS my sweettums. as someone who has lost the ability to draw, that is beautiful. i used to think of becoming a free style painter or to learn how to draw digital but somewhere along the way i just gave up and decided to simply settle on writing instead. even now, when i see art tiktok or recommendations of compilation videos on yt, i feel a bit of an ache in my chest. its just there, y’know?

second, i think you should do for it. maybe try opening up an account on a platform ur incredibly familiar with. perhaps tumblr? or even ig? or even tiktok works too! just any platform you feel safe and comfortable and know how to navigate is good.

and yeah, i can def say felt to the “it will make my mental health worse if i only get 2 likes or smt” bc same same same. i try to write good and capture the characters’ personality correctly while keeping the fic ‘alive’ only to end up with like,,,, hundreds of likes but no feedbacks or reposts or smt LMAOOO

as for a single tip i would give is to expect everything. not everyones going to like ur content and they will suddenly crash into ur inbox talking abt how they hated this fic or smt of yrs bc it was disgusting or not their thing. that has happened to me like,,,, 3 times???? i think?????? and and!!! be sure to do a bit of research beforehand, me thinks. see what kind of attention you would get when u start to post on ur page or account.

i didnt expect anyone to actually see my reblog so i’m going to explain what i’m actually doing for anyone that wants a more detailed tip. maybe it helps someone like me?

it relies on two apps: a blocking app and a task planner app.

blocking (needs to be hard to disable):

i set time limits that let me know how long i use the app and locks it for 15 minutes.

i lock certain apps so i can only open them a given amount of times for a set time.

i create blocking sessions where most of my apps are locked so i can focus on what i need to be doing - or sleep.

planning:

write down how long it takes you to do things so you can tell when you are stress over an impossible schedule.

combine blocking sessions to the tasks you have to do so you can actually focus on them.

divide your tasks/to do list in smaller steps— helps visualize how long you need to take, gives you motivation every time you check that small step even if you dont finish the whole task.

have alarms to remind you to take breaks to prevent burn out — pomodoro technique.

i started these habits because i was struggling with controlling time blindness, procastination, forgetting my body needs while hyperfixated and revenge bedtime procastination, all adhd symptoms that ended up with me needing antidepressants.

my qualifications to give this advice are: i did them and they worked for me —or at least improved my life significantly.

for all of this to work the most important thing is a change in mindset. you need to look at where you are right now, what habits are stopping you to reach your goals and where you could be right now if you stopped them and if you dont like the picture that makes, you need the strenght and will to put in the effort to change it.

dont do this because you should, do this because you want to improve your life. you also dont have to change every single habit, just by improving on one small habit you are already better than you were yesterday. you still improved yourself. be kind to yourself with your progress, but keep progressing.

these habits might not all work for you, but maybe they will and i feel like that makes it worth it to give it a read.

to block apps i use opal: (time blindness)

opal has a really fucking annoying way to turn off the limit and it’s even worse if you pay the app or combine with the phone’s own restrictions. it has block, lock and time limit options which you can schedule and even create blocking sessions.

for any app that is addicting and makes me loose track of time, like tiktok or ao3, i have daily time limits which variate from weekdays to weekends (shorter on weekends because with free time i lose track even more).

these time limits only purpose is strictly to make me aware of how long i actually spent on the app, not to stop me completely to use them, so after say 1h-45m of using it i get locked out for 15 minutes only. i can still access them back how many times as i want during the day, i just get stopped after a long period to be able to 1. realize how much time has been and 2. stop and think— do i need to go to the bathroom? am i hungry? did i leave the stove on? was i in the middle of a task before getting distracted?

on purely entertainment apps (like games), or apps i get painfully obsessive about (tiktok again) i have locks. what this does is it gives you a set amount of “unlocks” allowed on the days you set and you can make them last whatever long you want. once you ran out of unlocks, that’s when you get blocked out until tomorrow.

this makes you aware of how many times you actually open those apps, works by either making you self aware/guilty (yes i am unlocking tiktok for the 7th time today so what) or by making you conscious of your available time to mess around (do i really want to open tiktok now for a quick bathroom break or should i save the unlock for later?).

