(OC Lore and design time!)

(it got longer again ... sorry ... idk how to make things short, i just need to talk, but i guess if you can read the written stuff in the pic thats the barest bare bones of what i wrote here)

i was asked what new lore story stuff i had thought about that made me sad which i mentioned a bit ago, and while that is too hard to explain given all the missing context i thought i could at least talk about lore having to do with it :D

so, (Lord) Eadrya is one of my fav OCs (big blue lad, here a rough sketch in humanoid form) they are both one of if not THE most powerful demon alive and the most battle trained;

at the mid point of the story the demon world gets invaded by the celestials (the angel inspired things i talked about in the previous lore post with Xaror) and Shargon, as the king, should be their first and only frontline, but at this point his life is only being sustained by maschinery after being mortally wounded, he cannot fight (he realizes what is going on, rips himself off the maschinery to get at least his youngest child to safety, barely managing it before dying- the guardian, the demons god, takes over his body to attempt to fight against the celestials but cant keep itself alive long enough since its host is already dead) Eadrya takes the role of the frontline fighter (despite being very full of themselves and aggressive they care about their 'job' of protecting their own, also giving them the chance to show off just how strong they are); the fight was going well for them all things considered, but when the guardian activates it drains the power of all elemental lords (which Eadrya is one of, and since they have the most strength it also takes the most from them), so much so that they lose the fight and suffer deadly wounds (the worst being a spear through the chest made of a material that grows hard, root-like formations when in contact with demonic blood like a fungus but worse, also stopping any self healing processes) after the guardian falls apart it creates a huge shockwave of energy that stuns every living thing within a certain distance and possibly more-

Eadrya (in true demon form, so like a blue whale in size at least) was likely taken through an active gateway to the human world in a large tidal wave also created by the guardians fall; they wash up in the harbor of a small secluded village, the head of which is 'lady 13'; although never having seen a demon before and everyone being afraid (largely thinking its a strange hurt animal, only she suspected otherwise), they still gather all villagers to pull out the celestial spear, which is diffcult and brutal given that its already taken root, but the village lacked both knowledge and means to help any other way- doing so damaged their heart which is how they were able to collect samples of all three demonic blood types ('normal' -red like humans-, energy -essentially purely magic- and heartblood -highly concentrated energy only found within the heart of a demon and the only one to contain genetic material) (this is the start of Eadryas character arc, having to deal with the fact that their world is likely destroyed, them failing what they didnt think they could fail, having lost a battle so badly (even if not really their fault) for the first time and not knowing if literally anyone else has survived .. also being now stuck in the human world, which they dont like)

Lady 13 (placeholder name? stands for experiment 13) is a human that was tricked by demon hunters to enroll into a series of experiments trying to create hybrids of demons and humans, which they hoped would be powerful and easily controllable tools for their endeavours, though the two are inherently not compatible, they tried grafting body parts of demons on humans to make them compatible- all experiments failed except for her, more or less, though she never got to see the hybrid she carried and was then told it had died too, they threw her out believing she wouldnt survive much longer either and all such experiments were cancelled due to the high cost of human life, research material (demons are still rare) and upkeep with no successful results Lady 13 survived though (perhaps even via the pirates picking her up?) and she ended up living in said small village far away, hiding her half demonic body, though most know there soemthing 'wrong' with her (her being this tall when it doesnt fit the rest for one), only few know the full extent; she enjoys the life she has now, perhaps on the more poor side but safer and more loved than ever before; she largely lead the efforts to try and help Eadrya when they ended up in the harbor, though there wasnt that much anyone could do it was still enough- they leave immediately after waking up, but return after really having nowhere to go and struggling to deal with everything that has happened; over time (probably years) they start to open up towards the people there (though not .. very much) enough to get rather close with Lady 13 too- she actually falls madly in love but after Eadrya (extremely aro/ace) rejects all her attempts quite clearly she respects their boundaries

