The night comes to an end eventually, as it always does. The girl's finish gradually finish their meals, however, they sit and chat for a while with their full bellies settling. The girls talk about everything and anything, like the classes they would ultimately have the next day, homework, fussy professors; <i> anything and everything </i>. More likely than not, the girls would burst into a fit of laughter every few minutes. It was a good time, really, and by the end of the night, Dahyun's cheekbones were burning hot from how much smiling she'd done.
The girls eventually cleaned up after themselves before exiting the restaurant as a group, standing just outside as they bid their goodbyes. "We had so much fun," Tzuyu comments, hooking her and Momo's arms together at the elbow.
Momo nods in agreement and smiles warmly, "We need to do this again soon. Maybe this weekend?"
Dahyun and Sana nod simultaneously, the cute action of the pair makes Tzuyu chuckle. Sana, cutely oblivious to this, doesn't notice. "Sure, we can plan tomorrow or something once the weekend gets closer," Sana offers. "But, we'll see you around, right?" Dahyun, however, can feel a blush creep its way to her cheeks.
Momo and Tzuyu wave, "Yeah, bye! See you guys later!" Momo says, before her and Tzuyu turn around and start to disappear down the darkening, almost foggy campus as nighttime creeps up on the town.
Sana and Dahyun's homes were towards the opposite side of campus, so once the others left, the two friends turned around and started their own trek home.  Walking side by side along the sidewalk, the girls head for the grand entrance gates of the campus which protrude under the glow of bright streetlights. Their shoes create a soft, rhythmic beat on the ground as their movements fall in sync. When Sana steps forward with her left foot, so does Dahyun. Sana smiles at this, sneakily glancing at Dahyun to see if she notices (which she doesn't). It's a Wednesday night, and the campus is surprisingly quiet. Everyone must be busy tonight, Sana figures, perhaps getting their studies out of the way so they can have a fun weekend.
“Thanks for coming to the meeting with me," Sana breaks the comfortable silence that had settled over the girls as they walked. "I'm sorry for forcing you to pretend to be a foreigner."
Dahyun giggles, tucks a long strand of hair behind her ear as the two pass through the entrance gates, turning left so that they end up on the sidewalk of the main street. She thinks about how absurd such a statement would sound to an unknowing bystander, and laughs more.
"What?" Sana asks innocently, chubby cheeks pushing her eyes into crescents as she smiles at the other. "What's so funny?"
"Ah, nothing," Dahyun smiles at her, melting on the inside at how cute Sana could be. "Anyway, It's okay," Dahyun feels Sana playfully loop her arm into Dahyun's, locking them together at the elbow. Sana puts a little hop in her step, gleefully skipping alongside Dahyun. "You know what? I had fun. And-"
"And?" Sana quizzically persists, looking at Dahyun with a playful gaze.
"We made new friends, so..." Dahyun smiles. "No harm done."
Sana points at Dahyun, playfully booping the youngest of the pair on the nose. "See, I told you! I knew we'd have fun-- and the whole reason I made you come was so that we could meet new people!"
"What, am I not enough?" Dahyun teases.
Sana halts in her steps so fast trips over her own feet. Dahyun steadies her, watching with wide eyes as Sana laughs at herself for being so clumsy. "Of course you are," Sana tells her once she's composed herself. "You're more than enough."
Dahyun's mind goes blank as she stares back at Sana's beautiful face; her features are illuminated so nicely under the moonlight and her soft brown hair frames her face just right. It felt like Dahyun's entire world had stopped-- to be talked to so sweetly by such a perfect person made her insides feel all warm and tingly. It sounded gross, really. Like, seriously cliché. But Dahyun adored this new feeling she got when she was with Sana. She adored the feeling she got <i> because </i> of Sana.
"I don't think I've ever seen someone as clumsy as you," Dahyun teases once she finally crashes back down into reality. Sana playfully pushes her, erupting into laughter when Dahyun stumbles a bit. "Okay, guess I deserved that."
The pair are too busy laughing and fighting, as Dahyun jogs ahead with Sana following closely behind, playfully swatting the younger on the arm. Both girls feel as though they are the only ones in the world as they run along the street, crying out and laughing as they go. They slow to a stop at the bus stop deemed as the area where they would part ways, as it was an equal distance from both of the girl's respective homes.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Sana," Dahyun shyly casts her gaze toward the ground, suddenly feeling sheepish standing before her like this.
"Okay," Sana smiles, leans forward and tenderly snakes her arms around Dahyun's waist in a hug. Dahyun, taken aback, stands motionless with her arms at her sides. Electricity runs along Dahyun's back under Sana's touch, a tingle running up her spine and almost making her shiver. "You're supposed to hug back, you know..." Sana's voice is muffled from burying her face into Dahyun's warm body.
