For no other reason except I felt like it, I'm gonna rank the bloodborne summons entirely based on how many times they have failed me; starting with the ones who have failed me the most and ending with the ones who have failed me the least.
Note: this is not all of them, these are just the ones that I have summoned/remember summoning.
Yamamura
Bro, brother, my guy, how the fuck do you always die? I've summoned him for the living failures, they bonk him to death, summoned him exactly once for the one reborn and instantly perished. the only boss he hasn't died to is paarl, and that's cos paarl's usually dead by the time I've gotten to the dlc.
Younger Madaras Twin
Almost every time I summon this guy, he dies. He sometimes survives the Shadows of Yharnam, gets (understandably) pancaked by Rom and her kids, and for Ludwig... yeah.
Olek
Admittedly, I haven't summoned him much, but it usually ends with him being near death or fucking dead by the end of a bossfight. Better than the previous two but not by a lot. Things only get better from here.
Henriett
She does quite well against Amelia, limb breaks and staggers galore, and usually makes it to phase 2 Ludwig before she croaks. It's an improvement but damn is she squishy, but that's okay because I forgive her.
Alfred
My man, we gotta talk. You can't keep running after the crows while we're on our way to kill the cleric beast, same shit goes for the beasts near bsb's arena. Is usually on very low health by the end of a fight, has died a few times to the poison, but generally doesn't fail me too often.
Valtr
Takes hits like a champ and can deal quite a bit of damage. Unfortunately, he can be as dumb as a brick and occasionally dips his toes in the lava that Laurence spews out. Deals with Ludwig just fine tho, which is nice, but whenever I go fight Laurence I'm better off doing it without summoning him.
Henryk
He's like the previous guys but better, has only really died to Rom but I can understand that cos it's Rom. I can take my eyes off of him without having to worry about him being mobbed or killed mid-fight but it has gotten mighty close. (Half debating on switching places between him and Valtr, but their scores are also similar so imma just leave it like this)
Queen Killer
Works as advertised, he killed the queen. Joking aside, he's generally quite a good summon. Dealt a fuckload of damage to the defiled hellhound (canon + head is a very good combination, I've heard) and does quite well against Yharnam. We don't talk about the Defiled Amygdala, that fight is hell and summoning Queenie only makes it harder.
Damian
HOW THE HELL DID YOU TANK EBRIETAS SPACE LASER?! Like, bro just brushed that shit off and kept throwing hands with her (...on like 5 hp left lol). Just like with Henryk and the Madaras Twin, he gets bullied by Rom and her shitlings, but other than that he doesn't die that often.
Gascoigne
Hasn't died to the Cleric Beast but he did get very close once. Like, sir. Please use a damn vial I don't want you to get flattened by an overgrown chihuahua.
Antal
This man has not gotten close to dying once out of the times I've summoned him. Takes hits like a pro, great at being a distractor while I heal or use an item, and can handle The One Reborn while I kill the bell ringers, with very little issue (unlike someone else).
This is all for fun and none of this is meant to be taken seriously; it's just me and my ramblings about the hunters I've summoned. Really gotta work on keeping Yamamura alive tho, I feel bad for him.
(this list is very not organised, sorry about that)

Fromsoftware and their habit of adding their ever present “eastern lands” is good excuse to add Japanese inspired characters like Yamamura, and this land is often described with words like bloody and violent (I don’t think so in Bloodborne, but yes in Elden Ring and Dark Souls). I think they do this because specifically alluding to the warring states period in Japan cause it’s constant bloodshed, civil war, and its interesting.
I think the “forbidden/tainted blood” brought back to Cainhurst is supposed to be the source and reason people associated with Cainhurst or using the Chikage can do battle with blood. The blood they imbibe, the Cainhurst blood is volatile or special in some way that it damages the owner and the enemies inflicted with it. It can also be set aflame like how Lady Maria does.
Yamamura has no ties to Cainhurst or fancy blood stuff
”I love sushi” is great though, and probably old deep lore
So bloodborne, in true fromsoft fashion, mentions a distant eastern land and adds no further elaboration. And I have a theory that Cainhurst had ties to them, hence why they have katanas. Maybe they just commissioned some weapons from an eastern forger?

