Hii🙈🙈 do you perhaps have any bart and wally comic recs? I want to read more of them both but I can't find any reading orders or a jumping off point besides barts debut. Thank yew in advance💝
Here is a reading guide, I am doing this mostly by memory and looking at my own reading list/notes on their relationship, so I know I am not hitting every single comic they appear in together, but it's still pretty comprehensive imo. They start off VERY rocky, but once Bart becomes Kid Flash things between them are written less grating as they come to an understanding of each other and respect each other more.
Note: this is all pre-Flashpoint and these issues focus on their interactions/feelings between each other, a lot of it pretty caustic. Some issues might have only one panel, others many pages.

hii linden! i kinda needed some help
so, i wanna read some comics based on:
donna troy, cass cain and wally west
but i have literally noo idea where to start 😭 ofc ik the basics but i was hoping you could suggest something?? thank you so much if you do and have a wonderful day!
yeah i gotchu!! those are literally my besties lol i can definitely give you some recs. i'm not sure what you'd consider to be the basics so i'll just include all the big stuff to be thorough
donna troy:
first rec is always new teen titans as you probably would have guessed lol. it is a very long and arduous undertaking though so some more specific recs would be vol. 1 #38, #50, vol. 2 #18-21, #50-55.
i've gone into more detail on her appearances in darkstars, green lantern etc but honestly though they are important to understand the status quo & what was going on with her, i don't think they're very good comics to just read for donna. my next rec would probably be wonder woman (1987) #126-136, which is a VERY important arc for her. it goes into more detail on her origin, reconnects her to the amazons & diana, and i believe is where she officially passes on the wonder girl mantle to cassie. and she appears frequently throughout the rest of that wonder woman run after the arc if you want to continue on!
titans (1999) is another big one, beloved beloved comic. lots of good donna content.
titans/young justice: graduation day #1-3 YIKES! unfortunately pivotal to her story lol
dc special: the return of donna troy look. i know I gush about this comic like it's my full time job. but honest to god i adore it to pieces, it's a love letter to donna and her history and it's one of my favorite comics of all time despite only being 4 issues. begging everyone on the planet to read it rn
cass cain:
cass was famously introduced in batman: no man's land! now that event is very very long so it might seem tempting to skip straight to bg 2000 but i'm here to tell you to not do that. if nothing else it is PIVOTAL that you read her introduction issues (mark of cain pts 1 & 2), batman #567 and detective comics #734. probably the coolest most metal introduction of any comics character in history, it's that good. if you're interested in cass's role in nml but not the whole thing, here's a list of her appearances:
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #120
Azrael: Agent of the Bat #56
Azrael: Agent of the Bat #57
Batman Chronicles #18
Batman #569
Detective Comics #738
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #124
Batman: Shadow of the Bat #92
Detective Comics #739
Batman: Shadow of the Bat #93
Azrael: Agent of the Bat #60-61
Detective Comics #741
i think nml is essential reading for cass and it makes me sad that a lot of people skip it.
next is, of course, batgirl (2000). it's her character bible it's god's (kelley puckett's) gift to mankind it's maybe the best comic ever written. what more can i say
she's also a fixture in gotham knights! cass was a part of most batfamily events in the early 2000s, ex. officer down, joker's last laugh, war games, bruce wayne: murderer? and bruce wayne: fugitive. it's pretty easy to find them since they mostly cross over with her batgirl run.
detective comics #790 is only one issue but it's. ough.
aaaaand then we get into the evil cass arc stuff which just sucks and isn't worth it. she's pretty much written out of the story for a while, other than red robin #17 & #25.
she does show up as black bat in gates of gotham! i really enjoy that story, and it's only 5 issues.
that gets us to new52. i would completely disregard her rebirth and batgirls appearances honestly. she is a part of the current birds of prey ongoing! and while i am not kelly thompson's biggest fan i do think she gets a lot of cool moments and for the most part she's done right.
she is also featured sporadically throughout ram v's gotham nocturne storyline (it started way back in detective comics #1062 if you want to read the whole arc, it's VERY good). i have to give a special shoutout to #1084, which has a backup story that's focused on cass and it legitamately blew my mind. like i couldn't believe my eyes when i was reading it, maybe it's because cass has been done so dirty over the years that anything makes me happy but to get a cass-centric story featuring shiva that cares about her as a character in 2024 was crazy 2 me i will rave about it forever. thank you alex paknadel.
wally west:
the good news is my wally reclist is WAY less complicated. as is predictable for me, pretty much the only wally rec I have is flash volume 2 (1987). it is for all intents and purposes The Story of Wally West tm. it's his character bible it follows him throughout nearly a decade of his life. because it's so long my specific rec would be to read waid's run on it, from #62-142. if you want more context to his life at the time you can start earlier in the comic, i think #31 is a good jumping on point if you want to experience some messner-loebs but not too much messner-loebs lmfao.
he's featured in titans (1999) until about issue #20, iirc. wally is just fated to quit titans teams lol. there is some good stuff with him up until that point though!
that is honestly about all i got until you get to more modern flash comics. after rebirth he's reintroduced in flash vol. 5, and #768-800 is the jeremy adams run.
he's also the main focus in si spurrier's flash vol. 6! aka the current flash ongoing. which... as i have often said, i am a big fan of.
AND THAT’S MY LIST!!! i hope it helped you out at least a little lol!

Today is day 2 of Trigun Fanfiction Appreciation Week & with it, another rec list.
Gen AUs
Geranium Dreams by the_13th_battalion, rated T
Tangled AU where Vash is Rapunzel, WW is Flint & Conrad is Mother Gothel. Oh! And we can't forget the MVP: Kuroneko as Pascal!
promise of an ending by Altered_Karma, rated T
Although it does take elements from Tangled (re: locked in the tower!) it doesn't follow the movie's storyline. Instead, the author adds magical elements that don't involve long hair & another form of conflict. There's even fanart for this on twt.
Daylight (You Got Me Cursing The Daylight) by Sblurg, rated E
A Violet Evergarden AU we never asked for but absolutely needed. Full of angst & hurt/comfort that gives its inspo a run for its money.
