And if you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? Howl's Moving Castle x Twisted Wonderland Au (Vil x Fem!Yuu) PS: This was written before Vil's new updates in the new chapters, I'm delving deeper into Vil's character and I know he's not just "a pretty boy" but for the direction of the story, he will have to follow this personality aspect a little more to this characteristic part of it. So I'm sorry if this isn't the most faithful fic to the character he is. I promise I will edit better, so that it has better quality.
Part1 You're here Next
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Bro, if you don't come soon I swear I'll get her alone!"- Ace stood with his arms crossed outside Heartslabyul's kitchen while Deuce carried a beautiful and tasty strawberry pie that Trey just made, the smell of pie woke up all the members of the dorm leaving them in a wonderful mood, if even the tyrannical Riddle smiled with that pie it would certainly work on Yuu too right?
"Don't rush me Ace! After all that stress yesterday the least we can do is apologize to Yuu."
"And you needed to give Trey more work and make him another pie so soon?"
"Well….er….With model students we must go beyond simple apologies!"- Suddenly, Deuce's jovial face turned red but he quickly remembered that shame should not stop him from apologizing to his friend.
"Come on! She's not even that mad!" raising his arms in resignation he continued “Okay, she is angry! But this happens almost every day, she is already used to it, and besides…” the nosy man put his finger in the gelatinous broth of the pie and licked his fingers. in such an unpretentious way “It’s not like she’s going to disappear out of nowhere and we won’t be able to say goodbye, she’s our friend.”
Deuce sighed heavily and finally agreed with his friend. Trapolla, with a genuine smile, began to remember some adventures they had already had and plan new adventures with Yuu and Grim would also love the antics. And hope filled their hearts. Planning after planning. After all, Yuu would always be with them, right?
Tumblr media
“I'm grateful that you managed to get here as quickly as possible.” With a serious voice, the old crow thanked everyone present in the mirror room, from teachers to leaders and vice-leaders, some of Yuu's colleagues were also there.
"We know it's something important Crowley, we need to discuss this as soon as possible" - it was in the middle of breakfast that Riddle heard ADeuce's desperate screams, and when he turned up his nose thinking that the morning had already started badly he couldn't imagine it would get worse.
“So what do we know so far? I only heard loud noises all morning” - the lion grumbled
“The members of my dorm, Ace and Deuce, when they went to pick Yuu up for classes early in the morning, discovered that Yuu and Grim had mysteriously disappeared.”
“Have you looked for clues in the abandoned dormitory?”
“ That's the problem: the entire Ramsharckle Dorm is gone! Not even a piece of wood on the floor, no ghosts, just a mark on the floor where he used to stand” Trey replied and while he already felt anxiety in his heart, he knew that the first boys must be feeling it more. When the two arrived screaming like maniacs in the dorm asking them to follow Trey knew something was strange, due to the fact that his precious pie was dropped on the floor. Not even in an overblot had Deuce dropped a cupcake, but a pie on the floor must have been quite a problem.
“Oh, now that’s a problem.” putting his hand over his mouth Jade whispered discreetly in Azul's ear
“There are rumors all over the school. How could an ENTIRE dorm disappear out of nowhere? What about our protection field?” Leona had had his precious 9am post-sleep nap interrupted when conversations from all kinds of beastmen started to get very loud and his sensitive ears picked up some things.
“I heard that Yuu hasn't shown up to class yet. Did you take their notes?”
“The meteor shower was incredible yesterday! I took several photos and posted them on Magicam!”
“There is a horrible smell near the statues of the seven! A very strong smell of rotten eggs and vinegar!”
" You will not believe! You know that girl's dorm without magic? IT DISAPPEARED"
“Our protective field detected nothing, no changes.”
“What if the dorm is gone but Yuu and Grim are still somewhere in the school? Can Rook use his magic and try to look for them both?”
The hyena knew two things: Nothing disappears without a trace and that Yuu would do anything for her and Grim to survive. No wonder she survived 7 overblots. They are alive.
“Yes, Monsieur Dandelion” when reciting his unique magic, the hunter combined it with a magic from his wand so that everything he was seeing, others would also see with a projection of his magical range - an idea that came from Yuu.
i s e e y o u
Spell cast but no result, Rook searched every dormitory and every hidden corner of the school, the deserts of scarabia to the bottom of the waters of octaveinelle, in the royal school, in the noble school, in the cities they had visited before but nothing… for one good period of time….nothing.
“Je suis désolé, I didn’t find anything”
“Oh for the seven! How terrible! What do we do?" Crowley, oh so sad, exclaimed.
“Did they come home?"
“Did she run away?” “But what happened that made her run away so suddenly?”
Some voices whispered among themselves, others created more theories about what could have happened.
Malleus was in the corner of the room, absorbed by the shadows of the room, he could see how each person missed Yuu and Grim and how emotions were expressed on their faces, but Schoenheit's looked strange, it wasn't the same expression as sadness that Heartslabyul's dorm leader,it was Silver's expression when he was a child doing something wrong and Lillia caught him in the act… oh yes… guilt.
“Let’s split up, if the dogs just whine, it won’t help anything!” with authority determined to find the two, Crewel spoke out -“The two first year pups, Trey, Riddle, Blue, Rook and Jack go to the Ramsharckle to inspect for any clues in the dorm, any smell, footprint, anything.
Ruggie, Jamil, Jade and Carter, I need you to interrogate the students and find out how the rumors came about and if we have any useful information. Kalim and Epel, stay in this group too.
For the rest, check the library to see if there is any phenomenon linking last night to Ramscharkle's disappearance and calm down the dorms.”
“Any information must be said immediately. Stay calm, we will find them.” concluded Trey and they were soon dismissed
"Child of man, how did you know that Grim would precisely knock down that vase?" - prince in all his wisdom, asks Yuu who had just picked up a vase from the shelf exactly 5 seconds before the monster cat appeared out of nowhere and knocked in the exact location of the vessel.
"Intuition." Malleus's gaze asked for more information and so she graciously gave it “It's when we have the act of perceiving, discerning or sensing things, independently of reasoning or analysis to conclude something, you know? “ “Could this be a magic that only belongs to humans?”
“I don’t think so Tsunotaro” she laughed so cutely “So when you get a feeling about something, go ahead, there’s a good chance you’re right.”
Go ahead
His eyes narrowed and followed Vil's movements, who silently took another path from the research group.
Tumblr media
Some things were discovered in each group:
1- The dormitory is completely gone, with all the members. 2-there is a very slight smell of Yuu in a single small section 3- Sam's friends saw Yuu just before the meteor shower started 4- Yuu was upset with some people (rumors) 5- All photos of the meteor shower are blurry 6- Absolutely nothing else
The students looked disappointedly at the paper list before handing it to Crowley, just some facts with few connections between them and no matter how much they looked for some magic or some phenomenon to explain what happened but the results of their efforts yielded nothing, just hearts. sad and heavy consciences and remained that way for a few days.
Until one day, the universe decided to smile at the boys again and especially at the manliest boy in Pomefiore who was pouting on his bed after being tugged on Vil's ear.
“Umnh…hello pewpaw?” “Hello my sweet! How are you?" his grandmother's voice calmed the lilac-haired boy for the first time in days “I’m fine grandma, things have been really complicated these days, but I’m trying hard to get stronger!” “Okay, grandma knows you’ve been having a rough day, so send an extra box of apple juice for you and your friends!” “Thank you, I’m sure they’ll love it-” “And Yuu, how is she?” my crush is missing in the middle of the world and we have no idea if anyone would say we will see her again, thank you “Well, she is… fine….but something happened that-” “Yesterday she said she wasn’t feeling very well, so I gave her that apple and lemon drink and wow! She looked really pretty!”
what WHAT?
“Yesterday grandma? What? Where?” genuinely confused and stunned even more so because Rook appeared out of nowhere next to him and silently asked to turn on the speakerphone on his cell phone. “I bumped into her in the village on Sage Island when we went to make some apple juice deliveries, I even thought you would be close to her with some friends! A pretty girl is not meant to walk alone!”
“How was she, grandma? Was she ok? Where did you see her exactly? “ Exasperated and anxious, the boy tried to control himself so as not to make it too obvious how worried he was! But Crowley, in all his old bird wisdom, ordered that no one should speak of this matter outside of the NRC people.
“She was in front of a store when we bumped into each other, I don't remember the name of the store because some were already closing. I don’t know why but she feels different”
“Like what grandma?” “Like…. magical…. but isn’t she the girl without magic who studies with you?” “Yes, yes… And!… ah… How was she d-different?" - increasingly anxious he had no idea what to think and what to ask without shouting that she was missing “I didn’t see him… um…. She likes it differently, I don’t remember what”
Rook thought of a strategy while Epel pulled out his hair, the hunter wrote on a piece of paper he took from the desk the most direct questions about what everyone wanted to know!
“Grim.was. with. her.? “I didn’t see him… um…. She looked different, I don’t remember what but it was the only thing I remember.”
“Did.she.tell.where.she.was going?” Rook's handwriting looked like a drunken French monarch writing, so give Epel credit for reading that riddle while he was trying not to pass out
“If she said, I don’t remember, she had some bags in her hand and that she had to run because she was in a hurry.” “Hurry.to.what?Hurry.to.where?”
“I don’t know Epel! I don't go around meddling in people's lives! Why are you so interested in her life? It’s like you don’t see her every day at school!”
“Sorry.dear.grandma.I’m curious.ha.ha”
“Anyway, do you know what happened here? Your uncle—-” the dear, sweet old lady couldn't finish the day's gossip because Epel had nervously hung up and ran off to send messages to the first-year students while running like crazy to Crowley's office.
Rook celebrated the victory and elegantly told the evil queen the news. Meanwhile, Lady Pewpeaw looked in the mirror and thought: I already know! She changed her hair! Or is it the hair that changes people? She looked very chic and elegant. Ahh, I hope my grandson Epel can win the heart of that beautiful girl!
As Epel ran with all the strength his legs could carry, which was a lot now that he was in the Spelldrive club, he sent messages to the other first-year students excited about the possibility of Yuu being found and a certain hunter was able to smile knowing that he would have fresh news to tell the evil Queen.
After a brief meeting between the first-year students and briefly with the leaders, Crowley allowed them to investigate possible clues. The boys searched every alley and store with their hearts burning with hope, Deuce was ready to hug her while Ace was preparing a lecture on why she disappeared out of nowhere leaving them all distressed. Jack concentrated as he remembered Yuu's familiar smell, the smell so different from the bunch of men in NRC, the smell that was unique to her. Epel was looking for the address that her grandmother had given her, always looking at the clock and the port, if she could only stay until sunset, that means she would have to leave before dark.
----- The sun finally set, giving way to the moon that illuminated the boys' journey back to school. The hopeful young hearts returned broken, hopeless, shattered, and without any trace of Yuu. Each one informed their dorm leader, Leona just turned her back and tried to sleep knowing that no matter how much she closed her eyes she wouldn't have rest until she found Yuu, Riddle for the first time didn't finish the strawberry pie, and Vil…. Vil was different. Vil was “strangely strange”, when even after receiving the news about Yuu's case he couldn't sleep properly, even with a beauty campaign that was going to make his skin wasn't radiant and a pimple appeared on the corner of his chin.
“The Campaign is tomorrow. How can I let such futile emotions ruin my skin just for tomorrow”? – the poisonous king thought as he touched up his makeup looking at a small hand mirror, taking care that his facial features didn't show the makeup.
“I can't believe we didn't achieve anything Jack!” Vil heard some voices in the hallway.
“It was a good attempt Epel. One time or another we will find an answer.”
“But…but we were so so close! I went to the exact store my pewpaw said but no clue!Damn! When the fuck we gonna have a track like this?!” maybe at another time Vil would fight with Epel for letting his accent come out rougher but the conversation was getting to the queen's delicate nerves
“In Tiana’s Palace there was only the smell of food, nothing of Grim or Yuu. I’m sorry Epel.” Vil might not have seen it, but he could have sworn Jack was rubbing his neck and looking down, probably feeling guilty about for not having found the prefect.
Is he to blame, Vil?
A voice called from the mirror and Vil was so scared that he dropped his mirror on the floor, breaking it into pieces, and he could no longer hear the gossip. But that wasn't the worst, my friends. The worst was right in front of the young prodigy's face. A wrinkle in the middle of the forehead.
“In the name of Gucci this can’t be happening!”
Is he to blame, Vil?
If he hadn't been so worried about his precious skin, he would have noticed a small bat watching him in a corner of the bathroom. Quickly composing himself, he headed to the Film Club at the appointed time.
The moon was shining in the sky and all Vil could think about was the last moments he spent with Yuu, if he said sorry, would she come back? No no, he's not the problem! This is pure coincidence! He turned over the bed and looked for his beauty sleep, but only found guilt and loneliness.
“Maybe a walk will help relax my nerves?” - he put a comfortable jacket over it before opening the door
It was supposed to be just a walk, through the hall of Pomefiore's grand corridors But Vil's desperation led him to the port of Sage's Island with his broom, looking for one last hope of finding Yuu. After all, to get a proper beauty sleep he had to solve the problem of his insomnia first. Some stores were still open, parties, nightclubs, a small village but so bright! With people laughing and talking, how lovely. Every person who recognized the celebrity asked for a photo and an autograph and the question he wanted to ask everyone died in his mouth. """Have you seen this person recently?"""
Putting his acting skills to good use, he put on his best face that didn't show how terribly guilty he felt and lost in his thoughts he entered the dorm, maybe the Film Club had something that could distract him, spend some time energy and quality sleep, maybe some sleeping pills… something…. the bedroom is not the best time right now, not when he can't sleep. And here he is, in the pit of frustrations. In the place where that day happened.
“The weather is pleasant tonight, wouldn’t you agree, Schoith?” Malleus's cordial voice cut through his train of thoughts, like the brakes on a speeding train. He had just entered the club, then closed the door. The atmosphere was strange, like sticking your hand in a hornet's nest with sleeping bees. What was the great one doing here?
“Greetings, Draconia. I thought I locked the door, the club is closed now. As you can see around, everything is a mess. ”- Vil gestured his arms indicating the mess that the studio was around, with open boxes and disheveled wigs, it seems that the students who remained there after he left did not clean up the mess, much to Vil's annoyance.
“What a vulgar club this is. With such vulgar fantasies.” Malleus's repetitive voice was like a poison, the atmosphere was no longer “strange”, it was cold and heavy, the heir of the Valley of Thorns did not hesitate to hide the contempt and hatred mixed in his words “And you are the most vulgar thing from here."
The bees woke up.
“Yes, it’s messy! A few rotten potatoes didn't clean up the mess, they'll see about it tomorrow! It's none of your business.” Angry, the bees buzzed away, leaving the environment more agitated and hostile. No matter how much Vil tried to remain classy, his eyebrows showed his indignation and his fists were ready to attack.
Malleus approached, circling the leader of the Pomefiore domain, like a predator and his prey. The prince's eyes shone a bright shade of green and his pupils became increasingly thinner. Through the window, some thunder and lightning ripped through the sky, revealing Malleus' internal storm.
“I heard that there will be an important campaign tomorrow. Surely, you don't go that way, do you? Please don’t ruin the Queen’s reputation, after all, how do you want to continue her legacy if you have broken nails like any commoner?” looking directly at Vil's closed fists, Malleus smiled with disdain and a slight satisfaction seeing the oh so beautiful Vil shaking with anger.
“How dare Malleus? I don't know what you're doing here but leave immediately!” - furious, the leader of Pomefiore took a step forward and pointed to the door, his face red and with some blonde locks falling from his hairstyle irritating him even more. He dripped snake venom into every word he said, but when has a dragon died from snake venom?
“It is very bold to challenge the Prince of the Valley of Thorns, Schothein.” Stepping forward and coming directly face to face with Vil, he laughed elegantly with mischief in every note- "Don't worry, I won't spend any more time with you, I'll just hand you a gift."
With all the doors and windows closed, Malleus raises his hand and a green smoke with sharp thorns invades the Film Club, and with a simple look thorns wrap around Schoith bringing him close and totally paralyzed, the heir's malicious laugh grows ever louder. But before he recites a macabre ancient magic, in a language that not even Vil himself understood, Malleus's power was clear, shining in an electric green, with his scepter firing across the entire environment. When he finished his rush, Malleus passed his cloak over Vil's body, which was still frozen on the ground.
“You won't be able to talk to anyone about your curse. Send my regards to Yuu.” That said, he just left the club with a Machiavellian glint in his eyes.
As soon as the door closed, Vil managed to release the air he didn't know he was holding, the smoke and thorns were breaking apart and erasing the tracks as if they had never happened. When trying to get up, Vil realized how weak his beautiful and athletic body was but it was when his knee creaked that even standing up he was paralyzed. He looked at his shaking hands, recognizing the familiar hands with veins and wrinkles looking like an old, colorless raisin.
“No…no…not again!”
He ran to the mirror of a nearby dressing room, and his ugliness was so great that he broke the mirror. A fairy's gift is a dubious thing, but coming from Malleus, Vil can confirm his greatest fears in the mirror: He was old and magicless.

Hi! I love your writing! Could you maybe do something for Eren where the reader is good friends with Jean and they hang out a lot, which leads to a heated argument with Eren, who ends up admitting his insecurities about losing her and it gets all fluffy and cute from there? Thank you💜🥰
futile competition;
Tumblr media
❥ eren x reader | 3k words | fluff
❥ in which eren gets a little envious & reader has to reassure him
❥ hi! thank you sooo much<3, i hope i did this request justice aksjskak, enjoy :)
Tumblr media
"jean, how did you even sprain your ankle in the first place?" you were sat idle on the wooden bleacher with jean next to you, the two of you conversing freely instead of jean being out practicing with the rest of the football team because of his sprained limb.
"i landed wrong during practice a couple days ago. when i went to the doctor they told me to sit out for two weeks."
"two weeks? so you're gonna miss next weeks game?"
"yeah but your boyfriend and reiner are two of the best players, they'll be fine without me for a game."
you shrugged your shoulders looking towards the field, looking for eren. during games you'd be able to spot him quite easily as he always adorned the large number five on his back, but of course like majority of the team he was shirtless, the only reason you could spot him being the way his bun was on the verge of falling out his hair and cascading over his shoulders.
"you're like the weakest link on the team, they're doing much better without you." you joked, causing jean to roll his eyes and shove you over in the slightest. "jean, i will kick you in the leg that's hurt, stop." your giggling made him break out into a smile, him putting his hands up in mock surrender.
jean and you were quite good friends, occasionally hanging out in and out of school, you having met him through your closest friends sasha and connie. the only reason that you two were hanging out during his practice was because you told eren you'd wait for him afterwards so you could spend this friday with him to his request.
"jaeger, focus!" the coach exasperated, flailing his arms outwards at eren's fumble. eren cursed under his breath, and wiped the sweat off of his brow, looking away from you and jean before picking himself up off the ground. "go run a lap and stop letting your girlfriend distract you. everyone else go get water then locker rooms!"
you chuckled at eren being disciplined, watching him make his way out the field to the track to run his lap, jean laughing beside you. "he's such a kiss ass, he's just trying to impress you." jean shook his head as he spoke.
"i don't know why, we're already dating."
jean nodded his head in agreement, grabbing his crutches and pulling himself up. "do you need help?" you questioned standing up abruptly to help him steady himself, a subconscious reaction if you must, as it was just in your nature to be helping.
"nah, nah, i'm good, i'm not disabled or anything, it's just a sprained ankle." jean shrugged you off, and it's true, he was of course fine for the most part, but he also didn't want eren getting angry at a simple gesture from you, as he tended to do quite often. "let's just go back to the gym."
୨୧
eren exited the empty locker rooms, clear irritation spread across his face. his lack of concentration during practice, and jean's stupid face flirting with you was fogging his mind.
"eren!" you called out to your boyfriend, him turning his head after nodding a small goodbye to his coach. you gave jean a small hug before he started waddling away on his one foot and you starting to make your way towards the brunette, eren struggling to suppress an eye roll. "hi baby," your arms wrapped around his waist and he hesitantly reciprocated, letting his circle your shoulders.
"hey." his tone grumbly and dry, but you didn't let your mind wander too much on it.
"i see practice wasn't the best today. was it because of me?" a mischievous grin graced your face as you and eren began to exit the gym, heading towards his car.
yeah, something like that.
"no, it was fine, i just slipped up a couple times." your thumb brushed over eren's hand a couple times before he pulled back to pull his keys out of his backpack that was hung over his shoulder. "get in the car," and then him unlocking it with a press of a button, his presence leaving your side as he went over to the drivers side of the car. you didn't like the way he so casually brushed you off, as eren was usually excited to see you after practice. he would occasionally shower you in kisses, and wipe his sweat all over you and have you shuddering in disgust, but the aloof personality taking place was never present to you, so of course you couldn't help but think it was strange.
you slid into the passengers seat with your own bag sat in between your feet on the floor, and initially decided not to converse with the boy for the rest of the car ride, leaning your head against the window and occasionally glancing at eren who you didn't even see look your way once. seriously, what was his problem? if you knew he was going to act like this while you were at his house the rest of the evening you'd would've went home faster than he could blink.
