Guess who finally has colors!

That’s right! New ninja!!! Along with me trying to kinda draw them in the Rc9gn style! (Reason why I said kinda is cuz this doesn’t even really look like the shows art style to me)

You have no idea how long it took for me to decide the colors for this kid, especially their clothes! Idk about the hair color yet but so far it’s alright to me I guess so I’ll keep it. originally the ribbon was bandages with blood to make parts look red but i realized

Howdy everyone! It's me again. Can you believe it's been a month? I certainly can’t. It's wild how quickly time flies when you’re busy lol.

I once again unfortunately don’t have much for this update. I had the unthinkable happen to me and had my art tablet throw itself off a cliff and had to switch to a new one I had laying around from a friend who was moving out and graciously gave to me.

On top of learning how to use a much more advanced tablet, I also realized something: I am so incredibly spatially unaware that I am going to either need to learn how to use blender or hire someone else to do the backgrounds, but I am poor and can’t afford that unfortunately. But this is why I made the test comics: so I’m figuring this shit out before I actually have to tell a meaningful story. This just means we’ll be waiting a little longer than I intended for the first test comic issue unfortunately, while I figure this crap out.

I have also learned that attempting to not do shortcut shading doesn’t work for me and I will never do it again lol. It has been whats bogging this down.

Not to fret though! Since you all voted in a poll a week or two ago to have every issue be released as they are made, you’ll be getting it a lot sooner than you thought! And here is a little bit of the cover for the two test comic issues (I couldn’t find it in me to make two separate ones, so I just made one. The first issue is literally 3 pages.)

No ones here to hear me air my grievances about the fact I have only been able to get 3 pages done in a month, but in my defense: I don’t have my own device (I share it with my father who works full time), I have travelled a lot, and I have literally no idea what I’m doing. So here's some doodles to make up for that, and a link to the Happy Birthday Barry post in case you missed it.

Oh did I forget to mention that Barry is in this project? Yeah, they’re here.

I’m sorry for not actually following through on the releasing, and I can’t promise an issue every month just yet either. Once I get my own device over the summer, things will be a lot smoother, especially once finals are done. I don’t think the second test comic should take nearly as long, since the learning curve should be less extreme.

The quality of the first test comic is less than I want to promise for the future, so please be patient!! I promise it’ll be worth it in the end. Maybe.

Man, this update is bleak. Have a frame from the first test comic as a treat, and a minor character from Part One, and I’ll see you in like, a week with a release announcement post. Also, keep an eye open for the directories I’ll be posting soon! They’ll all have their own cute little art to go with too. See you then, and thank you for your patience.

Reading over it myself, I really don't think they are faked as the idea of someone faking this entire book 2 weeks before it releases, with high quality physical copy scans.. I don't think an entire team of trolls would go to this effort to fake it when their cover will be blown ~2 weeks from the initial leak. As someone who has followed many wc leaks in the past, this is usually around the time when genuine leaks on the WC Forums pop up, one or two weeks to a few days before the book(s) come out. Same thing happened here. The leak came from someone on the WC Forums. Why build up so much credibility just to tank it now? I wouldn't know the answer honestly... But if proven wrong or right, I suppose January 7th will give some insight!

Anyway yeah I never read the Shadow and Bone series so I don't know much about madraya but I hope this still manages to fit in canon? If not, consider it an AU lol.

“Are you absolutely sure this is a good idea?” Mal asked, his thousandth question in so many hours.

For the thousandth time, Nikolai responded with a reassuring smile. “Yes, Mal, I’m sure.”

“I just want to remind you that I have no real family titles and I’m not even the Firebird anymore,” Mal pointed out, adjusting his collar nervously. “I’m a nobody.”

Nikolai stepped forward and fixed the collar. “And I’d just like to remind you that you’re a hero to the world. But even if you weren’t, you’re the one I chose to spend the rest of my life with, which means you’re not a nobody for long. You’re definitely someone to me.”

Leaning forward more, Nikolai captured Mal’s lips in a soft kiss. His shoulders relaxed, as if that one act reassured him more than any words had. It sent a thrill through Nikolai, knowing that he brought comfort to his boyfriend.

No, fiancé, he reminded himself.

That was the whole point of this: announcing Nikolai’s engagement to the queen mother. Mal had proposed to Nikolai on the deck of the Volkvony weeks earlier. It could never be an official marriage, of course, with Nikolai needing alliances more than air, but it was the one that mattered. Still, Nikolai felt it important that his mother know, lest she have a more public reaction later on. She hadn’t spoken to Mal more than in passing, so it was also an opportunity for Mal to meet her. Hence the nerves.

Less than an hour later, they were at a small dining table. The former queen was at the head, with Nikolai and Mal on either side of the table. Although stiff, Mal had gotten through introductions and it was going smoothly.

“Madraya,” Nikolai said as they began their second course, “I’m afraid I wasn’t entirely honest about my reasons for introducing you to Mal.”

The man in question stiffened more, and avoided Tatiana’s eyes as she replied, “Do tell dear.”

Nikolai cleared his throat. “The truth is, he and I have gotten closer than ever these past few months, and…and we’ve decided to marry.”

Tatiana blinked, fork poised midair. “Oh.”

