i thought i'd do an updated introduction post since i’ve been so inactive, so new mutuals/followers can know more about me!😊❤️

my name is kittie, i am 18, i have been diagnosed with autism & adhd since i was 15 (important to know because it explains why i am the way that i am lol) i don’t mind what pronouns you use for me, literally any are fine. i am just a person. 😁

i first started collecting violet exacts in 2019 however my collection has grown pretty slowly since i can’t hold down a job because disability.. disables. 🥲😭💔

i enjoy old things quite a lot, at the moment my main areas of interest are in: gothic architecture, silent film era (georges méliès films are my fav), skeleton keys, children’s books & toys from the 40s-70s, taxidermy, postcards, and vintage fashion/lingerie from the 40s-70s.

i also cosplay, i just don’t post it on the internet very much, my favourite anime are: kamisama kiss, vampire knight, nana, paradise kiss, love live, k-on, the future diary and chobits.

my main/oldest special interest is japanese fashion subcultures! (lolita, mori kei, fairy kei, dolly kei and cult party kei to be specific)

i don’t game regularly but my favourite games/game franchises are: american mcgees alice & madness returns, fran bow, sally face, little misfortune, stray, silent hill, elder scrolls, resident evil, skyrim, bloodborne, life is strange, the walking dead, the last of us and batman: arkham knight.

📰📸 View of the Arts: Bang Yongguk: A Fiery Return to the London Stage A/N: posted on 241101

Bang Yongguk moves like a flame, his aura alive with passion and purpose. Every time he steps on stage, even with songs like I Remember [yes, yes that’s one of my favourite songs] from 2011, he breathes new life into his music, each note more powerful than the last. To witness his journey from a young, determined teenager to the man he has become is like watching a river carve its path through stone – steady, uncompromising, and beautiful. Seeing his career evolve fills me with a deep sense of pride as his artistry truly reflects the passion and soul he invests in everything he does.

Yongguk has found a kindred spirit in Europe, particularly in the heart of London, where music flows like the River Thames. Camden has become a cherished destination for his performances, filled with the sounds of jazz, rock, and the beats of hip-hop and K-pop. Our first encounter with Yongguk as a solo artist was in 2019 at the Underworld, a venue steeped in history and artistry. Fast forward to 2023, and we were thrilled to experience him again, this time at Dingwalls. As fate would have it, we found ourselves returning to Dingwalls once more. This venue, with its intimate atmosphere and rich musical legacy, is a perfect stage for talents like Yongguk, who have the power to satisfy even the most demanding concertgoers.

Let’s not forget, Dingwalls saw its fair share of legends pass through its doors, from the iconic Oasis and Blur to the legendary The Ramones, Coldplay, and the one and only Foo Fighters. It is a sanctuary of sound that hosts the best of the best, and on October 20th, we witnessed Yongguk’s magic once again. 

It all began with DJ’s intense set – and   I truly mean intense! He undeniably set the house on fire even before Yongguk appeared on stage. And when Yongguk did, he brought even more heat with his superb performance.

Yongguk delivered a dynamic mix of old and new tracks, kicking off his set with the 2022 single RACE. Dressed in his signature black and sporting a fresh hairstyle, he “injected” the song with such explosive energy that the entire room was ready to go wild. Together with his DJ, he flared up the stage from the first beat, and no matter how he entered, once he was on stage, he simply owned it. 

Yongguk’s first full-length self-titled album, BANGYONGGUK, is one of a kind, so there was no surprise that the artist decided to include Xie Xie in the setlist too. During his first MENT, he addressed his fans with sincere energy: “What’s up everyone, I’m Bang Yongguk. I’m finally back in London – I’ve really missed you. Ride or Die from Yongguk’s mini-album The Colors of Love, released last year, was, and still is, a great hip-hop track that displays both his singing and rapping. And as the red stage lights washed over the crowd, everyone felt like part of the experience. His fans, loyal as ever, became an essential part of the performance.

Yongguk also performed tracks like IXLU and NUMB from his 2024 release EP 3as well as OFFOfffrom the 2022 EP 2. Once again, the lighting worked in his favour, perfectly complementing the mood of each song allowing him to deliver a performance that was both powerful and emotionally impactful.

In his next MENT, he expressed his appreciation towards his fans once more and fondly mentioned his former B.A.P members, sharing his hope to one day perform together with them in London.  

I Remember, one of his earliest solo projects, hit differently. Released in 2011, this track, featuring Yang Yo-seob, took me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, filled with unfiltered lyrics and energy. Even in this early solo release, Yongguk demonstrated that his lyricism has always been a central part of his artistry.

Yongguk also included HIKIKOMORI + AM 4:44, Up, UFO, YAMAZAKI, and BUSS IT DOWN in his setlist – and what a powerful performance it was! Then came MOVIMIENTO from his EP 3, where he fully embraced the dancefloor – the stage – powered by a club beat driving every moment of the track. 

If you thought that was the full set, you’d be mistaken. Yongguk gave the audience even more, performing five additional songs, including BAD and Green, before closing the night with Ride or Die, MOVIMIENTO, and Orange Drive. With each track, he painted an intimate portrait of his journey – at times raw and rebellious, at times reflective and nostalgic. It must also be pointed out that Yongguk’s artistic range is impressive, making him one of the most exciting artists of his generation. The energy was superb, leaving us all longing for his triumphant return to London!

Hello, I just wanted your opinion and thoughts of rammstein 30th anniversary, like do you think we will get the 2019,2022 dvds or even hopefully the velodrom 2001 full concert dvd, and what about some of the official making of videos of angst and other videos of the zeit album, and we can't forget about the new documentary, so do you think we'll get any of these things this year for rammstein 30th anniversary 🤘🏻🖤

What do I expect from the group's 30th anniversary !?

