Chapter 23 // Chapter 25

“Persephone," Regulus complains rolling his eyes. "How long are you going to be like this?"

"Until you tell me the truth.”

"You can't hold me forever.”

"Try me,” I tighten my grip around his torso and he sighs.

“There's no truth, I don’t hide anything from you.”

"I know you lie, I've known you since you were a baby.”

"Perse- let me go!"

"No!"

He grunts and falls silent and looks around, a bit embarrassed at the attention we're getting. I'm about to tell him something else, but a sneeze interrupts me.

“You're still sick and you’ll make me catch it too if you continue in this way!"

"It's worth it, so you won't go out with your mysterious friends anymore!”

"Ok, I'll tell you, but please let me go!”

Little by little I obey and we both stand face to face. He fidgets uncomfortably.

"It's not something… it's complicated, Persephone."

"I'm worried about you, Reg. Sirius told me that–”

"Wait, Sirius?" He asks raising an eyebrow.

"He saw you with Rosier, come on Reg, you always hated them, what’s changed?"

"Now you believe my brother?"

"Don't change the subject," I point out. "Why were you with them?"

"Nothing, it's a boys’ thing" he shrugs.

"Oh, come on. That doesn't work for me.”

"You can't know, Persephone," he says suddenly serious. "You better not go where it does not concern you.”

He walks past me and his shoulder bumps with mine. Never since I knew him had he treated me like this. He asks for space, and obviously I won't give it to him, he's hiding something from me and I must find out.

Trixie left, Sirius is acting suspiciously nice, I’ve to catch up on my assignments, Remus following me like a shadow and my cold, which is almost out of my system, but I'm still sneezing. And I can't enjoy winter, I’d love to see snow cover the school, but no.

What else can go wrong?

I walk into the Great Hall and sit at the lion's table. Jenna’s on my left, Lily is on my right, while Remus is in front of me and Peter’s next to him.

"And the other two musketeers?" I ask him. Remus shrugs.

"They've been acting pretty weird lately."

We didn’t give it importance and we continued talking. Lily’s explaining to me something they did in the history of magic, but I was distracted the moment two Ravenclaw girls passed very close to Remus, they see him with a smile, whisper something, laugh and continue on their way.

Lupin also notices but he just looks down and his cheeks turn red.

"What just happened?" I say interrupting Lily.

"It doesn't matter," Remus whispers.

"You say it like it's happened to you before, Wolfie," I raise an eyebrow and he just shakes his head.

"Didn't the girls leave you alone?" Lily adds looking at him worriedly.

"Wait, which girls?"

Remus looks at her pleadingly not to say anything to me, but Lily ignores him.

“Some girls find what happened with Trixie and Remus very funny. 'I can't believe she noticed him' and 'He's the worst of the marauders' is what they say–”

"They say what?!”

"Percy, forget it, it's not worth it,” Remus says trying to calm me down.

"Of course, those lies are not worth giving importance to–”

“No they aren't. They are right though, everyone is. I'm a laughingstock.”

"You can’t be serious.” I can't believe Remus thinks that. His eyes look at me sadly and I feel my heart shrink.

"Remus John Lupin stop thinking like that!” He rolls his eyes.

"Percy the faster I accept it, the less damage."

“I’m offended!"

“Persephone,” Lily warns me, but I ignore her.

"I can't understand how you think like that, Remus."

“Percy…”

“No, I will not allow it. If you only saw yourself as I do, you would think differently. You’re one of the best people I’ve ever met. You’re kind, intelligent, you defend your friends and family, you’re stronger than you think! You still don't believe me?"

He scratches the back of his neck.

"Remus, you’ve helped me in so many ways, I cannot see you as a bad person, or as a loser, do not compare yourself with your friends, everyone has their qualities and if others don’t see how incredible you are, then they lose. Besides, that's better since I'll have more of you all to myself,” I joke and he smirks.

"Thanks, Percy."

I want to answer, but I see another group of girls in the distance who point to my friend. My body feels tense and I stand up despite Remus and Lily's warnings.

"Hey!" I yell at the group and they stop laughing. "If you want to keep talking about Remus, it’d be better to say it to our face and not just laugh like kids and then run away!" The girls blush and try to hide at their table. Now I have the undivided attention of others. “And this goes for everyone else, why don't you get a life instead of continuing to talk about what happened with Trixie? She’s gone, stop being idiots and let others live!” I glance at Remus. “Remus Lupin is one of the best people who have studied here and is much better than the vast majority of you.”

Some others whisper among themselves. I ignore it and sit down again. I've never seen Remus so flushed, but at least he's smiling.

"You didn’t have to do that.”

“A ‘thank you’ would’ve been nice,” I joke and he laughs.

"Don't worry, Remus. Surely after that speech, the girls will be behind you,” adds Jenna sarcastically.

"Yeah sure," He snorts.

“Hey!" I complain "Didn't you just hear what I just said?”

"Thanks, Percy. But you have to admit that I’ve never been good at romantic relationships."

“What?"

"Name a girlfriend of mine, skipping the devil," He says with an amused smile at the nickname.

I think for a few minutes and realize that it’s true. Remus hasn't had a girlfriend. I completely ignore the thought of my older sister having a crush on him.

"It doesn't matter, you’ll find a great girl, who’ll have to be approved by Lily and me,” Lily rolls her eyes. "All in good time, Wolfie. Soon you will have to reject your admirers.” He laughs.

"Surely.”

"Enough of so much negativity! You’re a very handsome boy, any girl would die to be with you!”

