Just a few thoughts I had after trawling Wikipedia

Iris, the Greek Goddess of the rainbow, communication and messages, is married to Zephyrus, the West Wind. 

Iris is the messenger of Olympus(hey, Hermes needs off-time occasionally).

Zephyros is the kindest of the winds, and is also the one who is gay as fuck- a lot of art of him is spicy NSFW art of him and a Spartan prince named Hyacinthus. He’s also blond.

Eurus, the East Wind, is the one that no one talks about because it’s a bad omen.

East is the reverse direction of West, and Eobard is Reverse Flash.

Iris's brother is Hydaspes, the god of a swift-flowing stream, and said to be as fast as Iris in the water.

This would make any of Hydaspes' children Zephyros's nephew by marriage.

Remind me again now Barry is related to Wally? Oh, right, nephew by marriage. From his wife's brother, no less.

Iris West is named Iris West, and her occupation is always media-related- she’s a reporter in the comics, a news anchor in the Young Justice cartoon, and a freelance news blogger in the Arrowverse.

Speedsters sometimes produce gusts of wind when they run fast enough.

The Greek Gods canonically exist in the DCU.

Why is Hera so hostile to Leto in a manner that she isn't with the other lovers of Zeus? I can't think of any other woman who was targeted so much by Hera. One could say she didn't want Leto to give birth because her children would be a competition to Hera's children, but why bother her even after she had already given birth? Is it because Leto herself is also a threat to Hera?

I don't think Leto would ever be a threat to Hera's role as the queen of the gods but Hera might see her as a competitor for Zeus' affection, even though I think Zeus would not marry someone else and replace Hera.

The twins are definitely a big reason why Hera begrudged Leto - it is outright stated in the Callimachus Hymn to Delos that the reason Hera especially targeted Leto was because she was told that Apollo would be dearer to Zeus than Ares is. Zeus is very proud of Artemis as well. As he himself puts it, he doesn't mind facing Hera's wrath for children like her.

But the continued hatred even after the birth of the twins (like sending Tityus to rape Leto) could have been for different reasons. This wasn't like one of those affairs Zeus would have with mortal women where he'd leave them behind once the child is conceived. Neither could Hera, despite her many attempts, get rid of Leto like she did with the other lovers. Not only did Leto give Zeus children that he loves dearly, she also stayed on Olympus despite Hera's hatred towards her (which isn't directed to any of Zeus' other divine mistresses, btw). It might have also been because Leto herself is dear to Zeus, if the way she's treated on Olympus is any proof. In the Homeric hymn to Apollo, Leto stands next to Zeus - in the Olympian assembly - to welcome their son. Hera is completely absent from the scene, as if Leto had taken her place even if temporarily. Now you could say this is because Apollo himself is such a powerful and glorious son in a way that no other son of Zeus is, so of course Leto would get such an honor (the hymn itself presents it this way).

But here's another instance - in the Iliad, when Hera goes to seduce Zeus, he is obviously very smitten but before getting into the action, he lists some of his lovers (I believe these were his favorite lovers, as a lot of others are not mentioned):

"for never has such desire for goddess or mortal woman so gripped and overwhelmed my heart, not even when I was seized by love for Ixion’s wife, who gave birth to Peirithous the gods’ rival in wisdom; or for Acrisius’ daughter, slim-ankled Danaë, who bore Perseus, greatest of warriors; or for the far-famed daughter of Phoenix, who gave me Minos and godlike Rhadamanthus; or for Semele mother of Dionysus, who brings men joy; or for Alcmene at Thebes, whose son was lion-hearted Heracles; or for Demeter of the lovely tresses; or for glorious Leto; or even for you yourself, as this love and sweet desire for you grips me now.’ (Book 14, trans. A. T. Murray)

Notice how when talking about most of them, he also mentions the children they bore to him but when Demeter and Leto are mentioned, he doesn't bring up their children at all despite them being some of the most accomplished kids of his. What's more, he takes Leto's name just before Hera's. I mean, this is an interpretation but it looks like not only did Zeus love Leto the most out of all his mistresses - giving her a place second to that of his wife, but also his love for her wasn't necessarily only because she gave him two amazing children.

Nonnus does something similar in the Dionysiaca (but this time Zeus is enamored with Persephone instead of Hera) but more notably, when Typhoeus attacks Olympus and Zeus is discouraged, Nike takes the form of Leto to encourage him and it's pretty telling of what Leto meant to Zeus.