First on stage I would like to see old pyro effects again like for example Till's coat of flames, the dragon masks or even Engel's wings (even if I don't want Till to hurt his back) 🔥

And also I would love to see Bück Dick (with the Tillake moment) and Pussy (with the cannon) again (although I have very little hope 🙄)

And also the mini b-stage at eye level with the public (even if I know that in a stadium it's complicated).

I don't have too many expectations for the setlist, I would just like a few surprises compared to the last three rounds.

And why not a slightly "loud and hard" first part, a bit "Rammstein old-school", like with Clawfinger 🤘🏻

I'm waiting for the live DVD but I don't really know which images will be there: those filmed in Vienna in 2019 and/or those from Mexico in 2022. I'm not sure they can make a mix of the two as there are quite a few differences between these tours...

We also know that they filmed some videos in Mexico, we have already seen those of Richard and Paul but the context of these images has not been officially clarified. Nor if the live DVD will be paired with the documentary.

Besides, I'm waiting with even more impatience for the documentary which has just been finished at the start of 2024.

We know that it should be divided into 4 parts/episodes (broadcast on a streaming platform) and include archive images of the group, in particular live images (well those which have not been leaked since certain "fans" (?) have again embarrassed the group by publishing videos on YouTube which were originally planned for the documentary thus causing a delay in production 😡).

And we know from Paul's own mouth that the song Ramm4 should be published alongside the documentary. I don't know if there is a date planned at the moment: before, during or after the tour...

I don't think we will have any other DVDs this year, especially from an old concert like the one from 2001 in Berlin. If it comes out one day, it will be on their YouTube channel.

What I would like to see in the documentary :

- We know that there will be interviews with the guys so I would like them to tell us funny anecdotes, their best memories, stories that they experienced together, to tell us what unites them still today, etc ;

- Images from before Rammstein, from their lives in the GDR, from their musical beginnings with Feeling B, First Arsch, Die Firma, etc ;

- Interviews with those close to them and their views on the guys, their beginnings and their evolution into an international super band ;

- I would like images of the band in recording sessions and rehearsals, to see how they think about what they are going to do on stage, behind the scenes in a way, how they work ;

- I would also like some new images from backstages, I love the photos we got but on video it must be even better ;

- Obviously I would love to have the making of the most recent videos: Deutschland (I'll be very very very very very disappointed if I don't see it this year 🙏🏻), Adieu, Zeit, etc.

I would also like a best-of with unreleased songs, we know that the guys have recorded songs over time that have never been published on an album so it would be cool if they offered them to us today.

I don't really know what else to expect, I want to be surprised🥳 And please, Rammstein, don't sell your new merch too expensive, I'm out of money 🥲

𓃠 Update: every Friday

𓃠 Summary: Yoongi, the I-really-don't-wanna-be-a member of the Seoul's biggest drug cartel, The Hwanggeum, has been blaming himself for the past fifteen years for the tragedy that happened to Jimin. But a fateful turn of events brings them face to face. And they find themselves uncovering the truth that throws Yoongi off the pedestal on which Yoongi has been balancing his life till now.

The roaring endless flames of fire engulfing every existing element. Dark smoke covering every possible inch of the space. A distant cry for help. A small figure coming in and out of sight– reaching out it's hands, small red hands– eyes pleading for help, hands choking him to death. 

Yoongi wakes up with a start – sweats dripping and wetting his body. His chest moves up and down heavily, keeping pace with his beating heart. After a few moments of trying to calm down he slumps his back in a relaxed posture and covers his face with his large palms and sighs heavily– the nightmare is never going to let him escape.

He reaches out his hand to the bedside table and finds the medicine just where it is supposed to be. The darkness of the room is barely an obstacle since he is accustomed to doing this for the past fifteen years.

But he is still not accustomed to the inner demon that causes him to suffocate in writhing agony. Every nightmare reminds him of the four year old boy whose eyes glistened at everything colourful, which made Yoongi love the colours too as a child. The child who made him happy just by smiling, just by touching, just by existing. The child who the eight years old Yoongi thought was the embodiment of happiness itself. That child who doesn't exist anymore in his life. The child who he has lost in that merciless fire.

Now he, as a defence mechanism, has abandoned everything that is not black. Black – that numbs him, stops him from remembering that face that he as a child had vowed to protect forever. Black – that covers his eyes from seeing anything that resembles fire. Black – that is incapable of making his guilt invisible. Black – that reminds Yoongi to never forget to keep repenting for his sins.

Grazing his hands over the long burnt mark on his left side of the back Jimin sighs in front of the mirror. He barely remembers anything that has caused the mark on his body. He only has information, rather vague but still an information – "Your parents died in a fire. The firemen could only take you out in time." The orphanage owner had told him when he was capable enough to ask questions.

He is glad though, that he doesn't remember anything about his family because memories only make people more miserable. The possibility that they could have been here now by his side has always made him sad. He still feels there is an empty spot in his heart that needs to be filled. Not that it bothers the hell out of him but it still has an impact and Jimin would totally love it if it goes away. Given that, now he has people who he can rely upon and he appreciates them more than the aspect of "what if".

Wearing the pastel blue summer hoodie that his best friend's mom, now his mom, has gifted him he gets ready to go to university. A thought crosses his mind, "If my mom and dad were alive, they would have been so proud of me that I got into Seoul National University with a scholarship." A sad smile passes through his lips but he knows he has other people who are proud of him. Smiling brightly at the mirror he takes his luggage and goes for the taxi and his best friend in it who is waiting for him.

“O-kay,” Zelda said from behind him, taking it in stride and rummaging for her notebook. “How bad is it?” 