Bloodborne beach episode!.... the NORMAL beach episode, and not how it went... the last time -_- *glares at monster hunters from Byrgenwerth*
In case if Tumblr ruins the quality, I shared full res on Devi: ( x ).
I've started this WIP back in summer 2021, but I've abandoned it since then, and only this summer decided to actually finish it.. Some errors since that time carried on as a result, and arguably I draw a bit better humans now... But the only true way to learn to draw large 'crowd' pieces like this is to simply draw more of them, hahah; Sizing of characters within perspective is yet to be improved, of course, not to mention that some characters are not drawn quite accurately to my heights headcanons for them but I will be real, it was fun to draw! And I just... really wanted to draw something happy and colorful for a long while, since BB's grim atmosphere striped me out of this fix. At least now there is ER for my bright colors needs lol
(Important: there are no OCs on this piece! The girl under Willem's chair is Rom, guy chased by the seaqulls is Bloody Crow, there is Byrgenwerth gatekeeper being buried in sand by Dores the Byrgenwerth graveguard (canon characters only mentiond in the item most of the players never found), Choirling is Yurie, girl next to Maria is of course Adeline, and the guy with the kite is Caryll!)

Licensed dbd killers as dogs
Michael Myers: Doberman
Doberman’s sometimes become obsessed with one person in particular, this is similar to Michael’s perks in DBD which are obsession based as well as his nature in general to hunt down one at a time.
Bubba Sawyer: American Bully
Bully’s have a negative reputation due to their strength and owners who treat them badly or train them to be aggressive. This fits with Bubba as he is the way he is because of the way his family treat him.
Freddy Krueger: Weimaraner
They are dogs that were bred to hunt large game and thus some have been known to have children set off their prey drive.
Amanda Young: English Springer Spaniel
Springer Spaniels tend to seem foolish and dopey, but they’re actually very intelligent hunting dogs. This fits with Amanda’s personality - they are considered to be sweet but judged to be unintelligent by others despite being a genius engineer.
The Demogorgon: Australian Cattle Dog
Australian Cattle Dogs are incredibly loyal to their owners which fits with Demogorgon’s connection to the Mind Flayer but also Dart’s attitude to Dustin in Stranger Things. They also have a distinctive bark which sounds similar to the noises Demogorgon makes.
Pyramid Head: Akita
Pyramid Head is a product of toxic masculinity, a terrifying huge creature that is physical representation of guilt and pain. This fits with the stereotype of an Akita, as being a guard dog who will defend very masculine, patriarchal owners.
Nemesis T-Type: Norwegian Elkhound
Norwegian Elkhounds are bread as loyal, intelligent hunting dogs. This fits Nemesis who in RE3 has a goal to hunt down all of the STARS members. Also they kind of look like Nemesis in vibe.
Elliot Spencer, The Cenobite: English Pointer
I think he just looks like an English Pointer. They are hunting, active and highly strung dogs which fits the determined Cenobite who will trap his victims with his chains and hunt them down.
Sadako Yamamura: Cantabrian Water Dog
She looks like a Cantabrian water dog, but also they are friendly and gentle which fits Sadako’s personality before being trapped in the well. They’re also bred to work in water which fits our well dwelling friend.
Albert Wesker: Pharaoh Hound
Looking at a Pharaoh Hound it just looks like a proud dog that would be the companion of a man like Wesker who is obsessed with superior genetics and is a fast, intelligent hunter.
The Xenomorph: Czechoslovakian Wolfdog
They were bred by the Czechoslovakian military and used as border patrol dogs and later search and rescue dogs. They began as a cross of a German Shepard and Carpathian grey wolves. This fits the Xenomorph, the military connection is a tad tongue in cheek, but if we make the assumption that Xenomorph was protecting her territory which is what led to an attack, that fits the idea of a border patrol dog. She’s also a proud, old world species like a wolf.
Charles Lee Ray / Chucky: Chihuahua
Not much to say. Little, angry, shouty, sharp teeth - yet has the murderous intent of a tiger.
Vecna: Philippine Forest Dog
A dog indigenous to the Phillipines that has been around for 30,000 years, making it old and had little to do with human breeding. Also, google them. They look remarkably like Vecna.