One interesting similarity between Hera and Leto is that they both had a giant try to rape them. Porphyrion tried to violate Hera (Zeus inspired him to do this) and Tityus tried to violate Leto (upon Hera's order). Though both of them were killed, only Tityus got an eternal punishment in Tartarus of having his liver/heart eaten out by vultures so Zeus seems to have taken a greater offense at Tityus trying to assault Leto.

Again, I don't think Zeus would ever take anyone other than Hera as his permanent wife - she is irreplaceable to him. There's an entire myth about Hera leaving him and Zeus winning her back. Their relationship is obviously complex and involves all kinds of emotions including love and hate. But Leto is continually dear to him as well and that's something Hera can't do much about.

Little idle thought I've been having recently but I think Cyparissus' story is very important for characterising Apollo and Apollo's love. It's so easy to think of love and loss as two ends of a spectrum, likewise, so often, death is seen as an ultimate and tragic end in love stories - something final and inescapably tragic, the only force that halts love by separating the lovers.

Cyparissus' story is... not that. Yes, the deer dies and one can conclude then that death is once more at the heart of separating two lovers, but I think Cyparissus specifically requesting to die, specifically begging Apollo to let him grieve forever even after Apollo has done his best to help Cyparissus move on from the accident and Apollo letting him is a powerful thing.

Because Apollo not only puts Cyparissus' wishes over his own, he's also able to see past his own building grief to immortalise Cyparissus in such a way that both grants him his wish and allows other people to glorify Cyparissus as well! And I think such a beautiful thing is something criminally overlooked!

It's become something of a joke that 'all Apollo's lovers turn into plants' but from a functional perspective, flowers are the most brilliant way to keep the spirit of a beloved thing alive. Flowers are like stars - as long as there are humans, humans will always contemplate the nature of flowers and as the god of poetry and song, Apollo creating opportunities for his beloved mortals to be remembered eternally even if they never seized glory in the traditional way is such an intimate and beautiful thing. Even then, Cyparissus is elevated to a similar status as Daphne with Apollo's actions - not merely a plant or flower but one that specifically symbolises him, one that is extremely fragrant and beloved by him. Just as Daphne's laurels were synonymous with glory and victory, Cyparissus' cypress became a emblematic of grief and remembrance. Even today, thousands of years later, people still view cypress trees as mourning trees and plant them in cemeteries and use the ash in incense burnt in remembrance of others. How's that for Apollo keeping his word.

More friendos for Apollo, since I just cannot stop. Might write something about these ideas if I can find the time this semester!

Lelantos: The Titan of the Air and moving unseen, and the brother of Leto. That's right, it's Apollo's uncle! Lelantos has spent the majority of his life hiding away from the rest of the mortal and immortal world. He speaks with his sister and his daughter, Aura, but has never really interacts with his Olympic niece and nephew. After the trials, Apollo starts visiting his mother a LOT more, and ends up running into Lelantos as a result. The two figure out that they are very similar, which makes Lelantos very excited. He ends up taking Apollo under his wing a bit.

Mnemosyne: The Titan of Memory. Apollo begins to fear the idea of losing his memory after the trials. The god's memory didn't feel as infallible as he once believed it was, so he reaches out to Mnemosyne. She agrees to teach him tactics to strengthen his own mind, and becomes one of the two mentors Apollo ends up gaining post-trials. She is a strict teacher, but only because she sees how determined Apollo is to master his own weaknesses.

Aither: The Primordial of Light. Apollo and Aither aren't friends, as much as Aither is just taking a bit of an interest in Apollo. Escaping Chaos isn't something any old god can do, and Aither is curious on what allowed Apollo to overpower his creator. He watches over Apollo when possible, and speaks to him when Apollo drives the sun chariot. Apollo ... doesn't really know what to do with this? He's honestly just trying to get by, so interacting with a primordial this much makes him nervous.

Perseis: An Oceanide, and the goddess of Solar Witchcraft. Perseis first approached Apollo to thank him for putting her husband, Helios, to rest. After a couple of conversations, she asks Apollo if he would like to learn her specific practice of sorcery, one that she had been teaching Helios before he passed. Solar witchcraft is a very niche line of study, and she doesn't have many people to pass her knowledge on to. Apollo agrees, and Perseis becomes his second mentor. Perseis is ... much more chaotic in her teachings than Mnemosyne.