However, after hearing news of potential demon sightings Eadrya decides to leave in hopes of not being the last demon left after all; Lady 13 then decides to reveal her secret to them (though hearing and seeing what lengths hunters would go to for their experiments makes them absolutely seething with rage- she insists on not being out for revenge) and asks if they would be willing to donate a small amount of heartblood; shes always wanted to be a mother but is now incompatible with humans too- through things she picked up back at the experiments facillity, hers and her doctors research she is sure that is all that is needed, she dares to ask since she does not know when, if ever, she will meet another demon, much less one she could actually trust enough for this though Eadrya hesitates (why would she want to go through the same thing again that didnt work and threatened her life, if it does work, do they want to be involved with any of this? what if hunters find out it worked after all?) but after her ensuring that they would have no part in it other than giving up a little blood and would not be considered a parent in any way, nor made responsible for anything that might happen to her, but considering it all in the end they agree to it

only for her to reveal shes had a small bottle of it already, along with multiple samples of the other types, which she collected when Eadrya was bleeding out into the harbor not knowing if they will survive, though not wanting to make use of it without their consent either way (they are actuallly rather touched by this)

alot later the main group returns here and it turns out to have worked (though she is unable to walk/bedridden for a long while bc it did alot of damage to her body, which can heal since its demons parts, but only really slowly bc she does not have a full functioning system and no demonic blood of her own -she uses the other samples for the healing process-) though its a little awkward to explain, especially considering that 13.1 took alot after Eadrya xD (their theory as to why it worked so "well" that time is that even though the sample was already taken, them giving their consent for it still made it less likely to be rejected; demons dont need partners to have offspring, and all can do it, they just have to decide to- so them agreeing to it, even though its long been outside their body, still had an effect on the blood sample)

Tolkien OC Week, Day 1: Worldbuilding

Pale brightness shone from a crack at the end of the lava tube. Bowed to avoid the low arch of the ceiling, Alphes squeezed through the last narrowing. Light burst across her eyes; she gasped deeply in fresh air. Ash hung on the warm thermal that caught and tossed her hair.

She had arrived at last. The Roost -- a jagged valley cut deep into a long-dormant volcano's slim crater, far in the northern reaches of the Misty Mountains.

Wings darkened the sky, casting shifting shadows over her face. Attracted by an outsider's presence, a convocation of eagles many times larger than her amassed on the cliffs above Alphes. Talons scattered stones, sending them tumbling and cracking down cliffs. They hit the lake below and sunk, splashes amplified as the sounds raced up the steep valley's bowl.

Standing upon the lip of a whale's jaw of rock riding out of the vent, Alphes found herself at the dock of a great tribunal.

The Lord of the Eagles settled with a shuffle of his great heavy wings on a small plateau opposite and above her entry point. His talons gripped the stone with enough force to carve furrows in its face.

"Why does an elf come before us on this day?" The Westron clicked from his beak in guttural rumbles, his dark throat feathers quivering.

this all to say, the Great Eagles interest me so much.

HTTYD Antarctica AU

I have been playing with this AU for a while, it's basically a modern HTTYD AU, but the riders are researchers for a base in antarctica. the base is called "the edge" and they bring their pets with them.

Hiccup is a technician and engineer for the base, he brought toothless with him, who I headcanon as a melanistic Norwegian forest cat. he also has his pilot's license and six different 3D printers, and a clock radio that can somehow run Doom.

I want to say that Astrid is the surveyor and radio operator of the group, she often goes out in the plane to conduct surveys of the weather and land, basically a glorified scout. she is also in charge of the base's safety. she is also Hiccup's right hand man, and I head canon stormfly to be a golden blue macaw.

Snotlout is just there to be with his friends and impress his dad. He does do maintenance work and keep log books. he does have a journal about his time at the base that he plans on publishing titled "how the toilet somehow froze over, and other stories from antarctica.". I think I want hookfang to be a Doberman maybe?

Fishlegs is the medic, he once had to perform surgery on himself after his appendix exploded. he survived the surgery, he also once allowed his nieces and nephews to come visit him and Meatlug (who is a kunekune pig) during the summer months.

Ruffnut and tuffnut are just there for the heck of it, they run their own youtube channel that documents their trip, and Tuffnut is the unofficial cook. like Snotlout, they perform odd jobs around the base. there was an incident where they ran out of food and had to wait a week before a new shipment came, all they had in the fridge were a box of lucky charms cereal, ketchup, mustard, sweet chili sauce, a few tortillas, a half eaten tin of kippers, and one of Hiccup's open can of Monster. they had to somehow make a meal out of that. Barf and Belch are a two headed green tree python.

