Back to the Drehknebel
Nach neun Jahres fleißigen Backens hat unser Ofen den Geist aufgegeben, und weil ich mit ihm sehr zufrieden war, bestelle ich ein neueres Modell desselben Herstellers (trotz Inflation zum selben Preis).
Der neue Ofen unterscheidet sich nur in drei Aspekten vom alten: Er verfügt über eine versenkbare Tür (gut!), eine bessere Energieeffizienz (auch gut!) und eine Touchscreen-basierte Steuerung (schlecht!).
Am alten Ofen gab es ein kleines Display, einige Touch-Tasten unterhalb des Displays und einen mechanischen Vierwegeschalter (“ShiftControl Bedienelement”):
Am neuen Ofen gibt es ein Touch-Display und einige Touch-Tasten neben dem Display:
Die Navigation und das Einstellen von Temperatur, Zeit etc soll primär durch Wischen auf dem Display bewerkstelligt werden, allerdings reagiert das Display sehr träge und unpräzise. Außerdem lassen sich Temperaturen/Zeiten nur in größeren Intervallen auf diesem Weg einstellen. Für eine genauere Einstellung werden die Touch-Tasten “Pfeil links/rechts” benötigt (was in der Gebrauchanleitung nicht erwähnt wird). Eine der wichtigsten Funktionen im Angesicht hungriger Familienmitglieder (Schnellaufheizen) ist nicht mehr über eine Touch-Taste erreichbar, sondern über ein (sehr kleines) Icon im Rechteck für die gewählte Betriebsart, und die Auswahl von Lieblingsbetriebsarten erfordert die Verbindung des Ofens mit dem Internet (Home Connect).
Dass auch im Backofen-Sektor alles immer schlechter wird, wundert mich erstmal nicht. Tatsächlich hat der Hersteller das Problem aber bereits adressiert: Für die teuersten Backöfen (mit besonders großem Touch-Display) gibt es als Zubehör teure magnetische Drehknöpfe, die sich auf der freien Fläche neben dem Display platzieren lassen, um die preiswertesten Backöfen (mit Drehknebel-Bedienung) zu simulieren.

Your question got me bugging for a good minute but then I got curious and went to google it
So now I can tell you an oven is called an oven because it comes from the old latin "furnus" which down the generations at some point became "ofen" and then the f became a v and it became "oven" and and oven refers specifically to a closed chamber with heat for cooking/baking/drying :D
