In theory i like the idea that rick is growing and developing as a person. In practice it ends up falling short though, because no one balances him out. rick is getting better while no one else is getting worse, and it causes the whole thing to end up feeling a bit stale. The biggest draw, at least for me, has always been rick and morty's shitty dynamic, but it barely exists anymore because rick has been so watered down.
The ideal solution is literally just to make morty into a bigger asshole. Essentially flipping the main characters' personalities would offer a wide variety of conflict into the show, and would also help keep it "fresh".
Instead it feels the writers are pretending that they can't possibly do anything with morty's character, that they have to keep him the same anxious idiot he was in season one. I've said this before, but it's incredibly frustrating to watch the show have no problem with expanding rick's character while struggling with keeping morty's heavily stagnated characterization consistent. Where rick has space to develop between multiple seasons, morty is constantly forced into one of two boxes (smart/stupid) depending on the episode.
#rick and morty#again i dont hate ricks therapy arc i just hate that morty doesnt have a parallel AntiTherapy arc#not to mention how. even if morty IS more bitter it usually only lasts for like an episode#there is no smooth progression or development. the show is just ping ponging between him being an idiot vs him being capable#this is why im sooooooososososo badly hoping the roy machine comes into play again.#otherwise this is genuinely offensive treatment of a main character#genuinely at the moment i feel like fandom understands morty better than the writers.#this is a half vent post to be honest im just so tired of the rick bias within the staff. romance books are always set in the normal, boring world so I feel like authors might feel limited in expanding the relationship. what problems do the characters in a romance book experience anyway? oh cheating, moving away, my mom hates you, transferring jobs, my ex-girlfriend is still in love with me blah blah blah.
meanwhile in fantasy or murder mystery or really any other genre, the romance can be explored much more deeply. the tension, the betrayal, the death trope, character A going through literal torture and almost wanted to give up on their life but character B is there in their head and the sole reason why they survived. they survived just so they can get back to character B.
there are SO MANY things you can do when your romance is set in other genres. so many possibilities that you can't find in an ordinary romance book.

i have so many thoughts on mtme #27 and chromedome and prowl and i fear i am severely late to the party
#i think prowl is a very interesting character#and he makes my blood boil#but i dont actually hate him#i want to#but i CANT#and that makes me even more frustrated#oh hes so...#i dont have the words#but i saw stuff that made me think that chromedome does smth crazy#and like hes no saint#but i realize its the rose tinted glasses that prowl fans wear#(no offense)#its just like bias and blorboism#prowl isnt a bad guy#he just makes the same mistakes#and hes right at times#but hes not a people person#hes so patronizing and self righteous that no one wants to listen to him which i think feeds into his frustration more#but like#chromedome taking his memories was done bc prowl was threatening rewind#and obv chromedome didnt intend for it to make him suspectible to decepticon control#it was a reaction TO prowls actions#and yes they are in war#but its absolutely true that prowl makes hard decisions and hands them off to be carried out by others#consequences that he doesnt actually have to face while everyone else doss#i mean the overlord thing ???#and people are like well they couldve said no#and as rodimus put it-he said no and yet overlord was on the ship anyway !#he manipulates people into saying yes or at least tries to#chromedome just sees through that probably because of their past

also yall know that thing about how people with adhd will forget you exist if they don't see you, that is very true on my end.
#i am impulsive with my words and don't really take all the time the impact they could have#never want to be rude or offensive in anyway but sometime i am#i value my experiences over other people to much and need to just close that part of me when interacting with people with different lives#i got a bias towards lighter skinned black folks but not in the way that you'd think#i view the struggles of not being black enough or really poc enough as nothing serious sometimes which isn't great and i gotta work on that#like my reasoning behind it is because i have always been to dark to black my hairs not good my i'm inferior because of my brown skin#the amount of colorism i faced growing up from adults reading oh i'm not black enough people called me white looking always read to me as a#brag in a way like its not but it sometimes feels like that especially living in the states were looking less like the ethnic group you are#in is the standard of beauty#its fuck up i read the colorism that lighter skinned folks face as something good its self hatred#plus another part of me sits and gets mad for them like fuck you for trying to denying my hertiage and the shit i have faced because i'm no#dark enough or the struggles i face isn't as bad as you've experience.#i only really take issue with the i'm not poc enough or someone called me white because shit i wish thats what i got instead of being calle#monkey or burnt or made to feel ugly because of my skin or not family because i wasn't the same color as my dad or mom#can't be putting my shit onto people#its not right and its unhealthy#something i gotta work on#will say though i was called white growing up for speaking a certain way and liking rock music and not being black enough in personality bu#i can't imagine how that must feel because of just how you look#i felt isolated from my peers for alot of reason but having my appearance being so upfront in that is different and i feel for my#lighter skinned peeps. i got alot of shit from adults on my skin tone than my actual peers thankfully.

I watched the trailer for the new gundam trailer... doesn't grab me at all...
