Back in 2022, NumiJulie started work on a short animation and asked me to do the music for it. It would've been about a young woman named Lili who, after being informed that she only had one day left to live, decided to host a party filled with sex, drugs, and loud music before the inevitable.

This project was cancelled due to several factors like scope and budget, but we both felt that the music was too good to leave on our hard drives, so its now available for your listening pleasure!

In reply to the original submitter : I'd looked and no, the cabbage man didn't have a name when you submitted him. However, I had another look just in case recently... and it looks like he's going to be known as Cai in the children book focused on him that should go out this Summer. According to the wiki, "if he shares the same last name as his son Lau Gan-Lan, That would make his name "Cai Gan-Lan", a play on "gan-lan cai", the name of a vegetable dish."

Disability pride... year?

This year when my contract came up for renewal at work, I went to my boss and asked for something I wanted- a thoroughly reasonable accommodation, so reasonable they'd already offered it to me this last year, and I was just asking to make it official for next year. I asked for all my vacation and personal days to be used as sick days.

The difference is that I don't have to give any warning before I use sick days- vacation and personal days they want a week or more's notice. A sick day can be taken whenever you need it, with as much notice as you can give (even if that's only 10 minutes).

This seems small- asking for what I've already been given. But it's the first time I've ever asked an employer for ANYTHING related to my disability.

Usually I bend over backwards to make myself less-inconvenient, less-bothersome, less-visible. I don't want to remind people that I'm disabled, lest they decide they don't want to deal with me and my disability anymore.

And I got it! My boss said of course, in fact this works great for us, we're happy to have you! The thing that was scary for me was no big deal to her.

So... may this be the year that you get a chance to self-advocate, and may your wishes, whether large or small, also be granted.

we go through this every hurricane season but the way people will find any excuse to point the finger at the victims of natural disasters and say cruel shit like "fuck around and find out" like it's not horrifying having to leave behind your home and all your belongings and potentially your pets with the full knowledge that there might not be anything to come back to after... ignoring that there are people that don't have a car or the money to evacuate, ignoring disabled people who have no way to get out, ignoring people that can't find places for their pets to shelter, ignoring people that have medical equipment that can't be moved or replaced, etc... and even if someone stays behind solely because they want to, they still don't deserve to suffer.

as someone who worked extensively in disaster response previously, it is not easy to "just" evacuate, and the relief that comes afterwards is intentionally difficult to obtain. and already the forces that be are trying to spin this narrative that the victims are at fault, to put the blame on them so that if (probably when) people are forced to resort to looting (because the aid never comes) everyone will nod and agree that they're all bad people and deserved it... rather than acknowledging the fact that there was no attempt to make the evacuation accessible and safe for everyone, no guarantee that aid will be waiting for them when they return to a home that has been swept away... no empathy for the fact that these people's entire lives are potentially destroyed with no safety net to catch them.