He lifted his fingers carefully from the stone and felt his feet firmly planted on the ground, the sheathed sword on his back. “Extremely haunted.”

Zelda, he knew, was concerning herself with the murals and iconography they’d discovered littering this cave system, most of them half-crumbled but all of them retaining some noteworthy style or symbolism. They all looked like they would crumble at the slightest touch, and Zelda was taking great care not to actually, physically touch them, just using the Purah Pad’s newly added camera feature and her worn notebook. Half the time, she was scribbling away or pondering in the torchlight or relentlessly discussing ideas. 

The murals were invaluable. The underground was still dark, dank, unstable, and they were running low on supplies. Link somehow had a relatively singular concern.

Mere hours into their descent, they had turned a bend and there were stones glowing that unearthly teal — the same color as the silent flames blurring the edges of the dead Champions, the dead king, into nothingness, or at least something far beyond real. Zelda had never seen them, or she never told him, but he had. 

He knew it from more than just ghosts. Link had always thought after waking up from old dreams, half-delirious, that they might be murmuring in the background — and every night he spent in Zora’s Domain, a beautiful city entirely built of luminous stones, he felt wisps of this strange and alien grief. The water had worn itself pathways into his memories and the statue of Mipha was always reaching out for him and the luminous pendants on his armor sang; that kind of thing. Back then, he’d chalked that up to his abnormally fucked-up memories. It had been a fact of life that a part of him was constantly in despair and the other part couldn’t imagine why. 

The entire cave wasn’t made of luminous stones or that kind of crystal, but the feeling was oddly present. Like a voice in the back of his head. That first time, Link had gone straight up and placed one hand on an outcropping of luminous stone. He was trying to feel, not knowing how, if there was something alive inside. There didn’t seem to be, assuming he’d be able to tell — but a shiver raced up his arm and for one singular moment, he thought he heard a distant voice, only the note they sang was swept up in the wind and submerged into the earth. Folded in. Trapped, even, in all the layers of stone surrounding them, and in the crystals growing out of the matrices of the rock. Glowing green.

He lifted his fingers carefully from the stone and felt his feet firmly planted on the ground, the sheathed sword on his back. “Extremely haunted.”

Zelda scribbled something furiously in her notebook. “Do you mind if I—?”

He moved aside. “Yeah, go ahead.”

She placed one palm on the stone. After a few moments, she stepped back, rubbed her eyes, and groaned. “I’ll… add it to the list.”

They went on, deeper, and Link kept seeing them. The stones appeared in increasing numbers and, he thought, saturation. Zelda told him as they walked that she couldn’t hear any voices without direct contact with the stone and was at a loss for how he should tune it out. They briefly discussed diamond effects, but those gemstones were in short supply, and after Link suggested he listen for any patterns or distinct attempts at communication, that was that. 

He was pretty sure the stones were actually speaking — to him, or each other, or… something else. It wasn’t in any way he understood; but he started to feel gradually that there was a song to it. A rhythm. Sometimes it even sounded like a heartbeat.

It was getting louder.

“You’re positive there’s something alive down here.”

“Okay, well, alive is a strong word—” 

“You’re hearing a heartbeat, Link, that means something is— well, alive. Pumping blood.”

He flopped his hands. “The cave? Is it like — a Divine Beast?”

Zelda shrugged helplessly. “Maybe, if they had a heart… no, it’s silly. I’m being serious. You can see dragons and other spirits, ones I can’t — you’ve always been more sensitive to these kinds of things — I think there’s something happening, I just don’t really know what.”

They’d stopped. Zelda was striking flint over her torch; the clang echoed briefly in the cavern, resounding off the crystals with the teal sheen, and was lost into the shadows.

“Well,” Link said, “nowhere to go but down.”

The cavern opened up after a few more hours. A massive archway stood at the end, decorated with a stylized boar at its height and carvings running down its sides. The way down was stepped. After they’d both taken a rest, Link tried the first one as Zelda took pictures and notes, and there was a strange, tangible sense in the air of — 

It smelled like death, more than any of the passageways they’d gone through so far. It felt like the air was wrapped in malice. 

Link’s hands went, by reflex, to his bow — searching for the flare of a yellow eye in the darkness — but there was none. His sword, on the other hand, was vibrating on his back. He drew it an inch out of the sheath; its blade glowed, radiant. 

He opened his mouth, then processed and quickly stepped back. Turning to Zelda, he whispered, “It’s definitely down there.”

Zelda didn’t look up from her notebook. “That seems correct. It’s a very ominous archway we’re standing under. Do you want to go in first, or should I?”

They went side by side in the end. There were more carvings within, surprisingly well-preserved. A figure descending from the heavens. A Hylian, hand interlocked with theirs. A beast trailing red in faded, cracked pigment. 

“This figure…” Zelda mumbled in snatches, flipping through her notes, “they… this can’t be…”

Link shoved his face into his hands. “Zel.”

“…Zonai…? Urgh. Yes, Link, I can feel malice everywhere. Just give me one minute.”

“Then we go closer to it,” Link checked. Zelda nodded several times.

He paced for several minutes more than one, listening to the sound of Zelda’s pencil skittering across her page and the click of the Purah Pad’s camera, pointedly attempting not to hear the voices crackling at the edges of his hearing. 

“Okay!” Zelda called. 

Link stood at the top of what appeared to be a long, chipped stairway, winding down. It wasn’t as hard to see as it might have been. There was a tinge of greenish light to the stone. 

She joined him. “Ready?”

They descended into a narrowing tunnel. It felt like a long way down, too deep to be this well-lit — the light was increasing, trailing through the air, leaving greenish sparks and strange symbols that fragmented too quickly for Zelda to catch their shape. It wove pathways. It flowed. It came into contact with Link’s sword hand and jolted through his fingers.

