Introducing // Det. James Medina & Det. Grace Yeung // "Silenced" [Working Title]
"I want you to give him a chance. A real chance, Grace", the older man said, the rare familiarity of adressing her with her first name clearly meant to manipulate.
As was the little conspiratory wink when he added:
"And if you could get him to stop dressing like a drug mule, that'd be great."
Here they are!!! God, they're still so hot. Obsessed. 🫠

When you decide to watch a movie to catch up on Sam Reid's filmography, and instead you're hit in the face with absolutely stunning performances by Olivia Cooke, Bill Nighy and Douglas Booth.
Like, wow. The Limehouse Golem is fantastic. Olivia Cooke is impressive (I had started to gather that from the few episodes of House of the Dragon I had seen), Bill Nighy is a master act (I will forever have his scenes in Vincent and the Doctor engraved in my mind) and Douglas Booth can make his performance shine in even the dumbest of movies (I'm a Douglas Booth fan, sue me - the 2013 Romeo and Juliet is only good because of him and Hailie Stenfield, otherwise it's, oof, not good, and I know Tumblr unironically loves Jupiter Ascending but we have to agree that his perf in it is glorious; also, ha, amazing, he plays Dan Leno the same year as he plays Bingley in P&P&Zombies, talk about range - anyway, where was I).
Sam Reid, María Valverde and Daniel Mays were just cherries on top of an already thrilling cake. Saw the plot twist coming, but was despite it immensely thrilled.
Also this movie is so incredibly queer. None of these actors can play straight or cis to save their lives. Not that I think the script was in any way straight nor cis to begin with.

Without any warning we got a call that Billy died of a heart attack, he wasn't even an elder yet!
RIP Billy Medina, he has been president for he last years. He never married because he left his first fiance at the altar and unfortunately died before being able to marry his second fiance. He is survived by his girlfriend Helen Delgado, his son Cesar and his two daughters Sarah and Olivia (with Helen) and his grandson David.
Billy, you were not only one of the most good looking sims I ever made, it was also very fun playing out your story!

Name: Wren Hughes
Age & Birthday: 37 years old, January 27
Gender/Pronouns: cis woman she/her
Birthplace: Los Angeles, California
Time in Hollow Cove: tbd
Species: Water Witch - Rhodes Group / Medina Pack
Role in Hollow Cove: Comms, Depot
Positive personality traits: Responsible, Energetic, Efficient
Negative personality traits: Stubborn, Mischievous, Self-Centered
ABOUT
Wren strongly believes that if she wants a job doing, she does it herself. Forced to grow up from an early age, a court order placed her under the care of her grandparents due to her parents' unwillingness to face responsibility. As a result, Wren has been keenly aware of what needs to be done and isn't at all frightened to make sure it gets done. When her younger sister was born, this trait heightened and at just eighteen years old, she removed Olivia from the social care system in order to watch over her herself.
But growing up quickly means Wren often clings to a sense of mischievousness when and wherever she can get it. From a quick retort or even a harmless prank, there are moments where she desperately revisits a childhood she never got to have. At just eighteen and then the only watchful eye over her younger sister, Wren fell in with the Medina pack and gang in order to put food on the table. She was aware of the risks, but also aware how to navigate them and it seemed her mischievousness worked well with the cunning nature of running a few cons. By the time Olivia was old enough to work with the Medina gang, Wren didn't stop it. As always, aware of the risks and certain she could navigate them.
Life was never easy for her and Olivia, but Wren always considers the fact that nobody is. She doesn't pity herself often, even if she is in tune with her emotions and is never afraid to feel what needs to be felt. It's more common to see her crying over something that has nothing to do with her than her own situations, giving the conflicting vision of someone who is nowhere near as strong as she really is. Although, she knows how to use tears to her advantage too, and it's definitely helped her steal a wallet or two.
When the war began and L.A was attacked, Wren was determined to get out alive with her sister but the Hughes witches were separated during the chaos. For Wren, she found herself with Beckett and other survivors and has remained with them since. She searches tirelessly for any sign of her sister, often caring more about any clues that lead her to her sister. But Wren has never cared if she's selfish, as it's precisely what got her this far in life to begin with.

