〚 UNGLUED 〛DBHC: ETHO’s Official Playlist

Finally, Etho’s finished playlist is here!! This really feels like the culmination of Etho’s story built over the years and finally put down on paper, so below the cut is a detailed plot breakdown of every single song on this playlist—a small love letter from me to everyone who has been so supportive of this story and my art!

Also, I’ve uploaded WIP versions of every other DBHC playlist I currently have in the works to the account in the link, so if you’re interested in what songs are currently on other characters’ playlists, I’ll be updating the playlists on the 'Shepscapades' account every other week or so ;)

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing by Jack Johnson I could almost apply the last one to the dbhc au Ethubs (once again to clarify this is Shepscapades' au not mine!) It doesn't fit their vibes... but the pining. The whole waiting for the other idiot to understand I'm in love with him. IDK.

Of all of them, I'd probably recommend Golden Brown, Green Eyes, Everything Moves, Do I Wanna Know and Shadow in the Sun the most for listening to :)

There's something so... heart wrenchingly beautiful about Etho's playlist ending with a song called "Happier"

It feels like a "see you later" in weird sort of way? Not an actual ending or goodbye, but rather peace of mind knowing that in the end, perfect or not, everything ends up okay. All the pain and fear he went through was worth it. Because now he truly is "happier". He got his happy.. not ending, but happy life. It's not perfect, it's never going to be perfect, hell it's not even the end of his journey. There is still much more pain, and fear, and love that he has yet to experience, that he will experience because no matter what, he is human in some sense of the word, and that means he will never get an "ending" before the real end.

Yet despite all of that, ending on happier feels like meeting an old friend after growing apart, and finally accepting that it wasn't your fault. Finally getting the closure you needed. Finally being able to forgive and move on, because even if it's not pretty... it's better this way, and the journey is just a painful part of the beautiful destination where he is finally Happier.

FFFFF I'M GOING TO CRY, oh my god, oh my god yes. you get it. it's not an "ending" to his story, but its like a warm embrace and a reminder that all of his hardship has given him the tools to face whatever will come in the future--that's he's more equipped now, with both company and experience, to take whatever life throws at him in stride. Sobs into my hands, thank you this is such a beautiful analysis <3

I thought I escaped it but it follows me wherever I go (aka I’m in a production of Frozen the musical and it the amount of times I’ve heard that song. Holy crap. It fits so well but. Holy shit. Hit me like a ton of bricks seeing it on there) It’s like seeing your long lost best friend who you thought you shot in the chest but they show up back at the front door wearing a snowman costume with hand frozen trailing behind them. Listening to dbhc Etho’s playlist got me thinking about Joywave’s Destruction again, and even though I talked a little bit about this scene last year, I never really properly got to tell what exactly happened here… So, this is how it starts: Doc and X try to get Etho back online at the start of season 9 after his tragic shutdown at the end of season 8. Haunted and glitched out over the Last Life memories that made him shut down, Etho wakes up not… quite feeling like himself. Complications ensue.

So I kept running into this problem where someone would pick a song, and I would get so excited to finally draw something for that specific part of whoever’s story the song is supposed to represent that I would draw a million things for it instead of the like. one doodle or whatever I’m supposed to do for this challenge

That being said, this song is on DBHC Etho's playlist, representing the journey from Etho's reset Post-Destruction all the way up to the moment he re-deviates (though he doesn't let it show) <3 Cody Fry's take on this song and his orchestral arrangement is just heartwrenching /pos and I absolutely recommend you give it a listen! :]

I feel like this song also does a good job at representing a glimpse of bdubs' side of this arc... his longing and sorrow as he waits and waits and waits for his friend to come back to him, to no avail. I'm so very normal about Etho's Season 9 arc <shaking