“It’ll be a small ceremony, not announced to the public,” Nikolai rushed to clarify. “It’s just—well, to be frank, he’s the love of my life and I couldn’t bear to be with anyone else.”

Mal relaxed fractionally at that, directing a small smile towards Nikolai, who easily returned it.

“I didn’t realize—well I suppose congratulations are in order.” Tatiana said awkwardly.

“Thank you, mother,” Nikolai said, relaxing entirely. But it was a little early for relief.

“Of course, you’ll have to find heirs,” the queen mother added conversationally. “Although it’s good you can’t produce one together.”

“Sorry, why’s that?” Nikolai asked.

“Well not only is he a commoner,” Tatiana began, causing Nikolai’s heart to sink, “but he’s got Morozova blood in him.”

“Well, yes, but it’s not like it means anything anymore,” Mal clarified before Nikolai could respond.

“Well, it might mean something down the line,” Tatiana corrected. “Especially since it would taint the Lantsov bloodline.”

“Taint?” Mal asked, echoing Nikolai’s thoughts. “Morozova’s been dead for ages—and one man’s actions don’t define his ancestors.”

“Well, yes, of course,” Tatiana reassured him. “But he’s got Grisha in the family.”

“Madraya—” Nikolai began, but Mal was already reacting. Fuck, this wasn’t ending well, was it?

“I’m sorry, are you still caught up on Grisha?” he demanded. “After all they’ve done for you?”

“Mal,” Nikolai warned.

“Well, it’s not as if everything they’ve done has helped,” Tatiana said with a laugh. “The only reason we needed the Sun Summoner was because another Grisha caused problems.”

“And the actions of the few tell us about the Grisha as a whole?” Mal was getting angry now, instigated by the mention of Alina.

“Of course not but your ancestors are a part of that few aren’t they?”

“Mother, may I remind you—” Nikolai’s voice was entirely ignored.

“Did my sacrifice not make up for those mistakes? Or would you prefer it stay permanent?”

“Why, that is an utterly outlandish question to ask! Of course I appreciate your actions for our country and that you managed to survive them.”

“Yet you still speak against Grisha as if their lives are worth—”

“Alright!” Nikolai shouted, slamming his fist on the table to get their attention. “I think that’s enough debate for the night. Shall we move on to lighter topics? Or will both of you manage to behave?”

Tatiana sniffed and went back to eating. Mal looked sheepish despite the fire still blazing in his eyes.

The dinner finished just as awkwardly, although the atmosphere was entirely changed. Mal managed to give the queen mother a formal goodbye without instigating anymore argument but Nikolai could tell he was still enraged by the set of his shoulders on the way back to their quarters.

“God, that woman,” Mal muttered once the door was closed and he began to undress. “Can’t believe I ever cared what she thought.”

“You cared what she thought?” Nikolai asked, surprised.

“Yeah, she is your family,” Mal pointed out. “Suppose I didn’t make for a good impression.”

Nikolai hummed. “Suppose not.”

“Sorry about that,” Mal said, settling his arms around Nikolai’s waist.

Nikolai shook his head. “You were right to be angry. She was acting ridiculous.”

Mal looked relieved at that, and leaned in to press a quick kiss to Nikolai’s lips. When they pulled away, Nikolai couldn’t help himself.

“Now how about we try our damndest to make an heir with a ruined bloodline?” he said.

Mal rolled his eyes and huffed a laugh. “You could just ask me to take you to bed like a normal person.”

“Where’s the fun in that?” Nikolai responded cheekily.

Mal’s response was to push him until he fell into the bed. It was probably supposed to be insulting, except that the follow-up was some very delightful kisses and a wonderful night together. So Nikolai let it go.

Hello hello, this is the polyamory anon again 😅 though this time it’s not about polyamory— this one’s a pretty self indulgent idea, so feel free to ignore if you’d like ^^

I was thinking about an angst idea— personally, I’m someone that gets jealous pretty easily (as much as Levi, perhaps) and is considerably insecure. I also have no self confidence and little pride— let’s say my MC is like that too— someone with those qualities but that acts (usually) extroverted and cheerful and energetic around others. However, Solomon’s also insecure and jealous, right? So I was thinking about my MC, though she loves him, pushing him to love someone else— another MC, perhaps?— saying that she wouldn’t be the best for him. That she wouldn’t be able to give him the proper love that he needs; she’s even more so insecure and prone to jealousy than he is— she’s not the right one for him. My MC would just want Sol to be happy :’) regardless of her heart breaking along the way

And then I realized I had little idea on what Solomon’s reaction would be. Would he fall in love with someone else (e.g., if there were for some reason multiple MCs in this scenario, another MC)?

Hello again, anon! I feel the need to say that I don't mind people sending me self indulgent ideas... because honestly, everything I write is self indulgent lol. So please don't worry, you can send me whatever ideas you like, self indulgent or otherwise! Also don't worry about length, I don't mind long asks, either! :)

Anyway, this is angsty and I had to think about it for a bit before I could formulate my thoughts!

And here's what I think. (Note this is all just my opinion based on how I see Solomon's character!)

