hi this is still going around and i kinda wanna clarify something for all the tags that are saying "omg character A would say this to character B because theyre a dummy <3"

first of all im all for blorbo tagging, especially with greek characters and headcanons! love that shit! go nuts! buuuut just in case anyone actually intends to use this in writing: SAYING "MORO MOU" IS NOT THE SAME AS ACTUALLY CALLING YOUR PARTNER A MORON!

when you use it in that context it really does just mean "babe/baby," no one who uses it would actively be thinking about how the old etymology would mean it technically means moron. that's more of just a funny fact. like, when we call our partners baby in english, we're not thinking about how it can also mean someone who's overly sensitive.

no one in modern greek really says moro to mean dumb anymore. its sort of clunky and weird to say. youre more likely to say "hazo" (stupid) or ilithio (idiot). which are also mean, like, dont call your partner that!

however, if you are writing a greek speaking character and want an alternative, i simply must introduce you to "re" (pronounced like "reh" not "ree") ill explain under the cut

see, the word "moro" becomes "more" (moreh) when directed at someone. this eventually became shorted to "re" which is a word that doesnt quite have an english equivalent.

its usually used as a prefix, you put it before someones name when referring to them (it only works in second person). for example, "re kosta, where are you going?" < this implies that the question is somehwat rhetorical, you think kosta is an idiot who doesnt know where he's fucking going. or "re stephano, cut that out!" < stephano is an annoying dumbass, "re" is being used to emphasize this fact.

so typically adding the "re" prefix to someones name is an insult, a shorthand way to make your statement more insulting, and just sort of refer to people disrespectfully in general. however in a friendly context, it can also show closeness- its casual and lighthearted. it doesnt imply stupidity so much as silliness, and can even be seen as positive. this can just sort of depend on tone. an example of the latter would be "re kristina, how have you been?" < this implies a casual atmosphere and general excitement to see kristina, "re" reinforces closeness with kristina.

the difference is so slight but it's definitely there in the way its used. the tone changes the meaning. saying "re niko!" in an annoyed tone implies insult, while saying it in a positive tone implies friendliness. of course you do have to be careful with this- even in a friendly way, this level of Casual isn't something youd have with your boss or teacher. (people youre meant to talk to with the Respectful way of speaking, something english doesnt really have either)

so yeah if you want a Real authentic greek way to casually call your loved ones idiots, in an affectionate way, this would be how to do it! you can even drop the name all together and just call someone "re"- the name is implied. even just saying it in its own can be used to be like "dude." or "dude???" and It may sometimes be lengthened to "vre" for emphasis

anyway if you made it this far you must actually care about this kind of stuff, so let me give you some other terms of endearment you could use that are actually Nice: "agapi mou" (my love), "matia mou" or "matakia mou" (literally "my eyes" but more along the lines of "light of my eyes." the -aki suffix is a diminutive), and "kardia mou" or "kardoula mou" (my heart. -oula is another diminutive). these can be used for either romantic partners or children!

also the insult a greek character should use the most often is malaka. maliciously and negatively. its like how irish people say cunt or brittish people say wanker (in fact thats the literal translation). that word means a lot to us. and yes of course, you can totally say "re malaka!!!" and this could mean anything from "you stupid son of a bitch i'm going to murder you" to "my awesome close good friend, its so good to see you!"

Omg thank you so much, and yes, please do take your time! I’ve been writing this OC for eight years so these questions are easy for me to answer, but please take your time!

Alright so today I’m gonna focus on one of the main characters in the novel that I am trying to publish, her name is Florencia Coronado Quijano and in the first novel I’m writing rn she is a seventeen-year-old first gen Mexican-American immigrant, she’s also demi-bisexual and a demigirl. Just for reference, here are some piccrews I made of her (the first one is by far the most accurate):

1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)? 

Her appearance for sure. I always knew I wanted a strong main female character that defied the ‘dumb curvy blonde girl’ stereotype, and although Florencia isn’t 100% a blonde (she has natural blonde streaks on her dark brown wavy/curly hair) she is still heavily stereotyped as a Latina so I wanted to mess with that ‘angry loud Latina’ cliche. Although originally I wrote her as a white girl, (13 year old Adrián was white-washed and so were his OCs), later I realized that she is a Latina at heart and since I’m Mexican, so is she so she’s an outlet for me to express my culture as a Mexican American.

3. How did you choose their name?

Whitewashed Florencia’s name was Florence, so I just added a bit of ✨Hispanic spice✨ to it. The name in itself was just totally random, but looking back at it I think Florencia really suits her as a name, especially how she uses Flor as a nickname.

