idk who has read my comic BoD but im gonna copy paste the thing i wrote re: his name over here anyway under the read more

yes this is the protag from BoD and hes got a whole nother name and uses he/they.

gonna preface by saying im trans myself. originally i didnt plan on this sort of introduction for the adult version of him for a long time but i really wanted to include him for artfight and also i realize ive stirred up some confusion amongst readers about how to refer to him. originally i was gonna just post his childhood refs and corresponding names in accordance with what was happening in the comic but now thats changed. since i dont expect every single reader to see this post, the approach im gonna take re: how to talk about him is just, you can refer to him either as he is as an adult, or whatever the "present" name is in the comic so. just dont worry about it too much, i dont wanna worry about it, i want as little conflict as possible ultimately. i didnt give a lot of forethought when setting this all up but i hope this clarifies things somewhat!

BackStory

During this time the Crowen family's business is that of information, although they are spread across basically the entire globe, the main and most powerful family is in the UK.

Elizabeth's parents have a contract marriage, one of the conditions of this contract is to have an heir, no matter what sex.

The relationship with her parents is quite bad, her mother since she was born didn't even want to take care of her, she generally ignores her as if she didn't exist and when she doesn't ignore her she insults her for no reason.

Her father at least knows of her existence, but his response to anything that concerns Elizabeth is "Do what you want, just don't take the family business to the rubbish".

Basically the workers in the main house took care of her.

By the age of 5 she was fully capable of handling her mother's responsibilities as hostess of the house.

The titles "father" and "mother" are of no value to her and she only uses them as a formality.

She joined Hogwarts in first year, and has been friends with Aderyn ever since.

When Sebastian's sister happened, she tried to help her with the information she had, but it wasn't enough.

She is currently trying to find a way to help him.

For now, that's all there is about her

Little Said But Much Spoken

CW very minor injury, little bit of blood An experiment in writing a fic with nearly no dialogue. Concrit welcome - did the silent communications make sense, is the pacing fast enough, is it still interesting without dialogue?

Aderyn slinks into the Septim-Broussard residence like a cat, trailing in dried mud and the syrupy dawn sunlight. Stationed at the base of the stairs, Alexine – a new Blade Sister – raises an eyebrow. Aderyn gives a sheepish smile and a little wave. With an uptick of her chin, Alexine indicates the shedding boots and mucky coat should be abandoned on the coat rack. Aderyn accepts this with a tired grimace and does as bid. Alexine nods her approval, but stops with a frown as Aderyn starts to pass her on the stairs. Aderyn pauses, looking back. Alexine taps her own cheek, causing Aderyn to mimic the move. Her fingers come away with dried brown flecks. Aderyn gives the older Blade a laconic shrug, waving away the concern on Alexine's brow with a laissez-faire flick and continues her ascent before anything can be said.

Aderyn's room, a tiny little nook of a space, is at the very top of the old townhouse so it takes two flights to get there. At the landing on the first, Buck – another of the new Blades cadre – is currently guarding the master bedroom. Aderyn starts to ascend the second flight, when Buck softly clears his throat. Aderyn glances back to see him beckoning her with perplexed wrinkles in his forehead. With a curious head tilt she does so. Buck starts to say something but Aderyn quickly shakes her head, pressing a finger to her lips and looking pointedly at the bedroom door. He gives an understanding nod. Telegraphing his movements with enquiring raised eyebrows, Buck reaches for her hair. Aderyn might be unsure what he wants, but she helped train him, and so trusts him with a quick nod. From the skeins of hair escaping her slowly disintegrating bun, he plucks several leaves. For lack of anything else to do with them, Buck scrunches them into a pocket. His brow still wrinkles with confusion and concern, so Aderyn gives a half-shrug, head twisting in askance. Like Alexine, he touches his own cheek to indicate the rusty marks; again, Aderyn dismisses the worry with a quick grin and an airy hand-flick. Patting a hand over an affected yawn, she swiftly turns away – bam! – into Roliand, coming from the bathroom.

The older Blade's assessment is swift, and he makes a sweeping gesture towards the still open bathroom door. Aderyn draws a breath, bringing a hand up to make a point. Roliand's face settles, hard as rock, his gesture towards the bathroom sharper; she's not going to skate past him like she did the others. Resigned, Aderyn goes into the bathroom. Roland's gentle with the swab and sterile water. More gentle than Dr Ivers might have been, and he certainly doesn't bluster and huff and demand answers as Dr Ivers would.