Name: Olivia 'Liv' 'Olive' Hughes
Age & Birthday: 30 years old, March 1st
Gender/Pronouns: cis woman she/her
Birthplace: Los Angeles, California
Time in Hollow Cove: Nov 2021
Species: Water Witch - Medina Pack
Role: Kitchens, Seeker
Positive personality traits: Helpful, Courageous, Head-Strong, Independent
Negative personality traits: Stubborn, Reluctant, Distrustful, Eccentric
ABOUT
The Hughes sisters were both born into a chaotic situation, despite being seven years apart. But, no one will ever catch either of them playing a small violin or drudging up painful memories for any sympathy. "Getting on with it" is a motto both Olivia and Wren have believed in since day one. Their parents were already deemed as unfit when Wren was a few years old, a court order sending her to their grandparents to be raised. Despite a relationship surrounded by drugs and betrayal, their parents had another daughter, seven years later. But with the court order still in place, the sisters lived mostly parallel to one another with inconsistent visitations.
Their parent's destructive tendancies continued and Olivia was ten years old when another court order placed her into care, their grandparents' situation and age making them unable two raise both girls. It caused a further rift between Olivia and Wren, but it also brought them that much closer. Wren became determined to gain independence and at eighteen, relinquished Olivia from the social care system under her guardianship. -
Life began to resemble normalcy then, but only just. Between grief of their grandparents passing, to the grief of seeing their parents fade away into ghosts of people, the sisters only had one another. And eventually, in order to put food into the table Wren began working with the Medina pack and gang. By the time Olivia was eighteen, Wren was already welcomed into the fold of the pack and coven and it seemed only natural for Olivia to follow. Her tasks were menial at first, mainly front of house and sometimes helping her sister with a con or two. But, for as dangerous as their life became, it was the closest to family they ever had since their grandparents died. And it was the first time the sisters really began to hone in on their skills of magic.
When the war began in 2020 and L.A was bombed, the Hughes sisters were separated and Liv found herself with several survivors from the gang, led by Cruz. It's the first time in her life she's ever remembered being without her sister, and Olivia will do whatever is needed to find her again. She's remained with the Medina's through thick and thin, trusting Cruz's guidance as a temporary Alpha until Santiago is found again.
But guilt eats at Olivia, handing over intel about the Colorado safetowns was something she never thought was right and now, in Hollow Cove, she's faced with many wolves who suffered because of the choice. Being helpful and wearing a smile is usually natural for Olivia, but not now she constantly has to face the consequences of her actions.

Wednesday, February 21, 2024PRESENTED BYA MESSAGE FROM GULFSHORE PLAYHOUSE:
The Gulfshore Playhouse Inaugural Season at the new Baker Theatre and Education Center! Two dazzling theatres. Seven fabulous productions. Anything Goes, Every Brilliant Thing, Dial “M” For Murder, The Lehman Trilogy, Noises Off, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, and Sweet Charity. Learn more.Good morning, Robert!
Monday night the Briefing was at opening night of The Life and Slimes of Marc Summers at New World Stages. Part interactive game show, part memoir, the show stars Marc Summers and is written by Alex Brightman with music by Drew Gasparini. At curtain call, Marc gave a heartfelt speech thanking everyone who made the show possible and pointed out people in the audience who changed his life and career path (many of them mentioned in the show). Marc's genuine kindness was exemplified by the fact that all of those people from his past showed up to support him. Also in attendance were Mike O'Malley, Brad Oscar, Alex Timbers, Lena Hall, Robin Russo (Marc's Double Dare co-host) and Melissa d'Arabian (Food Network Star winner). Following the performance was a party at Bryant Park Grill. GOT A TIP?
SETTING THE STAGE TODAY
First there was harmony.
