#oc: naome

I have a Daedra OC and before you label me as cringe and take me out back to give me a quick and painless death HEAR ME OUT

So controversial take, but I don't think Tiber Septim/Talos is an Aedra, because he didn't make the core sacrifice that the original Eight did. However, I do believe he achieved CHIM and ascended because he was, at his core, a child born of Akatosh. And because of that birthright, I believe when Tiper Septim ascended as Talos, he became a Patron God beneath Akatosh.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that any Dragonborn could theoretically achieve CHIM. The requirements of achieving it are committing an act of love for Nirn and its people so great that it changes the landscape of time. As a Dragonborn, with a soul bestowed by Akatosh, like Tiber Septim, if one stayed a pure course it might even be the ultimate culmination of their service.

Gear switch: we know that the Daedric Princes, specifically Hermaeus Mora & Mephala, are frightened by entities that can fundamentally re-weave the Aurbis: see Ithelia. It's been suggested by ESO that Mora kept Miraak sanctioned for similar reasons: he was simply too powerful. His return would unweave critical threads of fate. Why?

Miraak's return would be an act of great hatred that would fundamentally change the landscape of time. If he had returned in the second era, he could have and likely would have killed Tiber Septim. Of course Mora would be afraid of this, because if an act of timeless love causes one to ascend, an act of timeless hatred could cause one to descend.

Do I think this descent would grant the descendant the same power as a Daedric Prince? No, just like Talos is a lesser Aedric God, this would be a lesser Daedric God, and what level of power and influence they hold would entirely depend on what method was used to descend.

For example; my OC Naome was created from fragments of its origin's soul shattered across thousands of time loops. Because of this, it's not a conscious descent of its origin, more so a mass of energy, similar to a poltergeist. It has a plane of Oblivion, but this plane is an extension of Mephala's sphere. It has little to no influence over the mortal world.

But that's not to say that more powerful methods could not be used. Taking my Miraak example, killing Tiber Septim would almost certainly cause a Dragon Break. An act like that could theoretically produce an entity closer to Talos in nature.

This is all mostly theory based, but I wanted some actual lore behind it if I was going to create a Daedra character. Hopefully this kinda makes some sense.

12: How do they deal with an itch found in a place they can’t quite reach?

I feel like Bunnie would definitely bother Naomi until she helped. If they were not together, she'd simply be like a bear and scratch against a wall.

14: What animal do they fear most?

They have live-cams on the surface that the residents of the Undursa watch like Old Time Discovery Channel. I'd say they have some sort of unofficial deadliest animal poll going around base that Naomi and Bunnie watch with joy. Bunnie would be all about watching the animals on the surface but for sure has a mental list of one's she would not fuck around with.

I don't have names for a lot of the Cauterized wildlife but the guy on the cover is everyone's least(most?) favorite sharp friend on the surface. Huge green monster that prowls around deep wooded areas. Different residents call her different things but Naomi calls it the Jabberwocky based on a song from her childhood.

22: How does jealousy manifest itself in them (they become possessive, they become aloof, etc)? 

Bunnie is for sure a 'I simply won't leave your side' kind of jealous. :) No one else can get too close without also having to deal with her. Possessive, but in a 'I'm taking care of you' way. Having an unrequited crush for 20yrs will do that to you.

She'd never actually get in the way, but she's definitely be making sure you deserve her person and that you're treating them right. And she'd be quick to let you know if you crossed those generally reasonable lines. She totally would not fight you over Naom

B) What inspired you to create them?

Naomi needed a foil and had been one of my characters for years. I was evaluating the team and decided that it needed someone softer to bring it together. This was born Bunnie! And her sister. :) Brook is a more firm character that offsets Bunnie's non-serious demeanor. With Kadin, it created a well rounded team that could play off each other's strengths.

C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?

Bunnie was created to fill in a gap, so it felt like the story always was missing her once I added her in. She brings them together in a way I love and appreciate. Bunnie is the glue to the team, irreplaceable 🙃

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Bunnie went through several rapid design changes. She was loosely based off an old webcomic character of mine named Lo. The blonde hair spilt off to the side comes from that design. When I showed her official design to my brother-in-law, he immediately said she looked like me with blonde hair/no glasses. I sat on that comment and decided to redesign most of my characters to reflect their voice actors. :)

Naomi: 4, 8, & 27

4: How easy is it to earn their trust?

Naomi isn't a particularly trusting person, though she just keeps herself at arms length from others. She has a small group of people she lives and trusts. If one of those people trusted someone, she'd follow suit however.

8: What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child

Naomi was definitely a 'I will not shut up about my special interests' kind of kid and I can imagine her being told to be quiet often. She was a pretty extroverted child before everything happened to her. I imagine being repeatedly told to hold her joy closer to her chest created an adult version of herself that doesn't talk much about what makes them happy.

