Oh man.
Does this imply that Shanks would've probably gone after the One Piece earlier, but chose to wait until Luffy had accomplished enough that they could both compete for it?
Because I really like the idea that Shanks decided that him and Luffy are equals now, so they can finally officially compete as pirate crews.
I wonder if they're going to meet at Laugh Tale, or if that theory that they're going to compete with all the Road Poneglyphs on the line through a Davy Back fight is right?

Oda + Toei = top tier foreshadowing ?
Wano & Egghead spoilers under the cut (chapters 1053 to 1059)
Okay so these are the eyecatchers from episode 966 (aired on 2021.03.21) :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back then and until recently I thought "the Roger Pirates are gonna be in Mock Town next so that's why they show us Teach and Luffy's first encounter..."
But more than a year later, chapter 1053 (2022.06.20) reveal the new Yonkou lineup, and here's the cover of chapter 1054 (2022.06.25) :
Tumblr media
(Not only the combo is correct it's also displayed in the same order)
Just- How much insight about the next storylines or plot twists does Oda give to the people at Toei ?
I mean I know there's a time gap between the manga and anime and okay, they spoil us things in the openings often but- THIS EPISODE GOT OUT MORE THAN A YEAR BEFORE THINGS ACTUALLY HAPPENED 👀
Mock Town meetings ? Or foreshadowing ? They're going to kill me someday 😭
Or maybe Oda has a thing with patterns ? OF COURSE HE DOES, this is the cover of Volume 25... released in 2002 👀
Tumblr media
...Either way One Piece will always blow my mind, I guess 😂
On a related note, I thought back of this panel in chapter 1059 :
Tumblr media
I'm going to ignore the grief and the anger that Rayleigh must still feel 2 years after the war
I really think that "I really don't like you" sounds like "I don't acknowledge you (while I personally trained the other three Yonkou so I know what they're worth)" 😂

yeah he is far worse then akainu ( who at least genuinely believes that what he is doing is justice and hates cd , and wouldnt just go attack people to feel superior)
I mean lets look at the 3 things he is hated on for
( the destroyingoharas ship for the chance scholars may be on it when he could have just checked or should have decided that the civilian casualty is too great ( justified hate )
or bringing up attacking koby for daring to suggest they stop is justified
but killing ace and the deserters ( is when you can argue because killing deserters in a war is standard in the times of golden age of piracy ( and ned stark would do kill a deserter)
and killing ace ( lets be real here ace was a pirate slated for execution had everything gone to plan ace would have died to a grunt)
and if ace doesnt die the marines effort would have gone to waste ( akainus pov)
not to mention akainu focusing on ace and luffy due to their fathers ( their bloodlines and showings would mean they have a great potential for power so in akainus eyes it would be him stopping them from reaching their potential and becoming serious threats ( they were already pirates )
Ryokugyu aka Greenbull is Piece of Rubbish and a Bootlicker! [spoilers from ch-1053/54/55]
Now that we have context after chapter 1054 and 1055, he came to Wano because he got beat up by Sabo and couldn’t face Sakazuki without showing some results!
Tumblr media
He thinks he is mighty and all important! He cares about his image as big shot in Navy! Because he wants to be seen as someone influential and respectable, after his defeat he has lost his face, by extension credibility. To earn a pat on the back from his boss, he wants to attack a defenceless and vulnerable country with full man power!
Tumblr media
Well, guess what you are still rubbish.
Tumblr media
This father*fuc*ker will lick the roads of people who are higher in the food chain! To him the Celestial Dragons are gods, not because they did something divine or helped humanity because they are symbol of absolute power. He would bend over for World Nobles and over his arse to them to let those ras*cals fuck him over and over again if it means he could rise up the ladder or earn some favour.
Tumblr media
And he would do the same to anyone beneath him in the hierarchy of social order! He will exploit and abuse people beneath him and fuck them over at every opportunity if it means he can prove his worth.
People of Wano have no human rights in his eyes is because they are not affiliated to WG, so for him it is a lawless ground where he can take out his own frustrations and anger and execute his own fantasies!
That is exactly what is expected of a celestial dragon and this what a celestial dragon does when they visit any nation (affiliated or not). They trample on people beneath them because that fuels their superiority complex. And to experience that same superiority complex Greenbull has come to Wano, to trample on people of Wano, Capture Luffy and get praise out of Sakazuki!
Tumblr media
I would’ve still overlooked his behaviour because he is on the antagonist side and we are meant to dislike him. But that overlooking would’ve happened had he been an ignorant participant of the propaganda and just doing what he was told. Or someone raised to believe in the system as absolute guiding path.