It's only once all Aderyn's cuts have been cleaned and covered; once he has delivered her safely to her room, that Roliand takes her hand, radiating a fierce protectiveness she can only think of as brotherly love, and asks, "Who did this to you?" Aderyn's laugh is an embarrassed hush of breath between wide, smiling lips. "A tree." Aderyn watches with puckish, pursed lips as Roliand's zest softens into confusion. "God's honest," she continues, hand over heart, as his brows steepen. "A job went Pete Tong and I fell out of a tree."

Rich brat with a heart of gold, black cat to Pez's golden retriever, would stab someone for Henry at any given moment, somehow an even worse influence than Pez, she and Alex should never be left alone together because they have the combined self restraint of a rabid squirrel

Danielle Walters (x Shaan & Zahra)–

Oscar's chief of staff, has been an honorary part of the family for years. She and Zahra are the only reason the country is surviving Ellen & Oscar's divorce, handle all political communication for them

Estella Mountchristen-Windsor –

Henry & Phillip & Bea's cousin, her mom is Catherine's younger sister. Lives at Kensington with her cousins not because she's supposed to but because it always feels so big and empty there and they enjoy the company. Bratty socialite party girl, nicknamed the Tabloid Princess for how often her scandals make the cover of various tabloids. She does love to drink and party and make terrible life choices but what people don't notice is how often her biggest scandals just happen to overshadow her cousins' problems and how she uses the paparazzi to distract both Mary and the british press from their secrets

Possible Pez ship, or possibly just chaotic best friends who enjoy hooking up

Flynn Caldwell (x Eileen Eisner) –

Famous actor, frequently accused of being a nepo baby because his mom was a famous popstar when she was younger, but he is genuinely very talented. First met Eileen Eisner when they were little kids doing a TV show together and every few years they find themselves in another project together (usually as love interests). Has a history of substance abuse issues that he has not really dealt with but has been trying to stay sober since Eileen went to rehab.

Everyone's favourite celebrity couple even though there has never been any confirmation of a relationship between them

Fraser Montgomery (x FirstPrince) –

Only son of an important family of some sort, went to Eton and Oxford with Henry & Pez, was Henry's favourite hookup throughout school

they stayed in touch but not close, start hooking up again during rwrb because Henry is trying to ignore his feelings for Alex but accidentally starts developing real feelings for Fraser along the way, he comes to the New Year's party and totally hits it off with Alex but keeps it totally platonic with just some flirting because he knows how Henry feels, turns poly along the way

Josephine Fitzroy –

Martha's twin sister. Child actress whose first job was playing James Bond's secret daughter alongside Arthur Fox, has stayed extremely close with the Fox-Mountchristen-Windsors. She continued to act but went to university to study public relations and ended up working for the crown, specifically managing all social media, public appearances, and media engagements for the royal children on behalf of Queen Mary. After Cakegate, she is responsible for planning and staging the entire fake friendship between Henry & Alex (even though she wants to murder Alex & Henry for ruining her sister's wedding), is one of the only people who knows about their relationship and is the first person to know because Henry tells her immediately. Was the first person Henry came out to and every few months after that they let themselves get pictured on a "date" to keep the public assuming that they're together so they won't question why Henry has never had a real girlfriend

Juliet Fox –

Daughter of Arthur Fox's younger sibling, both of her parents died when she was a toddler and she was taken in by her Aunt and Uncle and raised with her cousins – who just happen to be royalty. Accidental travel influencer and full time president of the Mary Hate Club, Juliet still lives with her cousins and gets dragged along to all of their royal engagements despite Mary's many, many objections.

Marcie Turner –

Cash's daughter, Alex's very very mentally ill best friend, recently out of the hospital, 24/7 with him. Alex sort of put himself in charge of her recovery but what neither of them mention is that really she's there to help him because needing to keep track of her helps him take better care of himself too, only Cash knows the full story

he can't skip meals/lose track of time when he's taking care of a girl recovering from an eating disorder, he can't run until he collapses when he's running with a girl who used to run until she passed out, he can't stay up all night on research binges when he shares a room with a girl who needs rest to help her body heal, etc. Officially she's Alex's best friend, media-speculated girlfriend, and his "keeper" to help him balance election work, first son duties, and his senior year, unofficially Alex is fucked up from her being hospitalized and taking care of her helps, even less officially, she's he's self proclaimed therapy dog because taking care of her helps him take care of himself