"The full story of the lost singing group that inspired Broadway’s ‘Harmony’" by Broadway News' Ruthie Fierberg - "When Bruce Sussman first started writing the musical that would become “Harmony,” in the 1990s, there was only one historical resource about the Comedian Harmonists: the 1976 Eberhardt Fechner documentary about the German singing group, which had sparked Sussman’s interest in the group in the first place. Given that the doc was the only available reference, it is remarkable how much Sussman got right in the final musical. But, as with any stage adaptation, Sussman had to condense his material, and he also dramatized moments.
The Comedian Harmonists did not start off with the exact six members that eventually rose to fame — the six that were depicted as the original and final sextet in “Harmony.” In reality, it took more than a year (and the incorporation and ousting of multiple early members) to get to the perfect combination of six musicians: buffo Harry Frommerman, bass Robert Biberti, first tenor Ari Leschnikoff, second tenor Erich Collin, baritone Josef Roman Cycowski and pianist Erwin Bootz."

"What Now? With Trevor Noah" Podcast Second Episode With Kerry Washington
What Now? with Trevor Noah dropped its second episode, featuring a conversation with actress/producer/author Kerry Washington.
Washington is well-known for her role as crisis management expert Olivia Pope in the TV show Scandal, which ran from 2012 to 2018.
In this second episode, Trevor Noah is joined by actress/producer/author Kerry Washington. The good friends unpack the end of the Hollywood strikes, the shocking family secret Washington shares in her newly published memoir, the responsibility of being first on the call sheet, why James Corden is concerned for Kerry, and the one feature Trevor inherited from his family. Noah also catches up with friend Christiana Mbakwe Medina about their different life choices and the reason she wants Trevor to marry and have kids.
Some highlights in the video episode include:
Trevor Noah: (11:27)
“…I had to explain to him that he is conflating famous, very successful actors with all actors. Many who are working people who just earn enough to raise a family. And, you know, it's the same in many industries. Like in sports. We think of everyone as LeBron James that we don't know how many NBA, NFL's different league players just earn enough money to make a living. There are stars in every industry. There are some doctors who make millions and millions and millions of dollars, and there are some doctors who make enough to earn a decent living. And the conversation I had with him was really dynamic and interesting because then we just got into a conversation around strikes and why we feel like there are so many strikes happening right now and how interesting it is to see the movement of labor people saying, Hey, we know that there is value in our work. These companies for a long time have made a lot of money from that work. And as the world evolves, we're going to keep on having to negotiate and fight back for the value of our work. And I wondered, like, what are your thoughts on the movement as a whole? Because it hasn't been just actors. It hasn't just been writers. I mean, you look at the autoworkers in Detroit. And the strikes that they've been having, you know, to fight for their future with electric cars, etc.. Like, what do you think it says about the world and where we're heading?”
Kerry Washington: (12:47)
o “You know, I think about that phrase, that democracy is one that we have to keep working for democracy with every generation. We can't ever take it for granted. And I think the same is true for the rights of workers built into capitalism, is this idea of the haves and the have nots and a culture of greed. And so we have to continue to fight to make sure that the success of few does not outweigh the rights of all.”
Trevor Noah: (14:38)
“…And I remember one day getting so angry because they ate like my mom bought a hamburger and we could never really buy hamburgers and houses. And I was saving it. I ate the fries. And then I went off to, like, just to, like, think about my life and how good it was. And I left the burger on the table. I used to. I really suffer from that. I have like this deferred gratification for many things that I enjoy in life. And I came back and carried. I'll never forget the sight. The plate was on the floor and there were crumbs and the dog was sitting there just like almost smiling at me. And I was so angry and sad and I felt betrayed. And my mom said to me something that stuck with me forever. She said, Why are you angry? And I said, Because the dog. And she said, But why did you leave it then? I said, I didn't think the dog. And she said, Trevor, you cannot be angry with a dog for being a dog.”
o “And I was like, Huh. And I think that with capitalism, I go, Capitalism is this really fun and interesting dog, which does great things for many people. And, you know, it makes fancy things, but don't ever take for granted the fact that part of it is it will take from everyone what it can take. Yes, unless you.”
