ok but i saw an ask on your feed talking about pretty boy jason and i agree hardcore! i'm such sucker for pretty boy jason and you can pry it from my cold dead hands. while i think he has some facial scarring, i don't think it would be any more than any of the other bats? he wears a helmet for fuck's sake, so. i always hate when people depict jason as ugly with heavy scarring on his face and the rest of the bats as flawless (as if scarring makes someone ugly).
like do people forget that dick and jason canonically look really similar?? and if dick is considered handsome, then logically jason must also be?? i love the idea of jason taking off his helmet and people being so thrown at how fucking pretty he is. ugh.
my theory (i may be thinking about it too much), but i feel like people depict jason as uglier or more scarred than the rest of the bats because they feel like his morals are a more grey area. there are studies that show people associate morality with physical appearance and because jason has questionable morals, people write him as less attractive than the other bats. the bats are righteous with good morals = beautiful people, whereas jason kills to protect others = must be ugly.
i want to say somehow classism links into all this as well, but i'm probably being too cynical and reading too much into it. although, the way jason is written as a stupid brute sometimes has me suspecting classism hm.
omg yes to everything
i'm all for jason having scars, i love it, but i also think he would have less facial scars than the other bats. jason most definitely looks extremely young. he's barely out of his teen years and you're telling me he looks like almost 40 year old bruce wayne? even him looking older than dick is a stretch. they have a good 6 years between them.
i don't care if jason's ugly or pretty but i mean it's just not possible to be unattractive if he was physically similar to dick in his robin days. coming back to life doesn't erase what jason used to look like-- he doesn't have a new face. if anything, his face would look even younger/"prettier" (since people equate beauty with next to no facial flaws) because of the lazarus pit removing any scarring he had from both his childhood and robin days (this is considered during the period he was back in gotham).
you're definitely right about the simply put "bad people=ugly" theory. it really just depends on the artist in charge but it's still questionable when jason is drawn as this harsh, extremely masculine brute in comparison to the other bats. i love his character design, i love that he's rlly muscular and scary! but i also like considering why he's drawn like this and why dick/bruce are the same but are given more grace.
#i wouldn't say classism is a reach in this case because with jason you never know#people at dc seem to love taking their frustrations out on jason from his character to his storylines#also i swear i'm getting through my asks guys 🙂↕️#jason todd#red hood#asks!!-

Me trying to find a SINGLE reason for Norata to be white (unsuccessfully)
hello folks
it’s me your dude corry. I couldn’t justify Norata being white so here I am fixing GF plot for yall again.
Wish they show us a bit more brothers dynamic in the series, yh I understand they wanted to keep it dramatic between Norata and Aarch, but how can I believe that they are real siblings when they don’t act like siblings? (Imma having a brother myself and I swear some of our conversations looks more like a sitcom scene yet more dramatic)
I’d love to see more references/hints to their shared past, just verbal ones like “You maniac acting like this because mom always loved you more” and also in that way I think we could see more layers in their story. For example Norata could’ve mentioned that their parents (Rokkets grandparents) died and Aarch didn’t even appeared to their funeral and Aarch be like “Hey, I sent the money and the flowers” and Norata just cracks at some point and yell at him like “I DIDN’T NEED MONEY OR FLOWERS” which makes their conflict even more spicy. Layers, my fellows, I need more layers…
Have you ever thought that 15 years is actually not that much? I never did when I was a kid, so when I saw older Aarch with fully white hair in my childhood I thought: an yea OK. But now I’m like WAIT WHAT
Let’s do a bit of a math. Aarch, Norata and Artegor were in their 20s before GG (Great Glaciation) and assuming that average age of GF players is very young (cause you get into football in a very young age like snow kids in their 15s which is ridiculous, but somehow in that universe everyone is OK with that, so I presume it’s a common thing). So they all were in their early 20’s during flashbacks… +15 years on the top equals that you WILL NEVER turn fully grey/white, because you will be 40 y.o top. Also we see how Artegor, Addim, Tia’s parents, Maya and lot’s of other people of his age didn’t get a singular grey hair. Smells like a plot hole for me. Or Aarch dyeing his hair, which is more likely. And It’s brings us to the next great layer of character building…
Aarch is one of the most random human in the world of GF, who tries to pretend that he can organize.
And he’s certainly not a wise old man as they were trying to sell it to us. He’s more like Satoru Gojo type of a coach, who is making a whole bunch of a questionable decisions based on his random ideas. Even their major saying with Clamp gives us “with your ideas and my inventions…” I mean c’mon he was literally sleeping while driving the shuttle in the opening scene, so tell me if that’s wise. Then randomly saves M-Ice just because, so he can use him later to get more people for his sick plan. And don’t get me wrong, I mean thats kinda slay action💅✨, intelligence is sexy, but I’d love to see more of that side of him LIKE MAN BE RANDOM AND ENJOY THAT BRO
I could continue this, but I’ll save all my thoughts on that family for later. Now enjoy my sketches (Rokket is a big mood) let me know what if you have any thoughts on that and I’ll speak to you in the next post✨

It's bitching hour I see, don't mind if I join! A lot of the TF2 fandom (mostly just Tumblr/Twitter parts of it) seem to be huge pussies about shipping. There has been talk about straight Pauling ships already and this falls under it too. TF2 fans on here seem to just fear being slightly unconventional with ships, no age gap more than 5 years or so, only the three most popular ships or else eat dirt, no straight Pauling ships, what do you mean bi people exist? It's stupid. You like a ship that isn't fucking red Octoberfest? Starve! Nobody will write or draw anything for this pair for months! Like a ship that's slightly controversial within the fandom like basically any pairing with an age gap, classcest, M/F Pauling ship, anything with pyro in it (also dear god this fandom treats pyro like an uwu baby that doesn't know sex when the guys a full grown pyromaniac with a job! He's mentally ill not a fucking child!! Sorry for side tangent) will get your head stuck on a pike ffs. I remember when I joined I really liked the popular/non problematic ships too but the attitudes of some people smh. TF2 side of Tumblr please get a bit more open minded with what you ship or just leave the people who ship unconventional shit alone. I know there's a line that 90% of the fandom won't cross and it's for a good reason imo (talking about incest ships here) but a relationship with an age gap of more than 10 years is not on the other side of that line, have fun and explore silly relationships with these fictional characters for once!! Let me have my toxic yaoi and toxic yuri in peace :(
Also I'm sorry about putting this long thing in your ask box, this escalated quickly
Agreed fully and also I'm gonna say something that's gonna rustle a lot of feathers–
People love SniperSpy. It's generally accepted that Spy is somewhere in his 50s to 60s, judging off Scout's age alone, and with SniperSpy he's sleeping with someone three years older than his own son.
