The answer to this is probably clear, but I'm baffled on where the Teen Wolf series got its lore on Kitsune from and why the fan communities think that they are in Japanese myths? One time I tried finding the sources for these "13 types" of Kitsune from the show, but nothing really aside from like one or two of them was out there in English atleast.

Is there any specific reason behind the increased amount of questions which appear to depend on random works of fiction I don't even post about as the sole point of reference? Did someone share my blog in some non-standard location? I know nothing about Teen Wolf but the "13 kitsune types" lists you can find in such illustrious sources as AI generated tiktoks and yt shorts and whatever this is:

are made up. Basically worthless as a source. Attempting to track their origin down lead me to a neocities version of an rp resource for the mmo Furcadia compiled between 2003 and 2007 which in turn depended on this archived page of highly dubious quality ("To be honest, I have no idea how many provinces are in Japan") going back to 1997, where the idea of 13 types was, as far as I can tell, invented based on, to put it diplomatically, rather creative exegesis of the 1961 book Kitsune. Japan's Fox of Mystery, Romance & Humor by Kiyoshi Nozaki, which is largely just a compilation of quotes from classical literature (which at the time would be something relatively novel in English) - free of 13 types of elemental foxes. Note that while the article mentions "researchers" the only sources other than this single book listed are random people active on the same websites as the author in the 1990s, as seen on the archived list of credits here. To date I haven't seen these lists of "kitsune types" actually being posted in Japanese, they exclusively propagate on the English-speaking web and on particularly low quality sites at that; they are absent from both credible and less than credible sources over on the Japanese side, as far as I am aware. A number of medieval sources contain an enumeration of three types of foxes - heavenly, earthly, and human, following the heaven-earth-man philosophical principle imported from China, but what that exactly entailed varies between said sources (Bernard Faure, Protectors and Predators, p. 138-139). Needless to say, this is completely unrelated to the discussed tomfoolery. Jp wikipedia claims there are a few Edo period attempts at arranging various terms for foxes like nogitsune, tenko etc. into some sort of hierarchy but I didn't independently verify that. In any case, nobody ever believed foxes have offbrand Pokemon types which determine their power level. The list of alleged fox types is the result of a game of telephone.

I left home early this morning to go thrifting ( looking for Pokemon cards ) and it was really quite cold, which gave me an excuse to wear this velveteen Emily Temple Cute skirt for the first time 🩷 It has a really subtle stripe pattern created from sewing several horizontal panels to create the skirt ! Okay... What the absolute fuck happened with Tales of Arcadia-Trollhunters section while I wasn't active in the fandom?

After ROTT debacle, I sorta drifted away partly cause other fandoms had snag my interest and Netflix was being an unplayable ass. So today I get a Troll!Jim sketch popping up in my feed while scrolling through Resident Evil, Welcome Home and Linked Universe posts. I liked it then check out the tag only to see a huge clusterfuck of other stuff.

Another tie in series? And the ugly bomb that is Beast Jim. Whoever came up with this design, no offense, but it looks like an offbrand male troll version of the Tinkatink line from Pokemon. Now I'm all for monsters as they interest me more than human characters. Especially if written well. Hell, I'm a monster hugger of the monster loving spectrum.

Half Troll Jim is a fine beastie fella in design although the premise... it's a mixed bag as a whole. Beast Jim, absolutely not. With the half troll, you can see the resemblance to his original human form. Anytime a transformation is unrecognizable it's for the purpose of a mystery or to tell that they are too far gone.

You aren't supposed to see the man behind the 'monster' until its too late. A dear companion is now a threat, one you might have to put down. The mystique and realization delves into horror or sorrow. Beast!Jim's design does not have anything good going for it except as a example of what not to do. Just look! 👇

This 'Beast' doesn't feel Jim to me in general. His design is awkward and pisses off my artistic side as I seen way better troll designs for characters. Whether it be official artwork from the series, a different series or by passionate artists. Beast!Jim just feels like he been made with no care and love, a STAND IN for something better that never came.

I am definitely catching up on the series then redesigning Beast Jim. This is a travesty that will not be forgiven. I got enough aqua green color pencils as the color scheme is going first for obvious reasons.

what are 3 things you’d say shaped you into who you are?

pokemon has by far been the biggest driving force in who i am socially - every irl friend i've ever had was either made through pokemon, or friends i met through those friends. i played both the tcg and vgc competitively between 11 and 16, and was so deeply woven into that that when i started playing pokemon go with the local pokemon go community in 2018 people a lot of people recognised me from back then. the interest changed me for the worst - it was how i met and got close to one of my abusers - but even so, when my friends all left the city, i still decided to get back into tcg to stop being so lonely. it's cringe being this into a nintendo property but it's just someth i do at this point lol

aside from that uhhhh my impulsiveness kinda fucks i throw myself into things without a second thought. literally how i found a career that doesn't make me wanna Die and also how i found i fuckin love praying mantises. hell impulsiveness is how i started playing competitive pokemon. if my impulses were different i would be entirely different and that kinda throws me lmfao

third uhhhhh my grandma getting me an mp3 player for christmas when i was 6. was a factor in my autism being spotted and diagnosed. also made me a lil music freak. thanks grandma

12. what’s some good advice you want to share?

buy and keep two sets of crayons; skin toned crayons and monochrome crayons. you want as many different colours in both as possible. they don't have to be expensive crayons, offbrand cheapo ones will do.

between these you will be able to buff out pretty much any mark ever made in anything plastic or wood you own in a couple of minutes. the wax is thick enough to fill in the deep gap and by going lightly back and forth between 2-3 shades it is really fucking easy to colourmatch. smooth it over with a thumb and its unnoticeable. this is my favourite bit of adult knowledge i have bc i love doing it lol

I ended up making a CS about 3 years ago and apparently found out that there was another similar CS I learned about AFTER making my own who’s creator just cold blocked me since our species shared One (1) similarity. While I know your blog is to shit on CS in general, and shame on me for making one before realizing I did something generally frown upon, what should I do if this species ends up coming after me while previously not knowing of its existence? the CS is Incredibly popular, so I’m a bit scared. (not scarfox/cccats tho) I want to of course continue my CS while learning of what NOT to do from blogs like this, but I’m now terrified of the CS mentality of “if our species are similar, I’ll literally kill you”. Any words of wisdom? /gen

focus on your own species, even if they share the same general idea the way it's run will make it different even if they're the exact same thing (i.e. a bunch of pokemon groups are still different even if they're both about pokemon)

it's generally very frowned upon to shit on a species just because they look similar, though yeah some people are going to be shitty and call it a bootleg or offbrand even if that was never your intention. that's why focus on building your own work, do no harm but take no shit. if people shit on you then you can screenshot and send it to the groups they're in to shame them

i shit on cs practices and people who intentionally use those practices to the detriment of others, but ive no issue if people just want to make one. i wouldn't because of the problems but i have seen the appeal. at the end of the day do it because you want to, not because someone else might have a similar idea or that cs people care way too much on originality that doesn't exist
