Ok this was a bit obvious to be the first but just imagine the possibilities of annoyance together with headache and fierce sarcasm he'd spit through that sassy and egotistical mouth of him. Yes. He'd ate all my arguments like he ate the show.

Michael

His story, background and character development are stunning, yet he's so hardheaded I would definitely argue with him all day.

Rose

I love her, like a lot, yet she's so stubborn I'm sure we'd throw hands at the end or roll over with laughter because how stupid everything is, there's no in between.

Jack

He has that pretty privilege that allows him to be so… him. Well, I really like how complex he is and appreciate his role a lot, yet please I want -no, I need- to refute every single logical thing mixed with one hundred childhood traumas he says every two seconds.

Sayid

He's so hot in that mysterious and problematic way, I'd say yes to every incompetence he'd make, because he does that a lot, then fight against him again for doing so.

Jin

Probably the most handsome man on earth, yet so easy to tease. Understanding his character was a roller coaster ride of emotions but he's just a huge grumpy teddy bear in adult format, and such a good person despite it all.

Kate

I think she's one of the best charismas on the show, even if she has still so much to unpack inside. We'd have girls talk at night while doing arms workout or stop talking for months, that's how I see it.

Sawyer

He's one of the funniest characters ever on tv history, yet he can be so cocky and arrogant sometimes I wouldn't doubt to annoy him and oh a bit of romance tension oh what a pity.

Charlie

Even if in the show was already older than me now, he'd be like the little brother I've never had: funny, cute and annoying af. I love him a bunch and I don't think I could stand being angry at him like yes king whatever.

Juliet

She's like the perfect mix of cold and warm, logics and emotions. I don't think I could argue with her but rather have an intense discussion about a specific topic and then realice we both think the same.

Miles

He serves cunt after cunt after cunt. That's why we'd have cunty discussions sometimes.

John

He's crazy in the best way possible. I think I'd simply disagree with him to see how he reacts and then say it's ok you're right as always.

Danielle

I'd be that friend that believes every single craziness that she says and would definitely blindly supportive because how much I love this woman.

Sun

She's just so calm and fierce at the same time, every second she's on screen I'm happier than before and she deserves everything muah queen.

Desmond

He's so passionate about everything he does I'd definitely kiss him in that gorgeous hair of him and scream yes brother.

Hurley

episode 9: 1978 to 1991

okay, so obviously i know the next couple of episodes are going to be mostly main character flashbacks.

the order is the most interesting though because they all seem within 3-4 years in age:

(as children) Sayid -> Juliet -> Jack -> Miles -> Mr. Eko -> Daniel -> Sun -> Mr. Eko again -> Charlie -> Kate

(around Charlie and Kate it started feeling very mid- to late-80s, but as usual there’s no timestamps so i can’t be sure)

then a brief cut to the Sawyer-Juliet-Miles group during one of the first rapid flashes.

oh right and i totally forgot this would be when Danielle wrecks on the island-which is funny because it means Jin is about to pop up up but back to barely knowing any english and just being generally pretty confused, so cute. hanging out with them for a while in 1988 (finally got a date!!)

currently cracking up because 9/10 scenes are from the beginnings of episodes so i just keep seeing the names pop up over and over.

omg a ben flashback! (it’s when he takes Alex tho :/ )

so now we’re up to Sayid as an adult and i’m wondering if that was all the flashbacks of anyone as a kiddo. if so, there were a lot less than i thought. also i guess Sayid is a little older than i thought.?

give this episode a 7.5/10. i definitely felt more interested and invested (it helped that it showed my faves).

rewatching with elsie and – something i noticed is that on this particular rewatch, my two least favorite episodes actually turned out ... kind of being my favorites! in terms of drama and how disturbing they were to me. ep three having the u.s. marshal's slow death is just really painful to watch. and jack not putting him out of his misery is just cruel. and in episode eight, sayid torturing the shit out of sawyer, everyone blaming him when they didn't even bother to truly ask about the inhaler? makes me so upset on his behalf!! and sawyer's antagonized and self-destructive so ofc he's going to play this role everyone's pushed on to him. idk, i just think these two specific incidents were so boring to me before but watching them in a new light with someone else really changed the way i view them. which is why i love watching this show with another person, bc i get to see other opinions and possibly even change some of my own! i thought sawyer's character was going to be a lot harder to swallow this entire first season, but he really kills it in episode eight. sayid was in my favs list but he kinda pissed me off doing that so ... not feeling too hot about him now.

currently, i think my favorite characters are : michael, sawyer, locke, charlie, hurley, shannon, and sun. i'm liking claire a lot here too! she's sweet. jack can go fuck himself for all i care and kate annoys me so <3 the whole A Team / B Team is just really a thing this season and it's so fun to watch how it grows and manifests. i'll have to touch upon that sometime. i absolutely cannot wait for my man ben, but i'm also excited for desmond !!!! juliet! miles!!! EKO!! so many fun characters we don't get to meet for a while. so, this rewatch is super fun and it's ... honestly the most fun i've had in a long time. that being said, i may make a little tag for it bc i already know i'll have more thoughts in the future lol. oh, yeah. and i've already cried like ... three times watching the first ten episodes. this show really gets me like no other.