The tunnel opened up into a wide chamber, pointed structures spiking in from the ceiling — all from the center was the light. It was the same color as the stones and his friends’ spirits before they burst into sparks (he’d seen, he’d felt it, he knew when they were gone). It twisted in a spiral from the center upwards, unearthly, otherworldly, carrying what felt like a thousand voices with it and they were all singing untuned. They rose from a massive hand and arm upon a grayed and skeletal chest. The body was arched backwards. Malice flowed, wispy and transparent, from it, and disappeared into the crevices of the rock. The hand shone teal. 

Zelda stepped forward. The Master Sword thrummed.

The earth shook — suddenly everything was rising up at once. The light was fragmenting and showering in threadlike particles that dissolved midair; they were crying, and the arm was trembling under the force of it. Link drew his sword and it was nowhere, nowhere near enough.

DA Review Series: Deception

Title: Deception Author/Illustrator: Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir/ Fernando Heinz Furukawa Year Published: 2019 In-World Year: ~9:44 Dragon Verdict: According to Goodreads, I've read this graphic novel before, but I have no memory of it. It's the shortest of the graphic novels and I think definitely worth the hour or so it takes to read. Not only do we see some familiar faces and meet some new ones, but we see a pivotal point in Tevinter's war with the Qunari. So, like, important stuff.

Deception starts with an all new character, a con artist named Olivia Pryde. She's got a mark in Ventus (formerly Qarinus) she's eager to steal from, only to discover that the boy isn't who he claims to be. He's another con artist! With the Qunari preparing to invade and her old flame Ser Aaron in town, Olivia is eager to put Ventus behind her.

But, of course, nothing is that simple. Ser Aaron and Vaea are in town to help Dorian prepare the city to evacuate, in exchange for a chance to steal an artifact from a reclusive magister's mansion. That's where the con artists come in.

With a little help from a pair of Antivan Crows (they aren't named but this is our introduction to Teia and Viago!), Olivia and her failed mark, Calix, steal the blueprints of the mansion from the Ventus Archive. And that's all Vaea needs to get inside.

Once there, the group discovers that the Magister wasn't a hermit. He was dead, and his elven servant has been impersonating him for years. And he's found a new master. It's not stated, but it's easy to infer that he works for Solas.

Apparently Vaea and Co., were hunting a "red lyrium weapon" from Kirkwall, but the Agent of Fen'Harel traded it away for information. Which leaves me with so many questions! Is this Meredith's weapon? If so, how did Solas get it and for what purpose? If he wanted it, why trade it away? Can this servant even be trusted?

We'll never know because the Qunari invade Ventus before Vaea and Co., can get the answers. With Dorian's help, and Olivia's sacrifice to hold off the Qunari, our heroes escape the falling city.

Calix, moved by Olivia's sacrifice, decides to take her last name since, as an escaped slave, he doesn't have one of his own.

And that's where we leave our new friends, on the run from a fallen Ventus.

as  she  placed  the  ivory  note  back  onto  the  wooden  tray,  yunhee  lay  back  and  rest  her  head  against  a  folded  towel,  trying  to  go  back  to  luxuriating  herself  in  the  relaxing  bath  she  was  having.  she  could  almost  sink  into  the  tranquil  silence  underneath  the  bathwater,  washing  all  the  worries  and  thoughts  she'd  been  having.  but  yunhee  knew  too  well  it  wouldn't  do  her  any  good  for  her  trying  to  ignore  both  the  situation  and  the  invitation  at  hand.  warm  water  splashes  in  lively  ebbs  and  flows  around  her  as  she  reluctantly  got  up  from  the  tub, reaching  for  a  cotton  bathrobe  and  wrapped  it  around  her  petite  physique.

a  curious  bounce  embellished  her  quiet  footsteps  as  she  took  the  ivory  letter  from  the  bathtub  tray  before  she  meandered  across  the  bathroom  into  her  bedroom.  with  puerile  curiosity,  does  yunhee  finally  read  the  letter  and  memorized  its  every  words,  letting  them  embedded  into  her  mind.  to  think  this  is  how  min  jihye  decides  to  come  back  into  her  life  again,  by  sending  her  a  measly  invitation  to  a  dinner  party  with  the  rest  of  the  king's  club  members  after  the  two  former  best  friends  have  already  went  years  with  barely  any  form  of  communication  between  them.  yunhee  simply  scoffed  in  indignation  at  the  audacity.  as  if  it  wasn't  enough  that  it  had   been  an  agonizingly  arduous  process,  to  collect  all  the  jagged  pieces  of  her  fragmented  heart  in  order  to  start  anew  after  what  had  transpired,  to  try  and  be  whole  again  ⸻  yet  here,  once  more,  she's  being  dragged  into  a  gathering  with  the  very  group  of  people  who  all  contributed  to  her  misery. 

arrayed  in  nothing  but  her  bathrobe,  yunhee  made  her  way  downstairs  into  the  living  room  of  her  penthouse  where  it  was  dimly  lit,  casted  by  the  flickering  flames  of  the  fireplace.  she  stood  in  front  of  the  heart,  reading  the  invitation  and  it's  details  for  one  final  time  before  yunhee  crouches  downwards  in  one  deft  movement.  eventually,  she  let  the  paper  slipped  from  her  hands,  and  watches  as  it  fluttered  for  one  moment  before  it  eventually  got  caught  in  the  updraft  of  the  heat.  the  soft,  rhythmic  sound  of  logs  settling  and  the  gentle  murmur  of  the  flames  as  the  ivory  note  was  slowly  devoured  by  the  flickering  fire  does  nothing  to  soothe  the  dread  that  slowly  filled  her  whole  chest.