"______, c'mon." eren murmured before he shut the door to the drivers side, walking towards his front door leaving you still attempting to collect your belongings so you could follow him. you were so stuck in thought that you didn't even realize the two of you had made it to eren's house.
"_____, hi! it's been so long since eren has brought you home, how are you?" mrs. jaeger's (who many times has insisted you called her carla) cheery tone flooded your ears as you entered the household, eren shutting the door behind you and barely even uttering a 'hi.' to his mother or mikasa. despite this you couldn't help but smile at carla, the lady was so sweet and kind and you genuinely couldn't figure where eren got his temper, or stubbornness from.
"hi mrs. jaeger-"
"please, just call me carla." her figure danced her way towards you and her nimble fingers turned you around facing the stairs so she could shed your backpack off for you, and only then did you realize eren had disappeared from sight, leaving behind only the sound of creaky stair steps.
you sighed, and of course carla put two and two together, but not before mikasa who was sat on the kitchen stool facing the stairs as well, in the middle of helping eren's mom with kitchen work. "what's wrong with eren?" she brushed aside her ebony hair and made her way over to the stairs, carla placing a hand on her shoulder to halt her movement.
"mikasa honey, just leave him alone for now, he gets like that sometimes." carla gave you a sorry smile already knowing her sons antics. "i'm sure _____ will get through to him if that's what he needs, right?" mikasa's eyes flickered to you, an unreadable, almost blank expression on her face before she nodded and you let out a small, "right," her walking back over to her position at the stool.
"do you want any snacks, or anything? i know it's been a long day at school and all,"
"it's fine mrs. jaeger, i'm not hungry."
"alright, will you be staying for dinner, i could make your favorite?"
"i'm not sure yet," as many times as your answer would be yes you weren't lying, with eren's strange demeanor you weren't sure how long you could stay in the household even with carla catering to you, her joyous aura wasn't enough.
"okay well let me know, i'll let you go now," she leaned into your ear, her black strands tickling your face, "let me know if anything."
soon enough you were following in eren's steps on your way to his room. you slowly pushed the oak door open seeing eren wasn't in his room and assumed he went to take a shower. you had no problem sitting and waiting as it gave you a second to conjure your thoughts as well, you taking a spot on his bed.
it wasn't long before he appeared back though, him opening and closing his door, eyes flashing to you for only a second. he threw the towel around his neck that was stopping his damp hair from dripping onto his abdomen onto his desk chair and slid on only a pair of sweatpants before crawling on his bed. "scoot over," and you did, making space so he could lay next to you, the smell of his body wash evident on his skin.
the slight tension was unnerving as you played with your fingers where they sat in between your crossed legs, eren paying you little to no mind. "what's your problem?" you couldn't help but ask, as many times as you played the details of the day back in your head you couldn't find a bump in the road, anything that would make him act so distant.
"my problem? i don't have one."
you struggled to not roll your eyes, instead raising a brow. "seriously? you didn't talk to me in the car, you're barely talking to me now, didn't you want me to come and spend today with you?"
"yeah, but i'm sure you rather be spending today with jean, right?"
oh.
you pursed your lips, narrowing your eyes at the boy who's eyes were finally fixated on you. your arms crossed and you bit back an insult, since one was definitely a part of the options you were weighing in your brain. "excuse me?"
"you heard me," he sat up, his muscles flexing underneath his skin as he propped himself up on the bed. "you and him have been so comfortable lately. i'm pretty sure you hang out with him more than me anyways." he huffed, a fire blazing behind his turquoise eyes (which not to mention you always found mesmerizing, even through his anger.)
you grimaced, eren was clearly blinded by his frustration. he seemed to forget how you came over almost every weekend, not to mention a few times throughout the week as well, how you spent majority of lunches with him and how the two of you were a literal couple. it wasn't your fault you and jean had more than one class together, and seemingly got along. he was good company, you couldn't deny that, and you knew him before you even knew eren.
"eren i spend so much time with you, what the hell are you talking about? is that what's bothering you?"
"it doesn't bother me," and of course he was lying straight to your face. "i could care less. do what you want with horseface."
okay now he was being dramatic.
you stifled a laugh at the stupidity that escaped his mouth, how could he make such a vague assumption? "you could care less? so why are you acting all pouty and not talking to me? if you didn't care we'd be all good right now, stop being all mad for no reason."
"i have a reason to be mad,"
"so you admit that you're mad?"
"i mean-"
"and if you're mad then you obviously care?"
"can you let me talk, damnit? you always do that, just let me talk."
"then talk, eren, it's gonna be nonsense anyways. why can't you just trust me? i've been friends with jean before we even started dating, if i wanted him then we would've been a couple before me and you."
"that doesn't stop him from flirting with you and being all touchy and shit, i don't like that,"
"it doesn't matter what you like or not, it matters what's true, and whats not true is that he flirts with me, he doesn't, and he's not touchy either, you're literally being delusional."
"i'm delusional?" this time eren rolled his eyes, his voice raising in the slightest and he was now sitting straight up, giving you a small shove in demonstration of what jean did earlier. "when he shoved you like that he wasn't flirting with you? and when you two were laughing and shit he wasn't trying to flirt with you?"
"eren don't touch me," you pushed his hand away once it made contact with you, a crease in your eyebrow evident from your rising anger as well. "we can't laugh now? like what the fuck sense does that make to you? you're literally just jealous."
"jealous of what? of kirstein?" disbelief was evident in his tone.
“who else? nobody just acts like that for no reason, you’re jealous, eren.” you began to stand up ready to just leave, crawling over eren’s body to make your way towards the door. you couldn’t stand when eren couldn’t admit to his fault, i mean; it was his fault right? he was stubborn, and it was irritating.
but eren on the other hand couldn’t let you leave, he didn’t have time for his mom to scold him for upsetting you, or for mikasa to bombard him with aimless questions, better yet, for jean to find out the two of you were fighting, or worse, fighting over him.
before your hand could reach his doorknob his hand reached your wrist, eren pulling you backwards towards him in the gentlest manner he could muster, you turning towards him your expression still vexed. “eren, just let go of me, i get it.” but his grip remained, him using his other hand to turn your frame towards him by your waist.
"i’m not jealous, i just feel like i shouldn’t be having to compete with another guy for my own girlfriend!" he sputtered abruptly, and the hand on your waist clenched at your t-shirt, while the grip on your wrists tightened. you were caught somewhat off guard looking up at eren, curiosity brewing at his sudden outburst.
“what?”
“i just... i don’t want to lose you to some idiot,” he could no longer meet your eyes, his facade dropping and a new side of him he hadn’t shown being unveiled to you.
“eren..” your free hand rested on his shoulder and you slowly walked him back towards his bed until the back of his knees hit it and caused him to plop down on the covers, “baby, you’re not gonna lose me... you couldn’t lose me over something like that.”
eren’s gaze was still shy to meet yours, but his other hand made its way to your waist as well, pulling you down on top of him until you were straddling his lap, him pulling you close so his arms wrapped around you. “i know, but...” he struggled to get the rest of his words out, not even sure how to convey them to you regardless of how understanding you’d be with him.
“eren, look at me,” you grabbed his face between your palms, smoothing out his loose brown locks so you could get a clear sight of him, training your eyes on his. you loved the way blue swam across his green eyes, and the way his bottom lip jutted out slightly as if he was constantly pouting. he was so gorgeous to you, even through his anger. “i’m yours, i’m all yours, and you’re mine. nobody, not even jean can get between me and you, i love you, i date you. jean and i are just friends, and you don’t need to let him get in your head like that.”
eren pouted his bottom lip before leaning his head against your chest, you raking your fingers through his hair until the hair tie loosened around it. he relished in the feeling of your warm skin against his and your hands attempting to place another messy bun in his strands of damp hair. “i just feel like i’m not doing enough for you sometimes... like he could give you something that i’m not.”
“eren you are enough for me, like i said, i’m dating you, not anyone else, if you weren’t doing enough for me i wouldn’t be with you. i love everything about you baby.”
“you sure?”
“yes, why wouldn’t i be sure? even with how stubborn you are, and how angry you can get, and how jealous,” you lifted his head from your chest, pressing your lips to his forehead with a grin. “you can get, there are so many good aspects about you that i love and i won’t leave you because. you know... just don’t hurt me.”
eren couldn’t help but let a smile grace his own face as well, hands drifting up your back until they reached the back of your head, pulling you down to connect your lips to his fervently. you loved the way his lips felt on yours, his slightly chapped but so perfect when paired with your own. his attempt to deepen the kiss was futile as you pulled back with a giggle, eren shaking his head and laying back pulling you on top of him some more, his arm wrapping around your shoulder as he pecked a kiss to your hair.
“so i’m not gonna lose you?”
“no baby.” another peck to his chest.
“you love me? and my anger issues, which i don’t have?”
a roll of your eyes and another laugh let out from you as you kicked his leg from under yours causing him to laugh as well, subconsciously squeezing your body tighter on top of his. “i love you, and your anger issues which you do have.”
eren pinched your sides, smirking from above you. “i love you too, babe.”
a quick knock at the door made both you and eren turn your heads, but the door was open before eren could even utter a “come in,” carla’s figure with a worried expression on her face that quickly turned to surprise when she noticed the two of you cuddling. “oh! i’m so sorry, i heard the two of you arguing earlier and i thought she had left when i was upstairs, i-“
“mrs. jaeger, it’s perfectly fine.” you smiled picking yourself up off of eren awkwardly who sat up as well.
“mom! you could’ve waited after knocking!” eren groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“you guys are so cute,” her hand covered her mouth as she squealed, smiling sweetly at her son and you. “are you staying for dinner, _____, it’s almost ready, i’m having mikasa set the plates now so i want to know.”
there was no harm in staying a little longer. “sure, i can stay.”
“great! okay, i’ll leave the two of you alone now.” soon after, eren’s door was shut and the remnants of carla’s voice wandered as she walked down the hall, something resembling an “oh, they’re so adorable!” and you and eren couldn’t help but laugh.

I’m so sorry this has taken so long. But I hope you enjoy this chapter.💕
This gif has nothing to do with this chapter. But look at this moron🤣🤣 I love him.
Tumblr media
Leighton’s head was splitting when she woke up the next morning. She was vaguely aware that she was in her bedroom but she wasn’t quite sure how she got there and she still had all her clothing on. She sat up slowly, and looked around. The rest of the apartment was quiet, and he curtains were closed. Her shoes were by the bed, and the picture on her dresser was moved.
Then it hit her.
Her memory was foggy but she could see a hazy visual of Mat carrying her into the apartment. She had almost fallen and then almost kissed him.
Oh great.
She huffed and rubbed her forehead. She didn’t often drink, and when she did never that much. But being in Mat’s presence, and seeing the ring on Kaitlin’s finger had rattled her so much, she just got a little out of hand. It was stupid. She had said no. She had drank her weight in vodka. And she needed Tylenol and a drink. Ginny was sitting at the kitchen island eating cereal.
“Morning.” She watched as Leighton disappeared behind the fridge door looking for water.
“Stop staring at me Ginny.”
“The last time I saw you that trashed was at Brad Smith’s party senior year. You were so drunk…that was the night you-“ she said giggling.
“Okay okay. I remember.”
Ginny chuckled “Mat brought you home last night.” She said casually, chewing a spoonful of cereal.
“So?”
“So. Did something happen?”
“ No nothing happened. He’s engaged to…whatever her name is.”
“All I’m saying is I saw that look. It’s the same look he used to give you four years ago.”
“Look I am hungover and I am not in a good mood. He’s engaged and he brought me home last night because he just wants to be friends-“
The doorbell rang just them interrupting her speech. Ginny frowned and slid off her stool. When she opened it, Beau of all people was standing on the other side of the door holding a carrier with three large coffees in it.
“Morning boozy.” He said giving her a smile as he breezed past Ginny and set them on the island.
“Oh my god I think I’m in love with you.” Leighton took hers gratefully and sipped it, feeling better instantly.
“So….” He asked leaning on the counter “Did something happen last night?”
Ginny chuckled and shook her head blowing on her coffee through the hole.
“You guys are the worst. Nothing happened.”
“Doesn’t mean you didn’t want it to.”
She rolled her eyes “Can you two leave me alone.”
“No.” They said in unison.
********
“So how was the rest of your night last night?” Kaitlin asked over breakfast. Mat shrugged.
“It was fine. Leighton and Beau got along pretty well. She had a little too much to drink though.”
“Was she okay?” Kaitlin looked genuinely concerned.
“I think so. She’s just going through some stuff right now is all, with the move and adjusting.”
“You should help her Mat. I’m sure she would really appreciate it. There’s that team party thing on Friday, I’m leaving that morning for a few days. You should take her.”
If Mat hadn’t just set down his fork he would have dropped it. Kaitlin must really feel secure about their relationship if she was giving him an invitation to go hang out with his ex girlfriend. Was this a test? He felt he was in dangerous territory and no matter how he answered it wouldn’t be right.
“Oh Kaitlin. I don’t know.”
“We’ll think about it. I’m okay with it.”
They ate breakfast in relative silence until Kaitlin left him to shower and pack for her trip. Mat sat down in front of the tv, and absently flicked through the channels, not really watching what was on it. His mind started to rewind.
Music was blaring through Katie’s Miller’s house. While the rest of the guys on the team were yelling and carrying on about winning, mat and Leighton were out talking quietly. The ride to the house had been short, too short to have real conversation and he had been dying to get her alone since then. She looked so damn pretty leaning forward against the railing of the deck.
“You played good tonight.” She said smiling “Or at least I’m pretty sure you did. Right?” He laughed. It was kind of endearing and actually nice that she didn’t know anything about the sport. Sometimes he felt a tremendous amount of pressure to perform because of the promise of making it to the nhl. He didn’t have to be Mat Barzal NHL hopeful with her. He could just be Mat.
Before he could answer the party goers behind them started chanting and they turned to see Cody and some other guys assisting Ginny in doing a keg stand. Leighton rolled her eyes.
“She’s a real piece of work eh?”
“Eh? What is that a Canadian thing?” She teased. Mat blushed.
“I guess.”
“It’s cute. I like it.”
I like you. He thought to himself.
“So how did you and Ginny meet?”
“I sit next to her in English class. We were partners for a project.”
“I’m surprised someone else didn’t try to fight you for it. Boys break their necks just to talk to her.”
“So I’ve noticed. I don’t know….she’s cool, but I’m a little more interested in someone else.”
She quirked an eyebrow “Oh yeah? Who’s that?”
Feeling bold, both from the beer and from the high of victory, he smiled at her and shrugged “ There’s this cute little blonde she hangs out with that caught my eye in Math class. In fact. I’m pretty sure that I’m failing because I spend so much time looking at her.”
Leighton let out a small laugh and turned to him, hair spilling over her shoulders. She turned her head to the side and looked up at him through her eyelashes. Gosh they were long, and her eyes were so big and caught the light every time she blinked.
“I’m sure she probably thinks your pretty cute too.” She said quietly bringing him back down to earth.
“That’s really funny, because I’ve been thinking about kissing her.”
“Okay I’m ready to leave.” Mat jumped as Kaitlin set her suitcase down on the hardwood. She was smiling at him as she pulled her coat on and shook out her hair. He stood to kiss her and say goodbye. There was a cab waiting to take her to the airport.
“I love you.” She said wrapping her arms around his neck.
“I love you too. Have a safe trip.”
“Mmmm. Try not to have too much fun while I’m gone.”
“Never.” He said running his hands up her back “just gonna hang with Tito probably.”
He didn’t miss the look of distaste that crossed her face and it annoyed him a little bit. Kaitlin had this idea that Beau would break them up or something and he wasn’t really sure why.
“We’ll have fun at your team thing. Are you going to ask Leighton to come?”
“Oh I don’t know. Maybe.”
They chatted for a few more minutes before she kissed him one last time and walked out the door to the cab. He pulled his phone out, opening his contact list up and scrolling to Leighton’s phone number. He debated for several seconds before closing her contact and then opening it again.
Hey. It’s Mat. There’s a thing on Friday and Kaitlin is out of town. She suggested I ask you. I thought maybe we could do dinner or something beforehand? I’d really like to catch up.
She responded soon enough for him to be hopeful, but long enough for him to sweating out her response.
Sure. That sounds nice. What time?
*******
“So it’s a date?” Beau said nudging her several times. Ginny was sitting on her other side and let out a small chuckle. Beau had insisted on taking them to lunch, waiting around while they both showered and got ready. Leighton had a feeling that he not only wanted some gossip, but he was trying to gauge how much charm it would take to win Ginny over.
“It’s not a date. Just a dinner between old friends.” Leighton said sipping her water.
“Old friends who used to bang.”
Leighton nearly choked on her water and felt her cheeks get red. Sending Ginny a glare she stabbed at a piece of chicken with her fork.
She was looking forward to spending some time with him. Sober. But she was also painfully aware that it was strictly dinner between friends. Even though she wasn’t around, he did still have a fiancé. Even though Beau reminded her “She’s awful.” It didn’t change that she existed.
That didn’t stop her from pulling out all the stops though. She spent some extra time on her hair and makeup, and pulled on her favorite black sweater and dark jeans and boots.
Ginny was out somewhere, but had also been invited and would meet her there later. She hurried out of her apartment, and by the time she made it to the front of her building Mat was waiting there, leaning against his car. He looked up, and blinked at her for several seconds before he smiled.
“Hi. You look nice. Ready?”
She felt like she was going to throw up as he opened her door and guided her into the car with his hand on her lower back. While he drove them to wherever they were going, she really looked at him. He was so different yet the same. Same eyes and smile, but his hair was longer and the years in the NHL had given him extra muscle.
“Stop staring at me.” He said, giving her the side eye, but he was smiling.
She chuckled and looked out the window at the buildings “ So where are we going?”
“To dinner.”
“Okay but where?”
“In a restaurant? Where else would we be going?”
She rolled her eyes “Your so annoying.”
“You haven’t seen me in four years and your telling me I’m annoying? That’s hurts L.”
She felt a tiny pang at the nickname he used to call her, and he must have too because his smile faded a bit and he cleared his throat.
“Uhm anyway…So where is Kaitlin tonight?”
“Uhm. She’s on a work trip in Florida or something. She said I should ask you to come to this thing. If I didn’t Beau would have thrown a tantrum.”
She smiled “I like Beau. He’s funny.”
Mat knew she meant as a friend but he felt a tiny twinge of jealousy. He wanted to be the one making her laugh, not Beau.
“I’m really glad you guys get along. He and Kaitlin don’t always.”
Leighton pursed her lips “Yeah I’ve noticed. What’s that about?”
Mat shrugged “Honestly, I’m really not sure. They’ve just never gotten along. It’s not easy, I’m not gonna lie to you. I’ve never had to deal with it before.”
In high school, his friends and teammates loved Leighton, and loved them together. It had been easy and when Beau and Kaitlin ended up on bad terms, Mat didn’t know what to do.
“I’m sorry Mat. That must be tough.”
“It is. But enough about that.” He said parking the car and turning to her smiling “Lets go. I want to catch up with you tonight, and not talk about that.”
*********
“Did you break up with Kaitlin. My man!” Mat turned as Jordan slapped him jovially on the shoulder, big smile on his face.
“Did I what?no.”
His smile faded and he frowned, looking confused “Well then who’s that?” Mat sighed. Leighton had been friendly and charming to all his teammates she had met so far. Her big smile and soft eyes drew people in like a magnet.
“That’s Leighton.” A collective gasp went up around the table. Most of his teammates knew about Leighton in some form.
“Leighton as in the girl you asked to marry-“
“Yes Marty let’s just not go there.”
“Does Kaitlin know she’s here?”
Mat opened his mouth to answer, but Beau spoke first “Who cares?”
Jordan and Marty laughed, both shaking their heads.
“We’ll I have to say Barz this is one I like. I’m so happy you moved on from Kaitlin.” Sydney had now joined them, smiling widely at him, missing Marty shaking his head at her trying to catch her attention. Beau started laughing and Jordan was smirking as he watched Sydney furrow her eyebrows and look between them.
“What’s so funny?”
“He didn’t dump Kaitlin. That’s his ex girlfriend.” Marty mumbled in her ear. Her eyes widened and she chuckled awkwardly and gave him an apologetic look.
“Oh. I’m sorry I didn’t-“
“Do you guys really dislike her that much.” He looked around the table. They wouldn’t meet his eyes but they all shrugged.
