{{-Story Description: You're a youtuber with a fairly decent following deciding to help your good friend Tanner with a minor film project, with you set as the leading lady. When the actor for the male lead is a no show, Ted takes up the role himself. One problem: This short film's a Rom Com, and you just met the guy.-}}
//18+, Def gonna be some smut. Reader is implied to be afab, under 5'5 and has specifically named friends, all who have no real connection to Ted.

Chapter 3: My Eyes Are Up Here
The first day of shooting the film finally came and went. We had spent most of that afternoon figuring out what every character's wardrobe would be like and making sure everything on set looked good on camera. If any furniture needed to be moved, we moved it. Paintings were taken down or added, blinds were closed or left open, overrall it felt like the first day was about preperation. While I had thought we'd get at least some filming done on the first day, it actually worked out well. It gave Ted an entire day to go over the script with Tanner, and Joe the entire day to play the role of my father, demanding I stay away from bad boy Ted. I mean that sarcastically. Mostly sarcastically.
The plot of the film is almost similar to our real lives: We're supposed to be a bunch of adults out of college trying to hold on to our youth while spending their last summer together at some...summer house. There's a few extras that are meant to be playing our friends, but the main focus is on the relationship of Ted and I; our characters, I mean. At the end of the first day, everyone part of the film crew leave to sleep at their own accommodations except 5 of us. Ted, Myself, Tanner, Joe and another member of the editing team, though I don't learn his name tonight as he spends the entirety of it in his assigned bedroom. Joe had offered to get me a separate Airbnb when he realized I was the only one staying here that didn't identify as a guy, but I'm not uncomfortable with these arrangements. I have a lock for my assigned bedroom if need be, but I have no reason to distrust anyone else that will be spending the next 3 weeks living here.
The first night passes with no problems from anybody, except from Ted. He started knocking on my wall around 12am. Took a good couple minutes and a quick Google search to realize the fuckass was knocking 'cunt' in Morse code. He stopped shortly after I messaged him a picture of my middle finger being held up at the same wall.
The next morning i'm involved in a few scenes with some of the extras first so I can get a real feel for being on camera in this light, which also gives Ted time to read over the script in another room. In the film, my name is supposed to be Kara, and he's Mason. Tanner picked simple names. Ted looks like he could be named 'Mason'. The scenes go by fairly quickly, doing the necessary repeats to get multiple takes and angles, standard procedure when filming. I find myself to be quite a natural at this sort of thing. Other than the occasional stammer, I'm able to speak my lines and act the part with little to no difficulty. No bloopers just yet.
Next thing I know, morning turns into noon and we're having to move outside to take advantage of the last bit of full sunshine we'll have for the day, including Ted, who will finally be joining me in front of the camera. Like Ted had explained yesterday, we'd been filming a lot of the scenes out of order, this one included. At this point in the story, several days have passed, and our characters have already shared their first kiss, so our chemistry needs to be on point to make it believable. We need to act like there are some real, lingering feelings for one another while keeping it subtle. It was actually challenges like this that made me agree to take the leading lady role. I could've easily been one of the extras and only have a page or two to read off of, but I wanted to explore true acting, not just pretending.
I can't say I'm inherently a romantic. I'm certainly intrigued by how romance in film was handled decade's ago compared to now and I'd absolutely invest myself into a romantic comedy of the 90's or 2000's if one was turned on in front of me, but I didn't sign up for this to play pretend with a handsome guy. I want to explore the trials and tribulations of this cheesy kind of storytelling I'm a sucker for. I want to see if I'm capable of bringing chemistry into one scene, then slipping it into my pocket for the next as if it were never out there.
My thoughts are cut by Tanner and Ted meeting me and the rest of the crew outside, with the script still in Ted's hand. He's still in the white t-shirt they fitted him with yesterday, changing his slacks into some dark blue jeans. He looked pretty good in jeans.
"Okay, so we wanna get some establishing shots.." Tanner explained to us, Ted moving to come stand beside me. "We're gonna get some of the extras to toss around a football and sort of...run around, get some shots of them playing. You two are gonna go stand over by that post and just...talk..." He pauses on that last word, as if to really emphasize it. "Just talk?" Ted repeats, raising both of his brows with a smile. "I don't like the way you hesitated there, my good man."
"No, I mean--"
"I feel like you're trying to imply something, good sir."
"Yeah, Tanner. He can talk to the 'pretty lady'." I pitch in with a knowing smirk, getting a look from Ted. "We won't need an intimacy coach just yet."
"No, I get it.." Tanner chuckles slightly. "What I was trying to say is now might be a good time to talk about what your 'tell' is going to be, if you can't think of anything to talk about."
I furrow my brows in confusion, silently looking to Ted for an idea of what that is. He looks equally confused. "Our 'tell'?" I ask.
"Yeah, for when you have to kiss." Tanner replies, pointing at Ted and I. "We can't just count down from three and shout at you. It has to feel natural, so if you have a tell, a non-verbal way of signaling that one of you is going in for it, it makes it...realistic and saves up some time."
I suppose the way Tanner explained it make sense. It makes me think back on a moment in Stranger Things. There's a scene at the end of Season 2 where everyone's dancing, and you can just barely see Finn Wolfhard's mouth move before he goes in for a kiss. He had mouthed 'I'm coming in' or something like that to Millie and it's noticable in the final shot they went with. Tanner wanting to avoid that is completely valid.
"OK. No problem." Ted was the first to agree with a casual shrug, turning to look at me. I give a quiet little nod in return. "Where should we go stand?"
"Just over there would be perfect." Tanner pointed over by the large empty flagpole in the distance, a bit farther away from the rest of the extras. "I'll just be a little more to the left with the film crew, I'll give you a. O.K. signal just before we start filming so you know when to start and I'll shout 'cut' when we're done."
"Sounds good to me. Let's go." Ted beckoned me to follow, heading towards the flagpole.
I'm walking somewhat behind Ted, blushing a little to myself as I take in just how much taller he is than me. He's definitely at least a foot taller, maybe more. I'm only noticing it now. I wonder how tall he is?
"It's 6."
I stop walking for about a second, almost wondering if Ted had somehow read my mind. "What?"
"It's 6 kisses. I counted."
"O-Oh." I giggle a little to myself, crossing my arms over each other to rub them with my hands. "You counted them? Did you even read the script?"
"Better than you did! How do you over count kissing?"
"I counted 7!"
"You added one in, you fuckhead."
"Why the fuck would I add one in? What, you think I was enticing you with an extra kiss, asshole?!" I move up a bit to stand beside him as we walk, just so I can playfully nudge his arm. "I counted 7!"
"You fucking wish, princess."
"Ooghh, you fucking wiiiish!..." I start to mock Ted's strong voice again. "You're projecting. Maybe you under-counted."
"How about you under-count how cute you think you are, huh?" Ted snickered to himself, nudging me back a little harder. "We're supposed to want to smooch it up more once we get to this pole, I need to be able to stay in character."
"That sounds like a you problem. I can stay in character, even with your headass."
"I am going to stick you up on that fucking flagpole, princess. One more."
"Stick--" I pause and close my mouth, resisting the urge to burst out laughing. "Stick deez nuts down your throat."
Ted and I erupt into laughter, almost getting a little hysterical. I leaned forward and hugged my stomach while Ted flung his head back. I'm sure at least some of the others could hear us, our laughter was practically echoing out. We knew we had to come down from our laughing fit when we reached the flagpole, letting out a few more cackles and giggles. I lean back against the large flagpole, it's wide enough for me to push all my weight on it without shifting one way or another. From here, we can see that Tanner was still talking to the film crew as they mess with their large cameras. I'm having to squint and raise my hand up to cover them from the sun's bright, harsh rays, though I smile to myself. I'm glad I agreed to help with this.
"How much longer, do you think?" I ask Ted, watching as Tanner moved over to a different cameraman. Before Ted can answer me, I see Tanner turn to us and raise his arm up high. I can just barely make out the O.K. symbol he's doing with his hand. Next thing I know, the sun's rays are no longer over me. Did some clouds move over it, or...?
I turn my body, only to stiffen it up against the flagpole, almost like I'm trying to push my body into it. Ted is now completely towering over me, only being held up by his forearm resting above my head against the pole. He's crossed his legs somewhat, so if he were to remove his arm, all of his weight would come crashing down on me. "You feelin' alright there, (Y/N)?" Ted's grinning like an absolute winner, keeping his dark brown eyes on me as he removes his round glasses and rests them atop his head. I feel like his eyes could be replaced with the red laser of a sniper, and I'd be just as tense.
"Wh-Why are you--"
"Ohhh, nothing sassy to say now, eh? Where's more deez nuts jokes, hm? Where's being an annoying little cunt?"
Before I can create a coherent response, I feel another one of his hands move closer to me. Ted rests his hand right on my forehead. "You're burnin' up, princess. Did you pack some sunscreen? Gettin' real red over here.."
Something about the way he's bullying me is making my stomach twist. His tone, his words, his smile....
I try to turn my head away to get his hand off my forehead. It works, but his hand moved down to the side of my chin, gently pushing it to the side to make me face him once more.
"My eyes are up here, baby."
I glare daggers right back at him. I can't tell if he's actually flirting or if he's just fucking with me 'cause of yesterday. Both are plausible.
"Y'know this isn't helping your case." I collect my composure enough to speak plainly.
"What case?" He asks with a snicker.
"The case where you don't think I'm a pretty lady."
"I don't. Tanner said I need to act like I'm into you, so I'm acting like I'm into you."
"You're a terrible actor."
"I act for a living."
"You make YouTube videos for a living."
"Well, I'm good at pretending to like you, so.."
Ted's earthy orbs linger on me as he removes his hand from my chin. I'm not sure what I'm feeling at this moment. Is it embarrassment? Is it uncomfortable? Am I...intrigued? Interested, even? The way he speaks to me, it's just...
"Sh-Shouldn't we be discussing what our tell is going to be?"
"St-St-St-Stammerin' up a storm over here.." Ted mocks my stutter, his confident grin becoming even more annoying to me.
"You're not funny.." As the words leave me, I realize I've been smiling a little at him.
"What, and you are?"
"I mean it! I--"
"Woww, you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, princess? All that knockin' bothered you?"
"I'm gonna knock you into this fucking pole if you don't shush. I meant about the tell." A chuckle escapes me. "He's gonna want to know what we've come up with. Any ideas?"
Ted let's out a gentle sigh, finally pulling back to stand beside me against the pole instead. I feel like I can breathe properly again. "It's gotta be subtle, yeah?" Ted asks, crossing his arms. "I believe the term Tanner used was 'non-verbal', but yes." I cackle a little. Tanner has a certain way of speaking that's rather amusing. He's one of those friends that are naturally funny, whether he's intending to be or not. "Something that, if picked up on camera, would make sense in the moment.."
"Like a wink?" Ted asks. I turn my head to him, watching as he gives the most non-subtle wink I'd ever seen a man give me. A chuckle leaves me. "More subtle...like..." Thoughts about how the kissing scenes are shot wander through my mind, where the camera may be at any given moment, whether or not there will be a close up. It needs to be as non-verbal as possible; the most subtle way a person can signal to another that they want to kiss them.
"...Like...a quick look at the lips."
"Like a quick little one-two?" Ted asks, moving his eyes from my lips to my eyes to give me a physical demonstration.
"Yeah. I'm sure people do that when they're about to kiss someone."
"You're 'sure'?" Ted's smile drops, his change in expression suggesting he's nervous. "Oh man, don't tell me I'm about to be your first kiss.."
"Oh fuck you! I've had my first kiss! I'm in my 20's!" I laugh at him, watching as he let's out a sigh of relief. "I've had several kisses with several other boys, thanks!"
"Wowww, okay, first of all, kissin' the bro's is different." Ted points his finger at me, trying to appear serious with his lips tucked in a bit. "Second of all, boys? I'll have you know you'll be kissing a MAN, (Y/N). A fully grown 26 year old man!"
"What happened to the 'man' that was supposed to put me up on the flagpole, hm?"
"I basically already did, and you turned into a tomato."
"My feet didn't even leave the ground."
"Were you expecting me to pick you up? Cause I can do that!"
"Oh please, looks like the heaviest thing you ever carried was a Tuba."
"Okay, fuck you, I was in theater, but I can throw a mean ball and could absolutely carry you."
"You think so?"
"Absolutely."
"Try it."
Ted raises a curious brow at me and turns his body towards me once more. For a moment, I thought I saw his eyes wander downward, but our moment is interrupted by a shout, though it's not from Tanner. Right before my eyes, like time moved way faster than I was ready for, Ted had moved around me to stand in front of me to catch a fast-moving football. His back was close to me, in fact, this was the closest he's been to me so far. Though for only a brief moment, I could feel his white shirt slightly caress the tip of my nose as the wind blew. He smelled like...pine trees.
"Dude!" Ted shouted at the extras as he threw the football back. He may not have been a jock in high school, but his form was pretty good.
His. His football form. Y'know, like, not--not his--
I think that football would've hit me if Ted hadn't reacted as fast as he did.
"Jesus..." Ted huffed before turning to me again. He noticed how tense I had gotten, reaching to touch my arm. "I'm sorry, I didn't back up into you, did I? You alright?"
"I-I'm alright.." I managed to mutter back. It was odd hearing his voice sound so concerned for me. Up until now, most if not all of our interactions had been full of sarcastic, tyrannical but overall light-hearted jabs at each other, but in this very moment, I realized we may have unintentionally developed something here. I'm not saying it's necessarily romantic, but...there's a tension building up between us. It's not just in my head, is it? Does he feel it too? Is that why he's?...
"That...works too." Tanner catches up with us, alongside the man that had thrown the football. I didn't even realize they had been approaching us.
"What, did you plan that?" Ted turns to Tanner, sounding quite frustrated with him. "That could've hit her."
"Dude, I'm so sorry, I messed up my throw..." The man next to Tanner spoke with a genuine frown. "I-I meant to throw it higher up and hit the pole, the sun blocked my view. It's my fault."
"No, I told Dan to throw it, I'm sorry." Tanner speaks up as well, his hands resting on his hips nonchalantly. "I've been shouting at you two for, like, a good minute. I thought it would've been funny if Dan hit the pole.."
Ted and I are silent. Oh fuck. How long have they been trying to get our attention? How did we not hear them? I can tell Ted still isn't satisfied with the answer. Angry wasn't a good look for him, I don't think it's a good look for anyone.
"We need to buy you a whistle.." I manage to get out a joke, smiling to show everyone that I wasn't upset. I knew Tanner hadn't meant for anyone to get hurt. He probably trusted this 'Dan' to make the shot. Tanner wouldn't hurt a fly. He /would/ hurt a spider, though. He hates those things. "Yeah. Clearly." Tanner chuckles slightly, slipping his hands into his shorts pockets. "I'm really sorry."
"I'm okay, Tanner. Teddy's got me." I move away from the flagpole to place my arm on Ted's shoulder, leaning against it somewhat. I think my attempts at showing him I was OK finally worked, watching as he looks down at me with a friendly scoff. "I should've let it smack you in your stupid face." He remarks, finally bringing some of the tension from that altercation down. "Maybe, but at least I believe you now." I smile at Ted, moving my hand off his shoulder. Dan apologizes one last time before moving to rejoin the extras. Tanner let's us know that we'll be moving back inside to check on the shots before returning to the cameramen to help pack up. Ted and I start walking back to the house, though he pauses for a moment.
"What do you mean you 'believe me now'?" He asks, furrowing his brows while smiling. "Believe what?"
I give him a cutsey smile and reply simply.
"That you could carry me."
I walk a bit ahead of him, feeling the weight of my cheeks from how wide I'm smiling to myself. I hear a quiet scoff from Ted, though the rest of the walk is quiet.
After a few minutes of packing up and walking, we all return inside to look over the footage and set up for other scenes the extras will be filming. Now is the time we let Tanner know that we've figured out what our 'tell' is going to be. I look over at Joseph in the meantime, who's across the living room helping an extra with adjusting their outfit. As Ted explains the idea, Joe shoots me a look, furrowing his brows like I had just disobeyed a direct order. I return the look with a shrug. He's just going to have to deal with it. Tanner absolutely loved the idea, said it would add 'real intimacy' to a scene if he caught it on camera.
I suppose that's it, then. If I'm ever going in for a kiss, I'll look at Ted's lips to let him know.

