Hello fellow millennial! ☕️ 90s music?

I didn't listen to it enough when I was a kid! I started listening to music around 1999 when I was 12 (prime music discovering years) and I, uh... look, I was a dork with conservative parents, I listened to a lot of the bubblegum pop that came out at the turn of the millennium. Thank God for my best friend. He always has been super into music. He got me to download Napster and then later KaZaA, and we listened to loads of pop rock and alternative.

In terms of albums, I was really into Matchbox Twenty, Smash Mouth, and the Goo Goo Dolls. And then there were loads of singles. My friend got me to listen to Weezer, Blink-182, The Offspring, Cake, Beck, Metallica (not big on them any more lol), among others. I did go back and get more into some of those bands when I got older. R.E.M. is now one of my absolute favorite artists, for example.

I really miss the grunge. And the guitars!! We had such good guitar lines back then, man. And it felt gritty and weird and authentic. (Not sure HOW "authentic" it was, but it felt that way.) It was such a vibe and I miss it.

I've finally unlocked TH10: Mountain of Faith's extra stage!!!!! I made this fanart of Nitori as an excuse to brag about it, and I'm so glad of how it turned out 🥹

I might also make fanarts of Kanako and Hina in the future, and I just remembered that I also managed to unlock TH6: Embodiment of Scarlet Devil's extra stage a few months back, so I'm also going to make fanarts of this game soon! 🥳🥰 ( I still can't manage to beat Orin from TH11 nor any extra stage boss at time of recording, lol )

there is so much i have said over the past decade about hotch and emily dancing at the end of 7x24, and yet still so much more i could possibly say.

i frequently come back to how it felt to watch this scene for the first time when the ep first aired - the euphoria, the grief, the claws around my heart.

it was, for me and so many others who were online at the time, the perfect embodiment of what shipping can be for people. the scene in question was, for all intents and purposes, the last time we thought we would ever see the character of emily prentiss again. and so if you really wanted to view it uncharitably, you could have seen that scene as the ultimate dashing of hopes that our ship would ever become canon. but by and large, that's just not how we saw it in real time.

instead, there was this sense of true joy, a perfect culmination, closure, bittersweet and blissful. closure to have gotten them acknowledging each other's tells. smiles, tenderness, attention. it's a date.

and then.

then we got hotch pulling emily to him. we got the juxtaposition of how he looks dancing with beth compared to how he looks dancing with emily - gone is the levity and in its stead is a deep intimacy, understanding, and gentleness that undergirds so many of their interactions throughout the series. (and again, you have to realize, this is before we knew what we know now - that emily would not just return but take up the mantle of unit chief at his request, that she would risk death for him and his son. we couldn't have imagined that then and it was still this clarion moment of yes, this is what we have been seeing all along represented in technicolor on the screen.)

i will always be silly about hotch and emily, but i will also always be so deeply serious about their pairing. i just love them.

something about how every time a targ tries to enact real genuine reform to westeros/the dynasty as a whole everything crumples in on itself. viserys naming rhaenyra heir leading to the dance, ensuring that no woman will ever inherit the throne in her own right out of fear of it happening again. daeron 2 establishing a final peace with dorne, (ending the cycle of attempted war of conquest to tense peace to attempted war of conquest) but the inclusion of dornishmen in court being a catalyst for the blackfyre rebellions, igniting a new cycle of attempted conquest every generation or so. egg genuinely being a ruler for the people with the best intentions and then accidently causing the tragedy at summerhall (not even mentioning the fact that daeron 2 literally built summerhall...), his attempts to end the incest foiled by his own children who romanticize the old targs. bc no matter how much they want to change for the better, they are still targaryens of old valyria. they can't help but look back.

Back in 2022, NumiJulie started work on a short animation and asked me to do the music for it. It would've been about a young woman named Lili who, after being informed that she only had one day left to live, decided to host a party filled with sex, drugs, and loud music before the inevitable.

This project was cancelled due to several factors like scope and budget, but we both felt that the music was too good to leave on our hard drives, so its now available for your listening pleasure!

can we talk about the choice to make luther the one with the music. here is a portrait of seven five siblings. none of them are in each others lives anymore. theyre dragged back together by their fathers funeral and find themselves nearly strangers, and none of them are particularly interested in changing that. but luther. luther wants them to be a team. he resents them for leaving and he resents them for not wanting to stay and solve this mystery. he is The Leader and as The Leader its his job to bring the gang back together and absolutely nobody is the least bit interested in heeding him.

but then. the first time that theres an indication that these people do have potential to be a family again. and its because luther plays a song.

its so beautiful. they could have given the music collection to any of them!! wouldn't it feel so in character for it to have been allison or klaus? or, for that matter, viktor? but they gave it to luther. the hardass who has been annoyed with everyone this whole time, the guy who is taking this all too seriously, THATS the one they give the 80s pop music to.

because he wants them to work together. and the show tells us yes, he he has that power, to help heal his family. but only by being a person with a music collection who does goofy dances and loves model planes. and not by being a superhero
