Love Luffy's adverse childhood experiences TM 'cause they really do be ranging

Raised as a feral village child and then by actual criminals in a cabin in the woods and THEN he lived in a treehouse with two ten year old boys with no adult supervisors to make sure they don't literally perish (this is a seven year old, for those unaware)

Fighting grown men who happen to be Seasoned Criminals on the regular with these two ten year olds

Uhhhh he got mauled by a bear that one time

He nearly drowned several times

He almost got eaten alive by a Sea King, and he witnessed Shanks getting his arm eaten to save him

Nearly being murdered several times by grown adults (and Ace)

It's implied that there were periods where Luffy didn't have the best food security. Like. As a Psych major???? This is just fascinating. It's a case study too wild to ever see in a textbook, at least in my experience, but the way these things play into his character has always seemed so realistic to me. Props to Oda ig. I doubt that he knew all of Luff's childhood from the beginning and yet he's such a consistent character

Someone who knows what it's like to be a freak, to be cast out from society. (I'm imagining him with a girl from Skypiea with cute little wings, maybe even antennae, who was treated much like a mermaid and hunted for her unusual appearance and was maybe rescued by Ace; might need to write a fic about this.)

Due to a childhood crush on a certain barmaid, low-key has a thing for green-haired women. It isn’t essential, but if a woman has green hair, she possesses a unique ability to turn him into a blushing mess, which he finds annoying considering he so quickly grew accustomed to turning them into blushing messes. Will fight anyone who teases him about his green hair weakness as it’s actually something of a sensitive topic for him. (Even had the slightest crush on Zoro when he met the Straw Hats for the first time, wouldn't have initiated anything with the swordsman but wouldn't have turned him down, either.) 

The most important thing for Ace is freedom, would have to be with someone who values it just as highly as he does (not just for him, but for themselves, too). Could easily be a one girl kind of guy (trust issues, wants something constant, steady, and dependable) but doesn’t want to settle down with that person. Rather, wants that person to run around the world with him. If you want to stay home and wait for him to come back, fine, but he'd prefer you go with him.

Someone who has a way with words. He doesn’t, so he’d think of your ability to put words to thoughts and feelings he’s had his entire life as some form of magic. 

Someone who thinks he hung the moon. He won’t understand why you think that, but your starry-eyed devotion to him will awaken something in him. Someone who giggles at his dumb jokes, who stands in awe and says, “whoah, cool,” when he shows off a new move, who lights up when he enters the room. Someone who thinks it’s cute when he swoops in and steals food off their plate, who will playfully punch his arm, someone who laughs when he throws them over his shoulder. Someone with a youthful energy.

But the youthful energy can't veer into immaturity. He wants and needs someone wise beyond their years, maybe even an old soul, someone who counsels him against acting rashly without nagging him to stop taking risks entirely. Someone who understands he's a risk taker and has measured criticism of that rather than a complete opposition to it.

Someone who understands that he struggles with emotional vulnerability and will meet him where he is. Also, someone who applauds him when he does put himself out there, someone who will never judge him for his feelings or reject his attempts at connecting. Someone who has very high emotional intelligence. 

He secretly, desperately craves the softness he never got in his childhood. Being cradled as he sleeps, having his hair brushed off his forehead, having food prepared and served for him, someone fussing over his little scrapes and cuts, etcetera.

Sweet. Wants someone who smiles/lights up when they see him, who says please and thank you for every little thing. Someone with very good manners and a singsong voice like Makino. Someone tough enough to negotiate for and take up space aboard a pirate ship, but without being callous and cold. Someone soft and warm, who doesn’t let the ugliness of the world get under their skin and is optimistic about the future- not just their own future, but his future, too. 

Someone very observant. He has a lot of trauma and baggage that he never talks about, and he would fall head over heels for someone who can read between the lines. 

That being said, someone on the quieter side. Doesn’t want to be constantly asked if he’s okay, but wants someone who will notice he’s not and find a way to help him through it. 

Finally, someone who gets flustered when he flirts with them. He takes great pride in his ability to make you blush. If you're the type with cheeks that flush pink, even better.

Makino is actually terrifying and all the ideas and theories that Shanks is gonna be bad are false because if he ever did anything shady she would destroy him. Desperately shoves fingers in ears and says lalalala really loud whenever someone theorizes about Shanks being the big baddie

Smoker actually respects a lot of the worst generation and he wants to toss himself into the sea when he realizes it

Rewatching stuff and noticed how similar Croc and Makino’s styles are. Doubt there’s anything to it but it’s an interesting coincidence considering Makino is Luffy’s first introduced mother figure.