"Ah..." Dahyun, feeling stupid now, hurriedly wraps her arms around Sana and hugs her back. Sana giggles, "You're so cute, Dahyunie."
The younger blushes as they pull away. "See you tomorrow."
Sana steps back and waves goodbye. "See you tomorrow, Dahyunie!"
"Goodnight!" Dahyun calls, standing alone under the fluorescent light at the empty bus stop. Her arms hang at her sides as she watches Sana playfully skip down the road. Sana whirls around every few steps to wave goodbye, and Dahyun waves too. Once older girls has disappeared around the curve of the road, Dahyun lets out a deep sigh, her lips tugging upwards into a smile.
***
The next day rolls around and Dahyun begrudgingly finds her way in her early afternoon math class (the one she's only passing thanks to her "magical" Amethyst). She greets her professor with a respectful bow before trudging towards the rows of seats, settling on grabbing a random one in the middle, towards to the back of the lecture hall. As she goes through the rows of seats, a voice whisper-yells out to her. "Dahyun! Over here!"
She whips her head towards the sound where she finds a familiar girl with long brown hair and shimmering brown eyes. Dahyun's mind goes blank as she looks at the girl, jogging her memory of yesterday's events before suddenly realizing it was Tzuyu! Feeling both surprised and relieved, Dahyun ducks into Tzuyu's row and grabs the empty seat Tzuyu gestures for her to sit at.
“So this is where I knew you from," Tzuyu is smiling at her, watches as Dahyun sits her bag down and gets her supplies out for class. "I knew you looked familiar!"
"Ah, I'm sorry, I feel so stupid for not recognizing you," Dahyun blushes under Tzuyu's curious gaze. "Don't take it personally; I'm always so preoccupied with not failing this class that I just don't pay much attention to my surroundings."
"It's okay," Tzuyu waves it off. "I'm, like, decently average in math, so I can help you if you need me to."
"Oh, I'm okay. My Ame-" Dahyun cuts herself off, biting at her bottom lip as she wracks her brain for a cover up. "I mean, my um... My roommate has been helping me a lot lately, but I'll definitely come to you if I need anything!"
"Okay! I'm still around just in case," Tzuyu picks up her pen and starts writing her name and the date at the top of the notebook spread out on the desk before her.
"Thank you, Tzuyu. Anyway, how's Momo doing? Have you talked to her today?"
"Mhm, we have a morning class together so I see her every few days. Besides that, we try to hangout outside of class too," Tzuyu explains, doodling at the top of her paper. "Later we're going to that new café down the street, actually. If you and Sana don't have any plans then feel free to tag along!"
"Ah, thanks. I'll see what Sana's up to, but I should be free."
"Mhm," Tzuyu labels the current page of her notebook as 'notes'. "You know... Momo and I were talking and... Ah, how do I say this?"
Dahyun is curious now, and a bit nervous as she worries about whatever is on Tzuyu's mind. "What?"
"Um... Are you guys dating?"
Dahyun nearly chokes on her own spit, clearing her throat as she scrambles for something to say.
"I mean, if you guys are then that's okay. Don't take this in the wrong way," Tzuyu hurriedly adds, her youthful face softening sheepishly after Dahyun's reaction.
Dahyun blushes, adverting her eyes out of embarrassment. "We aren't; we're just friends."
"Oh okay. Just wondering since Momo kinda has a bit of a crush on her," Tzuyu blurts out, before her eyes suddenly go wide as she turns to look at Dahyun. "Oh God, don't tell her I told you! She'll kill me.”
"Momo has a crush on Sana?"
Tzuyu nods, "Mhm... Don't tell anyone, please."
Dahyun nods in agreement, and after a brief moment of silence Tzuyu goes on, "Momo really likes her. I mean, we both do. You and Sana are seriously the nicest people I've ever met," Tzuyu thinks for a moment. "I mean, I only view you and Sana as my friends though."
Dahyun feels her stomach flip in circles, her heart clenching as she's faced with this new dilemma. Tzuyu raises her eyebrows at Dahyun. "You have a crush on Sana too, don't you?"
Dahyun blushes. "Um... Well-"
"No way," Tzuyu giggles, seemingly proud of herself like she cracked some type of code. Dahyun bites her lip, looks down at her blank notebook as she processes this new information Tzuyu has shared. "Ah, it's so obvious."
"Good afternoon," the professor comes and stands at the middle of the room, looking up into the eyes of the students gathered in rows.
"Really?" Dahyun whispers, looking up at a smug Tzuyu. The youngest of the group nods, smirking to herself as she prepares to write down whatever the professor had to say. Feeling a bit anxious (not entirely sure what was making her anxious, too) Dahyun chews at her thumb. The professor continues to talk and Tzuyu maybe whispered something, but Dahyun has accidentally tuned everything out.