 HEADCANNONS & TIMELINE : THE DINNER PARTY OF JULY 21, 2024

as one can imagine, yunhee wasn't exactly the happiest when she received the invitation, especially when its was supposedly min jihye, her estranged and former best friend of all people who invited her. she can't even have the pleasure of rejecting the invitation as it is a king's club's gathering and unfortunately for her, because she's a member — her attendance was mandatory.

05.45PM — yunhee decided to come to mansion earlier than its expected time because while she may hate the king's club gatherings with every fiber of her existence, she isn't really one to be late and wasn't about to break her own streak of being punctual at events because of her own petty resentment.

06.00PM — she noticed the all too familiar uniforms and settings around the mansion earlier on. it unnerved her, as expected — as just the sight of how everything in her surroundings bears an extremely close and uncomfortable resemblance to that of midas resort where it only brought up awful memories of that fateful night.

for the next hour and so, yunhee decided to wait around pergola and the library before eventually making her way to the veranda. all whilst trying to avoid most of the king's club's members because she really wasn't in a mood to talk nor handle any of them.

07.15PM — when she arrived on the veranda, yunhee noticed too quickly that tian and sunyoung were having an extremely heated argument, catching only bits of the conversations until tian suddenly fell into the pool. she would have laugh at the sight of tian being absolutely drenched and the situation at hand, if only she didn't noticed a strange floating device in the pool nearby. when she finally realized how the floating toy looked eerily like a body and who exactly did it resemble to, her blood immediately run cold. faltering at the sight, yunhee managed fall back onto the floor before screaming in terror.

THE AFTERMATH : yunhee was absolutely inconsolable after witnessing the cruel joke. whoever organized this dinner made a mockery out of him, made a mockery out of her again. and she's once again reminded by the fact how the king's club have always loved turning her into some kind of a tragic joke once more. she refused to let anyone other than intae and aera to come near her, and refused anyone else's attempt at trying to comfort her after that whole spectacle.

07.30PM — by the time dinner was served, yunhee was practically catatonic. she was barely responsive to anyone during the dinner, having only picked at her meal while the rest of the gathering ate their shares in uncomfortable silence. but members of 2019 knew too well that only meant that yunhee was a ticking bomb, having already experienced the many times of the calm before the storm before yunhee's own outbursts and that it was only a matter of time before the bomb denotes and she explodes, burning everyone and the mansion along with her. ( and with that said, this is an invitation for anyone who wants drama and a fight! let yunhee fight your muse! let her fight! )

International Red Shoe Day

International Red Shoe Day, celebrated every July 25, was founded in memory of Australian Lyme disease patient Theda Myint, who passed away from the disease in 2013. The day was established in 2014 by Myint’s friends as a way to pay tribute to her, as well as to others worldwide who have lost their battles with Lyme or similar illnesses., The ‘red shoe’ was chosen as the symbol for the day because of Myint’s fondness for red shoes and how they are an integral part of her identity and fight.

HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL RED SHOE DAY

Karen Smith and Lisa Hilton — both founders of the Global Lyme & Invisible Illness Organization — came up with the idea for International Red Shoe Day in 2014. It was made in honor of their friend Theda Myint, who died of Lyme disease on July 25, 2013, thus the date. Myint’s disease grew gradually after she was bitten by ticks in Australia, and was exacerbated by a bout of flu she caught while traveling in Europe in 2000.

Her symptoms were relatively unseen by others, but she complained of constant headaches for nine years and became more sensitive to light and certain sounds. She would later also suffer bouts of extreme exhaustion, cognitive dysfunction, and a general pain constantly radiating in her body. Despite this, she tried her best to live a normal life and actively spent time with her loved ones.

She was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2011 and spent the remainder of her life advocating for the disease and researching treatment options until she died in 2013.

The day is observed with social gatherings and awareness programs in which people wear red shoes to mourn and celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have died. Myint was known for her love of red shoes, which is why the red shoe became the symbol of the day.

Lyme disease is one of several ‘invisible’ illnesses because individuals do not show clear indicators of illness even after being diagnosed. Because of the severity of their condition, they are likely to be confined to their beds and houses for lengthy periods, virtually rendering them ‘invisible’ to the rest of the world. As a result, determining the precise number of Lyme disease patients is challenging. As of 2019, the Lyme Conditions Association of Australia estimates approximately 2,000 Australians have the disease.

Thus, International Red Shoe Day is a day to not only commemorate Theda Myint’s brave journey but to also spread awareness and remember those who have lost their lives to Lyme or similarly invisible illnesses globally.

A tick bit me. Is Lyme disease something I have?

If you experience symptoms as a result of the bite, see a doctor straight away to get the matter taken care of as soon as possible.

I heard that if I get Lyme disease, I'll have it for life. Is that true?

Not exactly. If treated with antibiotics early, the initial symptoms can disappear and the patient can make a full recovery. The timing of these treatments is crucial as doing so in later stages can result in longer treatment periods. Over time, however, the symptoms can generally improve on their own depending on how effective the antibiotics are and how responsive one is to them.

Reading Wrap-Up (September)

And suddenly it’s October…

No, but seriously: this month has come quite quickly and I have yet to decide if I’m already ready for all the change it will bring. Not only will I open fresh new pages in fresh new books but also in my personal life, as my life in university will begin on Monday… I still can’t quite fathom it.

September has been filled with preparations for the time ahead but also with new reads. I spent my time tying up loose ends left from August and already started planting some seeds for the upcoming month.