Dracula: Transylvanian Hound
I mean, yes because they’re from Transylvania but also other reasons. These hounds are bred for scent and hunting, this is reminiscent of vampires which smell blood and hunt using it. The breed was rescued from extinction which fits Dracula’s lore in Castlevania with him trying to destroy every human as revenge for what happened to his wife.
Ken Kaneki: Japanese terrier
Japanese terriers look exactly like what Ken Kaneki would look like were he turned into a dog. They have the white and black colouring, they’re small and skinny, just like him. They are cheerful dogs which fits pre-Ghoul Kaneki, they are also keen and alert and will bark and yell at the slightest noise which matches Kaneki’s own temperament.
William Afton: Basset hound
I don’t know much about this character so I picked a rabbit hunting dog with long ears that looks a bit ragged and deranged.

Hello Katya, do you have any ideas about Simple Gratia?
....
Yes, my girl!! I have some observations AND ideas! I remember that back when I checked, a fan Wiki incorrectly said that she is wearing Yharnam Hunter set. I do not know whether they've fixed that since then or not, but I know it confused a few artists. Gratia, in reality, is wearing an Old Hunter set but slightly altered:

(Close images of her model are from this ( x ) page, datamined by AstralLace!) This is what an Old Hunter set looks like, for a reminder:
Gratia is an Old Hunter: the type that started under Gehrman like Maria, Vitus, Henryk, Djura, Bestial Hunter, all that. I think that she knew all these characters and more, and with Maria she was a lot like an older sister that Maria never had! But I think she would be genuinely annoyed by Djura's complex inventions and at times not be able to hide her disdain, right in the middle of Djura ranting about them! That'd spark stupid, petty arguments about what kind of weapon is "better" which their friends laugh at in the corner like hyenas until Gehrman or Maria separate them XD
In comparison with the generic set, she is missing the long flowing cape, as well as the glove on her left hand. Her weapon, a chunk of metal, also goes in the left hand. I think she is missing the glove to have a stronger grip on the metal, so it would not slip away! I wondered what her right hand weapon would be before, but I think she doesn't need one in the end! I imagine her staggering the beast with her Iron Fist and then TEARING THEIR HEAD OFF WITH HER FREE HAND DFJHFSHSD .....but, you know, a hammer or a mace would also be nice yeah sure
In Bloodborne setting, red hair is also highlighted as a trait of Cainhurst nobles, that isn't really seen in any other NPC. Edgar may be also a ginger but much brighter kind, certainly not a REDhead!
This makes me think: what if Gratia's red hair is not just a random design choice, but a hint? And even if it isn't, it can still be used for a headcanon! Cainhurst nobles descend from Pthumeru Ihyll and have some Pthumerian heritage (just in case here ( x ) is the post with evidences of it) 🤔 At the same time, Pthumerians have gigantic variants, that seem to be more slow and dim than 'regular' ones. And interestingly, Gratia is abnormally big AND stated to have some intellectual drawbacks:
So, she has 1) otherwise Cainhurst-exclusive hair color 2) a size abnormally large for a human and 3) correlation between inability to use guns and being 'dim'! This gave me a headcanon that she was born in the Cainhurst walls, but shown Pthumerian genes that were "undesired" in the eyes of snobbish nobles and thus, abandoned at birth. She never knew of her origins, but was adopted by a kind man! Yeah, in this context, Maria and Gratia feeling family-like bond almost from the start in kind of fateful!
^ I often draw her with the same body pattern that shows on the skin of Snatchers, and that is exactly what kind of descendant she is!