***
"So, are you doing anything now?" Tzuyu asks once the lecture has finally ended and everyone is left to freely chat and pack up their things.
"Um," Dahyun hesitates; she was about to text Sana. "Not that I know of, why?"
"I figured we could grab lunch. I invited the girls," Tzuyu tells her as she drops her notebook into her bookbag.
"You did?"
"Mhm, you should check your phone."
Dahyun pulls her cellphone out from where she left it in her bookbag during class. Upon turning the device on, her screen is littered with tons of new messages. "You guys made a group chat?"
"Pretty sure Sana made it while we were in class," Tzuyu tells her. She stands up and stretches, her back cracks so loud that its almost comical. Tzuyu smiles down at Dahyun as she slings her bag over her shoulder. "Well, are you coming? I'm starving; sushi sounds really good right now.

"taehyung, what the hell are you bringing me to?" mina asked upon seeing the building ahead of them. the windows were bright and flashing with pulsing, blinding lights. even from outside mina could hear the announcer's voice booming through the sound system.
the guys laughed at this. "mina, it's okay," taehyung reassured her. "you'll be fine."
mina sighed, but she had no choice so she followed behind the group like a lost puppy. hoseok separated from the group to go to the backrooms to prepare. a stranger man met him the moment they stepped into the building and the two walked away talking.
"that's one of the team members. he kinda sits to the side and keeps him going, you know?" taehyung explained to a baffled mina.
"ahh," mina broke into a smile, and cheered for her brother's friend. "good luck, hoseok!"
"thank you mina!" he called over his shoulder, flashing the group a big smile before disappearing into the crowd.
"doesn't he get hurt?" mina asked as the group continued their walk through the crowd. jungkook and jimin chortled at that.
"of course," taehyung replied. "i mean: they're up there beating the shit out of each other."
mina gulped, she felt a hint of uneasiness.
"but he's fine. hoseok is a really good fighter; i'm confident he'll win this fight."
"yeah," jimin chimed in. "usually hoseok leaves with a busted lip at most. he's really good."
"if you say so..." mina frowned.
about ten minutes later and the fight was starting. the announcer bound out onto the stage, yelling into his mic to hype up the crowd. he introduced the two fighters, and the guys erupted into yells when hoseok was brought on. a few minutes later and the bell sounded, signaling the beginning of the fight.
mina winced, watching as the two fighters in the ring started. the first punch hadn't been thrown yet, but mina was on the edge of her seat as she waited for it. the opponent was big; hoseok surely had muscles and a strong body but he was a bit on the skinny side. it made mina nervous.
"tae, are you sure-"
"mina he's fine," taehyung immediately shut her down.
finally, the first punch was thrown and chaos ensued from them. the crowd went from 0-100 in seconds; people were screaming and jumping around in the crowd. it made mina even more anxious— and she tried to shrink back into the crowd to escape the utter chaos. however, this proved to be a bad idea as she somehow ended up completely separated from her group.
"taehyung?" she called out, her feeble voice barely detectable over the pumping music and cheering crowd. "tae?!"
panic started to settle in now as she couldn't find a familiar face anywhere. her heart was racing and her legs shaking as she spun in circles, looking for the group she came with. mina clenched her clammy hands into fists at her side as she pushed through the crowd.
"hey there, pretty girl."
mina nearly jumped out of her skin, whipping around to find two strange men standing there. they were young but still older than her by a good bit: around her brother's age. the two of them weren't handsome at all, in fact they were pretty rugged and dingy looking.
"you here all by yourself?" one of them asked, tilting his head back to take a swig of alcohol from the the glass bottle in his hand. he shameless racked his eyes over her body, looking her up and down without a care in the world. mina suddenly felt disgusted and ashamed under his intense gaze, protectively folding her arms over her torso.
"i-"
"damn, she's a pretty one," the other piped up, and he too shamelessly chcecked her out. he licked his lips, "you should come join us for some drinks, beautiful."
the two nudged each other and chuckled. their smug expressions made mina sick to her stomach — literally, as she felt the room start to spin. "no, thank you... i, um-"
one of the men stepped forward suddenly, slinking his arm around her shoulder like they were good friends. "aw, come on," he smirked at her, nudging her with his hip. "a pretty girl like you deserves a drink. on us."
"no, thank you-" mina tried to pull away but he was holding her tight. she also couldn't muster up much strength as she prayed for her queasy stomach to settle down. honestly mina thought she'd crumble to the floor then and there.
and then mina sees him; the familiar tall man with his recognizable tattoos littering his arms. her heart started to race as she made eye contact with the handsome man, who looked back at her with a questionable look.