Solomon is a smart man. He would see through your MC in two seconds flat. Even if your MC is normally very extroverted and cheerful and she maintains that personality even while she tries to push him away, I think he'd know what she was doing.

In the game, a lot of times Solomon does this thing where after MC chooses their dialogue option, he says something along the lines of "yeah I figured you would say that."

Because Solomon knows MC. Your MC is his adorable apprentice. He's been beside her for a lot of the story, teaching her magic and being the only human with her in the Devildom. He would know if she was trying to get him to fall in love with someone else.

How he reacts to this would depend on his own feelings at the time. For instance, if he was already in love with your MC, he would probably confront her about it directly. He would ask her why she's trying to push him toward someone else. And if she told him the truth - that she thinks he'll be happier with someone else - he will tell her that she's wrong. He will tell her that he loves her and that being with her is what would make him happiest.

Solomon is not the kind of guy to just give up on you because you've got some insecurities about your ability to love him properly. He would rather work through it with you than walk away.

It might go differently if he wasn't already in love with your MC. But honestly, I can't imagine that he wouldn't know that your MC is in love with him. And chances are he's already in love with her. So I have a hard time imagining a scenario in which your MC is in love with Solomon, but he's not already in love with her.

Where it gets tricky and potentially sad is when we consider the other person in this scenario. Let's say for a minute that your MC is MC1 and there's another MC, who is MC2. If both of them have a similar history with Solomon - his friends, his apprentices, etc - then he might end up having feelings for both of them.

If MC2 is not already in love with Solomon, but MC1 tries to push him toward them anyway, he would confront MC1 about it. Likely in this scenario, Solomon would reassure MC1 that he wants to be with her since she already loves him and he loves her, too.

If MC2 is also in love with Solomon and he has feelings for them, I think this is a scenario in which Solomon might give up on MC1. Especially if MC1 just continues to push him away, even after he confronts her about it. He wouldn't be happy about it. I think it'd hurt him very deeply to do this. It would hurt him not just because he would lose MC1, but because he would know that even if MC1 says she wants him to be with MC2, MC1 still loves him. He would know that it would be breaking MC1's heart. And I think that would break his heart, too.

I think the only other time he would give up is if MC1 just never gave in. If she continually refused him, over and over again, he might eventually have to walk away. However, I could also see him just being persistent for the rest of MC1's life, never giving up until death takes her.

So in the end, you either get a situation in which Solomon is too stubborn to let you push him away or you get a scenario in which Solomon does the only thing he thinks he can do, even if it crushes both of you. MC2 is the only person who potentially comes out unscathed, but even then they would know that Solomon was hurting, too. :(

Hopefully some of that makes sense. It's a bit rambling, but I think Solomon's reaction would vary depending on the circumstances. Though in each instance, he would confront your MC about why she was doing that. He would want to understand her reason. And most likely, he's already in love with her. He would probably tell her that he gets to decide who the right one for him is. And he would tell her that he has already chosen her.

I've binged this beautiful mess for several days and, by god, does it deliver! !!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Let me try going chronologically:

Zack!Cloud is absolutely adorable and shows very good acting because you can hear the difference from Zack's dialogue from Cloud's reaction when learning it's Nibelheim where they are heading to.

Definitely see those SephirothxZack fics going on rise after unsettlingly sweet expressions on Sephiroth during Nibelheim. Also those subtle changes on his face in that iconic town in flames scene, just wow.

Rufus's parade was one of the highlights, but some new guy Glenn shenaningans were there like "hello, if you'd like to know more about this subplot please consider buying some spinoff mobile game you've never heard of", because even in the end all I got from this was - Glenn is a) some dude in Wutai working for a man we never saw and who might not even exist, b) has some bitter history with Rufus and c) also is a Sephiroth clone.

Speaking of Rufus, eng voice actor is on point. He is the english equivalent of japanese voice actor who unfortunately seems to have been affected by illness. I'm very sad about that. But good job, eng va and his casting director!

While I'm on this topic, Reno's orignal va loss also saddens me. New jp va is a bit too nasal for me, and there's no Quinton Flynn to soften the blow.

Morikawa Toshiyuki is perfect as always in his rendition of Sephiroth. His gentle speech to Jenova in Nibelheim reactor is just... You just have to hear it.

Ahem. So, Rufus' offer in Junon really surprised me.

Moving on to Costa Del Sol, was nice to see the reason why Hojo appeared there of all places and, oh dear, they made him so creepy it's astounding. The way he so offhandedly and casually offered those girls to "birth a hero" is something else.

I'll skip Corel immediately to Golden Saucer. It's everything I wanted. It's everything I didn't know I wanted. The entrance introduction is Honey Bee all over again but even more cringe. There are no words for this level of cringe. I felt vindicated for the loss of that Honey Bee's bathtub scene in the Remake, that's how cringe it is. I'm sorry, I can't stop staring at Dio's chest.

Now, Cait Sith deserves its own paragraph. It's the best, the cutest, the coolest Cait Sith ever. This "Aeris-ha~n", awww. Loveless scene was astounding. I'm talking about animation quality here. Dance moves look so smooth and natural, especially cloth mechanics, just look at Jessie's skirt! I have no idea how many hours they put into these.

New Nibelheim also makes more sense than in original. No more "wdym, nothing happened here". Also, Cloud remembered Zack but his mind makes up some things.