But this filth is an informed and active participant of reinforcing hegemonic ideas! He cannot be excused!
Tumblr media
We understand it better now, when Shanks arrives on the seas of Wano and stops him from rampaging! Greenbull didn’t stop because he is weak or too afraid of Shanks. He stopped because he knows Shanks is higher on the priority list of World Government and Sakazuki had asked him not fuck up it further. But he came, because he wanted to avenge his humiliation at hands of Sabo.
Tumblr media
My dislike for filth grows every passing second!
Greenbull aka Ryokugyu is a Filth!

i'm caught up with end of wano, so here's some parallels from one piece that could be or don't have to be connected, but are still pretty cool.
long post ahead & wano spoilers
protecting new era:
rayleigh protecting zoro at sabaody from an attack by kizaru, ch 511
Tumblr media Tumblr media
luffy protecting law from an attack by doflamingo, with same move as rayleigh above, dressrosa ch 782
Tumblr media
at the end of wano, ch 1055, shanks telling ryokugyu a similar thing as rayleigh above ("don't pick the buds before they sprout. their era is only just the beginning"),
shanks "when the new shoots that just changed pirating history are exhausted, (..) are you that afraid of the new era?!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
---
zoro king of hell
same page as luffy protecting law - with haki clashing against doflamingo, the panels after that talking about supreme king haki - qualities of a king,. in this context for doflamingo, ch 782
Tumblr media
at amazon lily ppl reacting to luffy using supreme king haki, while he doesn't know he just did, ch. 519. "that's the haki of the chosen ones' only one in millions has that spirit!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
vs, zoro unknowingly unleashing haki of supreme king for (possibly) the first time, ch 997
Tumblr media
and later during his rooftop fight against kaido, (and still denies/ doesn't know what they're talking about, which is very interesting). ch 1010
Tumblr media
then during his fight with King, unleashing haki, which makes others around fall unconscious (as mentioned above to doflamingo is a sign of supreme king haki), ch 1033
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and some more chapters later, claiming the title of King of Hell (funny in this context it was told to doflamingo he was chosen by the heavens, and for zoro he became the king of hell. smth smth about the character work there).,
and as always - connected to luffy and his dreams!. ch 1036
Tumblr media Tumblr media
then there's the asura figure surrounding zoro's powers,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i find it so interesting that on wikipedia about asura (which zoro's sword and fighting styles are also based on with hindu and buddhist religions) is mentioned they're "considered enemy of the gods"
Tumblr media
i like how it's the same phrase as we also heard in the manga before form law's flashbacks about corazon, ch 764
Tumblr media
this is in the context of the people with the D. name, and then mostly used for law himself, and luffy and how far he's come to truly wreck the world government, as well as them being a threat to the celestial dragons.
luffy and nika:
from point above, i like how the "enemy of gods" being applied to people with the name D. is also interesting in the context of luffy awakening his devil fruit powers, which are named sun god nika. (i know that in the phrase "enemy of gods" mean gods as the celestial dragons, but it's still interesting)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
which doesn't take away from luffy's character as i was a bit worried at first.
he's testing the new skills and powers, and he sees how he can reach the new limits he couldn't before. it might have been the devil fruit that chose who would eat it, but it's luffy and his dream that make the decisons., ch 1045
Tumblr media
and ch 1049
Tumblr media
luffy in ch 507 & 1053, his core ideals are still the same
Tumblr media Tumblr media
---
not fighting someone
shanks not fighting the mountain bandits, and luffy not understanding it, ch 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jaya arc, luffy and zoro not fighting against bellamy, and nami not understanding at first, ch 225
Tumblr media
and ch 1054, momonosuke telling yamato not to fight the navy guy because he wants to be able to protect wano, and let yamato go to the seas as he wants to - it's just that similar energy that luffy has when he tells someone not to fight (or when to fight), without almost any explanations.
Tumblr media
also loved this usopp moment!, - could be paralelled to his whole character arc. ch 1036.
he's so real for saying this to kin and kiku (and samurai in general). he's always scared and sometimes can be acting like a coward, but he always, always, stands up for his crew and fights to live through whatever hell luffy puts in front of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-- wano was so good and there are so many thoughts about one piece in my head now, about each of the characters and their development/meanings/themes! OTL

knee jerk reaction (shanks and buggy)?—One Piece 1082 Spoilers
***
So Buggy wants to and wanted to go after the One Piece:
Tumblr media
Much to the consternation of Crocodile and Mihawak but with the full support of
Tumblr media
Buggy's men. And I had to include Croc and Mihawk's reactions there. You can imagine Mihawk saying, "You dastardly rat, you" (or cockroach or clown).