Defending the women of LOST/Sexism in LOST

People say they don’t like Kate Austen because she’s “annoying” “can’t choose between Jack and Sawyer” “always wants to join every single mission”. Kate has way bigger things to worry about than sorting out her romantic feelings. Yes, she is developing feelings for both Jack and Sawyer, but she doesn’t have time to figure them out while trying to survive on the island. And the fact that people don’t like her because of the whole “I’m coming with you” thing is a little ridiculous, because they’re hating Kate for wanting to protect her friends and do whatever she can to help. You know who else does that? Jack. But plenty of people love him for those very same reasons. Yeah, a lot of Kate’s character was centered around the love triangle, but that isn’t the character’s fault, it the writers’s.

Then there’s Claire Littleton. People always complain about her “my baby!” thing, but... she only actually says that a few times, AND, if your child was taken from you or you thought your child was going to be hurt, wouldn't you be worried out of your mind? Wouldn’t you want to do anything to help them? People also criticize Claire for her entire Season 6 arc. She was alone, on the island, thinking everyone had abandoned her, with only the MIB for company. She was also tortured by the temple Others, who she thought had taken her child. Claire was a single mother who just wanted to keep her son safe, give her a break. 

Sun-Hwa Kwon is a character who actually doesn’t receive that much hate, but there is still the fact that people don’t like her because she left Ji Yeon to go back to the island for Jin. Here’s the thing: Sun had no way of knowing what was would happen on the island. She had no way of knowing that Jin had time traveled to the past, and she had no way of knowing what would happen with the MIB/Locke. She thought that she would be able to go to the island, bring Jin and the others back, and the two of them would reunite with Ji Yeon. And then in the submarine incident, Sun didn't want Jin to stay. She wanted him to live and take care of Ji Yeon. It was Jin who made the decision to die with her, not Sun.

Shannon Rutherford is a very unlikable character. Even I don’t enjoy her character, or Boone, and that is a view shared by many other people in the fandom. Many people call her selfish, spoiled, and just plain rude. And she was all of those things, but that wasn’t her entire character. Remember, they had all just been through a plane crash, landed on an island with no chance of rescue. Also, friendly reminder that she was only 20 years old. She was scared, and her way of coping with that was to try to do something normal. Let’s not forget, in Pilot, Part 2, she volunteered to go on the mission to fix the transceiver. She was constantly feeling useless, and it didn’t help that other characters, especially Boone, were constantly putting her down and mocking her. When she started to see Walt, she genuinely made an attempt to help him, even though she wasn’t sure if he was even there. Her death was untimely, and I wished we had gotten to see her grow more as a person. Also, her death was used for shock value and to further Sayid’s character development.

And now, one of the most hated characters of LOST, Ana Lucia Cortez. Now, while the characters I mentioned above were shit on and criticized, Ana Lucia was absolutely hated by the fandom. People hated her attitude, her toughness, her dislike of most of the people around her, and the fact that she killed Shannon (who, by the way, was just as disliked by many Ana Lucia haters). You know who else has a similar attitude? Who has that same toughness and dislike of people? Who else killed someone? That would be Sawyer, a fan-favorite, white male character who is beloved by the fandom. Now, for the last point, what I am comparing here is Ana Lucia killing Shannon to Sawyer killing the man he thought was Frank Sawyer in Australia, right before flight 815. Ana Lucia killed Shannon because she was trying to protect the people she was leading (including Sawyer!) from who she thought was the Others, and killing Shannon was an accident. Sawyer killed the man completely on purpose and out of revenge. Oh, and it wasn’t even the right person. Yes, I am aware of the man Ana killed long before flight 815 out of revenge, but if we can take her very small amount of character development, in which she refused to kill Henry Gale, a known Other at that point. Whereas Sawyer was still willing to kill a bunch of people in Season 6, the end of his character arc. And yet, Sawyer is still in most people’s top five characters lists (just to be clear, I do not hate Sawyer at all, and this is not anti Sawyer but pro Ana Lucia). You may argue that people love Sawyer because of his character development, which I do agree with. However, Ana Lucia was never given the chance to have Sawyer-like character development because she was killed off in the same season that she was introduced in. She wasn’t even allowed to be in the church in the flash-sideways, and she didn’t get to “move on.” Ana Lucia deserved way better than the death for shock value that she got.

Next up on the list is Juliet Burke. She, like Sun, also isn’t the target of a lot of hate, but there are still things that need defending. The first thing is, of course, her sudden change of mind when it came to detonating the hydrogen bomb in Season 5. Yes, it was selfish of her to endanger everyone on the island just because of the way Sawyer looked at Kate. But if the plan did actually work, which she thought it would, that meant she would lose everything she had gained over the past few years, including Sawyer. Juliet is incredibly kind and feminine while also being badass at the same time, which is amazing because you don’t usually see those two traits coinciding (usually a badass character isn’t very feminine and a “traditionally feminine” character isn’t a good fighter). As for all of her motives in Season 3, Juliet was trapped on the island for three years. All she wanted to do was leave and go home to her sister. Yes, she manipulated Sun, but right after that, she made things right by helping Jack make a plan to stop the Others. Her death was heroic, and I’m glad she was finally able to be happy in the flash-sideways. (I am declining to mention her whole relationship with Goodwin and all the drama with Ben, although I might dive into that in another post). 