It's nice to see Cloud's gradual descent into madness, especially with Roche becoming that. (Why SC tattoo though. I know it's probably Sephiroth Cells, but I just can't unsee SephirothxCloud, lmao). Cloud chasing Aerith for black materia sent chills down my spine.

that's interesting to hear you think your writing got worse! well, i can sort of understand that... for me, when i take a break from writing, sometimes it can feel a little difficult to get back into the groove of things... but i get what you mean a little about "writing for yourself." when you have no intention of sharing your work, sometimes specific details aren't necessary when your target audience is, well, yourself.

as for rereading my old stuff... i do actually reread a lot of my stuff, just not the ones from when i was like 16 LOL it's not because i don't wanting to read my "unserious" stories, it's more because i hate cringing at my old stylistic choices. i like to think ive gotten better at adopting writing styles that i think can make my stories flow smoother. but as a teen, i had trouble structuring my stories because i relied heavily on dialogue to move them. which... isn't a very sustainable approach LMAO but yeah churro chumps is still a story i will always cherish, because even after all this time... i do love me some sillay yoongay fanfics :3

In chapter 2 I forgot to add that Jean notices signs of Petechiae (Red dots on the skin/cheeks, usually present after crying) on Damon's face, which he points out in the narration and mentally ponders "maybe he is not holding on as well as we thought." I don't fucking KNOW how I did not add it because I remember writing it into the doc but I guess I accidentally deleted it???? What-fucking-ever man I am too tired to rewrite that scene. Also, this chapter would not work as well if Jean was a lot more aware about how badly Damon was holding on. Sooo, yeah. Good forethought past me question mark.

(Jean knows general medical stuff because of his job / he binge read about it after the Edward thing to avoid any other crewmates being ill / hurt. Kind of comes out of left field in this chapter sorry lol I kind of gave up mid-fic so the quality is kind of bad)

In the titanic argument I was planning for Damon to respond “The debate was so bad I regret doing it sober,” or something of the sort. To which Jean asks Holy Shit You Drink ? Ended up scrapped because Damon, even while sleep deprived, is way too secretive about his abuse personal life for his own good. Besides, the scene was getting too long.

Also, yes, he does drink (/hc). Not by own volition most of the time, but he does. Legal drinking age? What is that? The Maitsu family never heard of it. (Wolfgang would have a stroke if he knew nobody tell him)

I actually planned a bit where, when Damon bandages Jean's wound (it was planned to happen on the bed and not the floor btw), Jean explains the items™ to Damon after he points out the first aid kit being the debater's and Damon looks at the ship captain like he grew a third head. Hence, explanation.

It felt too forced and I ended up removing it. You probably can figure it out with the context I left (I HOPE), but here is the explanation just in case:

Jean received Edward’s marine dog tag, Damon received a first aid kit (and he's the only person in the killing game that has first aid equipment, fun). You can probably imagine why Jean reacted like that to seeing Damon’s item and his subsequent realization. Let's just say that Maitsudad was not kind.

I had a very lovely idea very late into this fic of playing on the concept of Dragons and snakes being very similar (in mythology/religion, anyways) but I couldn't figure out a way to include it organically in this fic (considering that the themes/metaphors of the fic were already too wonk as is) so I MIGHT get another Jean & Damon fic just to get that symbolism out of my head???

In the Damon panic attack from Jean’s POV, I had to scrap a small line where Jean notes that some of the nonsense Damon is spewing in his panic is actually Spanish. Another hc of mine, personally Damon looks like the kind of guy to throw Hispanic slang and insult all your family lineage in one breath (and yes I am biased because I am Hispanic how could you tell. But no, he is not Hispanic, it is actually kind of complicated to explain). I will probably delve into that hc and my general mental illness about the backstory I made up for the guy (yes I am very normal about Damon shut up) in another fic I have planned.

I had to scrap so many Damon lines y'all. He is just. So easy to write. This dude is like depressed 14 year old me trying to seem edgy and pretentious istg.

Info dumping

I don't think I am doing a fic of Jean alone to actually write this down so, here, have the whole Edward situation and my delusions about it: basically, back when Jean was just becoming a ship captain by himself (he probably started as a cadet/assistant of one of his relatives, who was the ship captain themselves. Jean then took the job from them later down the line, idk) at age 18ish, there was this regular crew he had. One of the people in said crew was Edward, an asshole with self-worth issues who made it everyone else's problem.

On one departure, they get news of a big-ass storm happening, and they are very much stuck in the middle of the sea trying to just survive it(tm). Luckily it was a cargo ship so the only people they had to look for were themselves, but still.

Edward decides to be the main man on everything to prove his worth, that he means something to the crew, that his life has meaning. Everyone was kind of ignoring Edward's self destructive behavior (not their issue, they said). Jean in turn decided to try to do something about it, so new into the position and wanting the best for his crew, so he went to talk to Edward so he hopefully realizes he is being a moron and stops playing the martyr.

Edward, as you can tell by this fic, does not heed Jean’s pleas to take care of himself and decides to spitefully double down on his self-destructiveness so hard he fell ass backwards and killed himself due to sleep deprivation and starvation the fucking idiot.