And why? Because he seemed to have thought that Shanks wasn't going to go for the One Piece at all, despite Shanks saying that he just wasn't ready for it yet.
Tumblr media
And Shanks had said that he and Buggy were gonna get to Laugh Tale together.
Tumblr media
He uses 'our' in the English. There's no exclusion, and Buggy sees that Shanks shines brightly, but I don't see Shanks
saying that he'll be the one, nor that he needs to exclude Buggy, just that he needs to
Tumblr media
wait. Maybe for Buggy to power up or come into a realisation of his own power / worth, which is a wily beast indeed? Anyway, Red is on the move as Buggy says:
Tumblr media
Maybe with a different right hand man (I love Beck too). But maybe that's the point, he and Buggy might meet as equals
Tumblr media
[caption: Shanks prior to getting the road poneglyph and others from the Kid Pirates]
And they're not gonna claim the One PIece together, cos' that's Luffy's job, but maybe they will try together (competition is fine too, though).
As an aside, this frame about Luffy and Bartolomeo and Bartolomeo replacing the Red Haired Flags with Luffy's own from chapter 1054:
Tumblr media
I don't know if I'm reading this right, but Shanks doesn't go after Bartolomeo because he replaced Shanks' flags with Luffy's, and because they were Luffy's flags he's letting it slip, OR that seeing Luffy now without dealing with Bartolomeo first might imply that Shanks agrees with the actions (and maybe he does), OR that they're going to hurt an ally of Luffy's, or that they need to hurt him so that Luffy doesn't think that Shanks is humouring Luffy.... I'm not 100% sure, but anyway I'm leaning towards the idea that the One Piece might be found by both Shanks and Buggy, but its truth worth lies beyond that, and that is what Luffy will gain.
Messy analysis, sorry. BUT, if Buggy had been patient, would things have gone differently? Would he have joined Shanks' crew if he'd gone straight for the One Piece, or did he imagine they'd sail as comrades of an equal standing (maybe not, due to his description of Shanks' potential, but that might've been Buggy-generated). A friend has said Buggy's a candidate for Conqueror's Haki and he's probably right.
This meta meandered. Sorry.

With a break week coming up, I thought I'd do a bonus post, a sort of follow-up of the thoughts that have built up over the past few days and acknowledge some theories and ideas that I've seen that I think could be relevant.
To start off with, I want to go over a few points that go against the idea's I presented above:
-First of all, in the comments of the re-blogged post, @gothicratstatue brings up the fact that the time-sensitive nature getting the One Piece is probably because the awakened Gum-Gum fruit was needed to get to the One Piece. It's backed up in the manga as well, as in Chapter 1054, right before Shanks says that he's goingg after the One Piece, he's staring at a bounty poster of Luffy in Gear 5.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was something I had never caught till it was pointed out to me, so I'm still kind of trying to figure out how it would fit. Seemingly, Luffy would be the key that Shanks has cultivated to open the way to the One Piece. Would that make him a villain? Who knows? Shanks believes in fairness as we've seen in the latest chapter but his overall morality is still in the air. I think this is a vital piece of information that will fit nicely into the story as we progress further. My own ideas run counter to this but I thought it was important that I highlight this.
Because I think Shanks will get the One Piece first, and without Luffy. At first I used to think someone else would, probably Blackbeard, but I didn't have a definite idea of who it could be. Before it could've even been the World Government. But now, with Shanks becoming a clear contender for the One Piece, he is the ideal candidate and a perfect fit. Why do I think someone is going to get the One Piece before Luffy? Mainly because of these two things:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do yall remember this guy? Gaimon? In Chapter 22, he was on an island where, in an attempt to reach it's treasure high up on a ledge, he fell off and became lodged in a treasure chest. And then Luffy came and scaled the ledge only to find the treasure had already been taken. This is one of those early stories in One Piece that always stuck with me. That and Chou-Chou (I'll talk about my theory on that one day). But despite it being a poignant short story, I think the reason for it's inclusion is vital. We all know Oda loves his cyclical stoytelling. So much so that it's become a trope within his story itself. So, why was this highlighted so early on? And is it even relevant? I think it is, because of the other picture. When the Straw Hats got to the Golden Bell of Shandora only to find that the Roger Pirates had already been there before, and not rung it. These are two significant moments where people got to something before Luffy did. And there's a lot more moments where that has happened, even with Ace for example, but to me, nothings struck as discordant a note as these two. And like with comedy, magic, and Chekov's gun, these plot points work best in three's. And I think the third moment in these discordant moments is going to be when Luffy gets to the One Piece and finds that the One Piece has been taken already. And with Shanks going after it earnestly, he becomes the perfect person to pull it off, his relationship with Luffy providing further uneasiness to the whole situation.