Now, the character Rose Nadler has almost nothing that needs to be defended. She is a constant wise voice of reason who isn’t concerned with the drama of the rest of the survivors. Her relationship with her husband Bernard is very sweet, but she doesn’t let that stop her from doing the smart thing (like stopping his SOS sign idea). Not only that, but Rose has one of the best (and most meta) lines on the show: “If you say live together, die alone to me, Jack, I’m going to punch you in the face.”

Another character who doesn't need much defending is Charlotte Lewis, but not for the same reason as Rose. Charlotte was done dirty by the writers. Of the science team, she is the least fleshed out and explored. She had a single flashback and a little bit of exposition information from Ben, but that’s pretty much it. Every significant thing she did was for the sake of other characters. She had a fake-out death so Ben would reveal that he had a spy on the boat. She was taken to the Barracks so that members of Jack’s group would have a reason to go there. Her going to the Barracks was also an excuse to get Miles and Kate there. And she only died/was dying for shock value, to up the stakes of the time flashes, to provide more questions to the characters and the audience, and to further Daniel’s character development. In the flash-sideways, all she did was go on a date with Sawyer and further his character development. She didn't get to go to the church and move on. Daniel and Miles, the other members of her team, on the other hands were given compelling backstories and centric episodes.

Penelope Widmore is similar to Charlotte in that there isn’t much to defend because she doesn’t do much that affects the plot. Nearly everything she does is about Desmond, and the writers barely even gave her a personality. I’m sure Penny was an actually interesting person, if they had bothered her to give her any storyline that didn't involve her love interest.

Danielle Rousseau is a character that kind of slides in and out of the story as needed. Now, Danielle isn’t the subject of a lot of criticism just because she isn’t very focused on, but from what I have seen, here’s what I have to say: Danielle was alone on the island for sixteen years. And for sixteen years, she had to live with the knowledge that she was forced to kill the man she loved and her team. Not to mention the fact that her daughter, Alex, was taken away from her when she was just a week old. Can you blame Danielle for being paranoid? Her death was not a fair end to the character, and it was only used to kill off Danielle quickly and provide shock value.

Her daughter, Alex Rousseau, is similar to Charlotte and Penny in that she doesn’t need to be defended because everything she does is to affect other characters. In this case, those characters are Ben and Danielle (especially Ben in the later seasons). Danielle’s entire character is centered around the fact that she lost Alex and has been searching for her, and Ben’s motivations after Season 4 are largely motivated by Alex’s death. She herself doesn’t have much of a character arc, and her death was only to provide shock value and further Ben’s character development.

Another character that falls into the category of not having much to defend because every action is for someone else is Libby Smith. Once the tailies and the main survivors joined together, she was almost immediately shoved in a relationship with Hurley. The only things we knew about her backstory were that her husband died, she was a clinical psychologist, she was in the same mental hospital as Hurley, and she gave Desmond a boat. That’s it. She didn’t have a centric episode, and she only appeared in other people’s flashbacks. Her death was only to provide shock value and further Hurley’s character development, as well to show that Michael betrayed the survivors. 

Notice how many of these women died for shock value and/or to further a man’s character development? Notice how many of these women are disliked for traits that other characters are loved for? Notice how many of them barely exist as their own character without a man? I love LOST, I really do, but their treatment of female characters needed a lot of improvement.

the best and worst books i read in school!

ever since 5th grade, i’ve been reading novels in school. with the end of high school looming (and today being the last day of classes), i’ve decided to list the ultimate show stoppers and the bird droppers. let’s begin! :D

the best of 5th grade- maniac magee! i don’t remember much about it besides the twinkie things (which actually exist at walmart!) and shipping maniac and the girl character. my 5th grade teacher reading it made it so much better :D we also read ‘chains’, which is about a slave girl names isabel going to freedom. it’s a very powerful book and the sequel, ‘forge’, which is about a freed soldier boy named curzon, is just as amazing! ‘esperanza rising’, the story of a girl named esperanza who moves from mexico to california during the great depression, is pretty great too from what i remember!

the worst of 5th grade- idk what else we read in 5th grade besides those three (technically four) books. it could’ve been an iconic book year! (it was already an iconic school year)

the best of 6th grade- drums, girls and dangerous pies! it’s an interesting story of a high schooler named steve dealing with a crush and his little brother’s cancer, yet there’s actually a happy ending! the end is really iconic since steve says ‘i-’ to his brother jeff and it’s clearly ‘i love you’ but it cuts off! bonus points to ‘the cay’, a story of a boy named phillip who ends up on a raft with a man named timothy and a cat named stew cat. it’s a neat adventure and timothy saying ‘malar!’ is an earworm of a phrase