"hey, mina," jungkook came up beside them, looking the two strangers up and down. "who's your friends?"
the rush of joy mina had gotten started to dwindle away and was replaced by the sudden embarrassement over jungkook cleaning up her mess once again. "i-i don't know... i was looking for you guys..."
jungkook's head tilted to the side upon hearing this, eyes turning cold as his gaze settled back onto the strangers. now facing a potential threat: his chest puffed out a bit, he stood a bit taller, and the muscles in his jaw were suddenly more defined.
"you her boyfriend or something?" the guy holding mina scoffed, looking annoyed at jungkook's intervening.
"no," jungkook grabbed ahold of mina's wrist. his cool fingers pressed against her skin gently. "let her go."
"fuck off," the other man spoke up now. "we're just offering the pretty girl a drink."
jungkook smirked, unable to hide the laugh coming to his face from how utterly pathetic the two guys were. "she would like to respectfully turn down your offer. mina, let's go."
"is he your boyfriend?" the one holding mina turned to her now; completely ignoring jungkook at this point.
"i'm not going to tell you boys again to fuck off," jungkook stepped forward so he now towered over them. "she's. not. interested."
the man let go of mina to step forward, knocking his chest into jungkook which pushed him back a step. "what are you gonna do about it? huh?"
"jungkook, stop," mina whined, grabbing ahold of his tattooed arm. "can we please go?"
jungkook stated daggers back at the man, swallowing down his pride as he decided that walking away would be the best; for mina. he knew he could easily take on both men, but, he also had a responsibility. a responsibility that taehyung would kill him over.
so with that jungkook deemed the conflict over, grabbing mina by the arm and leading her away. the men would persist and yell after them, but that didn't matter to jungkook right now. the young fighter was well familiar with the layout of the building and could easily navigate them out, having fought her multiple times before. "fuck, i need a smoke," he would say as the two approached the double doors leading out.
"jesus christ," mina breathed out once they were outside, stepping to the side of the entry way to settle her racing heart.
"you okay?" jungkook asked. he retired to the weathered brick wall of the old building and leaned up against it. reaching into the pocket of his ripped black jeans, he fished out a cigarette and lighter.
"i guess..." mina came and stood beside him, leaning up against the wall herself. her legs were still shaking. "god, i'm so sorry."
"i'm such an idiot; i don't know how i even got separated from you guys." she held her head in her hands as she apologized, feeling utterly guilty for the fuss she had caused.
jungkook chuckled to himself and took a long drag from the cigarette. "you're really good at getting yourself into trouble, you know that?"
mina looked up at him, searching his face for signs of anger. it was really puzzling to her how unbothered he remained. mina was used to, well, quite the opposite. she looked back down at the ground, nervously dragging the bottom of her shoe against the concrete . "i know..."
"but seriously, are you okay?" jungkook asked. he breathed out a cloud of smoke before looking down at her. mina watched the fluffy billow float upwards, breaking up into wisps as it became one with the air. "did they do anything?"
"i'm okay," mina glanced over at him, watching his take another drag. "it just... it scared me more than anything."
jungkook tsked, flicking the cigarette. a single ash fluttered to the ground and extinguished upon impact. "i wish i saw you sooner."
"it's okay..." mina hesitated. "it was my fault anyway. i'm sorry."
"don't be," jungkook breathed out another cloud of smoke.
it fell silent for a moment. jungkook took one last drag of his cigarette. "there's a new ramen place in town. wanna go sometime?"
mina paused, curious eyes looking him over as she considered it. flashbacks of taehyung's bitter words about jungkook's character played in her mind. but, on the other hand, she deserved a social life. dating hyunjin made her lose all her friends. he was really good at isolating her.
a shiver went through her body, snapping her back into reality. "sure," she said after a moment.
"are you sure?" jungkook teased, extinguishing what was left of his cigarette on the brick wall. "you thought about it for  a moment."
"i'm sure."
"how about tomorrow after taehyung's match? the place is open late."
"okay-"
"jungkook! what the hell?"
the two jumped, looking over to the side to find taehyung flying out from the building with jimin hot on his heels. "jesus fucking christ mina!"
"i'm sorry," she murmured, shrinking behind jungkook.
"you scared the shit out of me! what were you thinking?!"
mina didn't respond, instead sheepishly looking down at her feet. she played with a loose thread on her jeans as she avoided her brother's angry stare.
"why the fuck are you guys out here? we were looking everywhere for you, mina!"
jungkook's calm and collected tone suddenly broke up the tension as he spoke, "ah, she's fine."
"these guys wouldn't leave me alone..." she said, feeling tears gather in her eyes. she looked away, willing herself not to cry.
"mina, oh my god," taehyung came over and brushed her off, gingerly pushing her hair from her face. "did they touch you? are you okay?"
"i'm fine..." she told him. "i'm sorry."
taehyung sighed, rubbed at his throbbing temple.