Bella Ciao by Raffaella Romagnolo (2019)

Italy in the late 19th century. Giulia leaves Sicily for America after discovering that the man she is supposed to be marrying has fallen in love with her best friend, Anita. Decades later she returns and the little old town awakens long forgotten memories. But life has happened to Anita as well. Will the two women meet again? And what has really happened during the long time that has passed? In August I surprisingly discovered a certain comfort in generational dramas. I began reading this book while laying on the beach, enjoying the Italian sun. But somehow there was something about it that made me put it down for a few weeks. The writing and characters were incredibly realistic yet also incredibly melancholic. I loved how there usually was a deeper hidden meaning in some of the scenes which often felt like expertly placed punches in the gut. A dark, yet interesting beginning to last month’s reading.

My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness by Kabi Nagata (2017)

An autobiographical novel by a young Japanese woman who has had to struggle through her fair share of depression, eating disorders, anxiety and overall feeling like she has not found the ‘key’ to living yet. My sister has recently re-discovered manga and although are tastes often differ substantially, she believed I would enjoy the refreshingly honest psychological aspect of this work. And she was absolutely correct. There is something incredibly heartfelt and direct about the way, Kabi Nagata tells her story. She doesn’t sugarcoat her feelings and the way she talks about mental and physical health truly feels refreshing. She tackles ‘taboo’-topics in such an honest way, it makes them lose their sense of ‘unspeakableness’ often given to them by our modern society.

The Grain of Sand (Das Sandkorn) by Christoph Poschenrieder (2015)

It’s the beginning of the last century. Tolmeyn is arrested while spreading sand from different places in Italy in the streets of Berlin. With his questioning at the police station his life story slowly gets unveiled and the mystery behind his reasoning gets revealed piece by piece. It took me a couple (hundred) pages to truly be sucked into this novel. This might be attributed to the writing style of dividing it into shorter, almost diary-like entries and police reports, as it sometimes rips you out of the plot for a few seconds. Nonetheless, Poschenrieder has created an excellent morally gray character with very human emotions and flaws. He is trying to exist in a world which shuns the very core of his identity and has to adapt a kind of ‘secret code’ to navigate it unharmed. His life is filled with unanswered questions and unfulfilled desires. His struggles seemed authentic, thanks to the research that undoubtedly went into it. I do believe a story just like Tolmeyn’s could have easily played out in this way just a few decades ago. This book also ignited the flame of my passion for art history inside of me again.

The Obliterated (Die Vernichteten) by Ursula Poznanski (2014)

In September I was finally able to finish listening to the last installment of Ursula Poznanskis dystopian ‘Eleria’-trilogy. It concludes the events surrounding a group of ejected ‘darlings’ or ‘sphere inhabitants’ who first make contact with the outside world by means of a seeming misunderstanding and slowly start to unravel the conspiracy, the government which they have always put their unwavering trust in, has spun. It really took me three books to realize how fond I have grown of these characters and how invested I had become in the story detailing their adventures. Every single time I open one of her books or start listening to an audiobook by her, I am amazed by Ursula Poznanskis writing and how effortlessly she manages to create a vivid picture in my mind. I am a little bit ashamed at how late I am to reading these books and sort of wish I’d decided to do so when I was still in my ‘sci-fi’-phase a few years ago. But in my opinion, even someone who is not as invested in this particular genre is fully able to enjoy these books. There is just something so well done and satisfying about the way everything is wrapped up with a neat little bow in the end. A feeling which I get from most (if not all) of her work.

Dangerous Holidays - The Alps by Anna von Planta (2017)

This wonderful collection of short stories and novel excerpts all centered around the alps was gifted to me by one of my favorite professors and during the last month of summer I decided to take a trip down the very short memory lane. There is just something special in reading about your homeland (or better: home region). In this case, it was made even more special by the fact that so many of these places, the people living there and their practices and little quirks felt so familiar. Although most of these stories are set in Switzerland there are many similarities between the people from the places I’ve lived in and the Swiss. This novel really was a compilation of some of the best works in modern and classic fiction and I can not recommend it enough to anyone coming from or meaning to visit the alps.

Stories from Duckburg: Monsters, Mummies and Mutants! (2023)

Ever since I was a child I have loved Donald Duck and his friends and family. And I believed there was no better way to end my high school career (and subsequent ‘student’-status) than to practice some self-care by indulging in some nostalgic comics again. In this case, you either enjoy the humor in Duckburg or you don’t… there’s not much of a recommendation I can speak here. Only perhaps that if you’re looking to get back into reading comics again after a long time I’d recommend reading these ‘specials’ and analogies first because picking one of the seemingly millions of regular copies at random seems impossible. This little book was just the thing to put me in the spooky fall mood and end September with.

This little recap of September made me appreciate the diversity of genres I was able to read last month just a little bit more. I’m a strong believer of the fact that you need variety and alternation in your every day life. Not simply in reading matters but also in each and every other aspect of life. Only this variety can bring full happiness and fulfillment to one’s numbered days on earth.