the worst of 6th grade- HOLY FRICK ‘THE HATCHET’ IS THE MOST BORING BOOK EVER WRITTEN!!! it’s about this kid who gets stranded in the forest and there’s this skunk pal, so you’d think it would be like ‘the cay’ BUT IT’S NOT IT’S SO FREAKING DULL OMG!!!! bonus points to ‘the gadget’ which starts out cool BUT THEN THE MAIN CHARACTER(also called steve!)’S FRIEND ALEXI TURNS OUT TO BE A SPY AND TRIES STABBING HIM LIKE WOAH THESE KIDS ARE ELEVEN YEARS OLD STOP DOING THAT WTF!!!! if you thought the double digit chapter was bad... oh boy! also ‘boy in the striped pajamas’ was good but very depressing! :(

the best of 7th grade- tom sawyer! this is about a boy and his southern adventures. it was a great story, but the movie is one of my fave live action movies ever!! they say the book is better than the movie but the movie is miles better and it’s so cute!!! bonus points to ‘the giver’, which is about a boy named jonas who meets an old man who shows him life in a better world (and there’s a baby). jonas and the giver were very sweet together and i love how jonas and the baby escape their dystopian society at the end!

the worst of 7th grade- call of the wild! it’s about a sled dog named buck who goes on a wild adventure in the arctic. it’s not a bad book, but the movie was so cheesy and it focused on the humans WHY THO???

the best of 8th grade- the outsiders! it’s about a greaser named ponyboy who runs away with his friend johnny after johnnycake kills a soc named bob. pb and the other greasers were such great characters and the story was so interesting! i also liked how the story is set in tulsa, where my grandpa lived. the outsiders fandom is a lot of fun and i’m so glad the story became one of my faves! :D bonus points go to ‘the diary of anne frank’, which we only read the play, so i sought out the whole book and wow anne’s story is so tragic and inspiring! more bonus points to ‘the good earth’, which is about a man in china and has an awesome movie to it (despite having white actors) and ‘twelfth night’, which is a funny shakespeare play about a girl named viola who disguses herself as a man named cesario. it’s full of romance, laughter and a hot feste singing voice (in the 1987 audiobook at least). and olivia is definitely bi ;)

the worst of 8th grade- animal farm! it’s about an orwell dystopian society (hmm...) but in a barn with animals. it’s not bad, but many of the animals were jerks except old major and the 1999 movie we watched was so cringy! (and the beasts of england song was changed which wasn’t cool)

the best of 9th grade-  the odyssey! it’s the ancient greek story of odysseus, a soldier who goes on an epic adventure to get home. the book was alright, but the movie was awesome and the movie ‘o brother where art thou’ (which is based on the story) is really great too! harrison burgeron, a dystopian society with a bad boi, was awesome too because i remember seeing the short film of it in 7th grade. ‘to kill a mockingbird’, which is about a girl named scout living in the segregated south, is really great as well! i loved how it was set in the 30s and scout was so much fun! (i’m a bit bummed at how we didn’t get to see the movie tho). ‘romeo and juliet’ is shakespeare’s most iconic work, being a tale of two star crossed lovers in fair verona. i really enjoyed the story(not the d jokes tho) and it inspired me to write a story set in 1596 (when the play was made)! i take back what i said about 5th grade being iconic 9TH GRADE WAS SO ICONIC YAS!!!!!

the worst of 9th grade- the scarlet ibis! it’s about a boy who takes care of his sick brother named doobie and tries to make him ‘normal’. it’s sweet how the iris symbolizes the brother, but how they die at the end is so sad! ‘the sniper’ wasn’t that good but the plot twist of the sniper guy shooting his brother was neat (also the ‘romeo + juliet’ movie wasn’t that good besides mercutio)

the best of 10th grade- a thousand splendid suns! the most recent book i’ve read, it’s about two women named mariam and laila who live in the afghanistan as the taliban take over. their story is so inspiring and i love how laila was able to be happy after all the horrifying things she went through with rasheed. mariam sacrificing herself for laila by killing rasheed was very powerful and i wish the stage version had her in it. bonus points go to ‘lord of the flies’! a group of boys are stranded on an island and there’s much boy chaos involved. it’s a great story and the fandom was too!

the worst of 10th grade- where are you going where have you been! this is about a girl named colleen who meets a guy named arnold friend. he’s very creepy and it’s an uncomfortable story to read (even more than rasheed!). equal bonus points to ‘the red bow’, a confusing story of a dead girl, a dog and red bows that i still don’t understand!

the best of 11th grade- the crucible! it’s about a girl named abigail who gets swept up in the salam witch trials. it’s a fascinating story with real life elements (rip giles) and the movie was pretty good. ‘the great gatsby’ was also a great story about how the roaring 20s wasn’t as fun as it seemed through the story of gatsby, all told through the eyes of nick

the worst of 11th grade- into the wild! this is a study sync thing, but we did a lot of those compared to novels. it’s about chris mccandles, a guy who tried surviving in a van in alaska and died, making a terribly tragic tale. ‘an incident at owl creek’ was ok but the best part was the plot twist of the guy running to his wife and being hung right before he can touch her (we saw the twilight zone ep instead of reading it and the twist was *chef’s kiss*)