"Whatever you say, Percy,” I don't like the way he says it. How can he not tell how wonderful he is?

“Remus," I complain.

"Okay, maybe you're right, but I don't think any girl would-"

I don't let him finish, I pull his shirt to bring him closer and I kiss him, closing my eyes. I never would have believed that Remus' lips were so soft and delicate. For a few seconds I feel that he wants to reciprocate the kiss and- damn- he’s good. But the kiss suddenly ends when he pushes me away. I open my eyes and meet his pale expression and that's when I realize what I just did.

Holy shit.

I sit back on the bench and I can feel many glances on me.

"P?" Jenna asks, but I don't dare look at her, I keep staring at Remus.

"Uh, that- that's a test… maybe now everyone will notice you?” I stutter.

I grab my bag and run out of the large dining room with my eyes downcast to avoid everyone's stares.

What else can go wrong?

“Sirius?"

"Only this happens to you.”

"Thanks for the support.”

"Why the fuck did you kiss him?"

"I don't know, Jenna!"

"Do you know what you need?"

"Kill myself?"

"No, a girls' night" she says excitedly and I complain.

"Not again…”

The girls have been having sleepovers for a long time and Jenna has always invited me, but I always decline. I know Lily's friends are good and our relationship has improved and blah blah blah. But I’ve never been one of those things, now less, they’ll want to ask about what happened.

"Come on, I just ask you to be one night!"

"That's what everyone says," I say putting a hand on my chest exaggerating. Jenna sighs.

“Please?"

"But they’ll about ask what happened and talk nonsense and I'm going to be uncomfortable…”

"P, If you feel like this, I’ll give you permission to go, please, just one night!"

I see her pleading face and I growl.

"At least I hope sweets.”

“Sure."

We were silent for a few seconds.

“Don’t you really know why you kissed Remus?"

“No!"

"There must be a reason…”

"Well, I don't have it.”

“P…”

I pout.

"Stop scolding me,” I say taking my green blanket and putting it over my head. Jenna sighs.

"We were just coming off the Trixie drama and now you come up with this!”

"You're going to make me cry.”

"I think that's my job," says a third voice. We look up and behind our couch is my older sister.

"I don't want to see anyone anymore, come back later or never, thank you.” I complain now, covering my face behind the blanket.

I feel the chair move and I hear a little "I'm sorry" from Jenna.

"They say you were in the infirmary.”

I uncover my face and glare at my sister.

"Yes, like three years ago, thanks for worrying, sister."

She rolls her eyes.

“Not all your rumors interest me and most are false. Like that one about you kissing Lupin,” She says disinterestedly or so it seems because her eyes are towards the fireplace.

My body tenses.

"Er, haha, yes, people make up a lot of things…”

“Did you?" She says suddenly, her voice fails a bit.

"I didn’t plan to fall into the black lake,” Felix did.

"You know I'm not talking about that.”

What, this is not the invisibility blanket?

“Juno…”

"Is it because of what you read in my journal?"

“It's not what you think, I don't know why I kissed him, I don't understand, I'm trying not to panic, but come on Juno. Your crush with Remus was nothing serious, was it?"

"That does not entitle you to–”

"You sound like dad already,” I wince.

"At least I'm on his side.”

“Now, let's talk about family favoritism!”

"It is not necessary, we both know that you’re no longer on that list.”

I grunt.

“Is that what you came to then? To claim something from me that you have no right to and to emphasize the obvious– don’t you have something else to do?"

Her response was a clean slap on my innocent cheek.

“You’re a mess, Persephone. You always were, now the whole family knows it and soon all the important people of the magical world will know it too,” She says and smiles falsely. “Can’t wait to see you at the meeting,” She ends and then walks away.

“Ouch…" I rub my cheek.

New Harry Potter OC: Juno Rosier

Faceclaim: Cameron Boyce (R.I.P)

Full name: Juno Evan Rosier

Gender: Male

Nationality: Brittish

Birthdate: April 16 1980

Blood Status: Pureblood

House: Ravenclaw

Wand: Laurel, Unicorn tail hair, 8 inches, Supple.

Backstory:

Juno was born in to the rich and powerful pureblood family the Rosiers. He was born to Augustus Rosier and Galatea Rosier (née Lestrange). He got his first name from the roman deity and his middle name from his uncle Evan who was killed by Mad Eye Moody before he was born.

Personality:

Juno starts off with a very pessmistic view of his own life because his parents have basically already planned it out for him without giving him a say in it. You could also say that his personality is quite repressed because of being born into a strict high society pureblood family and constantly having to put on a facade of ideals he dosen’t agree, pretending to like people he dosen’t care for and acting as if he’s okay with his parents having control of his future.

So when Juno starts at Hogwarts he’s already quite fed up with the expectations put on him and acts quite reserved and cold, especially as he’s sorted in to Ravenclaw because he feels as if he’s wrong for not being sorted in to Slytherin.

But behind all that there is a boy who is polite but not afraid to make lewd remarks. He can be feisty and strong willed. He is very passionate about the things he loves and learning new things. He’s interested in learning all kinds of things like his school subjects, instruments and has a million dreams for his future. Besides the point but his guilty pleasure is a bit of gossip.

Friends:

Cho Chang

Cho was the first friend Juno made at Hogwarts as he was sorted in to Ravenclaw. She noticed that he seemed a bit distracted and lonely after he was sorted and tried to make conversation with him. Cho made it her mission to make him feel welcomed in Ravenclaw. Juno saw her efforts at last and gave Cho a chance and the two became friends.