I also want to touch on some points with the One Piece that we should be thinking about when going forward. So I'm sure a lot of us have heard the theories that the One Piece is sake cups or the idea of the red line being destroyed. But Shanks actively going after it shows a few things. One, It's a material thing, not an Idea. I'm pretty sure Oda had confirmed this before but I'm not to sure. But canon confirmation is nice to have. Second, It can be taken. So, probably something that can be carried on a ship or an a person. Likely a ship so it can play in to the whole strength of a crew needed to move it. And Third, that it possibly provides some sort of advantage. This is the most unstable of the three assumptions but given the fact that Shanks is doing this after the Balance of the world has been shaken up and we can assume he has some sort of goal he wants to accomplish, we can assume that the One Piece will help him with that. Now, I don't have a conclusion that I'm leading to with these assumptions but I did want to make sure to point it out as it supports the theory that Luffy might not find it at Laughtale when he gets there. I have my own crack-pot theories of spaceships and moon journeys that have little hold on facts that I'm leaning towards. But those are thoughts for another day.
-Okay, Now we get to the second refutation. And that's the idea that the character's that have been turned into stone by S-Snake, Franky and Ussop, will be turned over to the government as that is York's contingency plan. And the evidence that goes against that is meta-textual. In the sense that we know that we have to Journey to Elbaf. Oda has built up Elbaf almost as much as he had built up Wano, if not more, and our journey has always pointed in that direction. And the person who that Island matters to most (notwithstanding my crackpot theories on Nami) is Ussop. It's absolutely integral to his being that he meets the brave warriors of Elbaf. And due to that fact, there's little chance of him being missing in action during that arc.
But that leaves the question of what is York's contingency plan? This brings me to a theory that I saw on reddit, that states that the Egghead Incident will likely be Kuma's memories being broadcast all over the world. Please read the theory, it makes some excellent points. But that brings us to the how? As Vegapunk didn't even want Bonney to see them, likely storing them for Kuma's return.
But we've seen that Vegapunk has a way of broadcasting memories back into the giant brain on egghead and has even floated the possibility of a pseudo internet by linking people's brains together. It then seems simple enough for him to do it the other way around and broadcast the memories throughout the world. Only that is what York intends to do. Not as a bargaining chip, but to secure her own safety as a whistleblower as the alliance with the world government has already crumbled. Eliminating her would only confirm the memories broadcasted and she would also likely have safe haven amongst any of the countries moved into action by the broadcast. I feel like she's betting somewhere along those lines for her contingency plan. But it also does seem like she might have a use for the Straw Hats. Perhaps there's a chance she tries to use both the memories and captured Straw Hats as bargaining chips before negotiations fail permanently.
-And now the third and final refutation before we get to some general thoughts. With the devastating loss of Kid, we could see Law lose as well. But how would Law get away? Because Law is an important enough character that I don't see his death being off-screened (though Cobra does give me pause on that) but I also see Blackbeard gaining his fruit. How can both things happen then? I believe, and this is without much backing up by facts, just purely out of the dramatic tension it would build and the revelations it would help to show, that Blackbeard or someone in his crew will get the Ope-Ope-No-Mi, use it in a dramatic fashion long before we find out that Law is still alive.
We still don't know how Blackbeard consumed two fruits or steals fruits at all. We assumed that it required the death of the previous user, as Absalom and Whitebeard seemed to show, but recent revelations with Vegapunk could refute that. Vegapunk was able to infuse the Seraphims with devil fruits despite the users still being alive, meaning that non-lethal extraction should be possible. SO to help show that, I believe there's a chance that Oda pulls off that moment in the fashion as described above. My main motivation for this type of thinking is Law's continued contribution to the story. He just seems too important to be off-screened.
Okay, now on to one last discussion about Shanks:
-What I didn't mention in the re-blogged post is that, the short exchange this chapter showed how dedicated and loving Shanks is to his people. We see Kid's destructive capabilities and Shanks doesn't even for a second risk his people getting hurt as he brutally and mercilessly annihilates Kid. This shows how very 'Me and Mine' Shanks is. He's portective and nice to his people but I can't tell for certain that it comes from the same place of Empathy that it does for Luffy. Shanks is mercurial and his motivations obscure, but I think there is an argument to be made for him being evil. But fair in his evil.
I mainly come to this idea because Shanks has been paralleled with Green Bull in an interesting way. Greenbull is a plant based devil fruit user and is into the idea of plucking the weeds before they spread, nipping the problem at the bud and not letting people get strong enough to pose a problem.