Kerry Washington: (00:18:56)
"But there was this arm's length thing that I had with my mother emotionally, with my dad. It was different. It wasn't an arm's length, but it was a little bit of a disconnect. Yeah. Not knowing why, I always thought it was my fault. I thought there was something I was doing wrong. I thought maybe I wasn't good enough or whatever. As kids we try to fill in the gaps, I just thought maybe I have to be better or smarter or prettier, stronger and more successful or whatever it was. But when they gave me this information, it was like my big aha moment of like, this is the thing. Yeah, this was the thing I could never get across. Right. So it allowed me to connect more deeply to myself and my truth, but also it just allowed me to connect to them because there was no longer a secret between us.”
Kerry Washington: (28:50)
“I feel. Less afraid of what people think of me because I don't have as much to hide. So to be in the world and to feel more secure in who I am and how I am, and to feel like I'm not carrying my parent's shame any longer. Mm hmm. Is so freeing. I feel so liberated and secure and excited. Just, like, really excited about what this person can now build and do and create.”
Kerry Washington: (29:49)
“It's so funny because one woman came up to me at an event that Nnamdi was at and said, like, ""I just I want you to know that we share the same story"" and I said thank you so much and she walked away and then I looked at Nnamdi and I said, ""which story?"" Was she born from a donor? Was she, has she survived sexual abuse? Has she, you know, like, does she have a difficult abortion story? Like, which of the stories that I've shared is the one that… and it almost didn't matter, I realized, when we talked about it. All we both needed to know is that we're not alone. Yes. That we're doing this human experience and that we're not alone."
Kerry Washington: (43:01)
“So I was talking to. James Corden, who said that he was worried for me. James was like, I need to talk to you. I love you. I'm very concerned about you seeking your donor. Wow. Because you have this beautiful life and you know, I know your parents. I know your kids. I know you're like, I understand how beautiful your life is, and I don't want you to give this person so much power that if they aren't who you want them to be, that you suddenly think your life is a failure or that you are unlovable or unworthy in some way. And he told me this beautiful story about some friends of his who used a donor. You know, nowadays, where it's in the world, of course, and sit it, you know, there went to a sperm bank. And the rules at this sperm bank are that you can't, you know, the identity is not disclosed, but you can write a note to the future child. So this donor wrote a note to this child saying and it gives me chills every time I think about it, saying, dear kid, I want you to know that I am not your father. That who I am is just help that there are two people who are your parents. They loved you so much. They wanted to meet you so badly, and all they needed was a little bit of help. So they asked me to give them that help.”
Kerry Washington: (49:06)
“You know, I'm really lucky that I didn't get like everybody famous until much later in my career, because I think if it had happened earlier, I don't know that I would have been able to understand the importance of holding onto my community and audience in the same way. But I had been on this rollercoaster for so long. I mean, by the time the show came around, I'd already been in the business for over a decade, so I had watched Jamie Fox go from being Black famous to famous. I'd watched Forest Whitaker go from being Black, famous to famous. I'd watched Chris Rock go from being Black famous to famous, and I'd also watched how there were times where they were less famous, Famous and Black people still love you. If you love Black people, Yeah. Like if you stay with us, we stay with you. And so by the time the show came along, I was like, no mad. I could hear Chris Rock in my head sometimes. Like, no matter what you do, you don't forget your Black audience because we are right or die like Black people. If you'll if you love us, we will not stop. We don't care if your show gets canceled. We don't care if they gave you third billing. We don't care if your movie bombed. They will still come see you.”
Trevor Noah: (59:30)
“…And the question is, what now? You know, where do you want to go with your family now? Because it really is a whole new world that you're starting off with them. You can you know, you've seen yourself, your dad, your mom, everybody, your kids, your husband. So I'd love to know on that front, what now and then? I mean, you know, the business is back. What now for Kerry Washington? What are you excited about?”
Kerry Washington: (1:00:06)
“So. The what now of my family, is I think we're getting really close to identifying the donor. And so that feels really exciting. It feels like a new story opening up and unfolding. So I'm excited about that. But I'm also really. I feel so lucky that my parents gave me this information while they were still alive to get this information while they're still here. Makes me want to absorb every second that I can with them. Like to really? To really live fully with them, you know, to, like, be all of who I am.”
