It’s enough to prompt a lazy grin, one he should firmly recognise, one he’s seen many times before ; one he saw for the first day on the face of a girl long lost in darkness, beneath filth and grime only a year in salt mines of hell could offer, one that promises whatever depth of emotion beneath is one he won’t reach.

One that reminds him the girl he used to know, used to love, is not quite here anymore – replaced by something she’s always been beneath, but never properly shown him. Their time together long passed and though she remembers it well, has forgiven him the hurt and anger, can see something not dissimilar to distrust when he watches her. Enough to flare her own guard now, Aelin hiding beneath Celaena’s mask, every wall and guard built back after the time he’d spent to tear them down. He doesn’t know her, he’s made that clear, doesn’t trust her, and she can’t quite blame him – but can’t find it in her to back down and let him back in.

Because if she does, if he rejects her still ( him, who had made her smile when she hadn’t quite remembered how, him, who had opened a long since broken hear to heal ), she’s not quite sure how she might handle that.

okay, right off the bat, if tamlin had done the whole bubble trap thing to feyre, the fandom would have had issues. i could stop here.

alas, i will not.

this whole plot point is particularly worrying for f3ysand because of how important physical freedom and autonomy is to feyre. i mean, it’s a massive part of her character arc/story!!

it’s like rowan calling aelin a monster after she confides in him about chaol saying the same thing! (i’m not a chaol hater don’t worry xxx)

acosf displays multiple violations to feyre’s very valid boundary by rhys4nd himself. (shield and lying about the baby.)

and for those who say the bubble was not limiting her freedom…

feyre says herself on page 129,

look, i don’t even like the girl that much. BUT, feyre did not enjoy being trapped inside. she was actively trying to get out, but rhys4nd was HAPPY to keep her in it.

In honor of me finally reading Kingdom of Ash, here’s what I think the core group of characters sexuality meters are:

Aelin: 60% attracted to masculine men, 30% to herself, and 10% to women that act like herself

Rowan: 100% straight (sadly, but like he had a whole cadre of beautiful men and never once thought about it? SMH) but also 100% approves of everyone’s sexualities. You could say you are attracted to large ships and he’d be like okay, good for you!

Dorian: 40% attractive to any person with a pulse, 60% attracted to people that can kill him

Manon: 90% attracted to herself, 10% to Dorian but like reluctantly

Chaol: 90% straight, 10% Dorian

Yrene: 95% straight, 5% Aelin

Aedion: 100% poly

Lysandra: 50% to Aedion and 50% to Wesley but never had felt anything towards anyone besides that

Lorcan: 100% Elide (anything he felt for Maeve was actually the feeling of desperation disguised as attraction)

Elide: 100% the most toxic ass people (She says she can change them and she’s right actually)

Let's look at why SJM couple's have ended:

CelaenaxDorian - I put Celaena instead of Aelin cause at this time, we know that Celeana had no plans to restore her kingdom and reveal herself as Aelin. Celaena decided that she wanted to free to travel the world and make her own choices instead of being stuck as Dorian's queen with limits. Internal factor, her choice.

CelaenaxChaol - Celaena could not fully forgive/trust Chaol after he hid the plot against Nehemia from her that contributed in her death. Internal factor, her choice.

DorianxSorcha - Sorcha sans head. Death.

TamlinxFeyre - Tamlin's abuse and lack of ability to give Feyre freedom contributed to the break down of their relationship. Internal factor, her choice.

NesrynxChaol - Deteriorated from Chaol pushing her away due to his disability and both falling in love with different people. The split is pretty mutual but the one who actually ends it is Nesryn. Internal, her choice.

BrycexConnor - Connor in pieces. Death.

What didn't happen in any of these couples to end their relationship? Nobody told them they couldn't be together ie an external factor. Nothing kept these couples apart. They were allowed to be together and explore a relationship that ultimately ended due to themselves as people. This let them move on to new relationships without baggage and a big what if hanging over their heads and new relationship. None of these couples had something-- be it a force, a spell, an order keeping them away from each other that didn't allow them to act on their feelings.

