ok i'm back. so. thomas toontown is canonically aroace. needless to say thomas has been an incredibly important character to me this year. i have written long paragraphs about why the way this character is written meant a lot to me and it was overall very very well handled, even if they never outright stated that he was aspec. i have talked about the fact that they are an incredibly good example on how to write an aromantic character, make their aromanticism an important part of their character, and not just a fun fact you read on twitter. thomas toontown is VERY very dear to me, i have joked that they are the character of the year for me. I made a very long comic about how aspec they are and it's some of my best work, i put a lot of care in that one.

thomas has been a very important character for me, but a tiny tiny part of myself had that worry most aspec people have... 'what if this character is not aspec'. what if the writers never intended for them to be aspec. what if they give them a love interest. what if none of this means anything. Another part of myself also thought 'what if they ARE aspec... but they never really ever confirm it' which is complicated, cause like i said i thought he has always been a very well written aspec character even if it was never confirmed. but the thing is... i do want characters to say that they are aspec. i like reading between lines for a while, but at some point i want it to be obvious. we get other lgbt+ characters and most of the time they make those very obvious, hell, in toontown they have confirmed characters that are gay and trans but until now... that wasn't the case with the aspec character. it was just implied. a part of me worried toontown would make what many franchises do and avoid to put any focus on the aspec character, never really confirming it

so really, you have no idea how huge today's announcement was. that thomas toontown himself is actually canonically aroace. i know it might just been obvious to most people and this doesn't seem like a big deal. but you have no idea how big this is for me. not only cause i love toontown and i love thomas and i have been talking about this 'headcanon' for a while... I have also never really had the experience of having a character be implied to be aspec and then confirmed to be aspec. Aspec characters exist, obviously oh my god, i have enjoyed plenty of aspec stories that have changed my life, but those times i KNEW i was getting an aspec story, i KNEW i was getting aspec characters. I have never got into a series with multiple characters and saw one that I really really believed in my heart that they COULD be aspec... and for the first time, for that to actually be confirmed. this is HUGE for me. i'm not lying when i said i had tears in my eyes, i was hysterical, because a funny guy in the funny toons game was confirmed to be aspec and for that to actually and genuinely mean something. because this is not a twitter aroace fun fact, this is a confirmation of years of a really well written aroace character. we won today, for once aspecs won