Otherworldly by WarriorNun, rated M
Pacific Rim AU with its own dashes of worldbuilding & despite the apocalyptic setting it implies, has its share of comedic & slice-of-life moments.
The Courtship of Nicholas D Wolfwood by @screamingshark, rated M
Another fic I want to absolutely devour. A Modern AU where Plants are Mers. The author does a wonderful job of writing their courting rituals & culture in gen as well as plot twists & cliffhangers that drive you nuts. You can find fanart for it on their acc & some @poibeansart.
And Still Have Wings (with which to fly) by @alpha-hydra, rated E
Shape of Water AU where WW goes from fugitive/con-artist/former assassin to janitor & upon meeting Vash, is willing to go back to being a fugitive again if it means freedom. There's also fanart.
Show the symbol on your chest by @somereaderinblue, rated G
For a tiny bit of self-promotion a Superhero AU, more specifically a Teen Titans AU where Meryl is Robin, Milly is Starfire, WW is Beast Boy, Livio/Razlo is Cyborg & Vash is Raven. No knowledge of TT is necessary.
Tesla fics
cross my heart and hope to die by beelzebby666 & Lightning Rod by @needle-noggins, rated M
Both these fics explore the fact that Tristamp Elendira has Tesla's eye. They were done during Trigun Body Horror Week so heed the tags.
Happy by Plumerias_of_BlueMaroon, rated M
A heartbreaking Tesla POV. We know how this story goes, we know how it ends. We're simply seeing this story through her eyes & it's no less tragic. As someone who's studied child development, having to read this child look at how so many treat her & wonder 'What did I do wrong?' brings another level of hurt.
There Are Differences Between Our Hearts by Marley_Millions, rated T
Another Tesla POV fic where she expresses her frustrations to her sisters, the only ones who always listen to her through it all.
Run Red River (Run Home and Back Again) by PSIDontKnow, rated T
Tesla tears reality asunder for one simple reason: to find a universe where she is loved instead of martyred.
chrysanthemum by schrodingers__cat, rated T
The humans took many things from Tesla. Her autonomy, her body, her freedom, the concept of love, happiness & acceptance that didn't come with hurting. The only thing she wants back is her chance to be an older sister.
the half-extinguished light by reclamation, rated T
I accidentally discovered this fic while checking out their pfp & became intrigued by the Frankenstein concept. After reading it, I can't help but wonder who the true monster is. Is it Tesla/Vash? Is it Nai, who will soon become Millions Knives? Or maybe even Rem & Conrad, who were accomplices.
trouble comes in threes by @corgiss, rated T
TIME FOR SOME TESLA LIVES AUS! Here, we have them being NML's weird desert cryptids disaster siblings. There's also this fanart.
Sun, Moon, and Stars by @wendywhite13, rated T
Another Tesla Lives AU where Rem puts her foot down on day 1, causing a domino effect. This world is kinder, but it's still full of social & political challenges the family has to navigate through together.
Purple Hyacinth AU by @somereaderinblue, rated T & G
My own Age-Reversal + Role Swap AU where Tesla lives because in this world, she was born last while Vash was born first.
VW fics
sex shop/mortician by @sascake, rated E & M
As the title implies, Vash owns a sex shop, WW is a mortician & they have kids. It's always interesting to see Vash with jobs other than a baker or florist in a modern AU.
Eye to Eye by severalspoons, rated T
Reminder that for all his goofiness, Vash is the most perceptive character in-universe. Despite this, he chooses to love someone with a mask just as ironclad as his own.
Tomas Fried Rice by InkedEntropy, rated G
VW cook fried rice together, and then Vash cooks it alone.
My Body's Moving Into Retrograde by Sacramental_Wine, rated E.
Vash never hesitates to give his love & body, WW makes him receive it for once.
The Wall by Dezace, rated T
Canon-divergence wherein Knives captures Vash the Stampede decades before canon, allowing him to meet WW before he became the Punisher.
upon broken wings by maxxstrom, rated E
If I had a nickel for everytime I found a VW fic where they met as EoM captives, I'd have two nickels. Not a lot, but it's happened twice. Unlike the prev fic, this is a world where Vash stayed with Knives, never becoming the Stampede. However, this means he meets a WW who's yet to hit cynicism rock-bottom. Vash becomes WW's saint & he in turn becomes Vash's salvation.
And that's all I have for day 2. Hope you enjoy the fics & leave a kudo/comment for the respective author, have it be on AO3 or Tumblr. I wish all my fellow Trigun fans/artists/writers a good time!

I so badly want to get into your DC au but i know absolutely nothing about DC.
I grew up on marvel lol
dfgghcgd that’s oki! i actually grew up on both marvel and dc cuz of my dad through watching movies and started just kinda getting deeper into on my own
my au isn’t completely loyal to dc canon, im basically just doing whatever i want like an elseworld story basically, i pull from different continuities, mix with sonic lore and force it all to bend to my will
if you want to go thru my dc au have any questions about the lore, or what exactly is going on feel free to send an ask and i’ll be happy to clarify anything!!!
but if you want to get into dc id say is easiest through watching the animated shows, movies, like:
(some i may have pulled stuff from, some i haven’t just saying wchich ones i really liked)
- batman the animated series
- the batman
- superman the animated series
- superman vs the elite
- wonder woman (2009)
- wonder woman bloodlines
- justice league + the spin off justice league unlimited
- teen titans 2003
- batman beyond
- batman beyond return of the joker
- batman: under the red hood
- the batman vs dracula
- DCAU batman movies
- creature commandos (15+, gore)
etc.
just listing some off the top of my head lol, you can basically just shop around for the dc animated content u like cuz there’s SO much
id also highly recommend watching playthroughs of the Arkham Batman games!!! i watched those all the time as a kid and ive started playing through them myself and its sooo much fun!!!(ignore suicide squad kills the justice league)
not the biggest fan of dark superman stuff but i do enjoy watching Injustice and Injustice 2 play throughs gor the character banter
some live action movies/tv shows that i rlly enjoyed are:
-The batman (15+)
- the penguin (15+)
- christopher nolan batman trilogy
- christopher reeeves superman films
- batman and robin (its so cringe and its amazing)
- james gun suicide squad (15+)
- birds of prey (15+)
- the upcoming superman movie
as for comics the dc universe has rebooted soooo many times so you can kinda pick and choose, some standouts i really enjoyed recently were:
- batman hush
- red robin (2009 -2011)
- Arkham Asylum: A serious house on a serious earth (inspo for the arkham games and some really disturbing imagery, pretty psychological horror)
- Batman: The court of owls (there’s a motion comic too)
- Batman the long halloween
- poison ivy: cycle of life and death
- poison ivy: the virtuous cycle (body and plant horror, only enjoyed up to issue #9 tho, didn’t vibe with the rest)
- harleen
- harley quinn black white and red
- Catwoman: lonely city
- harley and ivy
- dc pride comics!!