Part 4 is finally here!! The last few months got so busy, but I would be lying if i said i didn't spend almost every day daydreaming about/ wishing i could be working on this instead; this project has been such a fun break from work and i feel like each part makes me crazier and crazier as things gets worse and worse (better and better) LOL. The composition has been sooo fun to play with, and I've been having a blast trying to figure out how to write these guys in character despite the angst and chaos :] And, considering this comic project kinda came out of nowhere and disrupted some other comic plans i had for dbhc, finding little ways to rearrange how i'm presenting lore has been really fun >:3

Finally! Part 3 is here!! yippee!!! As a refresher, this takes place at the beginning of season 9, when Doc and Xisuma try to boot Etho back up after he shuts down pre-Season 8 Finale, set to the vibes of Joywave’s Destruction from DBHC Etho’s playlist! Ouguguh I’ve been looking forward to posting this part so much; it has some of my favorite shots so far… something about the grey-fade of Doc going into shock, something about the last two pages with xisuma and doc’s expressions… idk!! i really loved working on these :] Hope you’re enjoying the horrific, horrific ride!! =w=

As a partially insignificant but Special-To-Me note: Xisuma has always referred to dbhc doc as “Docm”— this is actually the first time X ever calls him “Doc.”

Xisuma’s Season 8 has made me certifiably insane and I’m so glad this drawing challenge lets me out of my enclosure to share some of my insanity with yall— dbhc flavored, because of course! <3 This song is actually such a bop, highly recommend it!! It’s pretty early on in dbhc Xisuma’s playlist, representing the uh… Introduction/ Entering The Scene of a certain someone, and it foreshadows the horrific vibes of Xisuma’s season to come. I am so so so normal about this song, I’m positive it would be higher on the list had I found it a little earlier in the year

Although I will say, I was actually really excited to see this song rank at 69 because I knew people would request this number LMAO plus I’ve been drawing so much Xisuma lately so i was super excited to be able to draw and post some of my brainrot finally >:]

I’ve been playing around a lot with lighting and fun poses and stuff, so this has genuinely been a blast to work on :] Expressions have always been my favorite thing to draw but uh. There’s something particularly special about getting to draw chill/stoic characters like doc and etho um. Going Through It >:3 (Same with X but we’ll get there later)

Still don’t know how many parts this will be, but I’ll be updating each part as everything comes out! :]

36. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger — Daft Punk

This song kinda came on randomly and it almost immediately became the designated Pre-Deviant dbhc Doc song. I like how clean and robotic it sounds at the start and how the song becomes increasingly glitched out and unique/original as it goes— it kinda reminds me of the progression of doc’s programming slowly starting to question things and produce original thought until he realizes he can breach his programming and do whatever he wants, manipulating the beat and syncopation the same way he kinda starts manipulating robotics and everything around him :]

I swear I didn't know they were yours, I just thought they were fan made lists. But now all of them are missing so I'm guessing you privated them when you posted the mumbo playlist thingy out of caution. Either that or it's a coincident.

EEP Yeah no worries!! I honestly haven’t privated any of the in-progress dbhc playlists (or if I did, it was a long time/several months ago), they’re just all on a personal account so I haven’t put links to them anywhere yet. I made a more ‘professional’ account (under ‘Shepscapades’) so that I can put the finished playlists there and so they can be public/so I can share the links when I’m ready, but I’m fairly certain the only playlists on that account are the finished DBHC Etho one and the Souls in the Sand playlist.

All of the in-progress playlists will stay on my personal account, and I think the only folks who know about them/have links are folks from my stream discord, or anyone who’s made a lucky search. I would prefer that people not to go looking for the ones on my personal account, since I don’t want to have to private all of my unrelated personal playlists, and also because I’m planning on putting WIP versions of every DBHC character playlist on the more official Shepscapades account for when the Etho playlist gets posted, that way y’all can poke at all of the songs without them being linked to my personal account. Hopefully I’ll find a good rhythm to update the wip playlists on the official account every so often— not sure, I haven’t thought about it too much yet hehe