Sofía Diaz – 

Alex & June's cousin on Oscar's side, Sofía has always adored both of her cousins. She idolizes June and Alex has always been her best friend. She's a psych student and Georgetown University and, until Ellen won the election, she and Alex had been planning on getting an apartment and going to school together. Has a complicated relationship with Ellen because of the divorce but still loves her, ends up getting the campaign communications job that Ellen tried to give June

daughter of Aeolus from the time of the odyssey – might have joined Odesseus' crew after Aeolus gave him the bag of winds tbd – but Athena is mad at Aeolus for Odysseus' voyage being sent way off course by the winds, can't actually punish him so instead sends his daughter "off course" aka thousands of years into the future, she's been living in her father's palace because he wants to protect her but she ends up joining Jason's quest in Lost Hero

Daughter of Aphrodite and a sorceress, Circe's apprentice and a devoted follower of Hecate. Gets captured on the pirate ship along with Hylla and Reyna and is stuck on the ship for a few years before she can finally escape and, to her absolute shock, crosses paths with Percy Jackson once again

Maliah –

child of a sea deity – poseidon or someone else tbd – from the crew of the original argo. Pretended to be a man to join the crew, eventually her secret is revealed. It is eventually decided to let her stay but a few of the crew members are not okay with that and throw her overboard in the Sea of Monsters (drowned but didn't really drown because of her parent), spat back out during Sea Of Monsters and meets Percy & Annabeth & Tyson, or possibly meets Clarisse instead

Starts dating Jason and Reyna somewhere between Battle Of The Labyrinth and Last Olympian, doesn't properly see Annabeth until Mark of Athena and it's extremely messy

Might have her own Labyrinth quest at the same time as Annabeth's but paths just don't cross, tbd

American Housewife

Channing "Chaney" Lambert (x Oliver & Cooper) –

Only child of the second richest family in Westport (her family and the Bradfords act friendly in public but it's very fake and they hate each other, she and Cooper are very much not supposed to be friends), local princess and she knows it

Her parents want her to aspire to be a trophy wife but she Does Not want that (unless it's Cooper but then he would be her trophy husband tbh), she either wants to go to Harvard because Legally Blonde or Yale because of Gilmore Girls & Gossip Girl, rich princess vibes, dancer (first becomes friends with Oliver through dance, has always been friends with Cooper even though they aren't supposed to be), kind of just wants to go insane and stop fitting the perfect mold that her parents want for her but that's not really an option

Katie doesn't really like her because she thinks she's just a vapid spoiled brat, she gets along alright with Greg, absolutely worships Taylor

Liv Otto –

Oliver’s twin sister, influencer, Katie hates it and insists that it’s not a real or viable career. Started as some vlogs (LifeWithLiv), first day at a new school stuff, picking an outfit for it, mostly just something to keep her friends from before in the loop but then people start to notice and she really blew up until it became a brand and business. She feels very real and is very open and honest about how scared she is of being new and trying to find a balance between being herself and being someone who belongs in westport, it resonates with people really well

She and Cooper are definitely besties, he's the number one person showing up in her videos, for sure the three of them (her and cooper and oliver) live together after high school

Nicholas Banks (x Joan De Loughrey) –

Single dad, divorced years ago. Got very rich in app development and moved to Westport (might have a son, have a face in mind, tbd), people liked him because of his money but he really never felt like he belonged. Meets Joan while she is going through a very messy divorce with a husband who won't stop flaunting his various mistresses (while treating her like shit in the divorce process), they go on a few spite dates which turns into very real feelings

Glee

Maci Reeves –

Raised by a single mother who moves a lot for her job (job tbd, Maci loves her mom but they aren't very close and her mom rarely has time for her), s2 freshman

Has been in glee clubs at every school she’s been at (if the school didn’t have a club she started it), her last school won junior nationals. Moves to Lima before s2, immediately determined to join the new directions, Rachel tries to send her to the crackhouse too but after Rachel gave her that address she went to Will to tell him how excited she was for auditions, wanted to ask if there were any requirements (dance portion, any specific song styles, etc), when she’s leaving his office she tries to confirm the time/address and he’s like “um wtf no it’s in the auditorium”

Dustin Goolsby keeps trying to recruit her for vocal adrenaline but she doesn’t want to commute

14. What do they think of the Nightmare Court? Would they ever join it? What would make them do so? / What made them join them? Would they ever leave it? (Sylvari ask game)

Ehehe, you picked a great one!

