[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [PART 4] [Part 5] [Part 6] [Part 7] [Don’t Let it Reach the Heart]
Part 4 is finally here!! The last few months got so busy, but I would be lying if i said i didn't spend almost every day daydreaming about/ wishing i could be working on this instead; this project has been such a fun break from work and i feel like each part makes me crazier and crazier as things gets worse and worse (better and better) LOL. The composition has been sooo fun to play with, and I've been having a blast trying to figure out how to write these guys in character despite the angst and chaos :] And, considering this comic project kinda came out of nowhere and disrupted some other comic plans i had for dbhc, finding little ways to rearrange how i'm presenting lore has been really fun >:3
[This comic is part of my dbhc au, following the chaos and panic that ensues after Doc and Xisuma try to get Etho back online at the start of s9 after a very rough s8 finale that leaves him a little. broken. It's set to the vibes of Joywave's Destruction!]

Word Count: 1.6k
next pt
Apocalypse had chosen the perfect moment to strike, the X-Men still mourning Gambit's death. You were still shaken up about it, though it had happened months ago. You loved him, you really loved him. Even if you never let anyone but him know. You stood up from the blast, dusting yourself off till you're frozen, hearing a voice behind you.
"Cher...?" You heard, a raspy of remnant of something from your past. It wasn't him. It couldn't be. You turned to look for Remy, but you were met with something... ghoulish.
"Y-... you're not him." You say, voice strained as you look at the creature that stood there, stolen Remy's voice to fool you. The silvery skinned man smirked. He wore Remy's jacket, his fucking jacket, he had his voice, a dark deck of cards in one hand and a baton in the other. This had to be some kind of trick, an illusion, anything but real.
"Oh, but Gambit is him, petit..." The ash covered man walked towards you, his white hair covering his blackened eyes. Even his walk, his mannerisms, they were Remy's. But he was dead, Remy Lebeau was dead. You watched his casket get put in the ground, there was no way this was your lost love.
You backed away as he stood in front of you, looking down with pink glowing eyes as he put the deck of cards in the inner pocket of his jacket. He went to place his bone-y, gaunt hand on your cheek, being met with a quick swat as you took another step back.
"N-no, you're not! Wh-what are you?!" You yelled out, tears swelling in your eyes as you yelled at the thing in front of you, mocking you, mimicking the man you loved, the man you watched die.
This Remy chuckles, a sound that would normally make your heart swell with love, but this... this was dark, something evil behind it. You know if this was really Remy, he'd never hurt you, but you couldn't help the chills that made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. He grabs your wrist, pulling you close.
"Gambit's 'Death', baby..." He starts, another low chuckle coming from his lips, "But he remembers you, cher. You're mine, remember?" These words, they brought a memory that shook you to your core.
"Cher, what are you doing?" Remy spoke softly, watching you walk into his room at the mansion. He laughed at the sight of you, your face flushed as you took off your jacket. "Ya gonna answer ol' Remy or nah?"
"I'm tired. I want... to be held." You murmur, laying on the bed next to him, quick to get his attention away from whatever he was doing before. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling the covers over you and placing you between his arm, flush against his bare chest.
You both laid there in silence, breathing synced up as he caged you in his arms, head nuzzling your neck, his stubble tickling your skin. "You're okay, mon amour... You're here, you're... mine."
You tried pulling back, the walking corpse in front of you growling lowly. "Don't ya dare fight my hold on you." His voice hissed, strong hand gripping your wrist so hard it made you gasp in pain, the tears finally falling from your eyes.
There's a shocked look on his face, grip loosening ever so slightly as he watches you closely. You notice something slight, something that reminded you of the Remy before. "P-please..." you cry out softly, "Lemme go, Rem."
This upset him, but it also made him smile as you finally acknowledge he's really who he says he is. "I don't think I will, cher..." He turns you around, placing an arm across your middle to hold you against him, other hand still tight on your wrist. "I ain't gonna leave you again. And yer not leavin' me, ya hear?"
The gaunt hand holding your wrist lets go, traveling up your arm, up your neck before finally resting on your chin, holding it softly, thumb caressing your cheek. You can't help but shiver. This causes Remy to laugh again, nuzzling into your skin. "Why are ya afraid of lil ol' me, petit? I ain't gonna hurtcha..."
"Y-you're not?" You ask, voice hoarse and breathy. You smile nervously, leaning your head back against his chest to try and show him you want to trust him. You swallow hard as he sits up, setting his chin on the top of your head.
"Of course not, cher. Why would Gambit do that to ya?" He says softly, eyes looking around at the make shift battlefield that used to be the X Mansion, pointing his baton at your teammates as they fight in the distance. "Looks like they've forgotten you, amour."
Your eyes widen as you realize what he means. It wasn't just that they'd forgotten you, you knew this wasn't true, but that they were fighting without you. They hadn't even bothered to look for you. "No, they... they need me-" You go to walk forwards but his arm around your middle brings you back flush against him.
"No they don't. I do." He growls out, his hand on your chin turning your gaze up to him. "I said it already. We ain't leavin' each other again, yer coming with me." His eyes glow, staring down at you as his grip around you tightens even more.
Your eyes widen "With you? What are you-" You're cut off by his hand on your chin covering you mouth, Remy shushing you softly. Before you can protest, you feel his baton snap to your neck, hitting a pressure point and causing you to pass out.
"Cher? Cher, wake up, please..." You heard, the cold sting of the metal table in the medical bay pressed against your back.
"Remy?" you said weakly, feeling his hands move from your own to your face, pulling you flush against his chest, a tear falling from his eyes. "What's wrong? W-what happened?" You ask, unable to remember the fight from before.
"You got hurt, bad, petit... Gambit though he was gonna lose ya fo' a moment..." He says softly, nuzzling into your skin, his warm touch against your cold skin sending chills up and down your body. It was nice, being in his arms, but in this situation? It felt live a saving grace.
You woke up, your vision blurred and and the sounds around you muffled under a sharp ringing in your ears. You can't move, the small amount you can making your realize you're tied down, laid against the corner of two walls. You try to focus on the voices, eyes closing.
"You brought an X-Man here?! Are you fucking stupid?!" An unfamiliar voice says, angry.
"It's not just any X-Man, it's... my cher..." Remy says, voice breaking slightly. After a second you hear him scream out in pain, causing you to wake up fully, your eyes wide as you look in the direction.
"Weak... he shouldn't even be able to remember his life before becoming Death!" You see the tall, menacing Apocalypse, his arm turning from some kind of taser to his normal hand. He looks over at you, eyes widening as he sees your awake. "What a surprise, though..." He takes a step towards you.
"N-no, don't!" You say, backing yourself against the corner as the towering monster stands a few feet in front of you. You scream out as he grabs you, taking you across the room and throwing you down once again. You hear a click as something snaps around your neck. Your binds are taken off just to be replaced with the same metal that adorns your neck, pressing you flat against whatever surface you're on.
Your eyes look back at Remy as he stands up, face full of defeat as he looks at Apocalypse. "Sir, I'm sorry-" He starts, cutting himself off as the man looks at him. He backs away, lowering his head. You still can't believe it, Remy's alive, but... not himself, working for Apocalypse.
"Well, now that we have an X-Man... why don't we celebrate? This means we won the fight." The tall, broad creature known as Apocalypse says, voice dark with intent. He looks down at you, a grim smile on his face as he speaks again, "Don't try to do anything, mutant. Your powers are useless with the bindings you're in. If you do, however, there will be punishment."
You don't want to test his words, nodding quickly. Your fear and submission causes the man to laugh, clearly entertained that you're so quick to listen. "It seems Gambit has picked the perfect hostage." Apocalypse chuckles, turning his back to you as he addresses the others in the room. "That does not mean I am not disappointed, though, feeble mutant."
He walks up to Remy, who sits up, eyes shaking as he looks up at the taller man. In a swift movement, Apocalypse grabs him by the throat, causing you to yell out. He brings Remy to eye level before speaking, "If you were not needed for the unstoppable force of the Apocalypse, you'd be dead by my hand. Do you understand, mutant?"
Remy nods, closing his eyes as the other man drops him. You stare at him as he lands on his knees, not fighting back. It was strange to see him so... weak, submitting to the orders of terrible force. It was frightening, even. Remy opened his eyes and looked up at Apocalypse, "Yes, sir."
His voice was just as weak as he looked next to Apocalypse. You could tell by the ways his eyes shifted that he was biting back an insult or some smart alack response. That was until they met yours again, all of the pain in them leaving and being replaced with something much more positive. A love that you'd seen many times before, making you sure that this was in fact your Remy.

𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 - 𝗼.𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗹𝗹𝗲
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: yn is a well known tattoo artist, and mapi happens to be her most frequent customer and avid gossiper.
𖦹 masterlist
"𝗠𝗔𝗣𝗜! 𝗠𝗬 𝗙𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘 living canvas!" i yell out to my favourite customer as she walks into the studio.
"yn! my favourite tattoo artist!" i laugh at her antics. "mapi, i'm you're only tattoo artist. you don't let anyone else near your skin." she poked her tongue out at me and sat in the chair.
"so what are we doing?" mapi pulled her phone out and showed me a sketch that i knew she'd been wanting for a while. while i was getting my products out and cleaning everything, mapi was talking about the latest news with her team, barcelona. "we signed a new player, she's from manchester united."
i knew what mapi was talking about already and i knew the player that had transferred. it was my girlfriend, ona batlle. i was over the moon when she'd told me she was moving clubs to come over to barcelona. owning a tattoo studio doesn't require me to travel a lot so it was mostly long distance, but we made it work.
we face timed and called when we could and texted often. i knew most of her now-teammates through my work, especially mapi. she was my most frequent customer and probably one of my closest friends.
her girlfriend, ingrid, would come along to some of her sessions sometimes and we'd chat while mapi was practically half asleep in the chair. i had also done work with players like alexia putellas, patri guijarro and of course, ona but they didn't know that.
"we played our most recent game with her and she's actually pretty good." mapi was still talking about ona and i sat with a smile while i worked, glad to hear praise for my girlfriend's soccer skills. "i hear she has a girlfriend." that bit caught my attention. "how do you know?" a grin was plastered on my face at her words.
"she has a vibe, a feeling that she's happy with life. i don't know, i just hear things from the girls." it was comical really, how right they were, but i definitely wasn't going to say anything.
we spend about two hours there, me working on mapi's tattoo and mapi talking my ear off about anything and everything. when i'm done, i clean off the excess ink and spread some gel on it before mapi is up and bounding over to the mirror to see her latest artwork.
we finished up and mapi handed me the cash she'd gotten for today. i thanked her and she was on her way. when i closed up for the day i called ona, something we do regularly now that she's in barcelona with me. "hola mi cariño." (hello my darling.)
"hola mi amor. how was training?" (hello my love.)
"bien, (okay) it was just the normal. although the girls kept talking about how they think i have a girlfriend." i laughed at that, it was the same thing mapi had told me about when she was with me. before she went to training.
"they aren't wrong." i laughed. "mapi told me about that today. she said there's rumours your dating someone." we just laugh together at that. it's not like we are trying to hide our relationship from our friends, they just haven't figured it out yet. and when ona was at manchester i would fly over to her, so it wasn't as obvious.
"did you want to go out after? we can go to your favourite cafe?" ona offered.
"por favor, amor. i need to spend time with just you." (please, love.)
we agreed and ona said she'd pick me up from mine in an hour. i lived by myself in an apartment not too far away from the studio. ona tended to hop between living with me and one of her teammates since she's been in barça. i was honestly surprised that none of them have caught on when she wasn't living with them.
as promised, ona picks me up and we drive out to the cafe. it was small and slightly secluded with some tables scattered through the front and down the side.
it was such a pretty place and had the best food i'd ever tasted, i loved it so much. we enjoyed our time together and shared some food before we had to head out. what i didn't expect when we walked out was mapi, waiting, with a semi-tired ingrid in tow.
"i knew it! i knew she was dating someone!" she was almost yelling and had completely shocked both ona and i.
"maria leon! what are you doing?" i used her real name, that got her attention. "lo siento, (sorry) i knew you knew something when i told you during our tattoo session. normally you are all over gossip with the girls, but today you seemed like you already knew about it. it just made me think-" i smiled at how mapi was rambling about how she knew about us. i looked down at ona and she was already grinning at our friend. "-about how happy ona seemed and how you are and-"
"mapi, it's okay. we don't care if people find out about us." mapi stopped talking and looked at us before breaking into a grin. "sorry, thankyou. i think you guys are cute."
we all ended up laughing together, even ingrid who looked like she needed a nap. after we'd caught up mapi and ingrid left to go to their place, while ona went to mine with me. "i guess the rumours were true, onita." i grinned over at her from the passenger seat. she was grinning back at me before responding.
"shut up, amor." (love.) then; "i want you to tattoo me again."