the best of 12th grade- 1984!!! it’s the story of a dreamer named winston, who lives in the dystopian world of oceania. he meets a girl named julia and the two have a secret love affair, but they soon find out that no one is safe under the eye of bb. it’s terrifying tale that’s a bit depressing, but there are so many little moments that make me smile and the movie is even better. winston is relatable in some ways, julia is awesome and julston is a pretty great ship! it’s a big improvement over animal farm and it’s definitely my favorite adult story. bonus points go to ‘rime of the ancient mariner’, which is about an old sailor recounting his unfortunate journey at sea. the mariner telling his story to a random wedding guest was funny and it was an adventure like the odyssey! another round of bonus points to ‘beowulf’, an ancient norse tale of a warrior who fights a monster named grendel. the parts of the 2007 movie we saw sucked, but the story was really cool! wiglaf gets a shout out because he’s the best warrior :) another half bonus point to ‘hunger games’, which we saw the movie of. it’s about a girl named katniss who competes in a competition called the hunger games, which makes for a thrilling adventure!

the worst of 12th grade- hamlet! all of what we read this year was really good, but someone had to be last. this shakespearean tale is of hamlet, a prince who seeks revenge >:) it’s an ok story and i like the ghost dad!

now for my all time favorites! (and least faves)

the best of the best!- 1984, the outsiders, a thousand splendid suns,  the diary of anne frank, the odyssey, romeo and juliet, to kill a mockingbird, twelfth night, harrison burgeron, rime of the ancient mariner and the good earth (along with the tom sawyer/1984 movies and hunger games)

good or bad, the books i read throughout school were amazing and i can’t wait to see what college brings! :D

How can anyone possibly say that Kate is straight after watching this episode?

So given Clemantine’s age when Kate escapes the island, the flashbacks couldn’t have been all that long ago. All that time on the run, and Kate stays in America. What made her decide to change country? And why Australia, of all places? Go big or go home, right, Kate?

Locke, you’ve known that Kate was a fugitive since season 1, why is this coming as a surprise to you?

The Sawyer/ Hurley subplot is not only hilarious, it also brings up some interesting questions about how the Losties society works

Like, why is whoever’s getting the food fine with everyone sharing it, despite the fact that most of them do nothing to contribute? Cause they can’t be living entirely off DHARMA drops, that was meant for two people

And we used to see Sawyer do stuff in earlier seasons, like chopping wood or gathering fruit, but now he just... sits around

I’m surprised no one has brought this up as an issue before

Kate says she chose her allieses after saints (and yes, I checked every one, and they all work), but some of the ones she picks are very obscure. I don’t think Sunday School would be teaching her about ‘Saint Monica of Hippo’ from Algeria

Still no idea why Jack cares so much about Juliet. They knew each other for a couple of weeks, max, and it really felt more like an alliance than anything romantic, which is what the show out of nowhere decides it is

Overall Review:

Oh look at that, the writers seem to be getting their shit together with Kate episodes. Two in a row that I have enjoyed (or at least, tolerated). I still don’t give a shit about Jate, so those bits were just annoying. But it’s honestly nice to see two female characters bond with no men in sight. Kate and Cassidy’s interactions bug the hell out of me later, but these are just... sweet

In a Sawyer/Juliet/Miles threesome, what are the dynamics?

oooh, fun! thank you!

some time into the dharma years, not sure how long, i wanna say a year? but sawyer and juliet are a couple by this point, but also both of them really like miles. i think sawyer falls in love with miles also. and with juliet, there's a Strong Fondness, she really likes miles. cuz despite how hard miles tries, he's actually pretty likable somehow

sawyer and jules have a talk, with jules having to do some prodding cuz sawyer has issues with being attracted to men. but they eventually come to the conclusion that, hey, miles is fuckable, let's add him in sometimes for funsies

and miles, naturally, is down for this, as he finds sawyer and juliet hot too. so the dynamic is, miles is added as a third and miles is like "okay they're a couple but thats not my thing, this is just a casual sex between friends thing and that's it" but miles eventually gets this sad feeling in his tummy when he sees sawyer and jules being lovey together. and he doesn't understand why he's feeling this sense of longing. basically he's in love with them too but he doesn't know what to do with those emotions so he lives in repression and denial

jules is having the healthiest mindset about this but she doesn't see that miles is feeling glum. and sawyer is feeling weird inside about this too but he's ignoring it too. i imagine sawyer has had this mindset of, women = sex and sometimes romance, men = sex. so thats messing with him

im making it all sound like it's Big Sad, no it's a couple having great sex with their friend. and theres some issues in there too

so that goes for about 2 years

then Plot happens and juliet dies. and tho sawyer and miles love each other, they saw juliet as the glue that put them together. and they miss her, of course. so miles, outta respect, never brings up the possibility of him and sawyer doing Stuff again (espech cuz i imagine post-finale, he's going thru his own emotional stuff with richard)

tho the more i talk about it right now, the more sad it feels and my feelings for sawyer/miles are getting stronger. i have miles and richard together post-finale. but clearly i've developed a dangling emotional thread here. hm. hmmm. some rekindling of feelings may be possible. lookit that, my headcanons are changing as we speak

anyways overall the dynamic was, miles would visit their house sometimes, they'd hang out, eat cupcakes, and sometimes bang. and sometimes when miles would be putting his jumpsuit back on, and seeing sawyer and jules cuddling, he'd feel a little empty. and that's not the first time a couple has made him feel that way

these three badly needed to communicate about their feelings more, some regrets were had, but overall it was a nice few years

as for sexual dynamics? juliet has a strong desire for control and that lends itself well to sawyer, the 3rd subbiest man in LOST, and miles, who altho he's a natural switch (& vers!), just naturally tends to end up in the role of people dominating him. i don't think they would have given miles the pain he's into but they certainly had a good time