(His crew, who were in their late 20s to mid 50s and had already seen some shit™, took care of the corpse themselves. They didn't want Jean, as young as he was, to see the body. He saw it anyways, if only on passing. Which is also the reason why he was more inclined to believe Eva when seeing the dummy, but details)

Jean blames himself over pushing Edward “too hard” and causing his death. (While at the same time he feels like he could have done MORE to avoid his death back then, ain't guilt fun?) That's why he fears pushing Damon too much until there's nothing he can do but twist the debater's arm into actually resting after days of watching the younger consistently get worse. And, welp, we know how that ends.

At least he tried tho. 乁( •_• )ㄏ

Another thing. Was the buddy system actually chosen at random or was Damon right about it being rigged?

... Who knows! Lol

Logically speaking I think it would make more sense for it to either be rigged in the random pairings to get the most optimal-ish outcome (List of pairings in chapter 1 AAA), or like Akire actually bullshitted the random bit to try to get Damon to cooperate. But in the other hand it would be too fucking funny if it was actually made at random and Damon is just being unnecessarily hostile and antagonizing for no reason. So, I wrote it to be ambiguous! probably!! Go have your own interpretation idk!!

Other miscellaneous notes

Eva had the exact same "You are doing this to keep tabs on us" train of thought as Damon, but unlike the debater she decided to cooperate on the plan without whining about it. She and Ingrid have an amazing time playing Dos in their dorm.

Desmond is having a shit time because he wants to help Ulysses have a, at least, decent sleep schedule since they are partners. They have a similar ish arc to Damon and Jean funnily enough, except all the trauma and accidental PTSD triggering.

The Titanic bit is actually a thing that happened. A dude legit predicted the Titanic it is bonkers (I learned this thanks to 999 and thought it would be funny to add it because sleep deprived Damon likes to info dump (yes I am neurodivergent how could you tell) and Jean is the fucking Ultimate Ship Captain what better chance can you get?). Also yes ships back then were bonkers it is hilarious.

When Jean returns with food after this fic him and Damon sit down to explain to the latter all the things he missed in the class meetings so Damon is not running with fake facts again (and hopefully avoid other panic attacks about it in the future). They are forced to communicate about being partners and while they are both still very emotionally stunted because of their respective traumas they at least have a semi-honest conversation for once. Mostly because Damon is too tired and worn-down to be antagonistic.

The roommate system prooobably gets ruled out at the week two and a half(?) by a very frustrated Tozu, but by then he will need a very strong/kill or die motive to actually get a crack on the partner system itself (which is too broad a concept for him to actually rule out the game entirely).

(Realistically speaking he probably would deny the system from happening as quickly as it was brought up because he would notice it as a liability to his killing game plan, but then again. This is fic. I like my Tozu very stupid in fic)

Damon slowly starts reintegrating back into the group when he feels less like "Hi I just had 4 panic attacks in a week what is life at this point." Jean personally helps him in it.

Damon doesn't exactly remember what happened when he was triggered (bcs I hc him to forget trauma to cope, only vaguely remembering things when triggered / having intrusive thoughts). He remembers stabbing Jean because of a "overreaction" on his part and that's pretty much it. He feels like garbage about it but doesn't know how to apologize.

Thankfully, the wound was very minimal so nobody really noticed it after the bleeding stopped and Jean removed the bandages. It is their shared secret that nobody shall know about.

After chapter 1 Damon has a 10 minute panic attack, call himself cringe for it, and forces himself to go for the futon. You could hear him cursing out to all the gods throughout the living quarters. Like La Llorona but it is a dude swearing instead.

Jean brings Damon food. From things like granola bars to small portions of meals (to avoid any accidental refeeding syndrome), every time Jean goes out, he brings Damon something to eat. The others question it at first but Jean only gives vague explanations so they give up (they know, somewhat. But it is not their business so they don't push about it).

Damon has never had anyone offer comfort or food without a catch to it so he is very confused to the whole ordeal but too tired to actually complain (he still compulsively checks everything, afraid of poison, despite never being any).

after a bit he actually somewhat warms up to the ship captain !! Yaaay Damon getting comfort !!!! Finally !!!!!

Writing this my entire thought process of Damon's characterization was "abused stray cat that hisses / scratches you but all it wants is love and a stable living environment and once it has it and gets used to it, it is actually very cuddly." That's just him in a nutshell. Just add some asshole pretentious vibes into the mix & you're done

I made Edward up very late (writing session 8 out of 10) into chapter 2 because I needed a reason as to why Jean would physically force Damon to sleep. When I said the man is a plot device I meant it lol

Tozu had a Live Tozu Reaction to Jean's and Damon's fight thinking that fINAlLY SOMEONE IS DYING.. And then nobody did. Oop.

I’m so frustrated with those interviews… It always lacks depth, barely scratches the surface. I want to know more, I want more substance. I wish the interviewer would ask better questions or try to push a bit more, it’s just lazy work every time.