27: What causes them to feel dread? 

The smell of smoke and the sound of fire both make Naomi's stomach drop. It makes her scars burn. She avoids fire at all costs, which is thankfully generally easy in an underwater base.

B) What inspired you to create them?

Naomi was actually originally a waterbender ATLA OC. This was VERY short lived because I immediately fell in love with the concept of her character. She's for sure a vehicle for my own daddy issues, though she's got it much worse than I do. Naomi really is a character for working through my own issues at age 19. She's not nearly the self-insert she used to be. I've grown a lot in the last 7 years. Naomi's kinda like the scared kid I used to be. I love her very much, like she's a younger version of myself.

C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?

Nope. The story was designed for Naomi. She's the main character, even if it's mostly told by Bunnie. Everything in Cauterized revolves around Naomi ❤️‍🔥

There was a period where I couldn't make sense of her team as a whole and couldn't figure out how they'd make it on the outside. The team was originally just Kadin and Naomi, after all.

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Naomi's appearance has changed a lot. I think I've changed her skin tone more than anything. Where she was an ATLA OC, her race was originally really ambiguous. When I cast you as her, I decided to rebuild her around your favorite parts of yourself, as you know :') Now, I think she feels like the character she should be. Her core character has never changed, but her outside appearance has gradually shifted.

Kadin: 2, 16, & 32

2: How easy is it for your character to laugh?

I like to think Kadin has a good sense of humor and laughs easily. I just think it's only around the right people. Kadin's good friends with the engineer Henry Gertsen. Their actors are good friends IRL. They probably get along really well and cut up together.

16: What makes their stomach turn?

Kadin has a sense of justice and seeing someone hurt really makes his stomach turn. He's not always the best at acting on that feeling, but always takes metal note of the underdog. He keeps watch over them for an opportunity to step in. Cruelty makes him sick, though he can be caught in inaction for fear of retaliation from command.

32:  Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke? 

Kadin, unlike Naomi, actively makes jokes about his burn. "Gotta hand it to him, he had one hell of a grip" type jokes.

B) What inspired you to create them?

Kadin is a really cool character that's hard for me to go into detail about without revealing too many spoilers. He was created to be someone Naomi could rely on. Originally, he was her love interest, though now he's like a complicated almost friend, more co-worker type friendship.

Naomi's kinda scared to interact much with him personally because she wrongly thinks he has some sort of negative feelings towards her over their shared burn origins.

C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?

Kadin was one of the two original main characters, yet I've always kind of struggled with his deeper character. He's got a somewhat cold outer shell, calculating, though he's really a warm person who cares a lot. He's just very cautious and plans or ever move he makes.

Originally he was Naomi's guide on the outside and that's really not changed, he's just not her trainer any more. Funny enough, now Naomi's more his trainer over the bio-raptors at least.

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

They were several years younger in the original. Kadin was 23 or something like that. He's 28 now. Naomi was 19, she's 27 now. Honestly, they've swapped skin tones. Kadin got an overhaul when I cast Mitul as him to match him a little(I'm planning on doing a little more, though).

Kadin was also originally trans and in a sense, that's not changed, but he's not trans in a traditional sense. I'd say he's more he/they/it which is as close to spoilers as I can get.

Brook: 1, 18, 35

1: What’s the maximum amount of time your character can sit still with nothing to do?

Brook is a never sits kind of person. Being forced to be still would probably be torture. She could sit through a lecture or a concert but she'd be totally bouncing her leg the entire time. She'd die after anything longer.

18: What embarrasses them?

Brook would be embarrassed by crushes or by a public slip up during the trials she runs with the bio-raptors. Those, I think, would be hey only two blush buttons.

35:  How do they treat the things their friends come to them excited about? Are they supportive? 

Brook is a very good big sister. She's very protective of Bunnie and looks out for her all the time. Their parents are both scientists in another lab and we're always pretty busy. As the oldest, Brook took it upon herself to fill in wherever needed.

This isn't always a good thing, however. She's not a very big fan of Naomi and could've been a better support to her. She thinks Naomi derailed Bunnie's life. Otherwise, Brook almost can't help taking control of a situation and fixing it. She's over all very supportive.

B) What inspired you to create them?

Bunnie was added for Naomi. In a sense, Brook was added for Kadin. She's a rival, a bright mirror, a foil. I wanted a firm, strong character that would step in when no one else would. She's a very important character to the team.

C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?

She was designed to fill in a gap much the same way Bunnie was. It was pretty easy to let her full the hole in the story she was made for. She's the strong, supportive big sister of the team who's not scared to lay down her truth.