And there is a absolutely nothing wrong with this when both parties are consenting adults. What I have an issue with is that I've seen a lot of people who ship SniperSpy then get on the arse of MedicScout shippers because Scout is "too young" for Medic.
My question is why? Why is it ok to ship Sniper, at 30, with Spy, a man at least 20 years older than him, but it's not alright to do the same with Scout, who's 27, and Medic, who's probably about 20 years older than him? Why is that? Why do you have an issue with one and not the other?
And it comes down to two things:
1. People think Scout looks too young. Which, I'm sorry, but at someone who's 5'2" and looks about 16-18 at all times (depending on whether or not I shave) despite being 23, fuck you. You do not get to decide if someone's physical appearance is "mature enough" when that person is a fucking adult. Get fucked.
2. Ableism. Scout is notoriously immature and often acts like a teenage. HE IS ALMOST THIRTY YEARS OLD. Maturity/behaviour ≠ age and the funny part is that these are the same people who tell you not to infantilise autistic people for perceived immaturity but then go on and infantilise A MAN WHO IS ALMOST THIRTY because he acts immature. Practise what you preach or get fucked.
People NEVER do this with Sniper and I'm not sure if it's because Sniper looks like he's 40 or because he acts like he's 40. But I'm inclined to think it's the latter, because people often do this with Pyro too as Pyro also often acts childlike.
So hey, if you do this, check yourself. Cuz you're probably being ableist. Ask yourself why exactly you think an almost thirty year old man can't have a romantic or sexual relationship with a man older than him when they're both mercenaries on a team of hired killers who kill people and break things FOR A LIVING. Are you normal about neurodivergent people? No, are you really?

Hot take...
I don't think that Larian is the kind of group of assholes who would say that the good ending for a character is one where their make up with their sexual abuser.
And I think the takeaway from that isn't that the other ending (which they have called the bad one) is instead the good ending.
But that the interpretation that they character was sexual abused was incorrect.
I think that means that Gale wasn't a child when he met Mystra. He was an adult; it was sometime after his study and apprenticeship at Blackstaff academy. Early and mid 20s is an adult, and he was/is normally a very confidant capable man who had a healthy relationship with his parents and is still close to his mother. He says he's never been nervous before in act 3. I don't think he would have qualified as vulnerable. He is when meet him because he is heartbroken, and his power are diminished (because he messed around with magic that ate them). His entire identify is tied to his magic, so he's absolutely f*cking lost. But that is only after the orb.
If we think Msytra met him more than five years ago, she wasn't at full power and godhood...
Astarion and Halsin are older than her...
Wyll is 24yrs old an Lae'zel is 22yrs old....who are they being paired with in fanart or fanfiction or in your own origin playthrough...
I sure see a lot of Wyll and Astarion cutie pie pairings...
If you're still reading - some math:
Year during current Game events 1492 DR.
Mystra (Midnight) was born 160 yrs ago (1332 DR)
Ascended to godhood 1358 DR @ around 26 yrs old
She Died in 1385 DR
And then was basically dead or bear-ly alive for 94-ish yrs until 1479 DR (her avatar was in a bear when Elminster found her (I am very funny))
Elminster brought her back (diminished) in 1480 DR.
[somewhere in here Gale and Mystra meet (after he had gone to Blackstaff Academy?)]
The Second Sundering ended in 1487 DR, and she has full god powers, her godly portfolio back, and the weave is quickly resorted to working order.
With that celestial dirt nap in mind. She’s 53-60ish yrs old when she meets Gale. 65ish during BG3 and she's only been a living god for 40 of those years. Has she been like 26 for 40 those years…how does ascension work?
Even including the time that she was less than fully alive, she is still younger than Astarian – 263 yrs (Idel Campiagns corrected age, he’s a least 239, became a vampire over 200 yrs) and Halsin is 350-ish yrs.
Why is it excusable to romance them as a human (or as a race with a similar lifespan) if the age difference is a problem?
If the power difference is the problem, then should non-magic users never hook up with magic users?
Ex: I don’t see swarms of people against Rose Tyler and The Doctor as a couple. She was 19 when they met, he was over 900yrs old.
Or Thor and Jane Foster in the MCU. She was about 26 when they met, he was almost 1,500 yrs old.
Both relationships have MUCH greater age differences, and each male character is a god or a bit more immortal at least. Why are those two couples ok? Why aren’t those male characters called groomers?
I think the whole thing has been a hotfix #17 issue of misunderstanding the intention and misreading what is given...

Rant i just sent to my friend:
I am so fucking insane about Riza FullmetalAlchemist like we been knew I am not normal about that woman but also I am watching the show with my dad rn and we are past the first hurtful Flashback episode, nearing the second and then the one my tattoo is from and I am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! about Riza Hawkeye I am going to kill myself over riza hawkeye I am so insane over her like ?!?!?!