Etiquette for Dinner with a Vampire
You receive an invitation on the finest of paper, a crimson seal splashing across it like blood - an invitation to a dinner at the manor of a noble figure, a lord or lady about whom rumours swirl. Dark whisperings suggest that although you are being invited to a grand meal, you may end up being supper instead.
Goodness, could you even imagine saying no?
Dress
When you receive the invitation, it should list the dress-code for the evening. In today's society, the average heroine will receive few invitations to events that have dress-codes, aside from weddings. Miss A will decode it for you, and offer you some suggestions.
White Tie and Black Tie
The difference between white tie and black tie lies primarily with suits, as opposed to dresses. For those who prefer gowns, floor-length is the most appropriate for a dinner. Opera gloves are an optional choice, but if your host is from a bygone era, it might be best to err on the side of caution and wear them. For jewelry, white tie often indicates your finest jewels, while black tie is simpler - typically only earrings and a bracelet. One must consider if there will be dancing afterwards, as larger pieces of jewelry will be in the way. For this particular dinner, the most important question is the neckline of your gown: will you cautiously cover up your pulse, or will you answer your host's invitation with one of your own?
For those who prefer suits, the difference between the two is more substantial. For white tie, one requires a black wool tailcoat with satin or grosgrain lapels, matching trousers with a satin or grosgrain stripe down the side, a white pique waistcoat, a white shirt with a stiff bosom and a high, detachable wing collar, a white pique bowtie, black pumps or oxfords, along with the accessories of mother of pearl cufflinks and buttons, button on suspenders, and optional linen pocket-square, boutonniere (traditionally a carnation, but one might be careful and use an allium or a wild rose!), pocket-watch or fine wristwatch, and kidskin gloves. Whew! And that's not even looking at the outerwear. Black tie is somewhat easier - a simple tuxedo will do, and is easier to acquire through rental or purchase.
Dress suggestions: Jenny Yoo Ryland Dess, Anthropologie | Montreal Dress, Anthropologie
Suit Suggestions: White Tie, Tuxedos, Ladies Tuxedos
Cocktail and Semi-Formal
We now ease into something a little less formal. The cocktail and semi-formal require a suit (with pants or a skirt) or a dress that typically falls around knee-length, depending on your preferences and comfort. Cocktail usually requires a little more sparkle in terms of jewelry, while semi-formal is more toned down, but in the vast scheme of things these codes are similar enough to pass for one another. Neither are as in-depth as the white tie or black tie, so unless your host is a fastidious member of the old school, as they might be depending on how many centuries they've lived, you're probably safe treating them the same.
Dress Suggestions: Menen Swing Dress, Collectif | Amethyst Dress, The Reformation
Suit Suggestions: Hemsworth Stripe Suit, Indochino | The Georgie Black Suit, Kirrin Finch
No Dress Code
Should your invitation not carry any dress code, it's best to fall back on the cocktail dress. It's formal enough to carry you through black tie, and if you end up being a little overdressed for the evening, we have the advice of Oscar Wilde:
"If I am occasionally a little over-dressed, I make up for it by being always immensely over-educated."
Please note: unless you have been explicitly invited to dinner as the vampire's bride, this is not the occasion for the classic white gown that heroines so love - save that for racing down the corridors and into the night after dessert!
---
The Table
Your place will be laid out with utmost care for the courses that will be served that evening. If you are unsure where to start when the first course is served, the following diagram should assist. One usually starts from the outside in - the fork furthest to the left will be used with the knife furthest to the right, and in from there.
This table setting is missing the following: fish fork, fish knife, bread plate, butter knife
A formal table setting will go as follows, from left to right:
1. Fish fork
2. Dinner fork
3. Salad fork
4. Dinner plate with soup plate laid on top
5. Salad knife
6. Dinner knife
7. Fish knife
8. Soup spoon
9. Seafood fork
Above the plate you should find, from left to right:
1. Bread plate, with a butter knife laid across it
2. Dessert/coffee spoon
3. Dessert fork
4. Water goblet
5. Wine glass - there should be a glass for each type of wine served, following the same order of left to right as the courses continue through the meal. Either the host or a servant should pour, meaning you need not worry which glass is which. Remember to hold your wine glass by the stem so as not to warm the wine - if your host is holding theirs by the cup, that's likely because their 'wine' is already warm...
---
The Courses
Depending on the number of courses in your meal, you may find yourself a little overwhelmed. A dinner can range from one course to twelve! In hopes that your host is a bit impatient to get their own meal, we shall go with the more modern formal six course meal that matches the above place setting.
First course: Hor d'oeuvres
This is when one might expect the shellfish to be served - use the fork furthest to your right, after the spoons. Otherwise, hor d'oeuvres are typically designed to be eaten by hand.
Second course: Soup
When eating soup, it's best to fill your spoon while dragging it through the soup away from you - this way you can gently brush the bottom against the rim of the bowl to prevent drips. Your soup spoon will be first after the knives.
Third course: Fish
This is the most likely dish to be excluded from a full course dinner - as the entrée is often meat-based, some in the modern day think it's silly to have two meat courses. However, in olden days fish was not considered a 'meat', and therefore had a place in the full course meal. Your fish fork will be the furthest fork to the left, and your fish fork will be the furthest knife to the right.
Fourth course: Main Course
The pièce de résistance of the meal, this will be the most extravagant and richest part of the meal - it can range from a ham to a risotto to a chicken. For this you will use the dinner fork second from the plate to the left, and the dinner knife next to the plate to the right.
Fifth course: Salad
Although typically a salad is served as an appetizer in restaurants, a full course meal will serve it after the entrée. Use the fork closest to the plate.
Sixth course: Dessert
For your dessert, you may find a trifle, a cake, a crème brûlée, or any other delicious sweet thing (past yourself). Use the fork or spoon above the plate.
If you suspect that your host is the flamboyant type who might wish to make a spectacle of your final meal, you may wish to research further into multi-course meals - one doesn't want to show too much shock when a sorbet appears mid-meal!
---
Manners
These are the basic manners that one should follow at the dinner table, regardless of how formal or informal your dinner is. Though obviously your own manners are dictated by who you are with and your own culture, if you are invited to a meal in a castle with a strange and eerie host, it's best to play on the safe side, whether you're having roast mutton or burgers - or if they're having you.
One should only use your mouth for three things: conversing, chewing, and drinking, and your mouth should only be open for the first. No picking your teeth, or spitting, or smoking, or singing Love Song for a Vampire in an attempt to seduce your host. Use your utensils with grace - do not use them to rip at your food and make sure to cut only small, bite-sized pieces at a time lest the ghost of Miss A's grandmother appear to slap your hand for putting too much in your mouth at once! Only tuck the knife up your sleeve for later after the main course and if you know it's true silver. If anything is further than an extended arm's reach away, ask for it to be passed to you - do not reach or loom over the table. Elbows are not to be on the table except while conversing between courses, which is easy to avoid as long you avoid slouching. And of course, do not check your phone until you are away from the table - unless you are sending a coded emergency request for help. (🧛🦇😱💀🏰!!!)
Dining together is rarely done just for the food - conversation is often more thrilling than what you're eating! It may even have been centuries since your host last had an invigorating discourse. Easy topics include the host's home and décor - how long has the manor been in the family, and whose foreboding portraiture is that hanging on the wall? If you're a little more daring, you might even ask for a tour afterwards, and mention which views from the upper floors you'd like to see best - the rose garden, or the canopy of their bed? One of the best pieces of advice your governess has heard is to ask open-ended questions, and always follow up with another question. This assists in helping the conversation flow and finding common ground.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My host does not drink wine - is it alright if I have a glass, at their insistence?
A: Typically a guest will follow the lead of the host. Should the host not drink... wine, the guest should not imbibe either. However, if the host is insistent that their sobriety need not hamper your choices, you may go ahead and have that glass of bordeaux - provided it is, indeed, bordeaux.
Q: Should my napkin go on my lap or be tucked into my collar?
A: The correct way to lay your napkin is across your lap, but if you intend on being your host's dessert, politeness and concern for your outfit might suggest tucking your napkin into your collar at that time.
Q: My host is of a non-Western culture - what do I need to know for etiquette?
A: Alas, Miss A's experience and training only taught her the dining habits of the nosferatu, the striga, and the vampir - if your host is a jiangshi or an adze, Miss A is at a loss. This website has a quick guide to international table etiquette and links to more specific regional advice.

One by one, the crew members entered through the bronze door.
“You can hang your coats and hats on the hangers to your left,” the woman instructed, and they followed suit.
The interior of the house had a luxurious aspect to it. The furniture was covered in white fabric, the fireplace had a carved, wooden mantle with a buffalo’s head hanging over it, and the walls were lined with various paintings and marble statues. The floor was a white and black marble with intricately designed carpets covering various spots in the main area. A marble staircase was leading up to a second floor, the railing being a polished wood; and a crystal chandelier glittered from the ceiling.
“Fancy,” Phoebe commented after hanging her coat and setting her umbrella in the umbrella holder.
“I’ll alert the professor you’ve arrived,” the woman said.
“No need, Dalia,” a voice objected from the top of the stairs. “I saw them walking up the path.”
A fairly tall man stood at the top of the staircase. He appeared to be middle-aged with chestnut brown hair and graying at the temples. A dark mustache sat right above his top lip, and his glasses were placed firmly on his nose. He was dressed in light khaki pants, a brown sweater, and a white lab coat with brown dress shoes covering his feet.
“Dr. Steinbeck,” Hongjoong bowed, the rest of crew copying him.
“My goodness, Hongjoong,” the professor smiled as he stepped down the stairs. “How long has it been since I last saw you? Twelve years?”
“I believe so.” He shook the professor’s hand.
“Your father, God rest his soul, often spoke about how you wanted to be the captain of the ship someday.”
“I just hope I am making him proud by doing so.”
“And who are your friends?” Dr. Steinbeck noticed the crew behind the captain.
Hongjoong brought Dahae forward. “This is my fiancée, Dahae.”
“Nice to meet you, professor,” she greeted.
“Pleasure’s all mine, my dear,” the professor returned.
Hongjoong went down the line as he introduced his members. “This is my first mate Seonghwa and his fiancée Grace-Anne. Our quartermaster and medic Yeosang and his girlfriend Phoebe. Our engineer Yunho. Our weapons master and gunman Jongho. The HALA’s pilot Mingi and his girlfriend Taeran. Our physicist Wooyoung and his girlfriend and barrelman Dinah. And our navigation expert San and his wife Celestia.” The captain motioned towards her baby bump. “And this is their daughter.”
The professor’s eyes immediately went to Celestia’s necklace. San took note and scooted closer to her, wrapping an arm around her waist.
“Quite a team you have, I must say.”
“Thank you.”
“Shall we head to my lab?” The professor began to lead the way.
The young woman, now identified as Dalia, walked up to Celestia and asked, “Do you need to sit down, darling?”
“I appreciate it, but I’m alright,” Celestia politely declined. “I’ll let you know if I do.”
Dalia nodded and walked into another room.
The house seemed like any normal one would be. A few pictures hung on the wall displaying family pictures and some achievements. Awards also displayed some of the professor’s accomplishments, and a few doors in the hallway lead to various rooms. They entered another living room, decorated just as luxuriously as the first one, and they were lead to a pair of double doors. A black screen brightened up next to the doors. The professor punched in a code, and a voice said, “Welcome, professor.”
Dr. Steinbeck turned towards the crew. “Ladies and gents, welcome to the Wonder.”
The doors slid open, revealing a brightly lit room filled with artifacts on tables, stored in shelves and some boxes placed under tables. Some tools littered the tables, and a sparkling crown could be seen up front. Other artifacts displayed were a box full of gold coins, an ancient tablet with Latin writings scratched on the surface, and some Greek pottery. Study equipment were sitting on each table as if ready to be used for exam the artifacts. The crew wandered around the lab, gawking and taking in the entire set up but careful not to touch anything as their captain had instructed.
The lab intrigued Celestia the most. Only when she was alone in her room was she able to study her findings, but never in such delicacy as the real archaeologists do. All she had were a few tools and some scrolls she found on her and San’s secret honeymoon in Dubai.
“This is amazing,” she exclaimed as she examined one of the pots, her hands resting on her belly. “And you’ve accomplished all of this in a thirty year time period?”
“It’s only a fraction of what I’ve found,” Dr. Steinbeck claimed. “Everything else is at the main lab by the museum. This is only if I’m trying decipher something big, or if I just want to study something.”
“Is this why you’ve asked us here?” Dahae asked.
“The deciphering part, yes.”
“Lunch is ready, sir,” Dalia announced from the doorway.
“Thank you, but please knock next time, Dalia.”
“Sorry, sir.” She scurried away.
The dining room was just as fancy as the rest of the first floor of the house. A large window revealed a beautiful view of the city, however it was still raining pretty hard. A long wooden table stretched out from one each of the room to the other, and it was able to seat at least twenty people, which was more than enough for the crew. Red placemats were placed at each spot and a plate of salmon, sweet potatoes, and blackberries on top; and a glass of water stood by each meal. Dr. Steinbeck sat at one end of the table, and the crew sitting at the sides with Hongjoong and Seonghwa seated closest to him.
Dalia was in and out of the kitchen and running around the table tending to everyone’s needs. She was their designated waitress for the time being. Yunho couldn’t seem to take his eyes off of her, and everyone else could see why. She was a beauty with smooth caramel skin, sparkling brown eyes, and an aura that radiated warmth and love.
“So what is it you need our help with?” Hongjoong asked after swallowing a piece of salmon. “In your email, you didn’t exactly say what was happening.”
“Well, for starters, with all the talk of hackers these days, you can’t be too careful,” the professor chuckled at his own joke.
“Yeah, I don’t feel attacked,” Phoebe whispered to Yeosang.
“In all seriousness,” Dr. Steinbeck continued, “I was on an expedition in the Conga a few weeks ago, and in one of the scrolls I found, it talked about a diamond so rare and precious that it was cut up into eight different pieces and scattered across the world. So far, only three have been found. Two of them are housed in the Smithsonian in the States. The third one has been missing for about seventy-eight years. No one knows how it disappeared, but some speculate it was either stolen or possibly lost in the transport to the Smithsonian.”
“What about the other five?” Dahae asked. “Has anyone else tried to find them?”
“No. As of now, I’m the only archaeologist in the world who has attempted to do so. However, I have been having trouble decoding some of the clues in the scrolls that reveal the locations of the diamonds. That’s why I contacted you.”
“What made you decide on us?” Celestia asked. “We just like traveling and making discoveries. We’re nothing special.”
“Oh, on the contrary, dear.” He took a sip of his drink before continuing. “When I heard of your most recent discoveries in Peru and Guatemala, I knew I had discovered the perfect team to take on this quest. I’d go on the adventure myself, but I hurt my back on that same dig in the Conga. My doctor wants me resting.”
His eyes wandered back to Celestia’s neck.
“Forgive me for staring, love,” he apologized, “but that is quite a beautiful necklace.”
“Thank you,” she replied. “It was grandmother’s, and then she passed it down to me before she died.”
The professor nodded, his wrinkling face showing wheels turning in his mind. “Do you know where she got it?”
“My grandfather gave it to her the night before they got married, but he never told anyone where he got it.”
“I see.”
Taeran sensed something was off, but decided not to jump to conclusions. If he had hurt his back in Ethiopia, how could he have walked down the stairs so well? Maybe he’s going through physical therapy? However, he didn’t have a cane.
“Anyhow,” the professor continued, “would you all be willing to take on this quest?”
Hongjoong looked around at his crew, all of their eyes filled with hope. He knew his crewmates. Something like this could benefit them all financially in their own ways: San and Celestia could rebuild their old house if they wanted to return home, Grace-Anne and Seonghwa could fund their wedding, Phoebe could pay off her grandfather’s medical bills, and the list goes on. The only downsides were, however, this was going to be much riskier than previous explorations, and Celestia’s pregnancy was the cherry on top.
The captain was hesitant to answer; but if they were going to take this journey, then they were going to have to do what he said without question. Their safety and wellbeing mattered the most to him.
“We will go,” he finally answered, shaking the professor’s hand.