D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?

Brook took a long time for me to settle on a design for. She's the newest character to the show. She's still in her original design as the one painting in doing is the only one I've made so far.

Apart from her place in the team, she's a very self-indulgent 'what I think an attractive woman looks like' + features from my best friend Jess who plays her. I realized after doing most of her character painting that she really just looks like a female version of my husband + a little of my best friend.

How JJ got trapped in a Jar:

A writing exercise borrowing some OCs from @chaosintheavenue. JJ is a bit of a variable character but he is very much of a character who has a big heart but makes comically bad choices. Naomi is variably his girlfriend or just a friend both belong to my friend.

Content Warning: Implied Injury, and arachnids

Naomi leaned over the desk looking at JJ. He was just maybe a couple of inches tall. He was excitedly pacing from one edge to the other. He was so busy trying to explain what happened to Naomi. But she was too busy putting up her hands on both ends of the table.

JJ was always so excited about talking about what he did but this was borderline ridiculous. Naomi could barely half pay attention to what JJ while just trying to keep her friend at the desk.

"So turns out that place they told us not to go to had this cool spider statue..." JJ explained while Naomi caught him and set him back on the desk only for him to turn around and march to the other end.

"Well picked it up. I fell asleep on my desk. And next thing I know I'm this size. I cannot freaking believe this." JJ said just in time for Naomi to catch him on the other end. This time not setting him down. Naomi decided to hold him while he kept moving his legs and arms.

JJ felt a lot like a baby mouse, soft, warm, but he wouldn't stop squirming. Even at normal size he couldn't stop moving around. Now at this size in Naomi's hand he was just tickly.

"This is great news. I can now get so much closer to my spiders, harvestmen, and bugs. A level of understanding I've never had before. " JJ continued.

Naomi sighed and closed her eyes. Taking 3 deep breaths and lifted JJ up so he was at her eye level. Now looking her little boyfriend in the eye Naomi was able to speak to JJ.

"JJ. Where are you right now?" Naomi asked him.

"In my room." JJ answered oblivious.

"You're in my hand. Right now. You're girlfriend is holding you in her hand right now. Are you aware of this fact?" Naomi responded.

"Well obviously. But I didn't think that was the question you were asking."

Naomi closed her eyes again and took 5 deep breaths when she opened her eyes she saw JJ's bright eyes and brighter smile. This was just like the time he kept getting bit by a komodo dragon but he kept insisting on petting it. Even when he was in the hospital he was still smiling.

Now here he was shrunken down. Walking off desks and he was still focused on his bugs.

"JJ, remember the talk we had the last time you got bit by a komodo dragon? Where I said if something was too dangerous for you you'd listen to me?"

"Well yeah. But this is different for a very important reason." JJ said looking defiant.

"Enlighten me."

"Spiders, Harvestmen, and bugs are harmless to humans." JJ said crossing his arms while held in Naomi's hand. Like this was somehow him making a good point while he ignored an important detail.

"JJ... they were harmless when you were normal size. You're small enough to be their food. Have you considered that?" Naomi asked.

JJ looked thoughtful for a moment. Before he finally admitted.

"OK. You may be right. But if you stay here with me. I'll keep safe." JJ said.

This time Naomi didn't bother hiding the fact she was rolling her eyes. She sighed when she finally explained what she was going to do.

"I'm going to look for that spider totem you mentioned. You are going to stay put. You're not going to walk around, you're not going to check out your bugs and you're not going to look after spiders like Mr. Long-Legs."

"Mr. Long-Legs is a Harvestman. Not a spider. And they're arachnids not bugs." JJ said stamping his foot against Naomi's hand. That fact she got an arthropod fact was more important to him than the fact she was telling him not to be around them.

Naomi pressed her finger against his face as she shushed him.

"OK JJ. The fact that's what you're picking at instead of listening is why you're going on time out." Naomi told him. Before JJ could figure out what she meant Naomi pulled over a jar that was recently emptied. It still had a fresh leaf in it that JJ picked up from outside when he found the spider charm.

But other than that it was empty and clean jar.

"This is for your own safety JJ." Naomi said reaching her hand into the jar gently setting JJ down on the leaf.

"Now JJ. Just stay there. I'll be back in a little bit." Naomi said gently pressing her finger tip against JJ's lips. A facsimile of a kiss.

Before Naomi left she couldn't help herself for playing a joke against JJ. Taking some of his masking tape and a black marker she wrote on the tape

"JJ Jar"

Naomi made sure to show it to him. Before putting it on his Jar. JJ always made a good point of labeling his jars before use and had always insisted that Naomi do the same when she borrowed his jars.

"Thank you for labeling." JJ called up to Naomi who waved back while leaving the room. With Naomi gone there wasn't much for JJ to do.