if you unlock the app you can freely access it for the unlocked time, so if you unlock it and don’t use it you lose a chance to unlock it later, so for that reason my unlocking times tend to be really small but i give myself a lot of them. for example, i can open tiktok 15 times on the weekends, but only on ten minutes periods. thats still 2 and a half hours of tiktok screen time but i tend to use only five of them.

finally i have blocking sessions to sleep, study or work. these can be either be scheduled or created by a shortcut widget or a focus mode on iphone (think do not disturb on steroids). these go hand in hand with that planning bit of the apps. basically for any time where i have to study or just focus in general i start a blocking session. i also use it to block the apps when it goes from “sleeping late” to “you have no excuse here” (2:30-5am).

i put almost every not actually useful app or website on a blocklist and while the session is on i can’t open any of them without going directly to opal. if i go to the app i have to wait five seconds to just make any edits (you can get longer wait with timeout mode and harder if you pay). you can also combine it with password protecting the app, getting it off the home screen so its harder to find, etc. you can even block opal during your blocking session to prevent you from disabling it.

i can instead of disabling the whole thing, have “breaks” of any time i choose that would automatically block the ups again after they’re done. if i have to send an important text to my mom, or check the file a friend sent me, or whatever, i can take a five minute break to do so and the apps would automatically lock again so i dont get distracted doing anything else on my now unblocked apps.

to plan my day and tasks i use sunsama: (procastination)

i am milking those no card needed 14 day free trial, but it is expensive so you can use ticktick(?), notion, xtiles, just regular calendar/notes, evernote, theres a bunch online. basically somewhere you will actually check to put everything you need to do every single day, even dumb things, specially in as many small tasks as you can (think finding recipe, preparing ingredients, make meal 1, make meal 2, leave dishes ready to be washed, eat, do dishes instead of “cooking/eating” —make its easier to contextualize time and seems more approachable doing a bunch of short time tasks getting the dopamine boost of checking them on the list than one big tasks where you can forget the details).

what i like about sunsama in particular is three things: actual/planned time, pomodoro timer, and pushing tasks forwards.

the actual/planned time is single handedly fixing my time blindness. basically every time you go add a task it encourages you to write how long you think the task will take, then when you finally write every tasks of the day it will tell you how many hours worth of work you have planned to do, and if its healthy or not. a lot of the times that i got stressed because i didnt do most of what i planned its because i didnt realize i was planning a 25hs long schedule —i physically couldn’t do that much work on a single day.

then every time you start the task, you can start the timer so you can actually visually see how long it takes you to complete that task, and in the future when you try creating similar tasks it will recommend a similar time frame. combine that with pomodoro technique of focusing and your blocking session breaks and suddenly you are aware of how long time is (get awareness of how time passes and what 10 minutes feel like), how long it takes you to get things done (plan your days more effectively— prevent the “i can’t do anything because i have an appointment in five hours”), how much time has passed since you started the task (prevent hyperfixation), a way to stop you of getting distracted from actually doing what you set out to do.

if you plan obsessively enough, it can push you to start the tasks when you planned them to because you already planned your week (maybe) so you know you wont have time later because the other tasks (soft deadlines to kickstart the adhd go mode! — prevent procrastination as you already know you have prepared the actual time it will take for you to get that task done and to do it you have to start it now).

the pomodoro technique involves 25 min of work with 5min breaks —every three sets of 25 min of work take a longer break of 15min-30min. to the usual complains i say that in my personal opinion:

it made starting tasks feel less daunting.

prevented burnout from hyperfixating and ignoring my body’s needs.

makes it easier to stick to a task for longer when i know in just a couple more minutes i will get that break.

boosted my efficiency as i try to finish before the timer goes off.

you can adjust it to your needs: make it 45min of work with 10 min breaks, dont take the 5 min break —just set the timer so every 25 minutes you get a reminder to drink water, go to the bathroom, hey you have been at this for five hours maybe do take the break now.

for me it doesnt tend to break the flow/focus mode because the five minutes are usually just barely enough time for me to go to the bathroom and refill my drink. maybe answer one (1) text. it isn’t like with neurotypicals where they either dont see these as breaks or don’t need to be reminded to do them.