Mousika: One of the twelve Horai, representing the hours. Mousika represents the hour of music. Mousika and Apollo were already acquainted long before the trials. Mousika would often sit in on Apollo's practice with the muses, and sometimes even add her voice to the fray. After the trials, Apollo's lyricism and writing take a turn that Mousika picks up on, and she finds it inspiring. Apollo believes the new songs he has written are too raw, based on ideas and feelings that Apollo himself is just starting to unwrap. Mousika acts as his sounding board, listening to the music he makes as he struggles his way through every emotion, and adding her own melancholy responses as harmonies.

Prometheus: The God of Forethought and Crafty Counsel. Ok, so this one’s a bit in the future. But imagine with the power of all the friendship I just made up for Apollo to have (along with Meg and his mortal friends and his kids ofc) Apollo works up the strength to stage that long awaited Olympian revolt. Who would his first ally be? I say Prometheus. This guy is so interesting, because he was ahead of the curve. Prometheus is the only god who I can see thinking mortals were not only equal to immortals, but actually more important. He would be so ABSOLUTELY stoked to learn Apollo was trying to overthrow his father, with one of his reasons being the mistreatment of mortals. I just think these two would be extremely op if they put their heads together.

Do any of you ever wonder if Camp Half-Blood accidentally brought in a demigod of a different pantheon before?

This would be especially hilarious if it happens sometime after The Last Olympian/Heroes of Olympus, where the gods are required to claim their kids quickly.

A whole day passes, and the new demigod needs to sleep in the Hermes Cabin and Percy is furious. Meanwhile, the Greek Gods are pointing at each other and shouting, contacting the most obscure of mini gods. Chaos erupts on Olympus as every deity in Greek Mythology is called upon and interrogated. Hermes hasn't run around so much in centuries.

Hecate sits in silence, fully aware of what's happening, but enjoying the show too much to intervene.

One thing I have to admit, is that when I say I'm religious, it's not because of cultural pressure or parents forcing me. I did my research and chose by myself and I want to practice it. I hesitate to say this online, because many LGBTQ+ people do worry about homophobia when followers of most religions are considered, which is understandable. However, to these two don't have to be against eachother. I believe peace is the solution.

I might not see as much, but I still love bright colors. Colors that are associated with little girls. Light pink, baby blue, light green, cherry pink, etc. Even colors like neon green and sunny yellow! If it were 100% up to me, my wardobe would've had the blacks, browns, beiges, and purples replaced with these colors completely.

I know in fantasy writing communities, we suggest authors "give your characters names that can be pronounced", but I personally like unique names in fantasy mpre. Like, I prefer the noble princess of the story being named "Eliarys" rather than "Faith". The unique names give off a more fantastical element. Besides, not everyone in our world have "common English" names anyways (like myself-).

There are a handful of cartoons from my childhood that I can't move past. And not just becausd of Nostalgia. I just think they're sweet and brilliant, albeit no one knows about most of them. If anyone knows "Baby Zuri: The Galactic Quest", "Z Squad", "The 99", "Hero 108", "Pop Secret", "Stellina", "Flash And Dash", or semi-popularly "Huntik: Secrets & Seekers", do let me know. :)

There used to be a Les Miserables anime that introduced me to the book and the musical, even though I need to watch the musical orobably. I'm the same as 8 year old me who loved it so much she stayed up late to watch it.

Speaking of all these fun things mostalgia related. I need to mention that, the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise has been the readon why I discovered the internet first. And I still don't regret it. I thought I left the fandom behind, but I'm recently getting back and enjoying it more than I thought. And I don't really care how the gameplay is, I love it for the storylines and especially the side characters.

For my other main fandom, Greek mythology, my favorite couple is Nyx and Erebus. I think Night and Darkness need more attention. They're the first ever couple in Greek mythology and one of the only two couples who never cheated! Besides Night and Darkness are the perfect pairing, especially seeing Light (Aether), Day (Hemera), Compassion (Eleos), Prudence (Epiphron), Carefulness (Sophrosyne), Charon (just Charon-), and in some cases Mirth (Euphrosyne) are their children. Most of the more negative deities / daemons like Moros and Eris are considered Nyx's children only, but even then, neither Nyx nor Erebus are paired up with another deity!

To an extent, I like roleplaying. Not ones with a specific plot or something, but I like to make my characters randomly react to a post or comment about them, especially if it's humourous. It's fun!