Hermione Granger

Juno didn’t get to know Hermione until his second year and was at first reluctant to befriend her because about what his parents taught him about blood purity. But as the Chamber of Secrets is opened and muggleborns start being attacked Juno realises how stupid he’s being and how stupid pureblood superiority is and he decides to befriend Hermione and tries to be around her so she dosen’t get attacked.

Harry Potter and Ron Weasley

These two he also befriends during second year but they take a little longer time to warm up to him. When Juno becomes friends with Hermione the two are convinced he has some ulterior motive and is probably like Draco Malfoy in reality. But when Hermione gets petrified Juno basically forces his way in to the plot to figure out who the heir of Slytherin is and goes with Harry, Ron and Fang in to the forbidden forest. The two then realise he isn’t so bad and starts seeing him as there friend.

Luna Lovegood

He meets Luna on the train during second year and finds her way of life very interesting, he also finds her very sweet and likes that she can be herself even when people are assholes to her. So now he’s basically Luna’s protector at school and has cursed many people who’ve been mean to her.

Several others

When he became friends with Cho he basically became part of the popular crowd and met a lot of other people he then befriended like Fred and George Weasley, Cedric Diggory, the Ravenclaw and Gryffindor quidditch teams.

Random facts:

He’s a synesthetic, more specifically he has chromosthesia which is when you see different colors and shapes when you hear sounds.

He plays the piano and later learns to play electric guitar and bass.

He’s a pretty solid O to E student

He’s half french on his fathers side and is fluid in french.

Opening up about his feelings.

His synesthesia sometimes makes him lose consentration because he gets distracted by the colors and shapes he sees. Like sometimes during lessons when he hears someone humming it and it makes him see a pretty color and he loses focus on what he’s reading or writing.

I don't remember if I had already cast an actor for Alphard, but I decided that Bill Hader is the one.

Chapter 26 / Chapter 28

I walk down the hall of my house until I reach the fireplace in the living room, my parents are already waiting for me. My mother adjusts a strand of my loose hair and looks me up and down, then nods in approval.

I sigh and take one last look at my short-sleeved green dress, with a different-hued ribbon under my chest and the rest of it loose almost reaching the floor. My father sees us and takes our hands, we leave to where the big event will be. I feel a knot in my stomach as we apparate just outside the front door, but I compose myself quickly.

"I don't want any stupid games, Persephone," orders Dad in a deep voice, glancing at me. I just nod, while trying to contain the shaking in my hands and legs.

My mother knocks on the door and Abraxas Malfoy opens it. Both men greet each other with a handshake, and then the blond kisses my mother's cheek.

"Persephone, I've heard a lot about you," He says raising an eyebrow.

"Good evening, Mr. Malfoy," I reply politely. He nods.

"Your daughter Juno is here already, I must say, Ares, she reminds me a lot of you."

I shiver at the comment. My older sister did a lot of planning to arrive with the family of one of her friends. I don't know the details, Kles –our house elf– could only tell me the basics. I guess that plan was the best for everyone.

Abraxas lets us in and the next hour is utterly overwhelming, among so many presentations and congratulations on the wedding. There are a lot of people I don't remember and haven't even met before, but they’re basically the same: giggling falsely, earning points for us to invite them to the wedding, compliments, boring jokes, even people my age behaved that way. At some point in the night, I lose my parents and can only turn my head from side to side in search of someone I know.

"You look like a cagged animal..."

I jump in place when I hear his voice, but I thank all the gods that James found me.

"I feel like one," I growl and eye up his outfit. "Who would say you could look good wearing a tux, Potter?"

"Oh, let's not start with the compliments, Singh. I'm sure Sirius won’t take long and we don't want a scene of jealousy so soon."

I roll my eyes, but I can't help smile a little.

“How many times have you avoided puking in the past hour? I almost died of fright a while ago when I spoke with Bellatrix and Narcissa Black," He says, feigning a chill.

I wince, no one has fond memories of Sirius's cousins.

"I have only felt a lot of discomfort with the congratulations and hints about the honeymoon," now I shiver. "I’ve been hanging in there."

"A while ago I saw Jenna talking to the Rosiers," He tells me.

"Oh, that’ll be fun," I frown. "Are you aware of what is happening throughout the whole party?"

He smiles.

"It's not to show off, but when something’s important, I do things right."

"Isn't school important?"

"Trifles," He says, shaking his hand carelessly making me laugh.

We talked about nonsense for a few minutes. The tension that I had with James before is gradually disappearing, which I appreciate, although sometimes he makes fun of me when some lady congratulates me, she asks about Sirius, obviously, I have to answer politely, which is truly funny to him.

"Persephone," says a man and I smile at him.

"Hi, Apollo," His arms briefly surround my body, my older brother is not always very affectionate, but I don’t complain. "How are Jane and Atlas?"

My older brother's baby was born a couple of months ago, I still remember the letter Jane sent me, she was very excited. Unfortunately I haven't been able to meet him, but I can't wait.

"Both are fine. She stayed to take care of him along with her mother so that Jane could also rest, we have not been able to sleep well since he was born,” he laughs.

James clears his throat for attention and I roll my eyes to then introduce him to Apollo.

"Potter, huh? I know your parents."

"It's a pleasure to meet a member of the Singh family who doesn't seem to be crazy," he jokes and I hit his shoulder.

"And Sirius?" Apollo asks me.

"We have no idea, I haven't seen him," I shrug.

