Okay imma rant on main, this is informal so feel free to fact check me

There's this theory that early photography, since it occupied the same fuction in society as portrait paintings did, was not expected to be 'a depiction of actual reality' as it is today.

It was REALLY COMMON to just retouch pictures

Not just in the wacky 'victorians holding their own head' joke pictures they liked to do, but actual normal pictures.

There's this book titled “A Complete Treatsie on the Art of Retouching Photographic Negatives” (the title is even longer but i can't be bothered to type it all out, I am sleepy) 

Anyways, the book implies that if you did get your photo taken at a studio, as was often done, retouching was straight up standart part of the process. It was Expected.

You see all victorian’s smooth skin? Lies. Well, not lies, more like ✨ Illusion ✨

(yes this is the first man that apeared when I looked up Victorian Portrait, what of it?)

This smoothing was done by actual manipulation of lighting, exposure, but could also be done after the photograph was done with pencil, pen, or even by scraping it. Hell, even body shape could be altered, tho this was more common in the Edwardian period as oposed to the Victorian one:

So what I want to say, is that just cause it looks old it doesn’t mean it’s “more natural” or “more backwards”, however you want to look back. Textured skin has always existed, fat bodies have always existed, most women did not tighlace to hell and back. 

They rendered their pictures just as we do. That’s all.

One of my favourite hc's I like to world-build is the idea that Lucien belongs to a super exclusive scholarly society.

It sounds dorky, but stay with me on this. This society holds access to powerful, protected texts long thought to be lost or forgotten. But the catch with this is that members are not able to use that knowledge for personal gain

There is no straight forward way to join. Instead, the group—or perhaps, the magic that binds the knowledge and rules within the society itself—chooses its members. Anyone can be selected—whether they are a high fae or lesser—because the magic doesn’t care about status; it cares about the worthiness of the individual to protect texts and their ability to contribute to the base of knowledge.

I imagine that Lucien was chosen by the magic when he was fairly young. I think that Lucien likely never told anyone about this, except perhaps Jesminda.

There is a way for Fae outside of the society to gain access to the protected texts, and that's through a bargain. The bargain that is required comes at a high price. Its never more than what a fae is able to offer but it's enough that most do not attempt it for fear of the cost required. Even more, the scholar summoned by the bargain can still choose to deny whether to provide the information if they find the seeker unworthy.

Now imagine, the HL's are in dire straits and decide to bargain with the scholars for information from a powerful text, then boom Lucien shows up like, whats good y'all??

Texture: Does your oc favor any specific kinds of cloth or textiles?

WELL on account of the faun he doesn't really wear clothes... The exception is in winter, because it's just not realistic to think he can stay warm otherwise, but he kind of hates it?? The place he grew up is close enough to the equator that their winters weren't harsh at all, so he never needed to bundle up. After leaving though, and especially after heading north.... he does not like the cold. He would favor wool and other thicker, warmer fabrics for that reason, but still dislikes the feeling of it on his skin and also just the feeling of being confined and hidden beneath some fuckin fabric. Faun nudity wins.

Change: Has your oc ever drastically changed their appearance?

Not drastically. He's gotten tattoos, but even the bigger ones aren't something incredibly significant in their presence- fauns get lots of tattoos. He's never gotten a significant haircut and that's a thing for a reason. Milo doesn't like change. In any aspect. So it makes sense that he keeps himself looking much the same. He likes how he looks, he found what works and keeps doing it. Any change is subtle and slow. Accumulatory. Tattoos and scars and jewelry.

This is all because someone said that tim being wealthy DOES impact his character. Like the ppl in the screenshot are defending the idea that tim should be written as middle class and even claimed that plot points about/made possible or exacerbated by his wealth have nothing to do with his characterization bc they’re plot points and not character traits. They also previously said there’s little to no mention of his wealth whilst also trying to say his wealth doesn’t matter because it’s just “new money” (which I’d argue adds a LOT of context to the drakes vs the Waynes but that’s into analysis territory and I’m not getting into with someone who said plot points don’t impact the character 💀)

Anyways the main point of the post isn’t just to clown on them I just want y’all to take that final tweet into account; “They come and take only what they want, they don’t like to delve into the great character that is Tim.” On a post saying Tim being rich doesn’t matter and has nothing to do with his character. Not a single photo of food, not a single photo of wine, not a single photo of me with anyone, not a single photo of the guests together or who came, not a single photo taken for social or for myself to prove the day even happened

Just a fleeting moment burnt out like a joyful ember filled with food, music, and people spending time together

I like to think that makes it a successful party