🎶K-pop Playlist for those who Lost a Loved One
Loosing a loved one .. the most painful feeling ever I ever felt for the 17 years of my life.
A month ago, I was at school taking my midterms when my grandmother unexpectedly left this world. I still remember that day clearly 03/03/2020, I was about to go home after midterms when my aunt told me…. my grandmother has left this world, I couldn’t believe it …. I remember weeping, and throwing up everywhere. I didn’t say goodbye to her that morning before going to school and guess what ….. it is true those quotes where they say …. you’ll regret not saying I love you to the ones you love when their gone.Thinking about it now …. I know there are probably tons of people whom are suffering through the same sadness and grief I am feeling , so here are the songs I listened to that made me remind me of my one and only grandmother… and some ways to remember your lost loved one
1.) Missing You by: BTOB
Yes, it is supposed to be for a lover but honestly go ahead and click the link and listen plus go and read the lyrics. There were 2 songs that made me cry when my grandmother suddenly left this world and one of them was this song. The lyrics went like this ..
“ A whole day went by missing you A whole year went by missing you. I just live like that Missing you missing”
The song portrays a person thinking they could live on without the person they love , but soon afterwards realizing that, the reality is they could not move on and knowing that it’s too late.
I promise you guys to go check it out and understand the message of the song. It’s a beautiful masterpiece.
2.) I’ll Smile Even If It Hurts by: Ladies Code
The 2nd song that made me cry like a lot would be this piece. You guys might have heard of the sad news from 2014 when ladies code lost 2 of their members. But if you have lost a loved one, this song is the main deal. The lyrics are the real deal when my heart was in pain, one of the lyrics that tugged my heart would be…
“ I still can’t believe it It feels like I could still see you I tell myself that it’s a lie The fact that you left my side Your face that’s smiling in the photo The past days that seemed would last forever But one day, suddenly You left my side But I won’t cry, so you won’t feel bad I’ll try living without you now No matter how much it hurts, even if tears keep coming I wanna smile, I wanna think of you and smile”
The song portrays a person in grief after loosing a loved one, and although their heart hurts they promise to smile and move on while missing the person that left this world suddenly.
This will be my number 1 recommended song so go check it out. It’s okay to cry so just let it out.
3.) White Night by : NCT 127
I know…. it’s supposed to be a love song that’s angsty but seriously though, not all love songs an be ‘love’ songs…. you can look at it at another perspective. The lyrics that caught my eye would be ….
“ I`m still doing this and I`m in the memory Of not being able to sleep Walking looking for you And staying up all night again”
“ I try to meet you in my dreams When I try to sleep All my time Today”
The song portrays a individual hoping to reunite with the one they love even if it is through their dreams.
If you guys are NCTzens…. then that would be better. #YUTAGOTLINES I recommend you to listen to this track at night though, cause it’s pure sad.
4.) Goodbye by: Red Velvet’s Wendy
another love-ish song but, this time the melody will make you cry. Wendy’s solo track for the OST album for the drama ‘The Beauty Inside’ .I haven’t watched the drama yet but I have watched some clips and one particular quote got my attention. The leading character’s mother passed away and one of the characters came to visit and she said these lines…
“Now what will you do? Your mom passed away as well? ….. After a tough experience meaningless consolation were all useless, It was like that for me. ‘Stay strong’ , ‘Cheer up’. Rather than those words…. ‘Now how and in what way will you live?’.The person that said so remained memorable in my heart.”
- Kang Sa Ra (The Beauty Inside)
Back to the song… here are lyrics that caught my attention …..
“ I’m right here But can’t you see me? I missed you so much I waited for a long time I can’t reach you So I’m just standing here Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, goodbye”
The song portrays a individual scared of hurting the one they long for again so instead they watch over them from a far place but instead says a goodbye to them only hoping for their loved one to remember them as time passes.
Wendy OST queen
5.) Always by: Red Velvet’s Seulgi
This one made me cry while writing on my journal…. yes I do have a journal dedicated to my grandmother i’ll write about it when I have time.
Our Revel members made me cry and emotional . When I listen to the songs they sing … it made me remember all the things I should have done and all the unsaid words I should have said before everything just ended… Anyways here are the lyrics that I loved…
“ We’re a bit far apart today But let me send my heart with the blowing wind My love, don’t be sad Our story Is endless and beautiful “
The song portrays a individual in their own point of view , saying they would meet again with the one they love, and even if it may take centuries or years , the person promises to live until that moment and when they meet again they will spend an eternity with each other
Now this song really made me cry, when I was in the funeral home I promised my grandmother in front of her casket that I would live well and make her proud. I said to her that when the time comes one day when I have to leave this world as well… I wish that in that world we would be together where death will not exist and we will live in that world happily without problems and sadness.
6.) Christmas Without You by: Taeyeon
Taeyeon is the real ost queen but here is another one of her tracks that made me remember my grandma once again. I found out 2 days ago that in our tradition we can’t celebrate any birthdays, holidays and give out gifts for 2 whole years. Yes, It is a sign of mourning but here is a emotional lyric for all of you …
“ That first December when it unexpectedly snowed The holidays that we spent together That winter, we were happy with whatever we did Our eyes held each other All the memories with your warmth Comes to me at the end of the cold wind The season has come outside the window I can’t avoid it anymore” “ The whole world is Christmas but I’m without you Dazzling Christmas but I’m without you After a sad day passes Without being with you I’m falling asleep alone, without you”
The song conveys a message where winter and Christmas is put in the story conveying a sad story where the main character just lost someone they love dearly but now it will be the first Christmas without that person.
Now this is pure sadness cause taeyeon is pure sadness …
7.) This Christmas by: Taeyeon
Another Taeyeon song for you. She originally released this song for her father, thinking about how different it was when she was young and now to when she has grown into an adult.
A similar story to mine is that, I am dumb honestly … I was always rude to my grandmother when she was still here and believe me when I say I regret it a lot.I love her a lot and my heart hurts a lot every time I think about it but I promised her that I will not feel sad for her and will continue to live my life so she would be proud… so now ask yourself if that person you just lost would want you to cry and just lock yourself up because you regret… your guilty…
here are the lyrics that caught my attention ….
“ Christmas, a dream-like Christmas I want to remember The growing trembling at your sweet whispers Christmas, when you were here, Merry Christmas I’ll give you earnest heart that I thought would last forever I pray on This Christmas”
The song conveys a message where it’s finally Christmas and the singer flashbacks to the time and memories with a loved one
8.) Every Day Every Moment by: Paul Kim
This song well you can look at it in another perspective…
This track is from the OST album of the drama ‘Should We Kiss First?’. Its a emotional filled song , another reminder you can look at the songs in another perspective.
For me my grandmother is the comforting arms to the end of the day she was a light from heaven, always comforting everyone with her smile, food, and her humor. And if only I could be with her , I would tell her that she is a sunshine to all of us. Here is the lyrics that tugged my heartstrings…
“ In my anxious and suffering life You came to me like a ray of light and made me smile You alone are enough for me Because there’s no need for words, I know by your eyes Flowers bloom and wither Every day, every moment, let’s be together”
The song portrays a story where the singer talks about a certain person that comforts them and he/ she talks about how that person is enough for them and they would be together with each other.
9.) So Long by: Paul Kim
Yes, another Paul Kim song but this time out of all the songs in this playlist this one stays in my heart.
It was when ‘Hotel Del Luna’ was still airing at South Korea when I patiently waited for each episode every week and this song has a perfect message that made me cry everytime I listened to it, here are the lyrics….
“ Goodbye, goodbye now I just can’t say those words My heart is filled with you The only thing I could do Is to love you I hope I can see you again” “ Our encounter was short But you made me blossom like destiny I’ll dream of you every night But as much as this longing fills me There’s only one wish I have Please stay by my side”
The song has a emotion filled message wherein the singer say a tear-filled goodbye to a departed loved one, the singer believes and hopes that one day they will meet again, in the mean time he only hopes to see that loved one through his/ her dreams.
10.) Coming Home by: NCT U
Yes, another NCT song… this song is quite underated though.
But yes, its another song to soothe you in the mourning and grieving you are going through.
Here are some lyrics..
“ When I walked for a while On the snowy street I turned around and you were looking at me Even when my time is up I will go to you And we’ll go back home where it’s warm”
The song talks about how a certain loved one is the singer’s only comfort and when they are tired and are ready to rest they will return to their home.. whom is that loved one.
The thing is ….. It’s hard
Loosing someone who you’ve been with for the whole of your life and the only way after loosing them is grieving and mourning. I am still mourning up till now , the thing is …. I honestly still can’t accept it and I still want to turn back time and tell her all the things I should’ve told her … but thinking about it now It’s better this way at least now she’s not suffering.
I know how hard it is so hang in there … giving you guys a virtual hug and I got some suggestions to remember your loved ones, I recently started a journal where I constantly write letters to my grandmother, I add stickers , designs and quotes plus English translations of the songs that remind me of her .
It’s a way to remember our loved ones and a lesson learned for the future.
I have many songs in my playlist… so if you want more suggestions go ahead and message me.
And if you guys ever need someone to talk to… just go ahead and message me.
Stay strong luvs

Will Session Prices Go Down?
I felt compelled to write a post today because of a link that has been forwarded to me, of a forum discussion on MaxFisch, and I was asked for my opinion. Since I am not a member on that forum, I will make a post here. The topic of this discussion was whether the BDSM session prices will go down after the quarantine. The link to the discussion forum is below:
http://www.maxfisch.com/thehang/ubbthreads.php/topics/1751558
Here are my 2p about that:
Whenever I am asked about pricing and pricing strategies, I always make an example of a Prada bag:
Will Prada bags be 50% cheaper after this lockdown? Because, you know, Prada needs to make money... And pay store rents...And, you know, new bag makers are entering the market every day... And, you know, because there will be a recession? Will they be 40% cheaper? 30% cheaper?
Or will they remain roughly the same price they’ve been for last 50 years, inflation adjusted, and leave the localised market if it becomes not cost-effective?
Now, my personal prediction is that Prada bags will cost the same they have always cost. But you’d be able to score a bag, capable of carrying things just as much as a Prada bag, in Primark for £1.
Did the ‘invention’ of Primark make Prada drop their bag prices? Did Primark make Prada go out of business? Lose business? Did Primark steal Prada’s core client base through poaching and undercutting? I think we all know the answer to those questions...
There are Ladies who charge north of £1K per session, and did, are doing, and will do splendidly well while running a waiting list, and there are those who couldn’t find a client for £50 even before SESTA/FOSTA, COVID-19 and the Incoming Recession were in existence. That has always been the case, that will always be the case. There is no judgement being passed about it, this is just the reality of things.
Many answers in the thread seem to have their expectations and estimates based on the perception that all Dommes have just one source of income, are chained to a radiator within their post code, and only ever do RL sessions. Out of the top Dommes that I know, not one has only one stream of income. Most of us have diversified if not into other businesses and investments then within the s3x industry itself, through clips, online sessions or fan sites years and years ago.
Yes, Domme Business is different to Bag Business. But as it is a BUSINESS there are more similarities than there are differences. And those Dommes who were good at Business and Marketing before quarantine are good at it during and will continue being good at it after quarantine, during recession, after recession and up until their eventual early retirement.
There is also some hope noticeable in the posts that there will be a huge influx of “new dommes” on the market because of unemployment as apparently there is no entry barrier to the industry. I hate to burst the bubble, both for the prospective dommes, and for their prospective clients, but Domination is not the first port of call for the unskilled and the unemployed. Far from it. There was a mention of a surge after 50 Shades of Grey as an example. What the kind gentleman who mentioned it has forgotten is that it was BEFORE SESTA/FOSTA. I myself have started when the only entry requirement for a Pro Domme were 5 pictures and an ability to string three sentences on a BackPage ad. That time, and that site, have long gone the way of the dodo. Seen Bonding? I am still waiting for the “tens of thousands of new dommes” to materialise after that...
To enter the profession now, you need solid knowledge of Business Admin and Marketing, hefty skill set of creating, curating and maintaining a website and all the costs involved in that should own skills be insufficient, heavy advertising costs to place that website on the advertising sites, creating and maintaining highly marketable online content, both free and for paid platforms, maintaining half a dozen of social media profiles on various platforms while constantly dodging censure, shadow banning and downright deletion of accounts, not to mention looking good and well-presented, being confident, and having the necessary toys and/or access to dungeons. And A LOT of hard work. Which, in the time of a recession, will not bear much fruit at all. And no, you do not get a business loan from a bank for this line of work. Most of those who are forced into s3x work by circumstances do not venture into Domination, now even more than before, but stick to traditional fields, where a pink thong and some baby oil will often do the trick.
But what about the Recession, then, and the “shrinking of client base”? Now, that is clearly written by someone who is expecting the middle class to literally die out. I can explain this with a simple chart:
This is how I see the distribution of wealth and income now, and after the Great Quarantine of 2020. The world will indeed become poorer, much like during the Financial Crisis of 2008, through lower middle class and working class sliding down the income ladder.
Those who are wealthy and affluent now are not going to wake up in two weeks and find themselves on the dole, or looking for a job at McDonalds. Why? Because they are usually very highly skilled, high earning individuals and have diversified income, investments, savings, pension funds et al. Yes, their stock portfolio might (and I say might!) take a hit. But it will not suddenly make them destitute. It just means that, for 2020, they might make a bit less money. But, 80% of a million is still 800K, and 80% of a thousand is 800. See the difference?
Now, let’s talk about me, for a minute, and my own business model, pricing strategy, cost control and target market/client base:
I chose to move to a low income, low cost of living, high quality of life country. By choice, and for those very reasons. But I neither work on the “local market” nor for it! I charge five times what the average price per session is here, and my daily rate is higher than an average national monthly income. Exactly one of my current clients lives in the same country, and he pays me my rate. The rest of my clients are foreign, and either fly in to see me, or fly me out to join them in their endeavors elsewhere, and yes, they all know they can find someone much cheaper.
But “cheaper” is not what they are after. Those buying Bentleys don’t price in a Seat Leon, just in case. ALL of my current clients are my regular clients, and they bring me much joy even in these dark times! If they enjoy being my subjects even half as much as I enjoy being their Mistress they will remain my clients for years to come. And those who couldn’t afford my rates before the pandemic won’t be able to afford them after.
But how will the Great Quarantine of 2020 and the Incoming Economic Depression affect me and my business? Let’s see!
I personally do not know whether I will be able to see my clients this year, because even if the isolation orders are lifted, no one has cancelled the disease itself. I might get ill. They might get ill. Up until a vaccine or an easy treatment is invented all travel is in a precarious state, as are all sessions. At your own risk, as they say! I’d risk it for my regulars to a degree, but there are limits to everything, and I certainly wouldn’t want them to risk their lives and health for a session.
That said, we do not know what travelling post-quarantine will even look like. If I am required to spend 2 weeks in a lock down every time I have to take an international flight -- I am unlikely to be flying anywhere at all. If it goes back to pre-quarantine simplicity then it is a different story and I will be back to posting my Michelin starred client dinners from different cities in no time. But what if not?
Well, here comes the trick: remember I was talking about the diversified streams of income? While most people were busy with Netflix, I have used my quarantine time in to push for passive income, offering a product that is significantly cheaper than my RL sessions and client fees, but aimed at a much wider target market segment.
I am proud to say that currently my cost of living gets covered by pure passive income in 20 calendar days. That is, I can fall into a coma for a month, and on day 20 of me being in a coma, all my bills and expenses will be covered, and I will wake up to 10 days of profit to get me to a SPA and treat me to some nice meals and still have some left over. And this is passive income. Online sessions are an entirely different thing, in addition to passive income.
What does that mean? It means that I do not NEED to have another RL session at all, EVER, even at my rate, if I do not wish to. I can retire. And if I cannot travel, I will happily spend my time developing and scaling up my online and passive income sides of business further, while sipping cocktails by the sea, in the safety of my own terrace and avocado tree.
So when people ask whether sessions will become cheaper after this Quarantine, I just smile. Thing is, you WILL be able get cheaper sessions after this. But you could get them before this, too! There are, there have been, and there will always be cheap providers. Of everything. And if you are into “cheap cheap” you will always be spoiled for choice.
But it won’t come from established and business savvy dominatrices. Top ranks can afford to step away from the RL sessions altogether, for the risks involved, or only see their regular and trusted clients, at same rate or higher. Mid-range and upcoming will be likely to raise rates while diversifying to compensate for potential loss of foot traffic. And the cheaper ones will join the newcomers in the race to the bottom.
You know that saying, if you have to ask how much something costs -- you cannot afford it? :) Still goes!

