The Call of Jeremiah
These are the words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests in Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.
The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, and through the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, until the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
“Ah, Lord GOD,” I said, “I surely do not know how to speak, for I am only a child!”
But the LORD told me:
“Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ For to everyone I send you, you must go, and all that I command you, you must speak. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.
Then the LORD reached out His hand, touched my mouth, and said to me:
“Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. See, I have appointed you today over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and plant.”
And the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “Jeremiah, what do you see?”
“I see a branch of an almond tree,” I replied.
“You have observed correctly,” said the LORD, “for I am watching over My word to accomplish it.”
Again the word of the LORD came to me, asking, “What do you see?”
“I see a boiling pot,” I replied, “and it is tilting toward us from the north.”
Then the LORD said to me, “Disaster from the north will be poured out on all who live in the land. For I am about to summon all the clans and kingdoms of the north,” declares the LORD.
“Their kings will come and set up their thrones at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem. They will attack all her surrounding walls and all the other cities of Judah. I will pronounce My judgments against them for all their wickedness, because they have forsaken Me to burn incense to other gods and to worship the works of their own hands.
Get yourself ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them, or I will terrify you before them. Now behold, this day I have made you like a fortified city, an iron pillar, and bronze walls against the whole land—against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land. They will fight against you but will never overcome you, since I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD. — Jeremiah 1 | The Reader’s Bible (BRB) The Reader’s Bible © 2020 by Bible Hub and Berean.Bible. its so awesome when people say that historical study is useless and fake because ”history was written by the winners” like they genuinely think that historians are just like reading 2000 year old accounts from individual figures and going like ”Well he says somethings true and happened so lets publish this as verified information. we werent thought critical thinking btw”

I'm watching Dear Diary and it's amazing
Her writing self indulgent self insert fantasy when she was 12 is so relatable to 12 year old selves the world over, and it coming to life in hee real adult serious business life is beyond hilarious
Imagine you had to face your 12 year old created ocs from an old Mary Sue fic? Imagine for a moment please
Incredible.
This is incredible
Also? So lovingly made??? I love the intro with bits of her city and bits of Babylon. I love that the characters from her story are played SO genuine. Like. To do this premise I guess lovingly to the child we all were, you Have to play this genuinely. And it's so sweet, and absolutely buckwild, and such a contrast between the limitless imaginative indulgence and love we had for ourselves as children versus the serious pessimistic nature of being grounded in reality and a paycheck and survival and loneliness that adulthood can have.

There is a massive historical discourse issue when it comes to Israel-Palestine and yeah it pisses me off, firstly as a Jew, second as someone who is pursuing a degree in Jewish history.
You can see a part of it by looking at the historical narrative presented by a very popular source, DecolonizePalestine. This source has been shared widely by celebrities, by activists. It has been quoted to me on this website. It was even in the instagram bio of one of my TA's. It is considered a helpful and trustworthy source on Israel-Palestine.
The website has a Palestine 101 section, which includes this helpful module:
Tumblr media
okay lets take a look:
Tumblr media
I've never heard of the Peselet tablet, so let's do a quick google.
Tumblr media
Huh. That's weird.
There actually is a 3,000 year old Egyptian tablet (stele) that talks about the levant though.
Tumblr media
Oh no! Anyways. Lets move on:
Tumblr media
I'm sorry but how do you mention the Assyrians without mentioning that they destroyed the ancient Kingdom of Israel. And the Persians without mentioning that they allowed for the end of the Babylonian exile and the building of the second Jewish temple in Jerusalem . And the Romans without mentioning what they named their province in the levant. Judea. This is where the name "Jew" comes from. There isn't a J in Hebrew.
Tumblr media
wait the ottomans???? We already got to the Ottomans??? We just skipped literal centuries.
There's clearly a narrative being created here, not by the inclusion of historical facts, but rather the purposeful omission of historical facts. No serious scholar would be able to discuss the history of the levant and COMPLETELY LEAVE OUT THE JEWS.
This is the dominant historical narrative in discourse on Israel-Palestine and it is harmful. Not only because its untrue, but because it involves the destruction of Jewish history and the right of Jews to steward our own history.
Where we come from is and has always been a huge part of Jewish identity. I cannot stress this enough. It is wrong and yes, it is antisemitic to warp and erase Jewish history for your own political purposes.
and here's what gets me: it is completely unnecessary.
You can recognize all the horrors that the zionist movement and Israel has inflicted upon Palestinians without denying Jewish history. You can demand Israel take accountability and stop what it is doing without denying Jewish history. You can advocate for Palestinian freedom, statehood and self determination, without denying Jewish history.
But people don't want to *just* do that. In the minds of many, the only acceptable Free Palestine is a Palestine Free of Jews or Jewish autonomy.
And for that, fuck you. Palestinians are indigenous to the levant. They know their history and where they come from. Jews are indigenous to the levant. We know our history and where we come from.
No one is going anywhere.
Be better.
Free Palestine and Am Yisrael Chai.

before you talk to Christians about texts or events "predating" Christianity, you need to understand that Christians do not view our religion as beginning with the incarnation of Christ. Christians view our religion as beginning with Adam & Eve, continuing with Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, etc., all to foreshadow Christ.
We believe the Old Testament is AS IMPORTANT to the Christian faith as the New Testament. We do not see them as separate stories, they are together telling the same story. We don't view the Old Testament as "the Jewish part" and the New Testament as "the Christian part." To the Christian, the story of the Exodus is a Christian story. To the Christian, the story of the Babylonian Exile is a Christian story.
Christianity is entirely about continuity. The covenant God made with Abraham is fulfilled in the covenant Christ made with us.