5. Is there any significance behind their hair color? 

So glad you asked, yes! So she is actually mixed, her mother was an indigenous Mexican woman, but her father is Lugh, Irish god of arts and crafts and a solar warrior god. She gets much of her prowess as a warrior from her half-blood status, which technically makes her a demigod. She takes after her mother in terms of physical appearance (brown skin, dark hair save her blonde streaks that she gets from Lugh, dark eyes), but the blonde in her hair is reminiscent of Lugh’s golden hair since he is a sun god.

7. Is there any significance behind their height? 

Uh, she’s 5’1 and I’m 5’2 but uh... short queen representation for all my fellow smol Latinx people out there???? Other than that, I’m afraid not.

9. Are they based off of you, in some way? 

Back when I wrote her no, she was not intended to be like me. But looking back at it she definitely is an idealized version of who I wanted to be as a Latinx femme. She is feminine and even androgynous sometimes but not afraid to let that define her and doesn’t let her weight (she’s plus-size and considered fat by most thin people) define her either. She can and will kick your ass in battle, has an incredible Mexicanized sense of humor, and is loyal to a fault and would happily die for any of her friends. She was everything I wanted to be back then, and even now that I know I’m a guy I still want to have her bravery, her strength, her valor, her loyalty, and her fearlessness. I think she is the positive Latina rep that I always internally craved when I thought I was a Latina (spoiler alert: I never was because I was never female, never a woman, even if I presented femme.)

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation? 

Yes and no. When 13 year old Adrián wrote her she was a cishet white woman, but looking back at it she has always been inherently queer, especially with her relationship with Jin (another female OC who is a lesbian) and how she has a massive crush on her in most of the first draft of my book.

13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all? 

The furthest I go is in my short story Under the Same Stars that I turned in for my creative writing workshop class, and she is 13 in that story but there are flashbacks that go back to her earlier childhood.

15. What is something about your OC that can make you laugh? 

She uses Mexican slang constantly so if you’re Mexican the book is guaranteed to at the very least make you smile, and the very most make you crack up. She’s also really humorous in English too.

16. What is something about your OC that can make you cry?

Also I'm sure there is gonna be a heavy long rant in there about THE Wanda Maximoff / SCARLET WITCH............. because she's the best and I'm in love with her.... you could say.... I've got my vision on her if you know what I mean.... okay enjoy (if you wish)

I know... so much wasted potential!!! like I ALWAYS LOVE the characters they play but maybe only because of my interest in superhero stuff... ESPECIALLY Marvel (not really DC that much but I do love Batman.... and a certain Batman villain (also the (1) Wonder Woman was good...)) Anyway.... erm.... wasted potential!! Sooooo sooooo much it's painful, I think the way they killed off Tony was good but I think Natasha deserved... a much-deserved mourning and a scene dedicated to that... she sacrificed her literal life in the hopes that this would guarantee... literal whole world and everything in it...

Yet she died knowing that even if she dies they still might not yet win and that's the gamble she's going to have to take because HAWKEYE can't do it since he has a "wife and kids" sort of scenario. Anyway...

They gave her some crappy screen and the only real shown display of weakness and sadness that was shown from them was Bruce Banner/Hulk's crush of a can and that was in despite of Clint dropping to his knees in shock as the realization that THE NATASHA ROMANOFF wasn't there. And they gave her some shitty little thing where they go "sHe DiDn'T HavE A. fAmiLy" ((BULLSHIT)).

Anyway

I thought Eternals was good... like it doesn't deserve all the hate?? I thought it was good and enjoyable and seemed interesting enough (also bonus little Harry Styles in there who I looooooooovvvveeee with every fibre of my being) And also I thought the acting was pretty good and I really like Gemma Chan she's wonderful and charming and a good main character girlboss moment!!! Anyway lol....

And I sorta loved the thing she had going on with Ikarus (idk how they spelled it in the movie I just remember laughing at his name and how it's spelled) Like he was kinda weird and creepy yet really sexy (I think he looks like an English version of Sebastian Stan). And she's this lovely and open... like someone you would run to when you cry or someone helps you out sometimes. She was sweet like a cherry and he was the wolf to eat her. I know that sounds dumb but they're both attractive people. And ALSO OMG BARRY KEOGHAN IS IN THAT MOVIE AND I LOVE HIM.... He's Irish and he's done stuff with Cillian too (+Harry Styles). Anyway the movie was good... I won't give away all the spoilers lol but the romance and I thought the monsters and stuff was cool (FUCKING BILL SKARSGARD WAS IN IT BUT HE PLAYED A MONSTER SO YOU DIDN'T EVEN ACTUALLY SEE HIM BECAUSE HE'S JUST CGI ughhhh).