Azriel and Elain operate in the same circle. They have to be around each other at some point no matter if they try to avoid each other. There's no way it would never be discussed or brought up again. There's also no way narratively that Elain could move on without knowing that the choice had been made for her via Rhysand. It's counter to her arc and it would be so unsatisfying and from a story telling point would leave the door wide open for what if Rhysand didn't stop them that night? What if Elain found out about Rhysand's order? What if Azriel decided not to obey? Too many questions and what ifs to carry into a new romance for it to be believable and satisfying imo and hang over the couple like a proverbial axe waiting to drop.

It's why no matter who people ship Azriel with, you know the Mor thing has to be addressed. And now it's the same for Elain.

So in a potential Gwynriel book you would have Az dealing with the Mor situation, then dealing with the Elain situation, then FINALLY having a romance with Gwyn? That's too much for one book for it to be believable or romantic.

Dealing with the fallout of romantic entanglement while building the blocks for another? Okay but dealing with the fallout of TWO romantic entanglements? Makes your MC seem flakey and is not what you want to read in a romance heavy series/book that is stated to focus on one couple per book with a HEA.

It should also be noted in books that have romance for women by a woman that all relationships ending in not death, was the woman's choice.

Why I’m currently mad at Chaol:

… buckle up folks; these ever-changing opinions (started with the Rowan rollercoaster) & are now about to go off the roads (much like Queen of Shadows seems to be preparing me for)…

Honestly, I think I am angrier with him than I was with Rowan. Maybe cause I’m slightly bitter because I did love him (maybe I still do… we shall see) but that came first, so there was a character more than the initial arguments — but even more so because she loved him, and he did love her; it makes it worse — Rowan at least didn’t know her; yes, it made him seem more unjust in his cruelty & anger, it was clearly far more assumption based & projection, but despite how well he managed to know her (& use it to hit where it hurt) he didn’t really know her (not yet, not in the same way). Meanwhile, Chaol KNOWS her & she trusted him; more than almost anyone or “entrusted” (maybe as the better term); giving him her identity after 10 years TEN YEARS on the run she told him.

And when he said those words it was pointed to the fact of knowing her, hurtful in a way only he could be; knowing not only her, but her past, her trauma, her grief, and saying all of it to spite those things; to hurt her. I at least don’t think Rowan wanted to hurt her; he was willing to, he was aware of the bruises he left but with the end goal was not suffering, he wanted to help. Chaol was angry over some petty claim to a broken heart, angry at himself & unable to admit it, angry at her for so many held tallies & mistakes against her, he leaves so much unforgiven & carries such a grudge. He is unwilling to admit to the parts he plays & willing to hurt her for the sake of his anger, regardless of the price; one she will be paying instead. The way he blatantly disregards her; her name, her ideas, her love, her family, her grief, her fear, her… everything; the good she did, the bad he did, what parts they both played. It’s not acceptable.

Not After everything… perhaps one could say it’s because of everything… but it’s just unacceptable. And though there is no “just” nor excuse in trauma; it’s not a competition; he, however, has no reason within it. I’m sorry, but your broken heart is not the same as hers, your year is not the same, you know nothing of duty & horror & guilt & grief; of monsters, & love, & tragedy. And though he has kept his hands mostly clean, he has been privileged; that’s not to say she hasn’t chosen wrongly, she has decided to bloody her hands in wrong ways time & time again. There is no changing that, but she also has not had many choices in her life & the ones she had she made right. She tried to spare you of so much even after & in her own fury over Nehemia… and you just threw her to the wolves like that; just. like. that.

All of this; intent, uneven, ignorant, cruel, small mindedness… it’s shifted into something more menacing; & dare I say tinged with misogyny? His system of; she is erratic, emotional, hysterical, uncontrollable, manipulative, selfish, unpredictable, “monster” thought process of a “tyrant queen”… Not to mention the further concerning growing edge of prejudice; his love & his fear for his friends, his lack of knowledge & blissful ignorance of privilege, has all instead shifted into a “holier than thou” it’s all of them thought process. A belief system built on eliminating danger, on singular right without wrong; dangerously capable justifications & a start to ruin; not just for her, or him, but the world.