“It’s not that she just isn’t- what we would expect.” Sydney said choosing her words carefully “This one.” She said jerking her head in Leighton’s direction “Is more someone I could see you with.”
“Plus she has a smoking hot friend.” Beau added in. Ginny had just arrived, greeting Leighton at the bar and ordering a drink. Sydney rolled her eyes.
Matt spent the rest of the evening not really listening to what anyone was saying. He could t believe how much his team and their wives and girlfriends disliked Kaitlin. The more he thought about things the more he realized he had been missing all the signs. Kaitlin rarely came to games and when she did she always brought a work friend and didn’t sit with the other girls. She never went to any WAG gatherings or out with them for dinner or drinks. And here was Leighton, someone who had been absent for 4 years, fitting seamlessly into the mix, laughing and joking with them over drinks. It didn’t add up and it was frustrating. It was even more frustrating when he found her leaned over the bar top talking with the bartender.
Tall, black hair, well built. She definitely had a type.
He cleared his throat as he approached, causing her to turn to him. It was almost 1 am, and he was mad and tired.
“ Hey, it’s getting late. Are you ready?” She turned and smiled at him but shook her head.
“Actually.” She glanced at the bartender “ I think I’m gonna stay.” The bartender was giving him a smug look. He had watched him give Leighton one too many once overs and flirty smiles, and he wanted nothing more than to punch the guy in the face for doing it, which didn’t make any sense.
She was his ex girlfriend. He had moved on, why couldn’t she? She was too good, too special to be thinking about going home with a bartender with bad tattoos and no real value for her. He couldn’t tell her not to, but he could try.
Mat reached for her hand pulling her to him “ He’s not good enough for you.” He whispered and turned walking through the crowd and put into the night air. Leighton stood mouth open watching him leave.
“So anyway I get off in-“ the bartender said leaning forward but Leighton had walked away from him, following Mat outside. Who did he think he was? He couldn’t say that to her. He was engaged, and here he was trying to make her feel bad about flirting with a guy she wasn’t even going to call again.
He was on his phone ordering an Uber when he heard the door bang open.
“Hey!” He spun to find Leighton standing on the steps hands balled into fists at her sides. She looked angry, her eyes were wide and her cheeks were flushed.
“Don’t say things like that to me!”
“Leighton I-“
“He’s not good enough for you? I don’t need you inside my head anymore. It’s not up to you to decide that for me. You have fiancé, you moved on. Why can’t I ?”
“I didn’t mean it that way, I just meant -“
“No! I don’t care how you meant it. It’s not fair to me and it’s not fair to kaitlin either!” She gave him one last glare before she stormed back inside.
He let his head fall back and huffed out a breath. He knew he was being stupid, and unfair to everyone including himself. He slipped into his Uber mind going a million miles a minute.
What the fuck was wrong with him?
********
“I’m ready to leave.” Ginny turned and found Leighton flushed and angry behind her.
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m just ready to leave.”
“Okay.” Without a seconds hesitation she tossed her drink back, and paid her tab following Leighton out the front of the bar. As soon as the door shut Leighton exploded. She was talking so fast and so angrily Ginny could barely understand what she was saying but got the gist of it.
“And then he said ‘He’s not good enough for you’. What the hell does that even mean? He can’t say that to me!”
“Oh you two. I wish you could just both realize you still love each other and fix this whole mess.”
“I don’t love him.” Leighton said scoffing and folding her arms as they walked and argued.
“Oh my god, shut up L. Be honest about this for once in your life.”
“I’m done taking about this.” She snapped. They walked the rest of the way in silence each slamming their bedroom doors. They threw themselves into bed, stewing for a few moments before pulling out their phones. They both had multiple notifications, tagged posts and follow requests from various teammates and wives. Leighton liked them all, even making plans for shopping with a few and she and Ginny had been invited to dinner with others. She sighed and rolled over, tossing her phone aside, before she spoke out loud to the darkness.
“I hate you Mat Barzal.”
********
1,339 miles away Kaitlin washed her face and go ready for bed in her hotel room. She settled in and pulled her phone out as she turned the tv on and flicked the lamp off. She scrolled through Instagram and immediately noticed several groupings of photos from some of the other wags. She scrolled through a feeling of dread coming over her.
Leighton and Ginny were both in many of the photos, smiling and toasting with drinks like they had known them forever. They looked so natural, like it was where they belonged. All the wags had already followed both of them, commenting back and forth and arranging to get together. She got more annoyed as she scrolled but when she scrolled to the last picture she got angry.
Mat and Leighton were standing smiling at each other, a candid photo taken by Lauren Eberle. He was looking at Leighton like Kaitlin had always wanted him to look at her. She closed the app, and put the phone down, blinking away angry tears.
Things were going to change when she got back to Long Island.

Red Binds

//
Soulmates were amazing, there was no denying that. The idea that somewhere in the world a person made precisely, perfectly, only for you existed was ecstatic, magical one could even say.
But red tight strings clutching your very own wrist wherever you went was annoying to say the least. You always had this pesky feeling of entrapment clenching your skin and it was utterly unbearable.
You couldn't do anything to loosen the string, it could only tighten. Not enough to block your blood circulation but it certainly wasn't comfortable.
The most irritating feature that having a soulmate entailed was the inability to do certain things. The vexatious string never increased in length, only shrank: every time you and your soulmate got closer, the string shortened, decreasing the distance you could be apart.
It often happened in the worst situations: there were certain moments in which you couldn't join your friends outside just because you and your soulmate were too far away. You even had to ask one of your dorm mates to switch beds with you, hers being closer to the door and allowing you not to sleep on the edge of it. You still had to sleep with your arm dangling because the string was too short, but it was better than sleeping on the floor.
You were envying all of the people that seemed to have found their soulmate, not because they had finally uncovered their one and only, but because they were finally free from their silky restraints.
In fact, once you and your soulmate met, the strings loosened considerably. They also allowed much more movement because when one encounters their soulmate they are finally free.
A peculiar kind of freedom. You wait all your life bounded by these red cuffs only to be freed by someone who will remain by your side forever. Peculiar indeed, yet reassuring. You were rather skeptical about it but you would have given everything to find your soulmate and finally have your wrist released.
It wasn't easy, however, to find your soulmate. You couldn't just follow the string, no, it would have been way too easy. The string was magical of course, it became invisible after a few inches, the being visible only for a certain length before disappearing into thin air. It was still there, you were sure of that, but it couldn't be seen and thus it couldn't be followed, making the whole process of finding your special someone much more difficult.
As of you, though, the grim condition imposed by the universe was getting out of hand. Sadly, not literally: the string was still tightly latched on your wrist.
You were walking rather happily down the corridor towards your next class, trotting down the hallway with your friends beside you when something made you harshly stop.
Your arm hanged in mid-air, stretched by the scarlet silk which had caused all of your books to fall from your hands to the ground.
You received a couple of sympathetic glances from your friends who helped you collect your belongings but the situation didn't change: you couldn't still reach your next classroom. It was getting really ridiculous.
You waved your friends goodbye, asking them to give your excuses to McGonagall who would have, luckily, understood the circumstances, and tried a different way, hoping the string who allow it.
You took a few steps but had to stop again: you wondered whether your soulmate was having the same problems; maybe he was just sat at his desk, listening intently to the lesson, unlike you.
You clutched your books to your chest and made your way back to your common room. If you couldn't attend the lesson you would have at least gotten ahead with your homework.
You were about to enter when you had to stop again. You couldn't believe it: the string was now so short you couldn't even go inside your common room.
After a rapid series of curses you decided you had enough: you would have treaded every single corridor of hogwarts to find your soulmate if it meant you would have finally been able to go wherever you wanted, whenever you needed.
Your steps were steady and sure as you tried yet another different direction but they soon faltered when you started questioning yourself: what if your soulmate didn't attend hogwarts?
That would have been a problem indeed. But how couldn't they live there? The string didn't allow you much movement anymore, they must be here.
So you started confidently trudging once more, though the tiniest bit of insecurity was hidden in your resolved expression.
"I'm sorry!"
"Don't worry."
You were so engrossed in your own thoughts that you didn't even notice the figure that bumped into you.
You quickly resumed your path, still thinking about all the possible eventualities, and quickly found yourself back in front of McGonagall's classroom.
You were confused. Just moments ago you weren't even able to come close and now, now you were there.
You hesitated to open the door and instead ran outside, as fast as you could, almost expecting the twine to eventually block you. But it didn't.
You swiftly changed direction and ran back inside, easily reaching the farthest point from the lake near which you were just a few moments ago.
You took a moment to catch your breath and for the first time you actually noticed something new.
Your wrist didn't ache. Not at all. The flaming twine bounding your wrist was still there but you couldn't tell it was unless you actually looked at it.
Everything came together. The stranger you bumped into was unequivocally your soulmate.
Really a shame you didn't even glance up at him when you ran into him.
You retraced your steps to the corridor, but obviously he wasn't there anymore. You frantically searched for the stranger but how could you find him when you didn't even know what he looked like?
You were now walking way slower than before, a resigned air on your face as you almost dragged your feet across the floor.
"I'm sorry, it's the second time today, i should really begin to watch where i step..." you confessed as you bumped into yet another stranger, only this time you actually took the time to look at him.
He had blond hair, so light you swore it was blinding, and eyes that sent a shiver down your spine just from the cold they seemed to emit.
"Yes, you should." you scrunched up your nose in response, the tone of the boy in front of you too haughty for your liking. "And you should also stop running around the school, it was incredibly difficult finding you."
Your face immediately relaxed into a surprised one at the realization.
"So you're..."
"Yes."
"And you were looking..."
"For you, yes."
A smirk took over your features and you quickly jabbed him in the chest.
"Ow! What did i do?"
"You made my life very much complicated! I couldn't get to class today because you were merlin knows where!" your tone was neither angry nor reprimanding, the smile adorning your features very easily giving you away.
"You were the problem here! I had to follow Snape's lesson from the corridor because of you!" his voice was soft as he spoke, a fake frown dancing lightly on his face.
You tried to stifle a laughter looking down between you, but when you looked back up you realized you were closer than you expected.
"Draco Malfoy." he extended his hand to you even though he didn't have to move much because of the small distance that separated the two of you.
"Y/n Y/l/n."
His gaze never once left yours as he gingerly took your hand in his, guiding you away from the empty corridor, and, although you were now free, you squeezed the hand he gave you, wishing to never part from him again. Maybe it was worth in the end.
//
So this was yet another soulmate au... I don't know how to feel about this but it's been in the drafts for too long so here it is...

In all the nights you slept next to Ash he was never quiet, but you got used to his snores by now, almost to the point where you found it hard to sleep when he was not around. But tonight he was quiet, and it was a sudden kind of quiet, the one that could make goosebumps appear by the side of your neck.
First, you thought he was asleep, although sleep hasn't come easy for him lately. A few days ago he started to have a horrible cough caused by the smoke in the air of L.A, a common occurrence thanks to the fires and the heat, but the coughs were so bad it almost prevented him from getting any sleep at all. He was coughing not too long ago, maybe a few hours ago? maybe minutes? So the silence unsettled you to the point of near desperation.
Something was wrong, you could feel it.
“Ash?” You asked in a whisper, but he wasn’t answering “Ash? Are you alright?” Still, no answer.
You could hear the sirens going out at the back of your head “Something’s wrong” They said, “Has it ever been this cold?”
You turned immediately, finding Ashton laying on his back with his eyes closed in a peaceful frame, but that didn’t make you jump out of the bed. No, it was the fact that his chest was not moving that got you up on your feet in less than a second.
“Ash!” You yelled but you got no response.
His hands were cold and clammy, a greyish color tinting them as you could feel him slip away. And you were not going to let that happen.
It took you less than a second to call 911 and put it on speaker as you took off the sheets from his body and started compressions, thanking every god there was for that class you took to become a first responder.
You counted in your head each second that passed you by, measuring your compressions to the beat of that old song, 1, 2, 3… till you got to thirty, laying down to breathe into his mouth a couple of times before starting all over again.
All the weight of your body was pushed through the heels of your hands, pressing firmly and steady into Ashton’s chest.
“C’mon baby!” You cried, feeling how your tears fell from your eyes into his chest “Please, you can’t die now! C’mon!”
In the back of your head you could already hear the front door opening and the heavy footsteps of the paramedics climbing up the stairs, but not once did you stop until you heard the “M’am! Please step away, we’ll take it from here”
You felt a hand wrapping around your arm and pulling you away from Ashton’s body as another paramedic took your place and started doing compressions.
“Please, help him!” You yelled between sobs as the other paramedic led you out of the room and closed the door “Please!”
“Ma’am,” The paramedic said, “Is there someone that you could call? You shouldn’t be alone”
“M-my phone,” You stuttered through a cry “My phone is in the room”
The lady nodded and walked right back into the room, just in time for you to hear a “I can’t find the pulse!”
You felt the way your knees gave out as you fell to the ground, sliding your back down the wall as earth-shattering sobs ran through your body and made you shake uncontrollably
Ashton can’t die. He can’t. He’s barely in his twenties, he has so much to live for! His fans, his friends, his family… How are you going to tell Anne Marie about this?! What can you say? What can you do? It was only a cough! And now he was-
“Here,” The lady said, handing you the phone and placing a hand on your shoulder. “We’re doing everything we can. But I have to tell you that it doesn’t look too good and that you should probably call someone to be here with you. The police were already informed and they’re on their way”
“P-police?”
She nodded “It’s the law to call them when-” But she didn’t finish the phrase, she didn’t have to. You already knew why.
With shaky hands, you called the first number that came through your head, the only one you knew would pick up this late and that would be here the fastest. If what you thought was happening was really happening, then you knew he would want to be the first one to know.
“Hello?” Calum picked up immediately, and despite his sleepy voice, you already knew he was up from his bed “Y/N? It’s two a.m. What’s happening?”
But you couldn’t even say it. How could you say it? How do you tell someone that his best friend might be-
“Y/N?”
“It’s Ash. He’s- He-” You managed to say between the sobs, breaking down completely.
“I’m on my way” Was all Calum could say before ending the call as he sprinted to his car.
You sat there with your knees pressed to your chest, hearing the muffled voices of the people that were surrounding your bedroom.
A million things were running through your head as you cried silently. You felt a crushing pain through your shoulders but you paid no mind to it, after all that pain will disappear with time, but the pain of losing Ash? How could you ever come back from that?
You weren’t ready. You weren’t ready to say goodbye, you weren’t ready to let him go and live your life without him. It was too soon, too sudden. It didn’t feel like the end but what if it was?
“Y/N!” You heard someone call at the end of the hall.
Calum was standing there, panting heavily almost as if he ran there in the middle of the night. He was wearing his sleeping sweats and a big shirt, mirroring your own outfit as your world fell apart. You got up in a jump, running to him and engulfing him in a hug, hiding your face in his chest as you let yourself break down again. Seeing him there made it all real.
“Shh, it’s okay” He tried to calm you, but you could tell by the beating of his heart that he was just as scared as you were, he was just better at hiding it “Y/N, what happened? Is he okay? Where is Ash?”
But before you could answer, the door to your bedroom opened as a bunch of paramedics took Ashton in a stretcher to take him to the ambulance.
The image of your boyfriend’s body surrounded by doctors and pumps that helped him breathe would haunt you for as long as it needed, but it’ll always be accompanied by the words:
“He’s back! We have a pulse and we’re taking him to the hospital”
*
The white lights were blinding and burning your eyes. You haven’t been able to sleep in almost two days but you barely felt tired, all the adrenaline of that night still lingered on and as you held Ashton’s hand, you wondered if it’ll ever go away or if you’ll have to stay alert at all times.
Ashton glanced at you from time to time as the doctor explained what happened, tugging on your hand with reassurance for he knew that reliving that night must be very hard for you.
“... It wasn’t just a cough, Mr. Irwin. It’s possible that you already had a pre-existing condition that was affecting your lungs and the smoke in the air just made it trigger; it expanded to your lungs and heart, making it impossible for the air to run through smoothly. We were able to fix it thanks to the quick response of your partner, had she waited just a couple more minutes to start compressions we might’ve had a different ending today”
You closed your eyes and pressed your lips on a thin line as the tears came crashing down silently. Just thinking of what could’ve happened made your entire body go limp as the images of Ashton laying in your bed, cold-stone and without breathing filled your head.
“Thank you, doctor,” Ashton said with a hoarse voice, still recovering from everything. “Can I have the room, please?”
The doctor nodded and smiled kindly at the two of you before walking out and leaving you alone in the hospital room. And only then did you allow yourself to let out the cry that’s been burning at the back of your throat, letting your head fall on top of his hand.
“Baby,” Ashton cooed, softly running his hand through your scalp “It’s okay, Y/N. I’m okay, you hear them say it”
You lifted up your head, holding tightly to his hand as your red, puffy eyes took him in. He still had the same smile that made you fall for him in the first place, and you don’t ever want to imagine a life without it. Ever.
“I lost you…”
“And I came back,” He said, cupping your face delicately. “I came back because of you. You saved my life” You shook your head “Baby, you did. If it wasn’t for you I-”
“Don’t say it,” You begged, swallowing hard “Please don’t say it. I don’t want to hear it ever again”
Ashton’s eyes softened, he had no idea what you went through in those moments for he doesn’t remember anything other than going to sleep and then waking up in a hospital bed surrounded by you and his friends, all of you with tears running down your eyes and dressed in your pajamas.
“I’m sorry I left for a moment and you had to go through all of that” He softly offered and you chuckled despite yourself.
“You know you can’t use the “I’m sorry I died” excuse forever” Ashton laughed.
“Can I use it on Michael?”
“Maybe,” You smiled at him, wiping away some of your tears. “It was really scary, you know? I was really scared”
“I’m sorry”
“It’s okay, just - just don’t do that again, please?” You asked, letting out a breath as you held his hand tightly “I won’t be able to do all of this without you. I’m not ready and I won’t ever be”
“I wouldn’t dare” He smiled, bringing you closer for a small, sweet kiss “I’m not ready to let you go, either”

you belong with me
Day 11, story #1 is by @accio-broom
Title: you belong with me Author/Artist: accio-broom Pairing: Arthur Weasley / Molly Prewett Prompt:  Soulmate AU Rating: T Trigger Warning(s) (if any): None, unless Arthur Weasley trying to enjoy his birthday offends you.
When Arthur Weasley woke on the morning of the 6th February, nothing was out of the ordinary. He took his time, easing out of sleep like a man with nothing to do. He stretched out his body with a loud yawn, then pulled back the curtains of the four-poster bed, ignoring the attack of the winter air that filled the dorm room.
He was going to have a perfect day.
Wiggling his toes on the plush rug next to his bed, he greeted his fellow dorm mates.
“Morning, Ry.” Arthur tipped his head towards the Gryffindor on the bed opposite him. “How’s it hanging?”
Ryan was not a morning person, and he grumbled at Arthur before snuggling further under the duvet. Arthur chuckled and joined in the conversation about the latest Quidditch scores, trying his best to not lament too long on the disappointing Cannons scores. He gathered his wash bag, and made sure he had clean briefs with his uniform, then waved a cheery goodbye as he wandered off to the bathroom, whistling as he moved.
Today was Arthur Weasley’s birthday, and the day he came of age, although the notion was rather peculiar to him. He didn’t feel all that more responsible than he did yesterday, but according to Wizarding Law, he could now leave school, get a real job and get married, should he wish.
He scoffed as the thought of getting married flitted into his head, disappearing as quickly as it came. That would mean actually landing himself a girlfriend, something he hadn’t yet achieved during his six years at Hogwarts. He hadn’t even come close.
As he showered, Arthur mapped out his day in his head. If it all went to plan, he’d enjoy a big breakfast with the rest of his school friends. His classes today were straight forward—double Muggle Studies this morning, then Potions this afternoon. Between these would be lunch, and a free period, where hopefully, he’d be able to go for a fly, if the weather was okay.
If he survived the day, then he and his friends were planning a night of wizard chess, birthday cake and butterbeer, which hopefully Ryan was going to sneak from the kitchens for them.
Shower done, he dried himself off in front of one of the mirrors. As he did, he examined his body. He didn’t look any older than yesterday, there were no new lines or hairs on his body. He was still the same gangly lad with violent red hair and far too many freckles to count.
Arthur settled his glasses on his face, then loosened his towel. Without warning, a soft femine voice filled his head, taking him by surprise.
Merlin, I hate red hair.
Tightening the towel around his waist, he looked around the bathroom for the source of the sound.
“H-hello?” he called out, but the only reply came from the echo of his greeting bouncing off the tiles. “I-is anyone there?”
I wish I were blonde or a brunette—anything but this. Nobody fancies redheads.