I also always liked the idea that Gratia, Simon and Yamamura were the 'detective friends' up to uncover the Healing Church's secrets! Later, I decided the Yahar'gul Hunter we find in the prison under Grand Cathedral should also be a part of the squad! I did not know that Simon interestingly had Fist of Gratia as a part of his equipment back then and only judged from their location, but that made me feel validated with that headcanon! xD
Gratia is, of course, more of a 'power' of the team! She might be not very smart, but she has her heart in a good place and can understand the concept of shady bad business that should be stopped. She is easy to deceive in terms of pranks and other remotely innocent things, but when someone lying to her or trying to use her is malicious she will sense it. Pair that with her being very brave and blunt, and you really don't want to mess with her! The girl could grab Laurence and slam him against the wall accusing him of being "full of shit" if he attempted to deceive her, ffs! And not even his friends would defend him because it IS his fault for playing with this tigress x)
Needless to mention that she is protective over her friends! Not a kind of a protective friend that will mindlessly jump into fighting the other guy, but someone that will walk in and give them a fair warning to get lost first. She has threatening aura and usually just that is enough to scare away a person that means no good to someone she cares about. But, when she is powerless to do anything against some prick in power or likewise, she will express her frustration by breaking a property on her way out xd
Also she gives me this vibe:
Thank you for an ask! :D She has a very vivid and fleshed out image in my mind! Funny enough, this makes describing her harder because she feels so self-explanatory for me!

Burial Blade and Blade of Mercy are made out of meteorite, but WHY? Inspiration and context behind them (+ the source of snake infestation)
This one is a reply on ask from @bobbyzombiegg that I decided to put here because I really keep forgetting to use THIS blog for lore and not my personal/shitposts one...
I know, and this is such a good observation! I am glad that you've noticed what else connects Burial Blade and Blade of Mercy! Even better - whereas Burial Blade severs the ties of a person with the Dream, Blade of Mercy, in a way, helps to create it!
The interesting thing about these blades is that, of course, they must have been created before the conception of the Hunter's Dream! It makes it oddly coincidental that both weapons are useful for the cycle of Dream and Hunt, doesn't it? Blade of Mercy is at least believed to contribute to this as of now; the more we hunt the more messengers get added in the Hunter's Dream, so, perhaps, Blade of Mercy is not necessary! My personal interpretation of this is as Paleblood Hunter, our character has the privilege otherwise special for these weapons! Regardless of which weapon they use, they can send those they killed to be messengers (or add them in the cycle of the hunt, like how Henryk or Yamamura will become summonable after we kill them)!
Still, it starts to look like too much was planned ahead? Blade of Mercy said to be made in an old workshop would imply Old Hunters, likely created by Gehrman himself, from the same material as his own weapon! But I think the answer here is that Messengers, something akin to Hunter's Dream and similar weapons existed since Pthumerian times!
Starting with the weapons observation here! Pthumerian Descendant, interestingly, displays the similar style of transforming their blade into two same as how Blade of Mercy does it! Meanwhile, Gehrman's blade is fashioned similarly to Mergo's Wet Nurse's blades! In isolation, I would not think this means anything.. but crows, according to Hunters of Hunters lore, ARE connected with taking the souls and passing them into Dream realm, which is also Nightmare realm!
(Link to my other post explaining why Vilebloods descend from Pthumerians ( x ) in case someone who doesn't know already finds this post)
Wet Nurse herself is very bird-like (crow-like, specifically), and very coincidentally, Baneful Chanters pray to those who "have no blood" as those who'd have enough power to curse the hunters (which is to ensure they go in the Nightmare realm). Wet Nurse not only coincidentally fuels at least one section of Nightmare by nurturing Mergo, the center of it, but also, Nightmare realm has Winter Lanterns whose heads are made of Messengers!
So we have: Wet Nurse already being quite Pthumerian with her accessories and fighting style, Pthumerians and their descendants (down to Cainhurst!) honoring symbolism of crows, Yharnam (a city named after Queen Yharnam, after all) having depiction of BIRD-like Messenger in its oldest part, superstition about crows taking souls of the murdered in Hunter's Dream, people praying to "bloodless ones" to take the souls into Nightmare instead + evidence of it happening with Winter Lanterns.. In my opinion it is fair to assume that the weapons Gehrman created had a pre-existing inspiration and their similarity to pre-existing Pthumerian weapons is not coincidental!
Alright, first - I want a Bloodborne prequel where I could make a Pthumerian Paleblood Hunter. Second, as you can see, concept of the Messengers, the "Hunter" symbol/rune (depiction of the hanged man of course), and even the MOONLIGHT Sword were a thing since Pthumerian times! (It is safe to assume Ludwig found this sword somewhere in the Dungeons, as obtaining Radiant Sword Hunter badge is what lets you buy Tomb Prospector set!)