Like she's this kid this tiny kid and her father is an accomplished alchemist and he takes on an apprentice who's a few years older than her and kind of cute also they're both from messed up home situations
And then he leaves and her father gets sick but he finishes his research finally and it is so dangerous and it can kill millions so he TATTOOS IT ON HER BACK and he gives the power to pass it on to this SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL who is all alone in the world
And then the boy comes back and he has just joined the military and he is so idealistic about it he genuinely believes he's doing good and SHE IS SEVENTEEN AND ALL ALONE IN THE WORLD so she GIVES HIM HER FATHER'S RESEARCH and then he gets ordered to do a Genocide and he does it. Roy Mustang burns god knows how many people to death with the power SHE GAVE HIM. And even worse she believed him and now she's a sniper and a killer too and he will never forgive himself for this he will never forget that his idealism is what destroyed her too
So she asks him to destroy her tattoo to literally burn it off her back and he does and she promises to follow him to Hell and back if it means he will make the world a better place and he will make a system that will hold the two of them accountable and he makes her promise to shoot him should he ever deviate from that
AND THAT ALL HAPPENS TEN YEARS BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN STARTS
FOR TEN YEARS SHE LIVES IN THE CONVICTION THAT IF ROY DIES SHE WILL KILL HERSELF AND NEVER LET HER BODY BE FOUND BECAUSE HER
FATHER
BRANDED HER WITH ALCHEMICAL RESEARCH THAT HAS ALREADY KILLED GOD KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE
AND THAT'S NOT EVEN GETTING INTO THE THEMES OF FATHERHOOD THAT GO THROUGH THE ENTIRE SHOW OR THE
TWO OTHER CHILDHOOD
CHILDHOOD FRIENDS RELATIONSHIP THEIRS IS MIRRORD WITH OR THE ONE EPISODE WHERE SHE
LOADS SIX BULLETS INTO A REVOLVER
AND ONLY SHOOTS FIVE
CAUSE SHE THINKS ROY IS DEAD
40 EPISODES BEFORE HER SUICIDALITY EVER BECOMES RELEVANT AGAIN
riza hawkeye.
[3 hours later]
Ok I fell asleep but I am not done with this actually cause Roy?!?! has this whole philosophy of "If i protect the people I love and they protectect the people they love we will have a nice and compassionate society" and it is very clear to EVERYONE that at the top of the list for "people roy Mustang loves and wants to protect" is riza to the point where she gets taken hostage/almost killed over it TWICE but she herself does not see her life worthy of protection because of the things ROY DID
So when he almost dies she almost dies cause she's so distressed and he's mad at her about it and and that point the soft first time viewers think "oh she really likes her commanding officer" while I am already actively loosing it cause I know the next thing she was gonna do was either use her final bullet on herself or sacrifice herself to make sure alphonsus survives. You know. The little blonde kid who lost everything to his and his older brothers idealism and wish to bring their dead parent back. Complete coincidence in how the main characters all parallel each other.
Anyway like 40 episodes later roy is now actively loosing and she goes nuh uh and PUTS A GUN TO HIS HEAD cause he has abandoned his compassionate ideals in that moment and he goes "the fuck u gonna do after shooting me" and she goes "kill myself, cause the flame alchemy" and he IS SO SHOOK BY THAT that he immediately goes
"I can't afford to loose you."
?!?!?!?!
And calms down and realizes that he has hurt her AGAIN which is like the thing he has felt immense guilt about (next to the genocide) for ten years and they have the tenderest liddle moment during which in the manga
HE TAKES HIS GLOVES OFF TO TOUCH HER HAND
and then like 10 minutes later the villains are like "hey Mustang u like this woman right" and almost kill her and that's when my tattoo happens which I cannot stress enough is like a split second and the closest they ever get to wach other like
ALL THIS
Just happens strewn over 64 episodes while the elric brothers do their heroes quest thing. First time viewers are not even equipped to get the weight of any of it and in all that time they NEVER EVEN CALL EACH OTHER BY THEIR NAMES

In response to the ‘what does age 14 look like?’ anon…
The fact that byler look older irl is definitely a reason that means I find it easier to imagine them in sexual situations. In fact, I would say this happened naturally when I saw the way their storyline was headed in s4. It was romantic already, but when I saw the duffers included:
1. The blocking that makes it clear mike is checking out will’s ass and
2. The hose scene
… I was like ok! green to go, this is what theyre doing. This was all subconscious though, until I came on Tumblr and actually started dissecting my viewing experience.
I think the main issue with sexual byler in fan spaces is that there are some people who wrote highly sexual fics when the show was still in its infancy and byler did indeed look like children, and in which byler were NOT aged up. the issue here is that they were written to act in the way that no 12/13/14 year old would - I’m not even talking sexual discovery, but rather the pornification of young byler. These works were clearly gratuitous in tone rather than remedial or exploratory, so I’m sure it’s no surprise that to most average fans, these works were considered uncomfortable.
What you said about ‘what does 14 look like anyway?’ is an interesting one, and the root of many judgemental issues in society that extend to age gaps between lovers even into their 40s and 50s. The key here is about behaviour and build, I think. Film is very visual, and though I could suspend my disbelief that byler in s4 were 14, it was more like I just ignored their ages because they didn’t seem to matter to the plot (RIP me when birthdaygate becomes real). Primarily, I was LOOKING at mike and will, and their bodies, and the acting - the way they moved and delivered certain lines - is what made me unable to ignore, subconsciously, that these guys were not 14 year olds. They were post-pubescent.
That said, s3 was an odd one. So let’s quickly list what byler should look like if Finn and Noah matched Mike and Will’s ages irl.
S1 byler should look like S1 Finn, S2 Noah
S2 byler should look like S2 Finn, S3 Noah (already its feeling weird)
S3 byler should look like S2 Finn, S3 Noah
S4 byler should look like S2 Finn, S3 Noah
Already you can see we have some issues because Finn looks so young and his build is so different to Noah’s. The costume designers discussed this in s4… it’s just a part of working with growing actors, and I personally believe that the duffers wrote the story to the actor’s abilities. Actually, they’ve said they do this, and I think it means that they up the ante to find a balance between what a fictional teen would actually do, and what the irl actors would look good doing. Finn was 18 playing mike in s4.. if he was still behaving like s2 mike, would it have been absurd? Was it an acting choice to make his delivery more mature? I especially think this is noticeable with MBB and eleven, who looks like a young woman in s4, especially with the final scene costume design. But then again, eleven is a unique character with a unique experience.
Or maybe the directing and acting is just inconsistent. Maybe both. Who knows. Honestly, the duffers knew the perils of working with a young cast and so should have expected all the possible responses fans might have, including sexualisation. That isn’t to remove blame from (actually problematic) fans, but I do remember my main concern when watching in s1 being: man, I hope that these kid actors will be taken care of emotionally as they grow into adults.
And I think that’s the rub in this debate - it’s that approach and the way the actors carry themselves when performing which lends itself to the emotional maturity of the characters. They were clearly children in the early seasons, and so sexualisation, then, just feels way off to me. After all, paedophilia is literally about adult attraction to undermatured, pre-pubescent bodies; its essentially considered unnatural and an error in the brain because you are seeing something that isn’t there; you are seeing a child’s body as though it is ready for sexual activity, and it’s not. That doesn’t happen until puberty physically. You dont need me to tell you that this is why teenagers are so horny as they go through the changes. But being emotionally ready? That gets complex. You could argue that’s also why people tell coming of age stories. Because it’s difficult and uncomfortable and INTERESTING.