Ch. 2
Pairing: Sophia x Fenrir
Hey look, I actually completed another thing! Thanks to @plumpblueberry for loving my ocs as much as I do! <3
Sophia didn’t care for the wild party that had been thrown in her honor. Meaningless comradery. Having been at headquarters for only two hours, it seemed inappropriate to be celebrating her. She didn’t drink in excess either, knowing how alcohol affected the human body in large quantities turned her away from it. How long was this meant to last? Surely not much longer.
“A doctor that doesn’t drink, that’s a rare sight,” Sirius commented, joining her at the edge of the crowded room. Her sour expression made him worry that she would dislike the army more than before.
Her eyes flickered to him then back to the rowdy room before her. “I drink, occasionally.” She hadn’t the slightest urge to join in.
Sirius laughed. “You marked on our contract. Something you don’t like, little lady?” An entire paragraph had been struck through, maybe more. He could only see a little of the paper that she’d tugged under her arm. Never in his time in the army had a recruit marked up the contract of service, though something told him that this woman would not fit the mold of a normal recruit.
“I dislike nicknames. Sophia is perfectly acceptable.” Nicknames meant closeness, a bond that came over time. Neither of those things applied in her current position. Sophia stepped expertly out of the path of a drunken soldier coming up behind her as smoothly as one would move to a Waltz and fell back into her spot beside the Queen of Spades.
Another light chuckle passed his lips, clearly impressed with her. “You’ll fit in just fine here, Sophia.” He imagined it would take some getting used to, but someday, she might begin to feel at ease here. Nodding his head at the document, he asked, “If you’d like to discuss it, I’m free.”
The two relocated up to the office for a quieter and more private place to speak. Allowing him a moment to scan over her correction to the form, Sophia began to explain, “I took an oath as a doctor to do no harm, no matter who the patient may be. Impartial treatment. Just because I agreed to this job, doesn’t mean that I will be a soldier. I’m a doctor.”
Sirius listened with a soft smile. He saw no reason to enforce that code when he himself did not partake in fighting often. “I think we can arrange for that to be cut from the contract and your revision made.” He scanned the writing once again, bringing up the next clause. “You want to continue working for the clinic in your free time?”
“I’ll be passing my chief of staff position to another capable doctor at the clinic, but I see no reason to send in a resignation when there will be times that I can still be there to assist in taking care of patients. Our clinic is the best in Central Quarter, and as such, we get quite a lot of patients and there aren’t enough qualified doctors in Cradle to care for them,” Sophia said. It had been quite rundown when she first arrived there after medical school, having 5 staff members with only one doctor.
Rising from the chair, she strapped her medical bag over her torso. Officially on active duty as the Black Army doctor at 8 AM the following morning, it left the remainder of the night shift open for her to work. Sirius promised to cover for her, though the rest of the men were probably too drunk to notice her absence.
Her pause at the door drew his attention. “There’s one more request I’d like to make.”
***
Central Quarter had been nearly abandoned at this hour. Shop windows were darkened, stalls cleared of all their products, awaiting the dawn of a new day. Only a handful of business had lights on: bars, clubs, and the clinic at which she worked. They were the only center in town that stayed open all night. The door creaked as she entered, announcing her arrival happily.
Passing through the waiting room, Sophia glanced over the handful of patients waiting to be seen. A few too many for her liking. Was this how the clinic would be run without her in charge? “We will be with you shortly, thank you for waiting patiently,” Sophia offered, all eyes turning on her. Many of the faces familiar.
A murmur of thank yous filled the space. Sophia entered the single door that led to the main trauma room, a half circle room with many exam rooms lining it. The nurses at the desk never lifted their heads, as if avoiding her gaze entirely. Odd behavior on their part, as the station was the main hub of chatter.
Intent on simply grabbing a patient file and setting to work, Sophia only gave a short greeting. Something was amiss.
The rustling of her bag drew her pale blue eyes downward, much too late to stop her colleague from snatching the first page of the contract. A quick skim brought a lopsided grin to his face. “Congratulations, Sophia! You’re officially the Black Army Doctor!”
Party poppers exploded around her, the nurses having been diligently awaiting the verdict. The rain of colorful confetti floated around the unamused doctor. “I’m glad that in my absence, the clinic will be in the hands of you lot.” Her hands picked at the pieces sticking to her raven hair. Highly unsanitary, yet it did bring the softest of smiles to her lips.
A round of congratulations broke out among the staff and some regular patients loitering around the check in desk. The spectacle growing bigger by the second. Sophia shook her head, holding back the laughter from their antics. “Don’t get too excited, you aren’t getting rid of me completely.”
“But you took the job, right?” Carter asked, waving the paper around as if reminding her of her own decision.
“Yes, but I will still be here from time to time, and you can always send for me,” She answered, continuing to pick pieces of confetti from her hair. Some were so tiny that it would near impossible to remove them all.
Carter gave a dramatic sigh. “Damn.”
“Don’t look so disappointed.”
The doors to the largest trauma room burst open, Marius in a frenzy. “Dr. Emerson! We have a problem. He’s crashing!” He called, shattering the light atmosphere.
Everyone moved in sync, practiced movements like a well-oiled machine. Sophia tied her hair back, snatching some gloves from a box fixed on the wall just before entering the room. Blood had begun to drip off the table, staining the white floors.
The man, Jeff Grant, had been opened on the table, the source of his bleeding come from an organ. Marius gave a hasty overview. A farming accident, barbed wire embedded in his stomach, but it had all been removed. The bleeding had been under control until a few moments ago. “I can’t find where it’s coming from. It’s too hard to see.”
“You can’t always use your eyes, Marius,” Sophia said, dipping her hand in to move the intestines out of the way. With her free hand, she prodded at the organs buried underneath. The clock was ticking. Soon, he would bleed out on the table. “Kayla, hang another bag of A positive blood. Alright, there’s a large tear in his pancreas. We need to stitch it up or he’s going to die. Marius, prep.”
His ocean blue eyes widened at her words. He had only graduated medical school a year ago and started his residency just after. “You want me to do it?” Kayla laid out the tools neatly on a rolling tray, sliding them up next to him.
Sophia’s sharp gaze rose from the patient to him. “You learn by doing. You want your patient to live, stitch him up. You’ve studied this. Now, Marius. He has five minutes before his blood volume is too low to reverse and he will be dead on this table.” She had faith in her employees, doctors and nurses alike.
Marius took a deep breath, nodding at her words. Though his mind wavered, steady hands took to the task. Sophia walked him through each step, relaying the process.
“You can’t go in there!” A shout came from just outside the door. Seconds later it burst open.
An out of breath Black Army soldier straightened up as best he could, despite having run all the way from headquarters to find her. “King Ray is calling you to the Garden. I was sent to escort you.” He gave a salute, out of respect for the new officer.
“Wait out front.” Her answer came short and with no visible signs that she would be leaving.
“It’s a direct order—” His sentence stopped at the cold gaze that greeted him. He went rigid, unsure of how to proceed.
Sophia would not be overrun by a mere soldier. This clinic might not be under her command anymore, but this soldier surely was. “Mr. Grant is going to bleed out if I let go of his intestines and Marius can’t stitch up the pancreas. So, unless you would like to take my place, I suggest you leave immediately.” His silence only infuriated her more. “Do I need to make it my first official order as the 5 of Spades?” Venom dripped from her threat.
The soldier fled, briskly exiting the room with a pale face.
“Kayla, can you get Carter in here?” Sophia requested. It would be a pain to have to deal with any backlash from being so late, but the patient came first. She was not going to let Mr. Grant die for a meeting.
Moments later, Carter whisked into the trauma room, a wicked grin gracing his features. “Is my damsel in distress?” He asked, stopping at her side. He would so miss getting to tease her as often as he had been used to. Though, the title of Chief of Staff sat well with him.
“Very funny.” Her blue eyes rolled, the signature response to his behavior. “Marius needs to close; the pancreas has been repaired. I have to step out.” She hated this, leaving a patient. Her commitment to the army was official, and she had to respect that.
“Duty calls?”
With a nod, Sophia reluctantly stepped away, disposing of her gloves. The Civic Center a mere five-minute walk away. The soldier sent to escort her never spoke a word, his face marked with unease. The Garden was a place where both armies came to meet, their top 13 leaders. The scowl grew deeper on her features.
He would be there.
A small mystery. Who’s it gonna be? Who in the Red Army does she not want to see?