And finally, as much as I complain about writing, I truly love it. It's what changed my life for the best, and gave me a way to express myself. Before knowing how to type, I'd close myself to a room a talk to myself, playing the scenarios in my head to vent out my problems. It came to the point where my parents would think I was going crazy. But I liked it because I could express myself. Writing gave me this opportunity of expressing myself while being free about it. It gave me a world (or ten) to escape to. And through my writing, I made some of my best friends of my entire life!

I have a theory that being angry and complaining online is the default for most because it's inherently scarier to be earnest and vulnerable. So I invite whoever reads this to reblog and tell me about something you love un-ironically that doesn't make you look more intelligent or conventionally hip.

The rules are if I see anyone giving each other shit over a thing someone likes I'm going to send them an ask that's just a picture of wet, sad cat with zero context. Same if someone claims that they like to complain and it's their god-given right to do it as often as they like and wherever they want. Of course you do. It is not interesting to defend your right to talk about all the small things you hate when no one is really challenging them in the first place. You can complain forever until you die and that's totally fine.

Anyways I'll start.

I love Jimmy Buffett.

It's not because his music is so bad I think it's amusing. I actually think his music is really good. If he was still alive I'd absolutely spend money on a Jimmy Buffett concert because that sounds like a super fun time.

Fruitcakes is a fucking banger. Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On is only one of his many songs that give big Good Dad energy when shit is rough. People mostly only know him for Cheeseburger in Paradise - but honestly? That rocks too. Sometimes I also want a cheeseburger.

People try to give me shit because he sold his likeness to the Margaritaville restaurants and hotels. I'm not even upset about this. The man struggled to be financially stable enough to play music in the beginning of his career, and sold his name to get money to make music and play concerts. He did a good handful of charity shows. He delivered tents to Haiti after the earthquake. He's not like known for philanthropy, but the vibe I get from him is that he's a pretty good guy who just wanted to make music and hang out with his loved ones.

He was literally in the middle of finishing an album when he died last year. He just made music as often as he could right up until it was his turn to go. His last words, according to one of his daughters, were have fun.

You can tell me you don't like his music, but you can't listen and tell me you don't think he'd be a fucking chill hang when the only real answer I got from searching "Jimmy Buffett controversy" is that he got caught with a bunch of ecstacy in '06 and paid a fine before being released. I don't even do ecstacy but holy shit my one exception would be trying it with Jimmy Buffett can you imagine??

Something I find makes the life and death of Achilles far more tragic is the fact that all he is is the Trojan War. His parents’ wedding begins the conflict, and he dies before the end of the war. His entire life was spent in something he had no control over. Did he know Helen? Paris? Hektor? The Trojans became his enemies only when he reached the beaches of Troy.

Hell, if we go by the Achilleid, Achilles didn’t even know what the war was about until he was sailing to Troy. A young boy whose birth produced an unjust prophecy that dictated the rest of his life: Live long and die in obscurity, or die in war and live in the minds of the people forever. No greek man of his time could bear to die in obscurity, but it was especially impossible for Achilles to do so. His father Peleus, a legendary Argonaut whose adventures would be remembered for millenia, his mother Thetis, a towering goddess raised by the queen of the gods herself.

Their child had to be known.

At Aulis the greeks call for Achilles, a legend before he even steps into the battlefield, and he is forced to go to war. And he fights, he kills, he ravages the city of Troy. A boy who has never even seen a battle in his life, living in peaceful Pthia and later protected by mighty Chiron in Thessally, becomes a machine specifically created for one purpose: To destroy Troy.

This is the reason why Achilles refuses to fight after the taking of Briseis. Unlike Agamemnon, who lived before the Trojan War, who had a wife and family before the Trojan War, who will leave Troy. Or Odysseus who will tell his tales to his son and wife after 20 years away. Or Menelaus who after years regains his family and rules Sparta in peace. Achilles has no life, no future, he IS Troy, more than even Hektor, Paris, and Priam are. Thus, when his honor is threatened, everything he has ever lived for has been taken away from him. Realize that before the taking of Briseis, Agamemnon mentioned takingthe “bride prizes” from the other greek kings and despite this not going anywhere none of them attempted to argue. Would Odysseus attempt to kill Agamemnon if his bride prize were taken? Would Diomedes or Greater Ajax?