His heart pounding, he checked all the nooks and crannies in the room, only to find that he was the only one there. The tips of his ears turned bright pink as he turned his attention back to his reflection. Dark circles sat under his eyes, and a frown covered his face. He was tired. It was the only explanation for the voice that was still filling Arthur’s ears with insecurities. There had been a few late nights in the library recently, as well as some early morning Quidditch practices. They must be catching up on him.
He’s no spring chicken, after all.
Hurriedly pulling on his uniform, he combed his hair then carried on whistling, hoping to block out the now persistent voice in his head.
The girl’s commentary didn’t stop whilst Arthur ate his breakfast. It filled his ears, dragging his shoulders down with negative thoughts and observations.
Everything is so greasy here, the voice wailed. No wonder I’m putting on weight. I’ll get spots if I carry on eating like this. I wish Mary wouldn’t wear so much perfume. It makes me feel sick.
The negativity depressed Arthur and was the last thing he needed on his birthday. He’d hoped for a nice day, full of presents, and easy lessons and time spent with his friends, but instead, Negative Nancy was ruining his time. He didn’t even fancy opening his gifts, which had been delivered by owl mail just as he sat down for breakfast.
Glancing down the table, he tried to work out the source of the interference in his brain, but the Gryffindor table was full of people, and conversations flew around them from every angle. He sniffed, wondering if Mary’s perfume could lead him in the right direction, but all he could smell was baked beans.
With a sigh, he shoved his second sausage into his mouth, letting the taste of his favourite breakfast food cheer him up, even if it was only a little bit.
Muggle studies was Arthur’s favourite topic, but he found it hard to concentrate as his head filled with arithmancy. He hated the subject, there was a reason he didn’t choose to continue the subject after their O.W.L.’s, so it irritated him greatly that the thoughts were disrupting learning more about muggle bridges. They were such beautiful contraptions, too.
Lunch was just as bad. Although the voice was annoying, Arthur was starting to get used to it. However, what was infuriating him was how familiar the voice sounded, yet he couldn’t work out who it belonged to. Whenever it filled his mind, it brought warm feelings and stirred something new deep inside his belly. Whatever was happening to him, he felt awkward that he was getting a very up close and personal look into someone else’s thoughts. Throughout the morning, he’d experienced such a vast range of emotions, and he felt like he might explode.
His birthday was going downhill rapidly.
By the time Potions came around, Arthur was exhausted. He arrived at class before the rest of his peers, and as soon as he settled into his usual seat, he folded his arms and rested his head on them. He was about to drop off to sleep when…
“Good afternoon, Arthur. Are you enjoying your birthday?”
Arthur’s ears pricked up. It was the same damn voice he’d been hearing all day, but this time it was loud and happening outside his head. Peeking over his arms, he watched as Molly Prewett sat down next to him and gave him a warm smile.
It was her, the voice inside his head. How had he not realised this before now?
Although he and Molly weren’t best friends, she had been his potions partner since their first year, and they often found themselves sharing a table in the library late at night. Could she hear his thoughts the same way he could listen to hers? Or was this all one-sided?
“Oh, yes, it’s fine,” he said, finally lifting his head from the desk. “Perfectly spiffing.”
Perfectly spiffing? He’s never spoken like that before, and definitely not to Molly Prewett. He usually chooses his words carefully around her, not wanting to look like an imbecile.
She giggled, and Arthur goggled at her. Was she only laughing at his choice of words, or was his internal commentary amusing her. His pulse started to quicken. There had been many thoughts throughout the day, some that would mortify him if anyone else heard.
Arthur checked on Slughorn, who was distracted writing today’s recipe on the board. Summoning the courage, Arthur took a deep breath then reached out with his mind. He crossed all his fingers and toes that this would work as he thought hard.
“Hello? Molly?”
All of a sudden, Molly sat upright in her seat. Her face turned towards him, and even through the smoke from their cauldron, Arthur could see that her eyes were wide, and her jaw was almost reaching the desk.
“Arthur? Oh Merlin, is that really you? Is it your voice I’ve heard all day?”
“Yes? I mean, I think so. I’ve been hearing your voice since I woke up, and I was curious to see if you could hear the same.”
A red blush crept from Molly’s neck and onto her cheeks, and Arthur was sure it wasn’t from their cauldron or the heat of the dungeons.
“How much did you hear?” Molly averted her gaze from him.
Arthur paused, weighing up his options. Should he lie and protect Molly from inevitable humiliation? Or should he tell her the truth? It was a difficult choice, and both came with a list of pros and cons. But Arthur wasn’t a dishonest man, and if this problem continued for much longer, Molly deserved to know what she was exposing him to.
Plus, if she was experiencing it too, then she probably had a good idea of what he’d heard.
Reaching a decision, he flexed his mind again. “All of it. I’m sorry, Molly. I tried my best to ignore it all, but it’s all I can hear.”
“What’s going on? Do you think we should go and see Madam Pomfrey?”
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Arthur couldn’t help but chuckle. The mind-reading was not an illness or spell damage, and they hadn’t been near each other recently, save for right now.
It’s no coincidence that this started on the morning of his seventeenth birthday, and his brothers had mentioned something similar happening to them, although at the time, Arthur put it down to them yanking his wand. They often liked to tease him, as older brothers do.
It was Percival who’d mentioned it, while they were tinkering with a Muggle car in their father’s garage last summer.
“So, this school year is going to be fun for you, Arthur,” he’d said, a smile on his face. “Coming of age, you’re allowed to go to Hogsmeade without supervision, you’ll hopefully get your apparition licence too.”
Arthur had smiled, his stomach lurching with excited nerves. “If I pass.”
Bilius had piped up. “The family record is five attempts.”
“And Dad has never grown his eyebrows back.” Percival smirked at his brothers.
Arthur joined in with the laughter, relishing getting to spend time with Percival and Bilius. Percival had married almost straight out of school, and although Bilius remained single, he was always away on secret missions for the Order of the Phoenix.
Grinning at Arthur, Pervial spoke again. “Of course, apparition isn’t the hardest thing you’ll have to deal with. If the voices start, you’re in for a treat.”
“Voices?” Arthur fumbled with his screwdriver as a frown appeared on his face.
“Yeah, don’t you know?” Percival continued, adding oil to the engine. “When Weasley men come of age, they have a special way of finding their one true love.”
“What? No, you’re making this up. This is all fairy tale nonsense, surely? Bilius hasn’t met anyone!”
“How do think Perce landed his wife so quickly?” Bilius laughed. “Wasn’t his charm or good looks, that’s for sure.”
Percival and Bilius had erupted into giggles again. The tips of Arthur’s ears burned pink. There was no way this sort of thing happened, they were just having him on. But still, the thought had appealed to him. He was so unlucky in love, that the thought of being able to automatically identify his future wife had piqued his interest for sure.
Would he be like Percival or Bilius? Only time would tell.
Arthur hadn’t thought back on that conversation since it had happened. But if what his brothers had told him was true, then there were worse women in the world to be hearing in his head. Molly was kind and pretty. He’d always had a soft spot for her, but he’d never acted on it for fear of being rejected. Now, he probably didn’t have a choice.
Taking a huge breath, he reached for Molly’s hand and squeezed it. His grip trembled but felt it pertinent for him to try and be brave, given the enormity of what they were facing. In an attempt to distract himself from her internal panic, he wet his lips before finally whispering in a low voice,
“What do you know about soulmates?”

You were walking down the hallway just hoping that you won’t run into someone. You got to your locker and tried to put the combination so it can open. After struggling for a few minutes you were able to finally get it opened. ‘Stupid locker,’ you thought to yourself annoyed. You hoped that it would be quiet but then you heard it.
You heard the screams of females. You already know who had arrived. Chris Hemsworth. He was the stereotypical jock and the most popular guy at school. Everybody loved him, even some guys liked him. He has the looks, the body, the money, and the height.
He was basically every girl’s dream guy. The screams got louder as he approached you, and you could hear what they were saying.
You heard some of the following: “Ahh Chris please take me!”, “Please date me! I’ll a better girlfriend!”, or “Please take me to prom!” that’s right prom was coming up and you know everybody is trying to ask out Chris, but for some reason, he just rejected all of them.
You noticed that he was looking at you and you began to go into a frenzy. You tried to get everything you need and walk away but God wasn’t on your side and Chris shut your locker closed and trapping you between his big biceps.
Everybody was looking at you and the girls looked at you with jealousy. He just looked at you before grabbing your arm and dragging you away. You, of course, struggled to try and get out of his grip but he just wouldn’t let you go. And either way, he was way stronger than you.
(Those biceps tho)
He dragged you away into a secluded area. He then pinned you against the wall. Your height was nothing compared to his height of being over 6 feet tall. He just stared at you before speaking. He finally spoke and he said it, something you thought he would never say to you.
“Do you want to go to prom with me?” he said, it sounds more like a demand than kindly. You just stand there shocked at what he said. “Yes or no?!” he was getting angrier as you couldn’t decide. You finally responded, “No.” Chris just looked at you with disbelief. His hands fell to his sides. You took that opportunity to run.
‘He rejected me?! Reject me!! Why would he reject me! I Have everything!’ Chris was fuming with anger as he clutching his fists. Chris was a bit psychotic. ‘You should’ve said yes.’ Chris thought to himself, smiling crazily.
CUTBACK TO YOU.
You were able to escape his grasp and make your way to your first period. You arrived and took your seat by the window, you heard someone pulled the chair next to you. You look and it was your B/F and some of your other friends.
“Hey, you okay? Chris dragged away and who knows what he could’ve done to you!” they asked worriedly because Chris was someone you shouldn’t mess with.
“He asked me out to prom--- and I said no?” you replied after pausing on the no part. Your friends looked at you with shock, “You did what now?!” your B/f  screamed, getting the attention of everyone.
“Can you keep it down!” you said with embarrassment as everyone looking in your direction. “Sorry, but he asked you out? Why would you say no?” your B/F question and your other friends agreed, “I rejected him because he’s too full of himself and he has a big ego. And either way how much damage can he do?” your friends didn’t question you further.
Just then Chris walked and the girls began crowding around him. He told them to leave him alone, and they walked back to their seats. You, of course, ignored him and did your own thing, but Chris was just staring at you and it made you feel uncomfortable.
‘He’s so cute, his beautiful H/C, his smooth S/C, he must put lotion to make it soft. Oh, I wish I could just touch him again! I don’t like how his friends are close to him, I want to be the one that’s close to him! But my ego won’t let me do that. Don’t worry M/N soon me and you will be together whether you like it or not!’
Time Skip (TO GYM CLASS. How else hates gym?)
My friends and I arrived at the gym. The doors to the gym automatically opened. Did I forget to mention that the school enabled automatic doors because sometimes students would skip class and just open the doors to the gym. They got it because the door would close once the bell rings.
Anyway, M/n arrived with his friends, and they see that everyone is preparing the gym for prom. You helped around with the preparations until you fell someone’s gaze on you, you turned around scanning the room but you didn’t see anyone looking at you.
Until you noticed Chris in the corner flirting with the girls, you just shrugged your shoulders and went back to work.
Time skip to the end of the day
You said goodbye to my friends and began my walk home. As you were walking you could feel someone staring, it was like a sixth sense of yours. You looked around and saw nobody, only a few kids from your school walking in the same direction but none of them was looking at you.
You farther away, and you could still sense the presence of someone behind you. You finally arrived home, and you quickly locked all doors and windows in the house so that nobody can get in.
You laid down on your bed after taking everything. You fell asleep fast. Through the window, Chris was just staring at you like he always does sometimes he’ll unlock the lock, and touch you in your sleep.
Time Skip to Friday morning, 6:00 AM
Your alarm clock went off signaling that its morning. You could see the sun’s rays through the curtains. You stared at the ceiling for a good 5 minutes before actually getting up.
You did your daily routine and went downstairs to make breakfast. After you made it, you took your food and went to go watch TV. But then the news came on.
You didn’t pay much attention until. “Reports show a student from H/S/N brutally murder. The following image is graphic and contains violence so if you have children please turn them away.” it then flashed to the dead body of…
Your B/F. you were shocked then you felt tears pour out. Your long-time best friend was dead. You decided to miss that day.
For the next few days, your friends began disappearing one by one. The police didn’t know who was doing this.
It was Thursday and tomorrow will be Prom night. Apparently, at your school, you’re required to attend prom. (for plot reasons) It was the end of the school day. And you were about to start walking home until Chris walked in front of you and said:
“Hey, M/n you should be careful while walking. I heard your friends have gone missing these days and because… I know we don’t have a good history together but of course, I still care about you. So stay safe.” and then he just walked away. You stand there confused about what he just said but you just shrugged it off.
Time Skip (Friday, Prom night)
You entered the gym and just stand there while everyone else was dancing, drinking, and talking to their friends. ‘I don’t wanna be here! I just wanna go home.’ the dance continued then they will prom king and queen.
‘I wish my friends were here.’ tears were threatening to pour out but you held it in. Then the principal came on the microphone to announce prom king and queen. ‘Good evening everyone, I hope your all having a good time. We’ll be announcing prom king and queen!” everybody started clapping and cheering.
You already know who the prom king will be. “Prom king goes to-- Chris Hemsworth!” the principal said with everybody clapping and congratulating for his win. “And prom queen is R/G/N!” everybody again started clapping. Both Chris and R/G/N went onto the stage so they receive their crowns and start to slow dance.
Everything was normal until the lights turned red and the automatic doors closed shut. Everybody was confused about what was going on. Just then a spotlight that was installed at the top of the gym fell and landed right onto R/G/N. Her blood spattered on everyone close to the setup stage.
This soon turns everyone into a panic. Tables were knocked down, everybody was crowding at the doors trying to get out. Then the water sprinklers went off and then all the spotlights fell from the ceiling igniting a fire.
Now everyone was in a complete frenzy. All around you all you could was fire, some were on fire. Then you passed out from the smoke filling the room.
Time skip (3:00 AM)
You woke and you see that you were tied to the bed in someone’s room. You know it isn’t your room then the TV turned on. It was the news. “What was a night of enjoyment turned horrible real quick. I am right in front of H/S/N or what’s left of it, during the prom dance a fire broke out and the automatic doors closed instantly trapping everyone inside. But this young man, Chris Hemsworth, was able to open the door. Even it was open 200 students have lost their live--”
Then the TV turned off and the door. There you see Chris at the doorway, he began to walk closer to you. Then he spoke, “You’re so beautiful, I finally have you all to myself.” he was also touching you.
You are left shock at what was happening, so many questions began circling in your head, “Did he do this?” “Does he like me?!” “was he the one that killed my friends?!”
“If you’re wondering then yes I was the one who did all of this. I was the one you killed all of your friends, and yes I do like you. I like you ever since I first saw you. Now your mine”
You just stared at him soaking in all of this new information before lashing out at him. “Why did you this?! Why did you kill my friends?! Was it you that killed almost everyone at pro-” you were cut off by Chris pressing his lips against yours. He kissed you a few minutes before pulling to let you breathe.
“Why? Will, maybe you should’ve said yes to me. And none of this would have happened. Your friends will still be alive and everyone that died on prom night would still be alive…
But that doesn’t matter now, they’ve died and you’re with me forever. You belong to me and won’t ever let you go.” you passed out from drama and you heard this last thing before darkness consumed you.
“You should’ve said yes.”
Did I use, “You should’ve said yes?” too many times? And did you get the movie reference I used? Comment on what reference I used.

Face him head on - A Narumitsu Fic
So I got into the AA fandom recently and... I love Bratworth??? And I like seeing Bratworth/Feenie content? So I wrote this:
Basically, Post SoJ Edgeworth and Wright get teleported (with some Magatama incident) in the years where they were young, aka Bratworth’s and Feenie’s (Pre-Dahlia) years, but, Wright appears in the courthouse with young Miles, and Edgeworth in Ivy University with young Phoenix. So, the old counterparts, to get back together, make their young selves meet again.
I know this sounds complicated af, but I swear it’s a LOT easier to understand if you just read it
Spoilers for: Most of AA: Trials and Tribulation and Turnabout goodbyes
Warning: Mention of blood, fluff, and a bit of horny Bratworth for Older Phoenix and his fancy suit. Nothing explicit
Words count: 3.700
Enjoy~
Edgeworth paced the tribunal’s hall, his shoes clicked on the smooth pavement, Von Karma was to arrive soon for a trial and he was sure the man was going to want to meet him for a regular check-up on victories and progress. Miles wasn’t really ecstatic about it, but he had no choice, so he used this time to prep-talk himself, that was until a voice from a man he had just surpassed stopped him, “Excuse me, um… what year are we in?”
How could you not know the current year? “What a foolish question, you should be out of this world to not know.” He turned around with his eyes close, “We are well in two-thousand and–” but as he opened his eyes, his words were cut off by the sight of a well-dressed man in multiple shades of blue.
The stranger’s eyes widened, “M-Miles?” he stuttered, and Edgeworth flinched at the use of his name, making him forget all about the suit, “H-How dare you call me by my first name?! It is highly inappropriate and unprofessional, especially from a stranger” the annoyance from his own situation with his mentor arose and he turned around to leave with a “Hmph!” as he was stopped again: “What do you mean ‘stranger’ Mi- Edgeworth? It’s me, Phoenix!”
He scanned his memory for that name, but only one person came to mind- and it definitely wasn’t them. They were part of his past and also the same age as Miles, so it was impossible.
The man shifted behind him, “Really Edgeworth? Does the name ‘Phoenix Wright’ not ring any bells?”
Wright?
His breath hitched.
With an expression full of surprise, he turned back to the man and stared: the spiky hair, the ocean-deep eyes… an attorney badge?!
No, it wasn’t the Wright, it couldn’t be.
He shook his head, “There is no logical way you are the Wright I’m thinking about-” a soft smile welcomed his confused gaze, “But I am- “ He fished for something in his pocket, “Here” and opened his hand to present it to him, Edgeworth accidentally gasped out loud: Signal blue, worn out and slightly faded.
“H-how?” he let out a shaky breath, clutching his arm with the one that wasn’t carrying his bag, “You are my same age- yet you look much more mature-” and hotter, “And what are you doing in a courthouse? Why do you have a defence pin- no” he stopped himself, “You are trying to fool me. You are not who you say you are”
A deep sigh came from the supposed Wright, “I know it’s hard to wrap your head around it- but it’s me, from the future”
His confusion disappeared in an instant, replaced with anger, “What nonsense are you spouting?!” He almost took his leave for the third time, “You want proof, Edgeworth?” his words stopped him once again, as Phoenix shoved his hands in his pocket again, “Then there is proof!” he fished out a device he had never seen before, he deduced it was a cellphone, but much more technological: it didn’t have a keypad and it lit up to show an image with various people in it, just for it to change. The man pressed the screen and there was a calendar which showed the same date but another year– so far away from the current one.
“See? This is almost twenty years ago for me, of course I look older, but it’s me” He placed a hand on his chest for emphasis, “Here- I’ll even show there is an older version of you!” he clicked the screen again and a cellphone contact with the name ‘Miles Edgeworth’ was there: the number was his.
He still couldn’t believe it, but the longer he stared at the man, the longer he could see Phoenix Wright, the kid with the biggest brightest smile he had ever seen, something in his chest was bubbling at the memories of his childhood friend.
“Edgeworth I know this is confusing and very sudden but– you need to help me find my Edgeworth” those words deepened that feeling, my Edgeworth…
“If I’m here with you, that probably means he’s with twenty years old me– you have your car already, yeah?” He stuttered out a reply, “Then please Edgeworth, help me find him” Phoenix grabbed both of his shoulders and stared at him with his glittery eyes.
His instinct was to say yes, but the fury of Von Karma about making him wait would be inevitable… but those eyes… his touch…he was so close…
“Yes…” he panted out, his breath missing from the closeness of his childhood crush, and the next second, he was being dragged down the hall: Phoenix was holding his hand.
His face lit up and the fire within him started to crackle louder: the man was well-toned, the blue suit was perfect for him- made for him, and that light blue vest… made him wild, it made his sculpted chest and thin waist even more obvious, the gold chain to his pocket and his shiny attorney badge complimented the look: Miles had to look away in shame for thinking such thoughts.
Without realizing it, Phoenix had dragged him all the way to the parking lot, like he was more than familiar with the courthouse layout… which he guess backed up his pin. “You already have the red sports car?” he looked at Edgeworth with a serious expression, which made him quiver a little, “Y-yes!”
He was dragged again until they arrived at the car, he managed to fish out his keys and unlock it, Wright stole them from his hand, his skin warm against his left a tingling sensation, “I need to drive, you don’t know where we’re heading. I know you don’t like that other people drive your car, sorry, but it’s an emergency” He flushed again as he entered the passenger seat, the question of how he knew such a thing was answered by the fact that Phoenix knew him in his… timeline? World? Either way, any type of complaint died in his tongue, too overwhelmed as the man started the car and Phoenix’s cologne filled the air: it was fresh and pleasant, it complimented his looks just as the suit did.
