🌙 Celaena
I’ve started reading Throne of Glass and have troubles with imagining all of the characters (basically they are all beautiful, Mari, deal with it) so here the first take on Celaena.
Not sure that I’ll be coloring this one so sketch version for now.

Celaena Sardothien + Arya Stark
I couple of days ago I made a post about how Manon Blackbeak (one of the most beloved female characters from Throne of Glass series) is similar to Visenya Targaryen with relations to Targaryens in general.
Today I wanted to talk about Celaena Sardothien/Aelin Ashryver Galathynius. As we know, Throne of Glass is one of the most beloved YA fantasy series and for some people most influencial. For many, Throne of Glass was that one series that got them into reading again.
Fans praise Sarah, not only for her characters, but also for her writing. While searching through Tumblr we can find long post made by antis, proving that Sarah J Maas's writing is at times based of taking quotes from other pieces of media. „You could rattle stars”, „to whatever end” are only some of them. There's one quote that is never mentioned, a quote loved by tog fans tied to Celaena Sardothien/Aelin Ashryver Galathynius.
One of Celaena/Aelin's most infamous quotes is:
„My name is Celaena Sardothien/Aelin Ashryver Galathynius and I will not be afraid.”
The thing is the same quote appears in Chapter 6 of George RR Martin's A Feast for Crows (October 17, 2005, with a United States edition following on November 8, 2005) in relation to Arya Stark:
“Valar dohaeris." He pushed off with his oar and drifted back off into the deeper water. Arya watched him row back the way they'd come, until he vanished in the shadows of the bridge. As the swish of oars faded, she could almost hear the beating of her heart. Suddenly she was somewhere else . . . back in Harrenhal with Gendry, maybe, or with the Hound in the woods along the Trident. Salty is a stupid child, she told herself. I am a wolf, and will not be afraid. She patted Needle's hilt for luck and plunged into the shadows, taking the steps two at a time so no one could ever say she'd been afraid.”

I’m prepared and yet not. Ready to get ripped to shreds. Much like in real life, SJM reminds me that you should never trust a man. They either hurt you or die and there is no inbetween.

***** MINOR TOG SPOILERS *****
So part of this ToG series re-read is being able to pick up on things that I never noticed before / didn’t realise the ironicness of a situation or the foreshadowing because I didn’t know the outcome before. When i tell you there is too much foreshadowing to mention everything I mean there is. so. much. foreshadowing. and. hints. EVERYWHERE. and they aren’t even spoiler foreshadowing or hints, they are just small things like subtly hinting at Celaena’s heritage both book 1 & 2 or the foreshadowing of Kaltain’s death a book beforehand, so on, so forth.
One that I’ve just read and hadn’t put together even after the few re-reads i’ve done, is after Nehemia has died and Celaena has been placed in the dungeon. Chaol and Dorian are having a moment on the servants steps when Chaol is telling Dorian about the events leading up to Nehemia’s death, specifically when Chaol doesn’t understand how Celaena could run faster than a horse and before Celaena goes to the warehouse she describes her ‘killing calm’ and that even Arobynn didn’t realise how calm she could get when she went over the edge.
Tumblr media
My theory is that when she slips into the ultra ‘killing calm’ (not just her regular killing calm), she somehow unlocks part of her Fae heritage and while the dampen on magic means she can’t fully shift, somehow a little bit of it seeps out and makes her vision better, her breath more stable, legs faster and stronger - basically everything she would get from the shift but on a smaller but still noticeable scale that allows her to run faster than a horse.
Side note - don’t get me wrong she is still strong, fast and more than capable of killing without it (i mean she’s a highly trained assassin for gods sake) but it’s just enhances her

The Solitude of Fireheart
A young princess
A dying land
The hilt is gripped
Between her hands
The demons race
They shred the souls
They feed on fear
Of those they own
Keys of power
Spread far and wide
To be united
To stop a tide
Rush of evil
Current of Death
A true calling
A final breath
The blade is raised
The Earth stands still
The Heir of Fire
Must live to kill.
Past of darkness
Horrors untold
Only she can save them
A Queen alone.

Does anyone else sometimes think about Ben from tab, like, imagine him helping Celaena through her first period, or comforting her after the first time she killed someone, or him protecting her from Arobynn as much as he could, or him teaching her how to throw a punch the first time they train, or him finding out about Sam’s crush on her and giving him the dad talk but then shipping them hard after that. I just really want some more backstory about him because he was obviously really important to Celaena, and he obviously cared a lot about her.