Shanks on the other hand, has been the exact opposite. He supports the flourishing talents of the younger generation, protects them, and even encourages them. But as we see with Kid, once they have fully developed, he's not above annihilating them. This shows the possibility that Shank's doesn't necessarily do this for altruistic reasons and it does give credence to the idea that Shanks is using Luffy to open the way to the One Piece. We know Shanks has a goal, whenever we've seen him, he's in a different part of the world and it seems puroseful. I'm reminded of the time we found him in a icy cave (not sure what chapter) and it seemed he wanted to be there. This makes me think, Shanks does everything with regards to this master plan he has been working on for the past while.
If you've read this far, thank you so much! I appreciate yall! I'm once again in awe of Oda, as this chapter didn't have much aside from the fight with Kid, but he still managed to get me to barf out so many thoughts in response. And I'm only one amongst so many people that are going to absolutely obsess over this chapter. I know we've all felt it for the last little while, especially since "He Laughed". But it really does drive home the point we're in the endgame with each chapter that passes.
One Piece-Chapter Round-Up(Chapter 1079)
Tumblr media
I’m sorry, Kid fans. That’s all I can say to y’all. I can’t even clown on you cause that was brutal. But before we get to that, let’s go through everything else. The cover story of Germa 66 ended last chapter with the creation of Neo-MADS and now Oda is doing requests. The analytical part of me is like trying to figure out what it could mean, but mostly I’m enjoying squat little Luffy living his best life. Though I do want that shirt. It looks luxurious. Alright, enough fun and bush beating cause right away Oda answers some really important questions, like how York planned it and how she had S-Snake attack her and free her, but tees up another question in its stead; What is York’s contingency plan? Because everything that’s happened since the shit hit the fan has been a part of it, and that means that the Straw Hats are most definitely involved as S-Snake spared them but killed Edison. The simplest answer would be that York plans to turn in the Straw Hat crew to become a celestial dragon but is she really that naive that she thinks that she even has a chance of being a dragon anymore? So it’s gotta be something else then, probably what gets deemed this the ‘Egghead Incident’, such as a mass release of information or something. I’ll go more in depth past the ‘Keep reading’ so click to read more!
I think something akin to Whitebeard saying the One Piece is Real or Firefly’s can’t stop the signal moment could cap off the ‘Egghead Incident’ with the world learning something that demands action. Though I can’t guess what it could be. It’s gotta be something we don’t know.  Anyways as we read on, we see the island and Sentomaru evacuating while something sails closer to Egghead… Another piece of the Incident. Blackbeard’s ship! With Shanks remarking later how he was surprised that Blackbeard didn’t show up at Wano it makes me wonder what’s about to go down here. Because I think it’s more likely Blackbeard divided his forces in between Egghead and the Island shown in Chapter 1063 where he was fighting with Law. So I don’t think Blackbeard is here, as it’s implied that he was fighting Law at the same time as the Straw Hats were exploring Egghead. And knowing Elbaf is Shanks’s territory he would have given that one up as he wouldn’t want to suffer the losses. So since Van Auger, Burgess, and Doc Q were with Blackbeard fighting Law, that leaves the rest of the crew, Shiryu, Pizarro, Lafitte, Catarina Devon, Sanjuan Wolf, Vasco Shot and Aokiji available to wreck shop on Egghead. Depending on the direction Oda wants to take this, Aokiji being or not being on the ship is going to signal how this arc will unfold. Although I think the Straw Hats are outright stronger than Blackbeard’s crew; Law was holding his own against five of them by himself, the Straw Hats are severely weakened from the battle with the Seraphims. If Aokiji is on the ship I think it has a chance to go really well for the Straw Hats, with Aokiji defecting and the Seraphims falling to their side as they fight off the government. But if Aokiji is not there, as the Blackbeard pirates need somebody to stay at their base, then I think it’s worst case scenario. One of the main players on the board that a lot of people seem to be overlooking is S-Snake. Because there is a very lose-lose condition with her. She’s already captured Franky and Ussop, and if her powers work just like Hancock’s then even if she’s taken down, no one can undo their stone form. Meaning that the good guys need to gain control of S-Snake or things will be going downhill fast. There’s a lot of things that could happen if Oda goes forwards with the worst case scenario. Some Straw Hats, especially the stone-turned Ussop and Franky, could be handed over to the World Government by York, the others could lose to Blackbeards crew and they could be driven back with their tail between their legs. I also think a showdown with the aforementioned available members is going to happen simply for the fact that Oda loves to show the parallels between Sanji and Zoro by switching their opponents up and I think he’ll have them take losses to Pizarro and Shiryu here. So yeah, a lot of unsubstantiated predictions off of one panel, but that’s just how it goes sometimes with One Piece. Moving on to the main course now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shanks versus Kid. It wasn’t really a match though, my boy swaggered onto the deck and then one-shotted Kid in the most brutal way possible. Okay that’s not fully fair, but we’ll work our way up to it. So first of all, the one thing I want to highlight is something Oda has been doing recently, especially with fights concerning Yonkou. Did you notice it? They’re on water! That’s right, after more than 20 years of a pirate manga, major battles are finally happening over water. I jest but Oda’s making a point to have both Law and Kid’s fights take place on water, showing how tilty the fights can get when one person has solid ground. Both of these fights were really fun so I hope we have more.