While they were speeding somewhere, the car was silent: mostly because Edgeworth was overwhelmed with... Phoenix, everything about him was too much to process.
How the little boy in his memory became this handsome man, why he was a defence attorney, how he came from the future… how the butterflies in his stomach hadn’t stopped since his name was brought up.
Yes, Miles had a bit of a childhood crush on Phoenix, but he had to stuff away his feelings since Von Karma had subtly introduced him to daughters of powerful friends of his multiple times, and had expressed how ‘He could choose between marrying a proper woman or dedicate his life to his job’.
But seeing a mature, sexy version of Phoenix had reawakened that old fire he thought he had extinguished.
The man driving fumbled with that device again and then placed it on his lap, the beeping made him realize he was calling someone.
“Phoenix? Are you alright?” a voice that sounded awfully like his own replied, Wright picked up the device, “Miles! I’m on my way!” So this was the older him! And they used their first names! This meant they were friends!
A wave of happiness washed over him knowing they reunited after all this time.
“On your way?! Phoenix how do you know where I am?!”, Wright turned left using only one hand to steer, which was… hot…
Edgeworth looked away and realized how much the sight had affected him… he could feel his pants become a little tighter... “I awoke at the courthouse, not too far away from twenty years old you, I presume you must be at Ivy university with twenty years old me”
“Yes…” They accelerated a little as the confirm came in, “I’m glad I caught him as he was leaving class… I swear I saw… Her… in the distance” Wright’s grip on the wheel tightened, his face winced like he was in pain: Who was… her?
“I should be there in five minutes or so, bring young me with you at the entrance: visitors aren’t allowed inside” an okay arrived from the device, “I’m… not wearing the sweater… am I?” The question was so weird Edgeworth snapped his head towards Wright in confusion, why what he was wearing matter?
A sight came from the other line, “No, fortunately you aren’t… I think you haven’t started da-” he stopped his older version of him on the phone, “Don’t Miles…” the man driving the car looked at him for a brief2 second, “You’re on speaker”.
A mortified “Oh” came from the other line, “I’ll see it for myself, bye” he placed the device on his lap again, not before a concerned, “Drive safe Phoenix” came as a goodbye.
Silence fell again, and it stayed that way for a while, Edgeworth was becoming restless, Phoenix could tell by how hards he was grabbing his arm, so he talked, “Say… you had your first trial already, yeah?” He winced at the memory of that man falling backwards, with blood spilling from his mouth… that girl smirking…
He shivered and nodded, a hand softly settled on his shoulder, “I’m sorry to bring back the bad memory, but I need to find out at what time both you and young me are living in right now” he nodded and dared a peek at Wright.
His brows were furrowed in concentration: he was thinking: “How do I ask this…” he mumbled, “Um.. Did you make it on the news?” The question threw him off, “Uh… Y-yes… an article about me was released not too long ago” Phoenix nodded, “Alright, so young me is aware of you”
A confused “Huh?” slipped past his lips. Phoenix shook his head, “Young me saw that article, that’s how…” he paused.
Wright had seen the article? A chill went down his spine… they didn’t talk too well about him on there… it mentioned all sorts of bad rumours. Did Phoenix hate him now?
“No, I can’t say more than this, you’ll see for yourself once we arrive”
It struck him that he was about to see Wright, well, the Wright he spent that blissful year of school with… his Wright.
“Hey… don’t overthink this, I can assure you everything will be fine” A comforting smile came from the man, Edgeworth nodded.
Now that he had seen older him, he couldn’t think how twenty-year-old Phoenix would look.
_______________
Phoenix parked and scrambled out of young Edgeworth’s car, the man was walking so fast he had no time to register where they were, thank god for the massive sign saying “Ivy university”. So this is where Phoenix ended up huh.
They approached the entrance by the big stairs, and once on top of them, there they were: The older version of himself reminded him too much of his father, the glasses were– as best as he could remember – the same model. He was wearing a long jacket a shade slightly different than his, the cravat was at its usual place and the black vest, he realized, matched with Phoenix’s, different colour, but it looked like the same model.
A smaller boy was standing almost behind him, gripping the sketchbook to his chest, a red scarf hid his reddened face: he was looking directly towards him. His stomach dropped: that was Wright.
“Phoenix!” His counterpart ran into adult Wright’s arm, embracing him for a few seconds before pulling away and cupping his cheeks, “Are you ok? Is everything all right?” the man with the spiky hair smiled, “Yes Miles I’m ok”.
After a sigh of relief, his old self looked right at him and scooted away from Phoenix, a little blush lit his cheeks. An awkward silence fell in the middle of the chaos of students leaving school.
“So… how do we go back?” Wright asked, adult him looked down in thoughts, “I’m not sure… but Maya shoved the magatama on me as soon as it started to lit up” He grabbed the side of his jacket and pulled a shaped rock out of it, “I presume we’ll have to use this… although you’re much handier with it than I am” He gave it to adult Wright and then looked back at him, he looked away: he looked so much like his father it hurt.
“M-miles…?” A broken voice called his first name, both Edgeworths looked at the young boy with the spiky hair. He was about to say how childish it was to call him by his first name, but his heart dropped as he realized: Phoenix was crying, subtly sobbing in the scarf, “Why didn’t you reply to my letters?” Edgeworth gripped his arm, “Why did you suddenly disappear?” he cringed, “Why are you a prosecutor?” he choked out the final question, Miles internally cursed von Karma and that damned earthquake.
“I..-” he attempted to reply, but Phoenix threw himself at him, making his briefcase drop: “I MISSED YOU SO MUCH!”
The boy gripped him desperately, his first instinct was to shove him away, yell at him to stay back and disappear. Wright was part of his painful cursed past.
But the warmth of another body surrounding him… the closeness of his friend made him realized that he was the cause of his sadness: he had hurt Phoenix.
His brain screamed at him to free himself, but every inch of his body, touch-starved for years… and his instinct to protect him… they held his negative thoughts back from becoming true.
Adult Wright was holding that greenstone, absorbed in thoughts, but older him stared at his soul, smiling. Phoenix was a sobbing and shuttering mess, his suit was going to be ruined after this, but as if older Edgeworth read his mind, like this was a situation he’d been before, he whispered softly enough for only him to hear: “Don’t run, face it head-on”
After a few seconds of confusion, he almost physically recoiled as he realized what older him was saying: his suit getting stained, his pride being hurt, what von Karma taught him… they were all excuses to run away from an uncomfortable situation: this situation.
Face it head on… Phoenix’s feelings, all of the memories he reminded him of, the mistakes he had made, his hurtful past… He had to face them head-on.
But his feelings for Phoenix! The butterflies he got when a nine-year-old Phoenix smiled at him or grabbed his hand… the insecurity of preferring boys over girls that had started with the man in his arms-
Older him sighed and held out a hand in Wright’s direction, “Hm? Yes Mile- Hmf!” and grabbed older Phoenix’s tie, pulling him to… kiss him.
Miles’s eyes widened as he observed how Wright’s surprised expression melted into the kiss, his eyes closed and a hand crept up onto older Edgeworth for support: Edgeworth had told Wright his feelings, and he reciprocated them.
Every ounce of logic flew right out of the window and Miles hugged the still sobbing Phoenix tight, pushing him against his chest. He stiffened as a small gasp came out of the boy in his arms, he was just waiting for Phoenix to shove him away, to say that he hated him, to see his angry face… but Phoenix never moved away, actually, he whispered: “I missed you so so much…”
The gentle voice hit him straight in his heart, so he replied, “... I…  missed you too…” and closed his eye as tears threatened to spill out.
___________________
They broke the kiss before it became too heated, panting, Phoenix, after recovering, asked, “What was that fo-” but he was cut off again as Miles took his chin and turned it to their younger versions directions, hugged as both of them cried. His husband smiled at the sight.
Edgeworth remembered how Wright told him, (when pretty drunk once after Edgeworth’s trial, and again, after Phoenix had almost died due to the bridge) how when he saw the ‘Demon prosecutor’ article, all he wanted was to hug Miles and ask him what happened.
Of course, Edgeworth knew that even if they had met back at that time, his phobia of the past and his repressed feelings toward men and Phoenix (because yes, they were two separate things), wouldn’t have allowed it, ever. Especially with all of von Karma’s hate for romantic relationships with ‘normal people’ in general, planted in his head.
He never told Phoenix what he wished would have been impossible, it wouldn’t have been nice. But as soon as he saw twenty years old Phoenix threw himself at twenty years old him, he knew exactly what thoughts were going on in his head. Denying young Phoenix of the hug would have hurt both older and younger Wright… and of course, his younger self too.
So, he thought to himself, that a little encouragement and reassurance wasn’t going to hurt. In fact, it was all worth it when his husband flashed that big soft smile of his at the sight.
After he stopped staring at the two young adults, he turned towards Miles, “I’m pretty sure I know how to go back: all we need to do is hold the magatama in our hands and think to walk back to Kurain village” he whispered, Miles nodded, “Thank god I caught it when Maya threw it at me” he replied, earning another smile from Phoenix.
They waited another minute before their younger selves untangled out of the embrace: Miles guessed their habit of long hugs was something that had always been there from the start.
After wiping their tears aways, Phoenix spoke first, “Alright, we are ready to return in our year-” Miles placed a hand on his husband’s shoulder, “Before we go, I’d like to speak to my young self… privately” Young Edgeworth looked away while older Wright nodded, “Ok… just, don’t say anything… risky” Miles flashed a smirk, “I have no intention to”. With that said, he walked towards twenty years old Edgeworth, “May I have a word with you?”, young him stuttered out a yes, and followed him a bit away from the Wrights.

“von Karma is going to be furious when you show up late, so say confidently that you were stuck in traffic. Don’t say that there was an incident unless you run into one on your way back, he will probably check” Young him recoiled by how detailed the plan was, “O-ok…” he gripped his jacket, older him smiled, “Keep Phoenix close, no matter what the consequences” he placed both hands on young Miles shoulders, “You like him, don’t you?” After a pause and a cringy expression, he slowly nodded, “Don’t be ashamed of it, he won’t judge you. Phoenix will be there for you if you ever need anything” The wide-eyes stare he received made him smile, “You simply have to allow him in, and trust me: you’ll never regret it”
Edgeworth realized that his wedding ring was in full display, and maybe the news wouldn’t ease his younger self’s nerves, so he shoved his left hand in his pocket, and spoke right after to cover up the perhaps too rushed action, “At first, it may hurt to explain your situation to Phoenix, but it will only be at the start. Again: if you allow him in, he’ll only be of help and support. You just have to face him head-on”
Young Edgeworth was still a little confused, but as he took a quick glance behind his older self (probably to look at Wright) he nodded, “I… I’m scared…”
Of course he was, hell, he himself was scared when Phoenix came crashing into his life, shuttering everything he had built up until then.
“I know, your first instinct is to run, but unless you want to hurt him, it’s better that you explain your situation first thing first”
After letting young Miles elaborate a little more, they went back to the Wrights, and each Edgeworth took their rightful place next to them.
“Well, I guess it’s time we head back” Older Wright broke once again the silence, “I hope you too keep in touch from now on” they looked at their younger version look at each other and gaze away as a flush crept onto their cheeks, “T-thank you for bringing him to me… me” Young Phoenix bowed, as young Edgeworth’s blush deepened.
“Let’s go or we’ll worry Maya and Pearl” Miles waved at the two and grabbed Phoenix’s hand, leading him away. After they climbed down the stairs, they disappeared.
Wright and Edgeworth were left standing next to the other, “So… that really really just happened, huh…” the boy with the spiky hair huffed, turning to face his silver-haired friend: “So uhh… sorry for–” “I’m sorry Phoenix but I have to go, now” he cut him off, startling the boy, Miles dug into his briefcase and pulled out his business card, the one von Karma had him make before he even became officially a prosecutor, “We have a lot to catch up on but– there is a very inpatient person waiting for me and I’m already–” a soft hand crept on his shoulder, pulling him out of the small panic he had gotten into when he intterrupted the other boy, “I understand” Phoenix took the card and brought it to his chest, “I’ll text you and we can see each other with less rush” he smiled, and that made Miles relax, “Just- promise me something… “ a small hint of pain in his eyes made him look like a lost puppy, cute, “Please answer me this time”.
Edgeworth realized that not answering his letters might have hurt Phoenix more than he thought, but he nodded, “I will, I promise” and after a quiet goodbye, he rushed to his car, speeding carefully along the road.
von Karma, as his older self anticipated, bought the excuse, not after a little scolding, of course.
He was thankful that they were walking while talking, and he didn’t have to pay actual attention to the conversation, because Miles’s mind drifted off to how sexy Wright looked with that blue suit, and how cute Phoenix was with the red scarf.
Yes, the childhood friend was going to be a constant thought from now on, distracting him from his work, but as older him said: he wasn’t going to run away, he wanted Phoenix back into his life, and no von Karma or murder case was going to deny him that wish.

Scarlet Moon
Tumblr media
Genre: Scarlet Heart Ryeo!AU, Time Travel!AU, Alternate History, Royalty!AU
Pairing: OC x EXO OT9
Summary:  This isn’t Gwen’s time. She was from the modern era, with technology and electricity. But during a solar eclipse, she’s transported back into a previous life in a time and place she does not know. Now, as the foreign daughter of a merchant living in a prince’s household, she must tread carefully, watch her back, and guard her heart. But with the princes locked in a battle over the throne, the chances of her making it out alive might disappear.
Part: 1 I 2 I 3
                                            ********
The paper sliced across the skin before any action could be taken to avoid it. A high pitched hiss followed by a short whine. The flap of skin that had been separated was being dyed red.
Gwen stuck her index finger in her mouth to sooth the stinging. It helped a little bit. Still sucking on the appendage, Gwen stumbled over to the supply closet and opened the thin metal doors with the other hand. She kept this feat up as she opened the first aid kit and pushed around the different types of bandages, trying to decide which one to use. The cut was right on the tip, right where you never want it to be. It was hard to get a band aid on that kind of cut. Eventually, she found a smaller version of a standard design and ripped the paper covering opening. She wrapped the band aid around her index finger before heading for her desk. It was back to the files that had injured her in the first place.
The pile was tall; by her standards, at least. Gwen had been dealing with it for the past hour. The dates on the files needed sorting, separating the ones could be sent to long-term storage. She almost gave out another whine, but she didn’t want the others to hear and start the relentless teasing. Her coworkers were quick and very witty.
It was a friendly floor. Everyone joked and played around without the fear of feelings being hurt. If Gwen didn’t have to do the actual work that came with the office space, she wouldn’t mind staying here forever. But dealing with these files and demanding customers and meeting quotas was not what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Not that Gwen knew exactly what it was that she did want to do. She’d tried a lot of things over the last few years in her slow going college years. Marketing, history, education - hell, she even took several makeup courses and skincare lessons that focused on natural resources. None of it stuck, none of it held her interest, though the information could be recalled if needed.
“You alright there, Gwen?”
Drudging up from the bowels of her thoughts, Gwen looked up at Kimberly, who had stopped at her desk on the way back from the printer.
“Yeah,” Gwen nodded with a sigh. “Just… ready for the week to be over.”
“Ain’t that the consensus,” Kimberly laughed.
“How are the dogs?” Gwen was seizing the opportunity to distract herself from work. Kimberly owned two dogs with opposite personalities. One was the well-mannered older brother, the other was the skittish, hyper younger brother. She loved to talk about them and there was never a shortage of entertaining stories.
Kimberly rolled her eyes. “Kurt is back to back to demanding his breakfast at five a.m. Oh, but Kent now does this thing where he walks backwards. Whenever he starts doing that, we’ll beep at him. You know, like the garbage trucks? Then he gets all shy and hides his head.”
Gwen couldn’t stop giggling at the thought. “Oh, the poor thing!”
“You’ll have to see it next time you come over.”
“I can’t wait.”
As Kimberly walked away, Gwen sighed. She didn’t get out too much and the humor that most of her socializing outside of work was with one of her coworkers wasn’t lost on her. Just another dart to throw at the board that was Gwen Sinclair.
It wasn’t like her life was a complete disaster. Really, it could have been worse. She could imagine a thousand different scenarios that she could be living right now that were worse off then her current situation. Truthfully, if glanced at from the outside, Gwen’s life was simply... mediocre. She was blessed with tolerable roommates, an okay job that provided a nice paycheck for a twenty-three-year-old who had yet to finish college. But… the loneliness was killing her and overall, she was craving for something more.
She was exhausted from obligation and responsibility. She wished to go back to the days where she read about adventure and intrigue and imagined some day living that out herself. After having those words in her hands, she felt empty in her reality. Somehow, each day felt even more draining.
With the end of another workday, Gwen packed up the files that still needed to be sorted, locked up her cabinets and tugged on her coat as she waved goodbye to Kimberly and the others. A few other coworkers were chatting excitedly about the solar eclipse happening in a few minutes. Gwen, however, was annoyed. Annoyed at the fact that all anyone - online or in person - could talk about was the solar eclipse, as if it was the only one that had ever been seen in this generation. When one person mentioned the eclipse, it was fine. When it was every post and every comment and every conversation, it felt a little ridiculous. Gwen couldn’t care less about the event. Getting home was her current priority. But escaping wasn’t that easy.
For the millionth time, Gwen rolled her eyes as she scrolled through the newsfeed, waiting for her car to warm up in the parking garage. The weather was cold and dreary, slowing down her progress on getting home. Puffs of steam escaped her lips in the below freezing temperature. Other employees hurried past the back of her car to get to their own tiny sanctuaries. An alert for a new email popped up at the top of the phone screen. From the quick scan of the notification, she saw that it was from her eastern history professor. He wanted to go over the latest paper from class. Oh, no. That was never a good sign.
Gwen huffed, threw her car into reverse, and pulled out of the parking space. First the papercut, now this.
Since all her classes were online, Gwen had the minor luxury to not be forced to talk to her professor face to face, which surely would have been humiliating. But it couldn’t be avoided completely. She’d email him back once she arrived home. Or maybe she’d put it off until tomorrow. Dealing with this was the last thing she wanted to do. Stress was already causing her skin to revert back to puberty, she didn’t need this as well.
Her phone rang and she struggled to answer it while carefully winding down the levels of the garage. It was Jaynie, the favorite of the roommates.
“Hey, Janie, what’s up?”
“Oh, nothing, I was just wondering if you were coming straight home today.”
Gwen smirked, knowing exactly where this was going.
Over the past several months, a bit of an obsession had developed with Korean dramas. The shows the two of them consumed were different from the same old, boring American television and there were years worth of stories to choose from. Currently, they were in the middle of another romantic comedy. While Gwen loved the storyline and was in a constant state of swoon, as soon as the credits started rolling, she was reminded how pathetically uninteresting her life was. But those sixty plus minutes of pure escapism made it all worth the crash that came afterwards.
Gwen tried to wait patiently in the line to leave the parking garage, but her frustration was getting the better of her. It was stop and go, stop and go, stop and go.
“I’m planning on it. That is, if people decide any day now to not drive idiotically.”
“Ugh, I had the same problem on my way home.”
Curious. Both of them worked in the downtown area. “How did you get home so fast?” Gwen asked.
“I got off a little early today.”
“Lucky.” Her accounting job often led to flexible hours. Gwen was jealous of that level of freedom.
The road was slick from the freezing rain. Weather like this brought out all the stupid drivers as if this wasn’t a yearly occurrence. She was careful to look both ways before exiting the garage and inching into the street. What she didn’t account for was the other emptying lot across the street. A large black SUV pulled out right at the same time, but went too fast, hitting the water that was slowly turning to ice on the asphalt.
With no time to react, the SUV slammed into the side of Gwen’s compact car. Glass from the driver’s side window shattered and sprayed her face. Her phone flew out of her hand. The crunch of metal hit her ears before she could fully process what had happened. With the force of the collision, her forehead slammed against the steering wheel before the airbag deployed. The sound of screams echoed around her, but the words were unintelligible. Slumped over in her seat, a shadow creeped over the scene. Through the slits of her barely open eyes, Gwen watched as the sun disappeared behind the moon. Then all went black.
                                           ********
The water was what brought her back. It filled her lungs and surrounded her on all sides. She flailed her limbs, desperate for traction that couldn’t be found. Her clothing weighed her down, the hems being pulled as if hands had gripped tight on them. She needed a miracle. And a miracle she got. Two hands held onto one of her wrists and pulled her to the surface.
She gasped for air as her rescuer struggled to bring her to shore. The cloth that covered her felt as if it weighed a hundred pounds, making it nearly impossible to move. Water made its way up her throat, spilling over her lips. Her lungs were finally clear. They took in as much oxygen as they were allowed, burning with each brath.
“Lady Gwen! Lady Gwen!”
A young girl blocked out the bright sun. She shook Gwen’s shoulders desperately.