i combine this technique with the 5 minutes breaks of my blocking sessions, so i can’t get distracted while getting shit done and it feels easier knowing i wont be completely locked in while doing it thanks to the breaks. i also write on a paper to keep track of how many pomodoros i have done, and keep a “parking lot” empty paper to write down any idea or task or to do i thought that i can later add to my tasks list and dont forget it.

the final thing i like about sunsama is that it doesnt leave unfinished tasks behind, so anything you dont accomplish today it will push it into tomorrow schedule so you can still see what you need to get done. many others leave the tasks behind so you have to scroll to find any missed tasks and then i just never do them.

the cons on all of this for the sake of transparency:

needing to stay consistent turning on those blocking sessions or not finding alternatives to your blocked apps.

being honest and blocking or limiting everything that will distract you (i barely used to use tumblr, now its my most used app because it has the loosest restrictions and bypasses my sleeping block. i know this— i still havent restricted it more. i am ignoring my dangerous non sleeping time frame to post this.)

being so restricted on my usage is pushing me a bit into revenge sleep procastination. i went from 14hs of screen time daily down to 7hs and im struggling to adjust to it. hence tumblr or looking for alternatives to catch up on missed “free time”.

i still tend to overschedule myself into impossible timelines, which makes me ignore the pomodoro breaks causing stress on my body and burning out, keep until i finish the tasks despite going widly off planned time, making me go to bed later and pushing more tasks onto tomorrow’s packed schedule.

the last two are connected. because i want to finish the task quickly and ignore the breaks, i dont actually have the free time to mess around while doing the tasks and i want to catch up on that missed time while on bed.

however, i went from not studying at all (im an university student) to studying 40+ hours in the last couple of days, divided my screen time by two, went to class, meal prep so i can actually eat during the week, drink more water. its a work in progress but baby, im progressing.

When I use technology to gain ideas, I use social media like Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube. When opening up Instagram, I tend to watch reels. Some are life-changing, while others are a distraction. Thus, I attempt to brush away the distracting posts and change my feed by viewing/liking/commenting aesthetic posts that would motivate to become a better version of myself. For Youtube, I try to watch aesthetic videos like tips, desk makeover, or room decor. This would make my youtube feed represent my dream life. That does not mean I only watch these types of videos, I also watch gaming content. However, as soon as I finish watching them, I delete them of my history so that the algorithm won't change my feed. I assort the aesthetic videos by the type into different playlists. Tiktok is also a great resource prominent for finding out innovations that transform your creativity at an unexpected rate. For example, you watched a video how to tie your shoe quicker, without needing to search it up. It just pops up randomly in your page, which helps you to remember it more. However, it's also a huge enemy for mindless scrolling. That's why I use the TikTok search page to explore those "aesthetic" ideas that I like to see. Not to forget Pinterest, it's a fantastic app. There is unlimited ideas for you to obtain, that fits your best interests. As soon as you save a pin, there will be multiple posts that relates to the saved pin.

· He deadass ignored you for a week like if he saw you, he would turn into Houdini and disappear

Dorian and Basil first interact through insta comments because Dorian was one of the first people to put a genuinely nice comment on Basil’s post.

Eventually they get to talking in dms and turns out they both live in the same area so they decide to meet up

Dorian has sent Basil photos of himself and Basil’s like “oh god im going to be catfished so hard but i wanna believe”

They meet at like a starbucks or something

Dorian is a bitch for a pumpkin spice latte. Basil just orders a black coffee

Henry’s Basil’s friend from when they were 7 (they met at a high school gathering type thing that both their fathers attended)

As laid out in the other post, Henry has a million different burner accounts he uses for all kinds of things but most often it’s trolling the the form of a moral dilemma

Henry never participates in fandom discourse or flame wars because even though it would totally be his area of expertise he doesn’t understand the appeal. Dorian, on the other hand, is in every fandom discourse thread

Dorian’s youtube watch history before meeting Henry is mostly to do with classical piano/orchestra (he would love twosetviolin). After, it’s half fashion/beauty videos and half conspiracy/occult videos.