Again on this topic about Jungkook wanting to be bigger and cool : while I understand what he means by being bigger, you explained it well, I would also love to know what it’s like for him to be "cool". Does he have a role model in mind? is it about a specific image he wants to achieve? Why is it so important for him? Right now it just sounds a bit shallow and superficial and not a very clear goal that could be reached for. Being bigger as an artist can be objectively quantified, with BB charts sales numbers, radio spins, awards and so on (though we could discuss that…). Being cool, on the other hand, is something that you end up being, almost accidentally? For me it sounds as weird as saying I would like to be seen as a humble person, for eg. You don’t get to define yourself as so, it’s one of those qualities that it’s up to others to determine if you are or not, how can it be something you reach for, especially if you verbalize it so loudly? I don’t think it’s something you can work towards. It’s too subjective, not like you have to tick certain boxes and then that’s it, here you are, a cool guy lol. It’s a consequence of your personality, your actions, not a goal. Or am I being too obtuse? I know I tend to be lol English isn’t my first language so I’m struggling to put my thoughts into words.

I’m just a bit skeptical because the goals he’s setting for himself seem too vague and an easy way to getting lost. It almost sounds like a dead end to me. I’ve always find him cool, and paradoxically now the more he’s saying he wants to be like this bla-bla-bla, the less I’m perceiving him that way. It’s like when a person you admire or your love interest for eg says something and suddenly they start to lose their aura/magic. It’s like a turn off. Sorry, I’m being a bit too harsh. Hey different anon! Yeah, these interviews are always pretty boring. Unless Jungkook or the members develop their thoughts they won't be asked follow up questions. I think the interviewers choose not to push them sometimes, even without the language barrier. RM and Suga often give good interviews where they get asked interesting questions, but perhaps interviewers expect less of the other members? In the sense that they don't know whether to push them or not, so they choose not to?

Hmm, I get what you mean, but I think Jungkook's "cool" isn't exactly the English "cool". If you know a little of Korean you probably know the word he's using, which he's used to express what he wanted his legacy as BTS to be. He once said he wanted people to look back at BTS and say "they were cool" (or something like that). "Cool" is kind of an all-encompassing word that means good and enjoyable, in a simple, digestible way, and not necessarily smooth, charming, cold, and other ideas related to "coolness". It's like Jungkook just wants people to remember BTS fondly, like it's enough to be an artist that people enjoy in a very simple, comfortable way, even if it's just one song or performance. Rather than iconic, once in a lifetime group, I guess he just wants BTS to be a group people look back on and say "BTS? Oh, I remember them, they were cool". I don't know, it's simple and innocent, and actually not that ambitious?

On the other hand, Jungkook has always talked about wanting to become a cooler performer and show cooler performances. In fact, that's something all idols says. But it still raises the question of what a cooler performer and performance means to him. We know he's usually a bit dissatisfied after he performs and that he feels like he's lacking in many ways. We also know he wants to look sharp, mature, sexy, powerful, and that's surely part of becoming "cooler" - it's like he wants to become his ideal self and be less Jungkook. I remember Jungkook saying he loves the Seven choreo because it's cool, while I personally find it weak and basic. But it's laid back and "sexy", and he thinks that kind of performance is cool.

Jungkook is very hyperactive and kpop is very excessive. It sounds like maybe Jungkook wants to tone it down, make his performances look more approachable and "effortless" (other concepts related to being "cool"). Maybe this all comes down to his maknae image and not wanting it to limit him, or to be perceived that way forever? So Jungkook becoming cooler is becoming someone who can surprise people and put on laid back performances that look effortless? I'm, once again, reminded of Bieber. I think Jungkook very much admires him and thinks he's a cool performer. He mentioned enjoying him at the Grammys although Bieber didn't dance or do anything special. Jungkook is someone who wears his heart on his sleeve, and maybe he wants to be colder, cooler, and not the goofy cutie we see him as. I can relate to that tbh, because I feel stupid sometimes because I'm too smiley and openly emotional.

Maybe it's not shallow, maybe it's coming from a place of insecurity? We know that, despite recent improvements, Jungkook isn't actually a very confident person, but he's trying to become someone he can be proud of - his ideal self - and, to him, that is simply someone "cool". A cool artist, a cool performer, a cool person. Maybe Jungkook doesn't really know how to express the image he has in his head any better than this? But, yeah, I also disagree with what I think his idea of cool is. And just like the ambition to become "bigger", it's not really an attainable goal. You can always climb higher, in theory. Will there ever be a point at which Jungkook feels like he's "cool enough"? It's doubtful.

So, yeah, I get your skepticism about Jungkook wanting to become "cooler" and how that makes him less cool, but it's not really about being pretentious. I think Jungkook really feels like he's lacking and wants to become a cooler artist, in every sense of the word, but I do feel like he's getting stuck on the idea of coolness being sexiness, manliness, nonchalance.