Gwen’s brain processed that the girl was not speaking English, but… she could understand her. The girls damp, dark hair was pulled into halves on either side of her face held in place by wide red straps. She looked at Gwen with deep concern, like a lifelong friend. But Gwen was sure she had never seen this girl before in her life.
“My Lady, can you hear me?” she asked frantically.
“Who are you?” Gwen finally choked out.
That made the girl pause in her panic. “What?”
Slowly regaining her strength, Gwen pushed herself up to her knees. As her eyesight cleared, she took in her surroundings. Gone were the tall metal and glass buildings, traffic lights, and speeding cars of her modern home. Now all that surrounded her were trees and a sandy beach of a large, calm lake. In the distance, wooden houses with curved rooftops, painted in bright reds and greens dotted the horizon. The heaviness that weighed her down was a dress made of too many layers and of no western fashion that she’d ever experienced before.
Whispers bounced around the rocky shore. All the faces that were looking on with concern around were unfamiliar. Gwen grabbed the hair cascading down her back, but it was still the red she knew, darker from the dampness of being pulled out of the water but still her hair.
“Where am I?” she asked in a quiet, gasping voice.
“My Lady, don’t you remember?” The girl panicked. “You’re in Songak. Goryeo.”
“Goryeo?” Gwen screeched. All the minor details she could summon up of the country came rushing to the forefront of her mind. It was information overload and her brain couldn’t handle it. Her lungs tried desperately to keep up, breathing in as much air as they could, but her throat was closing up from the panic. The landscape blurred and she fell to the ground.
                                          ********
She was in a bed this time when she regained consciousness. The room was cold and dimly lit with soft, orange candlelight. A man, Caucasian unlike the others, sat beside the bed on a stool, worry etched into every facet of his face.
“Gwen, sweet, are you all right?”
English. He was speaking English. But that was a footnote of comfort to the bigger problem. She still didn’t know what had happened to her or how she got here or who these people were that seemed to know her. The man, who was about in his mid-forties with salt and pepper hair, smiled down at her, though his eyes were confused. “Gwen, does it hurt anywhere? Can you tell me if you hit your head?”
Gwen took a moment, to calm down and to evaluate what she was feeling physically. Her head didn’t hurt, nor did any other part of her body. Wordlessly, she shook her head. The man seemed relieved.
“Are you all right?” He asked again, a different meaning under the question this time. “Chae Ryung said you couldn’t remember her or that we were in Goryeo? Do you at least remember your papa?”
Gwen weighed the choices in her mind. There wasn’t a mirror around, but she started to wonder if she had taken the place of someone else. Someone who knew these strangers. She could say that she didn’t know any of them - the truth - but would they think her mad if she spilled too much? Perhaps she could say she remembered a few things. Like him, if he is this poor girl’s father. Why am I here? In this time?
Choosing to comprise with herself, she gave the smallest of nods. “Papa.” Sitting up, she pulled him into a hug and there was something comforting about his embrace. This body remembered him, at least.
“What happened?” she asked after she let go.
“Chae Ryung said that you’d wandered off again and she found you, you’d been the water a long time.” The man, Papa, sucked in a breath, his eyes beginning to water. His genuine concern over her wellbeing made Gwen choke up as well. “The doctor said you stopped breathing. That could explain your lost memories.”
Good. The excuse was already in her hands. That should make it easy enough to play along while being forgiven for any missteps. But they shouldn’t be in Goryeo. That didn’t make any sense, historically. If anything, they might have been in Joseon – late Joseon. Was this some sort of alternate timeline? Or maybe she hit her head really hard in the car crash and this is really all a dream from the stress of her paper and too much K-drama.
Yes. Too much K-drama.
That had to be the explanation. This was all a strange dream. Which meant, she could play along and not be afraid. She could ask questions and live out the day until she woke back up in her own time, most likely in a hospital with a bandage on her head and her mother fretting over her.
She glanced around the room, taking in the architecture that she had only ever seen in pictures. In person, it was even more stunning and intricate. This wasn’t an ordinary citizen’s home. Interesting. What else could her brain come up with? “Why are we in Goryeo?”
“Your father’s a merchant, remember?” He spoke slowly. Each word was deliberate, giving Gwen time to process. Good filler for her mind. “I made a large fortune here and planned on taking you back home, but… your mother is buried here. We couldn’t leave her behind.”
A wave of emotion hit out of nowhere. Though her mother was alive and well, it didn’t stop a tear from escaping. “Mama.”
Papa wiped it away with a coarse finger. Gwen gasped back, surprised by the realness of the touch. Her dreams were never this intricate. The blanket strone across her lap scrunched in her fingers. It was cold and soft… and very real.
She wasn't dreaming, was she?
Confused by her reaction, Papa paused for a moment before continuing his explanation. “The eighth prince is graciously letting us stay with him while we wait on the construction of our home to be complete.”
The eighth prince?
Panic grew tenfold. If this wasn’t a dream, then she was in very big trouble. If history told her one thing, it was that proximity to royalty was the most dangerous place to be. Gwen might possibly have been able to skate by if they were simply staying in some unknown village far from the capital, but they were in a prince’s home. Which meant they were in… Songak, the capital city, just like that girl – Chae Ryung – had said. Right under the King’s nose. Breathing became difficult again. Each one was shallow, barely letting in any oxygen. Gwen could feel her chest tighten and her vision blurred.
“Gwen!” Papa jumped up and tried to keep her straight to give her lungs as much room as possible. He switched to Korean as he called out over his shoulder, “Someone, get the doctor! Now!” Shuffling sounds echoed off the floor on the other side of the sliding door and then faded away.
A minute later, breathing no better, two men and a woman rushed inside along with Chae Ryung. The older man stepped in front of Papa and took his place. He pushed Gwen’s shoulders gently until she was lying down. Two cold fingers against her wrist checked her pulse. The other, much younger man stepped up to Papa.
“What happened?”
Papa frowned. “It seems she’s lost some of her memories. I was explaining why we were here when suddenly she had trouble breathing.” He stopped, struggling with his own breath. “I’m sorry we’ve become a burden to you, Your Highness.”
Gwen’s breathing was regaining strength and she was able to concentrate on the conversation. So that was the eighth prince. He was younger than she would have guessed, handsome even, if she had to focus on something other than her lack of breath.
“Do not think such a thing,” the Eighth Prince replied. “Your presence has greatly improved the household. Lady Gwen will get better with time.”
Papa bowed, obviously grateful at the response. He turned to the woman. “Lady Hae, may I enquire after your own health?”
“Today is a better day,” she smiled, though her pale, drained complexion said otherwise. “Please, don’t worry about me. Keep your thoughts for your daughter.”
The doctor released Gwen’s wrist, satisfied with the improvement of her pulse and breathing. He stood up.
“It was a mild panic attack,” the doctor said calmly to Papa. “If it happens again, she should lie down and focus on her breathing. The incident at the lake seems to have taken a toll on her body. She simply needs rest. In time, her memories and her body will recover.”
Gwen didn’t agree with that statement fully. This body might get better in time, but there was no way memories that didn’t exist would ever return. One by one, the occupants left the room until it was only Gwen and Papa remaining behind. Silence hung in the air. After a moment, Papa sat down on the stool and took Gwen’s hand.
“I was worried I had lost you,” he whispered.
Gwen’s eyes fell down to the blanket covering her legs. Things were becoming clearer to her now. This was not a dream and she was no longer Gwen Sinclair from the twenty-first century. Something must have happened. She didn’t know what exactly had occurred or what would happen now, but she was here. And little did this man – known only to her as “Papa” – know that he had indeed lost his daughter. The face may be the same, but the Gwen inside was different. She would try her best to be good to him, at least until she found a way to get back to her own family. She gave his hand a reassuring squeeze.
                                          ********
The next morning, the doctor, along with the Eighth Prince, came back to check on Gwen. The doctor commented that her pulse was stronger and that she seemed well on the road to full health. However, he still insisted on keeping her on bedrest.
Bored with these same walls and too curious about her temporary home, Gwen sat up. If she was going to be here for a while, she might as well get to know it. “I’m fine. Please, don’t make me stay in here all day. The sun and air is good for you, isn’t it?”
The sudden rebelliousness against the doctor’s suggestion did not seem to sit well with any of them. Gwen gave Papa a pleading look. A father couldn’t resist those eyes. He sighed, turning to the doctor. “Perhaps, a little exercise in walking around the grounds would be all right?”
The doctor looked reluctant, but he agreed. “But she shouldn’t overexert herself.”
“Chae Ryung will stay with her,” the Eighth prince ordered. “If you’ll please excuse me, I must meet with my brothers.” He bowed and left, followed by the doctor.
Having heard her name from the hallway, Chae Ryung shuffled quickly inside and over to Gwen, holding out her arms for the latter to balance on as she slid off of the bed. “Are you sure you want to go outside?”
Gwen nodded. “Yes. Perhaps seeing more of this place will help jog my memory.”
Chae Ryung tilted her head. “How can your memory jog?”
Gwen snorted, both at Chae Ryung’s confusion and at herself for the slip of the modern phrase. “Sorry, I just meant, maybe my memories will come back.”
“Oh.” The look on her face was enough to make Gwen laugh again.
Gwen scolded herself internally. She had to be more careful with her words. Every step was one on thin ice. She couldn’t change who she was, not completely, but she would have to pull back. Chae Ryung, however, felt safe, like a shelter from the rain. With her, Gwen could find answers that might be dangerous to seek elsewhere. Straightening her shoulders, Gwen smiled broadly and took her newest friend’s hand. Chase Ryung grinned brightly at her and guided her out of the room.

Ten Questions With A Twist Chapter 4
Here’s the next chapter! We’re now more than halfway through the series now, and WOW this is an eventful chapter.
I hope you enjoy and don’t forget to give me a follow and let me know if you’d like to be tagged in future chapters!
~ Chapter 1 ~ Chapter 2 ~ Chapter 3 ~ This Chapter ~ Chapter 5 ~ Chapter 6 ~ Chapter 7 ~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night was cool, simply a perfect patrol night. Ladybug had gotten to their spot on the Eiffel Tower first, leaving Chat to find her looking very frustrated.
“What's wrong, Bug? Didn’t get a chance to ask any of those questions today?”
She huffed. “Well I managed to get one answer, but I need to figure out a better way to go about this. The way it was asked today isn’t gonna work for the whole list.”
Chat was startled. Had she overheard Alya ask her the vacation question? He took his seat next to Ladybug. “You could get a friend to help you out.”
Ladybug looked surprised, but quickly covered it up. “Yeah? And what would I tell this friend? ‘Oh yeah, my crime fighting partner thinks that he knows the answers to these questions that I have to ask this boy I like’? No chance. I’ll have to find a different approach.”
“Asking questions shouldn’t be too hard. They’re also pretty easy getting-to-know-you questions. If you know him well enough, he shouldn’t find it too difficult to believe you want to get to know him better.”
Ladybug’s face lit up with a revelation. “I’ve got it! Thanks, Chat. I’ll have all the answers soon enough. And that means you’ll finally have to admit that puns are terrible.”
“Alas, my lady, the only thing you’ll be winning is a date with me! I can just see it now: You, me, a high-up rooftop, and a romantic meal prepared by some of the finest cooks in the city.”
“We’ll see about that, kitty. For now, though, the rooftops of Paris are calling our names. Shall we?”
“After you, my lady.”
The roofs and balconies of the city felt the footprints of two heros, but Chat could only pray that soon enough, he would be sharing a date with the love of his life- out of the masks they wore.
Despite the confidence he showed his lady as Chat Noir, Adrien only became more and more unsure of himself as the night progressed into the next day. And so, Adrien went to school without the usual pep in his step. He could practically feel his lady getting further and further away from him, all the while she was growing closer and closer to the person she actually loved. He felt like a fool. He had let a single coincidence go to his head and went on assuming that he could be the person his lady adores. He went and gave Ladybug questions that were designed to make her fall more in love with him, he just hadn’t considered that it wouldn’t be Adrien she was falling in love with.
He managed to meander his way through the first half of his classes, only half paying attention. At some point he vaguely remembered agreeing to have lunch with Nino, who had agreed to have lunch with his girlfriend, who was invited by Marinette.  Lunch continued to bore him, only bringing his thoughts of his lady and another man closer to the front of his mind. It wasn’t until about twenty minutes into their meal that Marinette finally said something that interested him.
“Hey, guys, I found this cool questionnaire, you wanna answer it with me?” Affirmations came from everybody at the table, including a casual shrug from Adrien. Definitely not the questions I want to hear. But anything to keep my mind away from the obvious.
“Alright,” She started, sitting up straighter and clearing her throat, “If you were stuck on an abandoned island, what three things would you bring?”
Adrien’s heart stopped. That was his question. One of them anyway. And for the second time this week, he started to try to talk himself out of being excited. Because those questions that he had given Ladybug, they were pretty basic questions. Questions that would be found in a million other places for much the same reason. But everybody was staring at him and he suddenly feared that he had thought all of those thoughts out loud.
“What about you, Adrien?” Marinette asked, looking concerned that her friend had zoned out so quickly.
“Easy. You three. Who would want to go it alone?” His answer was honest, for the most part. In reality, he would never be able to choose just three people. While his friend group meant the world to him, he would be lost without his Ladybug.
Marinette put her hand over her heart and sighed, but Alya quickly cleared things up, “You would just want us there so we can show you how to build a tent.”
They all chuckled and Marinette continued, “What’s your favorite animal?”
“Fox!” Alya said, though Marinette didn’t seem too surprised.
Nino chimed in, saying he liked monkeys a lot growing up, but he much preferred turtles now.
“Cats,” Adrien heard himself respond, but his mind was elsewhere. Suddenly, he wished he had paid more attention in math class. If I were asked three questions over the last two days, what’s the probability that all three would match up with three of the ten questions I gave ladybug? Three doesn’t go into ten evenly, and should I take into account the trains leaving opposite sides of town travelling at different speeds somewhere in America?
“Okay,” Marinette said, keeping one eye on Adrien, “And if you could have any pet in the world?”
“Well that’s just the same question twice,” Alya pointed out.
“Not really,” Nino interjected, “I’d rather have a dog than a turtle. Dogs travel better.”
Adrien had to hold onto the table, for fear of falling out of his chair. “I’d definitely get a pet cat. A black one. I’d name it The Plague.”
“That’s a sick name, dude,” Nino approved, “What about you, Marinette?”
“Hamster. But I wouldn’t mind a black cat for myself.” She paused, but when it didn’t seem that anybody else would add anything, she continued questioning. “What is your biggest fear?”
Adrien mumbled, “This. Right here, right now, these specific questions, in this exact scenario.”
“What was that, dude?” Nino asked.
Adrien just looked at him with a hollow look in his eyes, “I, uh, I said my worst fear is working for my father for the rest of my life.”
Marinette could barely be heard, “That’s… heartbreaking, Adrien.” The others just watched as Adrien tried to lighten the subject.
“Nah, that’s just my worst fear. It’s not what’s gonna happen.” He managed to focus on making eye contact with Marinette, “There’s nothing on that list about dream jobs, is there?” He hoped aloud.
“Actually, there is! What is your dream-”
“And THAT’S where I’m calling it in,” Adrien mumbled, his eyes bulged out of their sockets and he took a deep breath that filled his cheeks. He stood and started to walk away. “Alright, guys, I’m not feeling well, I need to leave. Right now. Immediately. Thank you. Goodbye.”
He was halfway across the courtyard in under thirty seconds. He ducked into a doorway and opened his shirt so he could see Plagg in his pocket, who was laughing incessantly.
“I don’t see what’s so funny, Plagg!”
“I do!” his Kwamii stated, “I think you found your girl!”
“Who, Marinette? No she can’t be Ladybug.”
Plagg’s face fell. “Why not?”
“Marinette is just a friend.” Plagg paused for a split second to stare at his chosen, then started laughing even harder. Adrien was about to tell him to quiet down when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He closed his shirt and whirled around, surprised, but not too surprised to see that Marinette had followed him.
“Hey, Marinette!” Adrien put on his best “everything is fine” face, but even he could tell he wasn’t pulling it off.
“Hey, Adrien. Are you okay? Over the course of, like, one minute your face lost all of its color.”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” he responded, “I just don’t feel well all of a sudden.”
Marinette made a face of understanding, but eventually spoke, “Are all these questions rubbing you the wrong way?”
Adrien was in shock. Not just from the questions, but from the company in which he answered them and the honest concern he felt from Marinette. Shit, maybe he did like Marinette as more than a friend. That thought alone freaked him out. How could he love two people at the same time? He didn’t think he was polyamorous, and thinking on that further, he was certain he wasn’t. He didn’t want two girlfriends, he just wanted one. Whether it was Marinette or Ladybug that he wanted, well that was too much to think about.
Before he could consider how to respond, Marinette interrupted his thoughts.
“Yeah, I just, my friend and I made this bet. This friend thinks they know all your answers to these questions-,”
Adrien was sure there was an end to that sentence, but he didn’t hear it.
Suddenly everything made sense. Her obsession with akumas. Always disappearing around the same time he did. The similar times of their arrivals to the site of the akumas. It could only be one person.
“Alya,” he said, breathless.
“What?”
Adrien responded, “What?” He mentally slapped himself. Of course it wasn’t Alya. Jeez, she had been akumatized! She had been used as bait for an akuma. Adrien must have been losing his mind. But even though he guessed wrong, he was on the right track. Whoever Marinette’s friend was, had to be Ladybug!
I guess it isn’t true that opposites attract, he thought, those two are so similar.
“So who is it?”
Marinette seemed confused, “Who is Alya?”
“No!” he corrected, “Who’s this friend? The one with all the answers.”
“Oh,” Marinette panicked. She didn’t seem prepared to answer this question, which only solidified Adrien’s belief that this friend was his Lady. “I actually don’t know his name.”
Adrien blinked through his confusion. That was odd. He and Ladybug had talked about this before. Ladybug was born a woman. She identified as a woman, as well. So was Marinette trying to protect Ladybug’s identity? Pretending that her friend was a man? Smart, he guessed, just very confusing.
Marinette seemed to notice that he hadn’t responded, so she continued, “Yeah, we’re actually…. Internet friends! Yeah, we’re friends on an internet. The internet. An internet site. Yeah. We go by screennames, that’s all.” Adrien found that explanation to be a little too convenient.
“Oh yeah? And what do you call this… boy?”
Her face drained of color, but she choked out her reply, “Black cat.”
A moment of silence later, Adrien replied. “What?”
“You know, that’s the, um, American, er English, for Chat Noir. He’s English. Well, he speaks English, he is… American.”
No… Adrien thought, But that would mean… no way!
“What’s the bet?” he asked, surprised at how sure he was.
“Oh, that? He thinks he knows all your answers to these questions. And if he wins,” she quickly added, “which he won’t! If he wins then I have to go on a date with him.”
Adrien couldn’t seem to think properly, but he was slowly realizing that his ‘liking two girls at the same time’ problem might not be much of an issue. “A date. Him and you? You specifically?”
“Yeah,” Marinette shrugged, “It’s just a stupid bet, but he seems really certain that he’ll win.”
“Well, if he does win,” Adrien sighed, letting his shoulders drop and his eyes glass over, “Then he is one lucky guy.”
Marinette stared at him. Adrien enjoyed their first bit of real eye contact. Normally looking somebody in the eyes was nerve-racking, but when those eyes were that specific shade of blue? He noticed how comforting they were. He realized maybe why.
Because those eyes weren’t just the blue of his friend who sat behind him and always had his back in his everyday life. They were also the blue that had his back in combat. That sat with him all night long when he didn’t know which way was up. That made him laugh under the stars when he couldn’t find the humor in life anymore. All of the times he came home to a cold house with no family, he felt lonely despite his friends at school. And on those days, blue eyes, the same ones that were in front of him right now, sat with him on a ledge of the Eiffel Tower and talked with him until he felt whole again.
Marinette’s face went pinker than pink instantly. Adrien enjoyed seeing Ladybug like this. Not just with a blushing face, though he liked that too. He liked seeing Ladybug whole. All of her. Without the masks, she could actually be herself, all of herself with him.
They stood there, both speechless, for what felt like an eternity. And then… the bell rang. Signaling the end of their lunch period. Adrien just chuckled, but his crime-fighting partner was still frozen. Alya walked up to the pair and Adrien just shrugged. Alya took Marinette’s shoulder and ushered her away. Nino did the same with Adrien, but he couldn’t pay much attention to the conversation his friend was trying to start.
His world had just changed.
Lupin guided you to his office, his arm comfortingly wrapped around you still.
He offered you a seat and a glass of water which you took.
“Now, (y/n), I’ll admit I was curious to see what the boggart would turn into for you but I didn’t expect to see what I did.” Lupin confessed, sitting on the edge of his desk as he folded his hands on his lap.