BURROW FAMILY
Tumblr media
The knife was dropped on the wooden board with force, she sighed tiredly, squeezed her eyes tightly, wondering if that was really real, but the crying on the second floor and the baby monitor confirmed it.
Amanda washed her hands, leaving the unfinished dinner in the kitchen and hurriedly went upstairs with her strategic spare bottle.
Only then did she realize that she might have hurt her fingers with the knife, she quickly looked at her hand and saw that there was no blood, so he was probably fine. She arrived at her youngest son's room with his little brother.
-Peter, come see what the fuss is about, you're being a good big brother. She smiled at the boy who hurried to find a toy for his little brother to try to calm down.
-Mommy, why is this boy crying so much?It was the firstborn's turn to appear, as always, complaining.
-I don't know, honey, but since you're already 9 years old, how about helping Mommy and doing some research on Google? She suggests, picking up the baby and trying to make him stop.
-He's annoying. - The boy walks away, returning to his room.
-Okay, Gunner, your brother loves you too. - She sighs, trying to make the youngest one take the bottle at once.
-Mommy, why does he always drink milk with that powder? - Gunner takes the opportunity to ask, and only then does Amanda realize that she needs to shake the bottle more since all the powder has settled at the bottom.
-Your brother is sick, and the more he drinks this, the better he gets - she tries to explain.
Dealing with everyone's curiosity has been difficult, she doesn't know how to say it.
-Ash, honey, can you get your brother's blanket for me? I think he's cold. - Amanda calls to the girl, who appeared at the bedroom door with a doll and some of her jewelry hanging from her neck and ears.
-You look so pretty, my love.- Amanda is surprised by the girl's face smeared with mascara and her expensive lipstick.
-If he were a girl, I would get him, but he's a boy, boys are silly. - She leaves, stomping her foot.
Amanda sighs. The only time everyone decides to be disobedient is when she's holding him in her arms. The older ones are jealous of the younger one, and rightly so. For over a year, they haven't talked about anything else except what Ben is feeling, what Ben needs, if Ben went to the doctor, how Ben woke up. Ever since the complications started, even before he was born, the children started to rebel.
Gunner stays quiet in his room, plays the little his father allows him, studies and is responsible for teasing everyone. On rare occasions, he manages to hug his parents and siblings and live normally. Ashley, at 7 years old, is leaving her princess phase and entering what she calls her diva era. Now the girl alternates between ripping her dolls' clothes and going to her mother's closet to try to grab something within her reach, which rarely happens, leaving only the makeup on the sink, which Amanda still doesn't know how to get to. Peter always appears when the subject is his younger brother. Amanda thought he felt some special closeness, since he was barely three years old. That is until she discovered that he was just desperately trying to shut up his younger brother, so he could go back to the comics that he doesn't understand at all. He just laughs at the pictures and then throws them away. -Gunner, can you get your brother's blanket for me? - Amanda goes to the door to make it easier for him to hear her, without taking Ben's bottle away. She knows what's going to happen.
-I can't, I'm watching a live stream - The boy shouts, irritating Amanda.
-Of course, because the live stream is more important than helping your mother cover your cold brother - She snorts tiredly.
-That's right -The boy retorts.
Ben ended up spitting out the milk, making her quickly pull the bottle away and do some juggling to make sure he didn't choke or drop the bottle.
Only then did she realize something: his skin, despite the goosebumps, was hot, which could only mean one thing: another fever.
After the chaos of the afternoon, Joe came home from training at night, when everything was under control, Peter was calmly watching TV, Ash had taken a shower and had his hair properly combed, Gunner was in a good mood, since he found a candy in the fridge, and not forgetting Ben who, after a call with the pediatrician, managed to control Amanda's fever without needing medication.
-How did they behave today, General? -Joe salutes Amanda.
-Gunner was the worst, I think you need to have a little talk with him, Ash continues to act like daddy’s little princess and Peter, thank God, I only hear his laughter when he’s watching comics or TV. - She explains, finishing collecting the children’s plates, while Gunner helps to tidy everything up.
Joe signals for her to come closer, stealing a kiss and earning a grimace from her.
-How’s Ben? He asks quietly, already aware of the commotion that occurs when someone asks about the boy.
-He has a little fever. She also speaks quietly, glancing back. Gunner is distracted, putting everything in the dishwasher.
-I’m going to take a shower and see how he’s doing. - Joe approaches to try to hug her, but Amanda is quick to pull away.
He just scratched the back of his neck, not knowing what to do. It's not the first time she's run away from him or acted harshly. He knows that everything has been difficult, but he doesn't know how to help solve everything, whether it's the children's mood, Ben's health or their marriage.
The truth is that Amanda has always been rational and practical, unlike Joe, who was too sentimental and romantic. The last time he saw his wife guided by passion and emotion was when he proposed to her and it didn't take long for them to get married.
Ben sleeps like an angel in his crib. Joe took the opportunity to gently caress his little hand.
Eating in silence has become a routine. Amanda insists that the children eat early so they can go to bed early, which gives Joe little time with them. He only spends his free time when he tries to do something with everyone. Most nights are like this, with him at an empty table, Amanda on the phone eating a salad.
-How long are you going to follow this crazy diet? He starts a conversation.
-It's healthy, I'll follow it until the nutritionist changes it. -She answers without looking at him.
-I said I just wanted to get your body back, you're already much thinner than before...Joe is cut off.
-That's your opinion. She ends the subject.
Joe simply doesn't see any way to talk to her.
-I only care if you're healthy.
-She's trained to tell me to eat things that will make me healthy, so yes. - Joe decides to change the subject.
-Did you see that the new season of Ru Paul is coming out?
-So what? She continues to ignore him.
-Well, we always watched it at night and... Joe is cut off again.
-I don’t have time for this. - She quickly gets up.
In a few minutes, she washed what was in front of her, put some things away and went upstairs completely automatically. Watching the drag show was their time to relax, laugh, cry, but do something that was definitely just theirs. But since the problems with Ben, it was yet another thing that had changed.
The next night, after a busy day, the children’s dinner is too chaotic.
-It’s your fault he’s a boy, I don’t like you. -Ash pouts and turns his face to Amanda, who takes a deep breath.
-Honey, I’m going to teach you something called biology, okay, remember that. If your brother is a boy, it’s your father’s fault. - Amanda smiles at the girl.
Ash went from angry to confused in minutes, her face changed, the girl felt betrayed by her father, in a jump she jumped out of the chair and started running and screaming around the house.
-I hate you, daddy
The phrase echoes in every corner, while she spins from one side to the other until Joe arrives and hears that.
-Why does daddy's little princess hate me? He asks the girl offended.
The girl with blond curls stamped her foot and was firm.
-Ben is a boy and it's your fault, I hate you, mommy told me everything - She says indignantly.
Joe had to hold himself back from laughing at her trying to confront him.
-Don't be like that, we can give you a little sister
-Can you? She seems to calm down.
-Yes, mommy doesn't want one -Joe finishes.
At the same time, Ashley went to Amanda who holds herself back from cursing Joe.
-Mommy, I want a little sister. Her name will be Jasmine. She has to be a redhead. The girl demands.
-That's great, honey. We have two options: we adopt or your dad finds another mother for your sister. What do you think? - Amanda responds, irritated by the subject.
Ashley blinks slowly, thinking about what she heard. Meanwhile, Joe is busy messing up Peter's hair, who is trying to finish eating.
Ashley quickly opens her mouth and starts to cry. The girl's face turns red. She tilts her head back and her mouth is wide open, intensifying her crying.
-Daughter, you don't have to cry about this - Amanda asks.
-Ben cries all the time for nothing. I have a reason. - She says with some difficulty.
Amanda gets up, going to the fridge and getting a
-Stop crying, eat some chocolate, you love chocolate - The girl slaps her hand.
-Ash, mommy was playing - Joe tries to explain, only then does Amanda realize why she is crying.
-I hate you, you're going to find us another mommy and you didn't give me a sister -She says again.
Joe sighs heavily, sitting on the floor to be closer to her.
-Ashley, your mommy was playing with you, you don't have another mommy and you can't control whether your siblings are boys or girls, we all know that Gunner would look much better in a dress and a bow - Joe jokes, earning a grimace from the older boy.
-Promise me you won't have another mommy? - She wipes her face, looking at him with fear awaiting his answer.
-I promise
But Ashley didn't believe it.
When she understood the reason for her crying, Amanda thought about divorce for the first time. That gave her two thoughts: the first was what her life would be like without Joe, and the second was how difficult it would be for them.
Joe and Amanda had to go to Ashley's room together to put her to bed, since she was still scared.
-You don't have to think about those things, you hear me? - Amanda said to the girl sitting on the bed, her eyes still red.
-Do you promise? - She asked. Amanda could hear the fear in the girl's voice.
She didn't know how to answer that, or maybe she just didn't have the strength to do so. She decided to hug her.
-I love you.Amanda kissed her forehead, and she smiled shyly.
-I took your Snow White blanket, I don't want to see Daddy's little princess crying over nothing anymore. Joe appears, opens the blanket and covers her, leaving a kiss on her cheek just as an excuse to tickle her.
He then hugs Amanda's neck, who is sitting on the edge of the bed.
-I want you to know that Daddy loves Mommy and won't leave her and she won't leave me either, because we love each other, we've known each other since Peter was old and I've always been proudly her soulmate and she's mine, soulmates don't live apart, because if they do they get so sad that they end up dying, you know?  Joe questions the girl who denies it.
-So you can never be apart - The girl deduces.
-That’s right, if not, daddy will die of sadness, I love your mother so much, that’s why, daughter, don’t worry, I’ll never leave her, you hear me?  Joe’s words, while he rocks her in this boat, seem to run through her mind.
-Isn’t that right, honey? He asks her.
-Yeah - Amanda agrees, a little out of it.
Ashley went to sleep peacefully, while Amanda and Joe are still confused.
-I shouldn’t have said that, she’ll keep bugging me - Amanda reminds him.
-It’ll be nice to have another girl.
-Joe, I don’t want any more children, I think we’ve had enough a long time ago, especially after Ben, I can’t bear to go through that again. Amanda is sincere, leaving her cream on the sink and looking at him.
-Okay, no problem, I just imagined it, it was really hard for all of us, I know it’s been even harder for you. He agrees.
-We all suffered equally, the children felt it, you felt it, Ben felt it - She states, she hates the narrative of being weak or showing how much it affected her regardless of the situation.
-That’s why I thought about a surrogate mother, she’ll have our DNA, but someone else will have the child - Joe replies.
Amanda stopped everything she was doing.
-You understand that I said I don’t want any more children, it’s not just that part, it involves raising the child too.
-And Ashley, she’ll grow up in a house with so many boys, with no one to play with, to keep her company, that’s horrible, even more so when there are going to be three boys, I had brothers and you did, you know how important and good it is.
-Exactly, she already has brothers, they’ll be great company for her - Amanda insists.
-I just think we can talk about it later, calmly, think about the idea, it’s just an idea.
Amanda just ignored him.
-We have a big, happy family. Another child would be welcomed and loved, I'm sure. - Just like Ben? She asks him as she leaves the bathroom. -It's just siblings' annoyance. Tell me, whether your siblings are younger or older, they've never said they hate you? - Joe asks her. -We have plenty of rooms in the house. We have space, we have time, we have money, we're young and we have love to give. What's the problem? - Joe sits down next to Amanda on the bed, making it impossible for her to lie down and ignore him. -Have you ever thought about what would happen if our marriage ended? She asks him impulsively. Joe's eyes widened. -It wouldn't be fair to them. The room quickly became agitated. -Why should I think about that? It doesn't make any sense. - He stares at her.
-This divorce thing doesn't exist, you heard me, it doesn't exist, forget what Ashley said, my love, she was just scared, there's no reason to think about it - he gave a weak smile and got up.
But the following days were strange, especially for Joe.
He woke up in the middle of the night, with her fiddling with something, he threw the blanket aside, seeing Amanda already with a bag.
-What's wrong? He sighs trying to wake up.
-Ben has a high fever, I'm going to take him to the doctor - she says, going to the door to leave the room.
Joe gets up quickly.
-Wait a minute, I'll go with you
Amanda huffs irritably, turning to her husband.
-There's no point in both of you going, if I'm already going, stay home - Amanda leaves the room slamming the door.
Joe ran his hands through his hair, not knowing what else to do. The hours passed and he couldn't sleep a wink. He went to check if the others were okay. He called Amanda to try to find out something, but the calls ended. He went to the living room, where he didn't notice what time he ended up hanging up.
In the morning, he woke up to the excitement of the children. Seeing that she had arrived, Peter went to him on the couch to give his father a little hug. Joe decided to go see Ben, who was awake and a little agitated, since he was now eight months old and learning to crawl. That's why the bedroom door had gained extra protection.
He decided to go get ready, since he had training and had no excuse not to go, but when he got to the kitchen, he decided to rethink things.
-You know, I think we should hire a nanny. It would be good to have someone who can always be around, sharing the work. If I could, you know, I would spend the day here with you, but... - He gives the idea when he sees Amanda with her eyes a little purple, probably from tiredness.
-Do you think I’m so incapable that I can’t take care of them? She takes it as a provocation.
-I think everyone needs to help to make things easier, I can see that all of this has been heavy for you and I don’t want you to be overwhelmed with any of this, I don’t know if you don’t want a babysitter, we can call my parents, your parents, I don’t think they’ll mind spending time with their grandchildren - Joe tries to fix it.
-They’re our responsibility, I can’t make other people come here, put their lives on hold, because of our decisions, that’s ridiculous - Joe realizes that the conversation isn’t going to get anywhere.
-I think the night was hectic, I’m going to take the kids to class, who wants to go to class with daddy? - He gets their attention and they quickly perk up.
-Joe, go to your training, you're going to be late, you know I take them every day - Amanda asks.
-You know I'm not late, I'll take them and go straight to training, in the meantime you stay here with Peter and Ben - Joe tries to change the routine, seeing that she's not in the best shape to drive by the tired look on her face.
Joe went upstairs, going to get his training equipment and when he came back to his surprise, they had already left.
Amanda didn't need much to realize that it really wasn't the best option to drive, right now with the sun still weak at 7 in the morning and everything too still, but luckily everyone arrived safely, she took the opportunity to stop at a coffee shop and get a coffee to try to stay awake, but it was definitely not the best idea.
They have known each other forever, their parents are friends. After so many years as inseparable friends in their teens, their neighbors, friends, uncles and brothers started saying that they would end up getting married and that in fact, they had always been in love with each other, which made them both very stressed.
They did the same thing when they were 15, they started pretending to hate each other and getting involved with other people to shut everyone up, until they were 17 and Joe said he was going to move to the capital. There was no way to put it off and just accept it. They really liked each other a lot. They didn't date for long, until they decided to get married and give in to their love.
-Well, now that the kids are getting older, you must be dying to start living your own life, right? You were so young when you decided to get married, you were only 18 - A neighbor of Joe's parents was there.
-Now you can have a nanny or put them in various complementary activities and you can have a hobby, maybe even a job, but I think that with your age and lack of experience, it will be difficult
Amanda felt the glass start to warm her hand, she just watched the lady more like a robot.
-You know, you need to live individually, like something that is only yours, he must love having total control over you, even financially, but that will not be good for your future
The words run through Amanda's already empty and silent mind, who just wanted to sleep.
-Being a trophy wife is amazing, but what comes next? Everyone always criticizes feminists, but if they get divorced, they will have a good structure to start over and normally, they do not hide completely behind the man, they usually have a voice
-Amanda dear, I think you need to start living your life and think about yourself a little" the worried tone makes her wake up.
-Thank you. She said and left in a hurry.
The conversation kept popping in her mind all day, leaving her distracted from everything. She finally began to ask herself what she likes and what she doesn't like. She doesn't know if she likes swimming, running, playing tennis, she doesn't know if she prefers comedy, cooking, horror shows, she doesn't know if she really likes the clothes in her closet or if they're just what she bought because they were appropriate for a mother.
And it was in the midst of so many thoughts and sleep that she didn't notice Peter climbing over the pool railing, she ran to the boy before he ended up hurting himself and falling, either on the floor or in the water.
-Peter, what did I say? It's to sunbathe. You two need to sunbathe, nothing more. She said harshly, returning the boy to the lounge chair.
The afternoon passed and with it the beginning of the night. Amanda began to feel something strange. She walked around the house, lost, without knowing where the feeling came from, until a flash in her mind made her forget Gunner and Ashley at school.
For the first time, Gunner preferred to stay quiet and silent. He didn't want to distract his mother from driving, not after she ran a red light and drove the wrong way.
Joe was informed of what had happened and decided to make a decision.
-Amanda, I'm going to the pharmacy. Do you need anything? He watched her but was speechless.
Since the answer in action was to crack an egg in the sink instead of in the frying pan on the stove.
Joe only needed one thing, a sleeping pill good enough to keep her out for the next few hours.
He poured it into her glass without her seeing and waited for her to drink it.
The medicine didn't take long to take effect, with Amanda passing out in the living room, he cautiously went upstairs with her in his arms and took care of the rest, including something she would hate.
She woke up the next day without knowing where she was, but for the first time in a long time, rested, she looked at the clock and got scared, but Joe tried to calm her down.
-I've already taken care of everything, I'm almost going to training, but first I need to talk to you - He asked.
Amanda just agreed, still dazed, running her hand over her face to try to truly wake up.
-Yesterday you almost crashed the car with you, Ashley and Gunner countless times, that's because I don't know what happened in the morning, if you don't want to accept help from anyone with a good heart, you're going to have to be forced
-Because I can't believe you think it's normal, to forget them at school two hours late or to drive out of control or to let a frying pan catch fire, while the food ends up in the sink, just for pride, who told you that you need to handle everything by yourself and that no one can ever help you? He questions her.
-I never said that, I had suggested a babysitter, but now we're going to do it differently, you have a week, either to talk to your parents, my parents, your brothers to come here or to choose a babysitter, if you keep putting your foot down and insisting on this madness, I'll go after the babysitter myself and make my rules with her - Amanda just listens.
-You're not taking care of anyone by doing this, you're putting everyone at risk, especially yourself. It won't kill you to let me spend the night with Ben. It also won't kill you if I take them to school sometimes. It seems like you don't like me being around them. Sometimes it seems like I'm your enemy. - Joe doesn't hide his discontent.
-I was trying to help you, but now I'm going to do it by force. I hid the car keys. You won't drive until you seem ready to do it. He warns.
-This is ridiculous. A lot happened yesterday. I'm fine now. Amanda defends herself.
-No, you're not. You need to rest your mind and body. You're not even eating because you're so determined that you need to lose too much weight. I found out that you haven't been to that nutritionist in months." Amanda is surprised.
-I don't know if you remember, but part of marriage is taking care of each other - he walks to the door.
-If you want to take a week's vacation somewhere, alone, take a friend, I don't know, go ahead, feel free, I just need you to rest and be well. He smiles as he leaves the room.
Joe and Amanda's wedding anniversary arrived and he made sure to celebrate by taking her out to dinner.
The waiter quickly grabbed a vase to decorate the table with flowers and left the menu with the two of them, Joe chattering the whole time, until Amanda had the courage to tell him everything she was feeling.
-Why didn't you tell me this before, we could have worked it out - he reminds her.
-I've been thinking a lot and I think it's good to have talked about it. Now I need some time for myself, without a shadow of a doubt, and I really think that our marriage is no longer a marriage. You know, I think we can separate and continue living in the same house, but living separately at first, so the children don't think it's so bad, and when they're older we can move out. I don't want it to be traumatic for them. Joe immediately cuts her off, surprised by what she said.
-Have you gone crazy? Are you saying you want to get a divorce on our 10th anniversary? I found out a few minutes ago what you were feeling, after I tried all kinds of approaches and only received your kicks and rudeness, and now you want me to applaud your request for divorce. Listen here, drink this wine, pull yourself together, no one here is going to get separated, they won't go through that, neither will you and I. - Joe turns the glass over, quickly filling another one and turning it over again.
-I need to find myself Joe, I need to find out what I like, what I want - He cuts me off again.
-You're in front of me talking crazy, I think you need therapy to figure that out, I think you need a spa too and a trip to calm down, you can spend a week, two, three, a month, if you want even a year getting to know the world, I'll take care of the kids, if you want to go back to see them that's fine, but we're not going to break up, there's no reason for that, I love you, you love me, you just need some time, if you want to open a store, open it, do whatever you want, it's okay, but we're not getting divorced - Joe says, visibly shaken by what he heard.
-Do you think this will help? - She doubts.
-I'll prove it will - He picks up the box with a gift for her, but stops halfway, putting his hand under his head, visibly shaken.
-Amanda, please don’t leave me, don’t kill me with the knife in our kitchen, I love you so much, I don’t know how to live without you, I don’t know how to describe how important you are to me, if I got where I am, it was because you were with me, supporting me and scolding me whenever I did something wrong on or off the field, if I don’t have you, I’m nothing, I won’t be able to live the rest of my life thinking that I lost you, don’t do this to me - Joe tries to control the tears on his face, since they are in public.
When a week passed and she hadn’t made any decision, when she arrived in Ben’s room after waking up, she came across her parents and sister.
Joe certainly didn’t want to offend her so much as to choose a nanny, but that surprised her.
The day was different, it was certainly good for Amanda, but at the same time reflective, her parents wanted to go pick up Gunner and Ashley, then buy some snacks on the way and spend some time with their grandchildren, while Amanda and Jade, her sister, were chatting with a huge tub of ice cream.
-I think our marriage is in crisis - She laments taking a good spoonful of ice cream.
-Marriage in crisis? Have you looked at Joseph? A marriage with him doesn't go into crisis - Her sister jokes.
-One day I was 18, I was excited to get married and I loved playing basketball, watching comedy series, learning French and the next day I suddenly wake up, I realize I have four children, a husband, I feel like I'm in a nightmare, I ask myself what I did in these ten years, what I really wanted, what was a dream and I see that nothing - Amanda vents.
-You need to take a vacation, go out, enjoy life a little, you have to know how to balance everything, just because you're married and have a ton of kids, doesn't mean you're dead and that's all it is, the worst kind of woman is the one who is limited to being a mother or a wife and no offense, you let yourself be limited to that Amanda agrees.
-That's always been my biggest fear, I love them, but I feel like I'm losing myself and wasting time, I could be experiencing so many things, but I preferred to stay locked up here
-The society we were born into makes us believe that this is the only good destiny for us women, you and all of us were raised to believe this, it's not your fault and you shouldn't feel guilty about wanting to experience different things
-Of course you have your day to day, but you can do something with the kids and then something with Joe and then the two of you can do something alone, it's good for each of you to have different things to do - Jade gives an idea.
-The problem is that I feel like I've lost my individuality and I don't know if I want to stay here, I don't know if I'll be able to just be myself and be comfortable with him - Amanda has some difficulty speaking.
-What do you mean? Jade's eyes widen.
-I stopped my life to do everything he wanted, I don't know if I know how to do anything beyond that, what he wants, I think I'm too weak, I should never have agreed to get married so early, I should have sorted out my life, done something I liked or at least failed trying, instead of letting everything get to this point - She laments.
-Listen here, you two really need to talk about this, but above all you need some time just for yourselves and to discover yourself, even if it means going to therapy, I'm going to stay here for a few days, Joe invited me and dad and mom too, so we'll help you, I'm sure, but don't give up, you don't need to give up your marriage to discover yourself, it can be very important for you to do this by giving you support and encouraging you - the two stand up and hug each other tightly.
The days were certainly calmer and the first thing their parents did was remind Joe and Amanda of the huge table they have, but they don't use it often. They end up sitting at the counter because it's quicker and more practical, but it keeps everyone away. The second thing was that there's no reason to have dinner separately and the third thing was how much lighter the house becomes and the children are happier when the adults aren't overwhelmed and fighting.
It seems that Amanda was able to see everything from a different perspective.
-Joe, I wanted to talk to you. I've thought about that subject. He is surprised and refuses to look at her, afraid of what she's going to say.
-What do you want to do?
-I think we need to go to couples therapy and we need to take the kids too, so they can learn to have a sense of brotherhood and see that Ben isn't to blame for everything. I think you need a day just for yourself too, just like me, we can choose a day for that. Every day is a family day and we take another day just for the two of us. I think I need an activity that I like and I need to occupy my mind with something different. It will be good for all of us. She gives a weak smile, and Joe, relieved, goes to her, hugs her tightly and throws her on the bed.
-Thank you - he says with a relieved voice, leaving a kiss on her cheek.
The two of them stayed there for a while thinking about everything, until Joe has the courage to speak.
-We need to learn to talk when something bothers us. Talking isn't fighting. We need that. It will do us a lot of good. We need to sit down and talk about the day, what we think, what we think, what we want, what one of us did that the other doesn't like. If we talk about everything, it will be okay - He takes her hand firmly.
Maybe the big change isn't necessarily taking something out of our lives, but changing our habits, and that's what Amanda is going to try.