GEORGIA
2021 Mar 17 (Wed) – We took a tour of the Rose Lawn Museum, a Victorian house built as a 2-story cottage in 1860. In 1885, Sam Jones bought the house and in 1895, he raised the house and built another story underneath it on the first floor. This is the first house that I have ever seen that. Usually, a story is added ON TOP of an existing building, not under it. It was a beautiful home. Samuel Proctor Jones was a Methodist evangelist who toured around the country, drawing thousands of people to revival meetings. They say he was the Billy Graham of his time, before Billy Graham.
We then drove to the Booth Western Art Museum. That was a wonderful place. It had 3 stories and was full of old west pictures, sculptures and artifacts. They had two original stage coaches from the Butterfield Overland Company. There was a section that exhibited pictures/photos of every president along with a brief 4 or 5 point summary of what set that president aside as special. One was noted for his big feet (size 14) and another for his weight (337 pounds). Most were noted for being the first of something.
After the museum, we drove into Cartersville and had lunch at the City Cellar and Loft. We were seated in the basement with brick and heavy dark wood. It felt very Irish but they had no corned beef and cabbage. I had steak and Paul had fried chicken. Everything was very good. In fact, the potato soup was so good that we bought a quart to take home. Then we had to go to Kroger Supermarket to pick up a nice crusty bread to have with the soup for dinner. While there, we picked up some wine and filled up the truck. We had thirty cents off a gallon earned in points.
When we got back to the campground, we drove around to look at some of the cottages for rent. They are in the process of building new cottages. It looks like campgrounds everywhere have discovered they make more money by renting cottages than campsites.
2021 Mar 16 (Tue) – It was a cold, rainy day. We went to the Southern Museum of the Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw. It was quite a museum. The Civil War was retold in detail and in dispassionate accuracy. It was not maudlin or depressive. The story was simply told as the war happened. There was a lot of locomotive history interwoven with the Civil War as well as the growth and reconstruction of the south. We spent about 3 hours touring the museum.
After the museum, we went to The Nest for lunch. It was a barbecue place. There was no one in the cafe. When I asked the waitress about it, she said everyone was in earlier in the day. We were late for lunch – it was after 2:30 p.m. The food was OK. My ribs were tough and leathery.
As we were headed back to the campground, we decided to peel off and see the Allatoona Dam. The visitor’s center was closed. The base of the dam was not that impressive so we decided to drive around to the other side of the dam. The route was over ten miles but we got there and it was a lot more impressive. There was also the remains of a furnace from the Cooper Iron Works. It was a massive stone structure that had been used to smelt iron.
2021 Mar 15 (Mon) – We drove into town to Etowah Mounds. The visitor center had a very nice introductory film about the Southeastern Indians. Without being maudlin, apologetic, or accusing, the film told the story of what happened to the Indians over the years from the first Spanish explorers to the white settlers that forced them away from their homes to reservations. Outside, there were three large mounds that were part of a large village hundreds of years ago. We climbed one of the mounds and looked over the area. There was a river that ran along beside the village area. It was certainly a perfect place to have a living area.
After the mounds, we went to lunch at Moore’s Gourmet Market. It was a small restaurant with a strong vegetarian bend. We ordered fried Brussel sprouts for an appetizer and sandwiches for lunch. My chicken salad was very mushy; I couldn’t taste any chicken. Paul’s pork tenderloin was very dry.
Following lunch, we made stops at Pet Smart to get dog and cat food, then at Kroger to pick up a few items. When we got back to the campground, Paul wandered around picking up wood for a campfire. There are a lots of trees down in the area. It looks like the park got hit with a strong windstorm and knocked a lot of trees over. We enjoyed a nice campfire until it started to sprinkle. The forecast for the next 3 days is rain. Guess it’s about time to start getting rain. We are coming into springtime.
2021 Mar 14 (Sun) – I sat working at the computer looking out the window and watching all the RVs pull out one by one. The place was about 2/3rds empty by the time we left at 11:30 am. We headed north to the Red Top Mountain State Park campground in Cartersville. The drive was about 3 hours and uneventful. The campground itself was challenging. The roads are narrow and winding with lots of trees bordering the roadway. We got turned around, wound up going to the visitor center, turning around, driving to the campground entrance only to find it gated, drove back to the office to check-in, got the gate code, and returned to the entrance. The gate did not open right away then the road to our campsite was narrow and winding. We finally got set up around 3 pm. It’s a nice site. Lots of woods around and we actually have a fire pit if we decide to have a campfire. Sheba likes the change in geography. The ground is covered in dead leaves and broken sticks and lots of dirt. No concrete or pavement.
2021 Mar 13 (Sat) – RVs are starting to slip away. I’ve been watching them drive away little by little. I guess they were right. All the RVs will just disappear.
We hung around the campground for most of the day. At 11 AM, we went to the RV exhibit to see the most expensive motorhome on display. It was gorgeous. The salesman said it was sold for about a million dollars. After drooling after the beautiful rig, we went food shopping at Kroger to pick up groceries.
At 6 pm we went over to Bo & Karen’s rig to say good-bye to them and John & Kathy but no one was home. Guess they went out for dinner. We then went to the evening’s entertainment for the night. The Grapevine, a 10-piece band with horns, was playing. They were pretty good.
2021 Mar 12 (Fri) – I went to a seminar about genealogy this morning. Paul and I went to lunch at the restaurant in the fairgrounds and had a bologna sandwich (tastes like Spam). At 3 PM, I took a 3-hour assignment to drive an activity cart. It was busier than the last two times I drove but I was glad when it was over. It was not as fun this time as the last time we did the driving.
At 7:30 PM, we went to the arena and watched a Josh Turner concert. It was good but we were tired and left after an hour.
2021 Mar 11 (Thu) – We went to a seminar on Smartphone Photography at 9 AM. It was interesting but we knew most everything they went over. After the seminar, we walked over to the exhibit area where there were many motorhomes on display by dealers. We wandered in and out of a few motorhomes but weren’t that impressed. There were a couple of Class C motorhomes (smaller RVs) that we looked through in order to get an idea of what the RV would look like that we will be renting in Australia.
I went to the Ladies Luncheon and Paul returned to the camper. They had a guest speaker – Rosy the Riveter – who told us stories of what women did on the homefront during WWII. She was quite entertaining.
I met Paul on the way to the next seminar – RV Retirement Options. The speaker was so monotone that we were both falling asleep. We left in the middle of the seminar and went back to the RV for a nap. At 6:45 PM, we went to the arena for tonight’s entertainment. The Malt Shoppe Memories sang 50s and 60s songs for an hour. They were very good.
2021 Mar 10 (Wed) – We went to an orientation for First Time Attendees. It was intended for anyone who is attending an FMCA International Convention for the first time. It’s pretty much like other conventions we have been to.
At 11:30 AM, we went to a seminar on How to Watch TV in My RV. The speaker covered all the different antenna and satellite options that are out there. Wifi remains the big issue for anyone who lives full-time on the road. Campgrounds won’t let you stream shows on their wifi signal and hot spots are usually limited to 15 GB which gets eaten up fast with just one show.
At 2:30 PM, we went to a seminar on RVing in Australia and Africa. We wanted to get some ideas for the Australia trip we are planning for January. At 5 PM, we met at the RV of Bo & Karen with other SMART members. Since there are so many of us in FMCA, it was suggested that we start a chapter in FMCA of SMART members. Conversely, we would form a chapter of FMCA members in SMART. Jack volunteered to be the Secretary/Treasurer and to put together the bylaws. He passed around a form we signed as new members of the chapter. We agreed to meet again tomorrow to finalize the plans. Everyone was to look for other SMART members who are here at the convention and invite them to the meeting.
At 5 PM, we went back to meet with our SMART friends. They held a vote on how to form the group and what the requirements should be for membership. We left at 6 PM to grab a quick meal. We drove the Activity Carts from 6:30 PM to whenever everyone was home. The Opening Ceremonies was at 7 PM and the entertainment (a comedian) was at 7:30 PM. The carts were held in place until 7:15 PM then sent out to see if there were folks who needed rides to the arena. We really should have gone out sooner. After most folks were at the show, the drivers (there were 8 carts) were seated in a special section so we could watch the show. We missed the opening ceremony. Just before the show ended, they sent us back out to get the carts ready and to take people back to their RVs.
2021 Mar 9 (Tue) – We both drove the Activity Carts this morning from 8 to 11 AM. It was very cold and we wore coats and hats and gloves. There were very few people who needed rides as coaches are still coming in. The convention doesn’t officially start until tomorrow. Our job is to just ride around and pick up anyone who wants a ride.
2021 Mar 8 (Mon) – We attended a Volunteer Meeting at 11 a.m. We volunteered to drive golf carts (called Activity Carts) during the convention. We have both been assigned 3 time slots of 3 hours each over the next few days. Paul starts off today with a 2 to 5 PM shift. I rode with him so I could get oriented to the fairgrounds.
While driving around, we came across fellow SMART members camped here. It turns out there are about a dozen of us here.
2021 Mar 7 (Sun) – We packed up and moved 30 miles down the road to the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter. We are attending the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association) International Convention in Perry, GA. We are among the first attendees to arrive. The parking crews are working hard to direct all the big rigs coming in to the convention. The FMCA is the largest RV club in the world. They normally have about 3,000 RVs at their annual convention. Because of COVID, they only have about 1,500 rigs here this year. The club used to be restricted to only motorhomes. They opened to other RVs (fifth wheels and trailers) a couple of years ago. There are some others here, but by and large, the majority of RVs here are those big motorhomes. I kind of feel like the redheaded stepchild.
2021 Mar 6 (Sat) – We did laundry today and prepared to move to the Georgia Fairgrounds tomorrow.
2021 Mar 5 (Fri) – We went out to dinner with the group to the Swanson Restaurant. It was a historic building turned restaurant. The food and company were very enjoyable.
2021 Mar 4 (Thu) – We went back to the Museum of Aviation and toured the remaining 3 buildings. The building dedicated to WWII was quite interesting. The display about the Vietnam War was also very well done.
After the museum, we went to the Longhorn Steakhouse for lunch. My steak was undercooked and I sent it back. When the waitress brought it back out, it seemed to be worse than went she took it. She took the steak off the bill and gave me another baked potato along with the undercooked steak. We’ll have it for breakfast tomorrow.
On the way back home, we stopped at Kroger to pick up a few groceries. I have a couple of recipes I want to try. After dinner, I baked Hidden Secret Muffins. As of bedtime, they appeared to be a big flop. Ugh. Hope the next experiment works better.
2021 Mar 3 (Wed) – It was a do-nothing day. We stayed in the campground all day.
2021 Mar 2 (Tue) – It rained most of day. The group has pastries and coffee together this morning then everyone went their own way. Some of us are staying in the campground until Sunday when we leave for the FMCA Convention. We drove to Robins AFB and toured the main building of the Museum of Aviation (there are 4 buildings filled with aircraft).
At noon, we left and drove to the PX where we got lunch in the food court. Paul got a quesadilla and I got chicken at Popeye Chicken. Neither of us was very impressed with our food. After lunch, rather than return to the museum to tour the remaining buildings, we returned to the campground.
2021 Mar 1 (Mon) – We wanted to go to a few museums but they were all closed today. So, we did the laundry and just hung around the campground all day.
Paul made the coffee for the rally and they provided breakfast this morning – waffles, pancakes, turkey sausage, orange juice, and coffee. Dinner was tossed salad, baked ziti, and garlic rolls. They brought it in and then let it sit for over half an hour. By the time the meal was served, the ziti was tepid and the rolls were cool. That was disappointing. Paul set the coffee pot up for tomorrow’s breakfast.
2021 Feb 28 (Sun) – Church service streamed on YouTube and showed that more people were back in the church building. We ran some errands today. We stopped at CVS to get a refill on Paul’s prescription. There was some confusion and the pharmacist didn’t appreciate Paul criticizing their computers but it finally worked out and he got his medication. We stopped at Tractor Supply to pick up Bonnie’s pet food and at Kroger to pick up a few groceries. Lunch was at The Perfect Pear in Perry. They were clearly understaffed. The two waitresses and a young man were hustling their butts off. It took a while to get our food but it was all good.
The rally provided dinner again today. It was spiral ham, scalloped potatoes, broccoli casserole and dinner rolls.
2021 Feb 27 (Sat) – We took off from Lake Park at 9:30 a.m. The drive was almost 3 hours on the interstate. We arrived at Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko around noon. We stayed in the truck while the clerk checked us in. One of the employees had us follow them in a golf cart to our RV site. It is a pull through at the end of the row right next to the dog run. We have full hookups and are also next to the community room.
We are here at a pre-rally for the FMCA Convention next week. This is being called a Tri-Chapter Rally with members of FMCA Veterans group, Full Timers, and Elks. There are only about 10 people here. Dinner was provided by the rally and consisted of hot dogs, baked beans, and tossed salad.
2021 Feb 26 (Fri) – The UPS truck showed up around 1 p.m. My medicine was on board. We stayed in the campground all day. Took the dog for a long walk. Began packing up for tomorrow’s move.
2021 Feb 25 (Thu) – We were confined to the campground today while I waited for UPS to deliver my medicine from Memorial Sloan Kettering. We took a one-mile hike around one of the lakes through old forest. It was both beautiful and spooky at the same time. I certainly wouldn’t want to be in there on Halloween at night. The pharmacy called later and said the plane had been diverted to Philadelphia and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.
We tried to do some laundry this morning but the washer was out of order. There are two machines in the building on site and both are defunct. I traded some of my books for others in the swap library. I didn’t find any new ones to take.
At lunchtime, we drove to Raisin’ Cain, listed under Nature & Parks with animals in Trip Advisor. It was a large farm with a building that served as a small café, a shop, and a register area. We got our food at the counter and brought it to the table to eat. I had fried chicken, again. Paul had a hamburger steak. The food was very good. There were no animals around and no nature preserve or park.
Following lunch, we stopped at Winn Dixie and WalMart for groceries and at a gas station to get fuel. Then we went to a Camping World store to get a couple of items. Paul examined the barbecues. He is unhappy with the one we have. It’s too hard to clean. He will research brands online before buying.
2021 Feb 24 (Wed) – We packed up and left Riddick at 9:30 a.m. It was about a 3 hour drive, all on the interstate, to Lake Park in Georgia. We are camped on Moody AFB Rec Area campground. There are two lakes and lots of trees in the campground. Everything is covered with the Spanish moss. It is quite lovely. Unfortunately, we can’t get any TV signal. Paul found that a wire had broken on the TV antenna and he spent a few hours trying to get it fixed. His legs will be sore tomorrow with all that up and down the ladder to the roof. After a while, he announced the antenna is kaput and we will have to buy a new one. Bummer.
We drove into town to get water. Somehow, we managed to pick up $100 worth of groceries in the process. We stopped at the Farm Fresh Restaurant for lunch. Their fried chicken was outrageous!

Election Night 92′ - Part 14
I really hope you enjoy this chapter... only one more to go. I am still working on my second billary fanfic it’s going to be like a James Bond movie and filled with a ton of stuff so I am like super excited to write it. Enjoy Part 14!
-----------------------------------------------------------
KNOCK... KNOCK... KNOCK...
Both Hillary and Bill still wrapped in each others arms jolt up right. "What the hell!" Bill yells out.
KNOCK... KNOCK... KNOCK...
Bill rolls out of bed, and grabs his pajama pants and throws them on. "This better be a matter of national security." Bill walks to the door and opens it. "YES!" It is a member of the White House server team, this is the team that brings the President breakfast and the morning papers. "Good morning sir, we have your breakfast ready for you and the First Lady." Bill still half asleep. "What the hell man it is 5am." "Yes sir, President Bush and First Lady Barbara would have their breakfast brought up at 5am sir." Hillary is in bed wrapped in the sheets and is giggling at Bill's reaction. "Well myself and the First Lady do not eat breakfast at 5am, we have only been asleep for 2 hours. Come back at 8." He then shuts the door. "Yes of course Mr. President." Hillary lets out a loud laugh and Bill looks over at her and starts to laugh as well. "Oh Bill, he was just doing his job." Hillary exclaims between laughs. "I know but my god honey who in their right mind has breakfast at 5am?" Bill trying to be serious. "Apparently George and Barbara did." Bill then climbs back into bed and Hillary runs her hands through his hair. "Well William Jefferson Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton don't." They both let out a loud laugh and then snuggle back up with each other and fall back asleep for a few more hours.
Hillary was the first to rise after the 5am debacle and she let Bill sleep a bit more as she made her way into the bathroom to get a shower and ready for the day ahead. They were going to explore their new home, have a few friends over but also they were going to have a meet and greet with many of the folks that came in for the Inaugural. She was very hungry and before she got out of the shower her growing son let her know he was hungry as well with a rapid kick. She put her hand on her belly and tried to soothe him, "I know little man, I know but let's wait for daddy to wake up and then we can eat." Bill had awoken and was standing in the doorway of the bathroom as she got out and heard her talking to their son. "Daddy is awake." Bill smiled at her as she turned her head to see him with a cup of coffee in his hand. She looked at in curiosity. "Mr. Knocker was here again, I guess he took the come back at 8 comment seriously." She let out a large laugh and he came over to her and helped her wrap herself in her bath robe. She tilted her head for a morning kiss and Bill complied as always. She grabbed a towel for her hair and Bill asked, "So are you two hungry? Because they brought plenty of food."
Hillary's eyes grew and she suspected so did their sons.
Sitting together in the bedroom eating breakfast now there is another knock on the door. Since they are both awake and dressed Bill's voice boomed. "Come in." Entering the room was Chief of Staff Mack and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs and Bill's eyes grew weary, Hillary turned to look at Bill with a concern look on her face and Bill tried to reassure her it would be okay. This was one draw back of being the President and her being merely the First Lady, she was not given code word clearance and there for Bill could not discuss these matters with her. He would have to rely on the experts and not getting advice from the one person who could read him better than anyone. "Morning fellas and what do I owe the pleasure of this visit." Bill was trying to play off the real reason he knew as to why they were there, not wanting to worry Hillary. The Chairman picked up on what the President was doing and he adjusted to keep the First Lady calm. "Sir, we have those details you requested." Bill keep a normal smile on his face, he knew Hillary was studying every inch of his face.
When she saw him emerge from the sitting room after speaking to the NSA she knew something was not right, then their delay in getting ready for the balls because he was still in the Situation Room. She understood that she was not allowed to know this important national security information but if this was something big it will be his first crisis and she was worried about him, she is the Worrier in Chief of the family after all.
Bill was already in his suit just missing his jacket, he knew his breakfast with his wife and growing son was over. "Sounds good, would you gentlemen mind waiting for me outside." Both Mack and the Chairman nodded their heads. "Of course sir." Mack and Chairman left the room and closed the door behind them. Bill took a deep breath and stood up and walked over to retrieve his suit jacket, he walked over to Hillary put his hand on her shoulder and kissed the top of her head. "I will be back shortly honey, we have to greet the folks waiting outside for us. You finish your breakfast and I'll be back up here before we head down to the receiving room." Hillary placed her hand on top of his that was resting on her shoulder. "Okay sweetheart. I will go get Chelsea out of bed." Bill leans down to kiss her on the lips then he heads for the door. "I love you Hill." "I love you too." He opens the door and exits the room and Hillary takes a worried breath.
The three men spoke on the way down to the Situation room and once they enter the room Vice President Gore was in the room already waiting for them. When the President entered the room stood at attention, this time Bill remembered what to do. "At ease gentlemen, okay fill me in what is the plan." Feeling confident now, last night before he left this room and every during the balls he wasn't. "Sir, the Generals and the Chairman think that we might be able to prevent his attacks if we send the Secretary of State, U.N. Ambassador as well as the NATO Supreme Allied Commander to meet with him and his Generals." Al explains to Bill. "Sir, we are intercepting some communications between Saddam and his Generals. Apparently he was very impressed with you and the Vice President calling him and just talking to him." Bill raised an eyebrow when General John Shalikashvili (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) explained. "Is that so?" "Yes sir, he was so blown away with how you spoke to him as a regular guy and not trying to posture him. He took it as a sign of mutual respect."
The Chairman was trying not to smile, he was impressed that the President might have been able to stop a horrific attack simply by calling the madman on the phone and treating him as if he were a friend. "Okay, so we need to get the confirmations passed on Warren and Madeleine right away. Let's see if we can send Saddam a message that we want to send them within the week to meet with him and see where we go from there. So far he hasn't pushed the envelop yet but he is a loose cannon. We have this chance to treat him as if he were a friend and if we can get him to really believe that then maybe we can get those U.N. weapons inspectors back in there to root out those weapons." Bill finished. "Mr. President, we can't approach it right away." Al interjected. "No, you are right Al but if we can build a relationship with him and find a weakness in him then maybe we can begin to exploit it so we can save the innocent civilians in Iraq." As Bill finished speaking he looked around the room seeing that his Intelligence teams was not yet convinced. "Look fellas, we have nothing else to work with here. We either try this or we start bombing what we suspect are his weapon stocks and then if we are wrong we run the risk of taking out innocent lives in the process and we loose any chance we get to get him to let those inspectors back in." Eventually they agreed and they had their orders, as Bill got up to leave he turned to Al. "Al, I need you to find a way to pull those Senate strings to get these confirmations pushed through. The quicker we can get Warren and Madeleine in the air on the way to Iraq the better. General, send that cable to Saddam and his Generals. We do this on our terms gentlemen, we make that very clear." "Yes Mr. President" Al answered. "Right away sir." The Chairman followed.
Bill finally got a chance to really sit in the Oval Office for the first time and absorb his new surroundings. He was about to have his first meeting with Senior Staff and start to get his agenda rolling. The first 100 days are critical for every new administration and the expectations were even higher for his and he knew they had to come out of the gate firing. "Health care needs to be second to the economy... I'm going to ask Hillary to head this task force because she has some background in it." Bill explained to the staff, and they all looked at each other a bit weary. "Sir." George spoke. "Are you sure you want to ask the First Lady to take on such a heavy task?" "George, she helped us reform health care in Arkansas. She has the knowledge to get this done and get it done right." Bill said very confidently. "But sir, she is 5 months pregnant and is it wise to put such a strain on her like this." Press Secretary Dee Dee Meyers chimed in. "Dee Dee she worked up until a week before she gave birth to Chelsea. I will monitor her carefully and if I feel it is too much for her then I will have her rest but she is the best person I could get to head this task force." Bill tried to ease their concerns, but they weren't sure however they didn't want to go against his plans. "Alright folks I have to go check and see if the First Lady is ready for our meet and greet with the people that came in for the Inauguration. Let's get these balls rolling as soon as possible." Bill stood as he did the Senior Staff followed and Bill left the Oval to head back to the residence.
"The First Lady at 5 months pregnant is going to head the task force on health care? How the heck do we spin this?" Dee Dee asked Chief of Staff Mack. "We don't spin it at all, we say exactly what the President just said. She was instrumental in reforming the health care system in Arkansas and the President believes she knows how to get this off the ground." With that the Senior Staff left the Oval and got to work. ------------------------------------------------------------
Hillary's June due date was fast approaching, the months leading up to this were difficult. Not the pregnancy but the stress of traveling across the country to study the current health care system and dissecting it and trying to understand what is the underlining problems with it while trying to cure it's many ailments. The traveling got harder and harder and eventual Bill and doctor's had to put an end to her traveling. Of course in pure Hillary fashion she was stubborn and tried to protest but Bill had to practically order her on bed rest. "Hillary, you have been on the go ever since we learned of the pregnancy and even before. You need to rest my darlin' or else you won't have the strength to have our son." "William! Are you ordering your wife to bed rest?" Hillary scoffed back. "Yes, if I have too and I will even get the doctor's to sign you a note." Hillary then folded her arms and her nostrils may have flared just a slight bit but she thought it was so adorable the way he wanted to care for an protect her and their child. "Honey, I cannot stay in bed all day long it will drive me insane. Plus my ankles will swell to the size of Arkansas watermelons and that will not be an attractive look for either of us."
She is now using her excellent lawyer skills to negotiate the terms of this "bed rest" agreement. Bill has seen this tact before and quickly comes up with a retort. "Well I will come up and get you for my lunch breaks and we will take a walk around the grounds, this way those cute ankles don't swell up my darlin'." Bill wanted to laugh but he knew he had to stifle it. Hillary was getting even more frustrated with her husband, she is not one to sit around and waste time.
Her lawyer negotiating skills were not working so next step... seduction. "Will...iam??" She was in her silk sheer nightgown and when she turned to face the window when Bill suggested he come up to get her for walks, she reached up to push her now enormous breasts up and closer together... he cannot resist those. She turned and saw his eyes draw right to the area she had intended. "Honey... do you really want me to be cooped up, up here in this bedroom all... alone... with nothing to keep me..... (She lowered her voice to really emphasize the sexy.) busy?" She didn't care that her belly was massive she knew Bill loved the way she looked pregnant and she began to walk toward him slowly, his eyes never left her chest. She got closer and closer and Bill finally caught on to what she was doing and he looked up into her eyes and smiled that boyish grin. "My darlin' I just want you to rest. I am not trying to punish you... not the mother of my children. But the doctors say you need to rest and I just want to protect you." As soon as he said the word ‘punish’, her mind began to race and Bill didn't know it yet but he certain was in trouble now... but in a good way. "I thought you liked to punish me Mr. President."
Bill's eyes grew wide, and next thing he knew Hillary had turned her back to him hiked up her silk night gown to barely the bottom of her supple ass and began to rub it on Bill's pelvis. He could not help what was happening to his lower extremities and she knew it, the power she had over him and the power he had over her was cosmic at times. He ran his hands on her upper arms while slight moans came from Hillary and he was losing all self control.
She tilted her head to the right side and allowed Bill's lips access to her neck, it's another thing she knew he couldn't resist. He bent his head down and accepted the access she had given him, while he moved his hands to cup her engorged breasts and when he took his pointer fingers to her nipples she hissed. They are more sensitive and she knows just how close she is to having this baby. Bill kisses up to her ear. "Sorry baby, I forgot how sensitive they are." All she did was moan. He took that as an apology accepted. Her arousal was very intense now, and what started out as a seduction to get Bill to let her work a little bit longer now turned into an ache and a need for Bill. The contact and connection that they both crave from one another. She reached her hand behind her and started to unbuckle his belt, and once she had finally released it she unhooked the button of his suit pants and slide his zipper down.
His pants gently slid down to his ankles and now her movements on his pelvis from her voluptuous ass were freed of a layer. He kissed the back of her neck and moved his hands down her sides hiked the nightgown up a little more and tucked a finger in on each side of her silk panties to slowly slide them down. She had now moved her right hand up above and behind her holding the back of Bill's head.
Her whisper turned into a pleading whimper, "I need... you... inside... me." Bill didn't need to be asked twice, without missing a beat he moved her to cushioned bench that was at the foot of their bed. His hardness was strained behind his boxer briefs but he had to first get her in one of only 2 positions they could not without her feeling discomfort. She bent over on the bench and placed her hands on the foot board of the bed and Bill pulled his briefs down.
"I love you, Hillary." Very gently he pushed himself into her warmth. It may seem like a harsh position but with Bill he is always so tender and gentle with her and when the ocean waves over took them both he held her for a few moments while her breathing regulated. He sat down on the bench and turned her and sat her in his lap and softly caressed her apple cheeks. "Are you okay my darlin'?" She looked up into his eyes. "I feel like I'm floating on a cloud."
He smiled and kissed her beautiful perky lips. "You are right Bill. I should slow down and rest more before he arrives." She put her hand on her stomach.
"We've been dreaming of this baby for so long and I don't want to do anything to compromise his health and well being." Bill just smiled and looked into her eyes. "You are so beautiful my love. He'll be here before you know it."