I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT JIN'S EMAIL TO HER IN TEK 4 LMAO orz I'm sorry. But yeah I agree with you. I also think he didn't tell her all the details likely for those reasons. But he told her enough to warn her and give her an idea of what kind of person Heihachi was. Which makes her attitude in Tekken 5 all the more confusing. I'm guessing Jin was so confused because he swore he had told her Heihachi was a pos, still does and yet here she is trying to go back in time lol. I think that's the game where things start to get worse with the writing. Granted Tekken has never had top writing but still. It actually makes me a bit sad because I was introduced to the games with 5 and I'm very fond of it (bc nostalgia but anyway)

A lot of shit happens in the Tekken series, and it makes it easier to forget it when the game's plagued with inconsistent writing. Hell, there are many things forgotten or straight up misconceptions within the fandom. (Many people still believe Kazuya made a deal with the devil to not die as a kid, but that only happened in the OVA) HELL, even I sometimes forget certain things, and I end up making headcanon posts that don't comply to canon just because I forgot about something. 😅

I looked it up for more info regarding the "email" Jin sent, according to some sources (such as the PAL version of the manual) Jin told her he suspected Heihachi was gonna have her assassinated...? Whiiich unsure if that's just a mistranslation from the PAL edition or not because I don't see why Heihachi would do that. He did it to Jin because Jin was no longer of use, he never cared about Jin, and Jin has the devil gene. But Xiao hasn't really done anything to warrant an assassination, unless Heihachi feared she'll uncover the truth regarding Jin's disappearance, and turn on him. But again, I'm unsure if this is true, or if the PAL version just added more because they thought "dangers" was too vague, or assumed that's what it meant when talking about the dangers. But who knows, we all also know how wonky the official translations of the series can be.

There's also a lot of issues with time travel. Such as, even if Xiao had succeeded, it'd be a possibility that Jin would've never been born. (After all, Jun only met Kaz due to his shady treatment of wildlife animals). But I won't delve too much into this just because it's just a silly story that means little. I don't even know how canon it is, considering that Xiao's ending in general isn't canon I don't think. Time travel, I'm pretty sure, is still not something that can canonically be done in the lore LOL.

Oh, Tekken 5 may be my favorite Tek game. (It's in the top three along with Tek3 and Tag 2) But I also very much enjoy Tekken 6 and we all know how I feel regarding its story. Basically, Tekken games can be very fun but not have the story that matches their quality of gameplay LOL. And I belieeeeve I wrote here very recently that 5 was the start of the atrocious writing. Although Jin was still relatively in character in 5, it did set up his villain arc with the ending. Xiao was flanderized to hell as we've discussed. Characters that didn't have joke endings before now have them (see Heihachi and Lei, probs more that I'm not thinking about rn) which set up the premise of not taking most of the cast seriously. (Tek7 DEFINITELY had an issue with most endings being pointless and comedic) So yeah, whilst Tek5 wasn't as bad as Tek6 in terms of story, it was suffering symptoms of it. Like a pre-illness or something LOL.

Tek3 was actually the first I was introduced to. My brothers CLAIMED we played Tek5 as kids because we rented it before when it was new...? But oddly I have like ZERO memories of it. I only remember playing Tek3, Tag 1, and Tek4. Which I played Tek4 very little because as a kid, I saw the limited amount of characters and thought "why would I play this when I can play Tag 1 with LOTS of characters...?" xD

If you think he would keep you out of all his pranks, you are terribly mistaken. If anything, most of them become focused on you. It's how he shows he cares. :p Sure you’d be subject to more of his pranks, but he’ll also be prone to getting you more things, during his little “errand runs”.

He’d grab little things that remind him of you, especially from the botanical garden. No one would mind if 2 little flowers went missing…everyday…

Growing up he learned to be resourceful, and that gifts don’t have to be so expensive. It truly is the thought that counts.

He’d love to spend quality time with you, using all of his free time without Leona to be beside you. He’d be over at the Ramshackle dorm quite a lot, and he’d befriend the ghosts extremely easily, they bond over making fun of poor Grim.

There are a few occasions where Ruggie is the one who’s flustered, as I take him to be the kind of guy aniciating most of the flirting, but as soon as you decide to turn the tables, he’s a stuttering mess, acting as if his face isn’t as red as Riddle’s hair. He’ll try to act collected and cool about it but his body is betraying him, and he can’t stop laughing awkwardly.

After every sentence its “pshhhihihehehe!”

You find it adorable lol. Afterwards he’ll act as if nothing happened, and he’ll go back to his teasing self. Ruggie’s not one to trust others easily, and he doubts that you’ll ever feel the same as he’s never been in that sort of situation, so he’s pretty casual about it I guess. If someone from Savanaclaw asks if he likes you, he’ll just nod and be like, “mhm, yeah. now move outta the way, Leona wants his sandwich.”

This will lead to rumors spreading around pretty fast. So you being well, you. As well as a lot of pushing from Ace, Deuce, and Grim, decide to ask him if it’s true.

And to your surprise, it is.

“Oh… that, yeah eheheh. It’s true.” He’d chuckle, sticking his hands in his pocket. He’d seem kinda embarrassed, but not so much as to the point of passing out, his face is slightly red due to the confrontation however.

“Sorry if the guys have been bothering you about it, they’re idiots. And don’t feel pressured by them or me. I know you don’t feel the same-“

He was cut off by you latching onto him, burying your head in the crook of his neck, “…I like you too, you’re the idiot.”

“……….huh…?”

He’s so confused. “What? Why? When? How? WHAT?”

You’ll just smile and explain in whichever way you’d like, leading to laughs from the both of you. But to be honest, Ruggie’s probably not listening 100%, he’s just daydreaming about you. And how that you, his crush, likes him back.