So I’ve actually headcannoned Kate as bi for awhile now! Idk, I’m not a huge fan of all the talk of “bi energy” as it made me feel kind of insecure as a bi person for a bit … but like, if there is bi energy, Kate radiates it. Leather jackets, the biceps, the just general interactions with women … also I like her a lot and I have a nasty habit of projecting indiscriminately onto characters I’m a fan of *shrugs*. 

Anyhow, I’m not a diehard Clare/Kate shipper, but given how Kate’s story arc in season 5/6 revolved around finding Claire, and how things ended up in the finale … I mean it’s basically canon in my mind that something happened after they left the island.

This one’s definitely less interesting than the last, I view Kate as just straight up cis. Not even any deep reason

mental illness/neurodivergent headcannon

First of all I feel like it’s bascially canon that Kate is mentally ill to begin with … I mean, aren’t most people in this show? but since it’s never explicitly stated, I guess I picture Kate as struggling with depressive episodes at intervals throughout her life … also not to piggyback but I saw a hc a bit ago (I think it was @simptasia?) who said she saw Kate is bipolar, and I could definitely get on board with that as well. 

3 random headcannons

oh boy! I actually started thinking about this one and realized I don’t really have a ton of headcannons for Kate’s pre-island younger life. I’d say 

1) my biggest headcannon involving Kate is that she and Sawyer stay close friends for the rest of their lives post-finale. They never get into anything resembling a romantic relationship again, but are always there for each other. I think kate and Sawyer are really very similar people deep down. I’ve always thought that the Kate/Sawyer relationship was only going to work before they each started getting over their deep-seated shit. It was only when they got with Jack and Juliet respectively that they were able to improve themselves instead of bonding over shared emotional issues. 

2) I don’t honestly know why I see this?? But I see Kate as knowing how to skateboard. Not as much in her adult years but as a kid/teen she was definitely a skater girl 

3) I feel like post island, after she no longer had to be constantly on the run … Kate could really show off her style?? Like the girl served some l o o k s during the show’s run and there was a whole lot of shit going on. I like to think that Kate takes pride in dressing herself and cultivating her own personal style. Now I’m just imagining her and Miles shopping together, maybe dragging Claire along… who knows???

Belle’s shout from above them jerked Emma out of her reverie and she followed Gold out of the auditorium back into the bar to see Belle making her way down the ladder from the upper levels; Alice and Ruby followed her down and Belle rushed over to Gold. Her face was dirty from the charred dust, and there were tear tracks down her cheeks, but she was smiling.

“Rum, look!”

She unzipped her jacket and there, like a rescued puppy, was Mr Ted. A little dirty and worse for wear, but unharmed.

“The mirror fell over onto him,” Belle explained, pulling the old toy out of her jacket and presenting him to Gold. “It must have protected him from the flames.”

“Oh Belle…”

Gold took the bear from her, wrapping his arms around her petite frame and slanting his mouth over hers. Emma didn’t think that she had ever seen Belle and Gold be so ostentatious in their affections towards each other; they were usually very discreet as a result of living in an environment shared with so many other people, but now they were kissing with a passionate desperation, as if they’d been separated for months.

It’s probably my favourite piece of my own writing.

March 16th, 1975

Sawyer had always prided himself on his ability to talk himself out of a corner. With the life he had led, lying had become second nature, and being able to quickly respond to new stimuli was often the difference between freedom and incarceration, or worse. Even now, he was lying to an entire complex of, apparently, the smartest minds America had to offer, and he was doing it with ease. As easily as changing clothes, he had taken off the name 'Sawyer', and replaced it with 'Jim LaFleur'. And he was repeating it so many times, he thought he was even starting to convince his friends - Miles called him LaFleur without thinking, and even Jin was shortening the pause before addressing him with every passing day

So, why was it so different with Juliet?