The Sin-Eater - Arrow Music Notes 5x14
Oliver Queen, Quentin Lance, and Thea Queen deal with choices that they make and how it affects others in this episode. Oliver especially is trying to put out many fires in his life between the arrest for Billy Malone’s death, the debacle with Susan Williams, and possible impeachment. The idea of legacy also comes up again as Dinah heads toward becoming the new Black Canary.
Dinah - becoming Black Canary
Dinah is sworn in as part of the SCPD in this episode. Due to the nature of administering justice on both sides, the fact that she needs a code name is brought up by Quentin to Oliver. Oliver shares that he was considering Black Canary and asks Quentin if that is alright with him to a version of the Canary theme on flute, as a tribute and a memory.
Later on, Felicity gives Dinah the mask of Black Canary to protect Dinah’s identity as a new cop. This time, the exact Canary theme plays on flute (first heard in 2x03 with Sara, then later on for Laurel). Dinah is not yet comfortable in taking Laurel’s place but takes the mask. When she arrives in the fight against the 3 villains, her own version of the BC theme is heard in the flute and violins (first heard in 5x10).
Quentin gets to talk to Dinah about passing on the name. Dinah expresses how she is not ready to take Laurel’s place as the flute begins to play a beautiful melody as Lance explains that she would be carrying on in Laurel’s place, not replacing her.
Returning villains
The fun part of having returning villains is that their music also makes a return. In this case, three women return from Arrow’s past: China White, Cupid (Carrie Cutter) and Liza Warner. The three of them get an electronic motif as they take over the prison bus, when they encounter the thugs for information and kidnap one, and when they find the money.
China White’s theme (electronic and oriental sounding - Wake-up 1x08, Try Roy Try 2x02) appears as Lance and Oliver look for the three ladies, discovering many dead Triad members and a security camera.
Carrie Cutter’s theme (bells - first in 3x05) appears as the women are looking for the deposit and she complains how arrows are expensive before the Green Arrow and Lance show up.
Liza Warner only appeared in one episode (4x04) so her theme is less established. However, several of the fight scenes resembled “This City is Dying” from her episode.
The music for the fight scenes were fantastic especially the last one (Dinah vs. China White) with the Arrow team, bad guys and cops.
Oliver Queen
Oliver fought battles on many fronts in this episode. Some he won and some he lost. In the middle of this, Lance finds Oliver in the mayoral office discouraged and weighed down by Billy’s murder and the subsequent arrest by the SCPD for the Green Arrow. In previous years, Lance would have encouraged Oliver to let the police handle it (or arrested him). But in a reversal, now he is telling Oliver to go and fight, not letting Prometheus win. During this scene, music with piano, water-glasses, strings and horn begin playing (4x04 - Oliver’s first United campaign speech). It is a quieter more intimate version, lacking the percussion and big fanfare but it does emphasize how working together, justice will be done. Quentin is reminding Oliver of the hero needs to be again but this week as the Green Arrow.
At the end, Adrian Chase bursts into the room letting know Oliver a problem was coming. They turned on the TV to discover that Oliver’s mayoral office was rumored to have covered up Billy’s murderer which brings scandal and possibly impeachment. During this scene, a string pattern (the end of “The Essence of Heroism” - 2x22) repeats several times as Oliver witnesses this disaster unfold.
Extra Notes
- Russian Bratva music is back with Flashbacks
- I was hoping to cover the Susan/Oliver/Thea parts but I ran out of time this week. I did like how the end of Oliver and Thea’s conversation had hints in the first 2 piano chords of “Purest Heart” near the end as Oliver shared his concern about Thea turning into Moira. Oliver always saw Thea through lenses of his baby sister with a pure heart.
- Arrow Season 5 is about Legacy. This past week, I was thinking a lot about legacy in my own family as my grandfather passed away. I was very blessed to have a legacy of church, family, and a love of the arts. My grandparents took us to classical music concerts (Yo-Yo Ma, Emmanuel Ax), art museums, gardens, and lent us all their Jane Austen VHS tapes. I may not have appreciative all of it at the time, but I do now. Thanks to many of you who have been so kind in praying for me and my family. It means a lot to me.

Adding additional drivers to my car insurance..?
Will adding my mom or dad (perfect driving record) affect them or their insurance at all? Or, if I got into an accident, would it go on their record? Car wreck....Why is his insurance calling me? Can someone please clear this up?
So Friday morning, my fiance' and I were headed to New Jersey to visit his family for Christmas. On the way there, I was driving his truck so he could sleep a little before we switched places. Early morning when we were in Virginia, I pulled off the highway to go to a McDonalds to get some coffee. When I pulled off, it was a weird exit and I had no clue where I was going. I stopped at a red light, which had another light very close behind it which turned green, my idiot self was looking at that light for some reason while our light was still red...I hit the gas and then slammed on my breaks realizing what I was doing but it was too late and I hit a guy on the side of the door. It wasn't a big wreck. The guy didn't fly across the intersection. He didn't even move, his door was just dented and it will definitely need to be replaced but the man said he was not hurt at all. The truck we were driving in barely had damage, just a little dent in the hood that was very small to the eye and a bent license plate. We were in much better shape; but again, he was not in pain and his door was the only thing that seemed to be damaged. ANYWAYS, I received a traffic ticket for failing to obey a traffic light which I totally accept because this was extremely stupid of me and I am planning on mailing the fine to the court. So since I was driving my fiance's car, which is under his parents insurance, I assume my insurance is not affected. The trooper just told us that the other guy's insurance will contact my fiance's insurance. So I am thinking all I have to do is just pay this awful fine. Well my fiance' called me this morning and said that Statefarm (the other guy's insurance) called him asking for my number. Why would the other guy's insurance need to contact me if my fiance's parent's insurance are the ones who insure the truck? I just want to know what's to come when they call me. I don't know much of anything about insurance. I just want to know why the other guy's insurance would contact me when, yes, I caused the accident but my fiance's father is the insurance holder of the car that was wrecked. Thanks!""

About 2 weeks ago I slipped off an icy road, drove my van into the woods on state land. There was no property damage, this is a very rural area (as in no homes within 5 miles at least). It did take out my rear corner window, crushed my headlights and damaged my hood. I drove right out of the woods afterwards. I was going to do the repairs myself, but found out the window repair would be over $500 and for that price I might as well file a claim and get the rest fixed. My questions are: Is it too late to file a claim? Are there any legal ramifications for not reporting this accident?""
What is the best Car Insurance company ?
I am a new driver with a sports car 1999 Porsche Boxter and need insurance. PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!
Why are my car insurance quotes so high (first car UK)?
OK, I passed my test last week so I've started looking at what cars to buy, and which ones have the cheapest insurance. I've tested lots of different comparison sites to get insurance quotes and most of them are around 4,000! To me that's strangely high for cars that are less than 1,000... The cars that I've had quotes for are Vauxhall Corsa's and Ford Fiestas, both 1.2L. A friend of mine insured a Golf 1.6 for 900 which was his first car, so I really don't get why my quotes are so different, especially as I'm looking at much cheaper cars. I've also tried using the sites that offer a telematics box which is meant to be considerably cheaper but it's still around the 4,000 mark for some reason. Is there any way I can get it cheaper without going onto my parents insurance?""

What is the most affordable and complete health insurance?
My husband moved to North Carolina 8 months ago from India and is a Pharmacist. However, until he passes his equivalency exams in the states, he is working as a Pharmacy Technician. I am not working at the moment (not by choice but by the terrible job situation in the country). We are shopping around for affordable health insurance. Blue Cross is too expensive and so are many others. We are on a very limited income, however, health is of utmost importance too. So even if it is really bank breaking, we are looking into getting health insurance. What is the best one in terms of affordability and coverage? Car insurance rates go up after accident?
Ok, so this is really stupid in my mind. But I got rear ended the other day, and it was obviously the lady's fault since I was waiting at the stop light and she hit me. Anyways, the damage was minor. There was a hole from her screw/bolt that held her front license plate and part of my rear light got cracked. Anyways, she offered to pay us 350 after we got 2 estimates saying it would cost around 700 to paint by bumper and replace the light. she and I were fine with that since my bumper already had noticeable scratches on the side and her damage wasn't that major. But my dad (I'm 19) wanted her to pay 400 or tell her to report it to her insurance. So I thought this was ridiculous since he would have pocketed the 400 instead of fix it (like I said, it was a small hole in the bumper...).So now, I am worried that my insurance will go up. I am a college student, a guy, and a teenager which I feel like would raise my rates, a lot, but he reassures me that our rates won't go up since the lady's insurance will pay for it and that we arent claiming our insurance. So what happens now in the insurance process? All I know is that she has to call her insurance and they send an adjuster to assess the cost of the damages made to our car. Do we have to report it anytime to our insurance company? If not, is there a chance that our insurance company will find out and raise our rates?""

Accident in a WalMart parking lot and the other party's insurance denied my claim... any advice?
Hi everyone, I would appreciate your ideas regarding the following situation: My son had a car accident last week in a nearby WalMart parking lot (Dallas, Paulding County, GA). He was driving down a parking lane and hit a car which came out of nowhere cutting across the aisle. Both vehicles had extensive damage (front of the vehicle on our car, and driver side on the other car). There was a gentleman who saw everything and called 911. The sheriff's deputy arrived at the scene promptly. He explained there would be an accident report, but since this happened in a private parking lot, he was not in a position to state who was at fault. I got the report the other day and it states the facts about the accident and gives the contact information for the witness. I have spoken with the other driver's insurance company three times and I just found out that their claims rep has determined that my son was at fault, so they have denied my claim. The claim with them was actually originally filed by the other driver. I politely asked to speak with a supervisor and was advised that I should expect to receive a call from a supervisor soon. I did not get a chance to talk to my insurance rep after I found out the other insurance denied the claim, but I am not sure if there is anything my insurance can do for us, especially given the fact that we only have liablity coverage on this vehicle (no collision coverage either). I think it is really outrageous how they could claim my son was at fault, if all evidence points to the fact that their insured was driving across the parking lanes and obviously did not see our car. I cannot find anything online (like traffic regulations) that explicitly says that the driver cutting across the parking lanes is at fault if there is a collision, but I think it is common sense that this should be the responsible party! If anyone has had a similar experience, or has any suggestions, your help will be very much appreciated!""
Low Cost Health Insurance (Indiana)?