Random Spider-Verse Headcanons for funnsicles?? OKAY
✨ 🪩 🏄
(emojis are funnee)
When Gwen found out she was assigned to visit E-1610 to catch the Spot, in the days leading up to the mission, she would go up to Miguel with a list of prepared phrases and sentences to ask him how to say them in Spanish. Her excuse was that they were quips for her to say in an upcoming fight with a Rhino variant that spoke Spanish. Miguel had no idea who Gwen was actually planning on saying them to, but he was pretty sure it wasn't to a villain, since they were all for seemingly friendly conversation. But he complied and taught her the phrases in Spanish. When she went to 1610 as seen in ATSV, Gwen never ended up saying any to Miles because was too embarrassed or scared that she'd get the pronunciation wrong. She left 1610 regretting not using them.
Both Miles 1610 and Miles 42 are very good cooks. They learned from their moms because it was a fun bonding activity to talk about their day and open up about their feelings. They haven't done much cooking with mom since they were 13; that was when 1610 was bitten and 42 began training to be the Prowler. Both Mileses are good, but 42 is the better cook because he usually tries to help his mom by making dinner when Rio has a long night shift.
Sometimes Peni will just walk up to Gwen and stretch her arms out, to signal that she wants Gwen to deadlift carry her by her pits like she's a cat. When Gwen does it, Peni just lets her head hang back and her body go limp like she's dead or smth. Gwen just holds her out like that and goes about her day like normal for half an hour.
Gwen ends up moving out at 18. She rents an apartment in SoHo, Manhattan along with Glory and Betty as her roommates. Gwen and Betty are absolute WILD CRATS when they have the house to themselves. Betty is the instigator and Gwen just shrugs and decides to be complicit in her shenanigans. I'm talking All-Star playing at full blast on the speakers, Betty pulling out the Guitar Hero 10 minutes in, and then they switch ALL the furniture and wallpapers and belongings of each other's rooms around just to mess with Glory. So it's like, the interior design of the room is identical to what it was before, but it's now in an entirely different room of the apartment. What's worse is they'll try to gaslight Glory into thinking that their rooms were always like that. It never works obviously, but Glory is that mature mom friend who just puts up with her friends' antics. So Glory just settles for that being her room now. But then Gwen and Betty do the switch-around AGAIN only once Glory is finally used to her new room. The whole experience is loads of fun but like...dude. Glory can't leave them alone for 2 hours. They all love when E Jay comes over, sure, but Em Jay has a habit of visiting unannounced to present day plans or activities without taking their schedules into account. (I haven't read the Spider-Gwen comics in full so this headcanon is just what I interpret from Spiderverse).
Miles somehow thinks he's 6 feet tall. He doesn't have a specific number, just that he's at least over 6 ft. This is coming from how he drew himself after his growth spurt in ATSV's opening to be almost as tall as Peter B and a head taller than Gwen which is clearly not the case XD. So he basically assumes that everyone else he knows is just really really tall, because all the adults as well as Hobie are like a head taller than him at LEAST.
Gwen pirates/uses emulators for all her video games
there's this thing that keeps happening where whenever someone unfamiliar with the Spider-Band learns that Gwen is dating someone within the group, they never guess that it's Miles. They assume it's Hobie first, then Pav, then they'll just keep guessing everyone. They will think it's Spider-Ham before they think it's Miles. It's not that they think lowly of Miles or anything. It's just that no one ever thinks that he'd be Gwen's type because well, he's just so...*gestures to all of Miles* normal. Like people just assume that Gwen would date someone equally as wild and out-of-this-world as her, like...well, everyone else in the Spider-band. Of course, no one realizes that Miles' normalcy relative to everyone else in Gwen's life is partly why he's Gwen's type.
Back in her dimension, Gwen did this thing where she'd go on long drawling walks through suburban neighborhoods at dusk, staring at the populated houses and the golden windows lit warmly by the life happening inside. Sometimes she'd say aloud to herself, "that'd be nice."
Jess gifts Gwen her motorcycle for her 18th birthday.
Gwen has a green thumb. Miles gifts Gwen plants and they'll come up with names for them together. They take naming their plants very seriously.
One of Hobie's favorite couple nicknames for Miles and Gwen is Bonnie and Clyde, respectively.
Gwen had a BIG Y/N phase when she was a preteen. She had long since left it behind, but In between the events of ITSV and ATSV, while George was out on a late night shift, Gwen for whatever reason followed a strong sudden urge and wrote a new Y/N in one sitting. She immediately deleted it when she was done before George came home, but what she hadn't realized was that she wrote it in his account instead of hers. One day George was clearing out his Recently Deleted, he noticed that draft that he knew wasn't his. He opened it, and what he read was literally just the plot of Baby Driver with Gwen inserted as the main character. He was completely lost on that street artist character Gwen had replaced the waitress with until he met Miles.
Betty is obsessed with legos. That's it.
There's also this running gag where someone will show up with a very specific problem or be in need of something that they highly doubt anyone there can help with. Betty will be in the corner and just chirp that she possesses the exact skill to solve the problem, but she'll go completely unnoticed every time. And like it's not that people are being condescending to her or mean, everyone's just. completely oblivious to the fact that Betty's a polymath
Betty keeps a collection of fortune cookie papers. Every morning when she wakes up, she chooses a different one from the collection and keeps it in her left shoe.
EDIT: that last Betty one is cringe idk what was I doing I'm sorry