Onto the next sorta films after Endgame, it all became sorta mush... like the cereal had turned soggy from the milk that is Creativity. And maybe the characters are bland... I've never looked at them that way because you can project onto them and imagine what they would do and say in certain scenarios and stuff like that. Black Widow the movie.... was actually pretty good, it introduced Florence Pugh into the MCU (Ha... it rhymes...) as Yelena <3 I love her and she's putting on some sort of Russian accent.

I'm so sorry to whoever actually reads this you poor soul...

Anyway, I love the characters... like all the new stuff... like I love the characters, what can I say? But the actual movie itself with all the poor CGI and cheaply written jokes and sort of lazy action sequences (and blah blah blah)... it all becomes one huge JOKE within itself. It's bad. But I'm talking about projects like Thor: Love and Thunder which I saw four times in cinema just out of disbelief at how bad it is that it was nearly good. I tried to convince myself I liked it but eventually all the stupidity got in my head.

Let's just talk about what I'm thinking about and that is:

Wandavision, Loki, and Falcon and The Winter Soldier...

Those were fucking amazing. And maybe I am biased because I have a deep fondness for them because I was only like fourteen or something when it came out?? They were just so.... perfect and they still are to me because I love them so much.

Wandavision is by far my favorite. I just love everything about it. It's quirky and I fucking love Elizabeth Olsen because I think she's just beautiful and amazing and so talented. Wanda Maximoff is a deeply emotional character for me and I sort of feel like I am her but also in the way that I just want to be with her and around her and feel the power of her love. And I love Vision... he's so fucking great and I love them so much it hurts. This is gonna be one long-ass blog... I am so sorry no one is reading all this lol.

I loved the way Wandavision used different sitcoms for each episode, I just thought that was brilliant. I remember showing it to my dad (who really hates the MCU but has enjoyed some but he hates the CGI) and he really loved it up until the last episode or two. He hated all the bits where she was up in the sky being the Scarlet Witch. But he still said he liked it. Anyway... Wandavision is one of my favorite things of all time (even outside of just my love of Marvel and all that). Also, my actual name is Scarlet so the name Scarlet Witch is really fucking cool. (Flower is just a nickname). I love her, her powers are so cool and incredible... the fact she can even do that is amazing. Anyway... I LOVE THE SCARLET WITCH I JUST LOVE HER. (I'm not gonna discuss Multiverse of Madness in this post...)

There was Falcon and The Winter Soldier next.

The middle child of Wandavision and Loki that didn't quite... move the people as much I guess.

Falcon and The Winter Soldier was soooooo good. I loved it. I couldn't name any major things I would want to change but there were little things I guess lol. I loved it though. And I love Bucky and I love the way it showed his grief and the way he deals with it all. And I really liked the way they dealt with Police Brutality and racism and stuff. Sam Wilson really changed as a character to me then, I had always liked him but this made me really like him as a character and understand him more. He was then no longer "Falcon" in the title but CAPTAIN AMERICA. No, it wasn't some big tall blonde blue-eyed soldier from the 40s anymore. It was Sam Wilson, a black man whom the people he had to deal with... weren't quite ready for. But that doesn't deny him of the hefty title CAPTAIN AMERICA. Meanwhile, this John Walker fella is saying he's Captain America and he's some Kurt Russell lookalike (the actor is literally Kurt Russell's kid) and he's got the blonde hair and freaky blue eyes and he's saying he's Captain America because THE GOVERNMENT SAYS SO. (Because that's totally what the actual Steve Rogers or Sam Wilson would feel....) (Sarcasm). I loved how we saw a more flirt side of Bucky... yes there were all the true and dark sides of him but we saw him open up a bit more, he smiled and talked to the ladies a bit and was a bit cute and snarky instead of usually mellow. I just love the characters.

Loki was also really good... I just love it. I love Loki. I love that Tom Hiddleston is so passionate about playing Loki... like he truly tries to perfect it. He's like canonically bisexual basically?? Which is cool!! But I hated what they did with Sylvie... I just found it unnecessary. I thought they could've had like a cool person moment and been like fun siblings sort of thing SINCE THEY'RE LITERALLY THE SAME FUCKING PERSON JUST FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSE OR WHATEVER. UGHHH But then they made them have weird tension and then made them kiss and Loki cries and all that. Whatever. Omg... I still haven't watched Season Two yet which I need to do immediately!!