“What? My mother?” You scoffed, taking a sip of the cool water.
“Not exactly.” Remus’s eyes flickered from his hands up to your face. “I believe that what you fear is not your mother or your father, (y/n). I believe you fear becoming like them.”
“Excuse me?” You were taken back by the professors bold confession.
“The boggart may have taken the shape of your mother but it was very clear that the arm that the boggart reached towards you with was the arm that usually bares the dark mark.” Remus started to explain his theory. “I may be new (y/n), but I do hear the whispers that go around the students. Now, your parents were very impressive dark wizards and they did terrible things but just because you are their blood, does not mean you are like them.”
“It’s easy enough to say that but people don’t understand. They hear my name and all I see is fear.”
“You are in charge of your own path, things may happen that will change things sometimes but at the end of the day, when it all comes down to it, you are who you choose to be.” Remus’ words only passed through your head, you were still too shaken from the experience to really absorb his advice.
“May I be excused, sir?” You didn’t know how to respond to his previous speech and wanted to just be alone for a little while.
“Think about what I said.” Remus opened his office door for you, leaning on it as he waited for you to walk out. “Your parents are far away from here, don’t let them control your life, (y/n).”
You sent the professor a forced smile as you left.
You didn’t want to be around anyone which didn’t exactly help as everywhere you could go people would be; the common room, your dorm, the library etc.
“Miss Seyler!” McGonagall’s voice echoed down the staircase as she saw you start to descend them. “Miss Seyler, may I have a word?”
You slowed and waited for your head of house to reach you.
“What can I do for you, professor?” You asked her politely even though you just wanted to run off across the grounds to avoid any more confrontation.
“It’s not what you can do for me, Miss Seyler, it’s what can I do for you...” She corrected you, “I heard about the incident in class with the boggart from one of your fellow students and I wanted to know if you’d like me to speak with the other professors about talking to the students and telling them to stop discussing your kin?”
You knew she meant well but the last thing you needed was for students to think you were weak and pathetic by getting the teachers to practically ban any talk about your parents.
“Honestly, Professor, it wasn’t that great of a deal. I’m fine.” You tried to convince her but her glasses shifted on her nose as she scrunched her brow in disbelief.
“Miss Seyler, now I know you prefer to keep your head down and out of things but it’s becoming increasingly obvious that your fellow students are talking about you, spreading false rumours and if I’m being honest almost scaring the younger years and I won't have it.” McGonagall confessed.
“Professor, whilst I appreciate the fact you care about what’s happening. I’m sure it won’t be long until somebody else takes the limelight for a little while. Most likely, Harry Potter and his two friends.” You were trying to sound positive but you weren’t sure it was working.
“I’m going to discuss this with Albus and mark my words, Miss Seyler, this bullying will not be tolerated.” And with that McGonagall excused herself.
You audibly groaned at the thought of Dumbledore suggesting that students should be told not to discuss your family but you had some relief in knowing that Dumbledore would be the last person to stop people having conversations especially about people they should be worried about like your parents and the Dark Lord.
You watched McGonagall rush down the stairs most likely to try and grab Dumbledore before supper.
You tightened your grip on your book bag as you decided where was the safest place to avoid people for the next couple hours and you settled on one of the archways near the schools entrance. No one would be leaving the castle with supper so close and it was a weekday so students would have to return to their common rooms afterwards to study for the evening.
You swiftly found a place inside an arch, pulling out your uncles letter and reading it again.
You sighed, lowering the letter as you thought about your uncle and the stress he must be under at home all alone. You looked out across the grounds as the wind softly blowed past you, it was cold with it being the end of October but you weren't bothered too much by it as the arch sheltered you somewhat.
The smells from the kitchens and great hall filled the wind and made your stomach rumble. You knew you’d have to dig into your stash of treats later on and possibly harass Wood for some of his trunk full of snacks.
 As you scanned across the grounds, you spotted a large black dog off to the side of the school.
You thought it must've been one of Hagrid's new adoptions but Hagrid was no where to be seen.
You watched it sneak along a wall until it stopped and looked towards you.
You knew it was looking directly at you. You could feel it.
The black dog narrowed its eyes at you before slipping round a corner and disappearing.
A strange shiver rolled down your spine but you shrugged it off as you tucked your letter away and pulled out one of your potions books.
“Blimey, Miss Seyler, what are you doing out here? Shouldn’t you be in the great hall for supper like everyone else?” Hagrid’s voice brought you from your book and as you looked towards the clock tower you saw you had been sat there for an hour already.
“Guess I just got sucked into my book.” You lied, you didn’t need to tell him you didn’t want to be in supper.
“Well, you best run along, it’s getting dark out. Don’t wanna be getting into trouble now.” Hagrid gestured towards the sunset and you gathered your things to do as he said.
“Hagrid?” You suddenly remembered the large black dog, “Do you have another dog? Besides Fang?”
“No, why?” Hagrid shook his bushy head,
“Its just I saw a large black dog on the grounds earlier. I just thought he was yours.” You explained, pointing to where you saw it.
“It’s prob’ly a creature from the forrest, I suspect. Sometimes, they get too close to the castle, I’m sure Dumbledore will sort it out if it happens again.” Hagrid didn't seem too bothered by the news so you felt more relaxed at the sighting.
“Okay, see you later, Professor.”
“I’m still not used to the sound of that.” Hagrid beamed as you bid him goodbye.
As you went further into the castle you could hear the chatter and footsteps of students leaving supper so you just took yourself back to the common room.
When you started to climb the stairs, you noticed some kind of backlog.
“What's going on?” Harry Potter stood in front of you with his friendship group.
“Probably Neville forgot the password again.” Ron grumbled,
“Hey.”Neville Longbottom spoke up from behind the boys.
“Oh, you're there.” Ron didn’t exactly apologise for the remark.
“Let me through, please. Excuse me! I'm Head Boy! Get back, all of you. No one is to enter this dormitory until it's been searched.” Percy Weasley announced from the top of the stairs by the common room entrance.
“The Fat Lady! She's gone!” Ginny Weasley, the twins youngest sibling, rushed through the crowd to tell Ron, Harry and Hermione.
“Serves her right. She was a terrible singer.” Ron remarked,
“It's not funny, Ron.” Hermione scolded him.
“Keep calm, everyone.  Be quiet.” Percy continued shouting above all the muttering.
“Excuse me.” Dumbledore passed you as Percy announced his arrival.
“Make way. The headmaster's here.”
You watched the headmaster reach the top of the stairs to see the painting was torn and the fat lady really was missing.
“Mr. Filch? Round up the ghosts. Tell them to search every painting in the castle to find the Fat Lady.” Dumbledore told Filch as Filch clung onto his cat, scanning around at the surrounding paintings.
“There's no need for ghosts, Professor. The Fat Lady's there.” Filch found her quickly as he pointed up the wall.
There was a sudden commotion of people rushing to see followed by Dumbledore dodging his way through students to reach her.
“Dear lady, who did this to you?” Dumbledore asked as she hid behind a hippo in a safari painting.
“Eyes like the devil, he's got, and a soul as dark as his name. It's him, headmaster. The one they all talk about. He's here, somewhere in the castle!” She rambled, still frightened out of her wits. “Sirius Black!”
The name sent ripples through the surrounding students as they began to panic.
“Secure the castle, Mr. Filch. The rest of you, to the Great Hall.” Dumbledore summoned all students to the great hall.
“There you are, I’ve been looking all over for you.” Oliver grabbed hold of your arm as he squeezed his way through some third years in the great hall.
“I was––”
“Silence! Now, as you may have heard, Sirius Black has been sighted inside the castle. Now, the castle is going to be searched by the staff but for now, I wish all students to remain in here until further notice.” Dumbledore waved his wand and all the benches began to stack themselves to the side as a stack of sleeping bags and pillows piled in the corner.
“Guess we are spending the night in here.” One of the third years whispered to their friends.
“No one shall leave this hall unattended. Anyone who requires the use of the bathrooms will be accompanied by a teacher or prefect.” Dumbledore finished his announcement before leaving the great hall with Snape, McGonagall and Filch.
You noticed Percy and Penelope had taken it upon themselves to start handing out the sleeping bags and pillows so you and Oliver got in line for one.
“Why weren’t you at dinner this evening?” Oliver didn’t waste any time with the questions.
“Something happened, I didn’t feel like being surrounded by gossip.” You muttered to him, keeping your voice low so no one could eavesdrop.
“I heard something about––”
“––Can we not discuss it right now?” You cut the boy short, sending him a look of warning.
You took your bedding and made your way over to a space in the hall.
You pretended not to notice the small gatherings of people discussing both your classroom incident and Sirius Black from each corner of the hall.
“Are you actually going to tell me what’s going on with you or do I have to get the twins to annoy you so much you have to come and talk to me?” Oliver cocked his eyebrows at you as he laid his sleeping bag down and sat on top of it.
“It’s a long story.” You sighed, doing the same.
“Well, it looks like we are gonna be here all night so I’d start talking now.”
You were thankful you still had your book bag with you as you dug through it and pulled out Demetrius’ letter.
“Well I guess we’ll start with the beginning of the day.” You handed him the letter so he could read it whilst you eyed around the hall to make sure no one was paying too much attention to the two of you.
“He thinks your parents could escape? Do you think the Ministry could be hiding something from him?” Oliver whispered, handing back the letter.
“I’m not sure. He’s always been paranoid but it doesn’t seem quite right. I feel like they could be lying about their new security being so high.” You put the letter away quickly before anyone could spot it or someone nosey like Snape.
You quietened down when the twins came over with several other Gryffindor boys to join you and Wood.
You were thankful you had a book with you so you could ignore anymore conversations. You didn’t want to think about Sirius Black or how he even got into the castle in the first place. It only made you feel more nervous.
As the hours passed, the chatter died down and soon the snoring started.
You lied beside Oliver, both of you still awake but tucked into your sleeping bags.
“I heard about the boggart.” Wood whispered, moving onto his side to face you.
You pursed your lips into a thin line and sighed quietly, moving onto your side to do the same.
“It was her. My mother.” You whispered back, “It seemed so real.”
“That’s why they’re scary bastards but it was just a boggart.” Oliver reassured you.
“I know. Professor Lupin spoke to me after I ran out of the room. He was telling me something about how I shouldn’t listen to what everyone says about me being like them. He told me the boggart wasn’t even my mother but the fear of being like her.” You leant closer to Olivers pillow to speak as the light snores of surrounding students weren’t quite loud enough to hide your discussion.
“And what do you think?” Oliver asked,
“I don’t know. I just know I never want to see her in front of me again.” You confessed, your eyes growing dark with anger and concern.
“You won’t have to.” Oliver tried to say confidently but after Sirius Black, who really knew what could happen.
Both yours and Olivers heads turned when one of the doors opened, letting in the light from the corridor outside.
You spotted Cedric guiding some first year out of the hall and towards the bathroom. You almost forgot he was a prefect.
“You know what I also heard today?” Oliver had more amusement in his voice now.
“What?” You whispered, turning your head back to face him.
“I heard that Diggory walked you to charms earlier. I also heard you two were tucked away privately in a corner of the library.” Oliver wiggled his eyebrows at you and you reached across to pinch him.
Oliver hissed, rubbing his arm before laughing quietly at your actions.
“He’s not who I would pick for you but at least, he’s a good quidditch player, I’ll give him that.” Oliver’s comment made you roll over with a quiet groan.
“Who said you even get any say in who I choose to spend time with?” You whispered over your shoulder.
“Well I am your closest friend after all.” Wood swiftly replied. You couldn’t help but know that was the truth.
“Goodnight Oliver.” You didn’t want to admit he was right so you ended the conversation there.
_________________________________________________________
Things have been—tough. The Daleks, one of my daddy’s biggest enemies nearly had us and almost succeeded in destroying all of life and matter as we know it.  But thanks to some fast thinking and with the help of a clone of my dad, we managed to stop Davros as well as the rest of the Daleks.
But honestly that was the easy part.  The hardest was saying goodbye to all of our friends.  Rose and her mum went back to the parallel world with the meta-human clone of my daddy, Captain Jack took Martha and Mickey off on another adventure, Sarah Jane (an old friend of my dad’s long before I was born) went back home, and Donna—oh poor, poor Donna.
Daddy said that in order to help stop the Daleks, Donna, who had touched the severed hand of my dad when he first became this new version of himself, gained so much knowledge of the Timelords and of our home that it could overwhelm her brain and eventually kill her.  So my dad had to absorb all memory of Timelord knowledge, including all the times she spent with us.
After taking her back home, daddy told her father that it was too dangerous for her to remember anything.  If there was a glimpse of her recovering her memories, she would die.  So my dad and I left her and her family and he never went back.
Since that day, almost seven months later, he still carries that guilt.  And what’s worse is that he hasn’t been the same. He doesn’t smile as much as he used to before.  I think out of everything that I love about my daddy, it’s his smile that always made me feel happy and safe.
I stepped out of my room to see him where he usually was, standing at the controls with that dazed but intense look on his face.  I looked down at paper butterfly and cautiously walked towards my dad. It’s always a touch and go of how he’ll react whenever he’s in that deep haze.  One time he actually shouted at me and I was scared to even go near him for an entire week till he apologized to me with some Turkish delights.
“Daddy.” I said softly. “Umm…uhh daddy?” he snapped out of his daze and looked down at me.
“Oh (Y/n). Sorry I was just—I was just trying to find….nothing. What is it that you wanted to tell me?”
“Well I—finished my paper butterfly and I-wanted to give it to you.” I held it out to him and he looked down at me.  He knelt down and took the butterfly from my hands and I saw his eyes grow soft.
“It’s beautiful love. Thank you.” he gently ruffled my hair and placed my butterfly right along the controls.  It didn’t work.
I had hoped that my paper butterfly would get him to smile.  He always smiled whenever I made him little trinkets of my own design, or beautiful art projects that I’ve seen on Earth.  I thought that by doing an art project, he’d smile again but it didn’t work.
I was currently in my room reading some books written back in the 20th century.  I’ve always found that time period to be rather splendid.  It was a simpler time (if you don’t count the 2 World wars, the Great depression, and every war after that. You know why must humans always start wars?)
Anyways, the start of the 20th century is always my favorite place.  It’s quiet, tranquil, and peaceful.  A nice place, especially out in the countryside. People can have picnics, host carnivals, and yeah the grown men partake in Foxhunt but I think it’s a barbaric sport and yet they call it tradition.
Maybe if—maybe if we stayed there for a while, daddy could get better and smile once again.  I think the more time we stay in the TARDIS and just keep going through space and time, the more unhappy daddy’s gonna get, like I said he always gets lost in his head and the more bad things that happen around him, the more he keeps it bottled up inside and the more sadder he gets.
The only question now was this—how was I gonna get there? I don’t know how to drive the TARDIS cause daddy always told me to keep my grabby little paws off of it. Oh wait that’s it! I raced over to my drawer and pulled out the middle one and dug through it till I found what I was looking for.
A special teleportation watch gifted to me by Uncle Jack when my dad was in his previous form (just shortly after we first met him).  I placed the watch on my wrist and I set the time and date that I wanted to go to.  Once the coordinates were typed in, I pressed the center of the watch and I disappeared from my room and went to go set up my surprise for daddy.
*10th Doctor’s POV*
I was fiddling around with the controls when I turned and looked up at my daughter’s butterfly.  For months now she’s been making these little trinkets and art projects for me, and I really haven’t been fair to her.  A lot has happened to us, especially with what happened to Donna, and I hate to admit this to myself but I’ve been neglecting my little butterfly.
Maybe she would like it if I took her to see her favorite constellation, or maybe Barcelona (she always did like Barcelona).  Oh! No wait! The Music of the Spheres! Yes brilliant! She and I could use some music in our life, the sound of the universe singing to us.
“Hey (Y/n)! Can you come out here for a second?” I called out to her.  No response.  Okay I know it usually takes her a bit of time to come down from her room but usually she’d be right here by now. “(Y/n)? (Y/n) I said can you come here please?” bah she must be listening to that loud music again, that lass I tell you what.
I left the console room and headed on over to her room and saw that her door was shut which was surprising cause she usually keeps her door open.  I knocked on it and said.
“Poppet, are you okay? You’re not—upset or anything are you?” I still didn’t hear anything from her.  “Look I—I know we’ve been through a lot the past several months, and I have no excuse for not speaking to you. I’m sorry. So—can you please open the door so we can talk?” still nothing.
Alright I know she has a right to be upset but she can’t give me the silent treatment forever.  I opened up the door and snapped.
“Alright little madam you listen here I—” it was then I saw that she wasn’t in her room. “(Y/n)?” I looked around her room to see if she was hiding in her closet again (she always takes every advantage to jump out and scare me) but when I saw that she wasn’t there, that’s when I began to get worried.
As I left her room and began to look all around the TARDIS from the backroom pool, to the library I still couldn’t find her.
“C’mon poppet don’t do this to me.” I searched high and low, near and far and every crack in between but she still wasn’t around. “No, no, no, no, no love don’t do this to me! (Y/n)!”
I raced back towards the console and went over to the computer monitor and I quickly typed in her lifeform energy.  Since she was the only Timelord in existence (well next to me), I knew that she could be pinpoint at any time in any era she might be in.  I only hope that I can get to her before—no! NO DON’T THINK LIKE THAT!! You WON’T lose her like you lost Donna!
“C’mon you blasted thing LOAD!!!” I screamed at the computer before finally I got a hit.  London, England 1908.  Of course, she always said the start of the 20th century was her favorite time period.  I punched in the coordinates and flipped the switch and soon the TARDIS started back up and I was sailing back in time over 100 years into the past.
Once I arrived, I peeked out of the TARDIS and found myself adjacent to a large park. It was pretty peaceful, families were out and about doing their normal human interactions.  I shut the doors to the TARDIS and I quickly raced over to the park and searched for (Y/n).
This was where her last known readings were at.  At this exact spot so where could that little troublemaker be at?  I walked up to a couple and said.
“Hi sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you have found a little girl around 5 years old with (h/l) (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes? She’s my daughter and she’s wondered off again.”
“No sorry. We haven’t seen any little girls fitting that description.” Said the man as he and his wife continued on their walk.  I then found another couple who seemed a more upper-class couple due to the diamond necklace around the woman’s neck.
“Excuse me could you both please help me I’m looking for my daughter have either of you……”
“We don’t have time to look for lost children, that’s what the servants are for.” Said the man.
“And who loses their child anyway? Such irresponsibility.” The woman snide.  I looked at them offendedly and said.
“At least I don’t dump my child on anyone else! I’m surprised that people like you could even have children.” They looked at me appalled before huffing and walking away from me.
I grunted and adjusted my jacket trying to compose myself when a small Cockney accent said.
“You said you were looking for (Y/n)?” I turned around and there was a young ginger haired boy with freckles speckled all over his face.  His bright blue eyes staring up at me and he wore a paper boy’s uniform.
“Yeah that’s my daughter’s name. Do you know where she is?”
“Course I do Gov. Just got done talking with her before I started my work sir. She’s right by the lake.”
“The Lake! Oh thank you lad. Thank you so much.”
“No problem, good luck governor.” I raced off towards the lake and when I got there, I soon saw my daughter sitting right by the lake surrounded by flowers and in her lap it looked like she was in the process of making a flower crown.
The important thing was that she was safe, but that little missy is sooo going to get it now.
I trudged my way towards her and exclaimed.
“(Y/n)!” she stopped her work and turned around.  Her big (e/c) eyes staring up at me and a smile spread across her face. She stood up and ran towards me and hugged around my legs.
“Daddy you came!”
“Yes I did.” I knelt down and began to check to see if she was hurt or worst case scenario been replaced by a Graske. “Are you hurt?”
“No I’m perfectly fine.”
“Answer me this then. Who was the first companion that we had together?”
“Rose Tyler.” Okay this was my baby girl.  I immediately hugged her and whispered to her as I rest my head on top of hers.
“I thought I had lost you.” I then separated from her before scolding her vert sternly, “Do you have any idea how worried I was!? You leave your room with no note! How on earth did you leave the TARDIS without my knowledge?!”
“Uncle Jack’s time jump watch.” She said nervously as she held out her wrist.  I looked down and right there was the time teleport watch that Jack had given her shortly after we met him for the first time in my previous state.
“That figures. Remind me to never let him give you anymore teleportation gifts without my permission.” I muttered to myself. “Bottom line is that you left the TARDIS without my permission and had me scared to death! What if something happened to you hmm? Did it ever cross your mind about how that would make me feel!?”
Yes I know my voice was steadily getting angrier and angrier but she should’ve realized that my one rule for her is to never, ever, ever leave the TARDIS without my permission or knowledge and she broke that rule.
“I—I’m sorry daddy. I just……thought that if I brought you here, you would be happy.” My anger quickly vanished and confusion now took its place.