Tumblr media
Last night, I dreamt about sleeping with them.
It's not even the first time I've dreamt about sex with Johnny and Ghost. Of seeing Ghost's face unimpeded by masks or shadows. Of hearing up-close the throaty groans that Ghost draws out of Johnny nightly. And, if anything, it's only worsened by the moans that drift from their room down the hall in the night-time hours.
"Well that's not very good," Winnie clarifies, stating the obvious as usual, voice filling the room. Usually, I'd call her with my airpods in, but Ghost is in Russia, and Johnny is at a check-up for his stitches. Which means that I can rant to my best friend and seek advice on this incredibly fucked up situation. "Jesus, Tali."
I roll my eyes even though she can't see me. "Yeah, no shit."
"Hey, don't take your frustration out on me. I don't want to fuck them; that's all you." There's a beat of silence before, "Right, I have questions."
"Don't we all," I say exasperated, my head falling back onto my pillow with a muted thud.
Winnie clears her throat. "Well... are they gay? Or are they bi?"
"I don't know. Haven't asked."
"Okay. Have they been flirting with you or anything?"
"I don't know."
Winnie exhales a heavy sigh. "Explain."
It's hard to explain. The possibility is in the subtle things; the casual brushes against me as they walk past, the unnecessarily prolonged eye contact, the inside jokes. But it's never overt. Everything is just a little on the far side of friendly, but not so far as to be awkward or out of line.
"Johnny's started napping on the sofa with his head in my lap. And sometimes he rubs my shoulders while we watch TV." I think back to what happened three nights ago, just before Ghost left for Russia with John and Gaz. "And then the other night I was doing the dishes. Johnny started drying them like he normally does, but... Ghost came in too."
There's an almost comically long pause on Winnie's end of the line. "Then what happened?"
"He started talking but I didn't know he was there. I dropped the knife I was holding and when I tried to grab it, I sliced my hand open. Ghost patched me up."
I think back to it. Ghost was attentive and diligent as he sterilised the wound with some alcohol wipes from their first aid kit, pulling the raw edges of my skin closed with butterfly stitches. The entire time, his touches were gentle and caring, his free hand running soft, gentle lines along the back of my injured palm with his index finger.
It reminded me of the thing he does to soothe Johnny sometimes. The casual intimacy of it.
"Tali," Winnie says, her tone an admonishing one, "what have I told you about those bloody knives? You need to be careful with them." She sucks in a breath. "But I am surprised. If anything, I'd have thought that would Johnny patching you up."
"Exactly." A spark of something flares deep within my chest. "Ghost isn't a tactile person at all. Johnny tried to help but Ghost wouldn't let him near me. Said he wanted to do it himself. And he called me love."
Winnie makes a noise akin to a purr. "Oh dear. I mean, if it helps, I'm picking up on some vibes here too. Is it worth just asking them where you stand?"
Before I can open my mouth to answer, the front door opens and a cheerful "honey, I'm home!" rings out through the apartment. Hurriedly, I take the phone off speaker and press it against my ear. "Johnny's back."
"I figured," she giggles.
"Can I call you back later?"
We say our goodbyes, with Winnie agreeing to call me in the evening once she's had her dinner. With the call ended, I hop off of my bed and pad out into the hallway.
Johnny is standing in the living room with shopping bags hanging from both hands. There's a beaming grin on his face, his eyes shining. "I hope ye did'nae mind. I did some shopping for us."
I rush over to take the bags from him and place them down on the counter. "Thanks, Johnny. How was the appointment?"
"It went well." He follows me into the kitchen, taking up a large amount of space with his muscular build. "I'm even better for seeing ye though, bonnie."
Heat rises to my face as he takes my injured hand in his, folding his fingers around my wrist loosely and guiding my palm into his line of sight. With a feather-light touch, he runs a single fingertip along my butterfly stitches, checking on Ghost's handiwork. Then - as if satisfied that they're holding up - he drops my hand and moves past me, his front pressing against my back for a brief breath-stealing moment, as he starts to put the groceries away.
Bonnie. That's a new one.
"Want me to cook tea tonight?" Johnny asks, moving around the space with a certainty that is so unbelievably attractive to me. He's only been living here for a week now, but he's already settled in. He knows where everything is and just how I like the kitchen arranged. It's like he's always been here.
"You don't have to." I hop up to perch on the countertop, resigning myself to the fact that he's unpacking and putting the shopping away. A few days ago, I might have tried to argue with him or step in and take over. Now, I just sit back and watch, keeping him company. "Heard anything from Ghost yet?"
Johnny nods his head, slotting the milk into the fridge. "They're coming back from Russia tonight. Probably won't be home for a couple more days though; they've got someone to interrogate at the base."
I'm so distracted by the fact that he just referred to the apartment as home that I almost miss the mention of an interrogation. I wilfully choose to ignore it; to not let my mind linger on the darker side of Ghost that he will undoubtedly be unleashing.
I'm still distracted when Johnny starts to walk towards me again, a bag of pasta in his hand. If he follows my system, it should go in the cabinet above my head. As he inches closer to me, I can see the cogs turning behind his opalescent blue eyes. I know I should move out of the way; to the side or off of the counter altogether to move myself out of his path. But I don't. And he doesn't say anything either, slotting himself firmly between my spread thighs as he opens the cabinet.
I can feel the sheer heat radiating off of his huge, muscular body. Can smell the heady, woody, and floral scent of his aftershave. The strong column of his throat is just inches away from my lips, and - up close - I can see the generous dusting of dark hair that decorates his chest and abs underneath the thin white fabric of his vest.
Instinctively, my hand rises up to rest against his abdomen, making sure to fall on his uninjured side.
"Tali," the word is mumbled, verging on breathless.
My eyes dart up to find him staring down at me. Even seated on the counter, he's taller than me, and I can't help but find the size difference unfairly hot. It makes me think about Ghost; the fact that he's even bigger. A shiver runs through me at the thought of both of them standing here, crowding me in...
Johnny's gaze is heated - something intense shining under the surface of those sweet baby blues - as he hooks a single index finger under my chin. "What's gotten into you, lassie?"
My breath catches in my throat. For a second, I question if I'm doing the right thing.
The finger leaves my chin and I'm rewarded with a gentle squeeze just above my knee. "I asked ye a question."
"I... I-" I stumble over my words like an idiot. "You've been flirting with me." The way my tone pitches up at the end makes it sound more like a question than a statement.
Johnny chuckles, eyes sparkling with humour. "Ye don't sound so sure, lovey."
I wince. My muscles tense as I pull back slightly, leaning back on my hands. "You're in a relationship with Ghost."
"Very observant of ye." He closes the cabinet with his free hand, then runs his thumb along the curve of my cheekbone, the other hand shifting slightly higher on my thigh. "I am. But I've seen the way you look at us, Tali. And I've heard ye at night." His hand brushes the very top of my thigh and my breath catches once again. His eyes darken. "The walls in this apartment are pretty thin."
All moisture leaves my mouth. Oh brilliant. Johnny, and possibly Ghost, have heard me touching myself at night. I don't know whether to feel embarrassed or turned on. And then there's the way Johnny says it; so casually - so easily - like it doesn't bother him in the slightest. Like it would be unusual if I wasn't masturbating with them just down the hall.
"Does... does Ghost know?" is the only thing I can think to ask.
Johnny grins. "Aye, he does." We're both leaning closer and closer to each other again, until I can practically feel the warmth of his mint-scented breath against my skin. "He thinks it's cute."
Cute. Like a puppy or a kitten. Something adorable.
Not sexy or hot. Adorable.
Embarrassment hits me, jagged and icy, flooding through my veins. And suddenly I feel so. Fucking. Stupid.
I'm not some kind of femme fatale - not the kind of woman who can pursue one man, let alone two.
What did I expect? For Johnny to confess that they, too, have been thinking about me in less than appropriate ways and then what? There's no happy ending for me lusting after Johnny and Ghost in their committed, serious relationship - I knew that from the first night I dreamt about them. And I was mad for even thinking that maybe - just maybe - they could have been looking at me like that too.
No; they go out into parts of the world that people like me rarely ever see, putting their lives on the line to save the world. They don't want to fuck an interior designer with commitment issues, and deep-rooted family trauma.
"Okay, cool," I mumble under my breath, eyes focused on a spot on the tiled floor. I move my hand away from his side, gently pushing him away as I do so.
With a frown, he takes a step back. He looks almost hurt.
I hop down from the countertop and fold my arms across my chest, stepping back in the direction of the hallway. "I'll, um... I'll try to keep the noise down. I- I'm sorry for being a nuisance."
Johnny's face falls. "No, lassie- that..."
I'm already out of the kitchen before I can hear the rest, spinning on my heel and taking off in a brisk walk until I get to my room. With the door firmly closed, I pull my phone out of my pocket and fire off a quick text to Winnie.
TALIA KELLER: They don't feel the same.
She's online in half a heartbeat.
WINSLOW SLOANE: Wait WINSLOW SLOANE: What happened? TALIA KELLER: Was helping Johnny put the food shopping away. He told me that him and Ghost can hear me in my room at night and that Ghost thinks it's "cute". TALIA KELLER: It was so fucking mortifying. WINSLOW SLOANE: Oh Tali :( WINSLOW SLOANE: Context is key, baby. Maybe cute is a good thing. Does Ghost strike you as a man who thinks that many things are cute?
I tip my head back. No matter the positive spin that Winnie wants to try and put on this, I'm still not seeing it.
So, I lie in bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling icky and embarrassed. And wondering how Winnie would feel about sound-proofing the entire apartment.
Tumblr media
I'm out for a walk when Ghost comes home.
When I get in, his massive combat boots are tucked in neatly next to the door. I don't immediately see him, or Johnny for that matter, and it's something that sends an unexpected spike of disappointment through me. Which makes me frown because this isn't me. I don't get like this with people - not even Winnie. I avoid commitment and co-dependency at all costs because I know that one day it will come back to bite me.
I think about how I used to wait for Alex to come home, practically counting down the minutes, waiting by the door for his return. I think about how I watch Marcella do the same, and now Johnny. And it's the antithesis of the life I've resolved myself to: complete independence.
I follow the sound of their voices into the kitchen, watching the domestic scene playing out before me. Johnny is pouring sparkling water into two glasses for them while Ghost stands back, his face hidden behind a black balaclava with a white skull painted across the front. Common sense dictates that it's something that should probably scare me. It doesn't.
He dips his head in acknowledgement, and I meet it with my own awkward nod.
"Tali," Ghost's voice is as gruff as ever. The mask shifts and, in the shadows cast by the overhead lights, I can make out a hint of a smile playing on his face underneath the masks. "How've you been?"
"I've been okay. How was Russia?"
"How's your hand?" He completely bypasses my question, as if I never even spoke.
For a moment, I just stare at them, waiting for Ghost to answer me first. When it becomes clear that isn't going to happen, I say, "It's okay. Hasn't fallen off yet, anyway."
Johnny lets out a snort of laughter. "Someone's in a sarcastic mood. Good thing Ghostie is home, aye?"
A beat of silence passes, his words hanging in the air between us.
"So, how was Russia?" I repeat, cocking my head to one side.
Ghost lets out a weary sigh, bracing his hands on the counter, shoulder's width apart. Out of the corner of my eye, I swear I can see Johnny's body tensing up. "It was interesting. We didn't find what we thought we'd find. That's all I can say. Rest is classified." It's a lot more than I was expecting anyway, and probably the most forthcoming he's been with me since the day they moved in. "But I will say that I missed you lot. Both of you."
"You don't have to include me out of pity," I snap impulsively. It's so obvious to me that Johnny's told him what happened that night in the kitchen. For reasons I can't fully articulate, it makes me angry.
Ghost's eyes darken at that, and suddenly I can see what those men in Russia must have seen; a huge, pissed-off man, clad in a skull mask and all black clothes. A man you probably shouldn't be riling up knowingly.
It sends a thrill down my spine and my palms start to sweat.
"Don't start, love," he growls, "I'm not in the mood tonight."
I stutter and stumble over a comeback, but it dies in my throat when Ghost crosses the apartment, leaving an amused-looking Johnny standing halfway between the kitchen and the living room.
"Yeah, Johnny's told me all about the shit you've been giving him while I've been gone. Avoiding him and not answering when he tries to check on you." He comes to a complete stop in front of me, towering over my much smaller frame and levelling me with a serious look. It doesn't escape my attention that he must be over six-and-a-half feet tall and verging on two-hundred pounds of pure, solid muscle. "Misbehaving for him." A single, large paw of a hand comes up to brush over my shoulder, skimming up to rest lightly on my throat. There's no grip there though; it's a hold so gentle that I could break it just by stepping back. "That ends now, princess."
I will myself to come to my senses, but I can't. Instead, I stand there, doe-eyed with parted lips, gazing up at the huge, strong soldier disciplining me. My body is trembling like a leaf in the wind and I'm wet - unignorably so.
I wonder if he knows.
His answering smirk tells me that he probably does, and there's a new lustful darkness in his tone as he adds, "Because I think we all need to sit down and have a talk, yeah?"

