i want to ramble about her under the cut

i had the idea of wanting to play someone who obsolutely idolised the HoF growing up. my HoF was a dwarf noble warrior who basically devoted her life to the wardens after origins, and this rook wanted to see herself in the HoF so badly that she put everything into learning to fight, when she transitioned she chose a similar name (HoF is Sunniva, rook is Signy), and then voluntarily joined the wardens as soon as she was old enough

and then realised that it's nothing like the stories. there's very little glory. darkspawn suck. the people in command suck. other wardens suck. everything sucks but going home isn't an option. getting to step away from the order for a while was probably the best thing that could have happened

i think her growth through the story of the game is being forced to actually connect with people rather than see them as eternal acquaintances. and maybe try and stop idolising other people and follow her own trajectory. or something

First piece back @dadrunkwriting! Somehow the quote part of this ended up being about cats? Also, I've finally caved and given my Trevelyan-adjacent inquisitor an actual surname.

Signy Carrow, recently named the Inquisitor and thus now Elissa’s boss and not just an equal on the leadership council, looked like she might actually laugh for a moment before settling back into the serious expression she’d worn since arriving at Skyhold. She hadn’t taken a break except to sleep since then, either, and if that line nearly got her laughing then she might just be a little delirious from how little of that she’d been doing.

Elissa placed the orange cat she’d removed from the wartable on a windowsill, where it walked it gave her a reproachful look, walked in a circle three times, and settled down to nap in the sunshine.

“So much for his invasion of Nevarra,” the Inquisitor said. It took a second for Elissa to realize that the Signy wasn’t speaking in an exhausted monotone, but with a dry, deadpan sort of humor.Maybe, Elissa thought, she’s going to be okay. And if the Inquisitor could make it to okay, maybe the rest of them could, too.

Late to the party, but here's all my norn!

Hjalmar Emberhowl

My Spellbreaker and Second Main, Hjalmar's one of two commanders, the other commander being his adoptive sister Liana, whom he also co-leads Dragon's Watch with. Mar's also the Champion of Vlast, mirroring Liana being the Champion of Aurene. He's the son of Signy Ornkin and Ingvar Frostfury, although he refuses to acknowledge Ingvar since he abandoned his family and became the Fraenir of Jormag (eeyup, the very Fraenir that's fought in Icebrood Saga is Mar's dad in my fractal of Tyria). He's also the half brother to Nora Fenrisdottir and stepson to Kaja Ravenseeker. Aside from defending Tyria from all the horrors fate seems to throw at it, Mar's got a pretty strong passion for cooking, even having dreams of opening his own cafe or restaurant someday.

Marit Trickshot

Deadeye and official scout for Dragon's Watch. Marit's a childhood friend of both Liana and Hjalmar, as well as a follower of the Spirit of Fox. She's also Canach's dearheart. Marit's pretty good at tracking and is a natural with her sniping skills, having helped the Lionguard a number of times with repelling Svanir raids in addition to taking out the cultist's strongholds. Eventually, she decides she can't let Hjalmar and Liana have all the fun and joins the Pact following the Battle of Claw Island. Currently, she's been helping Canach run his social club in Arborstone, but the news coming out of Janthir has been hard to ignore, as she's considering following her friends once again in whatever adventures await.

Kaja Ravenseeker

Reaper, Shaman of Raven, and a Vigil Tactitian. Kaja's the adoptive mother of Liana and the stepmother to both Nora and Hjalmar, as well as Signy's wife. Her late sister, Elina Ironsong, was the wife of Warmaster Forgal Kernsson, and Kaja remained fairly close to her brother-in-law throughout the rest of his life. Forgal's own sacrifice at Claw Island is what prompted her to join the Vigil, determined to keep the legend of both him and her sister alive. While she's not on havroun levels of power, Kaja is still considered pretty powerful for a Raven shaman, being known to call on ravens to aid her in times of need. Her own reaper shroud is even affected by this, taking on a shadowy variant of her own Raven form.

Signy Ornkin

Soulbeast, Shaman of Wolverine, and Order of Whispers Agent. Signy is the mother of Hjalmar and Nora and the adoptive mother of Liana, as well as the wife of Kaja. Her first husband and Nora's father, Fenris Stormbreaker, fell in battle against the Sons of Svanir while defending a Kodan Sanctuary. Her second husband and Hjalmar's father, Ingvar Frostfury, abandoned them to join the ranks of the dragon cultists, ultimately rising up to the rank of Fraenir. Ingvar would have taken Hjalmar with him as well had Signy not torn his arm off during the attempted kidnapping. Signy's fiercely protective of her family, and has been known to not hesitate to throw herself in danger's way if it meant keeping her loved ones safe.