Dustin Wolf, Goaltender (Calgary Wranglers): Winner of the Baz Bastien Award as the AHL’s top goaltender as a rookie in 2021-22, Dustin Wolf has followed up with another remarkable season, leading the AHL in wins (41), goals-against average (2.08), save percentage (.932), shutouts (7), minutes played (3,120), shots faced (1,594) and saves (1,486). Wolf, a 21-year-old native of Gilroy, Calif., also earned co-MVP honors at the 2023 AHL All-Star Challenge in Laval back in February, and picked up a victory in his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames on Apr. 12. He becomes the first AHL goaltender to garner back-to-back First Team All-Star nods since Bob Janecyk in 1981-82 and 1982-83, and the first ever to do so in his first two pro seasons. Darren Raddysh, Defenseman (Syracuse Crunch): Sixth-year pro Darren Raddysh has had a breakout season in 2022-23, shattering his previous career highs with 13 goals, 38 assists and 51 points in just 50 games played with Syracuse. Raddysh is tied for third in scoring among AHL defensemen despite spending most of the second half of the season in the NHL, where he has skated in 16 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Toronto native also represented the Crunch at the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic. Christian Wolanin, Defenseman (Abbotsford Canucks): Christian Wolanin leads all AHL defensemen with 49 assists and 55 points this season while skating in 49 games for Abbotsford in his first campaign in the Canucks organization. Wolanin, who has also played 16 games in the NHL with Vancouver this year, had a 13-game scoring streak from Nov. 10 to Dec. 9, and participated in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic in Laval, his second career All-Star nod. Originally a fourth-round pick by Ottawa in the 2015 NHL Draft, Wolanin signed a two-year extension with Vancouver on Mar. 23. Alex Barré-Boulet, Forward (Syracuse Crunch): Alex Barré-Boulet earns his second career postseason All-Star berth with a First Team selection as he ranks second in the AHL in assists (59) and points (82) – both career highs – over 67 games with Syracuse. The fifth-year pro is also tied for third in plus/minus among AHL forwards with a plus-25 rating, and he became the Crunch franchise’s all-time leader in goals, assists and points over the course of this season. Matthew Phillips, Forward (Calgary Wranglers): A 2016 draft pick by his hometown Calgary Flames, Matthew Phillips has set career highs across the board for the second year in a row, recording 36 goals (tied for the AHL lead), 39 assists, 75 points and a plus-17 rating in 64 games for the Wranglers. The fifth-year pro has also tied an all-time AHL mark with 15 game-winning tallies, helping Calgary to a league-best 50 victories and the best record ever for a Flames AHL affiliate. Joel Hofer, Goaltender (Springfield Thunderbirds): Joel Hofer earns a Second Team AHL All-Star nod on the strength of a 25-15-5 record, a 2.57 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in 45 appearances for Springfield this season. Hofer is also tied for second in the league with four shutouts, and ranks third in minutes played (2,660) and shots faced (1,283) while helping the Thunderbirds to their second straight trip to the Calder Cup Playoffs. A 22-year-old native of Winnipeg, Man., Hofer has also played six games this season with the St. Louis Blues, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Lucas Carlsson, Defenseman (Charlotte Checkers): Lucas Carlsson ranks second among AHL defensemen in scoring with 52 points (19 goals, 33 assists) in 60 games heading into the final weekend of the regular season for Charlotte. Carlsson’s goal, assist and point totals all represent career highs for the native of Gavle, Sweden, who is in his fifth season of pro hockey in North America. The 25-year-old blueliner also owns a team-best plus-24 rating, and has chipped in three power-play goals and one shorthanded marker as well. Brogan Rafferty, Defenseman (Coachella Valley Firebirds): A Second Team All-Star as a rookie in 2019-20, Brogan Rafferty secures his second career selection this season as he sits tied for third among AHL defensemen in scoring with 51 points in 70 games for Coachella Valley. The fourth-year pro from West Dundee, Ill., is also tied for second among blueliners with 42 assists, and ranks third among all AHL skaters with a plus/minus rating of plus-31. The Quinnipiac University product joined the Seattle Kraken as a free agent on July 13, 2022. Trey Fix-Wolansky, Forward (Cleveland Monsters): Trey Fix-Wolansky has carried the Cleveland offense all season, pacing the team with 29 goals and 41 assists in 58 games played to tie the franchise single-season record with 70 points. The 23-year-old native of Edmonton, Alta., has scored 11 times and added 19 assists with the man advantage, figuring in on the scoring of nearly half of Cleveland’s 61 power-play goals this season. Fix-Wolansky, a seventh-round pick by Columbus in the 2018 NHL Draft, has also skated in nine NHL games with the Blue Jackets in 2022-23. Tynan earns his third consecutive postseason All-Star Team selection, having recorded 71 assists and 79 points in 70 games for Ontario in 2022-23. The AHL’s MVP in both 2020-21 and 2021-22, Tynan is just the fourth player in league history to record at least 70 assists in back-to-back seasons, and will join Art Stratton (four times) as the only AHL players ever to lead the league in assists on three separate occasions. Early LIfe

Juice Wrld’s real name is Jared Anthony Higgins. He was born in Chicago  on December 2, 1998. Then Juice moved to Hollywood where he went to highschool and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 2017. Juice Wrld parents got divorced when he was 3 and his mom Carmella Wallace had to raise him and his older brother. Higgins' father died in 2019. His mother was extremely religious, and never allowed him to listen to hip hop. Juice  was heavily addicted to drugs in his teens, and started drinking lean when he was in the 6th grade. Higgins started playing the piano at 4 years old. Then later he started to do the guitar and drums  while he played the trumpet for his band class.  Juice started posting his songs to Soundcloud which he recorded on his smartphone. Early Career 

 Juice was an independent artist in 2015 when he signed a recording contract with a grade A Production company which was part owned by Lil Baby, and got his first song in 2017. He got really popular after his song ‘Lucid Dreams', a Billboard hit 2 of 100. Juice’s first album was ‘Goodbye, and Good Riddance’. Some songs in that album are Lucid Dreams, I’ll be fine, and candles. Higgins' biggest inspiration was rappers Chief Keef, Travis Scott, Kanye West, and Billy Idol. In 2019 Higgins was the winner of the Top New Artist. Many top artists started looking at his career more carefully when he started to blow up.  Some artists that  started to look at Juice  were Waka Flocka Flame and Southside. From Chicago are some top artists like Lil Baby and  G Herbo.