I'd planned to only give brief answers, oops. It's divided up into sections: Dreamers first, then characters who aren't Dreamers or Courtiers, and finally Courtiers. This is entirely because the Courtier section got much longer than the others! 😅

DREAMERS

Keelie is wary, having treated many wounds caused by the Court in her time. That said, she's generally trusting and prone to giving everyone a chance ('All things have a right to grow'); if a courtier who hadn't done her harm was wounded, she would treat them. She'd never join the Court by choice, but I can see her getting captured and forcibly converted if she's not careful.

Although Culhwch hates courtiers as much as most dreamers, they fought alongside some during the assault on Mordremoth. They've also gone through periods of disillusionment with the Grove/nobility/fighting against the dragons. It's possible that, at the right time, one of their fellow fighters might have been able to convince them. But generally, not going to happen.

Sorcha and Eirlys both have the usual Grove-aligned views on the evil of the Court, but neither of them encounter the Court much in their day-to-day. They're doing Mists stuff.

Hafwen also dislikes the Court. But he has no fighting ability, so if he was ever in the wrong place at the wrong time… sorry, dude.

OTHER

Rhiannon, Ddrysien, and Mal have all lived outside of sylvari society for a long while, for one reason or another. None of them think about the Nightmare Court much day-to-day. That being said:

Rhiannon has a strong sense of justice - perhaps too much, having rejected Ventari's wisdom for being too open to interpretation. Would never join the Court, probably fought courtiers during her time in the Lionguard. Honestly would probably kill any courtiers she did encounter, if she could get away with it.

Morally speaking, Ddrysien is the most likely of the three to align with the Court - she's cynical and unscrupulous. But she's not sadistic, just self-interested, and she would also dislike the hierarchies and commitment required. If she encountered any courtiers, she would be wary of them; if asked to pick between the Grove and the Court, she would pick the Grove.

Mal hates the Court as much as most Dream-associated sylvari, and are physically repelled by most of them - Mal has always been sensitive to sylvari empathy, and it only got worse after they answered Mordremoth's call. They would be very vulnerable to Nightmare conversion because of this and the Soundless methods they've tried to adopt since. Would immediately try to get out of any scenario where courtiers are.

Finally, Aderyn, (ex-)Mordrem with no memories of anything before that, doesn't know what the Nightmare Court is. Probably shot a few over the years, but not for being courtiers, just to keep them away in general.

COURTIERS

(Worth noting up top, I don't see Nightmare 'corruption' as inherently irreversible. I know that's not technically canon, but it's more interesting to me that way!)

Derval and Llinos, I've not decided how they joined the Court. I can't see either of them leaving, either, but that's just off the top of my head.

Daithi started out participating in Grove-aligned duels, hunts, and tournaments. Reasonably skilled and good at performing to a crowd, they found themselves being invited to more ruthless, higher-stakes revelries, which they found even more exhilarating. I haven't decided how it's revealed to them that they're attending Court events; it's probably dramatic and they leave for a while, but eventually crawl back. Maybe this happens several times, I don't know! I'll have to think about this some more. These days, they're unrepentant. If they left, it would only be to participate in a wider world of morally dubious recreational fighting. Even most of those frown on the killing/torturing of opponents who lose, so... The Court it is!

Idris and Esyllt could be their own post. They both woke on the same day, some months after the Secondborn (if Thirdborn was a thing, they would be it) and became close friends. I imagine the Nightmare Court was still growing at this point, somewhat unorganised and not seen as an outright threat.

Idris dreamt of dying, and woke obsessed with death and the avoidance of it. He found the Grove limited and limiting, and was slowly lured away by the promise of more freedom in his studies. He became one of the Court's executioners, using the close encounters with death to further his knowledge. These days, he isn't ideologically invested in the Court as an institution, though he finds some satisfaction in his role within it. However, he has no particular desire to go anywhere else either, especially given that the parts of the world with morals wouldn't exactly welcome him back. I've toyed with him taking up residence in the Heart of Maguuma to research ley magic/dragon magic, away from court politics, but I haven't decided if this is a HoT-era thing or a more permanent thing.

Esyllt was captured by the Court a year or two later while working as a healer for the Wardens. Idris refused to execute her, and she was placed into a Nightmare conversion pod. She came out a twisted reflection of the person she had been before. She discarded her medicines for poisons, and enjoys luring people in only to toy with them until they break. She intellectually knows that what Idris did to save her was awful. Nonetheless, the person that the conversion pod made her delights in Nightmare. (Naturally, she and Idris have a complicated relationship now!) Of all my courtiers, she's the least likely to leave, and this is the real reason that Idris would never leave either.