Nora Fenrisdottir

Renegade, member of Dragon's Watch, and Vigil Captain. Nora is the daughter of Signy Ornkin and Fenris Stormbreaker, half sister to Hjalmar Emberhowl, and adoptive sister to Liana. She's also the wife to my sylvari tempest, Siobhán. Nora had originally been a guardian, but at some point following the death of Zhaitan her flames flickered out and were replaced by mists energy. What's more, she found herself hearing the voice of her long-dead father echoing in her head, guiding her hand in combat. Combining this with the fact she could no longer take on her Wolf form, Nora is choosing to view this as a challenge that the Spirits of the Wild are putting before her in crafting her legend rather then allow the seeds of doubt overtake her with the notion that they abandoned her.

Rorik Thorvaldson

Scrapper and member of Dragon's Watch, as well as a member of Taimi's Krewe. Rorik had grown up in Lion's Arch most of his life, primarily raised by his Lionguard father Thorvald Steelforge, having lost his mother when he was barely a year old. When Thorvald was killed during a Risen attack on one of the Lionguard outposts, Rorik was taken in by his partner at the time, an asura named Phex and his wife Valla. Sometime before the events of the personal story, Rorik had looked into a job prospect that ultimately turned out to be a trap, finding himself and a number of other unlucky individuals as test subjects for the Inquest. Rorik had to endure grueling tests and experimentations involving chaos magic, resulting in him developing electromagnetic abilities. He remained trapped in the labs for about a year and a half until he was sprung out by a known vigilante and son of the overseer in charge of him, Yazz the Reckless. Since then he and Yazz have been sabotaging Inquest labs while also looking for the friends Rorik had made among the other test subjects.

Havroun Ursula

Dragonhunter and the new Havroun of Bear. Another childhood friend of my commanders, Ursula is the daughter of the late Havroun Grechen. She had been training under the watchful eye of her mother ever since it was shown that she had a strong connection to Bear and the Mists themselves, up until Grechen left for Orr to aid in the fight with Zhaitan. With her mother's death, Ursula strives to do her best with the aid of her fellow havrouns, hoping she can prove herself worthy as Grechen's successor.

I was board at school and I drew these but I'm not sure which ones I should draw digitally and which ones I should abandon,

I'll tell you a little about the toons and then have a pool, let's start

Sporky: is one of the fancier toons that loves to collect follows and grow them, would have an ability like finn, where he gets a speed bost when a mechine is finished.

Frosting bag/frosty: would be friends with cosmo and sprout but would only like baking cakes, would own a bakery and would be a healer, but he can also heal 2 hearts at a time if the toon needs it.

Belle: would be a younger kid but older then toodles, that would have an ability like rubies to bost themself forward, would see Shelly as her mom, her bell hole is her face (i think its a smart idea).

Boomby: would be a pirate that would see her friends as her crew, and others as her enemy's that she needs to sink, she has a peg leg and a hook, but their both fake, would be able to blast a cannon ball at a toon to push them forward.

Cuppy: would be a younger kid that would kee craking everytime he got hurt. (I don't have alot for him)

Pencil case: (placeholder name) would be a English teacher for toodles. Would have a pencil/apple trinket, I don't have that many ideas for him.

Wet signy: (placeholder name) is a little dumb and asks like goob, would have an ability like booblet where he turns into a wet floor sign for 20 seconds and all twisteds will ignore him.

Plugger: (place holder name) would be known to get stuck to things and would not have any social awareness, would have the ability to grab a toon and carry them around.

Paper towel: (place holder name) would hate his job due to getting a bunch of wets spots on him, before that he use to LOVE it. Would have an ability like tisha but with the affects of shellys ability.

Summary: Those who give in to their passions, carve out their own prisons. 

Note: The main plot of this is "someone attacked us with an aphrodisiac and now we are trapped together" to then have them realize that they always felt something for each other, basically. That’s it. That’s the whole thing. Plus angst and some funny situations, as usual.