Right away, we see some fantastically goofy characters stand up to Kid in Shanks’s defense, and we soon find out how these goofy characters got so far as Elbaf. And that’s because of Shanks. Most of them are self-admittedly weak, using Shanks’s flag to be able to pirate around. This makes me think that Shanks, like Luffy, protects people's dreams, but to an outrageously generous degree, where people who want to be free on the seven seas are allowed to be simply because they want to as Shanks protects them. We also see that they were all meeting up, and it seems like Shanks was serious about going after the One Piece as that must be why he mobilized them. This also makes me think that the One Piece is time sensitive or otherwise Shanks would have gotten it much earlier. Maybe that’s why Roger laughed, he could’ve missed it by a day or so.
This chapter characterizes Shanks a lot, so forgive me for spending so much time on him. We rarely get such a detailed look at him. It also shows us how much he cares about fairness as he made sure Kid had recuperated enough from Wano, not just the ass-kicking Shanks’s men had given him earlier. Another thing that’s highlighted in this chapter is how much of an opposite Kid is to Shanks. Right away he claims he won’t hold back and is ready to fry all of the ships, but also the fact is, he is alone. He only has one ship and no allies like Luffy or any of the other Yonko do. It shows the difference between the two, with Law and Kid arguably being strong enough to be Yonko’s but not having enough political power in the form of wide spread crews to hold on to the title. It also brings into focus how important the politics of the world are, as connections and maneuverings of that sort are more important than raw strength, as can be seen with someone like Buggy.
Tumblr media
We also see how well the crew works together and how diligent Shanks is when he’s on. He seems easy going but he had his eye on Wano and is researching the fact that Kid’s from South Blue(wonder if that’s gonna play into the story somehow). And soon, we see why he’s easygoing. As Kid prepares an attack, Shanks gets a look far into the future of him destroying the ships. That’s why he’s so chill. His future sight is so advanced he can afford to be. And this also does Kid Justice without having him massacre nine ships worth of people, as we see Shanks get serious. With one attack he cuts through Kid’s rail gun and incapacitates his crew, getting Killer in the attack as well. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see the crew beg for Kid’s life as they hand over the poneglyph rubbings. And then Shanks jumps away and Dorry and Brogy annihilate the Kid Pirates.
Tumblr media
I think this is Oda signaling that things are getting serious. And also potentially hinting at what could happen to the Straw Hats. Especially if we learn a familiar fate has befallen the Heart Pirates. All three prevailing crews from Wano could be decimated, with the dregs joining each other. As Kid went down near Elbaf, it’s easy to imagine him and Killer joining Luffy when he gets to Elbaf, especially if Luffy is going there with a chunk of his crew missing. Also a side note before I end it, watching Shanks protect his fleet so viciously makes me wonder about Barto, as Barto was going around messing up Shanks’s territory. Stay safe my boy. Anyways, as always, that was a great chapter and I can’t wait for the next one.
Tumblr media
I love how cold all these panels are, absolute devastation. I'm kinda scared of Shanks now.

Ah, yes. Discrimination creates solace, allowing the "superior" countries to look down upon the "inferior" countries happily.
Yeah, totally not something villains say.

Okay but it would have been so funny if Robin actually told Crocodile that Pluton was in Wano. It would just be like
Robin: Uhm it’s not here, it’s in the Land of Wano...
Crocodile:
Crocodile: Are you telling me I’ve spent like 10 years taking over the wrong country
Crocodile: And the right country is one that a Yonko already called dibs on more than 20 years ago
Robin:
Cobra:
Luffy:
Crocodile:
Crocodile:
Crocodile: I’m going to break something

As much as I loved seeing the crew in the latest chapter, there was something missing, or rather, someone. And because a lot of my stories feature her going out to sea, have some Shanks x Makino and the Red-Hair Pirates! Or if you will, the Shanties version of chapter 1054<3
Times they are a-changin’
“Isn’t it about time to go and claim it?” he asked, his musing tone touched with the barest hint of an edge, as his eyes lifted from the cup. “The One Piece.”