"Surely he’s trying not to cry with his parents."

I nod and suddenly, Apollo’s distracted looking at some people in the background. James and I try to see them, but my brother takes my hand.

"Will you excuse us for a minute?" He asks James and he nods. Apollo takes me a bit away from where we were.

"What's going on?"

“I know the situation with our father is delicate, but I need you to stay alert. You and Sirius. Look for him as soon as possible. There are some things planned and they’ll most likely want you as an ally. If someone wants to set him aside for some ‘men's talk’ or ‘business’ make up something so you don’t get too far away or if you can stay with him, stay.” He says nervously.

"Does this have to do with what... happened last summer?"

My brother nods.

"I’d tell you not to do anything to get attention, but that’s impossible for you," he says with a small smile.

"I don’t know what you’re talking about."

"Just be careful, dear girl..." Before I can answer, he walks away.

“Miss, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but haven't you seen my nephew? He’s tall, with long black hair– looks like a girl– he’s clumsy and has a bad character."

I do my best not to laugh loudly when Alphard stands to my side.

“Haven't seen him, but that’s a good description," He laughs.

"My dear Persephone, as always, it's nice to see you,” He hugs me and unlike my brother, his hug is warmer.

“Likewise. I'm sorry I didn't send you many letters while I was at school,” I say with a grimace.

"Don’t worry honey. Sirius has brought me up to speed,” He says winking at me and I can feel my cheeks burning. "Besides coming to greet you, they sent me to let you know that you should be with your family… Almost everyone has arrived and the Malfoys will say some boring words to start with an even more boring dance, but then we'll eat something and–" He looks around to make sure no one hears him. "You don't know this from me, but I think there will be shrimp," He whispers.

I laugh and nod, I say goodbye to him and look for my family, which doesn't take long.

My parents talk to Jenna's family and my siblings are with them. Apollo, Isis with her boring husband, Balder and Juno talking about something serious and they shut up when they see me.

"Oh dear, shouldn't you be with the Blacks?" Isis says with a mocking smile.

“They’re not married yet, Isis. Behave!” My mother scolds her.

“Hi, P,” Jenna greets me and I hug her quickly.

"Do you think it's too late to run away?"

"I already tried," She answers.

After a few minutes of getting everyone settled, I hear my mother greet another family that has just arrived.

"What take you so long?" She asks them. I turn to meet the Black family.

"Some complications, my dear," Walburga answers with a tight smile.

As the adults speak, Sirius walks over to me and I do my best not to ogle when I see him, but he doesn't make it easy for me, especially when the little scratches on his face -almost healed- make him look more attractive.

"Hey," He tells me. "You look beautiful."

How do I breathe?

"Thank you. You look good too,” I say adjusting his black tie in an act of nervousness.

"I promised not to cry when this happened, but I’m crying," says Alphard from behind us.

"Uncle, please," Sirius replies, standing next to me.

"I wish Jane was here," says the man pretending to wipe away a tear.

Behind him, Regulus approaches in a tuxedo of a different color from his brother's.

"Hi Reg," I say smiling, but it doesn't last long when he just greets me with a nod and then joins his parents, I follow him with my eyes.

"What's wrong with the little Black?" asks Alphard.

"We don't know," Sirius replies taking my hand. "Easy, I'll talk to him," he whispers. I nod.

"Are you holding hands?!"

I roll my eyes at the man's comment and he laughs.

"You're just in time, Black," says Jenna putting his hand on Sirius's shoulder. “Between Persephone and Potter they were about to cry when they didn't see you,” She jokes and Sirius raises eyebrow.

"It was just James," I assure him.

After some banter, Abraxas catches everyone's attention and, as Alphard said, his speech is boring, only for him to eventually invite a few couples to dance in the center of the room. My parents go together with Sirius's and Jenna's.

"I don't want to scare you, but you’ll have to go dance when Ares says so," Alphard tells us.

We both nod.

It's not that I’m bad at dancing, my parents forced us to take classes, it's just a waltz, but so much attention makes me nervous. This isn’t like school where I just ignore everyone, here I can feel my father's gaze. After a song, Isis enters with her husband and Balder with a girl that I cannot recognize.

"If I ever have to dance with someone, I'll go to the bathroom," Jenna tells me.

“I don't think you'll save yourself,” Sirius tells her. “I already tried to do that and they’re making sure we don't take too long. You better find James before someone else invites you."

Jenna's eyes widen and she doesn't wait long before running off.

"My dear sister is already scolding me from afar," says Alphard pointing to Walburga, who dances while looking at her brother with cold eyes. Sirius and I laugh when Alphard waves at her. "I'll go get a drink or find a sweet lad- wait," He says, raising his head a little and then laughing in a way that makes some guests uncomfortable. "I can't believe it! Eliot Flint?"

Sirius and I follow his gaze and see a man, roughly Alphard's age, walking towards us with a huge grin.

"If I’d known you’d be here, I wouldn’t have thrown my wife into a tantrum!" says the brown-haired man.

Alphard laughs and they both hug each other.

"I can't believe you're here! Oh!" says Alphard. "Walburga will die if he sees you here!" He claps like a small child.

I laugh at his attitude and that's when both adults realize of our presence.

"Eliot, let me introduce you to my nephew Sirius and..." He sees us with a mischievous smile "His girlfriend, Persephone."

I bite the inside of my cheek to avoid saying anything at his comment and shake the hand Eliot offers me.