Heather joins the group later as a way to escape her drug addict brother, Dagur. she later goes undercover on board of an illegal whaling ship run by Viggo and his crew and almost gets killed. Windshear is an african grey parrot.

of course this isn't a lord bunny AU without an OC...

Nott never met the riders before until she signs up for the trip as another medic after Fishleg's appendix went boom. she has albinism and is very light sensitive and is legally blind without her glasses that she choses not to wear for just how thick the lenses are, to her they're like two mason jar lids being held together by a wire. she is mostly active at night and is very shy and quiet and is really only seen with Fishlegs. her pet is an axolotl that glows under a black light named Marauder. basically Marauder is a modern day version of the Flightmare.

After this one, I'll start focusing on making "longer" versions of the existing character sheets through the Atlas expansion of Notion. So we can consider these Tumblr posts as "short versions" for now!

Affiliation: Cavalieri Family (Mother Branch, heir)

Birthrates among the Cavalieri family are extremely low, and even lower when it comes to biological males. One would say it’s a curse, but it is in fact a blessing: children born male among the Cavalieri are destined to either a destined death, or oblivion.

If born without the Pallid Flame, they’re considered useless, a waste of flesh, and are normally relegated to low-level jobs among the family. If born with flame, their bodies are doomed to give out early in life, some not even making it to see their adult days. This “event” - because defining it desease would be underestimating it - is called the “Chiamata alle Armi” (Call to Arms).

But the coming of Tristam was truly a miracle. Born with the Pallid Flame and without the gene that causes the Call to Arms, he’s been treated like a gift from heaven itself ever since early age, a ruler fated to bring new life and glory to the Cavalieri Family. The result of his upbringing is a proud, gracious, and seemingly courteous boy who’s been his mother’s most faithful follower and apprentice.

He takes his role very seriously. The young lord has been gathering consensus quickly, and has made strong allies among the family throughout his teenage years. Before him, there's only one documented case of a male-born Cavalieri who possessed the flame and yet lived to old age - the Cavalieri Fifth, Bonfante.

His future is bright, he knows it. And nobody doubts it.

I ended up busy all day yesterday so I decided to add some little drawings to spice up my reply <3 I'm gonna resist yapping about Baldur and Cato for this one, and I'm gonna save our sweet Bjorn and Eret for later yaps. Instead I decided to focus on some other dragon hunter OCs!

People who have read OTWD might remember Sikka for her antler hood or nadder spear, but under the hood she's got incredible tattoos called tunniit. Tunniit are part of the Inuit tattooing tradition that Eret’s tattoos were inspired by. In real life they’re typically seen on women, and these days a lot of women are getting them again to keep their traditions alive, so I decided that based on Eret’s I would give each northern tribe their own kakiniit that identify their tribal affiliation and family. Since our httyd northern tribes live in the Arctic between Greenland and Russia, I figure the tradition probably spread from Greenland! The forehead portion is similar triangle shape for everyone in Sikka’s tribe and represent antlers (there might be variations in exact design based on the family). The chin portion represents one's individual role or honors a family member. Sikka's represents a herder tracking the hoofprints of a reindeer, and her mother had the same. She belongs to the Reindeer Tribe of Reindeer Valley, near Griselda's Fortress and was only 16 when she joined Cato's crew (she's ~21 in OTWD). Griselda refused to hire her at first bc her mother had ended up in a terrible, fatal conflict with one of Griselda's top men that caused controversy between her tribe and the hunting operation, but Cato insisted on giving her a chance. He's extremely proud of her skill and loyalty, and she loves him like a brother, so betraying him in OTWD was not an easy decision. The moment he realizes Sikka's abandoned him is when he decides our heroes have really got to pay, bc he hasn't just lost a payday or even his second chance with Gustav but also his horned shadow. I'm SO excited to see her again in Into the Polar Night, she's going to have a very important role and I think it'll surprise everyone. Hopefully it won't be too long before I post a playlist for her <3

The other two OCs here will only appear in Gustav's short which is tentatively titled How To Hunt Your Dragon LOL

