The captain’s hand instinctively covered their forearm, hiding the tattoo inked when they’d sworn a foolish oath years ago. They pulled down their sleeve, but it was too late—the young deckhand’s sharp eyes had caught the telltale lines of a treasure map scrawled in dark ink. "You saw nothing," the captain muttered.

Stranded on a stretch of empty beach, the two pirate captains—once bitter enemies—could barely look each other in the eye. "I’m not sharing my firewood with you," she snapped, hoarding the meager pile of driftwood they’d collected for warmth. Her rival just sneered, pulling his coat tighter around him against the sharp ocean wind. "Fine," he retorted with a smirk. "Let’s see who freezes first. Might just solve the whole problem."

The stowaway, caught by the crew in the dark belly of the ship, glared defiantly at the captain, despite the empty cutlass against their neck. "You’ve got fire in you; I’ll give you that much," the captain said, their eyes gleaming with a curiosity that no one expected. "Maybe it’s just the kind we need to outrun that navy fleet on our tail." The stowaway blinked, hope flickering across their face as the cutlass lowered just enough for them to breathe.

They called it The Silent Marauder, the ghost ship that drifted out of the mist on blood-red nights, promising riches for those who dared board. "One must stay," the captain read aloud from the ancient log book, unease prickling the crew’s skin as they glanced at each other in horror. A shiver crept down their spines as they realized the truth: the captain would have to decide which of them would stay behind as payment for their prize.

The captain smirked, shackled to the wooden post in the navy brig, as the young officer watched them through the bars. "So," the captain drawled, "will you throw the book at me, or are you the type to bend a rule or two for an honest pirate?" The officer’s expression wavered, his fingers hovering over his keys, and for a split second, the line between duty and temptation flickered dangerously in his eyes.

The silver-haired mermaid lay limp on the ship’s deck, her scales shimmering under the moonlight as she met the captain’s gaze with an unearthly intensity. "If you release me, I’ll lead you to treasure beyond imagining," she whispered, her voice lilting like the waves.

The grizzled sailor reached out to the young captain with trembling hands, a half-smile on his weathered face. "So you’re really my daughter, then," he murmured, his voice rough and thick with years lost. She clenched her jaw, her hands balled into fists as she fought against the waves of emotion rising inside her; after years of fighting her way to captaincy, she never thought she’d face her father.

Ocean (Coast) Prompts

1. A runs after B, laughing as the water makes the pursuit more difficult.

2. Having breakfast/etc. with a view of the ocean should be nice. Yet, A seems to pay more attention to the waterbody than to B.

3. A and B met up to go surfing together, but now they are simply sitting on their boards and have a serious conversation.

4. A and B are so focused on one another that they don’t notice that the ocean has carried them along the coastline. Now, they have to walk/swim for a while to get back to their towels/friends/etc.

5. The sound of waves crashing onto the shore lulls A to sleep as they rest on B’s lap/chest/etc.

6. A shakes/wrings out their wet hair/flings their arms so that B too – who has been enjoying the sun on the beach – can enjoy the ocean.

7. A has their legs wrapped around B as they float together.

8. A and B gossip/talk about friend C/etc. who is currently watching over their belongings/etc. on the beach.

9. The sun has set/is starting to rise when A and B make it to the ocean, their spontaneous trip leading them to go skinny dipping/etc.

10. A and B kiss while sitting together on a (surf)board.

11. A is afraid of the ocean.

12. A loves the ocean/dreams of seeing the ocean for the first time. B surprises them with a trip to the coastline.

13. As a wave retreats, it takes A/A’s hat/etc. with it.

14. A stands on a rock/etc., back to the ocean and eyes on B (and the camera they are holding), when a larger wave crashes behind them. (Their clothes get wet.)

15. A always dreamt of living near the ocean – turns out that the reality of it is more of a nightmare than a dream come true.

16. A has had a bad week. The only thing that is able to save it/can bring them some peace now, is a visit to the beach on their day off.

17. A gets scared when something (e.g. a fish, seaweed) brushes against their skin.

18. The water is colder/warmer than A expected it to be/B said it would be.

20. A gives B the royal treatment they deserve and pushes the board they are lying on towards the shore.

27. Walking into the ocean, A expected B to be squatting. They are not prepared for the drop/sudden steep decline as they make their way to them.

Prompt 300

Danny squirms and hisses, trying to dig his claws into dark scales as the clouds whistle by. “Wait- Ancients dammit- STOP!” he shrieked, cursing how tiny his own ghost form was compared to his other not-quite-future-self. Wings that could easily dwarf the entire Ops center beat through the air, fast enough to cause his eyes to sting. 

“Dan- bring me back- stop-” he wailed, despite the grip on his scruff not even loosening. Yet the larger dragon didn’t so much as twitch back towards Amity, the city disappearing into the distance like a speck. “We have to go back-” 

The GIW were- were- They had to go back! The portal was gone (exploded, broken and all of Fentonworks a smoldering mess, oh Ancients he’s gonna be sick-), no one could return to the Realms, they were all sitting ducks- 

“Jordan please-” he begged, even though he already knew that between the city, between every other ghost and them, Dan would always choose to keep them safe. But Jazz was hurt, she wasn’t waking up from where she lay limply cradled in Dan’s claws. 

There was so much blood, and he only knew she was still alive from the weak fluttering of her core, growing stronger as her heartbeat faded. She needed help, she needed doctors- he doesn’t know if she would be able to come back, not with how they were leaving the ecto-rich city behind and he didn’t want to lose her- Dan’s blank panic was swamping his own, drowning both of them in the emotion as the dragon tore through the sky. Some part of him knew they couldn’t stay in Amity anymore, but- But Jazz needed help- Danny couldn’t help the tears that dripped from his yes, pretending it was merely the clouds as they flew to places unknown to him.

Hello there, all you wonderful people, and happy Mermay 2024! This prompt list is one of a few that I’ve made for this month since I couldn’t really decide on the theme I wanted to go with this year lol.

As you can all see this Mermay prompt list is all about Sharks, which are my favorite sea critters and I know I’m not the only one! My favorite sharks are the Lemon Shark, the Blue Shark, the Whale Shark, and of course, the Great White Shark.

I know I’m rambling a little bit, but that’s not exactly new for me lol.