Coping with life (and by life I mean the am*rican g*vernment) by making an MCU oc just like I used to do ten years ago. Anyway uhh this is Signy, Heimdal’s nonbinary child who grew up with Thor and Loki. Similar to how their dad can see everyone in the Nine Realms, they can see everyone who’s dead within the Nine Realms. They can also use shadow work to communicate with the dead but it takes a lot of their magic and wears them out. Thor has a lot of respect for them and they had a situationship with Loki but I’m still debating on if it would turn into anything romantic or not. Anyway uhhh hope you like them

lamp isn’t technically an oc I was just thinking Damn… wouldnt it be funny if a jester had a mask and it glowed when it was popped and it was like a fucked up desk lamp… and then things Happened in my brain.

Lamp is roughly 26 years old and will probably reach the age of 45, contrary to normal jester lifetimes (up to 150). this is definitely because of the mask latched onto its right eyesocket, slowly devouring it!

It has not ever met Indigo or Monsoon, and it’s sort of debatable whether or not it exists in the same universe.

Together, the jester and mask create a gestalt :] (in simpler meanings. think of the relationship parasitic fungi have with ants, minus the immediate death of the host!)

The jester half of the relationship is mostly conscious and deeply murderous. The mask half is significantly more docile in behaviors, relating to a regular masked’s habitual stalking and whatnot. It’s not exactly used to possessing a body that’s not explicitly human shaped, so there’s been some complications.

As time progresses, Lamp (as a singular entity) will decay as any usual host will. At one point, the jester half will be subsumed by the mask and entirely absorbed and overtaken.

The reason there’s a mask latched onto its skull is because some random employee majorly panicked and threw a comedy mask at it, which actually helped them escape.

Lamp is constantly bleeding. Normally, a jester doesn’t explicitly bleed; it’s just a mushy mass of preserved flesh that’s nowhere near as fragile as it seems. Because of the mask’s slow consumption and the depth that the mask’s roots have dug into as well as its small amount of experience regarding non-humanoid hosts, Lamp is basically dealing with over a dozen open wounds at all times! Existing is agonizing!

Since the jester wasn’t fully possessed during the first initial attempt, the mask is only able to influence its behaviors and subtly direct it to do other things. For example, if lamp were to chase down a crew mate and the mask didn’t want said crew mate to die yet, it would be able to slow its movements and redirect it briefly in order to give that individual a little more time. It’s not able to stop Lamp from killing them, however.

Lamp does not need to eat. It’s actually unable to because of the mask’s roots. It’s… not a pretty sight, inside of the box. It’s really not.

Collectively they combined create ‘lamp’. Otherwise, they’re both just regular individuals of both species.

Lamp cannot wind very quickly, and the song is very broken up. Leave it to a mask to mangle all of the careful things going on in the box (the jester is very pissed about this but cannot do anything about it)

The jester is effectively blind. The mask is not. The jester has an amazing sense of hearing and senses vibrations very well. Combined, you’ve got every crew’s worst nightmare—if Lamp can actually wind itself. It takes longer than two minutes, that I can assure you.

There was one single occasion when Lamp fell down a flight of stairs. It was embarrassing, because there was another masked at the bottom. Lamp mauled it out of embarrassment and generally murderous instinct. (The mask itself was not happy about this.)

The relationship it has with other Masked is very very complicated. Over time, as the jester half is consumed, affectionate interactions come easier. Currently, about two months into being stuck together, Lamp has a greater tendency to avoid masked or otherwise murder them. The instinct to grab them and shake like a rabid dog is so prevalent that the Mask cannot even begin to attempt to suppress it.

It Can vomit blood as a regular masked would. It’s kind of like a firehose, though. Like, yknow how a pressure washer can remove flesh from bone? Short range with a very long ‘recharge’. Mainly because there’s not as much blood in its body as you’d expect.

They are two individual beings shoved into one body, one of which is significantly ’fainter’ than the other. There has been more than one occasion where the jester half has attempted to claw the mask off with its singular hand. It has not worked.

Yes, the blood boils. It’s steadily eroding Lamp’s ‘skull’ away, and eating through the box. The skull will eventually have enough grooves and wedges that it just falls apart. The box will experience this as well.

It’s not outright hate; the jester dislikes the mask as one would dislike a spider trapped in their closet. Annoying. Not really bothered by death, just sort of begrudgingly wandering around with it. It doesn’t have the real capability to remove it nor does it retain enough of itself to hate it.

Going with Hjalmar on this one!