1. Aelin: the sweetest breakfast cereal you can find with a chocolate hazelnut shake on the side

2. Rowan: definitely an avocado sandwich or something that's very very low effort, maybe a boiled egg?(He likes meat on a stick, I don't expect much pickiness from him but he probably prefers healthy stuff, someone has to balance Aelin)

3. Aedion and Fenrys: Fruit Loops, they like being a kid(they still are, they won't agree tho)

4. Lysandra and Dorian: Definitely Pancakes, something tasty that doesn't take too much effort

5. Elide: a proper English breakfast spread, my girl has standards

Me: Why do you ship Elain and Azriel?

E/riel: Well for starters, he was the only one to go save Elain when she was in hybern.

Me: First of all, Cassian offered first. Second of all Feyre was also there and saved her (what Elain said)

E/riel: Ok but still it was romantic

Me: But it was not. Because her sister ALSO saved her :) Feyre went to UTM and got tortured,SAed,killed people and died all for Tamlin anyhow...

E/riel: Well Madja said a mate knows whats wrong with their own mate and Az figured out that Elain was a seer.

Me: Elain being a Seer was not what was wrong with her. Also Rhysand figured out Nestas power.

E/riel: Az gave Elain truthteller when he had given it to no one ever.

Me: Only because Mor begged him with tears in her eyes to stay back. Cassian offered her first (again) and then Az offered her TT bc he would not have to use it. Not to mention, Elain only took it when Feyre assured her she would not have to use it. She gave it back without a glance

E/riel: Well Feyre imagined Elain and Az as ´´Death and his lovely fawn´´

Me: Okay. Well did you also catch when she said TT is the only connection between them? Not to mention something admirable about Elain is that she is always full of light. What literally takes away Light? Darkness=Azriel. Not to mention, Azriel is death and his home sucks the life from Elain. Not that Feyres aesthetic painting mind matters anything to me :)

Me: What about the fact when he travelled all around to find somebody on a quest so dangerous and the only confirmation he got was from Elain?

Me: Considering Elains devotion to Graysen, there is a high chance of her wearing that color for Graysen because his crest is cobalt blue. Even if its not true, Lucien wears a coat that´s fawn brown (exact same shade of Elains eyes)

E/riel: A smile and blush bloomed on Azriel in regards to Elain.

Me: Dont care. Thats just an action. Although since you say that, did you know that a smile bloomed on Elains face after her father died (who she loved dearly) in regards to Lucien?

Me: he was thinking of his mother being a slave. Thats what the situation of eating when Elain was tending to everyone reminded him of. How his mother was treated. Its not romantic but it is a very sad thing to think about.

E/riel: Azriel loves Elain. He only has not thought about a future with her because he does not allow himself to!

Me: Honestly i don´t mind that you think that! Although that is not canon. Sleeping with Elain is the only thoughts he PLEASURED himself to. Not allowed himself as some say. Me: There is so many more reasons that we could come up with than what meets the eye. Have you considered it was because she didnt know what to do. Or she saw the look on Lucien ´ s face and shrank because she did not intentionally cause it and felt bad? Or maybe she FELT Luciens pain and shared it because of the bond? So much possibilities to think of especially considering we have limited text and not the actual characters POV. Also i wonder how far she will shrink when she finds out about Az and Rhysands conversation in the bonus chapter. Or maybe she heard it already?

E/riel: Azriel actually gets Elain.

Me: The way he literally does not though! When Elain begs the IC not to kill graysen Az says its best for him to be killed in acosf. When Elain says nesta cant make choices for her and then Az says she should not be exposed to the innate darkness even though later we figure out Elain is willing? When Elain says she is not a child to be fought over and than Az says he will defeat Lucien in a blood duel with her?

E/riel: Scrying is dangerous! Of course Azriel did not want her too.

Me: Yet, he said ´´Nesta really should do scrying´´ but not Elain because he underestimates her. Which is the ONLY thing SJM provides to what Az could have been doing.

E/riel: Azriel listened to Elains laugh probably because he loves the sound!

Me: Maybe its because Elain never ever laughs like that around him or the ic He was literally monitoring them which means to keep tabs on someone which directly relates to his fricking job 😂. So many words to choose from and SJM chose monitoring.

E/riel: Az gave Elain a rose necklace.

Me: Ok and? Elain gave it back. She does not want that shit. He gave it to another person. It felt wrong to clasp it around Elains neck but it sparked something in his chest and made him smile for Gwyn.

E/riel: Lucien only sees Elain for his mate but Azriel sees her for her.