Henry’s watch history is an enigma. He will watch anything remotely problematic just as more fuel for his trolling schemes.

Basil’s watch history is a lot of speedpaints, art tips, and long-form video essays.

Dorian’s insta and tiktok famous

In a timeline where Basil and Dorian get together, they run a couple’s account on insta but each of their photos inexplicably has Henry somewhere in the background to the point where they had to clarify “no, he’s not stalking us. He’s just constantly third-wheeling even when we tell him not to.”

Basil can cook a pretty good meal and is pretty proud of that. Henry cannot cook anything but he can make some mean brownies and Basil does NOT want to know why he can make brownies so well. Dorian cannot cook to save his life, he will burn himself making a smoothie.

Dorian is a weeb and he has cosplayed Todoroki.

Henry graduated Uni with honors with a double major in chemistry and philosophy (my own hc) while also being the guy who appeared at every scheduled party and even some that weren’t.

Basil and Henry once, at 4 am delirious from a collective 2 hours of sleep over the past 72 hours, wrote the most disgusting and smuttiest crackfic ever (about who idk but think along the lines of those Obama x shrek fics) and it still lives somewhere on Basil’s computer never to be opened again if Basil can so help it. Mostly it was Henry writing it while Basil had his head in his hands but every once in a while Basil came up with an idea that made the fic so much worse.

Sibyl is in her last year of Uni (a small university with full scholarship and top of her class) working on a theater major when she meets Dorian.

Sibyl has her own small youtube channel with like 10 followers where she posts herself practicing and little moments with her fellow cast members.

She drops out of school to be with Dorian but.. ya know 😬

5 Tips for Fast Drafting from a New York Times Bestselling Author

NaNoWriMo is basically an exercise in fast drafting: getting as much of the first draft of the story as you can on the page as quickly as possible. Today, bestselling author J. Elle is here to share some pro tips for fast drafting: My first middle grade novel took me nine days to write. 

The first draft was about 40,000 words or so. And yes, it needed to be revised before it sold to a publisher. But the meat of the story was on the page in just over a week’s time. I’d never drafted anything quite that fast before. Within a single month I’d written an entire novel, revised it a couple times and readied it for sale. A few months later that novel sold at auction and will be on shelves May 2022. 

I still look back on this feat with a bit of shock and awe. To date I’ve sold five novels to major publishers, two young adult, two middle grade and one non fiction and my experience fast drafting has forever altered the way I approach writing. I should mention, fast drafting isn’t for everyone. Writing is such a personal thing and each storyteller has their own process, but in the event getting the first draft out is the biggest hurdle for you, like it is for me, I’m going to share five tips for knocking out that first draft in record time. 

1. Start with a SHORT story pitch.

Pitching a story in a few words is tough. But it’s a worthy effort and the best use of your time before you get any words on the page. Why? Because it helps you hone in on the core of your story and its hook. A good short pitch involves the character, their dilemma, and a hint of the stakes. In October of 2018 I pitched my YA debut novel in a tweet which then blew up. Not many words can fit in a tweet, but by choosing the right set of words, I was able to convey the heart of my story and it really resonated. (From that tweet, I signed with a literary agent and sold my debut novel to a Big 5 publisher in a six-figure-deal.) The biggest favor you can do for yourself is understand the story—its essence, its core—you’re trying to tell before you start drafting. And that’s hard. But the more you play around with creating a short pitch, you’ll begin to see a clear snapshot of what your book is going to be about. That’s your jumping off point. 

2. Expand your pitch into tent pole beats.

From your short pitch, spend some time deciding on what your major beats are. Now, yes this is a bit like outlining. And for you pantsers out there, I empathize with you. I was a pantser and still am in many ways. But I still do this step because this step ultimately saves me time. The beauty of fast drafting is that you know what you need to do when you sit down to type. So a lot of these steps are about doing pre-work so that when you sit down to type you’re not spinning your wheels to figure out what to type. Instead you’ll have a clear goal and you’ll be ready to execute it. Also, note that the goal isn’t to perfect each of these steps, but instead to try to do each step, to the best of your ability, and in a way that makes sense. 