“What?” I asked her.
“Ever since—” she deeply sighed. “After what happened with Donna you never smile anymore. No matter what I’ve done, I could never get you to smile. Your real smile, the smile that always made me feel loved and protected. I thought that maybe we could—stay here for a while till you were happy again.” She looked down with regret.
I rubbed my hand over my face and through my hair before looking back down at her. I cupped my hands over her face and I said to her.
“What would I ever do without you my little butterfly?” she smiled softly.
“So we can stay?” she asked.
“For now.” I answered her.  She squealed happily and immediately hugged me around my neck repeatedly telling me thank you.  I smiled and embraced my baby girl back and kissed the top of her head as I rocked her back and forth.
This little madam truly does have me wrapped around her little finger, and she seems to know it as well.  But she was right.  Staying in one area made you stop and admire what’s around you, and not stay trapped inside your head letting your demons torment you.
We stayed in 1908 for about five months just enjoying each other’s company.  Going to the park every day, having picnics and tea parties out in the garden of our rented little cottage, and stargazing every night teaching her more about the galaxy and the stars.
For the first time ever, I felt—peaceful, no regrets, no painful reminders of what I had to do to Donna, it was just me and my daughter.
The night comes to an end eventually, as it always does. The girl's finish gradually finish their meals, however, they sit and chat for a while with their full bellies settling. The girls talk about everything and anything, like the classes they would ultimately have the next day, homework, fussy professors; <i> anything and everything </i>. More likely than not, the girls would burst into a fit of laughter every few minutes. It was a good time, really, and by the end of the night, Dahyun's cheekbones were burning hot from how much smiling she'd done.
The girls eventually cleaned up after themselves before exiting the restaurant as a group, standing just outside as they bid their goodbyes. "We had so much fun," Tzuyu comments, hooking her and Momo's arms together at the elbow.
Momo nods in agreement and smiles warmly, "We need to do this again soon. Maybe this weekend?"
Dahyun and Sana nod simultaneously, the cute action of the pair makes Tzuyu chuckle. Sana, cutely oblivious to this, doesn't notice. "Sure, we can plan tomorrow or something once the weekend gets closer," Sana offers. "But, we'll see you around, right?" Dahyun, however, can feel a blush creep its way to her cheeks.
Momo and Tzuyu wave, "Yeah, bye! See you guys later!" Momo says, before her and Tzuyu turn around and start to disappear down the darkening, almost foggy campus as nighttime creeps up on the town.
Sana and Dahyun's homes were towards the opposite side of campus, so once the others left, the two friends turned around and started their own trek home.  Walking side by side along the sidewalk, the girls head for the grand entrance gates of the campus which protrude under the glow of bright streetlights. Their shoes create a soft, rhythmic beat on the ground as their movements fall in sync. When Sana steps forward with her left foot, so does Dahyun. Sana smiles at this, sneakily glancing at Dahyun to see if she notices (which she doesn't). It's a Wednesday night, and the campus is surprisingly quiet. Everyone must be busy tonight, Sana figures, perhaps getting their studies out of the way so they can have a fun weekend.
“Thanks for coming to the meeting with me," Sana breaks the comfortable silence that had settled over the girls as they walked. "I'm sorry for forcing you to pretend to be a foreigner."
Dahyun giggles, tucks a long strand of hair behind her ear as the two pass through the entrance gates, turning left so that they end up on the sidewalk of the main street. She thinks about how absurd such a statement would sound to an unknowing bystander, and laughs more.
"What?" Sana asks innocently, chubby cheeks pushing her eyes into crescents as she smiles at the other. "What's so funny?"
"Ah, nothing," Dahyun smiles at her, melting on the inside at how cute Sana could be. "Anyway, It's okay," Dahyun feels Sana playfully loop her arm into Dahyun's, locking them together at the elbow. Sana puts a little hop in her step, gleefully skipping alongside Dahyun. "You know what? I had fun. And-"
"And?" Sana quizzically persists, looking at Dahyun with a playful gaze.
"We made new friends, so..." Dahyun smiles. "No harm done."
Sana points at Dahyun, playfully booping the youngest of the pair on the nose. "See, I told you! I knew we'd have fun-- and the whole reason I made you come was so that we could meet new people!"
"What, am I not enough?" Dahyun teases.
Sana halts in her steps so fast trips over her own feet. Dahyun steadies her, watching with wide eyes as Sana laughs at herself for being so clumsy. "Of course you are," Sana tells her once she's composed herself. "You're more than enough."
Dahyun's mind goes blank as she stares back at Sana's beautiful face; her features are illuminated so nicely under the moonlight and her soft brown hair frames her face just right. It felt like Dahyun's entire world had stopped-- to be talked to so sweetly by such a perfect person made her insides feel all warm and tingly. It sounded gross, really. Like, seriously cliché. But Dahyun adored this new feeling she got when she was with Sana. She adored the feeling she got <i> because </i> of Sana.
"I don't think I've ever seen someone as clumsy as you," Dahyun teases once she finally crashes back down into reality. Sana playfully pushes her, erupting into laughter when Dahyun stumbles a bit. "Okay, guess I deserved that."
The pair are too busy laughing and fighting, as Dahyun jogs ahead with Sana following closely behind, playfully swatting the younger on the arm. Both girls feel as though they are the only ones in the world as they run along the street, crying out and laughing as they go. They slow to a stop at the bus stop deemed as the area where they would part ways, as it was an equal distance from both of the girl's respective homes.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Sana," Dahyun shyly casts her gaze toward the ground, suddenly feeling sheepish standing before her like this.
"Okay," Sana smiles, leans forward and tenderly snakes her arms around Dahyun's waist in a hug. Dahyun, taken aback, stands motionless with her arms at her sides. Electricity runs along Dahyun's back under Sana's touch, a tingle running up her spine and almost making her shiver. "You're supposed to hug back, you know..." Sana's voice is muffled from burying her face into Dahyun's warm body.
"Ah..." Dahyun, feeling stupid now, hurriedly wraps her arms around Sana and hugs her back. Sana giggles, "You're so cute, Dahyunie."
The younger blushes as they pull away. "See you tomorrow."
Sana steps back and waves goodbye. "See you tomorrow, Dahyunie!"
"Goodnight!" Dahyun calls, standing alone under the fluorescent light at the empty bus stop. Her arms hang at her sides as she watches Sana playfully skip down the road. Sana whirls around every few steps to wave goodbye, and Dahyun waves too. Once older girls has disappeared around the curve of the road, Dahyun lets out a deep sigh, her lips tugging upwards into a smile.
***
The next day rolls around and Dahyun begrudgingly finds her way in her early afternoon math class (the one she's only passing thanks to her "magical" Amethyst). She greets her professor with a respectful bow before trudging towards the rows of seats, settling on grabbing a random one in the middle, towards to the back of the lecture hall. As she goes through the rows of seats, a voice whisper-yells out to her. "Dahyun! Over here!"
She whips her head towards the sound where she finds a familiar girl with long brown hair and shimmering brown eyes. Dahyun's mind goes blank as she looks at the girl, jogging her memory of yesterday's events before suddenly realizing it was Tzuyu! Feeling both surprised and relieved, Dahyun ducks into Tzuyu's row and grabs the empty seat Tzuyu gestures for her to sit at.
“So this is where I knew you from," Tzuyu is smiling at her, watches as Dahyun sits her bag down and gets her supplies out for class. "I knew you looked familiar!"
"Ah, I'm sorry, I feel so stupid for not recognizing you," Dahyun blushes under Tzuyu's curious gaze. "Don't take it personally; I'm always so preoccupied with not failing this class that I just don't pay much attention to my surroundings."
"It's okay," Tzuyu waves it off. "I'm, like, decently average in math, so I can help you if you need me to."
"Oh, I'm okay. My Ame-" Dahyun cuts herself off, biting at her bottom lip as she wracks her brain for a cover up. "I mean, my um... My roommate has been helping me a lot lately, but I'll definitely come to you if I need anything!"
"Okay! I'm still around just in case," Tzuyu picks up her pen and starts writing her name and the date at the top of the notebook spread out on the desk before her.
"Thank you, Tzuyu. Anyway, how's Momo doing? Have you talked to her today?"
"Mhm, we have a morning class together so I see her every few days. Besides that, we try to hangout outside of class too," Tzuyu explains, doodling at the top of her paper. "Later we're going to that new café down the street, actually. If you and Sana don't have any plans then feel free to tag along!"
"Ah, thanks. I'll see what Sana's up to, but I should be free."
"Mhm," Tzuyu labels the current page of her notebook as 'notes'. "You know... Momo and I were talking and... Ah, how do I say this?"
Dahyun is curious now, and a bit nervous as she worries about whatever is on Tzuyu's mind. "What?"
"Um... Are you guys dating?"
Dahyun nearly chokes on her own spit, clearing her throat as she scrambles for something to say.
"I mean, if you guys are then that's okay. Don't take this in the wrong way," Tzuyu hurriedly adds, her youthful face softening sheepishly after Dahyun's reaction.
Dahyun blushes, adverting her eyes out of embarrassment. "We aren't; we're just friends."
"Oh okay. Just wondering since Momo kinda has a bit of a crush on her," Tzuyu blurts out, before her eyes suddenly go wide as she turns to look at Dahyun. "Oh God, don't tell her I told you! She'll kill me.”
"Momo has a crush on Sana?"
Tzuyu nods, "Mhm... Don't tell anyone, please."
Dahyun nods in agreement, and after a brief moment of silence Tzuyu goes on, "Momo really likes her. I mean, we both do. You and Sana are seriously the nicest people I've ever met," Tzuyu thinks for a moment. "I mean, I only view you and Sana as my friends though."
Dahyun feels her stomach flip in circles, her heart clenching as she's faced with this new dilemma. Tzuyu raises her eyebrows at Dahyun. "You have a crush on Sana too, don't you?"
Dahyun blushes. "Um... Well-"
"No way," Tzuyu giggles, seemingly proud of herself like she cracked some type of code. Dahyun bites her lip, looks down at her blank notebook as she processes this new information Tzuyu has shared. "Ah, it's so obvious."
"Good afternoon," the professor comes and stands at the middle of the room, looking up into the eyes of the students gathered in rows.
"Really?" Dahyun whispers, looking up at a smug Tzuyu. The youngest of the group nods, smirking to herself as she prepares to write down whatever the professor had to say. Feeling a bit anxious (not entirely sure what was making her anxious, too) Dahyun chews at her thumb. The professor continues to talk and Tzuyu maybe whispered something, but Dahyun has accidentally tuned everything out.
***
"So, are you doing anything now?" Tzuyu asks once the lecture has finally ended and everyone is left to freely chat and pack up their things.
"Um," Dahyun hesitates; she was about to text Sana. "Not that I know of, why?"
"I figured we could grab lunch. I invited the girls," Tzuyu tells her as she drops her notebook into her bookbag.
"You did?"
"Mhm, you should check your phone."
Dahyun pulls her cellphone out from where she left it in her bookbag during class. Upon turning the device on, her screen is littered with tons of new messages. "You guys made a group chat?"
"Pretty sure Sana made it while we were in class," Tzuyu tells her. She stands up and stretches, her back cracks so loud that its almost comical. Tzuyu smiles down at Dahyun as she slings her bag over her shoulder. "Well, are you coming? I'm starving; sushi sounds really good right now.
Chapter 3
Tumblr media
Professor!Jake x Reader
Series information
Series masterlist
---
I’m going mad at the prospect
Of you throwing love at me
And you’re not feeling the exact
Same feelings for me back
Yeah, fuck that
(Sidetrack – Catfish and the bottlemen)
---
When the bell rang, Jake asked the 5 students he selected for the project to stay a little longer.
You gathered around his table. But when you saw Wes approaching, you just couldn’t understand it. He probably hated Jake at this point. He was probably doing this exclusively to piss you off.
“So...” Jake said, making your eyes leave Wes for a second. “First of all, I’d like to thank you again for being part of this. I hope you really enjoy the experience.”
“Thank you for the opportunity, professor.” You said. He stopped for a second and smiled at you.
While that moment lasted, you felt like the two of you shared some kind of secret. It felt like you had an especial connection that all the other students had no idea about. You wondered if he was feeling that too.
“You’re very welcome.” He cleared his throat and continued his little speech.
Meanwhile, he wondered if that whole thing was a good idea. To spend extra time with you on his lab. You didn’t even start yet and he was pretty sure everyone noticed how much you distracted him. Or maybe it was all in his head.
“I was thinking that maybe we could reunite at the lab every Friday around 4pm?” He asked after explaining the project a little better.
Everyone agreed.
“Okay, then.” He smiled. “See you on Friday.”
After a few goodbyes, you tried to be the last one to leave. You needed to talk to Jake about that day he helped you after class, since you never had the opportunity. You felt like you didn’t thank him enough. At the same time, you wanted to have another moment like that. Just you and him. Sharing secrets like two old friends. Him being worried about you. His hand brushing yours...
But Wes was glued to you like a fucking shadow. So you had to say goodbye too and walk away, hoping nobody would follow you.
But as soon as you walked through the door, you felt that Wes was still behind you, so you turned around and stopped walking.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” You rolled your eyes at him. “Why are you in this project? You hate him. You said disgusting things about him. And about me too.”
“Because I can’t let you be alone on a lab with him.” He admitted. “God only knows what he’s capable of.”
“You’re a fucking stalker, that’s what you are.” You yelled at him, and everyone around you looked, so you had to take a deep breath and lower your voice. “You have to let me live my life.”
“I’m just trying to protect you.” He muttered.
“You’re trying to control me. You know what? What you’re doing is a hundred times more toxic than what you accuse Mr. Gyllenhaal of. So you should think twice before talking about him.”
“I can’t believe you’re giving up on your best friend because of a man who’s never going to love you back.” He looked like he was about to cry.
“I-” You felt your heart break at those words. You knew they were true, but he didn’t have to say it like that. “I don’t want to see you ever again. I don’t want to hear your voice.”
After saying that, you turned your back and walked away. You didn’t know where you were going, you just needed to get away from that situation.
You weren’t sure how far you went before feeling a hand on your shoulder. You turned around ready to kick Wes in the balls, when you saw Jake.
“Mr. Gyllenhaal?” You forced a smile and wiped the tears that were starting to fall on your sleeve. “I’m sorry, I’m just...”
“Tired again?” He sighed. “Y/N, I saw what happened.”
Your heart stopped.
“Did you hear what we said?” You asked, and you had no clue how you would be able to explain yourself.
“No.” He said, making the blood on your body start to flow normally again. “I was organizing some papers on my desk, and I saw that you two were having a fight on the hallway... I don’t know what happened, and I know it’s really none of my business, but you looked so nervous, I...”
You nodded slowly. But he didn’t finish the phrase. Instead, he decided to say:
“Why don’t you come back to the classroom with me? We can talk if you want to... Or you can just sit down for a minute...”
You smiled for real this time. There he was, helping you again. Clearly worried about you. Wes was so wrong about him. You just wanted to give him a hug, bury your face on his chest and let him hold you. But you knew that would probably be too much, so you just followed him back to the classroom.
You sat on the first row, on the chair that was the closest to his desk. He started going through the papers on his desk, but sent you a reassurance smile, and you knew that meant he wanted you to talk.
But you weren’t really sure if you should... It was a fact that the two of you had a great relationship, and he seemed to care about you. But he was still your professor. He wasn’t a friend. He wasn’t even close of what you wanted him to be.
Still, you felt so comfortable around him... and he wanted to hear what you had to say.
“Wes is my best friend.” You started unexpectedly, making him look at you again. “But lately he’s been hurting me. On purpose.”
His heart stopped for a second. He needed to control himself, he couldn’t let you see how much the mere thought of someone hurting you affected him. But it pissed him off beyond his own comprehension.
“I don’t know, maybe he’s jealous or just a huge asshole.” You continued.
Jealous. That word hit Jake’s stomach and he felt something similar to what you felt the week before. The thought of you being in love with someone else slowly consuming him inside.
He forgot about all his papers and sighed, sitting next to you.
“What do you mean... hurting you?” He felt the urge to either hold your hand or punch something, but he knew he couldn’t.
Suddenly, you didn’t care anymore about any formalities. Yes, Jake was your professor, but he seemed to care more about you than your best friend, who was only making the situation worse. You couldn’t tell him what was behind this fight with Wes. You couldn’t tell him he was the reason all along. But you could tell him what Wes was doing to you. Turn one against the other.
“The only reason why Wes applied for your project was to watch my every step. He’s not really interested on it.” You said at once, feeling your heart race at the thought of getting him in trouble.
Jake couldn’t believe what you just said. He had a hard time trying to find a reply.
“Y/N...” He looked at you with extreme concern on his face. “This is very serious. Are you sure about that?”
“Yes.” You looked him in the eyes to assure him. “He just told me that at the hallway.”
Jake couldn’t hide his anger anymore. He ran his hands through his hair and you watched the scene in awe. You had to press your thighs together at how hot it was.
“Don’t worry, he’s not gonna participate on the project anymore.” He sighed. “I’ll email him as soon as I get home. And invite someone who’s actually interested on it.”
You had to gather all your strength to not smirk. The feeling of revenge running through your veins. In the end, the one who stood by your side was the one who was being called the villain of the story.
“Thank you.” You looked him in the eyes again, with a smile now. “I mean... For everything. For what you did last week. For inviting me for your project. And for listening to me now.”
“I’m tired of seeing you so upset all the time.” He shrugged and looked down.
It warmed your heart. But there was always that little sadness deep inside you that knew he didn’t mean what you wished he did.
“I’m sorry, professor.” You snapped back to reality after a few minutes of silence. But it wasn’t an award kind of silence. His presence was so comforting, even when he didn’t say anything. “I know you must have a lot of things to do and... well, I gotta go too.”
“Are you sure you’re gonna be okay?” He did have a lot of things to do, but he didn’t want you to go. “I can stay a little longer if you need me to.”
“I would stay here and talk to you forever if I could.”
When you noticed, it was already too late. Those words had already left your lips and you felt a shiver down your spine. You wanted to disappear from that planet.
But his reaction was even more unexpected.
“Well.” He chuckled. “Are you free this Friday night?”
Part 6 of Lumity fanfic
(Okay I’m serious now any suggestions for the fanfic’s actual name?)
——
“Holy mother load of clouds- did you actually make these?!” squealed Luz as she munched through Amity’s cookies.
“Uh ye-“ Amity started.
“Here Willow have some!! You have to try these, they are fantastic!!!!!” Luz interrupted as she shoved a cookie into Willow’s mouth.
“Oh, can I also save some for Gus too? He’s a grade below us and he is a big fan of cookies!!” Luz added excitedly.
“Yeah sure,” Amity said.
She didn’t know what was going on. It was lunch and Luz came uninvited. She brought a friend over and loudly talked and talked. Amity looked at what little cookies she had left and cried a little inside. The girl had started out asking for one cookie, but she quickly got addicted to them. So one after the other, they started to disappear at a fast rate.
Not that Amity was complaining— she just wished she could have some quiet and peace.
She looked up at the sky.
The school had allowed students to eat outside wherever they wanted to since it was a nice day outside. The day was warm, and the sun was shining at a perfect angle behind the pillows of clouds. Amity sighed, she just wanted to enjoy this day by herself.
Then she looked back to Luz and her friend.
What was her name? Willow? Amity’s attention soon drifted to her outfitware. Willow wore circular glasses and golden brown overalls with a few smudges of dirt on it. Willow must have seen her looking because she turned red with embarrassment.
“S-sorry,” Willow stuttered after swallowing the cookie. “I changed the soil for my plants this morning and I didn’t have time to change my clothes,”
“Also your cookies are good-“
Amity didn’t say anything for a moment, mainly because she was shocked that she had noticed her staring. Then she felt guilty for no actual reason.
“It’s rude to stare,” she remembered her mother saying in a demeaning tone when she was little.
Her thoughts were interrupted when Luz made a comment.
“Girl, what time do you wake up everyday to do that? School starts at 8:00 in the morning!” Luz said.
“I awake at 6:00,” Willow responded.
“But sleep?” Luz asked.
“What’s that?”
...
There was a long stretch of silence until Willow broke down laughing.
“I’m joking! I’m joking, I sleep at 9:00 pm!” She laughed, wiping a tear away from her eye.
“Homework?” Amity questioned.
“I get them done early,” Willow said.
The bell for next period rang and it was time to clean up.
“What do you have next?” Luz asked Willow.
“Sign language,” Willow responded.
“Aw, I have writing,” Luz said. “ Goodbye old friend—“ she said jokingly as they went their separate ways.
Luz saw Amity trailing her and instantly lit up.
“You have writing too?” She asked excitedly, almost dropping her books.
Amity sighed again, and with a stone face, she nodded.
Luz was practically a walking screaming air balloon as they walked to class.
To be continued...