Hello! So I know you’ve answered questions about how Molly and Roy would react if their sizes were switched, but what would they do if they suddenly found themselves the same size as one another? (Sorry if that’s boring and not the point of gt haha)
Oh my god thabk you this is a GREAT QUESTION!!!!!!!
I have already played with this idea in the past, but haven post anything here lol because they were so messy and they had no accurate proportions 😀
Here's what would happen (assuming mollie grew instead of roy shrunk) at first, obviously they'd be shocked so they would look at theirselves dumbly for like half a minute. Of course, Roy could only stare, mollie has to break the silence. He's a timid deer 🤭
Hold on why don't i just actually draw this 😀
(This might take long for me to answer lol)
ALRIGHT I'M BACK WITH A LITTLE COMIC AND A FEW SKETCHES
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two older sketches (like from a few months ago) but tumblr doesn't let me to attach more 🤝. I will post them via reblogging later on.
Okay so, after a long session or Roy crying on Mollie's lap, they would do EVERYTHING they couldn't while Mollie was tiny; holding hands, trying to kiss normal size way, hugging, messing each other's hair, cuddling etc.
Like Roy asks Mollie what eould she like for breakfast and cook for her because she couldn't eat much from him...
"What would you like for breakfast?"
"I dunno, what would you like to cook for breakfast?"
"Anything, for you"
"Roy, I only manage to cook and eat eggs or toast when I'm on my own. You can't trust my taste."
"... Well then"
"Whatever it is you gonna cook, i will spill it on you intentionally."

Hi! I have three questions. In my story I'd like one of my characters to use a cane, because I never see any representation for younger people who use canes. For context this is in a medieval fantasy setting and it's going to be a comic so it will be visual media.
Question 1
I was thinking about why she might use it, and I thought maybe she could have broken her leg at some point and have chronic pain from that. I looked it up and it looks like broken bones CAN cause chronic pain, and I found a few posts from people saying that they have chronic pain/a limp after breaking their legs.
Does this sound like something that she would/could use a cane for? Would this type of chronic pain be helped by using a cane, or would it not make much of a differnece?
Question 2
At one point in the story her best friend/love interest is being attacked by a creature. Would it be okay for her to use her cane to hit it? She doesn't beat the shit out of it or anything, she just whacks it on the head to get its attention and stop it from attacking her friend.
Idk if this is even a trope but I don't want it to come across as me saying disability aids are dangerous or secretly weapons or something. She doesn't have one of those sword canes, it's just a normal cane.
Question 3
I don't know a lot about canes but I'm planning on her cane being a hand-carved, wooden, offset handle cane.
Will that type of cane be good for supporting her body as she walks around? She's pretty petite and maybe around like 5'2" or something, so she doesn't have a lot of weight to support.
I found a guide online that stated how to size her cane correctly, but do I need to add a few extra inches to compensate for the cane sinking into the ground when she walks around outdoors or will that not make much of a difference?
She lives in a rural village and there are no paved roads, just dirt. Should I maybe put a metal cap on the bottom of the cane so that it doesn't get worn down on dirt/rocks/etc?
Hi!
A cane would make sense for that! Especially if her leg doesn't offer enough stability or can't bear all the weight (though if it can't bear it at all, crutches would be better).
I don't see a problem with whacking something with a cane, though it's definitely a desperate measure (I mean, a walking cane is short as hell). I can't imagine that it would be a particularly good weapon unless she manages to knock it out first try lol. But for diverting attention it would be fine.
The type of cane sounds good to me! Though keep in mind that if she's petite and doesn't have a lot of strength, it being wooden could be eventually tiring for her in the long run. Most modern canes are much lighter for this reason.
As for the height measuring, unless she walks in mud or something equally swamp-esque it wouldn't really make a difference. The general rule is that a cane should reach the crease at the wrist, but in my experience it doesn't have to be exact. More or less around that height should be alright.
A metal cap is an interesting solution! Canes do very much wear out at the tip, and we have to change out the tips once in a while, especially if we happen to be going through harsher terrain a lot. Because her cane is wooden and non-modern, I think the best idea would be to always have the tip covered (these things wear off from any surface in existence, some are just faster than others) and change them occasionally when they're no longer usable (e.g. after walking through a rocky terrain for a long time).
I appreciate the amount of thought you put into the character! I hope this is helpful:-)

Just the way you are.
Tumblr media
requested by @nekosounds saying: Can I please request a Rhea x Reader where the reader is chubby and feels a little insecure about their weight. Especially around so many muscular people. But Rhea tells them they're perfect just the way they are? Maybe some backstage people make fun of reader and Rhea defends reader. Sorry if this is long
pairing: Rhea Ripley x fem chubby reader.
genre: friends to lovers,angst,fluff.
summary: while your friend Rhea bought you to your first wrestling show, something goes wrong. But,as always, Rhea handles it her way, secretly receiving a kiss from you.
warnings: bodyshaming.
⋆ ˚。⋆𔓘⭒๋࣭
You have always been insecure about your weight.
Since you were a teenager, you never liked to be the biggest of the group, you never liked to expose you body, you never liked the way everyone always seemed to stress you about getting a boyfriend or to get skinnier.
You always longed to feel love, like other beautiful girls did.
What did you have that was different from them? You were still lovable,it's not like you were a toy without feelings.
That's what your bestfriend Rhea told you multiple times during your whole friendship.
She never judged you for your body, and she slowly made her way into your heart, causing you to develop a massive crush on her.
You never dared to tell her though, because you knew she wouldn't like you back, and you didn't want to ruin the beautiful friendship you had. (Oh,you were so wrong.)
This week,Rhea invited you to your first WWE Monday Night Raw show, since she wanted you to watch her wrestle against Alexa Bliss. (Also, because she wanted to show off her skills, trying to impress you.)
You eagerly accepted her offer, and you just couldn't wait to see her in the ring, too mesmerised to even take your eyes off her in normal circumstances, so imagine seeing her fight: a (not so) straight dream came true.
During the journey in the airplane and in the car to arrive in New York, she never left your side, because she didn't want anything to happen while she wasn't there.
"I'm so excited!" You were literally jumping on the car seat from the happiness, and Rhea couldn't help to smile.
"Girl! Calm down!" Rhea said while giggling at your cuteness, while you comically stopped in your tracks,a shy smile plastered on your face.
The two of you continued chatting while the car you were in was bringing you to the arena, talking about Rhea's gear tonight and her asking you who would win.
After arriving at the arena,a backstage worker was showing Rhea her locker room, and you felt like you were some sort of intruder.
"It's pretty big in here, it looks like a bedroom." You said after the backstage worker left, looking around curiously.
"It is! I forced my manager to pick the biggest one so we could enjoy our time together." Rhea smirked, and your face became as red as a tomato.
You saw a lot of muscly, strong and attractive wrestlers, males and females, greet Rhea, and you felt out of place.
Everyone is so jacked and strong and you were just the opposite.
Your insecurity started to take the best of you,and you were ashamed of being the way you were.
But your thoughts were interrupted by someone shouting:"Rhea Ripley! You need to do your entrance in 5 minutes!"
"Oh God." She said, while hurriedly putting her gear on and fixing her hair.
"Okay,Y/N,come with me,I'll bring you to the audience seats." A backstage assistant told me,already knowing that Rhea wanted you to see her fight.
You shyly followed after him, while everyone was starting to stare at you, they wondered who you were. (But they were quickly shut up by Rhea's glare.)
Finally,after almost 5 minutes,Rhea made her entrance.
Her powerful aura and her loud music made her look magical, and you couldn't help but stare at her, hoping she wouldn't notice.
But oh,she did.
She winked and blowed you a kiss, and your face immediately flushed.
Today, she had a match against Alexa Bliss, and soon enough, you heard her entrance music blast in your ears.
While Alexa Bliss was entrataining the crowd with dance moves and with little waves,Rhea was secretly watching you.
Your round face's features were highlighted by the stage lights, and you looked beautiful as hell.
"Oh,dear Rhea. Long time no see, huh?" Alexa smirked, while Rhea was glaring at her.
"I see you have company today! Mind to introduce that fatty right here?" Alexa said while pointing at you in the crowd, and Rhea was furious.
Your bestfriend landed a punch on Alexa's face, not even caring about the script. Her enemy was clearly taken off guard, and didn't have any time to fight back, thanks to Rhea's unforgiving punches.
"never. talk. about. my. girl. like. that. again. Understood?" Rhea said while throwing punches to Alexa Bliss' body, while said girl was crying in pain.
Rhea got out of the ring and took a steel chair, swinging it on Alexa's back, while you watched in horror.
"Oh my god" Your mouth was wide open, just like your eyes were about to come out of your head.
Referees had to take Rhea off Alexa, and you stood up to follow Rhea, who was storming out of the ring, going straight to the backstage.
"This bitch!" Rhea shouted while running through the hallways, you following closely behind her.
"Rhea! Calm down!" You shouted, while holding her arm.
She turned to face you,and you saw her gaze softening.
"I'm sorry this happened, baby. At least I gave her a good beating,no one treats my girl that way. You're amazing just the way you are, don't forget that." She smirked while you shyly smiled, and she came closer to you,and your lips were lightly touching.
"You know what,I really really like you,Y/N. And I'm sure you do too, right?" She mumbled with her deep voice, and you answered her question with your actions.
Your lips collided with hers,a sealed promise to always be togheter no matter what.
"You did all of that just for me?" You asked while wrapping your hands around her waist, and she hold you tight.
"Oh hell yeah. Under any circumstance,I might do even more than what I did out there." She answered, pointing to the ring.
"I love you, baby." She said, and you kissed her again.