Ragnall is the quartermaster of the Goregutter, the first hunting ship that Gustav and Cato work on, and he's essentially Gustav's boss despite not being much older than him. He manages the ship and deck for the captain Harald Bloodaxe, who handles the business side like choosing where to port and hunt. Ragnall does hunt dragons but he doesn't manage the dragon hold where they're kept, that's up to a slavic man named Wyrmhart (Cato's boss). His mother was the witch Skuld, and he grew up working whaling boats in Thunderhead Bay, and some of the men grumble that he practices witchcraft. He's strict but generally fair, and likes Gustav just because he's a high quality sailor relative to a lot of the hunters. On the other hand, he despises the mainland vikings who are converting to christianity and their christian Saxon neighbors, so he's particularly prejudiced against Cato, who barely even speaks fluent norse at this point (if he'd bother to ask, he'd learn that Cato isn't a christian, but you know how prejudices are). Ragnall is pretty important to the overall OTWD series for a few different reasons actually, so I can't wait to write his story. I think everyone will find it shocking and fun hehe >:)

Siraj is the 19 year old son of an extremely wealthy trade lord from Marrakesh who pays to bring a lot of Griselda's cargo through the Mediterranean. He's apprenticing under Harald and Ragnall to learn the ropes (literally) of sailing and managing a trade business because his father wants him to have practical knowledge before taking over the business, since he's been raised in a very privileged and comfortable life. He went to university in Marrakesh, so he speaks multiple languages and really boggles Gustav's mind with his knowledge haha. He's really sociable and is Gustav's first friend on the Goregutter, they have a fun gang of friends. The only thing he's not involved with is the actual dragon hunting, since that has nothing to do with running a trade empire. He does go home after his time on the Goregutter so he isn't involved in the plot of ITPN or TOTG, but I imagine that he keeps traveling all over the Silk Road and making friends everywhere before taking over his dad's business.

Whew that was some MAJOR yapping but I'm so glad for the chance to talk about some of my dragon hunters. A lot of the hunters are just background people to me, like the background Berserkers, and I don't really consider them OCs, but these three definitely are <33 my actual reaction to this ask:

Queen Salacia (For those who don't know, in Roman Legends, Salacia was the Goddess of the Sea as well as the Actual Wife of Neptune (her Counterpart was Amphitrite, a Greek Goddess who was Poseidon's Wife). However, considering that the Franchise has secretly done an Alternate "Wife Swap" idea between the Consorts of the Greek/Roman Sea Gods, Salacia did appear in a Cameo of the Third Movie, regarding if it could be truly her or not. There was also a Semi-Design of Her through Concept Arts behind the Third Movie that I did found through ArtStation by 3D Developer (Michael Defeo). I have another passage that is quite a bit longer but I think I still want to tweak it a little before I share it. So here's this description of a dude who dies in the first chapter. This definitely won't come up again or be important to the plot twenty chapters later.

My 40k-OCs (so far)

Johanna: Very grumpy, very old terran-born Dark Angel. She is very no-nonsense, get the job done and move on and has a weakness for orbital bombardement. Do not misgender her or you get a heavy flamer to your face. She also has pretty severe dysphoria and thus is basically always wearing armor and just generally a lot of issues from multiple centuries of basically always figthing. And post-heresy she becomes the chapter master of my homebrew chapter, the Archangels.

Inia: Also known as Pretty Boy. Originally from the Second Legion, but he stayed loyal enough and now Johanna has to deal with him. They end up in a „They have been a couple for how long?!“-situation. He is very upbeat, very dramatic and has a thing for cannibalism and a gigantic oversized anime-sword. He‘s very gender. My whole second Legion is based on mermaids and whales and sirens and Inia is very siren-y. Also he absolutly has opinions on which traitor-legion tastes the best.