How do you fight with the other party's insurance company?
Hi, my car insurance covers for liability only and now I have an accident with a big truck. The big truck hit my car from the side. We were driving from 2 lanes next to each other and at one point the two lanes combine into one. While I was alittle pass over the truck, it hit me from the side. Their side has no damage since it is a big truck and our side has damaged from the driver side. The police report didn't explain clearly about whose fault it is except it mentions what the two drivers said. I think it is not my fault and the other driver denied it is his fault either. My insurance company didn't help much because we only have liability. Now, the other party insurance company called me and said they can't pay for the damanges since it is both parties fault. Therefore, pay for damanges on our own. Like I said, the other party didn't have any damages. Car insurance for new driver that will not drive far..?
HI, I am turning 17 in november, and already looking at cars. The cars i am looking at are getting insurance at over 5000 (im male) a year fully comp! The car is only like 2500..... The thing is i will barely use my car as i live really close to school, so will walk all weekdays - especially as i am banned from parking in school as i live too close. I will occasionally use it on weekends - but if i go out in the evening im not going to take my car - drink driving.. So the only time i will use my car is quite alot in the holidays and very occasionally on some weekends, and therefore think 5k for a few car trips is ridiculous.. So is there any form of insurance where you pay for how far you drive? BTW the cars i was loooking at are 1L's, peugeots and vauxhalls mainly. These ok? Im looking at nothing over 60,000 miles and 7 years old max - i think i will do 3000 max a year. IM looking to sped about 2500 on a car, but need cheaper insurance than that! Hope you can help Many Thanks""
What is the difference of term and whole life insurance?
I know this has been asked before, but what I want to know was never answered. 1. If you buy term and pay for 20 years and live longer, does your beneficiaries receive all the money? If they do, how does the company make money on term? 2. I have had whole for over 30 years and what I am paying is more than term ins. a month, but when I die, my beneficiaries will recieve much more than I could ever save. ( I pay over $150. a month for over $200,000. I know I will pay in about $50,000. My mutual funds aren't increasing so I think whole will do better for my kids. Did I do the right thing? 3. If I switch over to term will I lose what I signed up for? Thanks""
Can I get insurance that isn't based in my state?
I currently live in South Carolina and I'm in need of a particular surgical procedure, and my current insurance provider rules the surgery as cosmetic when in fact, an orthodontist, dentist, and an oral surgeon all suggested that surgery is a good option for me. They've all told me the same thing, however, that the surgery is difficult to get approved. So I did a bit of research and only one insurance company in the entire United States covers the procedure (That I could find). But, this insurance (Kaiser Permanente) isn't offered in my state. It is however offered in Georgia, which is relatively close. So my question is, could I switch to Kaiser Permanente if I don't live in Georgia, California, or one of their other locations? It's orthognatic surgery, in case it's relevant.""

Why is my insurance so high?
So I am 21 years old working part time as a supervisor with a certain big brown shipping company. I am making decent money, and was, at the time, driving a really high mileage 1998 explorer that got terrible MPG and was nickle and dimeing me to death, so I decided to go look for a new car. The car I found, was a 2011 Suzuki Kizashi S. It had really high safety ratings, the car itself was in very good condition (the previous owner was a little old lady who I actually got to meet because her nephew was the car salesman I bought it from, who even brought me all of the paperwork on the maintenance she had - impeccable maintenance record I might add), and the average highway mpg, is double that of my explorer. However, I made a mistake of not confirming what my insurance rate would change to when I called State Farm over the phone to have my coverage changed to the new vehicle, and now here I am paying triple what I did for the explorer. I don't get it, how does a little 4 door sedan w/ awesome safety ratings and all that jazz cost me $224 a month to insure, but a 4WD fully loaded explorer, in Colorado, that I had since I was 17, was only like $63 a month. I mean, I understand that a vehicle that isn't paid off yet is going to have higher insurance thanks to the lender requiring full coverage, but I don't know ANYONE around my age paying this much except for a guy I work with who drives an Acura and got a massive ticket for going a buck 20 in a 45 speed zone and now pays like 350 a month. Is there something particular about this car that I wasn't aware of? It's a great car, but the huge insurance cost is really hurting what I'd planned to be able to afford per month on top of my other bills.""

Why does ACA make insurance mandatory?
Does anyone know why the Affordable Health Care Act requires you to have insurance? I could understand an optional government insurance plan if you don't get it through work, but I don't understand why there will be a penalty if you are uninsured. Avoiding emotional responses (for instance: b/c Obama sux), does anyone know the reasoning behind that? An example of the answer I'm looking for would be if you asked me why Americans are required to have car insurance, why aren't we just allowed to pay for accidents out of pocked if we choose to? I would answer by saying that some people would not get insurance because they thought they could avoid an accident, but then get into one and nobody would pay for the other person's car/injuries. Putting the person in jail wouldn't help the victim, so it's better to make everyone have car insurance.""

Twilight Zone
I had recently moved 5 hours across the state to a town I knew virtually nothing about, and had taken a very low paying job at a transfer service until I could learn the area and sniff out a good 911 job. Unfortunately for me, this meant that I became that guy who was just passing through what at the time was a fairly large but highly disorganized company, and I was totally surrounded by EMT-Basic lifers in the seedy underworld of transfer.
That time period of my life I met an army of EMT’s that were each complete oddball characters completely deserving of their own Stephen King novel. There was one run down station in town that would no lie house up to 20 Basics during the day while they did the dialysis game. They all hated paramedics or were desperately trying to become one; a very love and hate relationship. Because medics were rare in that inexperienced environment, they typically were/are reserved for ER calls and long distance transports where the company can actually make more than a few hundred bucks off the insurance billing. The station was just so overrun with people it was insane. If you got off the couch to go to the bathroom, someone would steal your seat. I was even sleeping one night in a closet (they had made a closet a bunk room with twin beds so close to each other you couldn’t walk between them) and someone stole my bed when I made a bathroom pit stop at 2 a.m. Yes, someone took the sheets off my bed and fell asleep in the time it took me to pee. And then, of course, I nearly murdered them. After arguing my bed back and cursing at each other in the dark, while others told us to shut up since we were disrupting everyone’s sleep, I laid back down for about ten minutes before I got dispatched on a call, and the bed thieve was ecstatic because he got to reclaim his stolen property.
Most of the employees left within six months and I was no different. But what was baffling were the people that had been there for years. By some cruel twist of fate, I ended up working a few shifts with a certain lifer that may go down in history as the worst Basic partner I’ve ever had; possibly the worst Basic licensed in the state of Texas. (There are so many candidates for that award though, it’s all subjective at this point I guess). She was in her mid 20′s and weighed close to 350 lbs. We were doing our truck check off in the morning and it was very evident, no matter what truck we were on, that not a single crew member apparently knew what exactly a truck check off meant, since half of the truck supplies and state minimums were clearly nowhere to be found. I was calling off supply counts to my partner and she was doing the universal partner ritual of staring down at her phone while completely ignoring me. I just started making up numbers and she never looked at me, but what she would do is stick her hand in a stack of non-rebreather masks and crinkle the plastic wrapper to make it sound like she was being productive. When she finally saw that I was staring at her the whole time, there was no acknowledgement of poor work ethic, or ownership, no, she got out of the back and said she was gonna go take a shit. She and apparently every male partner I’ve ever had since, had some form of bowel problem.
So, as noted, my morning that day was starting off nicely, when we got dispatched to a rural location over an hour away to take a middle aged man to a nursing home for hospice care. We got alerted of calls through a cell phone, which of course had poor signal inside the building. Naturally, you would get in trouble if you didn’t go en route within a certain time frame, but the problem was dispatch could only hear us when we were backing out of the parking lot. I waited like usual for my partner to show up but she didn’t, so when I found her, post dump, she was sleeping in an upright position on the couch in the crowded day room. We ended up going en route a wee bit late, and had a long uneventful conversation free drive to this residence that we found via GPS. It was a completely wooden cabin with several stairs going up to the front porch. We make scene and at this time I have virtually no other information other than we are picking up a male patient. A flustered woman opens the door and tells us where he is going and hands me a stack of what initially appears to be non-related paperwork I’m supposed to give to the nursing home staff.
In the living room sitting in a small kitchen chair is a 400 pound man who is snoring...and I can not wake him up. I ask the wife what’s going on with him and she says he has every medical condition wrong with him, but he’s going to be on hospice to detox from pain pills. She then resumes whatever activity she was doing prior to our arrival, because I did not see her again until we were leaving. I asked my partner to get a baseline set of VS while I checked his blood sugar. He was definitely not hypoglycemic as his sugar was on par with his weight. While I’m trying to micromanage whatever the hell is going on here, I notice that my partner has not taken a BP, pulse ox, or put the pt. on the monitor. She looks me in the eye and says something to the effect of why are we taking VS? We’re just supposed to take him to the nursing home. She was so inconvenienced at having to take a BP, that I just took the cuff from her and did everything myself, including a 12 lead EKG. Because we didn’t have jump bags at this fine establishment, I went out to the truck and got some Narcan IN and a stair chair. I administered the Narcan with absolutely no change in status. And naturally, to make my job a bit more stressful, the pt.’s pulse ox readings are low so I put him on high flow O2.
Now getting him over to the stair chair was going to be a battle because my partner would not even attempt to lift and this guy was dead weight. What we did was I stood him up in front of me and my partner moved the chair and dropped the stair chair behind him. I would like to say at this point of my life I was regularly deadlifting 405, and that was the only way that situation could have happened. Wouldn’t happen now, that’s for sure. We stair chaired the man out to the ambulance and then I nearly threw my back out trying to lift him into the back of the unit. The pt. is now responding to painful stimuli, which I happened to be in great supply of, and I started a line and gave him more Narcan IV. The high flow oxygen had raised his sats but again, he was still altered. So, I try and call my supervisor to see if I should take him to the nearest ER or to the original facility. The Einstein told me the company would not get paid for the transport if I did not transport to the originally planned location. It was one of those moments were in hindsight, I should have said no and taken him to an ER, but what we did per our enlightened supervisor, was go emergency traffic to the nursing home. (Yes, that actually happened).
When we get there, like most nursing homes EMS has to deal with, there’s apparently no one working...at all...in the entire building. We find someone hiding in the cafeteria and tell them of the situation. She appears to be unconcerned and goes about her business for roughly 20 minutes before telling me to take him into a room that’s at the very end of the hall and isolated. There are no beds in said room, but there is a wheelchair. We do the same song and dance getting the pt. off the stretcher and into the wheelchair. As I’m waiting for the nurse or aide or anyone to come sign for transfer of care, the pt.’s respiratory rate starts slowing down. With a sternal rub, he speeds it up noticeably, but after a bit would start slowing it down. I looked at my partner and was like you see this? This is the code face...he’s gonna freaking code before I get my freaking signature.
I ended up getting the same lady to sign for us but I had to again use my tracking skills to locate her because she was on the other side of the building talking. We left the nursing home in silence, and my partner and I did not talk to each other for about half of the way back to the station. I casually tried to pick her brain, as to why she would think we don’t need VS on a patient that appears to be unconscious. What followed was the wrath of a hangry woman. She yelled at me saying that I was an overachiever that was making everyone look bad. Apparently, pointing out the patient’s code face had really unnerved her, because she asked me why would I say that? I asked her how many cardiac arrest calls she has worked. She then started crying and said she hopes to never work one, and that she would quit the day she got one. (Really??)
The rest of my time at that transfer service was spent laying low and spending my time constructively trying to find better employment. I still see one or two of my co-workers from that place out and about at some of the ER’s. They are the chosen few that were motivated to get out of there and leave that wasteland behind. The last I’d heard of my partner from that day was she is still working there doing the dialysis grind, but she’d married an illegal immigrant and had gastric bypass. Guess she’s managed to avoid that cardiac arrest call...so far.