"I don't want to be one of those corny gentlemen, but I have to be, Sirius. I haven't seen you since you were a baby, I'm glad you grew up into a healthy young man."

Sirius laughs, while Alphard nudges his friend.

“You’ve always been a lord, Eliot. Since we went to school,” He puts an arm around his shoulders and draws him closer affectionately. "This man and I had lots of adventures at Hogwarts, but what we enjoyed the most were his loony inventions, he always had the need to do something crazy with what we could find!"

Eliot gets a bit red and laughs. It's really fun to see Sirius' uncle so relaxed next to another adult other than my sister-in-law. And seeing them together, I can get an idea of why they have such a great friendship. Eliot wears a light brown suit, but it is not perfectly ironed or groomed like other men at the party and his brown beard gives him a more carefree look, which matches perfectly with Alphard's blue suit, that looks like he simply could not bother himself to make it look neater. His shoes aren’t even matching the rest correctly.

"I can imagine you spent many days in detention," Sirius says with a raised eyebrow.

"Stop there," says Alphard "Maybe some inventions or plans worked, but we didn’t have the record that you have, young man!”

"So you got yourself a troublesome boy?" Eliot asks me and I feel my cheeks burn.

"Something like that," I say. Beside me I feel Sirius's body tense a bit, but I don't dare look at him.

Alphard is distracted looking towards the hall. “Sorry guys, but your time to shine has come. It's your turn.”

We both look towards the living room, I take Sirius's hand slowly and sigh hoping nothing bad happens.

"Good luck, it was a pleasure seeing you," Eliot tells us with a smile that we reciprocate. "I'll see you soon, Black. Adeline must be expecting a dance too.” They both say goodbye and get lost in the crowd.

I feel a knot in my stomach, I take Sirius's hand more securely and he guides me towards the dance floor. We stop in a part a bit away from our parents, Sirius puts one hand on my waist and the other on my hand, while I put my free hand on his shoulder. We both follow the rhythm of the music without rushing.

"Everything is going well and that's not good," I whisper worriedly.

"I wouldn't say that," He says and I look at him confused. "Maybe I had a little fight with my mother before I came."

"That's why you were late," He nods.

"I managed to hear that she was talking to my father about a movement and that they must be alert for me to be someone's right hand."

My body tenses at the memory of Apollo's words. I tell Sirius about the warning.

"This is getting weirder," He says and then smiles. "But don't worry..." He whispers and with his hand on my waist he makes me get closer. "I'll keep you close."

"Who would say that last year you couldn't even stand next to me in the same room?" I say moving away a little.

Since the kiss, my relationship with Sirius has been very strange. We have not had time to speak about it, the exams were before winter break, so I spent it reviewing with Lily and Jenna and when we shared class, we couldn’t speak, we didn’t go beyond sharing looks and smiles.

"Sirius, we need to talk."

"That only means danger,” He says with a grimace.

The song ends and we try to go back to our place when my mother stops us.

“No, you must continue. The engaged couples are the ones that have to shine the most."

"Mom," I complain, but with her eyes she told us everything and we returned to our position to continue the next song.

"At least we can talk," says Sirius and now he looks nervous. "Do you want to talk about the kiss?”

“Not that especially, but yes. What do you want from me, Sirius? Please be honest, no more games."

He thinks for a few seconds.

"I want to be by your side. I know that with everything we’ve been through, it’s unfair that you give me a chance, but I have broken my head thinking about what’s happening now, what we’ve talked about. My friends are sick of me talking about you and what I should do, even I am– but I always get to the same end and you are always there."

My heart races.

"And what about that list of girls waiting for you?"

I won’t deny that it makes me nervous, Sirius's reputation is not a secret to anyone and although I haven’t seen him with any other girl since everything got strange with the wedding announcement, I cannot put that topic aside.

"They will go on," I raise my eyebrows and he quickly denies. "No, no, wait, don't look at me like that, I mean– I guess they'll still be there, but I'm not interested anymore, it was fun, but not anymore... I know, everything is your fault, my brain’s confused because of you,” He complains like a small child making me laugh.

"So it's easy to play with your mind?"

He complains.

"You're lucky I like you," he says without thinking. And it’s obvious that our feelings changed and that the kiss made it clear that we liked each other, but the fact that he said it makes me emotional. “...And what about you? What do you want from me, Persephone? "

"I want you Sirius," He smirks at my words. "It’ll be a disaster, but at least I'm sure of how I feel about you, and now everything’s different, now I can't let you go so easily..."

"Oh, trust me," He says, stopping and putting a hand on my cheek. "That won't be a problem," he leans a little. "You’ll have me for a long time, Percy," He says and then kisses my lips gently.

My hand goes up to his hair, when we part I can't help but smile and he does too. I haven't felt this way in a long time. The applause when the song ends pulls us out of our little bubble and we walk away from the crowd holding hands.

"Padfoot!" James practically throws himself at Sirius in a big hug. "I thought you were dead, but I saw you at one of the most cheesy dances I’ve ever seen in my life, I almost threw up."

"It's always good to see you, Prongs," says Sirius laughing.

"Ugh, no. You're smiling like an idiot in love,” complains the boy in glasses.

"Oh come on," says Jenna next to him. "If Lily were here, you’d be worse."

James sighs dreamily. "I already miss her"

"Stop judging me then," says Sirius hitting his head.

Dinner time arrives soon after. James and Jenna leave with their families and Sirius walks me to mine.

“Listen, I don't know if my mother saw us, but I think it’d be fun to continue the hateful performance between the two of us. I don't want to see her face of satisfaction,” He tells me a few meters from the table that, apparently, we shared.