Ishtor: Thunder Warrior I made up for a one-shot and got attached to. He and Johanna were friends and then he died

Nia-9: Tiny Tech-Priest. She has been travelling with Johanna since the start of the great crusade and the two has been best friends for a very long time, do not attempt to seperate them. Also of course all the archeology she conducts is completly ethical (by the standards of the mechanicus)

3V-α-14142 (EVA): Nia‘s favorite creation, a heavily costumized Skitari serving as her bodyguard, research assistent and secretary. Technically there have been multiple EVA‘s because sometimes they die

Annabella: Originally the thirteenth bastard of a minor Caliban noble, later becomes a Space Marine and then goes renegade. At least a little bit chaos-touched, but won‘t admit it. Scarlet Roserio: Last of a exiled Navigator-house. Stupidly rich and has approximatly a thousand health issues. Annie crashlanded in her backyard and now the two are gay space pirates for each other.

Umbra: Psyker Night Lord that kind of hangs out with the pirate-warband. His grip on reality is less than good and he likes to mutter about inevitable doom. Also he is definetly in cahoot with some minor warp-entities and has a whole pack of hunting dogs.

Everything hurts, it's agonising and Elijah's terrified. Blood is building up in his throat, he thinks he can feel some of it dribbling out of the tear in his neck but he can't tell because he's being eaten alive. 

Torn apart by him, no, it. The thing he thought was his friend yet here he is: getting his organs ripped out by its inhuman clawed hands. Everything hurts yet it's all going numb. He wants to go home. 

Blood continues to bubble up in his throat and he chokes on both it and a sob, he wishes he never went to this Church. He wishes he went with the girls instead of staying with the thing currently eating him. Oh god it's eating him. 

Elijah coughs and gasps, choking on his own blood as it spills out of his mouth and down his chin. He hates the metallic taste and smell as it fills his nostrils, it's even worse than his nightly nosebleeds- 

A silent scream escapes his brutalised throat, broken, tattered legs kicking out desperately as he feels it claw at his insides. It hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts- he wails and sobs, silently or audibly he can't tell over the pain. It blinds and deafens him and he can't breathe. 

He's choking, drowning, on his own blood. It's filling his throat, his lung (yes lung, it tore the other one to shreds some point earlier) and his mouth, he's dying. He's dying, this isn't fair, he's dying, he doesn't want to, it hurts! 

He wants to scream for help but he can't because he's choking on drowning in his own blood the stomach of the whale. What did he do to deserve this? He doesn't want this. He wants to go home, to be in his nice warm bed, reading a comic book under the covers as he's half asleep. He doesn't want to be on cold wooden floors, soaked in his own blood as he's torn apart. 

Another cough, another gag, more blood. It's pouring out of his nose too now and he desperately moves his head around trying to get into some position where he can breathe but the damn thing has him pinned down. He can't move, he's dying. Why didn't he leave when he had the chance? 

His heart’s slowing, everything's going fuzzy and he's desperately trying to gasp for air but nothings working. He won't see Layla, his baby sister again will be? Tears mix with the blood as his mind drifts and dies, he won't see his dad either or his friends NOT HIM or mama. 

He wants his mama. 

It takes seventeen minutes and thirty three seconds for Elijah Jonah Santos-Mãldonado to die.

Personality

A young merfolk girl that is first time on surface, or so-called "dry land". Curious about new suroundings she still has a lot to learn about living customs in here (such as not drinking from puddles). She is positive and friendly, but her naive nature makes her easy to take advantage of. While appearing to be childish at first, Flossy can be serious and is capable of strategical thinking during combat.

She wishes for all her dorm mates to get along as one team, but that is far from happening.

Triva

-Her birthday date is the same as release date of manga issue with first appearance of her based character.

-Flossy is terrified of being dehydrated. She always carries some drink with her like her life is depending on it. She is also scared of whales.

-Durning her first weeks on land Flossy had some problems with movement coordination. Currently, her movements are more controlled, although sometimes she still has trouble keeping balance.

-Flossy and Elvira know each other from times before DAC, but she currently befriended and spends more time with Joel. She tries to make them get along with each other, but always ends up with no success.

-She was once in Forensics Club but got kicked out for drinking evidence. In Gardering Club she takes care of water plants in pond.

-Owns baseball bat with many signatures from famous players, and still collects more.

-Nobody from school, not even teachers saw her merfolk form (not that she isn't it or anything). Still, even in human form she is a very good swimmer.

OC-time

Loft (aka Loki, Lafayette, Lokko, and other names starting with the letter L) - the main demon of hell in one of the parallel versions of the universe. Loft is a multifaceted entity that changes every moment. His bodily image is very unstable, and if now he looks like a person, then in a minute he can look like a horned whale made of oil foam.