- The boy wonder
- superman red & blue
and that’s about all i can think of off the top of my head!!! srry about the ramble but hope this was helpful!

Hihi idk if I can ask multiple of the questions on the list but I will.
1) favorite character to write about this year
2)current number of works in progress right now
(And a bonus because I’m curious)
3) favorite character from titans and why?
of course you can send multiple!!! I never mind getting multiple asks in one message
12. favourite character to write about this year
I had to think about this a little, because usually I say that my favourite character to write about is usually just whoever I am writing about at the moment (which, right now, is Jason Todd) - but I think my favourite character to write about this year has been Isaac Lahey from Teen Wolf. He is a character I discovered for the first time this year and I immediately fell in love with him. He is so much my type - his backstory of being abused immediately resonated with me, and I just love everything about his character in general. His caring and protective nature, his attitude and witty mouth, his softness - like when he sheds tears after realizing that he can take away the pain of an innocent animal. Oof. Fucking OOOOOF
It also doesn't hurt that he's fucking gorgeous. But actually, despite popular belief, I always find myself attracted to characters based on their character traits before their physical traits. Like with Isaac, when he first appeared on screen, I was like "who's this fucking guy?" - I wasn't like "omg pretty blond boy". I found myself going nuts over his looks after I fell in love with his wooby backstory, his fuckboy smirk, and his tsundere actions protecting his soft inner core.
I fucking love him, and writing about him (even in fics I have yet to finish and post) has been one of the highlights of my year.
fanfic end of the year asks - send me some?
18. current number of wips (works in progress)
This is such a difficult question for me to answer. Because if you count every single fic I have started and not yet finished, then it's like - 200. 300. Maybe more.
But for me personally, I don't consider works I have started but not yet finished as 'works IN PROGRESS' because I am not making an effort to actually progress them every single day. They are just - there. And I will make progress on them later when I am ready.
Works I am actually actively progressing: one.
(It's The Jaws of Life - as I have talked about on @sundrop-writes)
At any given time, the number of fics that I am actually actively working on, is always one - maaaaybe two at most. Because if I try to focus on any more than that, then I never get anything done. I know some people wonder how I post so consistently, and that is one of the big keys to it - I have to focus on working on one fic at a time, even if it feels a bit like homework sometimes. And I only abandon a fic partway through if it starts to completely stall out my brain and I get absolutely nothing done and I know that I can work better on something else (and usually when something else feels more inspiring to me).
So yeah - technically it's just one. But the works I have yet to finish or even just docs that I have opened and written down scraps of ideas for later - that is a fucking lot. Hundreds.
bonus: favourite character from Titans and why?
I thought this would be kind of obvious from my blog, but I will say it.
GAR!!!!!
MY GREEN BABEY BOOOOOOOOOY
I really love all the characters from Titans, and there's not a main character that I hate - tbh, unlike with other shows, there's not even a villain that I hate. I think that they're all really compelling and interesting to watch as villains, and with some of them (like Adamson and The Family) - I wish that they would have gotten to stick around longer and be evil for more episodes because I find them so interesting to watch.
But Gar is my favourite. He's actually the reason I started watching the show in the first place - because @nctzenkane sent me pictures of Ryan Potter and was like "there's this hot guy playing Beast Boy in a new Teen Titans adaptation and his whole bare ass was out" and I was like "... I've got time for naked man ass" (and while watching Titans, I got A LOT MORE OF IT THAN I EXPECTED. it was nice)
I came for naked man ass and I stayed for the amazing character analysis, intense emotional moments, delightful humor, and in depth themes about loss of identity and transformation at a time in my life when I really needed it most. And now Titans is my life blood and I have never felt more at home than I do when I watch the show
And Gar is a huge part of that for me. He's light hearted but he is using that to hide his pain - he always tries so hard to lift others up with optimism and brightness and laughter but so often others fail to do the same for him, he is the emotional stronghold of the team and never thanked for it, and I relate to him so fucking hardcore. And I just fell in love with him in so many ways
Though, like I said, I fucking love all the characters for so many reasons

Hello! Sending another ask because yeah, it did read as obnoxious and rude, but honestly, it wasn't supposed to be!! I just wanted to ask why you thought Brudick was worse than Sladick when Slade is a pedophile and that isn't me hating slade at all! It's a complex issue with his character, and it's good to be explored used against others, etc. I was just genuinely questioning why you were saying brudick was worse when Bruce has issues many many many issues, but he's not exactly (openly, at least) a pedophile and like they both groomed dick but one had his intentions open the other didn't. I'm not anti puritan etc. I loved fucked up complex relationships and I will admit my ask got lost in translation a bit!! So apologies but I'm just genuinely confused on why you think it's healthier than brudick!! And I do not see dick as Bruce's son cause I see em banging and even if I did they'd still be banging like that doesn't matter to me and I think pedophile is a strong word and again fictional characters but his intentions beliefs etc he still had sex with Tarra underage even if he didn't want to he did and in any other circumstances he would be on a list (and this is interesting kinda hot!!) But yeah again apologies
Hey anon! I'm gonna address this sentence by sentence because honestly, it sounds like you weren't even sure what your stance was.
1) I'm not saying that you hate slade. To answer your question (which I had already addressed in my original answer,) Brudick is worse because its all of the bad parts of Sladick, with the added bonus of actual grooming.