Sitting on the leaf he ran his hand across the green of the leaf. At this size he could see the little fibers of the leaf and even see some of the internal structure. Resembling some of JJ's vessels. Looking at the leaf and at his hand JJ wondered for a moment how his body was still functioning in defiance to the square cube law until he heard a cracking noise.

Looking around the jar JJ expected to see the glass cracking but it was normal as ever. Even through the slightly distorted glass he couldn't see anything that could be causing the cracking noise.

When the cracking could be heard again JJ realized it was coming from beneath him. Underneath the leaf. Sliding down the leaf to the glass JJ crawled across the glass to peak underneath the leaf.

The glass was cold to his touch and it seemed to leach heat away from his hands and knees. But lifting the leaf JJ could see the source of the cracking noise.

Underneath the leaf was an egg sack. Looking like a little piece of cotton. The cracking noise was the little ones on the inside trying to get out.

JJ's first thought was the fact this meant that the jar was mislabeled. His second thought as a translucent set of 8 legs broke from the egg sack and the spiderling was took its first steps in life towards JJ was...

"Babies!" JJ said reaching out a hand to the spiderling. It was about the size of a puppy and it's body was almost completely see through. Normally they were invisible at the human scale but JJ could see it easily now.

He could see fluids pumping through the spiders legs. Similar to hydraulics of a crane. Spiders were too small to use muscle fibers so fluids were used to move their legs around. JJ stared into the spiderlings 8 unblinking eyes and called out.

"Come here little fella." JJ said waving the spiderling over. As it took hesitant steps towards him. Other spiderlings breaking out of the sack and all of their eyes were reflecting JJ while he was focusing on his new friends.

Unable to help himself JJ recited what he knew of baby spiders.

"Egg sacks usually contain thousands of spiders. The mother may set them up where she thinks they get plenty of food. Some spiderlings will actually spin webs to allow them to glide. But some species of spiders are born hungry ready to eat whatever is in sight." JJ finished the last of the spiderlings hatched and all facing him.

Now seeing thousands of little spiders JJ let out a surprised gasp. These were so many more spiders than he originally thought.

"Awwwww come here little guys." JJ said waving then over. Mere moments before the entire brood swarmed over JJ.

When Naomi returned much later holding the spider totem in an oven mitten. When she saw the spiderlings scurrying around the jar. Dropping the totem she ran over to the jar and called down.

"JJ!" Naomi said worried that her boyfriend had been consumed by the spiderlings only to see tiny waving from JJ. He was petting a spiderling that he was holding up to Naomi.

"Can I keep him? I named him Jasper Junior." JJ said holding up the spiderling to Naomi.

When Naomi finished screaming she made JJ clean himself in his bathroom sink 3 times before she finally took some tissues and dried him off.

"I told you spiders are harmless." JJ told her more than once as she checked his freshly cleaned and spider free body for any bites or wounds but he was fine.

With no fresh clothes for him Naomi had to lend him some of her old doll clothes. JJ didn't mind but still Naomi worried that she hurt her boyfriend.

"Are you sure you're alright?" Naomi asked for nearly the hundredth time but JJ still waved it away.

"I told you. Spiders are harmless Naomi." He said. Even dressed in Ken's old clothes he still looked as happy he normally was. Naomi held him on her flat hand.

"Can I sleep with the Jasper Juniors?" JJ asked looking at the now sealed jar full of spiderlings.

"No JJ. I'm not letting you out of my sight." Naomi said laying down on her bed and laying JJ on her chest. Subconsciously close to her heart where JJ could still feel it thumping loudly. Her hand laying on him like a weighted blanket.

Relaxing JJ more than his bed normally did. He would normally need to set up sounds to play at night, turn on an electric blanket, and put on a weighted blanket all at once. But now JJ was laying on Naomi's chest. Her hand heavier than a weighted blanket, her heart more soothing than ocean sounds, and her body warmer than JJ's house had ever been.

Even with the light on JJ let out a long yawn tired from his day.

"I'm sleepy?" He told Naomi. She looked at the clock. Noticing it was only 7:45 PM. But still she could believe he was tired.

"Sleep JJ. Tomorrow we can fix your size." Naomi told him. Her thumb brushing his messy and his neck while he closed his eyes already falling asleep from her body sounds.

While it took longer for Naomi to fall asleep in time she did relax and fall asleep. Enjoying the feeling of JJ's warm and soft body between her fingers. It was a comfort knowing none of the troubles nor travails of the world could bother JJ while he rested here.

She was bigger than all of his troubles, and his safety was as simple as laying her hand across his body. All of the worries in the world seemed to melt away from Naomi while she held her tiny boyfriend.