A gentle snort shattered the weighty quiet, dragging all their eyes up the steps leading from the main deck, to the little figure that had emerged, standing with her hands on her hips, her laugh bubbling out of her with the words, “What was that?”
Cup still held to his lips, “What?” Shanks pouted. “I was trying to be cool!”
Walking down the steps, her graceful gait didn’t stutter, despite the churning waters pulling on his ship. She was handling the choppy sea with admirable fortitude, although Shanks noted the direction she’d come from, and wondered if she’d just finished puking.
He bit back the glib urge to ask, as she came up to the table where he was sitting with Ben. Bare-footed in rolled-up breeches and one of his oversized shirts under her flower-embroidered bodice, he had a mind to point out how much like a pirate she looked. Or at the very least, a very cute vagabond.
“Look at you,” Makino tutted, as a small hand lifted to card through his hair, pushing it back from his brow. The humidity was doing wonders to it. “You’d think there were cameras around, the way you’re strutting. And what is going on with your hair today?”
“Right?” His grin delighted in hers. “I don’t know what it is, but I look like I should be modelling for a shampoo brand. As for the strutting, you know what I say: you should always act as though there’s at least one paparazzi watching. That way you’re guaranteed there’ll never be any unflattering pictures of you in the paper.” Grinning, he chirped, “And if there aren’t any cameras, at least you look good. Honestly, i’s a win-win.”
“What wisdom you possess,” Makino mused, her laughter soft as he turned his head to kiss her wrist, a tender grin pressed to her pulse, before she reached down to pick up the newspaper he’d been reading, shifting so that she was leaning on the table in front of his chair, her legs brushing against his.
Shanks watched her skim the article, her dark eyes softening as they moved over the wanted poster he’d been considering earlier.
“Emperor, huh?” she murmured, her mouth curved up at the corners.
“Kid looks different,” Yasopp said, arms crossed where he leaned against the railing, before he added, this time with a different inflection, “’Course, he’s not a kid anymore.”
“He still looks like Luffy,” Makino said, without looking up from the wanted poster.
Shanks just smiled, but then there were few who knew the now-infamous rookie as well as she did. Then again, few others had seen him in diapers.
Smiling, “I look forward to seeing him again,” Makino said.
“Boss just announced we’re not stopping by Wano,” Lucky said, with obvious disappointment, and murmurs of agreement from most of their crew, having gathered around where they were sitting.
Makino’s smile said this wasn’t news to her, but her look didn’t divulge the reason behind his chosen course, as brown eyes lifted to meet his, watching her where she half-sat on the table, his legs parted to give her room.
Instead, “And good for Buggy,” she said, considering his photograph on the front page, predictably over the top. Shanks wondered if he’d personally requested they use that one.
“I hope you know he’s going to be insufferable,” Shanks said.
“More than you were?” Ben asked, and grinned around his toothpick when Shanks stuck his tongue out.
Shifting in her seat, his hand lifted to rest on her hip. “So, Emperor Red-Hair,” Makino said, with a gently arched brow. “You’re going to claim the One Piece? You’ve sure been taking your sweet time.”
His grin held no shame. “What can I say? I prefer a pirate’s life of leisure,” Shanks said. “Should probably get going soon though, or the kid’ll beat me to it.” His eyes danced. “If he wants it, he’ll have to go through me first. It’s only right. And he’s already defeated two Emperors; I’d be offended if he didn’t challenge me for it.”
“And what’s the plan?” she asked, reaching for the bottle to pour him another drink; a tender exchange rather than a habit left over from her former profession. Shanks only watched her, a broad hand skimming the length of her thigh where she sat, steady despite the gentle swaying of his ship.
Holding out the refilled cup to him, the smile dancing in her eyes said she was well aware of what he planned, but then Garp could blame him for a whole lot of things, but making her a good liar was not one of them. “He’ll reach the fabled island at the end of the world and find you waiting?”
“With drinks,” Shanks quipped, reaching to take the offered cup, his thumb sweeping the arch of her knuckles, startling a grin across her lips as he lifted his brows.
“We could barbecue if the weather is good,” Limejuice suggested, to hollering agreement from the rest of their crew.
“Let’s show these rookies how to party!!”
“And that we don’t take lightly to upstarts burning down our flag in our own territory!!”
“In that order, obviously,” Shanks said, tipping his drink back, and grinned when she laughed.
The roar of their cheers nearly drowned out the wind, leaving her grin helpless, although her look understood there was more than a party waiting, even as she told him, prim, “You better be prepared to face him then.”
His empty cup paused at his lips, “I’m sorry,” Shanks chuckled. “Are you saying I need to prepare?”