And it’s why the staunch line of a specific age itself, rather than bodily and emotional maturity, being the decider whether someone is an adult or not is so reductive.
But, hey - we need structure and laws and guidelines otherwise everything gets too grey. So they decided 18 in the USA, but other ages elsewhere, and some people take that literally even when it’s inappropriate to do so, for example condemning their own needs. It’s all about whether you are hurting someone. Obviously, sexualising actual children is damaging to them, so it’s wrong. But exploring your sexuality when it appears in a healthy way is not damaging, and fantasy is hurting no one except, possibly, yourself.
Tl;dr - yes people get attached to the actual imagery of byler, because tv is primarily audiovisual and this is who the characters *are* to lots of viewers. It’s also near impossible to age them up without thinking of the real life actors, which some people would consider crossing a boundary into rpf, even though this process is what casting directors, writers and creators in film need to do all the time.
So my poll is a bit more specific, and about preference rather than censorship or whats ‘ok’. Please choose what best applies to you.
I’m comfortable shipping byler sexually…
a. When byler are pre-pubescent and the actors were too (s1-2)
b. When byler are pre-pubescent but the actors were mid-pubescent (s3)
c. When byler are pubescent but the actors are post-pubescent (s4)
d. Once both byler and the actors are post-pubescent (s5 aged up)
e. Even if the characters are still 14-15 in s5, because I want to see their arc completed and if the duffers show it then it means it must be ok
f. No matter their age; theyre fictional and its not about the actors at all for me
g. Only when engaging with fan works, no matter their age, but only if sex is character exploration
h. Only when engaging with fan works, no matter their age, even if smut/pornographic
i. Only when engaging with fan works, post-pubescent, but only if sex is character exploration
j. Only when engaging with fan works, post-pubescent, even if smut/pornographic
k. I can’t picture aged-up byler without thinking of Finn + noah because we’ve never seen what aged up byler would actually look like
Please note that the purpose of this blog is not to be creepy or to make anyone uncomfortable. That's why I created the #spicy byler tag (I will tag all polls with this). If you don't want to see this blog or anything related to it on your feed, please block that tag. Not everyone is comfortable with this sorta stuff, and that's okay.

The Hyyders Squad!
Welp, I'm finally done with this. Yeh I literally made more of my frend Al's OCs into ASGD characters BCS I CAN!
Also them by themselves bcs frik u:
SOOOOOOO...... From left to right we HAVE! (I did update some of their names since the last time I introduced them fully.):
Gerald Lyconoth ((Dad of originally 1 but now is a dad of 2 after the 300 year permafrost. Is a very nervous nerd guy but does have some unspoken problems (based on his original self's Canon lore). Also the supposed leader of the Hyyders Squad. Mayhaps is 42? No one knows, his id just says hes 40+. A Earth Human.))
Joslyne Roregiz Shepard ((Angy lady who's was also a retired military officer but now lives with a old lady who she calls a boomer. Does not care whatsoever if she's hurting you, she's only a "bite first questions last" type of person. Basically the fighter of the squad but really thinks she the leader due to thinking Gerald is not actually capable to be a leader even though the squad is a... research team... Is 35. Also a Earth human but a bit unhinged.))
Triss Fallison ((Guy with low self esteem & may have a identity crisis every now & then (poor guy). Is oddly innocent & kinda doesn't know what is going on but he hold some pretty dark secrets only his adopted family knows. Is around 24 but his past still sometimes gets to him. Is one of newer members of the group & he is mainly the harvester & collector (although may have been threatened by Joslyne many times that she WILL use him as a meat shield so he is kinda scared of her). Jelly Boi but was raised by a Serpenskolk couple who is now trying to fit into human society.))
Dyan'nah Laemeria Kon'sai ((Old lady who for some reason has a major immunity to poisons & the effects of eating tainted food. Is a no bs person who is also tired of Joslyne's (her current roommate) rampant bs & wishes that lady who's like in her 30s stop acting like a child BECAUSE SHE KNOWS SHE WAS A MILITARY OFFICER! Is teh pharmacist/nurse of the group & often test the herbs that Triss brings in. May look like in her late 40s but is actually a lot older than that but due to mechanical science she looks pretty young by her standards. The last person of a now extinct race of exo-humans but she was born in a lab owned by Stellowbark.))
Yes this is in fact them. Now these guys do have a major role in ASGD bcs this main role happens to take place 300 years later (aka the time ASGD's storyline takes place) & yeh they are uh... on a icey planet bcs the kid of Gerald ACCIDENTALLY let out a frikin demonic being named Mesmer & now the planet they were researching about is now a icey horrorland.
Btw if you wanna see their squad logo uh.... its in the link under here:
So yeh, I hope you enjoy looking at this. ANYWAYS IMMA GO PUT THESE ON TH NOW & SEND THEM TO MY FREND AL-
Characters aren't mine, while designed by me, their colors ARE DIRECTLY BASED ON the Characters they're AUs of. (As they still belong to Al who is my frend)
Art: Mine.
Program: Ibispaint x
Bubs' TOS: Plz don't repost/steal, trace, or recolor my art WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! If you do, I'll take yur femur and pelvis.. SO, DON'T THINK ABOUT IT! Ok but my question is how does the timeline work?
Let's say Jaune was around 18-19 when he got to the ever after, and the oldest he could've been when they all left was 60-ish.
He was already significantly older when he met Alyx, so late 20's to mid 30's? (And that's lowballing it)
That means that between Luis leaving the ever after, and our characters arriving, there's maybe 40 years.
We know our main cast grew up on the story "the girl who fell through the world", meaning they must have read it when they were kids, maybe 5-10 years old. So that's 30 years after Lewis left the ever after, and I'm guessing it took him a few years to write and publish it.
So how did the story become so popular in a relatively short time? And consider, it's probably harder to publish and distribute books and stuff on Remnant.
The only explanation I can think of is that time goes faster in the ever after. That could mean that RWBYJ were gone for even less time than we thought, but then how did all the airships manage to make it to Vacuo so quickly?