Vox x Sex repulsed! Ace Reader
Warnings:
This is short, OOC, Valentino is mentioned here unfortunately, I deleted the majority of my projecting but it's there if you squint, not my best work, I don't know what I wrote this was supposed to be something else and then it pinwheeled, reader is very much a "delay it until it bites you in the butt" person.
Song
Tumblr media
You're growing tired of me
You loved Vox, you truly did.
You love me so hard and I still can't sleep
You loved his weird TV shaped head, the way he'd try to be all threatening but in all reality was a cowardly dork.
You're growing tired of me
Maybe it was because of the era you lived in, sexuality wasn't talked or discussed much so you didn't know exactly what you were.
You didn't look at people the same way your friends did, sure you found them beautiful, each person was unique in their own way, like how that one lady you passed by had the most beautiful eyes or how that guy's freckles reminded you of the starry night sky?
But you didn't want to undress them.
And all the things I don't talk about
You always avoided the topic of intercourse or anything beyond the more holy acts of affection like snuggling or handholding with Vox, If he brought it up you were quick to change the subject in a semi-awkward way.
Sorry, I don't want your touch
You'd move away from his hand if it traveled below your waist, you'd get up and speed walk away if needed.
It's not that I don't want you
Vox was confused because you returned his feelings, you'd engage in other acts of affection so why wouldn't you sleep with him? Was he that repulsive? Was it the TV head? The weird charger hole nipples?
Sorry, I can't take your touch
You avoided anything with erotica like the plague, Investing in a comically large can of bug spray so Valentino wouldn't come near you.
In the words of Carmilla Carmine it wasn't rocket science to figure out that you weren't into the whole sex thing.
However Vox just didn't clock that for some reason.
It's just that I fell in love with a war
You wanted to talk about it with Vox, that while you enjoyed spending time and doing things almost every other couple does, you didn't want to do certain activities.
Nobody told me it ended
But you just couldn't, everytime you wanted to bring it up you had a feeling of pure dread fill you.
And it left a pearl in my head
What if Vox didn't understand? What if everything crumbled away? What if something worse happened? There were too many liabilities.
And I roll it around every night
You knew that the longer you delayed the conversation, the worse the confrontation would be but that was a problem for future you.
You didn't like to think about it.
Just to watch it glow
For now you'd prolong it for as long as you could.
Every night, baby, that's where I go
You would watch as many trashy movies, eat at however many restaurants, and spend as much time with Vox until the inevitable happened.
Sorry, I don't want your touch
And the inevitable did happen.
It's not that I don't want you
It was after a date night, the two of you went to some new restaurant, drank wine and chatted,
Then you went home, you were ready to change into your coziest pajamas and snuggle with Vox.
However he had much different plans.
Sorry, I can't take your touch
And now you were here with Vox, with him exasperated.
"Why? Is it me? Do you not like the way I look?"
"No! I think you're very aesthetically pleasing!"
"The fuck is that supposed to mean??" He took a deep breath "Fuck, okay I don't understand, I thought that you loved me?"
"I do! Vox I do, I just don't want to do-" you made a certain motion with your hands "That."
"Okay so you don't want to-"
"Have intercourse? No I don't,"
"Why?"
"I don't know, I'm just like this, I can't change it, sometimes I'd like to just be normal for once, but I can't, I'm sorry?"
There's a hole that you fill
The silence was suffocating, the room was freezing cold.
You fill, you fill
you kept your eyes on the ground, not daring to look Vox in the eyes.
But it's just that I fell in love with a war
You heard him shuffle around before finally saying something.
And nobody told me it ended
It was inevitable, the two of you, while in other aspects were great! This was a deal breaker, and that wasn't either of your faults.
The two of you were just incompatible.
And it left a pearl in my head
Well, it was nice while it lasted.
And I roll it around every night
You sighed as you walked out of the Vee's tower, belongings in hand.
Just to watch it glow
Vox watched you leave through one of the many cameras he had around the place.
Every night, baby, that's where I go
It was time for you to move on and hopefully find someone who's on the same or similar page as you.
Just to watch it glow
Maybe a certain deer.
Tumblr media
Good evening folks! I posted Wednesday angst on Wednesday for once! This was supposed to be posted an hour ago but a certain someone who shall not be named [Barnaby] kept smacking my face with his paw, knocking my glasses off and leaving me blind. I'm tired.
Anyways thank you for tuning in!

Written for the @steddieholidaydrabbles, day 25
Prompt: Christmas
Rated: G
CW: none
Tags: Fluff; Getting together; First kiss
Notes: Continued from day 5
Tumblr media
Steve is just putting the last of the cookies into the oven - stars and trees and gingerbread men with little vampire teeth - when theres a cacophony of swears and noise from the roof and a giant letter X crashes into the snow outside the kitchen window. He wipes his hands on a towel, slips into his boots and coat and makes his way outside.
“Eds? You still alive up there?”
“Barely!”
Eddie pops his head over the edge of the roof. He’s wearing the Santa hat again, the one they found in the attic together with the letters and the rest of the decorations.
“Your roof is a fucking ice rink, Harrington. Veritable death trap up here.”
“Hey,” Steve sloshes closer, almost trips over a plastic elf protruding from the snowy lawn like a tiny, cheerful goblin in a striped hat. “Don’t whine at me. I told you it was a bad idea, getting the letters up in that weather.”
“Yeah, yeah, mom!” Eddie snarks. “Now get that thing back up here.”
“Of course,” Steve rolls his eyes but still tucks the fallen letter under his arm and clambers up the ladder. “No fun if we don’t break both our necks.”
“Don’t be so dramatic.” Eddie takes the letter from him as soon as he’s within reach, then extends a gloved hand to help him onto the roof. The wool is scratchy against his skin, but Steve still revels in the warmth of it, the firm press of Eddie’s fingers entwining with his. “Didn’t survive the literal apocalypse to be taken down by some holiday decorations. Now help me put this- woah!”
He slips on the icey roof, teeters dangerously close to the abyss, eyes comically large and arms ruddering in the air for balance. Steve does what he does best and flies into action, bodily lunging himself at him and pulling him against his chest. He goes down on the shingles ass first, Eddie sprawled on top of him. By some Christmas miracle, Steve manages to grab a hold of the X before it can fall a second time.
Eddie’s breath is warm against his neck, hands clawing into his coat, and oh shit, they’re close. So very close. Much closer than two buddies who just happen to be spending Christmas together should be.
“You okay?” Steve says over the sound of his own blood roaring in his ears.
“Peachy,” Eddie pulls back, shoves the Santa hat out of his eyes. His very brown, very pretty eyes that Steve has caught himself thinking about an absurd amount lately. There's a bright pink flush coloring the bridge of his nose - probably from the scare. Or the cold. Yup, the cold, that’ll be it. “Reckon you’ll ever get tired of saving my ass, big boy?”
“Never.”
The word is out before Steve can bite it back. And maybe it comes with a little too much force, a little too much conviction. The smile slips off Eddie’s face and he blinks. Gulps. Disentangles himself from Steve and takes the letter from his hand.
For a few moments, the only sounds are those of the wind on the roof and Eddie’s struggle to put the letter in its proper place.
“Still feels weird sometimes, doesn’t it?”
“Huh?” Steve says lamely.
Eddie chuckles and slots back into space beside him, shoulder-to-shoulder and knee-to-knee.
“That it’s all just … over like this? That we’re here and get to do all this boring, normal stuff like baking cookies and putting up lights and celebrating Christmas?”
One of his hands finds Steve’s knee - a light, reassuring touch.
We’re here.
We’re both here.
“Dunno,” Steve shrugs. The sky is turning dark and Hawkins is spreading out under them, a sea of twinkling lights slowly coming alive. “I like normal.”
I wanna do a million normal things with you, for a hundred years. I don’t think I’d ever get tired of it.
“Yeah,” Eddie hums, a low and content sound that Steve feels in his own body, close as they are. “I'm starting to get the appeal.”
Then, before Steve can say or do anything stupid, he bends down to retrieve something from somewhere by their feet. He reemerges with a toothy grin, a plug and an extension cord.
“Okayyy, let's get these babies lit up, shall we?”
Steve turns as the neon lights flicker to life behind them, basking them in their glow and-
“Oh,” says Eddie. “Whoops.”
The words sparkling down at them, bright and cheerful for all of Loch Nora to behold, read MERRY SMAX.
The laughing fit hits Steve so hard that, this time, Eddie needs to grab him before he can fall off the roof.
“You asshole,” he wheezes into the leather of his jacket. “You did that on purpose!”
Eddie gasps through his own laughter, tries to put on a serious face. “What? Stevie, you wound me! What do you take me for? A troublemaker? A fiend with no respect for the honored tradition of this fine, Christian holiday?”
His eyes are large and round with mock-offense, Santa hat flopping around with the force of his own laughter, face alight with that gorgeous toothy grin of his. He’s ridiculously pretty, so fucking pretty with the lights twinkling all around him and Steve’s brain just sort of short-circuits. Not for long. Just for a second.
Just long enough to lean in and press his lips to Eddie’s.
When he pulls back, Eddie isn’t laughing anymore. Instead, he’s staring at him, mouth aghast and eyes wide.
“Shit,” Steve blurts. “I mean- Sorry, I dunno what that was, I-”
Something flickers across Eddie’s face, something needy and raw.
“I’ll show you what the fuck it was,” he growls and pulls Steve back in.
This time, it takes the blare of the fire alarm from the kitchen to break them apart.

with that gaze of yours, full of hurt
"you're home?" you sat on the couch in the apartment that you shared with your boyfriend, who was currently walking through the door, looking like he clearly out doing the same thing he always did, this time he barely hid it. "you smell like whoever she is this time."
he sighed, tossing his keys to the side, rubbing his temples. "don't start this okay, you don't know what you're talking about."
you stood up, scoffing. "really, do you normally go out smelling like— what is it this time? cherries and vanilla." your voice cracking as you began to tear up.
"you, promised."
"i'm sorry." you laughed, that's you could do, it was comical really. "sorry, you're sorry, if you were sorry you'd fucking stop, you wouldn't leave me here for days on days without a call or text." you yelled.
"you're making this a big deal, she didn't mean anything." he yelled back, tugging at his hair in frustration. "please just listen."
"you said it didn't mean anything the last time, or the last time or the fucking time before that, how many times is it not gonna mean anything felix, how many!"
he saw the hurt in your eyes.
please, run away before i end up breaking you
he knew you were right, he was wrong to keep doing this to you , hurting you like this.
you and felix met when you both moved to korea years ago, you both were new to the country, so you had a lot in common, so you relied on each other, being away from your familes you leaned on each other for everything.
your friendship quickly turned into a full blown relationship, and next thing you know you two are in love and moving in with each other.
you two lived happily , you going to school and him recording music with a few other people he met here in korea, that's when it all went to shit, when his band began to get known in the under ground scene...
the different girls that would throw themselves at him, at first he rejected them, he had you, he didn't need anyone else. but good one night, and a few drinks later, he was crawling out of some girls bed, ready to beg for forgiveness.
you forgave him, heartbroken but you still took him back, and he promised not to do it again.
then came another, and another and another, and you took him back each and everytime, and felix realized something— there was reason why you kept taking him back.
you didn't have anyone else, you only had him, you didn't want to live without him, you truly did love him. of course, he did love you back don't get him wrong, but something about how you'd still look at him with heart eyes, packing him his lunches every morning, coming to his concert when you could— you did everything for him regardless of what he did... felix loved that power more, he was addicted to it.
don't let me love you, don't let me love you
"babe, im sorry she didn't mean anything i swear." he was being truthful, he couldn't even remember the girls name, it started with a b or something.
"it was a mistake, you have to believe, i was drunk and it just happened." he gave you those same doe eyes, the ones that made you fall for his charms every single time. "i love you, you know that." he cupped your face.
"you keep breaking my heart." you whispered, tears falling from your face. "it won't happen again, i swear." he wiped the tears. "you just have to trust me."
you wanted to say no, you did, but you really did love felix, and you knew he still loved you, or at least you wanted to hold on to the hope that he did.
"fine, one more chance, im giving you one more chance, felix you better not fuck it up." he smiled, kissing you. "thank you baby."
"i really promise this time will be different."
escape before the pain fills you up
he knew it wasn't gonna be that last time, but that didn't stop him from whispering empty promises in your ear as he thrusted into you, telling you how he's gonna stop while he kissed your neck, soaking up all your precious moans.
this happens everytime, you yell, he plays his games and you forgive him, and you have make up sex, knowing it will only be a week or two before you're right back at were you started, you sitting on the couch watching him walk in the apartment.
he knows he's know good for you. he knows he should let you go find someone who will treats you right, but he can't help but keep you on his life.
he needs you as much as you need him.
don't let me love you

An idea in addition to this rayman AU that I'm not gonna bother sketching out into a comic this time but just write out (with some sketches for flair)- under the cut for your reading pleasure. :3
Would basically be Ray at the beginnings of realizing he's stuck in rabbidville all frustrated/bitter and whatnot, secluded off in a forest (since it'd be a familiar setting) and only venturing into the inner city on occasion when he's got to.
At this point he's been staying away from the rabbids for a while, so he still sees them as the brainless, annoying nuisances that ruined his life. Wouldn't be until one trip in the city he gets bugged by a crying rabbid child who he thinks is just another one trying to pester him- until he gets a real good look at it. It isn't screaming like a maniac with ominous glowing red eyes or wielding a ridiculous plunger. It's just... Scared.
Tumblr media
Course' that goes and touches the hero's heart and, in spite of himself, he ventures around the city proper to find its mom. As he has a good look of the city for the first time, he realizes that none of the rabbids he sees fit the description of the ones he first knew. Sure they're still plenty zany- but none of them are the little maniacs they terrorized the Glade. It's almost as if they were domesticated.
Tumblr media
Eventually he does find momma rabbid, who thanks him profusely (the revelation that they can now apparently talk is a blow within itself, they certainly couldn't do that the last time he was there), and he takes in the reunion for a moment before leaving. Now as he makes his little grocery run, he's less resentful and more thoughtful.
Things have changed, that's for certain. He doesn't want to believe it, not after everything he's gone though, but the rabbids seem... Okay. At least, as far as he can tell. After being secluded for so long and actually having a normal conversation he could understand- he can't help but entertain the thought of maybe... socializing with them.
Not immediately, of course, but he had to be real: He was stuck in this place. There wasn't any doubt about that. And if he was going to have to live here, could it really hurt to try making friends? He didn't have anything to lose at this point, might as well try. What's the worse that could happen?
As much as he attempts to hold a neutral attitude on his way back home, he can't hold back the pep in his step. The idea of making friends had him more than a little excited, and a grin had worked itself onto his face for the first time since he'd gotten to this planet. It was a long shot, sure, but maybe... things didn't have to be so bleak anymore.