"Good idea," I smile.

Dinner went by pretty fast, some sneering from Sirius and his mom replying back made me shiver at seeing so many similarities. I tried to talk to Regulus, but he was merely being polite. Isis would not stop criticizing the dresses of those present with Juno, Balder would occasionally look at the girl he danced with and Apolo was talking to my parents. The only pleasant thing was my conversation with Alphard, who keeps mentioning his reunion with his childhood friend.

"And tell me, dear Sirius," says Isis. "Have you already talked about how many children you want to have?"

I feel my face burn and Sirius is not far behind as he uncomfortably fixes his tie.

"Isis, please," I say through my teeth and she laughs.

“Look at you, little sister. So very ashamed,” joins Balder.

"It's nothing to write home about, Persephone. A question that many people will ask you," My sister says, drinking from her glass.

"Let's not overwhelm the kids," says Alphard trying to defuse the situation.

"The engaged kids, Alphie," continues Isis. "I'll give you some advice, as soon as you get pregnant, everyone will leave you alone," She says pointing to her husband who looks at her with annoyance.

"Wait," I look at her. "Are you pregnant?"

"What?" Balder blurts out.

"Surprise," She answers with a tight smile.

"We said this was not the time, honey," her husband tells her tensely.

"Oh shut up, you’re not the one who’ll carry this for nine months."

That baby won’t have an easy life. Not even born and I’m already worried.

"Isis," my father's deep voice stops the talk. My sister rolls her eyes and stays quiet.

"Gentlemen," says Abraxas arriving at our table. "Do you think we have a moment to talk business?"

Ares, Orion, Apollo, Isis's husband, Alphard, and Balder rise up. I turn to see Sirius. His father practically dragged him by grabbing him by his coat, giving him no chance to do anything about it. This isn’t right and I know that if I say something or even try to get up, everyone will get suspicious or my parents will make a fuss.

I only stay with women, who talk about… things– my mind can only think that at least Apollo and Alphard are with Sirius, but obviously it doesn't reassure me at all.

"I have to go to the bathroom," I say and as soon as I see that my mother and sisters are immersed in some gossip. Without waiting for an answer, I walk out the room, but before I can get to the bathroom, I hear an argument between two boys.

“Was your father even required at the meeting? That just adds another embarrassment to your family, Potter."

I follow the sound to one of the corridors of the Malfoy mansion.

"...besides you..." adds the blond boy.

"And what about you, Lucius? Didn't Daddy let you in with the adults?" James snaps

"I have an important mission to attend," He says, raising an eyebrow. "Actually, I have to talk to other people, you’re just a waste of time."

James laughs, fixing his glasses.

“You obviously wanted to show off your not-so-secret mission, Malfoy. I just wanted to go to the bathroom, but your arrogant presence interrupted my basic needs."

Lucius rolls his eyes.

“You're just a little kid, I knew inviting the Potters was a bad idea, but my father knows they can serve as jesters. After all, your father’s only the laughing stock of other families."

That makes James upset, I see him make his hand into a fist, but he tries to control himself.

"Didn't you have a mission to do?" He says through his teeth.

"Oh, does that make you uncomfortable, Potter? You know it's the truth, but I must say that I think that not only your family can put on a show. I look forward to the youngest Singh and your little Black friend doing something. They’re scandals experts, I want to see their faces when they find out that Avery will officiate their wedding."

Wait. What!?

"What did you just said?" James asks and Lucius smiles victoriously.

"I already said too much," He says, but James pushes him against the wall.

"No, pretty boy. Now you’ll tell me exactly what you know..."

Lucius's face turns even paler than usual at James' closeness. All his confidence is gone. Maybe I should stop the boy, but I also want to know what Lucius will say and if I get close I might screw it up.

"L-let go of me, Potter," stutters the blond.

"Start singing, Malfoy."

"I-I just– Everything is settled, my duty was to give him a small gift, my engagement to Narcissa also depends on him," He says quickly and then closes his eyes waiting for a blow that never comes.

Holy shit.

James analyzes the words and walks away from the blonde, who looks at him confused, but quickly adjusts his clothes and returns to his false attitude.

“Be careful what you do, Potter. You’re in my house and I can kick you out if I want to."

"Go away."

I hide between a nearby pillar and after a few minutes I see Lucius Malfoy walk away. When I no longer see him I walk up to James's side, he gives a start when he sees me, but then sighs.

"Did you hear that?" I nod. "I’ve heard that Avery’s not the most pleasant person in the world."

"He’s practiced black magic and killed many wizards when they get in his way," I tell him shakily. "How the hell are we going to stop the wedding if we have a person like him around?"

"I have no idea."

The night continued and after a couple more songs from the band, Sirius came back to our table, but this time he sat next to me.

"What happened?" I say nervously

"I'm confused– I thought they would talk about... important things, I don't know, but they only asked me questions about the wedding, where we would live, if I would continue at my father's job, silly things really, but..." He looks up and around a bit. “I saw your father speak with Apollo and other men that I couldn’t recognize, he seemed serious, more than normal, and your brother was seeing me from time to time, very tense. Do you think we should investigate more?"

I shake my head.

"Not tonight, it’s risky. Everyone’s in the same place and I'm sure they took measures so that no one else knows what they are planning."

Sirius purses his lips.

"So, I’ll tell James that there’s no need for him to do any distractions," He looks embarrassed, but he also has a smile. I roll my eyes.