I guess maybe the flow of time in the ever after isn't linear compared to Remnant? Idk

Cozy mysteries - if you’ve read one you know the genre! Often follow the plot pattern of: [single young woman/divorcee] returns to [hometown/other important location of her childhood] to [take over family/start a new] business. Someone is murdered! Because [the murder hurts her business/she’s a suspect/her bestie is a suspect/…] she must investigate extra-judiciously. Luckily she is successful, and also a romance is developing with the hunky [detective/co-worker…it’s usually a detective and/or cop tho].
Despite the similarities, many cozy mysteries I’ve read do have a thing or two that sets them apart! Read on for some recommendations based on what kind of experience you might be looking for! (In order of how recently I read them; this is by no means an exhaustive list, just some things I read and thought worth recommending.)
Are you looking for a cozy mystery series that…
…has recurring characters that may become future murderers/victims?
Local Foods Mystery Series, by Edith Maxwell!
Otherwise a fairly typical cozy mystery experience, but I did like the setting and the journey to end up with the love interest - who is not, for once, described mainly as “handsome,” but is given physical traits that have no inherent value, but which the heroine obviously likes. (It’s a small thing, but worth noting!)
…has characters of color as the main cast?
Noodle Shop Mystery series, by Vivien Chien
In this mystery, when the main character moves “back home” it means she’s working in her parent’s noodle house again, in a shopping center full of Chinese-American owned businesses. This is the community she mostly solves mysteries in. Cute and funny at times!
…has a love interest who isn’t a cop?
Melanie Travis mystery series, by Laurien Berenson
As you can hopefully tell from the cover, the sort of business/special interest driving this cozy series is dog breeding and dog shows! The main character’s aunt gets her into helping show standard Poodles. Aside from the fascinating look into the world of showing dogs, the mysteries are fairly standard, but I do like (as said above) that the love interest isn’t a cop for once - and also and maybe more importantly, the main character is a single mom who really loves her six-year-old and has to deal with logistics like child care before diving into dog shows and mysteries.
…has a more experienced amateur detective?
Coffeehouse Mysteries, by Cleo Coyle
She’s not experienced at solving crime, but she’s a 40-something divorcée with an adult daughter who, in book 1, is about to take back over a coffee house that she has several years of experience running. In other ways, not dissimilar from the standard cozy series outline - except that they take place in NYC instead of a small town somewhere! Also good if you like a slow burn romance - it takes several books for the main character to get with the main love interest.
…has characters more complex than they seem?
Cajun Country Mysteries, by Ellen Byron
These also have a strong, fun sense of place deep in the heart of Louisiana, though in a fictional town. Though essentially light-hearted, they do acknowledge the history of plantations in the area, as well as giving the reader a look at various true funky Cajun Country traditions. The recurring characters are a little over-the-top at points, but they’re saved by the added complexity: for example, the mean sheriff character who is nowhere near as handsome as his detective cousin (guess who the love interest is…) turns out to be a still annoying but OK guy who is able to acknowledge when he was wrong. Also, as someone who works in hospitality: the people staying in the main character’s BnB are unfortunately not super over-the-top, people can really be like that. (Except with less murder, in my experience.)
…has a Marple-ish (older, underestimated) protagonist?
Deadly Edits series, by Kaitlyn Dunnett
There is no love interest here! (At least, not in the ones I read.) A retired widow moves to her childhood hometown and opens a copy-editing business, then starts solving murders. It’s a nice change of pace from the young businesswomen looking for love, if you’re still looking for an essentially cozy plot.
#eb's mystery recs#book recs#cozy mysteries#none of these is perfect but all can be enjoyable in different ways

why do the people who age up fictional characters get hate but the writers who are legal and share smut with real life minors dont get any hate at all
Hi Anon, this is going to go on for a while. Sorry, sorta.
I'm going to answer this as best I can and I hope you find some closure or at the very least, some part of something you were looking for.
The long and short of it is, I don't know.
I think maybe because the stuff on the internet is so much more easily accessible is one of the main reasons (we) fanfic writers are such direct targets. Sure, I know books are everywhere, too. Though, don't stores card for stuff like that? I haven't purchased a paper copy of anything for so long that I don't know what the protocol is. And I look well over 18+ so maybe they just don't bother carding people who look it.
There are plenty of books out there that are not appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. Possibly - depending on one's beliefs - for people over the age of 18.
That's not for me to decide, though.
What I DO MAKE SURE TO DO is label each piece of writing I do that is not for a younger audience and put in my bio that what I write is not for the consumption of anyone under 18. I believe my exact words were "This shit show is 18+. You've been warned." Something like that.
"18+ MINORS DO NOT INTERACT 18+"
I put a second 18+ in case the first one was missed.
I think it's just a matter of access. The internet is, for all intents and purposes, free, once you have an opening to it you can get damn near anything you really want to see on it without parental consent. Unless you have parents who have put a block on this dumpster fire. In which case, you should make a mental note to thank them when you're grown and see just what the Christ is going on out here sometimes, lol. If you're in a bookstore and you want to buy a copy of Playboy, you're going to be shut down from your attempt if you're ... oh, say 15? 16? Either that or heavily carded/ID'd. And if you don't provide verifiable proof of your age, they should turn you away.
I'm not saying that because this stuff is so easy to get to that it's ok by any means for any minor to read. I wish that everyone who isn't of legal age (here or wherever they reside) would heed the warnings. They're there for a reason.
Now, I'm going to touch on aging up characters. I'm guilty of not always putting that I aged up whoever I was writing about if they needed to be. But THEY'RE FAKE. They're lines. They're art. They're paper, basically. Ink and paper. So I don't understand how someone can go from blasting an actual pedo to getting on here and saying that fanfic writers are just as bad. It pisses me off, if I'm being honest. The comparison is quite a stretch, I think. Because while I am not that faithful about documenting that I aged up characters, in my head, they're no younger than 21-40. And that's probably why I don't say I am aging them up because I just don't see them as minors. I've noticed that male characters in anime often look considerably older than they are. Maybe that's because they're the hero of the day or whatever. And I don't write about female characters. Not because I hate them, but I really just don't have any interest in doing that.