^ The note already mentioning Laurence associating with Moon Presence, THE Great One of the Hunt and the Dream, is found in Byrgenwerth already! Basically? Without maybe predicting that he would be trapped in the Hunter's Dream one day, Gehrman already knew what he was doing with the weapons.
Conclusion: there was the clear idea in mind! Blade of Mercy, intended to kill people from the start, immortalises the hunters as the HUNTERS and brings them in "Heaven" of Moon Presence, before they turned into beasts, whereas Burial Blade, initially intended for hunting everyone that was no longer human (for example, poor Fish People), ensures they, on the contrary, never go to "Heaven". What later serves to sever a Hunter from the Hunter's Dream initially intended to sever non-humans from it, in a way sentensing them to "Hell". :) Gehrman is a fun person.
+ Also some bonus observations regarding the topic of Yharnamites still continuing Pthumerian traditions, likely brought back because of Byrgenwerth, and then Healing Church, diving into dungeons:
(Context for those that didn't play Bloodborne because Sony hates you and you in particular: both this trap in the dungeons and this bath in Yahar'gul warp you in another area, connected by the circle of candles)
Forbidden Woods, surrounding Byrgenwerth, are full of formations that resemble the Tonsil Stone very much! However, when you examine the woods, you will see that sometimes there are body parts near these "heads"! This could be another case of petrification upon strong arcane impact, similarly to petrified body of Rom near Ebrietas, to petrified bodies of other Kin in Upper Cathedrals covered by fabric, bodies of victims in Yahar'gul, all that!
Were they people living in the woods that started to turn into Kin (like Garden of Eyes that are also found in Byrgenwerth) but didn't live until petrification, or were they baby Great Ones born only to instantly die? I am not sure. Both can work.
But, snakes are an interesting clue here. Besides Forbidden Woods, they are only also found in Hintertombs - a dumping ground for corpses of Pthumeru Ihyll that became venomous! Forgotten Madman, who is a former Choir member as he uses A Call Beyond, is found in these dungeons + getting Cosmic Watcher Badge is what lets you buy Poisonous Knife. Doesn't it look strange for Choir members to pick so much interest in this? Snake infestation might be a strange result of burying cosmic Kin in the ground, a corruption of what would normally be a process of multiple parasites/phantasms settling in a corpse of a cosmic being, OR someone affiliated with one! We do have precedents:
Cosmic creatures, "downgraded" and "filthied", becoming something eartly instead, such as snakes! One of them was able to raise human children (Madaras twins), so sure they are unusual!
So, what I am trying to say is, it is possible that Tonsil Stone is a result of burial of a dead (and rapidly petrifying) cosmic Kin, one that was yet not rotted like what we see in Forbidden Woods! Maybe even more directly so, it is a petrified skull of a cosmic Kin, most likely of Amygdala's kind, and a "meteorite" in the sense of them coming from space! So, creating weapons both of which are connected with burial ritual from the buried Kin is appropriate! This or similar technology maybe also was discovered by Pthumerians long ago, so examining Hintertombs was a great help with figuring what material to use for Burial Blade and Blade of Mercy!
^ These disturbing dead cosmic Kin fetuses are found in Byrgenwerth in two forms: one depicts a petrified corpse, something we already knows happens with Kin, such as Rom and eldrich creatures in Upper Cathedral. Another is dead, rotting, showing horns, and has multiple tiny skulls on its head! The latter one gets my point about corpses of Kin, or maybe anyone touched by Kin, sprouting smaller life forms from within. People infected by snake virus sprout several snakes from their heads, rather than turning into a snake or something!
It is entirely possible that Byrgenwerth used to bury creatures like this in the grounds around the college, and that those gigantic graves in Forbidden Woods were for much larger Great Ones: "Hunt the Great Ones. Hunt the Great Ones." note is found in Byrgenwerth as well! They might have been able to resist the full rotting that results into snakes due to their size and development, hence their graves still show sluggish phantasms. Burying other ones, on the other hand, was a big mistake. Or, should I say.... a GRAVE mista- *gets sniped*

These are my thoughts on the topic! You kinda got two theories at the price of one here, but snake infestation was somewhat relevant in the context of burial and my idea of what IS this "meteorite"! Thank you so much for prompting me to tie this theory together at last!!