Hjalmar's a bit of a savant when it comes to cooking, taught to him by his mother Signy throughout his childhood and perfected as he got older. He's made quite a number of delicious meals ranging from soups, roasts, grilled and barbecued meats, and has quite the talent when it comes to baking dessert goods (the latter being one of two ways he copes with stress).

This talent has sort of made him the unofficial chef for Dragon's Watch, with Mar going out of his way to make sure his fellow guild mates are well fed before rushing off to protect Tyria (while also trying to keep Liana from eating things that shouldn't be consumed). He's also made a point to learn about all the numerous cuisines throughout their travels, making sure to find time when possible to learn from some of the chefs he encounters.

Hjalmar loves cooking almost as much as he loves adventuring, and had even considered trying his hand at a cafe or restaurant of his own in Lion's Arch whenever he decides he has had enough exploration. Recent events, however, have him reconsidering this idea, especially when his relationship with Yao becomes serious to the point he's even considered moving to Cantha.

2. What fanfic do you wish you got more response on?

The Horizon Line. I love Horizon, I think it's one of the best things I've written, but (by my standards) it's not very popular and didn't get a lot of response. I do know why -- it's a prequel in an established AU, it does something completely different than the other story in the series, it focuses on different characters, it's set during an awkward period in the canon; there's too much Loki for Cap or Widow fans and too much Cap and Widow for Loki fans. But it still makes me sad, and it has made me really hesitate on going back to the Yonderverse.

6. Have you written any fanfictions featuring OCs? If so, elaborate!

Yeah, most of them. Marvel's actually an outlier for me because I write very few OCs here, though Home has a bunch -- all the matryoshki but Lorraine and Dottie (who is showing up in 10), Kim Pantcheff and Hana Korematsu from the SSR cryptanalysts; technically the members of the Winter Guard are comics canon characters but that's just me tacking on canon names to OCs. Horizon's got a handful of Asgardian OCs -- Ullr, Forseti, Rota, Signy -- and of course the various Widows and Hulk-Widows are OCs.

Back in Star Wars, Backbone has some very major OC characters -- Alecto, Doriah, and the rest of the extended Syndulla clan being the main culprits, along with every other Twi'lek other than Cham and Hera. (Backbone was written before SW introduced Hera's mother in canon.) Roberto Beneke, Hera's ISB handler, is an OC; the bulk of the Inquisitors are OCs. (Backbone was also written before SW introduced the numbering system for the Inquisition.) Gambit also has a number of OCs, mostly in the Naboo military.

Back in Narnia the bulk of my characters were OCs. Writing in Marvel and Star Wars, there are a lot of background canon characters, both from the mainline canon (films, TV) and from comics and EU, and very often I can just pull someone from there. I only use OCs if there's no way around it. The trick, of course, is to write them without making them seem like OCs and like I am pulling them out of an obscure piece of canon. I've gotten a lot of comments in my day from people saying that they don't usually read fic that features OCs in main roles, so I am cautious about using them heavily; Backbone's a major outlier. (And back in the day I did not think that Star Wars would ever give Hera's mother a canon name.)

12. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Except on very rare occasions (usually for clarification), I only respond to direct questions in comments and even then I only do it about half the time.

About fifteen years ago, back in the LJ days, I lost my temper at someone who'd left a comment mixing my fic up with someone else's, and after that I instituted a strict 24-hour cooling off period between posting and replying to comments. Eventually, that changed to a week, and then to only replying to the comments on the last chapter just before the new chapter was going to be posted. I stuck to that for a really long time, I don't remember when exactly that changed, but I think it had to do with when I started getting a lot of hate on Gambit -- I don't respond to negative comments, period, but I felt weird about replying to every comment on a chapter but the negative ones, so often I wouldn't reply to any comments on that chapter. I used to also reply to comments on the first couple chapters of a story, and then just peter off answering comments on the rest of it -- I think I did this for Morning -- but it eventually has just turned into not responding to comments at all. I also don't like answering comments because (1) it messes up the comment numbers on a story and I'd rather that be an accurate reflection of how many comments people other than me have left and (2) I do reread my comments and I don't like rereading my own responses, since they tend to be variations on "thanks for reading, I'm glad you're enjoying the story!" If you want to come talk to me about my fic, do it off AO3; I'm happy to talk about it on Tumblr or Twitter, in person if you know me IRL, but I don't want to do it in my AO3 comment section.