The vast majority of us all make it a point to say that the character(s) we write about are of legal age to partake in such ... activities. I don't know. I went through a phase where I felt like absolute shit about myself because of some of the stuff I read about people (on HERE - other writers) comparing someone who abuses an actual minor to a writer that talks about getting down and dirty with a 17 yr old superhero (again, they don't exist). But when I came to the conclusion (very shortly after reading those opinions) that I would never never never ever ever ever do anything so fucking disgusting, I got over it.
There are miles between reality and fiction. If someone else can't separate the two, maybe they're the ones who need the help?
The whole premise of that world, the anime world, is the impossible. Is it not? And I'm not saying in any capacity is it ok to look at someone and assume just because they look older that it must be ok to engage with them. IT'S NOT.
I hope this offered you some clarity, Anon. And I apologize for going off. I guess your question was a good one to make me think so much.

A Boss and A Babe - episode 2
Cher continues to endear himself to me despite all my expectations of finding him incredibly annoying. My darling ADHD baby. "Please pause before going on to the next thought." Uh no, sorry Boss that's not how our minds work.
But I love his irrepressible spirit, his absolute refusal to be intimidated by anyone, especially not this picky boss.
Right on the tail of watching SOTUS, I'm seeing a lot of overlap between the main couples' dynamics—the man with the power and the one who's like, Aw I know you think you're all tough and in charge, but I'm going to find you adorable anyway. Obviously Boss is not power tripping bully, just a tsundere rich man, so I don't have to hate him, but I love Cher and Kong for many of the same reasons.
(I'm just going to quietly ignore all the workers' rights violations of making your employee stay up late to ASMR you to sleep on the phone now escalated to video calls. We've gotta create situations of intimacy somehow to get the ball rolling on this romance.)
Others have talked about "straight ally" Cher's attack on homophobia and defense of marriage equality, and I nod my head along with them.
Mike as Jack continues to be beautiful.
Cher continues to appeal to me more than the story around him, but I'll survive.
I like Boss in this dark green suit w/ matching tie and shirt. Is that bottle green? I call that color bottle green in my head at least. Does this mean he's a Green Guy? Has @respectthepetty done the colors for ABAAB? I can't remember. (Absolutely no pressure! The opposite of pressure! I'm just musing cause I like the suit on him.)
Ok I'm trying not to focus on the office part of this office romance, but shouldn't the legal department be heavily involved in this decision? Shouldn't there be contracts in place saying what's Boss's and what's the smarmy ex-co-founder's? Or like, intellectual property law precedent or something? Not that I'm a lawyer. Or an entrepreneur. But I feel like this business is running off vibes and feelings, and that's not an effective strategy. </end uninformed yet oddly strong opinions>
Omg Zo and Three 😂🤣 I feel a toothache coming on from this🍬🍡🍭 overdose. They pull off these ridiculous lines though 😂
Force is doing just fine, don't get me wrong, but I still think a lot of things in this story would be better served by an actor who's visibly at least a decade older than the young employees in the cast. Like 40, 35 at the youngest. I don't know how old the character is supposed to be or where exactly the story is going, and perhaps his youth is a point, but I do find everyone's reactions to him as this intimidating authority kinda jarring in the context of Force's extremely youthful face.
Sometimes I love a big group meal (especially with upbeat acoustic guitar on the soundtrack) where the lonely uptight character starts to thaw a little bit, and maybe gets a taste of what belonging feels like. (I feel like the template in my head for this kind of moment is Gwyneth Paltrow in Sliding Doors.) Plus bonus Cher feeding Boss! (I eventually remembered his name is Gun but I still prefer calling him Boss.) In a very clear imitation of Zo feeding Three!
Yeah, everyone is noticing the vibes between these two. Interrogation time! Cher, what is going on between you and the boss, hmm? Aw, mon cher Cher doesn't know yet, sweet thing.
This and Bed Friend are very different shows, but I keep getting the casts of coworkers mixed up in my head.
The imaginings of them in bed together are grudgingly winning me over, I guess. Just because they're so cute like this. (But who is imagining it? Cher? Gun? The audience? It's all too vague as a storytelling device.)
Okaaay revealing your friend's private medical information to his coworker! Like, I'm guessing the show's intent is to de-stigmatized mental illness. But in universe it's a, ah, pretty fucked-up thing to do 😬
I kinda love Aoi's blatantly transparent "manipulation." Oh man, but Cher stayed quite late for her document. What a sweetheart.
Uh-oh. I was worried he was going to lock himself out of the office building, but it looks like there will be other trouble caused by the front door. My guess, Thyme the ex-co-founder will try to sneak in to steal company secrets. Am I right? We shall see.
Aw and his knight in shining armor is here to save him from the rain 😍
"Fasting for seven days is easier than stopping bad-mouthing for seven hours." Oh yeah this man has ADHD for sure. I don't know if the writers know this, but I know this.
"Though I have lots of responsibilities, I'm actually not that older than you." Well I guess that answer one of my questions. Still, I think this would be much richer as an age gap romance. I'm not even a major age gap fan, I just feel like it's what the story is wanting to be and Thai BL casting conventions held it back. (Again, no shade to Force who's doing great.)
But also these two are so cute together, and there are other advantages having them be near age peers, so who's to say.
Aww, my poor baby capitalist, carrying around all this guilt and self-loathing. (This sounds sarcastic, and it is a little, but I also genuinely love and feel for baby capitalist Gun.)
That man was about to kiss his intern right then and there. And I for one cannot blame him; who could resist after Cher's speech. (I am glad he resisted though, none of us (neither Cher, Gun, nor me) are ready for that yet.)
Cher what are you saying? "More than a hug"?! Are you teasing him on purpose? Did you realize you almost got kissed?
Um maybe? I can't figure out exactly how oblivious Cher is about his own sexuality and his attraction to Boss. But he's definitely asking for a kiss now.
However! The tension in the air is electric! The whisper in Cher's ear! (The kiss itself... eh... pretty dead fish tbh, but we won't dwell and at least that makes sense in context.)
Ok, the second kiss is significantly better, so fair. The first one was merely a challenge, this one is The Kiss. (I mean, it's not going to make my top kisses of BL list, but it adequately conveys their attraction to each other.)
So I guess Cher and Gun were ready for a kiss after all. I will just have to catch myself up.