Me: Nope. His reason for wanting to kiss Elain was simply ´��What fi the cauldron was wrong´´ and refers to Elain as the 3rd. She is literally a theory or more so a possibility to him. One he has not thought through in the slightest. Also, Lucien was going crazy in hybern in regards to Elain before he knew of their bond AND Elain has not accepted the bond yet he still cares for her.

E/riel: Elain called Azriels scars beautiful.

Me: first of all, its a 50% chance she called his scars beautiful. Feyre said she was not sure which one she was complimenting, the scars, or the big glowing cobalt siphon atop his hand. Second of all, even if it was 100% fact that she said his scars specifically was beautiful, it seems he does not believe it at all. He tries to not to look at his hands. He does not want to taint her with his presence or touch her beautiful skin with his scars.

E/riel: His shadows vanish around Elain and lightens. They also do that around mor who he was in love with for 500 years. Also his shadows are like snakes ready to strike in regards to Elain.

Me: Shadows lighting and vanishing are the same thing. Light takes away darkness as darkness takes away light (another reason why they are horrible together) His shadows are losing its darkness around Elain and Mor. Mor was wrong for him. The amount of pain it caused him to be in Love with her? Want that to continue with Elain and Az? Azriel does not need his darkness to be hidden. He needs it to be embraced *insert Gwyn*

E/riel: SJM would never pass on a good angsty trope like forbidden love!

Me: firstly, the only thing forbidding e/riel is Elain herself. If she rejects the bond, she can be with Az all she wants and NO ONE has a say on that. Not Rhysand. Not feyre. Not cassian. Not Lucien himself. Although she hasnt after 2 years. There is an answer to why. Its not like Elain knows she has to wait until her own book to reject it. Second of all, Forbidden love is the absolute WORST trope to give BOTH of them. For Elain, she has always hid in the shadows of her sisters in the series and the fandom. You really think Elain Archeron always full of light wants to hide in the darkness and play out Azriel´s fantasies? As for Azriel, he has been secretly silently in PAIN loving Mor for 500 years. So you want him to go through it again with Elain? No. He wants the bond nessian and feysand have. The love they share. The joy of being with your equal. The connection of a mating bond. Being proud to showcase it to the world. Forbidden love would just tear them apart.

E/riel: SJM does not write about virgin romances! Plus Gwyn is a virgin!

Me: Yes she can. Gwyn already lost her virginity against her will so biologically she is not going through the bleeding and the actual losing her physical virginity. Although it is a fact she has never slept with someone. The scene where Cassian *ahem* first enters nesta is very descriptive and SJM describes the pain of Cassian entering her......So yes she can for sure write about Gwyn having sex. This is also goes against the statement that Gwyn cant have sex because of her trauma. False. She is interested in romance books and asks Nesta if the sex was good. I think Gwyn would enjoy sex with someone she trusts in and out.

okay so riddle me this:

so by the ACTUAL synopsis of the damn book, its chaol, nesryn, and yrene's book. as in chaol is only 1/3 of "chaol's book" which actually means ToD is lesser of a chaol book than say SF was cassian's🤭

and notice how it doesn't say "next instalment" or "standalone"? and it rather says "parallel novel"? so technically speaking it isn't even chaol's book but rather Chaol, Nesryn, and Yrene's extended director's cut of Empire of Storms.

Now, I understand that some people in the fandom just want another Nesta book or an azriel-centric book cause y'all hate a certain someone but guys, the next book is going to be elain's and any character in that book will only be relevant in relation to her<3

Okay...I have been writing out this video I'm planning on making and I've been looking up quotes in TOD to compare with Lucien and Elain and aghhhhhhhh!!!

The letter Aelin gave Yrene said "The world needs more healers", and that letter and the gift she gave her led her to Chaol, essentially.

For wherever you go--and then some. The world needs more healers. There, in her handwriting... Chaol looked up at last, blinking away tears as he scanned his wife's face. Every beautiful line, those golden eyes. A gift.

And Elain said the world needs more gardens.

"I would like to build a garden," she declared. "After all of this...I think the world needs more gardens."

And I totally think that will lead her to Lucien, given all of the plots surrounding them, the struggles they have that's similar to Chaol and Yrene...