"is the fight almost over? i want to go home," she murmured.
"the fight's nearly over," taehyung started to say. "can't you go back in there for ten more minutes?"
mina nodded. and with that she blinked the tears out of her eyes before standing up off the wall. she let out a nervous breath before following the three men back into the building.

the group gathered back in the practice room; mina sitting against the wall again and the boys back to their respective exercises. taehyung and jungkook had moved on to weights while the other pairing was now at the punching bags. mina crossed her legs on the floor of the room and pulled out her phone.
she turned the device on and immediately deleted the app that sent her location to hyunjin; which was now he figured out where she was. the last thing she needed was for him to find taehyung's apartment. she knew he'd call her, screaming at her to download the app again but she was just going to ignore the calls.
should i block him? she started to ponder. mina thought that maybe she'd hold off on that for now; since they still had to settle what would happen to their shared apartment and belongings eventually.
suddenly a shadow casted over her, causing her to subconsciously tense up. she found jungkook standing over her, sweat plastering his white t-shirt to his fit frame. she noticed the slight outline of abs on his stomach, which she glanced at until she started feeling embarrassed.
"he's a prick," jungkook said as he patted his face dry with a hand towel, hinting at the unpleasant man he had dealt with earlier.
"oh, i know," mina responded indifferently with a shrug.
jungkook shook his head, "he's pathetic, you know? i saw him acting all hard when it was just you out there but the second i came out he didn't look so tough anymore."
before mina could respond, jungkook questioned her, "taehyung really doesn't know anything? about how much of a dick he is?"
feeling ashamed, mina shook her head. "i'm trying-"
"hey kook,"speak of the devil; taehyung's voice boomed from across the room, causing the two to jump. "stop harassing my sister."
jungkook rolled his eyes and flicked his hair out from his eyes disinterestedly. "i'm not," he called over his shoulder.
"well... thank you anyway," mina told him. "i could've handled it myself but i appreciate it."
"don't mention it," jungkook shrugged. "i don't tolerate pussy men pushing around women."
and with that he turned, confidently striding back over to tae. mina just watched in awe, a bit flabbergasted over jungkook's 'i don't care' facade. he was pretty cool, she had to admit. he wasn't the type to get hung up over petty things, she thought. mina wished she was more like that.
how wonderful her life would be if she had that attitude, she thought. maybe then hyunjin wouldn't treat her so horribly.
"would you please leave her alone," taehyung would say to the youngest boy once he returned. he lowered his voice so mina didn't hear him. "she's not your type; give it a rest."
jungkook sighed. "hyung for the last time; i didn't do anything."
"well, i know how you can be," taehyung sarcastically chided.
"hey, you two," hoseok warned upon hearing the men fighting back and forth. "stop it."
"yeah, jungkook you need to respect your hyungs. taehyung's just doing his job as her older brother," jimin chimed in. again, jungkook rolled his eyes.
taehyung and jungkook were the closest pairing of the group; they were always together. and because they had spent so much time together, taehyung knew the type of person jungkook could be; he liked to flirt and sleep around. and because of this, taehyung absolutely hated jungkook interacting with mina.
***
well after practice had ended, taehyung and mina hopped into his car and headed for her apartment. "he's at work, right?"
"hyunjin? yeah. he is."
the car fell silent for a moment, save for mina having to direct him every now and then.
"you know, i'm doing a lot for this stupid cat... i had to put down a small pet fee."
"ah, i'm sorry," mina apologized regretfully. "i'll buy you dinner sometime, but right now i'm short on money."
"what happened to your job? haven't you've been there for awhile?"
mina bit her lip, nimble fingers fidgeting nervously in her lap. "i, um, i left..."
taehyung glanced at her, noticing her exterior shift to uncomfortable. it was a bit strange, but he decided not to press on for now. "well, the boys and i are going to hoseok's fight tomorrow to support him. you're welcome to come if you want."
"i mean," taehyung started. "i'm sure that's not your thing but we could go out to dinner or something too,"
"hm... okay," mina would agree after a moment.
"i've missed you a lot, mina. we barely talked for the past year or so."
"i know... i'm really sorry." she felt ashamed all of the sudden as taehyung brought it up.
"no, it's okay. you were starting your new life; i understand." taehyung says. "i'm proud of you! you're an adult now: not my little baby sister i grew up with."
"tae i'm almost twenty. i've been an adult for a minute now," she teased back.
but it was true; the two of them had a four year age gap so when they were growing up, mina really was the baby of the family. but they were a lot closer these days now that taehyung was 24 and mina 19. they got along even better as adults.
"almost? you still have a few months left, kid," he teased, making her roll her eyes.
only a few minutes later and the two had finally reached her apartment. taehyung parked the car and followed her into the complex, agreeing to come inside and help her carry what she needed. he'd carry all the pet stuff; the carrier, litter box, food bowls, etc. while mina grabbed another bag of clothes and such that she'd need.