Let me reiterate. Slade did *not* groom Dick Grayson. Full stop. The *only* arguable part of that is from the 03 teen titans show, which is not a part of the *comics* canon. In the comics, they met each other when Dick was an adult. Anything they did after that point was two *adults* interacting- yes, there's a slight power imbalance, but Dick is incredibly capable and any imbalance would be negligible.
On the other hand, Bruce and Dick met when Dick was a child. Whether you subscribe to him being 8 or 13 or 16 when he became robin, what is relevant is that he was
A) actively reliant on Bruce for his well-being. He relied on Bruce for his housing, his finances, and his avoidance of going into foster care.
B) Bruce doesn't acknowledge the harm he does to Dick nearly as openly. He is toxic, is demanding, treats Dick as lesser than himself and does not see him as an equal in their relationship.
Note and correction from @inkrats:
"Bruce DOES see Dick as an equal. That’s part of the problem—that he, as a grown ass man expects the same emotional (and overall) understanding, capabilities, and intelligence from a child as he does from himself. Dick *has* to be hyper competent to keep up with him and the moment he can’t, the moment it gets *too hard* is the moment he’s faced with the very real threat of death, or worse, loosing Bruce. Be it through a mistake in the field that gets him killed or Bruce pushing him back out into the “otherness” that surrounds everyone who isn’t them and treating Dick like he’s never been on the inside at all.
to bounce off that, it’s not necessarily that he sees Dick as a lesser, he’s just inconsistent w how he treats him"
C) they are *incredibly* codependent. Bruce and Dick are tied together in every possible way, to the point where their beginnings and ends are muddled. With Slade, Dick is *able* to walk away.
That's what I was getting at in my post. Slade and Dick are *not* a healthy relationship in the slightest. But Bruce and Dick aren't either. It comes down to who is willing to be honest about it.
2) Once again- Slade never groomed Dick in the comics. He groomed *Tara/Terra*- which, by the way, you can at least spell her name right- but that is entirely irrelevant to this conversation.
3) Are you sure? Or are you just saying that you aren't because you've heard that it's bad to be puritan? You're not exactly defending your position well.
4) I'm not saying that it's *healthier,* god no. That's an entirely different debate. But Brudick is *worse* because of the points I've brought up. Slade has hurt Dick, for sure. That's part of the appeal. But when it comes down to it, when you put them side by side, Bruce has irreversibly changed Dick and hurt him deeper than Slade *ever* could.
5) You're saying that... Even if Dick was Bruce's son, you'd still stand by the fact that Slade is worse? Seriously?
So a relationship between a father/son, where the father grooms the son and they're extremely codependent to the point of ruin, is *better* than a toxic relationship between two unrelated, consenting adults?
Even if Dick and Bruce aren't father and son, Bruce still acts as his father in a lot of different aspects. Specifically, for Dick's *stability.* It is still taking advantage of someone relying on you. It's still inherently unbalanced.
6) In the vol1 TNTT, Slade is taking advantage of her naivity and her vulnerability. It has nothing to do with her being a minor, or her being attractive to him. He is *grooming* her for his own personal gain of killing the Teen Titans, not because he wants to fuck her. If they did, it was a cherry on top of a fucked up situation. It was not a pattern, it was not him targeting her because she's young.
7) if you think pedophile is a strong word, then *why do you keep using it incorrectly?* Slade is not a pedophile in any sense of the word. He's a creep, he's a groomer, he's an abuser, but he never once goes after *children.* There is a difference between an adult and an underage teenager and an adult and a literal child. Both are awful and dangerous and unhealthy, but there is a difference and Slade is a character that the difference is relevant with.
I am genuinely asking, here. Did you read my original response? I addressed 90% of this in that post. What it seems like to me is that you panicked, saw that I had implied you were an anti, and had to reply as quickly as you could to address that "accusation."
I don't think you're an anti, Anon. I don't necessarily think that you're stupid either. But, you aren't actually reading my response or caring about the conversation. I'll reiterate: come back when you have an actual opinion for this discussion. Read my posts, actually read them and think about what argument you are actually trying to make. Come back then, and we can have a genuine discussion rather than someone pointing fingers and someone trying to make sense of confused ramblings.

So, I'm writing a long fanfic based around the characterizations of the various Bats in the 80s-00s time frame, and Nightwing is gonna be important but I don't have a good grasp of his personality yet. I'm currently reading through The Resurrection of Ras Al Ghul, but that and a few of the 2016 issues are all I've got to go off of right now.
Do you have any comics you'd recommend for getting a good grasp of his personality and general vibes?
I'd also be happy to read any kind of ramble about his personality/appeal you feel like writing. Having read your fanfiction I feel like (sincere compliment:) you are the exact kind of unhinged I want to get character opinions from.
(Also you mentioned Dick being in the mob which sounds Very Fun and I wanna know what titles so I can read that)
-redhoodinternaldialectical on anon cause sideblog
ok first of all. im flattered. i feel so powerful rn.
and second of all... my 'to read' list is embarrassingly long, and dick's been around and in a lot of comics so i have a lot of trouble keeping up ;-; but i will try my best!!
The New Teen Titans gets recommended a lot as a starting point for Dick as Nightwing, and while i havent read much of it, the stuff i have read has been pretty solid and i get why its so popular.
Nightwing 1996 is my personal go to comic for Dick, mainly bc it was his first real solo run. (it's often listed as "volume 2" of nightwing, but volume 1 aka Nightwing 1995 was really more of a test drive just to see if they should make a Nightwing solo series) It's also where Dick joins the mob! although that came off the tail end of a lot of different plot points.
(This is a bit unrelated, but in general I think knowing a bit of irl context to certain comic events is important. Like, at one point Bludhaven is nuked off the map. It doesn't make sense, and it was most likely due to some higher up DC nonsense. And Nightwing 1996's second annual is written by a man. etc etc.)
... I actually have a guide I've been working on, main reasons being quick reference for what happens where, and that writing these things down helps me remember them better
as you can probably tell, I still have a ways to go. looking at this now i'm starting to realize that i am really down bad for him lol
Mobbed Up (where Dick gets adopted by a random mob boss who took one look at his depressed mug as he was getting fired from the police force and said "new son?") is issues #107-111
I feel like I should get back to character thoughts.