What’s white, racist, and totally insane? No, it’s not Mel Gibson. We’re talking about the Ku Klux Klan, America’s most infamous hate group. Founded in 1870, the KKK has terrorized American citizens through propaganda, arson, and murder. Fortunately, the Klan’s popularity has faded over time, and today they’re viewed as a sad reminder of America’s racist history. But what’s even more interesting is the history of the Klan itself because, when you come right down to it, the KKK is completely crazy.
#1 The Black Cop In The Klan In 1979, undercover police officer Ron Stallworth spotted an interesting ad in his local newspaper. The KKK was moving into his town of Colorado Springs and was looking for new recruits. Stallworth decided to call them up and see if he could infiltrate the group. Of course, there was one little issue that made things a bit difficult — Stallworth was black. Not a guy to let details get in the way, Stallworth phoned up the Klan and told them he was a white man tired of being harassed by minorities. He even mentioned how angry he was that his sister had dated an African-American (not the term he used). His act worked. The Klan was only too happy to welcome Stallworth into the fold… after an initial meeting. Thinking on his feet, Stallworth sent a white narcotics officer in his place. He gave his buddy several forms of non-photo I.D. to prove he was actually Stallworth, and a few hours later the guy came back with an application form. Over the next year, Stallworth’s partner attended meetings while the undercover agent chatted with Klansman over the phone. He even called up and talked to Grand Wizard David Duke on several occasions. During one conversation, Duke said he could identify black people by the way they talked, something that must’ve made Stallworth chuckle. Eventually, Stallworth became such a respected member of the KKK that he was offered a leadership position in the local branch. Since that obviously couldn’t work out, the operation was cancelled, and Klansman Stallworth disappeared. However, during his investigation, Stallworth learned quite a bit about the Klan’s activities and prevented any cross burnings from occurring in Colorado Springs. Stallworth was so proud of his work that he framed his KKK membership card and hung it in his office until his well-deserved retirement.
#2 The KKK Hates The Westboro Baptists Nobody likes the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC), not even the KKK. While you’d think these two hate groups would get along—especially with their similar views on homosexuals, Jews and Christianity—they actually have quite a few differences, especially in regards to America’s military. On Memorial Day 2011, three members of the WBC showed up at Arlington Cemetery with their usual assortment of “You’re Going to Hell” and “Thank God for Dead Soldiers” signs. However, just a few feet away were ten members of the Knights of the Southern Cross, a Virginia branch of everybody’s favorite racist organization. The KKK had shown up specifically to counter-protest the Westboro bunch, and they spent the day handing out American flags. While everything seemed relatively peaceful (for a WBC/KKK protest that is), things might’ve gotten nasty if police officers weren’t on the scene. When reporters asked the Klansmen if they were armed, they refused to answer. As to the WBC, they weren’t particularly upset by the Klan’s arrival. Abigail Phelps, daughter of the late Fred, declared the KKK had “no moral authority,” claiming the Bible doesn’t support their racist views. Imperial Wizard Dennis LaBonte shot back, saying it was the soldiers who fought for Westboro’s right to protest. So who won this ultimate smackdown of evil? Well, at the end of the day both groups are still terrible, so we’ll say they both lost.
#3 The Literary Origins of Cross Burning Other than their ghostly hoods, the image most often associated with the KKK is that of a fiery cross. The Klan claims this eerie act symbolizes their Christian beliefs, and in a bizarre PR move, they’ve re-dubbed this ritual a “cross lighting.” Of course, we all know the reason behind their little bonfires. Like Justice Clarence Thomas once said, cross burnings represent the Klan’s “reign of terror” against African-Americans across the U.S. But how did this crazy custom get started? Well, literary fans, we’re sorry to say that Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott unintentionally played a pivotal role in terrifying thousands of black people throughout the 20th century. The Ivanhoe author was extremely popular in the American South, probably because the southern states were populated with people of Scotch-Irish origin. They were especially fond of his 1810 poem The Lady of the Lake, which referenced an ancient Scottish custom of burning a cross to call a meeting of all the clans (although the Scottish cross was in the shape of an “X,” not the Roman one we associate with Jesus). Scott’s vivid imagery captured the imagination of novelist Thomas Dixon. Not only was he a fan of Scottish poetry, Dixon was also a supporter of the KKK. Inspired by Scott’s cross burning scene, he added it to his pro-Klan novel, The Clansman, even though the first KKK (1886 to early 1870s) had never even thought about setting a crucifix on fire. When the 1905 novel was turned into the infamous movie The Birth of a Nation, director D.W. Griffith kept the cross burning scene. The scene inspired William J. Simmons, founder of the second Klan, to kick off the 1915 revival with the first cross burning service in KKK history. Thanks, Sir Walter Scott!
#4 Superman Fought the Klan The Man of Steel has fought some pretty dangerous villains in his day, from Doomsday to Brainiac to Lex Luthor. However, in the 1940s, Superman took on an even more dangerous foe, the dreaded KKK. On June 10, 1946, kids across America tuned in their radios to hear The Adventures of Superman and were enthralled by a new serial called “Clan of the Fiery Cross.” Instead of fighting boring old Neo-Nazis or gangsters, this time Superman was battling racism. “Clan of the Fiery Cross” was the brainchild of Stetson Kennedy, a Georgia man who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan to learn their secrets. He attended meetings, observed rituals, memorized passwords and tried to pass his information to law enforcement officials. However, the cops weren’t interested. Either they were too afraid to take a stand against the Klan, or they were actually members. Frustrated, Kennedy approached the producers of The Adventures of Superman radio show and asked if they were interested in exposing the Klan. They jumped at the chance, and soon the show was mocking the hooded baddies and revealing their codes and customs. Shocked and outraged, the local clan Kennedy had joined started coming up with new passwords and observances. And just as quickly, “Klansman” Kennedy passed along all their new practices to the Superman producers. In fact, it’s said the local branch he’d infiltrated was so humiliated that they actually closed down their chapter. After the success of the Superman show, Kennedy would continue fighting intolerance, publishing books and helping the government crack down on the Klan. He might not have had X-ray vision or the ability to fly, but Stetson Kennedy was a real-life superhero.
#5 The KKK Summer Getaway Looking for a little rest, relaxation and racial purity? Well, if you had lived in Rockport, Texas ninety years ago, you could have visited the Kool Koast Kamp! Billed as an outing “for a red-blooded American” (Klan language for a white person), the seaside resort offered all sorts of fun activities like daylight yachting, moonlight excursions and watermelon parties. Attendees were encouraged to take a dip in the cool, blue ocean, but were asked to refrain from “extreme dress.” Feel like fishing? The Klan was more than happy to provide rods, reels, boats and bait. And who knows? You might even learn a thing or two. The Kamp brochure promised that guests would learn the differences between hammerheads, sea urchins and porpoises. Most importantly, the camp was perfectly safe, especially for white women. The brochure boldly states that “wonderful mothers” need not fear for their safety. “The Fiery Cross guards you at night and an officer of the law, with the same Christian sentiment, guards carefully all portals.” “Beautiful daughters” were also assured the Kamp was just as safe as a mom’s embrace. As bizarre as this all sounds, the Kool Koast Kamp wasn’t really that weird in 1924. Back in the day, the Klan was viewed as a social institution, an organization that helped build and strengthen the community. The group gave money to down-on-their-luck members and promoted small businesses owned by hood-wearing entrepreneurs. Similarly, the resort was meant for poorer Klan clans who couldn’t afford a fancy vacation. For $10, a family could rent an Army tent (complete with cots) and enjoy ten days of summertime fun. However, the Kamp had a second, much more insidious goal. Attendees were asked to bring along non-members in hopes of gaining new recruits. The idea was to dispel negative media portrayals and show the world that Klansmen were just normal, fun loving, family oriented Americans… who lynched black people. They didn’t mention that last part in the brochure.
#6 The KKK Show For Kids When the first episode of The Andrew Show aired in 2009, white audiences were introduced to a blonde-haired boy of about ten. His name was Andrew Pendergraft, and he liked talking about movies, TV shows and the dangers of race mixing. Of course, this preteen hater was nothing more than an indoctrinated pawn reading from cue cards the whole time. Little Andrew is the grandson of Thom Robb, national director of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, the most powerful KKK group today. Robb has spent his life remarketing the Klan as a friendlier, less hateful organization. Part of his ploy involved creating a series of white pride web shows, all hosted by members of his family who sit in front of ugly green screens. For the adults, there’s This Is the Klan which features Robb and his daughter/Andrew’s mom, Amanda Pendergraft, discussing the news. For the teens, there’s Youth Focus, hosted by Shelby Pendergraft who’s also a member of the racist country group “The Heritage Connection.” And most disturbingly, there’s “The Andrew Show,” the Sesame Street for baby bigots. Each of the eighteen episodes starts off with Andrew smiling for the camera and welcoming viewers with, “This show is for all the white kids out there!” He then proceeds to talk about whatever movies or shows he’s watched lately and then ties them into KKK ideology. In one episode, he complains about how the character of Tiana from The Princess and the Frog falls in love with a white character. He critiqued The Spy Next Door for showing Jackie Chan dating a white woman. He’s also full of troubling anecdotes to help drive his point home. For example, Andrew once compared baking a cake to interracial relationships. “My mom taught us about the frosting and when you put the different colors in it—the white frosting? It can never be white again.” While The Andrew Show promotes hatred, it’s important to remember the real victim here — Andrew himself. After all, he’s just a brainwashed kid.
#7 The KKK Highway Scandal Americans love the First Amendment. It guarantees people the right to say and believe whatever they want. But those rights apply to everyone, no matter how awful their beliefs. That’s something the state of Missouri found out the hard way. In 1994, the state’s Department of Transportation received an application from the local Klan. The group wanted to adopt a section of Interstate 55, which mean not only would they be cleaning the highway, they’d get their very own sign on the side of the road. Obviously, Missouri wasn’t too keen on condoning Klan activities and refused the application. Furious, the Klan took the Department of Transportation to court… and won. The judge decided the KKK had every right to adopt a stretch of highway, a ruling the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed in March 2000. While they were legally defeated, Missouri had one last surprise for the Klan. Shortly after the ruling, the state congress renamed the section adopted by the Klan “Rosa Parks Highway” after the famous civil rights activist. However, in 2012, the KKK lost interest in the highway and stopped picking up trash, which allowed the government to kick them out of the program. History has a tendency to repeat itself though, and that same year, the International Keystone Knights of the KKK asked to adopt a part of Georgia State Route 515. Despite their claims that they just wanted to keep the road “beautiful,” the government turned them down, knowing full well the adoption was really a PR move. Of course, if the events in Missouri are any sign, Georgia will probably lose their battle too. In a society that treasures free speech and freedom of belief, those liberties belong to everyone, even the bad guys.
#8 The KKK Store That’s Owned By A Black Pastor Laurens, South Carolina has a sad history when it comes to racism. The town is named after an 18th century slave trader and, like many southern cities, was plagued by segregation and civil injustice. As an example of its tragic past, look no further than the Echo Theater. Once upon a time, African-Americans were forced to enter through a side door and watch movies from the balcony, separated from their white neighbors. Today, Echo Theater is home to the notorious Redneck Shop, a little store that sells Klan merchandise and hosts neo-Nazi meetings. But while the store is run by a racist named John Howard, the theater itself belongs to Rev. David Kennedy, a black pastor. Why does an African-American reverend own a KKK shop? Well, the answer is kind of complicated. The story starts in 1994, when John Howard befriended a young man named Michael Burden. Howard took Burden under his wing, taught him the ways of the Klan, and let Burden and his family live in the Echo Theater basement. But Burden’s wife, who was part Cherokee, eventually grew tired of Howard’s racism. She wanted to leave, but Howard didn’t want his protégé to move. Hoping to appease the family, Howard gave Burden the deed to the theater under the condition he could run the Redneck Shop until his death. Despite Howard’s gift, the two men eventually had a fight, and the elder racist kicked the Burdens out of the basement. The Burdens were alone and had nowhere to go, and that’s when Rev. Kennedy and the New Beginning Church stepped in. Despite the fact Burden was a Klansman, the black church bought his family dinner and rented them a hotel room. And as Burden was desperate for cash, he asked Rev. Kennedy if he’d buy the deed for the Echo Theater for $1,000. Kennedy agreed, and that’s how an African-American pastor came to own a KKK shop. And that’s when the drama really started. In 2006, Howard tried to sell the building, either not knowing or not caring it actually belonged to Kennedy. Hoping to stop the old racist, Kennedy sued Howard in 2008, sparking a four year legal battle over who rightfully owned the Echo Theater. During the long, grueling process, Kennedy’s church came under attack from local racists who left dead animals inside and nailed Confederate flags to the front doors. Finally, in 2012, a circuit judge ruled the theater rightfully belonged to the New Beginning Church… only they couldn’t kick Howard out. According to the deed, he could keep on selling his Klan robes and offensive T-shirts until the day he died. Of course, Howard is a sick man, and he might not be around much longer. And what does Kennedy plan on doing with the building once he can finally close down the Redneck Shop? Well, he says, “I think that the church would do good in that building.”
#9 The KKK Neighborhood Watch The citizens of Fairview Township in York County, Pennsylvania don’t have to worry about leaving their kids at home or locking their doors at night. Aside from the fact they have an extremely low crime rate, their neighborhoods are under the ever watchful eye of the Traditionalist American Knights, a KKK group based in Missouri. Lucky, lucky them. Earlier this year, Pennsylvanians were dismayed to find leaflets declaring, “You can sleep tonight knowing the Klan is awake!” Chances are good the flyers had the exact opposite effect, especially on anyone who wasn’t white, Protestant, or native born. Of course, the Knight’s leader, Frank Acona, claims his group isn’t “targeting any specific ethnicity.” They’re just concerned about all the recent car break-ins and aim to put a stop to it. To make things hard on the criminals, Acona’s men will give up their hoods in exchange for everyday clothing. This way, the crooks will never know which ugly, bucktoothed, unshaven white guy hanging around the neighborhood is a Klansman. But why would the Klan want to form a watch group? Well, they need as much publicity as they can get. Whereas they once were nearly four million men strong, today the Klan boasts less than four thousand members. Groups like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) believe the Klan is desperate to recruit fresh troops and hopes crazy schemes will draw in new blood. However, there’s one last question… why aren’t they wearing their robes? According to the ADL, it’s because they’re not really patrolling the streets. As the Pennsylvania chapter of the Traditionalist American Knights probably has less than fifty members, they don’t have enough men to actually watch out for crooks. And that’s just fine with the folks of Fairview Township.
#10 The KKK Tried To Start Their Own Country Michael Perdue was a loser with big dreams. A Texas convict with Nazi ties, Perdue wanted what everyone wants — to conquer the island of Dominica and establish his own little empire. It was 1980, and the little nation had only been independent from Great Britain for two years. They didn’t have an army, and their newly created police force wasn’t exactly a top notch crime fighting agency. With enough money and the right men, Perdue figured staging a coup would be easiest thing in the world. He was wrong. The plan involved returning the recently deposed Dominican Prime Minister, Patrick John, to power. In exchange, John would give Perdue the right to export lumber and open a casino. The Texan also planned to start a lucrative cocaine operation and become rich beyond his wildest dreams. (Unbeknownst to Perdue, John actually planned on killing him once his position was restored.) With a puppet dictator in place and financial backing from Canadian mobsters, Perdue visited David Duke, the recently retired Grand Wizard of the Knights of the KKK. Duke thought the idea sounded great but was smart enough not to get directly involved. Instead, he agreed to help Perdue rent a boat and suggested several Klansman who might like to invade an island populated by black people. With Duke’s help, Perdue was able to assemble a team of ten mercenaries, almost all of whom were either Klansmen or Neo-Nazis. In fact, one of the gunmen was none other than Don Black, the current Grand Wizard of the Knights of the KKK. After nicknaming their little mission “Operation Red Dog,” the group armed themselves with thirty-three guns, twenty sticks of dynamite, several blasting caps, and five thousand bullets. In addition to their weapons, they also brought along Nazi flags, Confederate flags, and plenty of whiskey. Their plan was to set sail from Louisiana, invade the island, and seize the armory and police station. It seemed like a solid plan, but they didn’t count on the charter boat captain. When he learned about Perdue’s plans, he immediately notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). What happened next sounds like a scene from a crazy comedy. On the night the mercenaries were to set sail, they met with undercover ATF agents posing as sailors. The officers loaded Perdue’s private army into the back of a van, explaining they’d drive them to the boat. Only when the doors were finally opened, the halfwit army found themselves staring down the barrel of forty SWAT team machine guns. “You’re not going to Dominica,” a voice epically boomed. “You’re going to jail!” Unfortunately, David Duke escaped prosecution due to a lack of evidence, but the rest of the nutty gang was found guilty of conspiracy and violation of the Neutrality Act. And while they never established their Ku Klux Kingdom, the “Bayou of Pigs” incident lives on as a tribute to true Klan stupidity.

Pilgrimage: Manaoag, Pangasinan
For the past 4 years, UST has chosen Our Lady of Manaoag Shrine as the place of pilgrimage for the Thomasian students. After being postponed, we were rescheduled to have it on the 4th of May 2017. A few days before our trip, we were told that our call time would 5AM and we should leave the campus by exactly 6AM. It was a pretty tough situation for me as I live in Quezon City. I decided not to stay over the night with some of my friends who live nearby UST it is because I didn’t want to bring a lot of stuff with a big bag during the trip. So then, the night before the scheduled trip, I immediately went home after our 7PM class has ended. Once I arrived home, I packed my things that are only necessary and even called a Jollibee delivery at night for my snacks. By 11PM, I was already getting anxious that I wouldn’t be able to get up by 3AM. So then I forced myself to sleep and thankfully woken up by the alarms that I had set. I took me an more than an hour to finish up my morning routines. I wasn’t certain whether there would be a SUV’s at that time so it took me several minutes to decided whether I leave by commute or just book an UBER. It was already quarter to 5 when I decided to book an UBER that would drive me to UST a lot faster than when I commute (yeap, the call time was 5AM and I left home by that time. Hehehehe). I arrived UST by exactly 6AM and rushed over to the bus that was assigned to us. And as I was expecting, we left the campus a few minutes late (Filipino time).
While on the bus heading to the stop over, I dozed off right away to catch up with my drowsiness. After few minutes, I haven’t noticed that we were already at the place where we will be having our pit stop. When we saw Starbucks, Mykhael and I headed there immediately to order our usual drink. I was in awe when I saw the store as the ambiance seems serene that you would definitely think that this place is really just for chilling. Even the comfort room is high on technology as it was already controlled by sensor instead of manually opening the door. The baristas and other crew members has their own touch pad beside the door that requires a pass code for them to be able to use it. I was almost fooled by it if I was one of the first person who used it. Good thing there were students who used it first at told how to use it to the next person who will be using it. While Mykhael is still ordering for our drink, I went to Mcdo which is only across the store of Starbucks and that is where I was able to locate Vince and Mikka queuing for their turn to order and I asked them a favor to include my order with them then gave a money and head back to Starbucks for our drink. After the errands in the pit stop, we now head to Manaoag and while on the bus, we started by praying of the holy rosary. I headed back to my sleep after we prayed until we reached our destination.
By the time we arrived at the place, I suddenly missed our home in Pangasinan and felt the urge to go home although we’re not allowed to go somewhere else hehe. Upon arriving, we were told to go to the church. While walking the locals started to approach us and offering rosary bracelets to be blessed after the mass. Mikka and I are searching for the right bracelet that would fit perfectly for us but it took us a while. I find it kind of cute how the locals reacted when I attempted to speak on our local language which is Pangalatok and they seem pretty amazed and asked where I live and had a chitchat with them for a while after I purchased the bracelet. We then headed to the church to hear the mass and had our lunch after. Some of us headed back to the bus to eat the food that we bought at the pit stop. It was in the middle of the afternoon and the weather is too hot. Good thing our bus driver was too kind that he opened the aircon of our bus for us to be comfortable while we eat our lunch. Once we finished our lunch, I head back into the church and bought a few candles for me to light and pray. We then get back on our schedule which is to pray the holy rosary inside the church. After the rosary, we were given the chance to get closer with Our Lady of Manaoag and I took the opportunity to pray and asked for her guidance in everything I do in life especially for our thesis. After completing the activities in our schedule, we were given a free time to bond and roam around the vicinity. I was then accompanied by Mary Fe and we decided to fall in line where we could touch the veil of Our Lady of Manaoag. We find ourselves then buying kakanin such as tupig and putong Calasiao which we normally buy for pasalubong whenever I go home in our province with my family.
2 o’clock was our call time to head back in UST. Before leaving, Mary made sure that all of us were complete. It is then where the fun started when the karaoke has started. The whole block took turns in singing while inside the bus until we reached the last stop over. It was really traffic by the time we reached Manila and we’re glad that there’s a karaoke that divert our attention from getting pissed at the congested traffic. It was past 7 by the time we arrived UST and once we got down from the bus, I hurriedly went home safely and called it a day. It was truly a blessed day for all of us!