"so you're really moving out, huh?" taehyung would ask, leaning against the wall of her bedroom while he watched her pack up.
"mhm," she said. "i'll get what i can today but i can come back eventually to get the rest. once everything is official."
it went silent for a moment, as taehyung fell into thought and mina resumed her packing.
"hey... you can stay with me as long as you need. really," taehyung insisted. "don't worry about mom and dad; just stay with me until you get back on your feet."
mina turned to smile at him. "thank you, tae."
the whole thing only took maybe fifteen minutes, and the pair carried everything to the car. mina sat with the cat in its carrier, right on her lap in the passenger's seat.
"so, what's it's name?" taehyung asked.
"oh," mina broke into a sheepish smile. "his name is goldie."
at the mention of his name his little orange face peeked through the bars, innocently meowing at his owner. "goldie?" taehyung repeated. "wow... i can tell you thought long and hard on that one."
mina groaned and rolled her eyes, playfully reaching over to give him a little push. "hey, i like it."
taehyung couldn't help but smile. he wasn't going to pick on her for now; he was just glad to have his baby sister back.

tick... tick... tick...
mina let out a deep sigh, shifting from lying on her back to now her side. her focus trained on the clock hanging on the wall beside the bed; it's steady, monotonous tick was this weird mix of soothing and irritating. it provided some decent white noise, but also only provoked mina further as it reminded her of the time passing by where she was unable to fall back asleep.
she had gone to bed that night at around midnight but woke up later at around 3:50. currently it was 4:35; nearly an hour she had spent staring at the wall and tv to lull herself back to sleep. anyway, she had woken up from a bad dream. her mind replayed the events of last night's fight with her boyfriend (soon-to-be ex). even in her sleep, the events unfolded over and over again.
"god," mina muttered as she reached over and picked her phone up. she squinted under the bright light, glaring at the text messages and missed call notifications from him. "i hate you."
they fought often but this one was different. he had taken it too far; shoved her around the apartment, screamed directly in her face, and, sadly, hit her. even when she cried and begged the fighting to stop, he didn't stop. mina hated him right now. or, well, she wanted to hate him. a part of her still cared about him and wanted things to work out between them.
after a few minutes of staring at the words on her phone, she got up and ventured out through the dark apartment. passing through the living room, she ended up in the kitchen where she fished a water bottle out from the fridge. she drank half of it in fast gulps, the cold water cooling her warm body off.
mina put it back into the fridge and wandered over to the grand window overlooking the city of seoul. taehyung had gotten himself a nice apartment, mina thought. she knew he was a fighter— an underground boxer of some sorts— but she never knew the extent of his job
"damn," she muttered, admiring the marble flooring and beautiful view. "he must be good."
she'd actually never seen him fight, even though he's been in the industry for years now. anyway, she searched through the city below, imagining she could find the apartment she shared with hyunjin. well, she kinda shared it. these days it's like he owned it and she simply just lived there.
in the beginning they had both worked to afford to live there together. but as months of dating turned into years, hyunjin thought it would be best for him to be the sole money-maker of the household. she wasn't allowed to work or have friends (or really do anything).
mina brought her hand to the glass, tracing her fingertip along it. later today she'd have to go get her beloved cat who she had left at home when she rushed to pack a quick overnight bag. she felt sorry for leaving the poor thing with that asshole.
"what are you doing up?"
mina jumped, gasping out loud as she whirled around and was met with the dark figure standing behind her. "jesus christ, tae," she groaned. "did you have to sneak up on me like that?"
"sorry," he shrugged. "what's up?"
"nothing, just couldn't sleep," mina told him. she quickly remembered what she had been thinking about just a few seconds before. "hey, i um... is there anyway my cat could stay here too?"
"a cat?" taehyung would chortle. "mina-"
"please, tae. just for a few days. i still need to call mom and dad to see if they'll let me move back in with them."
"why?" he asked. "you aren't going back home?"
"no," mina frowned. "i'm breaking things off as soon as possible. i just need to go grab a few things today, if you could take me?"
"oh, mina, i'm sorry," and here came taehyung's soft, nurturing side as a big brother. "you two have been together for so long. what happened?"
"he's a jerk," mina simply said. "i'm not putting up with him any longer."
taehyung would see the fragile side of his baby sister start to show. he knew her better than anyone else and he could tell how upset she was from the shaking of her voice and the fidgeting of her hands. he'd silently step forward and pull her into a hug. mina sighed, melting into the gentle touch of her brother. "we can stop by your apartment later today, okay? get your stupid cat and whatever else you need."
she looked up at him, ready to scold him for talking down on her pet like that, but she was met with a playful smile. it that made her break into a small smile too. "thank you oppa~" she teased, knowing the word made him cringe.