“What were you going to do? No wait, I don't want to know. I can't believe you're so impulsive.”

"Does the excuse that we are Gryffindor work?" That makes me laugh a little.

"Maybe," I look him straight in the eye. "You're lucky to have someone from Slytherin," I say raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, we'll talk about it later," he complains, but then he smiles and takes my hand. "Now tell me, what happened here while I was gone?"

My smile vanishes immediately.

"We have problems."

"What?"

"Do you by any means, recognize Avery's name?" His face turns pale.

"Shit."

A/N: I’m just gonna say that i get distracted by Timothée Chalamet’s perfection. that’s it.

Fifth year

· No one should know about the plan. If at any time it is discovered, we must say some excuse or lie.

· Remus can leave the plan whenever he wants.

"Oh, come on," I complain, looking up at the boy sitting in front of me.

“What? You can't force me,” He teases. I roll my eyes.

"Then if at some point, you get mad at me for another reason that has nothing to do with the contract, will you abandon everything?"

“Of course not, I am not that impulsive.”

"I won’t take the risk" I take the pen and the scroll.

· Remus can leave the plan whenever he wants.

· Remus may leave the plan if he has a real reason (If he thinks he or someone else will get hurt)

“Now’s better,” He reads and nods.

“I know…”

· Persephone cannot be rude with any other person (can’t call them “mudbloods”)

"Technically, it's not my fault, that's how my parents raised me, but-“ He observes me, annoyed, "I'll try".

· Remus and Persephone cannot hurt each other.

· Remus cannot cancel any meeting

Lupin looks at me confused.

“You can't choose a prank or something with your friends instead of our classes. We must set the day and place and if they plan something last minute, in our schedule, you can not go with them.”

"That's very... controlling" I bite my lower lip.

Maybe it is, but…

"I guess that's how your friend Black started.”

“I want to know that too.”

"What?" I look up.

“What happened with you and Sirius? I know a version” He’s silent for a few seconds, “I never thought that-“

“That I could have another version?” I lean on the chair and cross my arms "I didn't think you were gossipy, Lupin."

He blushes.

"Normally I’m not," He says with a small smile, "I have another rule…”

· Persephone and Remus should always be honest

I add:

· They must answer all the questions that are asked, when they are ready.

Then I sign the paper and Remus does the same. He rolls up the scroll and hand it to him. We decide that he should hide it.

“I have a special place to hide things. They don't know what personal space is…”

"When do we start?” I ask.

"I do not know"

“Tomorrow night? We could go to the astronomy tower while we find another place.”

"No! Not the tower,” He replies with a grimace, “that’s Sirius' favorite place to take girls.”

Of course. I roll my eyes.

"I have the perfect place,” He says smiling

"Which one?”

“Just meet me outside your common room, I will look for you.”

“But it must be a private place, Remus-“

“Trust me"

"All right.”

· Remus and Persephone must trust each other

“Are you going to keep avoiding me?" I jump in my place when I hear that manly voice.

I turn a little and Regulus watches me, waiting for an answer.

"H-hello, Reg," He walks around the chair and then sits next to me. I move to observe it better.

“That’s all?" I don't know if he's upset or not, his face seems relaxed.

“I-I…” I sigh, "I haven't been evading you" I say uncertainly my AWFUL LIE. He laughs sarcastically.

I cover the bottom of my face with the book I’m reading.

"Yeah right. I think that up to this moment, today is the most you have lasted near me. You won’t run now?”

I don't like this Regulus, but I deserve this. I drop the book.

"Sorry. You are right, I regret how I’ve treated you,” I play with my fingers, “I have been distracted and I have too many things in my head-”

"And I am just a problem that you prefer to avoid" I observe his gray eyes. He's hurt, I hurt him.

"What happened with your family?" His question takes me by surprise.

"What are you talking about?" I ask nervously.

He puts his arm on the back of the chair and gets closer.

"Everything changed when we returned from vacation. Juno no longer speaks to you like before,” I look towards the fireplace, “Persephone…”

His fingers touch my chin and forces me to see him again. I feel the tears, but I don't let them fall, Regulus watches me worried.

"It's nothing, nothing happened," I say, pulling away from his grip, "It's just the exams, they pressure me to be the best, the usual," he sighs.

"Let's say I believe you,” He takes my hand gently, ”Will you still ignore me?"

"Sorry, Regulus," I stroke his hand, “I… I'm really sorry. I am a terrible friend. Jenna is mad at me too, ”I grimace.

"She told me,” I look at him in surprise, “Is Lupin bothering you or something? Is it about Sirius?”

I can't help laughing before his questions.

"What?"

“How is it possible that you are like this after what I did to you? You worry about me and I just said I'm sorry and that's it?” He shrugs.

"I can't get mad at you," He says, bowing a little. I laugh again.

"I don't deserve it, Reg," I realize how close he is and panic, "you're very close."

I lean on the chair.

Hearing me, Regulus goes back to his place, totally flushed.

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay," We both fall into a little awkward silence.

Is what Jenna says true?

"Reg"

"Yes?"

Do you feel something for me?

"I'm really sorry.”

“Just don't do it again. It’s quite difficult to be in a school full of idiots, you are the only reason why it is worth continuing here,” He says complaining.

My heart races.

Since when do you say things like that?

"I won’t do it again,” I say ignoring my thoughts.

He smiles.

"Well, let me tell you what happened with Rosier while we weren't together," He laughs. He always keeps the best stories for me.