She gave a delicate shrug, holding up the newspaper. “You said it yourself: he’s already taken out two Emperors. Just because he adores you doesn’t mean he’ll go easy on you.”
“Hey, I’m featured on there, too!” Shanks protested, pointing to the four photographs gracing the front page.
“So is Buggy,” Yasopp pointed out. “What’s your point?”
Their laughter earned them all a middle finger, although hearing hers rising above the sea wind, wild as anything, his grin couldn’t have been helped if he’d tried his hardest.
She was considering his own photograph now, smoothing her thumb across the printed ink. One of his better pictures, if you asked him, and she wasn’t being subtle in her admiration, although the soft look in her eyes seized his teasing remark before it could leave him, as Shanks hid his smile behind the rim of his cup.
He watched her eyes shifting to the fourth photograph on the page, her soft mouth losing its smile, and the gentle look vanished from her eyes. And she never had been able to hide what she was feeling, Shanks thought, as he found it written across her face now, her delicate features furrowed with a rare seriousness.
But she didn’t invoke Blackbeard’s name, only folded up the newspaper to put it down, although when she reached for the cup he was holding, Shanks pulled it out of reach. “Hey!” He met her innocent look with a furrowed one. “You’re not drinking in your condition!”
“One tiny sip isn’t going to do anything,” Makino countered, but still complied, although, “I watched him take his first steps,” she said, gesturing to the paper, and Luffy’s wanted poster where she’d placed it atop it. “I just want to take part in the celebration.”
“We’ll do a jig later,” Shanks said, downing the last drops in the cup, just in case. “I can’t believe what I’m seeing,” he chided, putting it back on the table. “Most sensible girl I know, but a few weeks at sea with us and you’ve gone full rogue.”
“Hmm, well I learned from the best,” Makino said.
Sliding from the table, she leaned in to kiss him, and shrieked when he hooked his arm around her waist to pull her into his lap, her tiny frame shaking with laughter, softening as she supported herself against his chest.
His fingers skimmed her waist, the slight curve hidden by her bodice. One thing they were keeping from the papers, even if the evidence was there for those who knew how to look: his first mate’s missing cigarettes, and the way they’d all taken to hovering, especially whenever she wandered a bit too close to the railing. If she’d noticed, Makino hadn’t let on.
Running her fingers through his beard to cup his cheek, “I’ll behave,” she promised, kissing his lips softly as she withdrew from under his arm.
“Captain’s orders,” Shanks said. “But I could always discipline you a bit if that would give you more incentive.” Snapping his teeth at her playfully, his grin chased her laughter as she crossed the deck to where Bonk Punch was standing with their son on his arm, oblivious to the eyes tracking her passage, and the twitching hands ready to reach for her every time the ship gave even the smallest lurching movement.
Turning back found Ben watching him. “You’re an embarrassment,” he deadpanned.
Gesturing to his ear, “I’m sorry, what? I can’t hear you over all this wind!” Shanks shouted.
As though on cue, the rigging gave a warning creak as a strong gale sent the sails billowing out. But he knew these waters, and his ship, and knew the difference between a little rough weather and truly dangerous sailing conditions. Had it been the latter, he wouldn’t have risked coming here, their precious cargo taken into consideration.
The reminder drew his eyes across the deck to Makino, surrounded by his crew. The wind tugged at her loose braid, pulling rogue wisps free of her kerchief like thieving fingers. The overcast sky hid the sea glass in it, the sable colour stark against her salt-kissed cheeks.
“Won’t be long until he reaches it,” Ben said then, dragging his eyes back. His first mate’s look said more than his words, although he didn’t mince them, or beat around the bush. “Unless Teach beats him to it.”
Shanks said nothing, only poured himself another drink, his eyes on Luffy’s wanted poster. The way she’d placed it atop the paper left Blackbeard’s face obscured, but the reminder was ever-present, like a growing stain on his mind. His recent visit to Mariejois hadn’t helped; had only underscored that the World Government didn’t understand what they were up against.
Shanks understood. And soon, Luffy would, too. But then like he’d told Ben, it was time.
“You’re sure about how you want to play this?” Ben asked.
Shanks downed the cup, before putting it down. “I’m sure.”
Makino’s laughter drifted back, drawing his eyes across the deck, along with the rest of their crew. They were all watching her, the wind having dragged her hair completely free of its braid, but she didn’t seem to mind the weather, or the uneasy sea, her arms thrown out to the dancing waves, and her laughter carrying over the salt wind.
And as far as the world’s greatest treasure was concerned, at least among his crew, there was no question of what it was.
“So, uh,” Lucky said, after a beat.
“Someone mentioned a barbecue?”