Loft is a hermaphrodite, he bore children himself, but also became a father (he has hundreds of thousands of children).

Distinctive features: small red horns and endlessly long hair, which connects Loft to the Dark Tree, which is the "evil" half of the World Tree.

Loft was never a human. Before the fall, he was one of the first angels who helped Lucifer take care of the World Tree (at that time the worlds had not yet matured on the Tree).

Loft has a very low voice, almost reaching infrasound, as well as a smile on his face and always a playful mood. To restore energy lost in battle, Loft can take the form of any animal, but in principle chooses the form of a cat or snake.

Lord of Angels (Lord) is the highest angel in heaven, the opposite of the demon Loft. Lord watches over the Light Tree, helps maintain the balance of world energies, and he also protects world borders (they do this together with Loft). Before becoming an angel, Lord lived a human life - he was the leader of an ancient tribe. Lord is very ancient, but compared to Loft, he is very young. The gigantic age difference does not harm the Lord's dignity and does not prevent him from putting demons in their place.

Lord of Angels has a Nordic character, steadfast endurance and incredible calm. He meditates a lot, processing energy. When he loses energy in battle, he takes the form of a white dove with lacy feathers. This dove, by the way, is much more tactile than Lord of Angels himself, because his main task is to fill himself with strength in any way.

Lord of Angels and the demon Loft. they're quarreling again.

Demon Loft and the Lord of Angels never seriously quarreled, because before Lord appeared in Heaven, various high angels had already replaced each other, and Loft learned to get acquainted with the right notes and maintain optimally good relations with them.

Happy STS! What’s a random piece of backstory about one of your OCs that you’ve never shared, either in the story or elsewhere?

Ooh, this is an interesting one!

There are a few interesting things, though some of them are going to be shown in the story as parts of plot twists, so they don't count for the answer to this ask, lol! But I have plenty of other little pieces of backstory for some of my characters, that have never been shared but I find important for the overall understanding of who they currently are.

Here go a few:

Emryc Thorne's father was a magician, the kind that performs tricks and illusions and does not actually use real magic. Emryc was fascinated by those skills and wanted to grow up to be like him, but then the Blood Curse plague swept through their city, and his father died because of it. This forced Emryc to become a thief to survive, though he used the skills and tricks he'd learned from his father, something that not only made him successful in his heists but also kept him close to his memory.

Nadinne Ahmirah once had a sea monster as a pet, she named the little whale/shark monster Mister Truffles. When she was around six years old, her family's navy came across a wounded baby sea monster whose mom had died - presumably due to an attack by another sea monster - and she insisted she could keep it as a pet until it got big enough to go back to the sea. Now, more than ten years later, the enourmous whale/shark-like creature has long since been returned to the sea, but it likes to hang around a nearby bay and comes to visit Nadinne at the beach every afternoon.

When Lord Nethen Fahris was a small child, he was rather emotionally neglected by his family, who barely had time for him due to their duties and the fact that he was a bastard son (something that they kept hidden under lock and key, but which drove a wedge in his relationship with his "mom" who was unable to have children of her own). They eventually got a servant to care for him - a captive elf named Elain that was in his late teens. At first, Elain just cared for him because he didn't have much of a choice and because it was his duty, but eventually he grew to care for Nethen like his own family, something that the boy had never had before. (Elain raised him more than the boy's parents ever did, like actually taught him things, listened to him, watched over him, kept him out of trouble, played with him when the other noble kids didn't want to, supported him, made sure he was eating well, all the stuff a parent should do). They became friends, but a few years later, a mistake made by Nethen angered the Emperor and had terrible consequences. His father wanted to get in the Emperor's good graces again, and so he put the blame for the accident his son had caused (which shouldn't have been a problem, to begin with since he was a child) on the boy's tutor, Elain, who was executed. Nethen never forgave his family for this and swore he would never again allow himself to make a mistake.

Darian and Tanwin met for the first time while Darian, the human boy, was exploring the woods around his home kingdom of Ergyre looking for potion-making components. Tanwin decided to help him out and this was the start of their friendship.