There's a lot I haven't gotten the chance to watch/haven't even bothered to watch at all like She-Hulk, MoonKnight, Ms. Marvel... Secret Invasion... or even the new Captain Marvel that has just come out. I have a bit of Marvel Fatigue, to be honest, I just think they need to slow down a bit. They need to let the suspense hold a little longer... I think they've all just become too money-hungry to care what they're putting out.

I was like “whats that”. she replied “the number of my locker”. I then occurred to me i had not taken down my actual locker number, just the combination. I almost cried because i’m so stupid sometimes and this is just ideal for the first day of school to be this dumb oof. HIIII LOVE!!!! Ufffff, I didn’t realized Mother’s Day meant May was starting,jajajaja. May is our August. We have A LOT of places to go to make candy bars, do you know what it is? Well, we put it on communions, weddings… and we have a couple every weekend. So we make the things we put on the bar during the week. Oh, there are so many concert and festivals these days. I guess I never was a kid to ask my parents for a lot of things, and I never really had someone who I liked enough to ask to go concerts,so 🤷🏻‍♀️. But I love concerts. The ambient… well, I already told you,jajaja. It feels like you’re around your people, or at least to me, bc I don’t know anyone in real life who likes the same music as I. And I loved it the time in the line,jajja. It was like we were camping. I don’t know, jajaja, it felt right. Ed has that reputation? I dididnt know about it. I’ve see a couple of videos, and I found it so difficult what he does,jajja, with the guitar and the pedal he uses to record his voice and all that.

Yeah, I don’t know his logic, but I guess he doesn’t use logic that much when he says things like that. And yeah, I mean, if you’ve never been hated for something like that, it can be hard to imagine. But also, I hate people who doesn’t care about their surroundings, y'know. I might never felt hated because my color skin (I’m white), but I know dark-skinned people suffer for it. So I’ll attend at whatever they say. And if I can make something to alleviate their pain or help them, I try to do it, y'know. But I can’t with people who only knows their own reality and doesn’t care to learn about the rest. Oh no. She wasnt kind. It was meant to show me that she thinks i am to annoying and political, but i dont mind. It is what it is. I feel like I have to say hi again, lol. I started writing yesterday (Tuesday) in the morning and now is Wednesday night 😒. May is so busy at the shop. And to add to that, today at 8am my cousin’s mom called me because he had woke up at 5am. He has a sleeping disorder, and sometimes he wakes up at 4-5am and he doesn’t go back to sleep. And I’m there for those days (bc the parents has to go to work, obviously). Anyway, I have to answer you now bc tomorrow will be busy too. I have to go to the shop to help my sister, bc we have TOO much to do.

I don’t like when people thinks like that, but when is a woman… I can’t. OMG YOU SPEAK IRISH AHHH!!!! I've been trying to learn Irish for a while now and I'm so fascinated with it (Irish-American btw) How did you learn Irish? Do you have any tips on how I can improve or practice more? I don't have anyone to actually speak Irish with so my speaking skills aren't very good. I'm planning a summer trip to Ireland this year and I want to be able to use my Irish skills with people if possible. it makes me so happy to see other Irish speakers out there! yay!

Well in Ireland we have to learn it in school haha so that’s why I can speak it! And we even have schools that only teach through Irish but I didn’t go there. And as for tips, everyone learns differently! If you can recite things easily then I would suggest writing out sentences or phrases to learn off. Or maybe reading some Irish poems/plays/books. And if you learn through listening then I suggest giving Irish radio a go or watching TG4 (a tv channel that’s online too but down atm so I can’t link it, sorry!) or TG Lurgan on YouTube (this song of theirs went viral a while back). Even just talking to yourself is an option (even if you feel dumb haha)!

However, something you should know is that Irish isn’t commonly spoken here! We speak English for the most part. There are Irish speaking areas (Gaeltachts) which you could go to in order to improve. Also, there are differences in the language per province. So what I’m trying to say is that Irish isn’t spoken by most people on a casual basis and those that do speak it, might not understand each another from one end of the country to the other.

But don’t give up on Irish! It’s a dying language and a bit difficult to learn :”( So studying it can be a pain but there’s so much history to it. It’s one of the oldest languages in the world and there’s so much beautiful Irish poetry and plays that would not exist without it. It’s a part of our culture, something that makes us Irish, and I’m glad to see someone interested in it!