Dick on his own is deeply serious, he has a job to do and it's incredibly important that he does it right. In the beginning this serves as an invaluable asset, but as he loses more people it starts to turn into more destructive. A trait that is morphed by his traumas into obsessiveness.
Dick when Tim comes to visit (or just when he's around people he cares about) is a bit softer, it's subtle, but it shows that he's aware of/cares for the people around him.
Dick with Bruce around seems to worry so much about proving himself, about being seen as a respectable peer, that it backfires into making him come off more insecure and as a bit of a "rebellious teen". (which is exactly what he's trying to avoid when he strikes out on his own) I've read various arcs and issues but I haven't actually read any focused on Dick and Bruce aside from the ones towards the beginning, so I'm sure their relationship must change, but this is how they were when Dick had first moved to Blud.
I feel like Bludhaven is also important to talk about. It's very much meant to be "Gotham, but worse". It's a place that even Batman wouldn't bother with, a place beyond saving. I'm... kind of breaking my own heart, thinking about how much Dick put into this city, only to. To fail? In a sense? A hero's home city isn't usually obliterated like that. The only other example that comes to mind is Hal Jordan's, and Hal literally went insane and became a space terrorist to bring it back. Dick is just... forced to move on.
And Dick goes back to NYC. Nightwing patrolling Gotham with any regularity feels very modern. He shows up when there's a major event and DC wants to capitalize on having a bunch of names in the same series, and he shows up when something drastic changes (like a new robin, or a death). Dick has however spent a lot of time in NYC, either because of the Titans or because. yknow. home go boom.
Anyways. Arc recs. Unironically I need you to read Brothers in Blood. Get past the initial gross out factor of Tentatodd and it's a great look at Jason and Dick's relationship. This is #118-122 and right after Bludhaven gets nuked. Dick has just experienced the lowest lows that one could low. Jason seems to know all about it, and tries to help in the worst way possible. Jason is right and blunt and convoluted and so so insecure about where he stands with Dick. Dick doesn't know where he stands with Jason either, on account of all the murder, and his tactless approach to trying to confront Dick on the copious amounts of trauma that Dick is dealing with. BiB is my Jaydick bible.
I'd also say to just give the first few arcs a shot. Beginnings are meant for introductions! It gives a good sense of who Dick is, why he's here, and what his goals are. Exposition baby! And I'm once again thinking about how ultimately Dick kind of fails said goals. I love him but he makes me so emo. Blockbuster has also been his main villain since the beginning, up until. Yknow. He became deader than his namesake. There's also a few fear toxin based issues that are good for. well. understanding what his fears are. There's also a fear toxin scene in Batman: Orphans, but i'll just reblog the post i made of it so u don't have to read that one. The art is fun, the story is weird and just kinda. meh.
#60 is when Dick joins the force. The beginning of the end, so to speak, but we don't meet Catalina until #71.
#93 is That Issue. The infamous rape scene. The thing about his time with Catalina is that it was almost definitely meant to be explored for what it was- an abusive relationship. But DC wanted Nightwing in an event. It doesn't have any satisfactory end, Bruce (DC) calls Dick to fight in Gotham. He does. His story falls to the wayside for the bigger title. The worst thing that can happen to a DC character IMO is getting a Batman crossover. There was supposed to be an entire arc dedicated to what would happen to Dick in this abusive relationship. But we got 2 issues. And War Games. It pisses me off to absolutely no end. DC needed more mouths to kiss the ground that Batman walks on. They don't give a damn about the stories that exist outside their cash cow.
After all that, eventually Dick is back to his utterly depressing life. He joins the mob, finds a family, bad things happen to said family. (Mobbed Up, #107-111) He wants to protect the daughter, Sophia Tevis, and then Slade holds Sophia hostage to get Dick to teach his daughter Rose how to fight. He does, but he also teaches Rose how to question authority (aka her dad). Slade is not happy about that, and nukes Bludhaven. (Renegade, #112-117) See my earlier note about IRL reasons for dumbass plot points.
Nightwing 1996 has 2 annual issues (despite running for much longer than 2 years). The first annual is a fun murder mystery and i think a good look into how Dick handles relationships. He also reads as very aromantic/demiromantic who doesn't know it yet, but maybe that's just me, lol. the second annual is dog shit. Mark Andreyko can get bent, it sucked total ass and isn't worth reading.
#asks#redhoodinternaldialectical#this isnt the /most/ well organized but i hope it was at least a little helpful#now to go find the batman orphans post i mentioned

What if the 2003 Teen Titans were pokemon trainers Part II Titans East and other characters
When I made part one I acknowledged that the show was 20 years old and some laptop problems on my end resulted in it being posted months after my previous posts and about 2 months after the aniversary of the shows pilot so I understood if it did not get many views. I said I still wanted to make it because these lists are a lot of fun to make, and 2003 Teen Titans was one of my favorite shows growing up. I guess I am not the only one who still remmberes it fondly, because I got multiple likes and a couple reblogs in just a couple weeks (Thank you!). So here is my promised part 2. If you haven't seen Pat I (which has the main titans and Terra's teams) then I will link it at the end of this post.
A few things to go over before you see my lists. I am not giving any character more than three pokemon. These teens all have super powers (or in some of them's case, gadgets and martial arts abilities that rival super powers) and they go on missions and handle all bad guys/foes as a group, So I do not think any of them would have a need for six pokemon. Secondly I am basing my lists off pokemon that I think would work best for the 2003 version, since that is the version I grew up with. But the pokemon I chose could also work for the Teen titans go versions too, if anyone who see this perfers that version. Lastly I like to gove characters that have particularly significant/close relationships I like to give them both paralle or similar pokemon to show that. The titans are a pretty close knit team, so I wanted for them I decided to do a team mascot pokemon. the main/core titans all got a shiny pokemon. For titans East I wound up giving each of them a fairy type (for half of them it just happened, and once I saw that I rolled with it for the othet half). Okay that should be everything, so moving on to my teams below
BumbleBee
The Leader of the Titans East
Beedrill & Ribombee: Bee pokemon for the Bee themed superhero. One is ficesty with a sharp sting, and one is cute and sweet honey bee. Bumblebee could be both, depending on what angle she was working or how good of friends you and her were. Ribombee also takes the role of being her fairy type. On final thing, when I showed this list to friends before typing it out I was asked by two of them why I did not give Bumblee a vespaqueen instead of a beedrill. Well the answer to that is quit simple my dear Watsons: There can only ever be one queen bee per hive. Titans East's tower already has a queen bee, and that's Bumblebee
Pikachu: I was out of Bee pokemon. Bumble Bee is skilled election so I thought she should also have an electric type. I also deduced that it needed to be a small because Bumblebee always operated under the philosophy that smaller meant harder to hit. After that it was a no brainer to give her the pokemon franchises electric icon and round out her team.