I was reading through your princess Luffy au and I love it btw! But I was wondering, how did the Red-haired mercenary's meet Luffy? Did they try to kill her when she was a girl but liked her sense of adventure and just kidnapped her? Did they take care of her just like canon? Did she meet Makino through them? Or did she sneak out of the castle when she was a kid and that’s how they met, and everyday she snuck out to hangout with them? Did the Red-haired mercenary’s learn she was a princess through Makino?

Regarding Luffy's encounter with Shanks and his crew, Luffy was rescued from a bandit one day when she snuck out of the castle. That's when Luffy took an interest in them and talked her nanny Makino into going with her to the pub they frequented.

it’s kinda funny how people forget the fact that Luffy used to be an angry feral little shit left by his father AND grandfather to grow up alone (pre ASL) on a damn mountain with fucking bandits . The only reasons he’s not as feral is because of Makino, Shanks + Red Hair pirates (father be fathering), Uta, & Ace + Sabo. So whenever people say that Luffy is a sweet little boy who can do no harm is bs, he’s a 19 yr old with an awakened devil fruit, that is slightly over powered, who can AND will beat the shit out of you AND kill bc he was and still is to a degree a feral fucking child.

I want Luffy to be able to crochet

Winters were cold on the mountain and sweaters only lasted asl a few weeks before they tore them while running around, sparring, and hunting

And Makino loves her boys but she only had so much free time to keep fixing them and making new ones when the sweaters were past repair

Luffy in particular wore out sweaters the fastest, and after seeing Makino scramble to make him yet another new sweater after his was torn to shreds by a bear he decided he wanted to give Makino a break and make his own sweaters

So Luffy learned how to crochet that winter, and what started as just sweaters turned to gloves, hats, blankets and so on

Soon Luffy started experimenting on what he could make, like hammocks, stuffed animals, dolls, flowers

He was always out of yarn and the things he made were never the 'right' color, he just used what he had

As a result he had weird colored dolls, ("that's you ace!" "Why is my skin Orange??" "At least you're not blue and purple") pink animals of all sorts, (when he was really into doing animals all he had available was pink yarn) and blankets with no coherent color scheme cause he'd get bored, work on something else, and when he worked on the blanket again he had already used up the other yarn

Luffy didn't take any of his crochet stuff with him when he set sail, not any of his hooks, yarn, or creations, leaving them all in Makino and the villagers care (he offered dadan a doll with purple skin and told her it was her, she insisted it looked nothing like her and that she wouldn't keep it. It sits on a shelf in the house where everyone can see it, she tells any new members who ask all about how someone made her as a doll)

Because Luffy didn't have any of his stuff with him when he sailed, not that it mattered since he would have lost them if he did take it anyways, nobody on the crew knows he can crochet

Nobody knew until one day they were at an island and they were having an art festival, where Luffy used his food money to buy crochet stuff.

Luffy immediately got back into crocheting. He made a sleeping mask for Zoro, a tangerine shaped purse for Nami, a bookmark for Robin, and I can't think of any more things but he just started crocheting again.

The crew is astounded that their captain can actually sit still for more than a couple minutes AND that he's doing it out of his own free will. And maybe he never runs out of yarn again, Luffy never questions how he seems to have a never ending supply of yarn.

Been reading some of @missmungoe fanfics in AO3 with Shanks and Makino. I absolutely love that the few I've read, if there's Mihawk involvement, he automatically just gets along quick with Makino.

(I also adore Buggy's interaction with Makino in that spin off AU with Sabo getting to Makino first before Rayleigh)

One Piece AU: Dadan’s marriage dream: How it started?

A crack fic where Dadan's dream of marriage changed the timeline, as her boys made it a point of honour to find her a partner, or husband, or male wife. It all started with Makino wanting to explain her relationship with Shanks to them. Which directed the boys to ask Dadan about her experience. To make it funnier, this should happen on the day Sabo would be attacked by his father. Because of the discussion, their plan for the day didn't happen as it should have in the original. There was still drama going on, but it was less serious, so Sabo didn't get amnesia. He also stayed longer on Dawn. Luffy and Ace also met Dragon. In some ways this helped and didn't help with their father figure image. Anyway, Luffy decided that if Dadan had a dream that she couldn't fulfil because of them, he should help her. And find that person for her. Sabo disagreed because the idea of an arranged marriage made his head hurt. Ace thinks that if anything, it should be his job. Also, Ace and Sabo are having a small crisis about their relationship - is it twin behaviour or marriage-like?