"ew, shut up!" he'd playfully push her away and tousle her hair. "go back to sleep, kid."
mina rolled her eyes and stepped around him, slipping past him and towards the entryway of the kitchen/living room. "goodnight."
"night," he called back. "oh hey, by the way; the boys and i need to go to the gym to train for a few hours. we all have fights coming up this week. you're welcome to come, then we can go to your place after."
"sure," she replied. "i'll go with you. night."
***
taehyung parked his sleek black car in the lot of the gym. suddenly feeling a bit nervous upon seeing his friends again, mina's fingers fidgeted in her lap. "you okay?" taehyung would ask. he reached into the backseat and grabbed his gym bag. she nodded, watching him sling the bag on his shoulder and climb out.
"come on then."
mina got out too, following closely behind him like a lost puppy. taehyung pushed open one of the glass doors that led inside, giving a small wave of his hand at the person at the front desk. "hey," he greeted. the person greeted back, smiling as the pair walked by towards the practice room the boys had reserved for an hour or so.
the guys were already in there; mina subconsciously hiding behind taehyung more as she felt self-conscious under their curious gazes.
"guess we can have a proper meeting this time since last night was a bit out of the blue," taehyung stepped to the side, nudging his sister into the spotlight. "this is my baby sister, mina. mina that's jungkook, jimin and hoseok."
"hi..." mina muttered.
"hey mina," hoseok smiled warmly at her. "nice to meet you."
she smiled back, shifting her eyes to the tatted, dark haired boy beside him. he was handsome; with big brown eyes and a sharp jawline. he had full sleeves of tattoos, with a few sprawled across his hands. mina couldn't help but look at them, simply curious.
"hey, beautiful," the tatted man started to say. jimin reached over and slapped him on the leg.
"hey," taehyung warned. "you're not going to whore over my sister, jeon. watch it."
"yeah, kook, leave her alone," jimin chimed in. "you're creeping her out."
mina sheepishly retired to the sidelines of the practice room and took a seat against the wall. she pulled her phone out for a distraction, feeling embarrased now. the boys started getting ready, discussing their upcoming opponents. taehyung and jungkook headed for the punching bags while the other two men lifted weights together.
mina could feel it; every few seconds jungkook's eyes would find their way on her. little did she know, he found her to be genuinely beautiful. she pretended to ignore his gaze though, and played on her phone.
after about forty minutes passed the boys settled for a five minute break. taehyung went to the bathroom while the remaining group went and filled up their water bottles in the lobby of the gym. mina was stood to the side, waiting for her turn at the water station when she happened to look up through the glass windows and watch as a familiar car pulled up into one of the front spots.
her heart stopped for a moment as all the color drained from her face. hoseok glanced towards her and noticed her strange behavior, "you okay mina?" he looked out the window too, searching for whatever had made her react like that.
she nodded, awkwardly clearing her throat. "um, e-excuse me for a moment." she turned and dashed out into the parking lot.
"what are you doing here?!" she cried once outside, watching her boyfriend climb out of his beat up car.
"what the fuck are you doing here?" he snipped back, throwing his arms out to emphasize his frustration. "i've been calling and texting you since you left yesterday. why the fuck are you ignoring me?"
"why would i want to talk to you?" she challenged. "did you forget how you treated me yesterday? i needed some space."
he stormed up to her and grabbed her by the wrist, squeezing her skin so tight she could feel another bruise forming. "don't get smart with me," he yanked her forward. "you're coming home. now," hyunjin demanded, lowering his voice to show he really meant it.
"get the fuck off of me," mina pulled back. she planted her feet into the cement, using all her strength to stay put. "i'm not some little ragdoll you can pull around, hyunjin-"
rage settled over his face and he reached his hand up, bracing himself to hit her across the face. "don't argue with me you bitch-"
"is there an issue?"
mina and hyunjin froze, the two casting their glances sideways to find a tall, tatted man standing beside mina. it was jungkook, and he had his head tilted to the side as he stared back at hyunjin with an inquisitive look.
"can i fucking help you?" hyunjin hissed, giving one last tug that nearly knocked mina over completely. she stumbled and fell into him, wincing in pain as he held her there next to him. "who the fuck are you anyway?"
"no, who the fuck are you to be pulling her around like that?" jungkook didn't back down; in fact he stepped closer and zoned in on the man. hyunjin visibly stepped back a bit, shrinking back like a coward. "i'd suggest you get the fuck off her before we have to take this any further."