Speedy
Robin's look-alike, and the second titan to prove you do not have to have powers to be able to keep up with other Super hero's
Dedenne: This is Speedy's fairy type. I picked it because both its color scheem and its electric/fairy type. Due to its small size and scrappy nature I like to picture Speedy's dedenne riding on top of his arrow and giving them an extra extra boost of electric charge.
Hitmonlee: Goes with Robin's Hitmonchan. as both Robin and Speedy are powerless hero's who rely on their own battle, so I am giving them both fighting pokemon that they can spar and train with. Speedy knows how to fight close range, but as an archer is more skilled at fighting from a distance. So off the field he and Hitmonlee can spar together and practice close range. On the field it stands in front of Speedy and keeps villains inside Speedy's archary range
Decidueye: I had to use this one, since its the only archery based pokemon. Speedy could probably learn to shoot its shed feathers, and it could maybe...maybe shoot a couple of his arrows (???). It has a rivialry/broship with one of Aqualad's pokemon; their relationship mirroring that of their trainers.
Aqualad
The telepath, hydro-kinetic, and pretty face of the Titans East
Squirtle: It's a tough water pokemon, can easily battle on land or in water, and is exceedingly brave. An all around good pokemon for Aqualad who's team would be made up of water pokemon.
Vaporeon: Vaporeon is another powerful watertype that can fight on lad or in the water. It also posses the power to turn its body into water and move through bodies of water while invincible. So its a perfect pokemon for stealth missions that are by the water.
Primaeina: Aqualad's fairy type and his ace. This is the pokemon that has the the rivalry/broship with Speedy's Decidueye. I like the idea of these two both having fully evolved Alolan starters
Mas y Menos
Twin speedsters who speak 2 languages
Okay so I gave them complimentary teams, since back when the show came out twins were often written to be the same character (Glad that has changed). SO I am going to list their pokemon together and use there individual symbols (+) (-) to show which one belongs to which.
Plusle (+) & Minun (-): I had to give them these two. They are basically the same duo in two different universes.
Ninjask (+) & Accelgor (-): Two bug types that are some of the fastest pokemon for these speedsters.
Galarian Rapidash (+/-): This one does not have a pokeball, it is instead close friends with both of them (similar to Meowth's relationship with Jessie and James). IT is still their fairy type.
Red-X
Robin's Anti hero Alter.
Murkrow: I said on Raven's list that I could not give her one even if it looked like her favorite bird, because its a thieving bird that either steals independently or to because it works for a higher crook (a Honchkrow). A dark thieving bird is something I could see Red-X really taking a liking to. He is the metaphorical Honchkrow for whom his Murkrow steals for.
Frogadier: Red X's ace. A strong, quick, and agil pokemon. It can use its tounge and cotton to take out servaliance cameras, and the ninja like way it moves is similar to Rex-X
Regular Absol: Robin has a shiney absol on his team. I wanted to give him and Red-X one pokemon that was the same and picked Absol since they both at times walk the line between good and evil. Robin's is a shiny though; to show how his friends help him keep his eye on the light. Red-X unlike Robin is a loner, without friends, because he prefers to in his words "look out for number 1". He is not a bad guy at root of it all. He is what Robin probably would have become had he stayed a solo act after leaving Batman. So its fitting then that Red-X would have a regular Absol as opposed to the Robin's Shiny one, because he has less light in his life and a less shining career.
Jinx
Villian turned to good in the finale season.
So Jinx did not have a lot of character. She was the girl hive member, had "Bad luck Hex powers"??? Basically she was like a punk witch. In her second to finale episode a hero flirts with her and she says something about "Wanting a chance" (Not necessarily a chance to be good or bad, just a chance) and that because of her powers "Good was never an option for me". Well from her finale appearance it looked like Kid Flash gave her a chance and she switched to good. This could arguably place her in the "Anti-Hero" category so I felt like I should put her on this list. I had a friend give me some help with her. They suggested picking "Witchy pokemon". Here are the ones we picked
Sableye: goes with Jinx whole spooky punk esthetic, and has types she would like
Mismagius: A mischeivous and powerful ghost. It was a Misdreavus for most for the series. Jinx evolved it with a stone after meeting Kid Flash, being given her chance, and switching sides.
Phantump: My friend suggested Pumpkaboo, but I have already used that one quite a few times on other lists so I decided to give a bit more love to Phantump. It is still "witchy" and might actually suit jinx more since I believe a comic once hinted to her being a fan of "The Wizard of Oz".

I just found your account and it looks like you know about comics, can you recommend me some angsty Dick Grayson comics? All I know is secondhand stuff, I watched Titans and Teen Titans Go!, but not the original Teen Titans (because life happened, it's on the list ok), I especially like the scene with Dick slowly going crazy in jail, it's what I feel like as a Craycray myself, and it's so nice when Bruce is just... nice to him. I really like Wayne Family Adventures and I was hoping the canon material would be like that but apparently not? Also I read the TT comics with Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo. That's what I'm familiar with, I'd like to know more, can you help a noob? Thanks so much!
so sorry this is late, tumblr doesnt show me any asks til like a week later lol but i can try! im a batfam fan but i usually read them in batman comics or elseworlds. havent delved into too much of their solos yet, only a couple. & honestly no stress if u havent seen the '03 show, everybody starts somewhere, it's totally okay (also id add young justice to the list, hes a primary character and so, so fun)
as for the comic he's in jail,
// sa ment below //
if it's the comic i'm thinking of, dick is having a breakdown in jail after he was raped by tarantula
// sa ment above //
so if that's a trigger for you i'd def avoid it, although the rest of the run is pretty angsty, you could def get away with skipping the comic it happens in and reading the rest of it (nightwing vol 2 # 93)
onto the recs tho!
note: theres a ton of good nightwing comics but i focused on the more angsty ones you asked for (:
nightwing (2016-current)
hes contsantly in the trenches trenches. includes an angsty amnesia arc & an alternate universe dick who was raised by a villain
knight terrors: nightwing
'twas the mite before christmas
titans eldrich horror in the its a bunkerful life story
gotham war
mostly bruce/batfam focused but dick is there for a good amnt and they are all suffering, you'll love it
the jokers last laugh
forever evil
battle for the cowl
grayson
there's definitely others but these are the ones i rmbr/read abt
hope you enjoy! lmk how it goes 🖤
edit: i also answered another ask with some other recs for nightwing!