I could write an entire piece on beat sheeting novels (which I love and do for all my books), but for the purposes here, I’ve organized the main things you want to know below in a series of questions. Simply answer each, make a chart if you like that sort of thing, and once you have each question filled out in a way that logically makes sense, move on to the next step. (NOTE: It’s a good idea to get feedback on this step if you have critique partners and fellow writers you trust.)  

Opening Scene - Who is the character before the world changes?

Inciting Incident - What happens that forces them to make a choice, changing their lives forever? What are they choosing between? 

“A” Plot - What is that choice they make? What are they pursuing or working toward? Finding information? Going on a quest? Uncovering the truth behind a murder?

Stakes - What are the stakes of the “A” plot? What’s at risk if they fail to accomplish whatever they’re pursuing? It should be something that personally affects them or someone / something they care about. 

“B” Plot / Character - Who or what is the theme of the story? What character in your story is going to embody that theme and play a key role in helping the main character change?

Midpoint - what happens in the middle of the book to change the character’s direction. Usually it’s some bit of new information or they realize things are not as they seem. 

Stakes Raise - How do the stakes (what’s at risk if they fail) raise after the middle of the book? 

Character Arc - what does your character believe about the world in the beginning of the book that by the book’s end they will no longer believe? (An extension of this question is: what things can happen in this character’s life to facilitate them incrementally learning this big truth? If you don’t know this question right off, that’s okay. But this is a question you want to go back to every now and again, even after you finish the first draft, to ensure your character is actively involved in a plot that is resulting in their change.)

Failure - How will your character fail big? This happens at about the 75% point of the book and it's the final moment of failure, usually, before they pick themselves up off the ground (figuratively or literally) and learn the lesson they’ve needed to learn. There forward they act on their new belief to the end of the book, demonstrating how they’re changed.

3. Flesh out your beats into a detailed synopsis. 

Now the fun part! This step is the most helpful thing you can do to enable yourself to fast draft. 

Write a mini version of your story, also known as a detailed synopsis. The key to writing synopses is not to worry about the voice, but instead what happens. Try to convey what happens and its impact on the character to show how the story moves from tent pole moment to tent pole moment (per the step above). This takes some trial and error and you may get annoyed with yourself because it’s not as easy as it seems. But, I’ve seen that if you can write a compelling and cohesive synopsis, the draft that you execute will be far stronger and more efficiently executed. 

Definitely get beta feedback on your synopsis from writing friends you trust. It’s worth going over this a few times to get it right. In terms of length, aim for 3-4 pages for a middle grade novel and 5-10 pages for a young adult or adult novel. These are just general guidelines. My latest YA novel required a fifteen page synopsis and I am very glad I did it because it conveys the tone, arc, and plot of the novel and the main plot threads quite well, which allowed me to draft the first 23,000 words of the story in five days. 

4. Summarize each scene. 

(Note: a chapter can have more than one scene.)

Okay, we’re getting really close to writing! Now that you have a mini version of your story, consider how you will break it up into scenes. This doesn't need to be perfect, but spend some time figuring how to stretch your synopsis into a full novel. Give each scene a short summary. Aim for a few sentences, no more than a paragraph, just so you know what needs to happen in that scene (or scenes). Do not skip this step. I repeat, do not skip this step. This step allows you to sit down and execute the scene without figuring out what to write. The “figuring out” part is where a lot of writers slow down. Do that in the summaries so when it’s time to draft you are ready to execute, not sort out details. 

5. Write with a goal in mind.

Plan your writing days. I’m not talking anything extensive here. Just grab your phone calendar or a post-it note and write down which days you want to do which scenes. Then on writing day re-read that summary and execute it. If you’ve done all the pre-work the words will fly from your fingers. Don’t worry about grammar, typos, reading back what you did. Insert fillers such as, “TITLE” or “NAME” for details you haven’t worked out yet. Just get the scene that you’ve summarized out. The goal is to finish the draft. After that is when you make sure it all works together through revisions and fill in the details. Right now the goal is finishing the draft. It literally just needs to exist!