He paced up and down the lounge, thinking. He needed to tell her, that much was obvious, but how exactly do you slip "I have a daughter I haven't told anyone about" into a casual conversation? The answer is, obviously, you don't; that's exactly why he hadn't told anyone. Before Kate, at least

But Juliet was different. First off, there was every chance that she already knew - she had known about him killing Frank Duckett, after all, and he'd made that impossible to trace. Second, they were… well, he wasn't quite sure. A few months ago, the idea of them being friends would have been laughable. But, of course, a few months ago the idea of time travel would have been laughable as well. They had grown closer since joining the Dharma Initiative's little science party. They were easily the best liars in the group - Jin and Miles were passable, but Daniel had been so bad they'd needed to get him shipped back to the mainland with the other nut jobs (ironically enough, the scientists were the ones who had asked the least questions) - and as a result they'd spent countless hours when they first arrived alone, ironing out the wrinkles in their story

So, he would have been quite content with calling them friends. But then, he had to have gone and kissed her, didn't he? Of course - he really should have learned to lay off alcohol at parties by this point, but apparently not. But instead of being disgusted, she had kissed back. And he had enjoyed it. A lot. And it hadn't been their last kiss, not by a long shot. So they couldn't be friends, exactly - James got the feeling that most friends didn't shove each other up against the nearest wall whenever they were looking particularly sexy in their blue jumpsuit and goggles

So, what exactly did that make them? He was fairly positive they weren't dating, not that he'd actually dated enough people to be sure. He knew they were gonna need to talk about it at some point. He and Kate had never really talked properly, and it had destroyed whatever it was they had had. But that could wait - he wouldn't let her choose him without first knowing about his biggest mistake

He heard footsteps, and glanced up just in time to see her silhouette in the window. Shit. He quickly scanned the room for a book, or something else that would help him look natural. He came up short. God damn Juliet and her amazing organisational skills!

Which is why, about five seconds later, one Juliet Burke came into her house to find one James Ford standing in the center of her lounge, his hands behind his back, grinning sheepishly at her "...Hi" she said slowly "Hi" She didn't look particularly phased. But then again, she never looked particularly phased "You just got off your shift?" he asked "Yup" she said breezily "Randzinsky's van broke down half way from The Flame, so we had to go out and- are you alright?" she frowned "You look like a kid who's just broken their mom's favourite plate. Something wrong?" "I uh, well… yes, actually. Sorta" he grimaced "Can we talk?"

She sat down on a couch. He followed "So, um…" He scratched the back of his head. He had really hoped that he would have thought of what to say at this point "So… you know when you were still with Ben Linus and his band of merry men?" Juliet's face closed off. He knew that, living with the Others, she had to learn to close off her emotions in order to survive, but he still hated seeing it. He wasn't sure why, but he wanted her to feel able to share how she was feeling with him "Uh huh" she nodded "You know how y'all had files on all of us?" "Uh huh" she nodded again "I assume there was one on me?" "Of course" "Was it…" he felt his face starting to heat up "Was it just about me? Or associates too?"

Juliet considered him for a long while "Who are you really asking about, James?" she asked softly He swallowed "There was this… woman. Her name was Cassidy Phillips. What do you know about her?" Her expression was impossible to read. It was one of those things about her that infuriated him - reading people was literally his thing! It frustrated him and it fascinated him, all at once

She thought for a second "I know Cassidy Philips is a woman thirty-two years of age, living in Albuquerque. I know that she was briefly married to a businessman, and she won six million dollars in the divorce. I know that, shortly after that, you and her dated for six months, ending when you conned her, taking all six million. I know she later pressed charges, but your prison sentence was reduced after you told government officers the location of a large sum of money another inmate had stolen from the treasury department" "How the hell do you- actually, don't answer that" he felt his stomach clench "Is that- is that all?" Juliet smiled quietly "No, James, it's not" she said "I know about eight months later, she gave birth to a girl named Clemantine. With you being registered as the child's father. And I know you know that, because you put the reward you received in prison in a bank account in Clemantine Phillips's name. A bank account you periodically deposited money into over the next year or so, before the crash" Sawyer stared at her "I told the bank guy to make sure no one ever found out who made that account" he sighed "I guess I should have warned them against all those omniscient tribes living on magic moving islands" "Yes, that does seem like an oversight on your part" she said lightly Despite himself, he laughed

"So, that's what you wanted to tell me?" Juliet asked "That you have a daughter?" Hearing her say those words out loud made his stomach swoop. Of all the things that had happened in his life, especially recently, that might be the thing he found the most absurd - that he was a father "Yeah" he sighed, and buried his head in his hands "I figured you'd wanna know how much of a coward I am" "You're not a coward" "Ain't I?" he laughed bitterly "You know I was close, Jules. I was so close to leaving the island. But I jumped. At the time, I figured I had the least to get back to, out of everyone on that chopper. But that's not true at all, is it? I had my- I had Clementine. And I abandoned her. Again"

Juliet laid a hand on his arm. He jumped, but didn't pull back "You haven't abandoned her, James" she said, in her signature calming tones "You still believe Locke's coming back?" Sawyer nodded. He had to believe him, even if no one else seemed to at this point - he got the feeling no one tended to believe in him. He knew the feeling "Well then" she said with a small smile "Locke will come with some miraculous way to get us back to 2004, and you'll be able to get right back to her" He gave her a long look. Her attitude was pretty incredible really - over three years with the Others, and yet she was still the hopeful one "You think so?" "I know so" she smiled "Of course, failing that, we could just age thirty years" Sawyer chuckled "And loose all my dashing good looks? That's a terrible plan" "I dunno" she cocked her head to the side "I think you'd be an attractive older gentleman. Quite the silver fox" Sawyer laughed. Juliet smiled