Have you watched Gotham? I’ve been getting mixed reviews some say it’s a bad show others say that it’s good, but Batman has always been one of my interests for so long (I’ve watched some of the pilot a few years ago but can’t remember much of it) idk if I should try and watch it again after finishing season 4 of Titans
Also, besides Gotham what are some of your DC show recs for Max? :)
hi! ☺️ (this got a little long, sorry 😅)
i watched the first season of gotham when it originally came out and remembered really really enjoying it, but failed to keep up after that. i’ve always meant to go back to it but keep forgetting 😅 beyond s1 i couldn’t really tell you much, and even then i don’t remember a lot cause it was a while ago, but i do remember being really into it. i guess it’s an acquired taste cause it is pretty dark and gritty from what i recall, but that’s dc! i’ve heard lots of good things about it, but i always give things a chance no matter what i hear, especially if it’s something that piqued my interest! i always say that if you find you’re not enjoying what you’re watching you can always turn it off, so might as well give it a try if you aren’t sure. ☺️
i haven’t watched that many dc shows 😅
i grew up on teen titans and that’s what really got me into dc to begin with, so i’ll always recommend that!!!
if you’re up to date on the dceu and haven’t already, peacemaker is actually extremely entertaining and has been renewed for a season 2!
i started and have been meaning to finish doom patrol if you haven’t seen that already! it’s connected to titans so that’s awesome and i’ve heard really good things! (do it for cyborg ♥️)
the arrowverse is a lot of fun too!!! that will take a lot to watch all of it though, but you can also only watch certain ones and just keep up with crossovers! i fell off the shows a while back and never got into it again cause there was so much to catch up on 😅 but arrow and the flash both started out strong and i really enjoyed them. i watched a bit of supergirl and legends of tomorrow as well, but none of the others. i’ve heard good things though!
i haven’t seen the harley quinn animated series, but you know for a fact it’s on my list!! i’ve heard NOTHING but good things and i’m so excited to watch it when i find the time!
i know it’s silly, but teen titans go is also really fun and easy. can put it on in the background while you’re doing other things!
one of my friends told me she really enjoys pennyworth!
even though it was canceled after one season, i’ve also been meaning to give watchmen a look. i’ve heard mixed reviews, but i wanna see for myself lol
it’s not on max (it’s on hulu), but i also highly recommend smallville. it can be goofy at times because of how old it is, but that’s it’s charm! i actually only watched it for the first time last year and couldn’t stop watching!!! i may have binged it abnormally fast 😳
there’s also a few animated series, but i don’t know much about them 😅 sorry this isn’t very conclusive, but hopefully it at least sets you in a good direction! ♥️

I recently decided to watch all Batman movies. Then I saw how many movies that was, and added a bunch of qualifiers. It’s still too many movies but, you know, we do what we can.
I’m going to be posting about each movie after I watch it. I don’t expect this to be interesting to anyone who isn’t me but I might as well document the process. More rambling details under the cut.
The full list of theatrical and direct-to-video movies that feature Batman was 83 movies long, 84 if you count Catwoman (2004) which I do intend to watch for reasons of historical significance even though Batman doesn’t appear in it. For purposes of this list, a movie counts as a Batman movie if Bruce Wayne, or another character acting as Batman, has at least one line of dialogue. Crowd scenes like Space Jam 2 don’t count but baby Bruce in the Joker does.
The first qualifier that I tried was that I wouldn’t watch anything with a runtime under 1 hour, or anything that was just episodes of a TV show edited together, but this didn’t pare down the list nearly as much as I hoped. I really didn’t want to use different qualifiers for direct-to-video movies versus theatrical releases, but I made it about 10 minutes into Mask of the Phantasm before I was forced to confront the fact that I don’t actually care about Bruce Wayne The Man Himself that much. So for direct-to-video movies, at least one of his children has to be in it as well. Theatrical movies get to skip this requirement because otherwise I wouldn’t be watching uh, almost any of them.
These qualifiers only mark which movies are mandatory - I’ll probably end up watching a bunch that break these rules, but at least this takes the pressure off a bit lol
I haven’t gone back through and culled the list yet, so here is the full list of 84 movies.

Comic Books I've Read Recently
Here are a few comics I've been reading recently that I've rented from hoopla digital app. Update: Well, last month, actually.
Marvel Masterworks - Uncanny X-Men (Volume 6)
By now, I've read the first 5 volumes of the Uncanny-X-Men Masterworks - to brush up on the Chris Claremont/John Byrne era of X-Men stories, from the Giant Size X-Men all the way through to the Dark Phoenix Saga. Now I'm getting into reading (or re-reading when it comes to some like God Loves, Man Kills and Wolverine - both in 1982) some of the memorable stories from the early '80's I've heard about, some of which I think were adapted in the X-Men: TAS (Ms. Marvel vs. Rogue, the addition of Rogue to the X-Men, Storm and the Morlocks story, for example)
I wish I could go into further detail into my favorite 'new' characters they had introduced to the team (like Wolverine and Storm) or the various stories Let's just say I've enjoyed them all and then some, and leave it at that.