i said i was gonna post about it and i am. i don't think william afton hates his kids. i don't think william afton is a mad scientist that kidnapped and put children in hallucinogenic gas chambers. whatever the fuck dittophobia said about afton doing all that, plus not stopping/furthering the bullying between michael and cc, is just dumb & wrong. william wanting his kids to fight, even die, is comically evil in the "bad writing" way. him being characterized as someone who experiments on children (including his own with no regard for their lives) in order to achieve immortality or whatever his supposed motivation is, is just really... nothing? as a character there is nothing to make him feel real. in an attempt to flesh out this character, they made him into a cartoon villain with "evil" being his only defining trait. whatever, i could talk for so long about how dumb i think all the dittophobia stuff is but i think most ppl on tumblr are on the same page regarding that.
to me, william afton is best characterized as someone who, at the Very Least, Doesn't Want His Own Children To Die. he can be a shitty father all around, or he can be a genuine loving father who is also a serial killer, as long as he Cares if they Die? most of what makes william afton an interesting villain, and where a lot of people interpret his motivation comes from, is how despite all his best efforts, he cannot prevent the death or downfall of his own family. he is in a tragedy of his own making, a self-imposed hell crafted by his hubris and violence. if you take this away, why should i care what happens to him? william afton was scariest when he was just purple guy and we knew nothing. william afton is most interesting when we have all these relationships and dynamics where we can seriously study and speculate the circumstances behind/around his actions, when he has something to lose (and will lose). william afton is most stale when more things are added to his story without purpose, filling in gaps that were better unfilled or we didn't even know were there – anything after UCN, basically. bro isn't scary anymore because he's either peepaw afton who's brought back despite his story being over, or he's cartoon network's newest over-the-top villian that you can't take seriously.
okay anyway. ANYWAY. william doesn't hate his kids. even if he's a shitty father, i think he still loves his kids. why else would he try and scare his kids away from the robots if he didn't want them to die? why would he design circus baby after his daughter if he didn't care for her, adore her, even? if you believe the theory that he talked to cc through the fredbear plush (idr if that's actually canon), why would he be trying to protect/comfort him?
i don't think he's a perfect, or even a good father, by any means. if you interpret him to be on the better side, that's great and fine. i'd love to hear how other people interpret/characterize afton if you wanna share! continuing on for this post, i'm going to lay out how i personally see william afton.
to me, he is someone who is very concerned and preoccupied with his image and how others view him & his family. even if he's super shitty and awful towards his kids, he at least cares that they all look good as a family unit, that they're well behaved, that he can send family portrait holiday cards to all his business partners and investors.
he strikes me very much as the typical authoritarian parent of the 80s. harsher on his sons because "men don't cry," wants his kids to say "yes, sir," and "no, sir," believes in "tough love," often says "my house, my rules," he has the final say in everything, maybe thinks hitting them from time to time is a normal, necessary punishment. not all entirely malicious, but thinks he's doing what's best, what's right, acting like a parent and father Should act, perhaps how he himself was raised. unfortunately, a very common parental mindset (even outside of serial killers). maybe he was a little scarier sometimes though, a little more unhinged or violently angry. who's to say.
but he's still just a guy who could exist in real life. he still eats dinner with his family every night, hangs his kids' drawings on the fridge, had to turn the car around because they wouldn't stop fighting in the backseat, attended awkward parent-teacher conferences, everything. he was once a new father who happily came home with his first newborn, lost countless nights of sleep over the course of two more, loves them because they're his.
meticulously and senselessly killed children, then came home and tucked his own into bed and kissed them goodnight.
he can be abusive and still love his kids. he can be a murderer and still care for his own kids' lives. maybe the loss of his own kids is what triggered his actions, or maybe it was something else. i'm fine with not knowing because we don't need to know everything, and it's more interesting when we don't.
Something Is Seriously Wrong With This Guy And We Don't Know What or Why. when acquaintances find out he's a suspected murderer, it should be shocking and upsetting. he's such a great man and father, he wouldn't murder those kids! when michael discovers his father's crimes, he should be in denial. sure, he could be scary sometimes, but he wouldn't kill anyone... right? there's a great cognitive dissonance between who he appears to be and who he actually is.
whether william descended into grief-induced madness and obsession, or was just always some kind of freak, or both, i don't think he saw his own family as disposable. even if he didn't truly love them, he at least needed to keep up his own facade as a friendly family man. personally i like to see him as someone who was a shitty father but still loved his kids, because people like that exist, and it makes him a much more interesting, realistic, and nuanced character than if he just didn't care about them At All.

Tumblr media
Billy and Stu sat down on your couch watching you down a full glass of water. You had told them you needed to have a talk which did nothing but tear at their nerves. With a click, you set the empty glass on the counter. "So," The phone began to ring cutting you off.
"Hello?" You pulled the receiver up to your ear. It was your dad. He called once a day to check up on you and Stu. With a sigh, you held out the phone. "He wants to talk to you." Stu smiled grabbing the phone from your hand. "How's it going Mr. L/n?" Stu grabbed the whole phone off the table sitting back on the couch with it. Billy pushed Stu's feet off his legs when the boy tried to use him as a footstool.
"No way! You didn't have to get me anything." Both you and Billy rolled your eyes. Every day your dad called and spent at least 30 minutes talking to Stu. When he first came over you were terrified of what your dad would think of your friend. Now you would pay him money just to dislike him a little bit. It bugged Billy to no end. Your dad didn't know of Billy's existence but he was best friends with Stu. He loudly laughed thinking what your dad said was hilarious. "Give me the phone." Stu looked up at you holding out your hand. "Sorry man Y/n wants the phone back." Your father because of his job and other factors had no one but you to talk to but you. When Stu came along and they got to know each other your dad felt like he was a kid again. Stupid jokes and random music trivia were all the two men talked about.
"Hey, Dad I'm kind of in the middle of something." Both boys on the couch made a face knowing that didn't sound the best. You pulled the phone away as your dad barked through the device. "I didn't mean it like that. We're trying to talk about school." Billy looked over at his partner. Was that all this was about? If so he had nothing to worry about. Now if this serious talk you had to have was about what he said earlier that day then things weren't looking too good for the boy.
"Yes, I'll call you back later and tell you all about today. Yeah okay, I love you too." You sat the phone down ending the call. "Maybe I can actually talk now." You said with a forced laugh. Your boyfriends did nothing but stare at you with concerned faces. Tough crowd. "I have had a wonderful week with you two. It's honestly been amazing."
"But?" Stu asked knowing Billy fucked this up for both of them. "But you two need to move back home." Stu immediately got upset. His hands covered his face trying to keep his composure. Billy just sat quietly like a dog who knew he was in trouble. "It's what he said isn't it?" Stu asked with a huff. You didn't think he'd throw his friend under the bus like that but here you were. "Not entirely. I'm not even really that upset about it anymore. I just think we need some time apart. Get used to going back to school and being normal kids."
"Would you stop using that word?" Stu snapped. You scrunched your face in confusion. "What word?" If you wanted "normal" neither he nor Billy could ever dream of giving it to you. Stu jumped up off the couch in disbelief. "We're not normal. We're fucked in the head. Like hello?" He shook his hands gesturing to the both of them comically.
"You said we were supposed to have conversations. Talk about things as a group but you're just making decisions." Considering this was your home you thought you had the right to tell them to leave. "I know you're upset that's why we need to separate for a bit. We're all becoming dependent on each other. First, me and Billy fought and now we're getting into it. Maybe we've been around each other too long?" You tried to rationalize the situation but it did no good. Not only did Stu feel like he was losing you he was also losing the home he felt he had. He'd have to go back to the horror house that he'd grown to hate. Billy stayed silent. "This is all your fucking fault." Stu pointed at the boy on the couch hanging his head in shame. "Get off my ass," Billy mumbled in response knowing he played a big part in your decision. "No fuck that man!" Stu shouted pointing at the man still sitting. You held up your hands trying to stop the beginning of a fight. "Stu this isn't his fault. I just need space."
That was a worse word than "normal". Space meant drifting apart and drifting apart meant this would be over. "My dad is usually home one week out of the month. You two can come and go as you, please. I'm just saying we shouldn't live together. Hell, we can have sleepovers if you want to. I'll paint your nails and do your hair but you can't stay here. You knew this wouldn't last forever."
It was true. He thought about the day he'd have to leave almost every night this past week. The reminder made him sick like a kid during the last week of summer break. You walked over wrapping your arms around Stu. Billy watched as guilt pooled in his heart. Stu looked pathetic, his face red trying to stop himself from crying.
You pulled away from Stu as he shook his head trying to fling the tears from his eyes. The plan he just came up with made Billy's skin crawl but he knew it'd help speed up the healing process. Stu's back stiffened as his lover hugged him. It was an intimate act Stu hadn't had the pleasure of receiving from Billy. "What the fuck?" Stu mouthed silently as you shrugged. Billy didn't understand how you made changing for others look so easy. He could lie and charm his way into getting anything he wanted. Afterward, he went right back to being the shitty teenager Stu fell for. Stu gave and Billy took that's how the relationship worked before you showed up.
Stu seemed to melt into Billy's embrace. Billy wasn't sure why he had such a disdain for hugs or other physical contact. It wasn't the feeling itself, no the closeness was what the boy craved. It could've been the fear of getting used to the touch. If sex was what he needed he could go out anywhere and get it. The same moans and sweat, nothing different. His partner's touch, however, that he couldn't get anywhere else.
He feared that this was it. You and Stu would ruin anyone else for him. You'd both eat away at his brain like maggots driving him insane. He still wasn't sure if this "thing" was love but he was damn sure it was destructive.
"I'm sorry for shouting," Stu said once Billy dropped his arms. "It's okay." You reassured watching Billy sit back down as if nothing happened. "Can we spend one more night?" The sorrowful-filled question made you giggle. You were infatuated with two of the most over-dramatic men in the world. "Stu, this is not the end of the world. You sound like you won't wake up tomorrow. Things are gonna be fine. I promise. Billy help me out here." You looked over to the boy with his head down.
Billy cleared his throat. "She's right. You're being overdramatic." You frowned as the boy grinned. That's not at all the kind of reinforcement you asked him for. "Oh, I'm overdramatic? You woke me up the other night listening to Stevie Nicks sing about fucking landslides on repeat. Not to mention your ass was crying." Billy stood up pointing a finger at Stu. "Don't bring Fleetwood Mac into this that's different and you know it." His voice was deep and serious which only made it funnier. You smiled thinking about the fact he was listening to your song over and over. "Guys go get washed up so we can start dinner." You dismissed them both with a grin on your face.
The night continued with you being strangely happy. Both men noticed. The hateful things Billy said to you at school were practically erased from your brain. You had this image of Billy sitting in front of the record player listening to a song he knew you loved. Listening to it over and over trying to remember every word of it because you loved it.
That on top of the fact you had Stu wound so tight that the idea of being away from you was upsetting. This was his home and you were his girlfriend. It wasn't a possessive thing to you. You were happy they depended on you. After all these years you had people who cared about you. They could rely on you and you hoped you could rely on them without having to bail someone out of jail.
"Ow fuck!" Stu cursed pulling his hand back from the hot stove. Before you could help Billy stepped in. "You're such a dumbass give me your hand." Billy shook his head as he ran Stu's hand under some cold water. You watched silently not wanting to disturb the two. You wondered how they lived together before you came along. Based on how you thought of them you assumed Billy would be demanding and hateful to his roommate. While Stu was probably clingy and loud. You were wrong. They were just two confused lovesick teenagers. Sure they had obvious flaws but deep down they weren't much different from the other kids.
"Babe, where do you keep your bandaids?" Billy asked noticing you staring off into space. "Oh um, there's some under my bathroom sink." With a nod, he went off toward your bedroom. "Something's different about him," Stu said striking up a conversation with you. You walked over to stir the mac and cheese.
"What do you mean?" Stu moved his head back and forth because he couldn't gesture with his hands. "He's happy can't you tell?" You couldn't help but scoff. If that was Billy happy then you'd pay money to see him elated. "I'm being serious, he's upset about what he said to you today but you haven't noticed how happy he's been this past week?" It hadn't occurred to you that Stu knew Billy way more than you did. You assumed Billy's helpful nature was just something everyone had to stick around long enough to see. "He's not like that all the time?" Stu couldn't believe you were that oblivious.
Billy was sweet but he was never comfortable. Always afraid of someone walking in, seeing or hearing something they shouldn't. Just a few months ago Billy would've told Stu how to help his hand. He might've even wetted a rag before tossing it at Stu. He was kind but never close. If the two had sex Billy had to flick the lock on the door several times making sure it was locked. The lights would be dim and they would both try to be quiet. The simple hug Stu got from Billy earlier almost sent the boy into shock. That was another reason why leaving your house killed him. He was scared of losing all the progress he had made with his partner.
"You know if somebody robs this place they're going after money, not your bandaids," Billy said walking down the steps. You moved away from Stu starting to set the table. "They were right in the front." Billy laughed at your response as he ripped open the package with his teeth. "You had them crammed behind towels, hairspray, makeup, should I go on?" You shook your head at his exaggeration. Stu looked over at you making sure you took note of Billy's behavior that night. With the package open he dried off Stu's hand placing the bandaid on top of his burn. "That's going to blister so don't pick at it." Billy flicked the wound smiling when Stu winced.
To you, it was a rude thing to do but Stu knew it was how Billy showed affection. "Thanks, pal!" Stu said sarcastically holding his hand. "Anytime." Eventually, you all sat down eating dinner rather quietly. It finally dawned on everyone there that the boys were going home. If Stu's parents were still home Billy would just sneak through his window. Both men knew why Billy stayed away from his own home.
"So..." You spoke trying to break the sad silence. What Dewey told you to do was easier said than done. "Do you two have any plans this week?" That was a normal question, right? Both boys looked at each other in amusement. "Not anymore," Stu said with a scoff. It was petty but you knew he'd get over it eventually.
"I'll probably stop by the video store on the way to Stu's place and stock up on movies for the week." Billy shrugged before taking another bite of his food. A look of confusion appeared on your face. You huffed out a laugh realizing that they couldn't separate. "I thought your parents were still home?" Stu waved you off with a laugh. "Since when has that stopped me? He'll just crawl through my window like he always does." Billy elbowed his partner making the boy groan.
You couldn't help but feel a little upset that you'd be alone while the two of them spent time together. Billy started to smirk as he saw the look on your face. "Having second thoughts?" He asked thinking your jealousy was amusing. "No, I still think time apart will do us good." You stood your ground. "Why the switch up? I mean all week you seemed so happy with us and now you want us out. I get it if it's because of what he said but you're not even mad at him." Stu gestured to his lover and Billy had no objection. He was just as curious as Stu was.
Thinking of something to say without putting Dewey's name out was difficult. You liked Billy and Stu but you didn't trust them not to do something stupid. "Honestly? School was hell for me. The whole fucking place thinks I was sleeping with you and Tatum found out so we somehow murdered everyone."
Both men had heard the infamous rumor. Stu found the idea of you killing everyone rather funny while Billy was concerned with your reputation. "I- I've been looked at and talked about all day and then the one person who treated me with respect you lost your mind over him." You pointed at Billy as you spoke your last sentence. "I just don't want you getting hurt is all." He wasn't lying Billy knew better than anyone that men almost always had ulterior motives. When he first saw you walk into his 7th period his immediate thought was what you looked like under that dress.
You rolled your eyes taking a sip of your drink. "I've got to agree with him we're not the only fucked up people in Woodsboro. What if you became friends with Ted Bundy?" Stu raised his eyebrows with a shrug trying to add dramatics to his point. "If I told you two that some guy was bothering me what would you do? And be honest."
Billy laughed at the question. "If you think we have no self-restraint-" Stu spoke up cutting his friend off. "Kill him." With an open palm, you held out your hand gesturing towards Stu. Billy pinched the bridge of his nose. "What? Did I say something wrong?" Of course, Stu didn't understand how barbaric his statement was. "I'd talk to him. If he doesn't listen, well then we'd cross that bridge when we get to it." Billy's answer was better than Stu's but you weren't too sure of the truth behind it. "I just want to have friends. I don't care if you two have friends."
"That's a lie!" Stu said slapping a hand on the table. Billy looked over at the boy causing a scene. "You would be jealous as shit if me and Billy had girl friends." Billy's tongue prodded the inside of his cheek as he raised his eyebrows at you. It pained you that Stu was right. Earlier that day seeing Stu surrounded by those girls made your blood boil. "Okay fine. What if I introduced you to Chase and his girlfriend? They could sit with us at lunch."
"No that's our spot," Billy said matter of factly. "We've always sat there." Stu chimed in. "You don't have to move I'm just saying they could come over and sit for one day." Neither of the boys was persuaded. You groaned. Getting them to open up was like pulling teeth. "Come on guys just this once. Please..." You puffed out your bottom lip making Billy cringe. The act made Stu melt. You were adorable in his eyes.
Billy still wasn't impressed. You stood up walking over to the boy. Slowly you leaned down whispering something in his ear that would make a sailor blush with shame. "You're a bitch." Billy sighed as you smiled. "I know!" You chirped earning a high five from Stu.
"How does it feel to be pussy whipped Billy Loomis?" Stu spoke into an invisible microphone holding his fist out to Billy. You giggled watching the two get on each other's nerves. "At least I get pussy Macher." Billy raised his eyebrows with a smile. "You always have to hurt me!" Stu cried hiding his face from the boy. "Mrs. Brady here would be happy to lend me some, wouldn't you sweetheart?" Stu batted his eyelashes up at you. You started to clean off the table as the new nickname bounced around your head. "Mrs. Brady?" You laughed raking off the plates into the garbage. "I'm trying it out." He shrugged getting up to help you.
After dinner, you and the boys ended up on the living room floor cuddling while Mallrats played on the TV. Courtesy of the one and only Stu Macher. Billy's back rested against the couch while his arm was draped over your shoulder. Stu chose to rest his head on your stomach laughing every time it made an odd noise.
Little things like this made you question what exactly you wanted. You loved them you were positive. Part of you hated yourself because of it. It was too soon and you were just seniors in high school. You weren't sure if the voice in your head was you or Dewey talking. That discussion with him really bothered you. You wanted to ignore him and continue this little fantasy you had all made out but you knew he was right.
Once the movie ended you helped the boys pack their bags. "I'm calling you when I get home." Stu's words let you know that even though he was gone he made sure it felt like he never left. "I look forward to it." You kissed him for what felt like the first time. Billy smiled partly because the two of you were cute and the other part because he knew he was next. You pulled away from Stu helping him grab all of his bags.
"Don't think I'd forget about you." You grinned before kissing Billy just like you had Stu. His hands found your waist hoping to buy him and his lover some time. Your collar grew hot as his lips trailed down your jaw. "Okay okay, that's enough." Stu stomped his foot. "Damn it! It was just getting good." Billy had a stupid smile on his face making you roll your eyes.
"You two are perverts." You said as Billy started to pack out his luggage throwing it in the back of his car. "And you, my little freak are into it." Stu kissed your forehead making your cheeks grow warm. "Whatever." Stu picked up his bags throwing them next to his friends. "Drive safe okay?" You leaned on the door frame watching the two boys get into the car. "No promises." Billy laughed starting up the car. "I'll miss you!" Stu shouted hanging out of the car window. "I bet."
You watched the car disappear down the street. Dewey had heard Stu's shouting drawing him towards his window. The deputy didn't think you'd follow his advice. Sure enough, there went Loomis and Macher down the road. With a smile, Dewey closed his blinds getting back to his paperwork.