And yet, after Achilles lives his entire life for war. After he struggles and suffers so much at the face of adversity. At the loss of his everything, Patroklos. At the slight to his honor. He spends the rest of eternity regretting everything he had ever done. Perhaps it is a mercy to Achilles that shades forget their life on earth

Greg had always been a night owl. For years, his nightly routine consisted of scrolling through fitness blogs and watching workout videos, dreaming of a day when he might have the body of a Greek god. At fifty-five, he was overweight, self-conscious, and hesitant to be seen at the gym during peak hours. It was this insecurity that led him to arrange private, after-hours training sessions with Nick, a young, muscular personal trainer renowned for his ability to transform even the most hopeless cases.

Nick was the epitome of physical perfection: six-foot-two, with chiseled abs, broad shoulders, and biceps that strained against the fabric of his workout shirts. He was the kind of guy who turned heads wherever he went. But Nick was also kind, patient, and professional, which is why Greg chose him.

For the past month, Greg had been meeting Nick at the gym every night at 11 PM.

Despite their efforts, Greg saw little progress. His frustration grew each time he looked in the mirror, each time he saw his belly protruding, his arms flabby. Nick encouraged him, reminding him that real change takes time. But Greg was tired of waiting.

One night, after another grueling session that left him drenched in sweat but still feeling hopeless, Greg's desperation reached its peak. He had stumbled upon an obscure online forum that mentioned a mysterious cream capable of switching bodies. It sounded like nonsense, but Greg was desperate enough to try anything.

On the fateful night, Greg slipped the cream into his bag. He approached Nick, his heart pounding with a mixture of guilt and determination. As they wrapped up the session, Greg feigned a sudden cramp and asked Nick to help him stretch.

Nick, ever the professional, complied without question. Greg seized the moment. With a swift motion, he pulled out a small device from his bag—a stun gun he had bought online. Before Nick could react, Greg pressed it against Nick's side. The trainer's body convulsed before he collapsed, unconscious.

Greg's hands trembled as he stripped Nick of his clothes, revealing the sculpted body he had long envied. He marveled at the smooth, hard muscles, feeling the texture of Nick's skin, taut over solid muscle. His fingers traced the defined lines of Nick's abs, the powerful curves of his biceps, the strength in his thighs.

With Nick unconscious, Greg opened the jar of cream, its strange, pungent scent filling the air. He began to smear it over Nick's body, making sure to cover every single inch. He started with Nick's broad chest, rubbing the cream into the firm pectoral muscles, down to the rippling abs. He coated Nick's strong arms, his biceps and triceps glistening under the layer of cream.

Greg's hands moved lower, applying the cream to Nick's powerful thighs and calves.

He hesitated for a moment, then spread Nick's legs apart, ensuring that he rubbed the cream thoroughly into his buttocks. He marveled at the firmness, feeling a surge of both envy and excitement. Finally, with a deep breath, Greg reached for Nick's dick, carefully and methodically rubbing the cream onto every part of his genitals, ensuring not a single inch was left uncovered.

Satisfied, Greg stripped himself, feeling a mix of revulsion and hope as he applied the cream to his own flesh, mirroring the thoroughness with which he had treated Nick's body. He rubbed it over his own sagging chest, his flabby arms, his protruding belly, and finally his legs and genitals.

As he finished, a strange tingling sensation spread through his body. His vision blurred, and he felt a dizzying rush, as though he were being pulled apart and reassembled. When the sensation finally passed, Greg looked down and gasped.

His body was no longer his own. He flexed his new muscles, feeling the power in his limbs, the strength in his core. He was Nick.

Nick, now in Greg's old body, began to stir. Panic and confusion twisted his features as he looked up at Greg. "What did you do?" he cried, his voice weak and unfamiliar.

Greg, now towering over his former self, smirked. "I'm sorry, Nick. But l've waited too long to feel like this. To be admired. To be powerful."

Nick tried to stand, but the weight of Greg's old body overwhelmed him. "Switch us back," he pleaded, his voice breaking.

Greg shook his head, his smile cruel. "Not a chance. I plan to enjoy this new life. Your life."

Greg turned his attention to Nick's discarded clothes. He picked up Nick's sweaty tank top first, holding it up to his face and inhaling deeply. The scent of Nick's exertion was intoxicating. With a sense of reverence, he slipped the tank top over his head. It fit perfectly, hugging his new, muscular frame in all the right places. He admired how it clung to his new pectorals and biceps, a testament to his newfound physical perfection.