"jungkook-" mina murmured, looking down at the ground in shame. "don't-"
"who the fuck is this mina?" hyunjin suddenly asked, yanking her arm again to get her attention. a deep lump settled in mina's throat as she felt tears start to gather in her eyes. "huh?"
mina gulped, willing herself to breathe around the lump in her throat. she fucking hated when he yelled at her like that; it made her feel like a small, helpless child. the embarrassment started to kick in too, as she became another burden for everyone to take care of. "taehyung's friend." she murmured.
"unbelievable," hyunjin let her go as he threw his hands in the air again; the immature man huffing and puffing. "what is up with you? can't even handle a little disagreement? gotta go running to your brot-"
"it was more than a disagreement, hyunjin. you took it too far." mina said, reaching a trembling hand up to hurriedly wipe the tear that had start to sneak down her cheek.
"you know what mina, i don't have time for you and your bullshit. i'm going to be late for work," hyunjin's hands came slamming down at his sides. it made mina flinch. "i'll see you tonight."
and with that he turned, walked back to his car and got in. he instantly drove off, leaving the pair behind on the sidewalk.
"i'm sorry," mina breathed out a sigh of relief she had been holding in for a long while now. she clutched her throbbing temple. "fuck. i'm so sorry."
jungkook didn't say much as his eyes focused on her raised arm, noticing the browning bruise hyunjin had left behind. "i..."
"don't tell tae about this, please," mina pleaded. "i'm trying to break things off with him."
and with that she stepped around him and went inside, heading straight for the bathroom with tears still brimming in her eyes. a moment later jimin came to the entrance of the gym. "jungkook?" jimin called from the door, looking at the youngest in bewilderment. "what happened?"
jungkook shook his head, long black hair falling over his eyes. he had really witnessed only a fraction of the abuse mina had secretly been putting up with for awhile now. a heavy feeling settled over his chest; genuine remorse and an overall sorriness towards what he had seen. god, it made him furious to see a man lay his hands on a woman like that. if mina hadn't of been there jungkook would've knocked the prick out.
he turned and looked at jimin. there was worry written over the older's face. for the first time in a long time, jungkook was genuinely speechless. "i... i don't know."

"who's that?" jungkook nodded his head towards the girl standing at the entranceway to the living room. she held an overnight bag close to her chest and had the expression of a deer caught in the headlights as the boys she had never seen before stared back at her. she was pretty, jungkook thought; her naturally-beautiful features were highlighted by the natural makeup on her face. she had a cute nose that rounded at the tip and big, curious brown eyes, which seemed to lock onto jungkook the same way he was doing to her.
taehyung looked over his shoulder and immediately let out a sigh upon seeing his baby sister. he turned back to the boys, suddenly feeling protective as he met jungkook's intense gaze. "mind your business, jeon."
turning back to the much shorter girl beside him, taehyung put his hands on her shoulders and spun her around, gently steering her away from the scene. "what? taehyung can't i stay," she whined. the small girl planted her feet on the floor, but her sock-clad feet slid against the hardwood as taehyung easily overpowered her and pushed her back towards the front door. the girl stepped to the side and tried to pull away, suddenly hissing in pain when taehyung grabbed ahold of her arm.
the older brother, careful now after his sister's expression, let go of her arm. glancing down, he found a deep purple bruise where his fingers had just been. "shit, what happened to you?"
"i fell," she simply said. "anyways, can i stay please?"
taehyung scoffed. "well maybe you should start warning me instead of just inviting yourself over, mina"
"let her stay," jungkook would chime in, a smug smirk turning the corners of his lips upwards.
taehyung looked over his shoulder, shooting a nasty look at his friend. "fuck off jungkook."
"please just let me stay," the girl looked up at her older brother and gave him her saddest, most pathetic puppy eyes she could muster. "i'll leave you and your friends alone."
"you and hyunjin fighting?" taehyung would ask.
she rolled her eyes, letting out an exasperated sigh. "something like that..."
"fine" taehyung huffed. "come on."
***
taehyung led his baby sister to the guest bedroom and let her go in. "you can sleep here."
she thanked him, slipping by to set her overnight bag down on the bed.
"did you eat dinner?" he would ask. sheepishly, she'd shake her head no. "we have some leftover pizza. better go get some before one of the boys gets to it."
"okay," she would stand there for a moment, fidgeting with her fingers. "i'm sorry."
"no, mina, it's okay," taehyung would say, suddenly feeling guilty for how he had acted. "you can stay here as long as you need to."
"i... i might need to stay for another day or two..." she would tell him, adverting her eyes to the carpet. mina suddenly felt insecure and anxious under her brother's curious gaze.
"sure, that's fine," taehyung shrugged. "i'm not doing much tomorrow so doesn't matter to me."
when mina didn't say anything else, he'd continue. "i'm gonna go back out to the living. get comfy if you'd like; don't forget about the pizza."
mina nodded, glancing up through her long dark eyelashes to watch her brother turn and disappear down the hallway.
