Episode idea: Samwena VS Destiel

While undercover for a case, Sam and Rowena are getting a little too into suburbia.

They’re methodically checklisting every item in the "likable couple" category: community herb garden, a library exchange mailbox, weekly book club meetings… and Sam is pretty sure that with their perfectly trimmed hedges and expertly placed solar fairy lights, they're on their way to a city beautification award. But by the end of the month, everyone in the neighborhood is flocking to Dean and Cas’s fixer-upper instead—with its peeling paint, mismatched lawn chairs, half-dug fire pit, and duct-taped strings of half-working Christmas lights.

And—

And Sam just doesn't get it, okay? Dean and Cas aren't even a believable couple, not to mention they've been nothing but off-putting, foot-in-mouth weirdos since the day they moved in.

Yet, somehow, their impromptu backyard hangouts (cheap beer, store-bought BBQ, and a staticky radio) are a bigger draw than Rowena's elegant garden soirees (decent wine, catered hors d'oeuvres, and an outdoor stereo system).

Jack—undercover as the neighborhood pool-slash-garden boy—watches it all unfold. It's starting to seem like Sam and Rowena have forgotten there's an actual case to solve...

Tagged by @arendaes on this fairy doll maker. I've skipped the last few of these doll makers because I just do not tend to have the kind of really high femme character in play that works on them without feeling really uncanny to me, but I figured I'd give this one an attempt and see how well I could recreate my BG1/2 character's old 2018 design (doodled on scrap paper at work here with a sad attempt at shitty wizard dart).

Mission back to university.

When I first went to university I was hoping to find my tribe. Having felt like a fish out of water for many years I was convinced that when I went away I would find new friends, maybe find a girlfriend and make lifelong connections. Of course, these things do not come easily, if at all to a person with Aspergers (which was then undisgnosed. In fact, I had never heard the word before and knew next to nothing about autism.). I was more alone than ever and left after two years with feelings of being excluded, rejected and having wasted two years.

My first year was spent in the house of a local landlady and her daughter. She realised quite quickly that I was not an easy or particularly pleasant person to have around and made her displeasure clear. I also had a weekend job where I now know I was taken advantage of. I was not valued and my confidence was really low. Looking back it was obvious my colleagues where laughing at me behind my back. I was kept on because I could do the dirty jobs and they did not have to pay me much. This was before minimum wage and when I opened my first pay packet I had been given two pounds an hour!

I came to study in this small town because I wanted to do a HND in Social Care. At the time I genuinely believed I was incapable of getting a “proper” degree. The first place I looked at was a town around forty minutes from my home village. When I went to visit I did not like the place at all and chose to study in another shitty small town, this one one hundred and fifty miles away. Peers where going to bigger cities and more prestigious institutions. But I convinced myself that I was happy studying there. It was only later that I realised that the life lessons I learned where harsh and could have been learned in much nicer surroundings.

Looking back I felt limited and trapped. Every student is skint and I felt this quite acutely. My parents paid my rent and gave me one hundred pounds a month. I was luckier than most and did not get a student loan. However, the overdraft I accumulated was a financial reality for years to come.

For years I wanted to go back to this shitty town on my own steam. To drive there and back in one day. To revisit the ghosts and bad memories with the freedom I did not have when I was there the first time.

When I typed the two destinations into route finder on the AA website I realised I could be there in two and a half hours. The introverted part of me loves long car journeys alone. I was behind on my podcasts and the journey to and from my old university town would give me more than enough time to catch up. I opened my diary and chose a day where I was off work. I wrote “leave free” under the date. I was going on an road trip. On my own. Hopefully to lay ghosts and bad memories to rest. If not I would at least enjoy the trip.