Next, he grabbed Nick's jockstrap. The fabric was still warm and damp from Nick's sweat. Greg shivered with delight as he stepped into it, adjusting the straps around his muscular thighs and feeling the snug support it provided. He relished the sensation of the tight material against his skin, a stark contrast to the loose underwear he was used to. He then took a moment to adjust his new, large manhood within the confines of the jockstrap. The feeling was exhilarating. It was a tight fit, but it felt incredible-just as Nick always must have felt.

Greg then reached for Nick's socks. They were soaked with sweat, but he didn't care. He pulled them on, one by one, feeling the damp fabric mold to his feet. The sensation of Nick's sweat-soaked socks against his new, powerful calves sent a thrill through him.

Finally, he picked up Nick's shoes. They were well-worn, molded to the shape of Nick's feet. Greg slipped them on, lacing them up tightly. As he stood up, he felt a surge of invincibility, the shoes giving him a sense of grounding and power.

"You can't do this," Nick pleaded again, desperation in his eyes. But Greg ignored him, too engrossed in the transformation and the feel of Nick's clothes on his new body.

With that, Greg opened the gym door and unceremoniously shoved Nick outside, locking the door behind him. As he turned to leave, he heard Nick pounding on the door. Suddenly, the pounding stopped, replaced by a gasping, choking sound. Greg turned around and saw Nick-his former self-clutching his chest, his face contorted in pain.

Nick's now old heart was failing under the stress of the transformation and the shock of his new reality. He collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony, trying to draw breath.

As Greg walked away, leaving his old body-now Nick's-struggling on the ground, he felt a surge of excitement. He was no longer the fat old man, he now was Nick, the Adonis.

Stunning Roman frescoes have been uncovered by archeologists in Pompeii, the ancient city destroyed by an eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 AD. Experts say the newly discovered frescoes are among the finest ever to emerge at the renowned archeological site.

The works of art line the high walls of what was once a large banquet hall. The walls themselves were painted mostly black, and the figures on the frescoes appear to emerge from the shadows. Site director Dr. Gabriel Zuchtriegel told CBS News partner network BBC News that the dark color was likely used to hide stains from the lamps that lit the hall after the sun went down.

"In the shimmering light, the paintings would have almost come to life," Zuchtriegel said.

Two pieces dominate the hall; one depicts the Greek god Apollo trying to seduce the priestess Cassandra. The second piece shows Prince Paris meeting Helen of Troy.

About a third of the "lost city" of Pompeii remains obscured by volcanic debris from the eruption almost two millennia ago. As scientists make new finds, they quickly move them to a storeroom to protect them from the elements.

The newly discovered frescoes, however, cannot be moved, so they have been protected with temporary roofing. Plaster glue is also being injected into the walls behind the artwork to stop them from falling down.

"We have a passion and a deep love for what we're doing, because what we're uncovering and protecting is for the joy also of the generations that come after us," chief restorer Dr. Roberta Prisco told the BBC, adding that the work was very stressful.

The dig site is much bigger than just the banquet hall.

Another fresco recovered from what was once one of Pompeii's grand properties had been on a ceiling, but it was smashed by the eruption that destroyed the city. Archeologists were able to lay out the pieces like a puzzle and recreate landscapes, theatrical masks, and Egyptian characters.

"This is my favorite discovery in this excavation because it is complex and rare," Dr. Alessandro Russo, co-lead archeologist on the dig, told the BBC. "It is high-quality, for a high-status individual."

In a bakery next to the grand property, the skeletons of two adults and a child were discovered.

Archeologists believe they may have been slaves who were trapped and couldn't flee the eruption, and were killed by falling stones.

"When we excavate, we wonder what we're looking at," co-lead archeologist Dr. Gennaro Iovino told the BBC. "Much like a theater stage, you have the scenery, the backdrop, and the culprit, which is Mount Vesuvius. The archeologist has to be good at filling in the gaps — telling the story of the missing cast, the families and children, the people who are not there anymore."

The team's discovery was just one of a number of recent revelations from the site, after they found other mythological-themed frescoes in early March and then, just weeks later, a construction site that was being worked on right up until the eruption.

The archeologists said near the end of March that they'd found a home construction project that was frozen in time by the eruption, with materials such as bricks and tools still piled up in the reception area of the home.