And that's a wrap! Second episode and we've already had their first kiss, this is moving faster than I expected. I'm still not really sure what either of them are thinking about the other, but I find o don't mind, for now.
A Boss and A Babe continues to way outperform my (admittedly low) expectations. It's gentle, but with enough bite to keep it interesting to me, and Cher and Boss have a chemistry that works well for the story. I'm not exactly sure where things are going, especially because I was not expecting a kiss until the last quarter of the show, so my assumptions, such as they were, are all upended. But I find I don't mind.

Ok but realistically speaking, do you think that it's possible for Claudia and Madeleine to be girlfriends? The idea seemed appealing to me on a surface level, but when I started to dig deeper into it...Claudia will be what, like, 40 y.o. when they reach Paris? Her potential companion would need to be somewhat around that age, so that they're compatible. Considering that Madeleine is human when she appears in the story - I'm not sure if I want Bailey to be paired with a middle-aged actress :( It just rubs me in a very wrong way. Or maybe they could make Madeleine a vampire right from the start? Do you think this option is valid plot-wise?
Hey nonny!
A while ago someone asked re Madeleine, and I personally think that beginning, middle of to end of twenty would fit very well with her (for an age).
Now. Claudia may be 40 in her mind... but despite part of that maturing, aspects of it are stuck in the 14year old state. It makes for an interesting conundrum. And a rather special... needs mixture.
Personally, I think it would fit well if the actress were a bit older than her... but not too much. In terms of the story her mind would have matured, as well as her body. She would be both older and younger than Claudia, and, depending on her character and history, that may be quite fitting.
I would like to see them as girlfriends! Definitely more than a mother figure for Claudia, I don't see how that would fit tbh. I mean, Claudia would rebel against that, wouldn't she.
(Come to think of it... if Madeleine is a bit older than Claudia... there is the thing with Armand with would... fit then, too. Uh oh... :)))
#asks#thank you nonny#great now I have this idea in my head and I would bet real money they do that IF they go there#iwtv#interview with the vampire#madeleine#ask nalyra

1. Mun is severely over 21. Victoria, Australia (Australian EST). Not mutuals only, but semi-selective. 18+ only, please.
2. Rules are under the Readmore below. Last rules update 15th March 2023.
3. About/Verses on Carrd For her main verse, please at least read the summary at the top here. Marvel, Dune and Tolkien verses are movie/TV based.
4. Filter or block these tags to avoid: Smut: NaughtyList, BadThings, enn-ess-eff-double-u Short one-liner RP: Short Chat RP
5. Please don’t reblog memes etc from me if you’re not going to send one. Reblog them from the source instead.
Memes - Ship Memes - Not SFW Memes - Munday Memes - Open Starters
6. Muse Stats Hair: Brown Eyes: Blue-Grey Age: In AU verses, usually 30+ Place of Birth: In her mainverse, Cornwall, England Gender: Female Sexuality: Heterosexual
7. Rules under the cut.
This is a hobby: And so say all of us. But it’s a hobby that’s supposed to be fun for both of us, and there are things that make it less so for me, and that’s why there’s these rules.
------------
Basics Mun is aged 40s, Victoria, Australia (Australian EST). Original character and writing are mine and not for reproduction. (2012-2023). Likewise original graphics on the blog (icons, promos, background images) are made by me and are not for general use.
18+ Only and have a Rules Page I don’t RP with anyone under the age of 18 years, and selectively with those under 21. I’m ‘mature age’ to say the least, and I am just not comfortable interacting with minors. If I can’t find a statement that you’re at least 18+ on your blog, I won’t follow.
I don’t RP with muses who don’t have their rules somewhere. If there’s something where we just won’t be compatible, I’d like to know before we start.
New rule, 15/3/2023: No more child muses. Unless we’ve already been writing together before March 2023, I won’t be interacting with muses who are young children (ie, under 13 years old). Background NPCs are OK, but not children who are the main muse. Any threads with older teens will be strictly platonic.
Shipping / Smutting.
I’m not here to ‘smut-and-go’. If you RP purely for smut more power to you, but that’s just not my jam. Smut can and does happen here, but we need to have at least some connection between the muses before it will. And on that note …
Shipping needs to be talked about first. Thera is multiship, male-attracted, and we enjoy shipping. But it’s still not going to be an automatic-everybody thing. If I know the mun well and/or we’ve shipped with other muses, it’s probably already a yes. Otherwise there’s got to be some sort of IC build up and OOC talk as well, to see how we and the muses get along.
No means no. On both sides. If I say no to something I expect you to listen. Conversely, if you say no I’m going to take that as final, so if you change your mind later you need to tell me.
Interaction Please communicate, please reciprocate. As it says at the top this is a hobby, but it’s a hobby we should both enjoy and it’s not enjoyable when something’s all one-sided. Busy happens, favourites happen, but if I’m doing all the sending and messaging and you don’t do any, especially if you’re active with others, then no hard feelings but I’m going to move along.
Reblogging Threads and Personal blogs Please don’t reblog or insert your muse in threads if you’re not already in them.
I don’t RP with personal (non-RP) blogs. I always check to see if a personal-blog follower has RP sideblogs.
Reblogging Memes Please don’t reblog memes or starter lists from me without sending me one. You don't have to send me something, but if you don’t please reblog them from the source instead.
Post length I’m good with any, as long as we’re on the same page. But if I’m doing paras and getting one line back, it makes me wonder if you really want to be doing it at all. If you’re stuck, I’m totally open to waiting, plotting or re-writing.
Starter Calls (mine) Starters take me time, effort and ideas, but a lot of them go unanswered. So, I have a 3-strike rule. If I write you starters you request three times and you don’t reply or let me know there’s a problem, I won’t write any more for you.
Triggers and Tags NSFW or strong violence will be tagged (smut is tagged ‘BadThings’ and 'NaughtyList'), potential triggers as '[thing] tw'. If you need anything specific tagged, let me know (if you have a tag already blacklisted, tell me and I’ll use it).
Likewise, if there’s something you’re not comfortable RPing (or thought you were but then realise you’re not) please say so - I only ask that you do the same for me if needed.