Later Life

 Juice Wrld is dead after he Overdosed in an airport.  Higgins was working on an album before he died. After his death in 2019 he had 4 unpublished albums but they were all ready to be released and in 2020 his first one was published one was ‘ Legends Never Die’ Juice’s  the next one  was ‘Fighting Demons’ in 2021 even though he died 2 years before that. Also people published ‘Go Hard 2.0’ and ‘Cigarettes’.  His most recent was ‘Cigarettes’ in February of 2022.Juice’s inspiration for ‘cigarettes’ was to talk about his hardships with drugs and his hardship in his romantic life . Juice Wrld was a young inspired musician working on four albums before he died.  “You found another one, but I am the better one. I won’t let you forget me.” – Juice WRLD, “Lucid Dreams'’ This talks about how he lost his love, and he believed it was the better one for her.

Martins Ferry Fostering A Roller Skating Revival

“Don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone.” Hair metal group Cinderella had a huge hit back in 1988 with a song title of those very words. Many Ohio Valley residents likely felt those lyrics deep inside when they watched the old skating rink on Wheeling Island go up in flames. The center had closed years prior, but the memories seemed to go up in smoke along with the proper. That was back in 2019. St. Clairsville’s popular skate center had long since closed and been repurposed. The last bastion of roller skating along the Ohio River, the Roller Derby in Moundsville, closed its doors in 2021. A group is attempting to reopen the derby, but as of yet, it remains closed. That left nostalgia as the remaining option of public roller skating, either that or buying a pair outright and braving the pothole-riddled roadways of many area streets. That is until Martins Ferry decided to bring it back in June when a soft opening of a new facility for skating was held at the city’s rec center. Mayor John Davies admitted then he was getting a feel for the interest level initially. It went over well. Skating took a brief hiatus but made a triumphant return on Sunday, January 22, and every Sunday thereafter. Safe to say word got out and more than a few area residents, both from the Purple City and from beyond, took advantage. “We had probably close to 200 people (last Sunday),” Davies admitted. “We went through 192 pieces of pizza. We ran out of drinks.” The best part is that was all free of charge and has been since the start. This Sunday, skating will be held from 2:15-4:30 p.m. The skating, plus the refreshments, will be free again. Donations are helping keep the refreshments free. United Dairy has donated drinks. This Sunday, DeFelice Brothers Pizza is providing six large pizzas. It seems there’s no shortage of help. “A lot of people have been donating their time which has allowed to keep it free, or relatively cheap,” Davies said. “I hate to even have to charge a dollar, but we’ll have to start fixing skates, and purchase more equipment.” More facility upgrades and an expansion of offerings are coming to the Martins Ferry Rec Center. Free No More? After this Sunday, skating will take a one-week break as the rec center is rented out. But, it will soon return. Davies said the center will eventually have to start charging to keep up with costs. But how much? Something astronomical? No. More like, a buck. “I would say in the near future we’ll probably charge a dollar per person to get in,” Davies said. “We’re going to keep it as cheap as we can. We have sponsors providing pizza, drinks, and hot dogs right now, but that won’t last forever. “If we charge a buck a person, we can recover the cost of all of the snacks and still be able to keep that free. We’ll continue it as long as we can.” When the idea to open the skate center came about, the city purchased a lot of the old equipment used at the Roller Derby in Moundsville. It provided a good bit of stock right from the start. But the equipment needs repairing, and more needs to be purchased. “We bought all the skates from the Moundsville rink, but some need repairing now and we don’t have enough for certain youth sizes, so we’ll have to buy skates and they are pretty pricey,” Davies said. “We’re going to try to recoup a little bit of the money and expand onto better things, new skates, keep adding snacks and more lighting for atmosphere.” More events are on the way. From teen dances, adults-only skates, cornhole tournaments, and Zumba classes, the rec center’s usage is greatly increasing. Davies noted that they’ve been unable thus far to find a Zumba instructor, but the facilities recently purchased 75-inch TV can stream classes sans an in-person instructor. There’s also a crochet class being held on February 18 from 10-11 a.m. Melissa Finney is running that and interested parties, of which there are many according to the Mayor, can still sign up by calling Finney at (740) 232-5728. (Photo by Mike Hudimac) Setting the Example Davies is doing what he can to improve the lives of the citizens of both Martins Ferry and beyond. He freely admits he receives plenty of help from fellow city employees and community members who are ready and willing to answer the call when asked. Most don’t even need to be asked. There's even a talented artist at the high school willing to donate her time to teach an art class at the center. With all that’s being done in Martins Ferry, Davies is unintentionally setting an example for city leadership across the Ohio Valley in how to provide for and engage with their citizenry. “I think that your leaders of these communities need to offer something to their patrons,” Davies said. “The youth are really important. They will be the leaders of the communities. We try to do a lot for them, as well as the elderly because they are the ones who built the rec center, the community.” Davies isn’t looking to compete with other towns but thinks leadership from surrounding communities can get together, work to leverage the different resources that each community has, and put its best collective foot forward. Bellaire or St. Clairsville may have resources that Ferry doesn’t, and vice versa. He feels if the towns can work together, they can offer quite a bit. He knows money can be an issue, but working together could be advantageous in that regard too. “My hope is other communities—if they can afford it because I know money is tight everywhere,” Davies said. “But we could have a get-together of mayors and leaders, and see what everyone wants to do and can offer. There are a lot of different venues and we can figure out what the different towns want to offer.” Davies and Ferry aren’t out to compete or outdo another community. If say St. Clairsville, or Bellaire, wanted to offer a specific activity or event, then Ferry could go in an opposite direction so there aren’t competing events, but complementary ones. It benefits not only the residents but the businesses in town. It’s certainly helped Ferry as it’s not just Purple residents enjoying the skating or various events put on both at the rec center and throughout town. “This is a valley-wide thing, not just for Martins Ferry. We have a lot of people, people from Barnesville, St. C., Wheeling, and Rayland coming down. We have a couple from Adena. “We’re getting people from all over, which is great.