Okay, not to defend Gotham War or anything, but I think I'm talking myself into liking what I see it's trying to do. Starting with some great tags on this post:
#i get why people are hating on it i really really do. trust me#but TO BE FAIR... zdarsky has been making it overwhelmingly clear that bruce is SERIOUSLY unwell right now#like it's been nonstop Horrors for him for like. over a dozen issues straight. with no rest or time to process. and he doesn't have alfred#who was a HUGE part of his support system not to mention the finances etc etc#iirc there's even a panel that pretty much outright states that this is more of an issue of control than morality#and that includes the choosing sides thing like the batkids seem more concerned w how bruce is going off the fucking rails than#just the moral aspects#anyway (via @clownprince)
#Batman#Bruce Wayne#REAL#REAL REAL REAL#LIKE. Zur En Arrh is a LITERAL Defense Mechanism going Malignant at this point#Not only that but throughout Zdarsky's run there's been allusions to illnesses and Bruce Not Having A Good Time#Not Having a Good Time and Not Having Time At All to take stock of the sheer What The Fuck-ery that's been going on recently#Because it's been a CONSTANT steam of What The Fuck-ery nonstop#And the Worse is yet to come if one considers the future issues synopsis and the ''I am a Gun'' story by Zdarsky#(At most I'm a little bit concerned over how Zdarsky will try to wrap this up‚ but that's a normal concern especially about Comics)#(Especially Batman Comics considering how often Editorial likes to... do things) (via @kaosvrow)
I agree with so much of the criticism of Gotham War, especially that the arguments for or against Selina's plans are absolute garbage by characters who should be making better arguments and that the other characters are being used as bobbleheads instead of actually giving them their canon personalities--and, okay, I will also point out that in the VERY FIRST ISSUE, Selina's plan gets someone killed and so I'm willing to extend some grace that the story isn't trying to push forward that either way is actually right, I honestly don't think it's about that. I think it's a story about Bruce Wayne's mental state, because Zdarsky's been building this up for awhile now, like the issue immediately prior to Knight Terrors? Shows us Bruce's mental state is ALREADY absolute TRASH right then:
Tumblr media
Zur-En-Arrh was already leaking through the seams of his mind, he was already feeling the impending doom of everything he cared about being burned away, that his mind literally couldn't watch his kids being happy and together and getting along without feeling like it was all burning to ash.
And then Knight Terrors happened, which was one more thing digging hard, boney fingers into his trauma, and he handled it pretty well in the moment, but it's such a giant, non-stop pile of stress on a mind that is already damaged to hell and back because of his trauma.
Further, the very first issue of the Gotham War storyline? The very first panel, the one that sets up the stage of what's going to happen, makes a very clear point about how this is about Bruce fracturing:
Tumblr media
And then on the very next page, Zur-En-Arrh is literally stalking at the bars of the cage around Bruce's mind.
Tumblr media
And then Bruce wakes up and it's immediately more establishing just how worried everyone is about him because so much has been piled on lately:
Tumblr media
Bruce hides his missing hand from his family, just like he's trying to hide how scraped thin he is right now, and goes out on patrol.
Where his internal monologue is all about how defensive he feels lately, how he feels like the years are catching up to him, how nothing feels right but this, making it clear that Bruce is hanging onto Batman with a death grip because it's the only thing that feels stable to him right now.
Tumblr media
And all of this is in the first TEN PAGES of the first issue, this is our set-up, this is our foundation, this is what we're being given to understand what this story is about. Then Batman #137 happens and it's literally ALL ABOUT BRUCE'S MENTAL SPACE, that Selina's plan is the catalyst, not the driving point behind all of it. Again, I'm in 100% agreement that the Batkids are acting like cardboard cutouts because you will never get me to believe that they didn't notice crime going down or that they wouldn't be pointing out that Gotham's wealthy are just going to start making their security lethal in response or that the Court of Owls won't step in, that this is not a long term solution to giving these people lives beyond crime, or even that a lot of them should be agreeing with Bruce, that they don't get to decide who is an acceptable victim. But the story isn't really about changing up the way comics deal with crime, it's about even the Batkids are framing it in terms of how it's about Bruce. Jason is really the only one who seems onboard with trying out Selina's plan, but even his confrontation with Bruce isn't really about that, it's about all their baggage, their fight immediately becomes about how angry Jason is at the way Bruce has treated him. This fight isn't happening because Jason's a true believer in Selina's plan, it's happening because he's angry at Bruce and Bruce is in a shitty mental place, after all the non-stop horrors AND feeling like he's been betrayed by the kids who he thought understood that people being victims wasn't acceptable, and so he lashes out at Jason.

When they fight, it's not because they're siding against Bruce, it's because he's become unstable and dangerous. The why of it doesn't matter, it's not about that.
(And I'm actually okay with the way that fight happened because I can buy that, for example, Cass might be holding back against him, she's a stronger fighter than he is, but he's being ruthless because of the state he's in, while she might be feeling more cautious.) When they fight, it's not because they're siding against Bruce, it's because he's become unstable and dangerous. The why of it doesn't matter, it's not about that. Even further, when Bruce fights against his kids, he's wrong and biased, especially in the fight with Dick, who he thinks has a sloppy offensive and doesn't know darkness like he does--to which Dick just immediately cracks him in the face because, yeah, Dick Grayson does know darkness and Bruce isn't as untouchable as he's trying to make himself seem (because being Batman is all he has right now).

I think it's important that it's Dick who defies his expectations here, because this story is building off context of what happened between Selina and Bruce, that they were truly together for awhile, they were about to get married--Selina mentions that it the first issue, it's a major thorn in that conversation when she throws out how she doesn't believe that Gotham needs Batman anymore, it needs her.
She's giving him what he said he always wanted, she's giving him the thing that kept them apart, he should be happy, should they head to the church now? Saying that he won't because he wants to be Batman more than he wants to solve the city's problems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The failed wedding between them is important in part because of what Selina's saying here, illustrating that both of them are bringing a lot of baggage to the table but also because of what else happened during that storyline, why the context is so important. Because that storyline dovetailed into one about Bane wanting to take over Gotham and he needed Batman unstable and distracted, which was working after Selina left him at the altar, he was a mess. But you know what was saving him at the time, bringing him back from the ledge? THIS KID:
Tumblr media
Dick was the one poking and prodding at Bruce with jokes and warmth and care and it was working. He actually got Bruce to cry in front of him, to release some actual genuine emotion!
Tumblr media
Dick makes Bruce more emotionally stable, to the point that Bane had to hire KGBeast to shoot Dick in the head just because he was so good at stabilizing Bruce--this is also why Dick's the one who says he'll go talk Bruce down off his moral ledge in Batman #137.
So, it's Dick that has to be the one to defy his expectations in the fight, has to be the one who breaks through Bruce's offense and knocks him down in what feels like a betrayal even when it isn't, because this isn't a story about who's right and who's wrong, it's a story about Bruce isolating himself because he's mentally fractured to hell and back, because he's not trusting his kids, he's still hurt by Selina leaving him, he's still grieving Alfred's death, he's run ragged physically and emotionally and mentally by a series of exhausting horrors piled on him, he's lost his family's fortune, he's not even living in his own family home anymore. (I focus on Dick here as an illustration of tying this back to previous examples of Bruce crumbling and important context that the storyline is drawing on, but Gotham War isn't really specifically about Bruce and Dick's relationship, but more about Bruce's relationship with all his kids, like Tim and Jason and Damian all have equally important moments. But it's a very direct example of how his children are a huge part of his support system and draw him back from the ledge of being just Batman and back into being Bruce.) That's why the issue ends with Bruce getting the papers telling him that the bank sold Wayne Manor to Vandal Savage, because it's one more thing that's stripping Bruce Wayne away from the character, and leaving him with nothing but Batman and Zur-En-Arrh. Gotham War isn't actually a story about a war for Gotham. It's a story about Bruce Wayne going out of control and everything is written to serve that. The characters' fights are catalyzed by Selina's plans, but they quickly become about Bruce's relationship with the characters. The narrative makes heavy-handed points about Bruce feeling like he's losing his grip, that he's hallucinating and talking to himself, that he is extremely mentally unwell right now. Everything Zdarsky's been writing (like especially the "I Am a Gun" storyline right before Knight Terrors) has been building up to fracturing Bruce Wayne.
