Fuck thought about the clay highwayman story and Jamie and got emotional again

Just with how Jamie's whole thing is putting on an act, a performance, always in day to day life. Pretending to be whatever they think would be responded to, of what they think would fit.

And how during that story they are *literarly* pretending to be someone they are not, of acting a part. And that the highwayman saw through that act the entire time, engaged knowingly. And how with the further metaphor, of being someone who saw through Jamie's act; saw through the bravado and the honeyed words and *saw them*.

And Jamie couldn't keep that. Just that once. Even then, that was taken out of their control.