Jack

He’s always flustered around you. It’s quite obvious that he likes you, but you don’t seem to notice, thinking that that’s just how he is. Everyone is visually facepalming.

He’d be totally normal, but then if you walked into the classroom, he’d just stop talking, his eyes fixed on you as a red hue seemed to spread across his face.

He'd never notice that he was staring, it just happened. It could be in the middle of spell drive practice, and he’d see you standing off to the side cheering for his team, and he’d just freeze, allowing the disk to hit him in the head, resulting in a trip to the nurse.

You’d be one of the first ones there, waiting from him to wake up, “Oh! Jack! Are you okay!? What happened-? AHH. JACK! GUYS HELP! HE PASSED OUT AGAIN!”

It would take a lot of Leona’s time to calm you down saying that he’s okay, rolling his eyes at how oblivious you were. After that whole incident, Jack would find the courage to talk to you and bow in front of your entire class apologizing for that day, and that he scared you.

“Oh, it’s fine, Jack, really! I’m just glad that you’re now okay!”

“Uh, yea- mhm, yes, thanks,” he’d quickly stutter out quietly, still in a bow position, face trained on the floor.

Now i’m not saying he wouldn’t be able to talk to you at all, quiet the opposite actually, he’d hang around Ramshackle with you, ace, deuce, and grim a lot, mainly cause he keeps getting dragged into things with y’all. But he doesn’t mind, it’s fun, and you get to see a much more calm side of Jack, that everyone else is familiar with.

You’d notice his tail wagging as you two were talking, but you decided not to bring it up as you didn’t want him to feel embarrassed from the guys. But they noticed too, they’d have their own inside joke about it-

Now as for how he’d finally confess, it’s more as he doesn’t. The guys just get so tired of y’all’s bs and just flat out say it one day while you’re hanging out at Ramshackle.

“Mhm, remember when we first found out that Jack likes y/n?” Ace teased.

“Oh yeeeeah…” Deuce smirked looking at the two of you.

Both of your faces were red.

Grim wasnt able to control his laughter, and Jack was too shy to even yell at them.

“I uh…” His palm was rubbing the back of his neck, as his ears were drooping.

Everyone was shocked to hear you laughing, smiling extremely brightly, leaving Jack in a daze.

“We’ll it’s a good thing I like you too!”

“FINALLY!” Ruggie yelled, popping out from who knows where.

“Took you long enough,” Leona sighed.

“Where the hell did you both come from?” Deuce questioned.

Ruggie smiled “Don’t worry about it~”

You were still laughing at the whole scene, and Jack had an actual smile on his face, fascinated by all that was you.

Leona

He’d let you get away with so much stuff, more so than Ruggie. It honestly scares everyone, but there’s certain students that use it for their advantage-

You’d cover for them if they needed help, mainly if Leona was gonna be close to killing them, you’re literally their ace in their sleeve. But they knew not to overdo it, as it would stop working after a while.

You and Ruggie were the only ones who could get close to Leona on certain occasions, man, even Ruggie needed your help sometimes though.

Like if Leona just would NOT get up, and there was an important test that was worth 50% of your grades, you were the only one who could wake him without being pummeled. He’d still be grouchy, but it’s nowhere near how bad it would be if it was someone else.

“Why the hell did you wake me up, Herbivore?”

“We have a quiz, Kitty.”

That nickname drove him crazy, but he didn’t exactly hate it… You could only say it when you were alone though, not even Ruggie could hear it. Leona’s made that part clear.

Just like Ruggie, he wouldn’t be all that secretive about how he felt, and he wouldn’t take any bs about it. If someone even mentioned it or asked, well, let’s just say they shouldn’t. But even though, at first he just denied it, he thought there was no way he could like a herbivore like you, romantically. But he kept dreaming about you, and your smile, and your laugh, and how you would scold people, unfazed by any size or age difference. That’s one of the things he liked about you, you didn’t back down.

Sure it was entertaining for him, but sometimes it was a pain in his ass. You didn’t let him get away with as many things as Leona did. But it was funny seeing you stop arguments between the Savanaclaw students, seeing there was no need for him to intervene.

The students knew not to mess with you, as one, you were hard headed, and two, they’d have to deal with Leona too.

Nobody knew if you were dating or not, cause it kinda seemed like you were… but like not?

You acted like an old married couple honestly, both of you just going back and forth angry, then pretending nothing happened and chilling together in the garden or in either the Ramshackle dorm or Savanaclaw. It wasn’t strange to see you both cuddling slightly, dead asleep. And everyone knew better than to question it. Even Ruggie, but you would sometimes catch him laughing about it, right before your mind went black and you’d fallen asleep under the same tree as the other prefect.

Leona’s never been one for labels, but Ruggie does mention how it would put you a bit more at ease if he’d at least had some sort of conversation about it.

And he did.

It wasn’t anything drastic, but it was just him letting you know that you mean a lot to him, those however weren’t his exact words. Nonetheless, he cared. And he would make sure that you knew it.

“Stupid, Herbivore.”

“Mhmmm, but you love meeee.” you dragged out every word slightly.

All he did was groan, as you fell asleep, seeing that, he chuckled, “Yeah. I do.”