While he tells me how Evan Rosier was humiliated by a Ravenclaw girl, I observe him carefully. I had never stopped to analyze my friend and think... Why this handsome boy has not dated anyone?

His black hair always neat, his gray eyes, his fine features, his perfect smile, his well-groomed body… Regulus has the ability to look like an angel. Anyone would die for him.

The more I observe, my mind travels to the childhood memories we had.

I remember him always asking if his hair was okay, especially after playing.

His eyes looked at everything with curiosity, that innocent smile when his brother and I pranked the adults, his little body chasing us, the soft laughs of a little kid.

But that child is gone. He is not the one who’s telling me the gossip of Slytherin. I can’t help thinking that he’s the constant memory of how I was once happy and complete.

"Can you believe it?" He asks, forcing me to return to reality.

"What a loser.”

"I know,” He chuckles, "She would never be with someone like him, the girl’s smart.”

“Reg," He observes me, "Have you ever had a girlfriend?"

My question surprises him and he blushes.

"W-why do you ask?" I shrug, "Well, no. I've dated some girls, but I've never had a girlfriend.”

"And you don't want to have one?" Okay, that sounded like a proposal.

"I mean," I clear my throat, ”There are many pureblood girls, surely your parents wait for you to get someone like that," I say awkwardly.

Is this progress? I will tell Lupin.

"I like someone," Now I’m surprised.

"Really?" He nods, "Who is it?"

"I won't tell you"

I frown.

"Come on, Reg. I could help you, maybe if we also tell Jenna, well, I must first apologize to her, but she’ll help us."

"I'm sorry, Persephone, but I won't tell you." He stays silent for a few seconds, ”I don't need your help, I know I can't be with her."

"What? Why?"

"She must be with someone else…”

“That's absurd, why? Does she have a boyfriend?” He shakes his head, “Then you can go get her, my friend. But you must tell me who it is.”

"I already told you no.”

I kneel on the couch and approach him.

"Come on, tell me who it is!”

"If you keep insisting, I'll get mad again." I shut my mouth and pout.

“That’s not fair," I say, crossing my arms.

“I'll be fine, Persephone. Don't worry,” He sighs, “Do you want to go for something to eat?”

"All right."

We leave the common room and head towards the Great Hall, tos of students already having dinner, anxious for all the food that the castle offers. Reg sits in front of me and takes a piece of pie, while I finally -after several weeks- put several things on my plate.

"Surely I should not ask you if you feel nervous about the OWLS, right?" He raises his eyebrows and I laugh a little.

“You know that's nothing, Reggie. At least not for me.”

"Come on, keep boasting, brainy," He says, throwing me a seed, we both laugh. “Before I found you, I could hear a couple panic saying they didn’t understand some stuff about Defense against the dark arts. I don't know what the lesson was, but they seemed worried. ”

"It can be difficult for some people,” He looks at me confused.

“How difficult can it be to read a book or pay attention in class? It’s true that D.A.D.A teachers change as if they were socks, but they know how to read. Surely they are mudbloods,” Now I’m confused.

"What does that have to do with it?"

He laughs.

“My mother says that they lose certain abilities that we pureblood, have naturally. In this case, intelligence.”

I analyze his words, I remember that my parents also said something similar. Will it be true? I must ask Remus.

"I guess everyone has their weaknesses,” He shrugs.

"So? What is yours?” I bite my lower lip.

"I don’t know,” He looks at me carefully, I know he wants to ask more questions.

"Anyway, will you go to the mansion for Christmas?" I tense, “We could go to your favorite store, where they sell chocolates-”

"I don't think it's a good idea,” My house, or the Black mansion.

"Why?" I look at his gray eyes.

“Just… I won’t go this year for the winter holidays. I've never been in the castle for the Holidays”

“What's so special? You’re here all the time, your family is waiting for you at home,” He says defensively.

"My family is not waiting for me,” At least not happily. Now that I think about it, I may not receive Christmas gifts from any of them.

Regulus sighs and finishes his meal.

"Will you tell me what happened or I will find out from someone else?” He’s serious now. I feel my hands sweat. I push the almost empty plate to the side.

"Reg, I... I can't tell you... it's something..."

"Can't or won't?" He says roughly.

"I can’t," I say firm, "If you really want the gossip, go with Juno, she will be happy to tell you what happened.”

“Are you angry now? You’ve been ignoring me all week.”

"Hey! I thought you had forgiven me!”

"Don't you understand that I care about you?" He says ignoring my comment, “Suddenly you’re so quiet, you fight with Jenna, you don't want to go back with your family… What happened, Persephone?"

The words get stuck in my throat. And no sound can come out. Reg looks at me waiting for something.

"Nothing?"

"Reg-" Before I can say it, the owls enter through the windows and start dropping the mail. A letter falls between thusem, but it is I who takes it.

It says my name, but the strange thing is the Black house badge as a stamp. Reg also seems confused. I open the envelope and take out the letter.

I carefully read the elegant writing.

"It's from your mom," I inform him.

I try to remember some important date, a reason why Walburga Black could have sent me a letter.

‘Dear Persephone:

We are glad and pleased to know the news of your agreement to belong to our family. We have talked to your parents and everything is fixed, dear. We have planned that the union ceremony will be done when both finish your studies. We are on time to develop all the preparations that come with being part of a large and old family like ours.

However, we believe a talk is necessary soon, after all, you have to be aware of our traditions.

We cannot wait for the future union between the Blacks and the Singh.

You and Sirius will keep the family traditions alive.
