Edit: Have further thoughts that I left on a YouTube video but I feel like posting them here, too. I love this chapter and all the parallels being drawn between Bonney and Luffy. The sheer potential of each of their powers that defy everyone's initial idea of what they are-- Luffy embodies how radical resilience and joy are and has awakened his fruit (attained a form of enlightenment) through sheer imagination and desire for freedom from the restraints of reality and physics; Bonney embodies the power in imagining potential futures for herself, which I think ties into the importance of Kuma's decision to keep her diagnosis from her all this time. If he had told her, her perception of her future might have become more limited and she might not have been able to push the boundaries of her ability the way that she does now. Both Luffy and Bonney's ignorance of the truth-- in Luffy's case the true ability of his fruit, in Bonney's the true nature of her disease-- enabled them the freedom of real self-discovery and exploration. The fact that Bonney set out on her journey by punching the barrier to her freedom in the face, just like Luffy did with the sea king when he left home, speaks volumes. The fact that Kuma and Dragon are so directly paralleled here, where Kuma ends up proving Dragon's fears right by having his child used against him, having him be turned literally into an instrument of the forces he's been fighting against his whole life, that speaks a lot as well. Also, I try really hard not to project or make suppositions about the author's motivations, and I could 100% be wrong about this, but it's so hard for me not to imagine that at least some of this is Oda's love letter to his own daughters and wishing he could be there with them as they grow up.

Y'know, I think that was the first backstory where I cried every chapter. I usually only cry at the end, but nope, I was crying the entire time.

I really enjoyed the Kuma Flashback/Non-Stop Trauma Train, but I am ready to get back to present day Egghead, there's so much going on!

Singular Morsel Chapter 1101 spoiler thoughts about Stuss - who freaking else, ever? ;-;

After the Buckingham reveal, I thought that she was pretending to be snippy about her age because she was supposed to act like the original Miss Buckingham, who's quite elderly by now. It could be a "she aged well - but don't ask by how much!" type of joke that Stussy was leaning into.

But now? With her not seeing herself as a full person in 1101, I want to know more than EVER what parts of her she let herself choose. Her beautiful salmon dress and iconic hat at the wedding - would she ever wear clothes like that if Buckingham didn't? Would she have become this posh, cunning femme fatale had Buckingham herself not been both classy (in her eyes) and quite beautiful back in the day? Like, what parts of herself did she LET herself pick out? Is she still wrestling with where Buckingham Stussy ends and Just Stussy begins? Like, from underground empress to CP0 agent to MADS experiment to the woman inside of all these shells and costumes - how is she treating her beating heart today?

Anyhow back to business Kumas flashback continues as he is seen going through modifications and also obsessively writing letters to Bonney. Which are destroyed by that alpha nurse... Dragon admits to Kuma that children are their parents weakness... huh no kidding Dragon 🙄😒 did take you to make Luffy to find that out huh?!

Essentially that's why Dragon isn't around his son...which is a flawed strategy in my eyes because it relied heavily on Garp keeping his mouth shut as a marine vice admiral... anyways thats my opinion..enjoy the screenshots.

I knew the World Government was evil, but ripping up the letter's Kuma wrote to Bonney? That's messed up, even for them! Seeing Bonney finally set sail and be free is cathartic!

It has been a while since I have discussed about the One Piece Manga with the latest events in the Egghead arc, and there is a lot that happened when it came to the strawhats trying to escape along with an encounter between Bonney and St. Jaygarcia Saturn that leads us into her backstory that connects to her father Kuma.

People seem to think she’s Luffy’s Nika, but I believe this is meant to be HER idea of Nika; her dad. Her [ hopeful ] liberator, her hero..

The change in her form is if she was his biological daughter… which is tragic.

Okay, new amazing Bonney ability: she can become the future she imagines. That feels so metaphorical lmao, she's a poster-child for the revolution. This panel also suggests that Kuma already thought Luffy might be Nika before Luffy ever set out to sea.
