the city I live in had to take down a big old tree on public property down the street from where I live but before they did it they stapled a sign to it giving the reason (tree was dead and rotting and was a threat to the road and power lines) and then included contact info for objections to removing it to be brought before the city and idk I know it’s not much but I just think that’s….nice. like a nice acknowledgment that people have connections to plants and particularly big old trees around where they live and should at least be able to be like Please Do Not Cut Down This Big Old Tree For A Parking Lot Or Something. their reasoning for this one was super valid and they did indeed remove the tree earlier this week but quite frankly I was just like. surprised to (at least in theory) be able to have a say in it at all lmao

the thing i love about bill cipher is that even after i've learned all of this stuff about him, seen him at the most vulnerable he'll ever get, seen him at his most innocent, i still can't give a flying fuck about trying to justify his actions. yes he's traumatized, yes he was twisted into what we know today, and while it gives a semblance of context to why he did what he did, it doesn't matter. he still ruined ford's life. he still drove and baited multiple humans to suicide. he still tormented every human he saw as his ticket out of the consequences of his own actions. he still took delight in his actions. he was willing to commit genocide for fuck's sake!!! (freezing all of the humans into statues). trying to explain away what he did does not get rid of what he did, but it certainly puts it in perspective. you won't be catching me being a bill apologist any time soon <3

Our new neighbors are lovely people and we've chatted a few times, tossed their kid's toys over the fence, fixed their bins when they've been blown over by the wind a few times, you know just normal casual acquaintance stuff and we're working on ✨ befriending ✨ still because I have ridiculous social anxiety. All of which to say, they're totally fine and normal and things are largely very chill between us, EXCEPT

Also sorry my dog is annoying and barks all the time, it's because you park directly under the window and I cannot stress this enough, load and unload the trunk of your car 5 times a day???

Which like, is not even in the top 50 of worst neighbors activity I've had by a longshot and I'm not mad at them or anything I am just. Baffled. I have no idea what kind of employment or hobby or other activity could necessitate something like this. Also we're getting quotes to get the windows updated to double paned and to seal them (and it's gonna be expensive af and I'm not looking forward to that but alas) so like, in a month or so this won't be such a big deal but I'm just so ??? Currently reading: really really need to get back to Censoring Translation, i was having so much fun with it. it indulges a lot in one of my favorite types of academic writing: explaining why everyone else is wrong about a very specific thing. but the core of the book is a love letter to this one translator+playwright pair (vera blackwell and václav havel), and since i knew nothing about either of them it’s been a delight to read

Current Obsession: im too tired :/ was getting rly into editing before this, like was rly enjoying it in class and had plans to work w a friend once we’re both doing things again. is that an obsession? want to be trying new recipes over the summer too, actually get confident w cooking for others. wrt media i suppose fallen london as much as ever