Teen Titans - The Judas Contract (1984)
The Judas Contract - the famous TT storyline centered around Terra being a spy for Deathstroke sent to infiltrate the Teen Titans. It was the adaptation for the 2003 cartoon series Teen Titans that got me to change my initial thoughts for that show when I was a teen. In turn, the show's popularity was what ultimately lead me to read the various TPB's almost a decade later for the Marv Wolfman/George Perez run in the late 80's. By my last count, I read the first 5 volumes for this run, and I might consider looking into the Silver Age Omnibus, as well.
As for the story itself? I found it intriguing when I first read it, and I find it no less intriguing when I revisited it. Both Wolfman and Perez's work in writing and illustration speaks for itself and I won't go too deep into analysis there. Besides, this list is not really meant to be a deep analytical dive.
The main reason I've decided to read it again is to brush up on Deathstroke (Slade Wilson): his backstory, his personality, his family (his wife Adeline, his two sons Grant and Joseph (I know he ends up having a daughter Rose later on)), the whole nine.
Deathstroke The Terminator (1991-1996)
Look above - brushing up on Deathstroke the Terminator.
Just finished reading the first volume (issues #1-9 and the New Titans #70). The two story arcs (the first - "Full Circle" - a four-part story arc, and the second - "City of Assassins" - a story involving him, Batman, and a female police detective who looks to clear her name when they suspect her being dodgy with them) are the highlight of the first volume surrounding Slade Wilson. Especially the fight scene in issue #7, where Deathstroke owned Batman.
Nightwing - Vol. 1 (1996-2009 run)
How to sum up what I've read so far: it's Nightwing. It's Dick Grayson. It's solo run after he had stepped out of Bruce Wayne's shadow - more or less - and being the protector of his own city: Bludhaven. I'll leave it at that for now. Just finished reading the first volume, loved it. Moving on to Vol. 2!
Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One
I'd played the video game series, and I liked it (though, personally, I can't help but imagine if the gameplay had been like the Arkham series rather than a Mortal Kombat fighting game, I would've liked it even better). I've seen the 2021 animated movie, and admit that while there were certain parts that I liked better than what I've seen so far in the comics (ex: Wonder Woman was so... eager to be Superman's sloppy seconds and his enabler), the opposite is true as well. (Like how Wonder Woman was able to see how just off the deep end Superman had gone near the end of the movie). I only wished that the movie could've been done as the first installment of like, 5 or 6 stories, just to show how Superman had truly fallen as a hero and become that which he fought against.
As for this tie-in comic series, I've already rented this earlier this year, and I am in the middle of revisiting it. IIRC, my favorite involved this scene in the Batcave at the very end of Year One, specifically the part with Alfred and Superman:
I won't say I took pleasure in seeing Superman getting beat up by Bruce's butler, but... given what happened earlier in the tie-in comic... not to mention in the game - when Superman basically killed Billy Batson when he stood up to him - I'll just say that there was some form of catharsis, when it came to this universe's Superman.

I mean if you wanna be an ass on the internet about it let’s look at these shows.
From first glance you’d think the most recent of these shows is ATLA (it isn’t but let’s just explore that) which would put the oldest on your list at 13-14 youngest at 2-3. You seem to enjoy taking the first results on google as fact so I encourage you to look up when memories actually start to store in the average adult.
The earliest is I think Jimmy Neutron. At 2002 which is when the end of the list was born.
Millennials end at 1996 Which would make them at least 5-6 when most of these shows started. Old enough to socialize about the shows with friends or watch with older sibs.
But of course there’s reruns and multiple seasons. And most of these shows ran together or consecutively. Most of the animated shows didn’t make it through that many seasons or have strong fan bases but there were ones that did like Avatar, Ben 10, Teen Titans, Danny Phantom. Most of the live action shows kept going off of star power.
But even taking the median ages in consideration they wouldn’t be old enough to watch and remember half these shows because they weren’t even airing consistently or even worse only during school hours.
Now seeing as iCarly is the most recent show on this list airing in 2007 that would make your youngest about 5-6, oldest at 15 which is around the age where you’re trying to be edgy and misunderstood and don’t wanna really enjoy the goofiness of iCarly (they’d probably rather watch Avatar, Zoey 101 or Ben 10. But I think they were all, or about to be, on their last seasons.
Long story short yeah gen z watched these shows but not long or memorably enough to really call these zelennial shows especially since most of these shows didn’t air for all that long.
Kid shows that scream “zillennial” to me

Reading This Week 2023 #35
And so we see my end of summer vacation reading (what I read at home and unable to do any fun plans because my mom was sick) and the Beginning of graduate school reading!
Finished:
Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown
I have so many thoughts about this book and I'm so excited to go to a book club meeting about it. It was so so fun to read, so I know I absolutely have to check out Rita Mae Brown's mysteries. I thought it was interesting how sex was so... I feel like calling unerotic or not-sexy makes it sound like I'm insulting the sex scenes in this! but I just genuinely find it interesting how there's a lot of semi-explicit sex in this book and I don't think its goal is ever to be sexy, its just that sex is a thing that's important to Molly's life but she doesn't have a lot of big magic feelings about it! it's a thing she does and sometimes its fantastic and sometimes its meh. did roll my eyes so hard about how butch/femme dynamics are treated in this and how Molly dismisses butch women tho
Started and Finished:
Batman/Superman: World's Finest #16-17 written by Mark Waid, art by Dan Mora
World's Finest: Teen Titans #1-2 written by Mark Waid, art by Emanuela Lupacchino
this is nearly everything I could ask for in a modern comic about the OG titans.... the misused slang as a nod to the completely made up slang... the livestreaming... they have a HASHTAG! the only thing I need now is for them to rescue an obvious pastiche of BTS
Nightwing #105 written by Tom Taylor, art by Bruno Redondo
Titans #2 written by Tom Taylor, art by Nicola Scott
"Climate Crisis Is on Track to Push One Third of Humanity Out of Its Most Livable Environment" by Abrahm Lustgarten on ProPublica
so some things for grad school will not show up on this list because I did the efficient thing and skimmed them to get the gist, and I just want to say that. this i did read all the way tho!
"The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House" and "Poetry Is Not a Luxury" by Audre Lorde
45 fics for the marathon
Started and Ongoing:
The Iliad by Homer, translated by Richmond Lattimore