July 24th, 1977

"You know, I can take him for a while" said Kate "Sure you can" Honestly, Ben was deceptively light. James got the feeling it was a mix between the blood he had lost and how under-fed he was. That was just one of the many things he wished he could help with. But they all figured Ben's father had a part in him becoming… well, Ben. So they couldn't help at all. If truth be told, he felt sorry for the kid. But at least they could do this one thing for him. At least they could save his life

They had come across a creek. Sawyer lay the kid down on the ground, while Kate refilled the water "You know" said Kate "his father said that you think Ben broke Sayid out" James sighed "A kid'll do almost anything if he's pissed off enough at his folks" "Is that why you asked me to take care of your daughter?" Sawyer whipped round. Kate was watching him intently. With everything that had happened over the past couple days, he had barely spared a passing thought to her. God, he was a bad parent "Did you?" he asked "Of course I did"

She passed her a water bottle. It took him a few seconds to build up the courage to talk again "What's she like?" he asked "Clementine?" James felt an odd jumpy feeling in his stomach "Yeah" he said softly "Clementine" Kate grinned "Oh, she's beautiful. Looks just like you when she smiles. She's growing up fast. Already has a little attitude" James felt his eyes widen. She was just over a year old when he left for Sydney, and coupling that with the three years the doc said passed while they were gone… his daughter must be about four years old at this point. Bloody hell

He took a long breath, attempting to compose himself

"I bet you and Cassidy had a lot to talk about" he said Kate hesitated a second before speaking "She had an interesting theory on why you jumped off the chopper" "Yeah, what's that?" "She thought you were worried about what would happen if you didn't" James looked at her for a long moment. He got the feeling that they weren't talking about Clemantine anymore. He took a deep breath "You and me would've never worked out, Kate" he admitted "I wasn't any more fit to be your boyfriend than I am to be that little girl's father" Kate raised an eyebrow "You seem to be doing all right with Juliet" He attempted to hide a smile "Yeah. I've done a lot of growing up the past three years-" "Hands up!" James looked up. To be honest, he was almost glad for the man pointing a gun at them, to bring that particular conversation to a close

December 8th 2007

They had landed in Guam, just as the plane had been scheduled to land at. Although, admittedly, there were considerably fewer passengers than intended. They had found a private airstrip to land at, and then scarpered before whoever owned the place discovered them

They had stayed a week. A couple of days after arriving, they had received word that Desmond had been returned to his family and that he and that Penny woman were coming to Guam to help. Thankfully, Desmond's wife was not only loaded, but also pretty damn intelligent, and through both of those things was able to reintegrate them all into society, almost as if they'd never left. James himself had come up with the majority of the cover stories, although Juliet had helped. And, just like that, instead of being in the plane crash, he had missed the flight and had to take the one the next day, while Juliet had spent the last six years at a research facility near Portland. They had Richard to back them up on that one

Which led to where they were now. Two helicopters sat side by side. Kate and Claire were to be taking the first to Australia, to find Claire's mother and Aaron. They had left first "We'll be seeing you guys soon" Kate said, giving him a hug "You're not staying down under, then?" "No" after taking a shower and changing her clothes, the change in Claire's appearance was pretty miraculous - it was almost like she had never gone Lord of the Flies "Kate says Aaron grew up in L.A., and I wouldn't want to take him away from his home" "Alright, then" he smiled weakly "I guess this is it, then" "Quite" Kate smiled "Bye, Sawyer" “Bye, Freckles"

Kate took Claire's hand, and together they got onto the first helicopter. Richard was flying them - he didn't have a plan yet, so he seemed to have volunteered just for something to do. The propellers started up, forcing him and Juliet to take a couple steps back. With a last wave, Kate and Claire disappeared into the air. James stared at the floor briefly. The last time Kate had flown off in a helicopter without him, he had torn himself apart wondering what would have happened had he been there. This time, he felt… nothing. Kate would be happy without him, he knew that. And he was fine with that. He didn't want her anymore. He hadn't for a long while

He turned to look at Juliet. She was wearing a similarly pensive look "You alright?" "Yeah. It's just…" she looked around them briefly "We've been here a week" "What, you think we should have gone sightseeing?" She scoffed "No, James. I mean… it feels odd to be leaving this place so soon. I was on our last island for over six years" "Hmm" he smirked "And we haven't even saved the world once. Honestly, the people of Guam really missed out on that one" Juliet laughed "Well, should any reports come through on the news about smoke monsters-" "-we'll turn the television off" They shared a grin

Frank signalled that he was ready, and they both hopped in the back "You folks decided where you're heading?" James raised an eyebrow at Juliet, and shrugged. Your call "Florida, please, Lapidus" Juliet called "Florida it is then" "Who's in Florida?" asked James "Your sister?" "Yeah" she smiled weakly "Or at least, she was. Best place to start looking, anyway" "Alright, boys and girls, prepare for take off" said Lapidus "Headsets on, and remember to keep you hands and feet inside the ride at all times" The propellers sprung to life, slowly at first, but soon becoming a blur. The machine lifted off the ground. James's stomach lurched. Juliet gripped his hand. Her eyes were wide "This is really happening" she breathed "Yeah" he smiled They were going home