I will not play/write: Infidelity/cheating plots, animal abuse, non-con, dub-con (including A/B/O) or sexual assault. ‘Unrequited crush’ threads need to be talked about first. I’m also very shy of ‘fight’ threads where it’s Thera against someone else’s muse. Her vs random NPCs is fine, but I realise your muse is your baby as much as she is mine, and I’m reluctant to have either of them beat up the other!
Addition: Manipulative/Abusive characters. In short, sorry but no. They can be fascinating characters to watch and explore, but I’ve had to deal with abusive relationships OOC both on and offline, and I do not want to be dealing with them in my RP as well. Villains are on a case by case basis, but muses who are by their canon nature or intended to be played as irredeemably abusive are not. RP is my pretendy-fun-time and that is not fun for me.
God-Modding and Meta-gaming
God-Modding. I write my muse, you write yours, and if in doubt, ask. Please don’t decide for me what she does, thinks or feels (or did before the events of the thread), that your muse has done something major to her, or put her in a certain situation, without running it past me first. Also, ignoring what I’ve just written and continuing as if Thera never said or did something counts as god-modding, too.
Verses are separate unless it's been discussed OOC beforehand. Please don't shoehorn Thera into your own existing group verse without talking about it with me first.
Meta-gaming is giving your muse OOC knowledge IC. There are muses out there powerful enough that they could know things, but please talk to me about it first. Your muse suddenly knowing all about Thera for no IC reason and without asking me is not going to work out.
On those last two points, I also reserve the right to say no.
Anons, Drama, Vague/Guilt-Posting
Anons. Anon hate gets blocked. Next!
Drama. Anyone who flies straight into hate, callouts and encouraging others to harass someone is going to get blocked. I don’t care what your position is, I’ve got no time for that behaviour.
Vague posting/Guilt tripping. If you do this regularly, aimed at me or anyone else, you’ll be unfollowed and I likely won’t interact with you again. We all lapse sometimes, but if you’re always making nasty comments every time a partner does something you don’t like, this is going to apply.
Trying to pressure or guilt me into RPing with you is going to have the opposite effect to what you want. Asking if I saw a post or reminding me once or twice is fine, talking to me directly about a problem, likewise. Messages specifically intended to make me feel bad for not replying/RPing with you are not.
Thanks for reading through!
Last rules update 15th March 2023.

the first parabola audio drama drops tomorrow in a few hours so here are my preliminary thoughts about the members
Mizuki
honestly I feel like this says enough. Jesus fucking Christ girl
I think the dichotomy between the groups (or at least their leaders) reason for doing acapella is interesting: parabola in it for "success" and to achieve heights in the music industry while temarizawa is in it just for the passion of it all and for the bonds they strengthen with each other (see airi's quote). It reminds me a little of the contrast ave mujica and mygo's philosophies/worldviews.. idk if utamille's writing is gonna get AS insane as avemygo (because Yamanaka could if he really wanted to/was able) but you see the overlap right...? I'm curious to see how that difference leads to conflict though: Mizuki has that line in the trailer that's like "you all that aren't even thinking of aiming higher" (my Japanese is VERY amateurish [please keep that in mind throughout the rest of this post lol] but I think that's the gist), I initially thought she was addressing the rest of parabola but it'd make more sense for it to be directed to temarizawa instead...she knows airi and reirei already but that was when it was just the two of them, so I'm looking forward to how their dynamic changes. speaking of conflict: her "that youth that those girls hold so dear just might be destroyed" line (also from the trailer) is so fucking funny to me like girl you are ~21 years old beefing with a bunch of HIGH SCHOOLERS!!!!! airi and rei are the oldest but they're still 17 like those are some KIDS. not saying she's ~weird~ or anything like that, I just always find the whole "rival group is all adults and main group is all teens and there is a lot of tension and antagonizing between them" trope a riot so im honestly kinda looking forward to it. again I don't know how intense utamille is gonna get but (pointing to her CV being moeka koizumi) we should all be a little scared of her guys. "Hobby: finding young people with potential" YOU NEED TO CHILL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zoe:
hmmm. honestly she's the one I have the least thoughts on? Like my least favorite member in Temarizawa is rei (not as in I dislike her I just like the other members more) so like....I guess i lean away from the more "responsible" types. Although I'm just now realizing that she's the first Yamanaka character that's fully foreign and not of mixed descent like muu/stork/azuma (I still haven't played caligula2 so I'm not sure if there's anyone there), so I wonder if that's gonna come up at all
Kikka:
this sounds like a real reach but I have a theory that she's actually uta's older sister...like ok listen. uta mentions having an older sister that is in uni (like kikka) and seems to live with just her dad, and not uta herself and her mom, so people were wondering if they had divorced....it would explain the difference in surnames because iirc in Japan when parents split up the children take on the names of the parent that they are in the custody of. and they have a naming scheme of 歌 in their given names, even though the reading is different! And the meanings of the first character in their given names are similar too:
Also 喜歌 is part of the word for 嬉歌劇 (comic opera) which is cool....overall her attitude feels like a contrast to some of the others like Mizuki and tama and closer to that of temarizawas like I was talking before. all very interesting
Tama
It's too early to try and figure out who's supposed to foil who but I feel like she definitely is one to Ururu, she's a successful and popular influencer while Ururu has like...40 subs on YouTube LMFAO. it looks like she's in charge of the arrangements? The system of 3 vocalists sounds so sick, I want to see how she conceptualized it! Also it would be funny if she only had the :3 face on when talking to her fans
Karin:
I wonder if she's supposed to parallel Kuma in that they don't talk.. although in her case it doesn't seem like it's due to insecurities BECAUSE of her voice. I love how they got an actual beatboxing player for her. I think the difference between her and temarizawa having a voice percussion and bass will be fun to listen ro

I mean...yeah.
The people upset he didn't fall in love the instant he met her are a little weird because even for regency era...that would have been quite the gap. I think they are confusing the fact Nicola and Luke are older with what the character's ages actually are.
Then later she debuts at 16? 17? and I don't really fault him for having her in a box where he shouldn't think of her that way. Second season a bit different and I maintain he was subconsciously feeling something different.
I know marrying 16 wouldn't be unheard of anymore than marrying a girl off to an old lecher was unheard of but all the same....doesn't mean I can pretend I'd be ok with it. Anymore than I get people who think we should be excited about Pen courted by a man in his '40's.
